Sudoku solution – New York Times 11 September 2024 Hard level

[Music] hello fellow sedans and welcome to Zen and the Art of the Guardian sodoku puzzle it's Wednesday the 11th of September 2024 I hope you are keeping well and enjoying life um life has its little vices I guess uh gambling is one of them for some people people uh I mention this because uh apparently in the UK the labor new labor government is under pressure to tighten um gambling advertising restrictions uh which it ought to do um because Tony Blair actually loosened all uh removed all advertising restrictions that had previously been in place uh in his government and just after that the smartphone was invented and uh gambling advertising is just about everywhere it's not a very good activity it's harmful it can be addictive I don't think it should be illegal I live in a country where gambling is actually illegal uh that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen it certainly does and you know there are always headlines about police raids on illegal casinos here in Thailand etc etc so if it you know if legalize if if it being illegal worked then there would never be any arrests so it doesn't work but there's a huge difference between something being legal and something being promoted and I think that um you know it should gambling should definitely not be illegal allow people to do what they want with their money but it has to be recognized it's a it's a very bad thing and usually people who gamble are people who don't understand maths at all I've heard it often it's often been said uh you know uh gambling is attacks on people who are bad at maths is that kind of thing so there's that so let's hope that uh the UK does uh restrict its advertising uh on gambling a bit more right let's get on with the game of sodoku shall we this is the New York Times I've got I'm playing this game because I've had yet another cancellation but just one early cancellation I've still got two jobs to do after this I believe uh how am I doing on time yeah I'm just about okay on time at the moment so not too I should be okay for this um yet again bad news for me lack of uh finances with um cancellations from cancellations I should say uh okay we've got sevens there and sevens there we've got fours over this side and fours down there I okay I thought I'd seen something up here six sixes are there sevens are there four fours are there what do we know about one not much and three oh yeah actually three up there oh okay let me let me think about this again four and three block up here so that's four and three in those squares so this is 1 six7 but we don't know about the ones 1 167 can we get any more down here we've got one six and seven so we're looking for five eight and N we've got five and eight together so that's going to be a nine and we have five and eight in these two squares down there we've got threes across here let's try a few easy numbers before I start getting stuck in we've got three blocking this Square this square and this Square here for uh okay [Music] so I had seven here right and I also had one somewhere down there so one and seven block down there one blocks AC no it's not enough is it one blocks across here so I've got ones there I've got sevens there okay for for okay we got eights up here eight across this way uh six blocks across here so six in one of those squares blocking back in this Direction that's going to be our six then and we have one and seven in those squares four blocks up here there's our four this would be a one uh one blocking this square and one blocking this Square so in this row there we are four across here and there there's our four this would be a two two up here and two across there there's a two one going up this column these columns I should say one across here now we know one is one and seven in those squares so that's going to be our one that's going to be our seven uh this is what three and four right we got four blocking up here so four in one of these squares blocking down gives us four there four down here down here and across there there's a four four across here four is one of our missing squares here one of our missing squares one of our missing digits I should say four across there there's our four for two down like so two across here and there two like this oh that's the last two okay three blocking up here that gives us three in that square three across there there's a three there's a four do anything else on the threes not sure how about the fours four across here and up there now four is finished what's missing from here five and nine so nine across there there's our nine there's our five five and six here missing digit here is seven for eight up here down there eight and four oh no I thought I remembered having four there but clearly not there's a four there I thought I'd remember something I did not I remembered incorrectly but never mind eight across there and eight down there so there's an eight so eight down here and down there funny how the mind plays tricks memory plays tricks eight is finished there's one more digit to go here is that no it's not is it a five yes it is five blocking this Square we need a five in this column there's a five missing digit here is six one is in one of those two squares blocking down and one across here and there uh looks like this is going to be seven in one of those s seven blocking here seven down here yeah there's the seven what's the other number nine isn't it yes okay so 56 here that's a 56 this is not five or six uh but I think it could be a seven or a oh no it's seven look at this seven across here seven there there's a seven seven up here seven down there there's a seven seven across here there's a seven this is a nine uh nine down here nine across there there's a nine nine up there and across there I can make it a bit longer that's there nine down here nine across there nine is finished uh one number missing here I think it's a three and three blocks across here there's the three this is a one one across there there's our one that's finished now missing digit here is six six down here puts six into that square six across gives us six there six back that way there's our six this is a five this is a five this is a five five blocks up there there's a five and six finishes the game so a very straightforward game from The New York Times fall off Wednesday uh I don't think I'll be back
