Housekeeping actually I think I've been in a helicopter over Hawaii twice where was I I'm sorry I cannot believe this you're not helicopter worthy dear Shandy welcome back to another dear Shandy Bachelorette recap listeners hello Andy hello how are you today good good to be back in my chair yes yeah do we want to address that people liked Wells people liked it and I would say I would say it was 85 [Laughter] your prediction was indeed accurate yeah I know our shandies yes 85% of you seemed to enjoy Wells you were like he'll do well I mean Wells is a crowd pleaser you know what wells is he's like a delicious slice of cake like who doesn't like Wells you know wow I mean you comparing some of the cake is the highest praise I've never met anyone who likes cake more but 15% of people might not opt for the cake they might want the apple pie I think everyone opts for cake cakes on the menu you go for cake some people are not into cake some people are pie people is what you're saying so other words you're saying in the Cake family it's more like cake or like a bowl of cherries what well pie and cake are close cousins oh you really I'm sorry I'm offending you like you really have specific look okay look I think that's very endearing that you think a Bowl of Cherries is going to cut it sometimes for dessert and look I love cherries I love they're in season right now Cher is yeah a good full of cherries there's nothing like it but it's not pie I'm sorry it's not and it's not cake it's certainly not more importantly all right so Wells is cake yes we got that out of Episode 5 Kick Off the way all right so episode five picks up we're still in Auckland it's the evening so this is the evening that Matt the ex-boyfriend came and Dylan it's super cute we pick up with the rose ceremony cocktail party and Dylan tells the guys how much he appreciates them he never grew up with a brother oh my God this was adorable I love Dy me too Dylan may be too good for this show there is no question he's he doesn't fit in with his his personality doesn't fit in I feel like he was in it for the experience and I just want to say it doesn't fit in he's he is too good for it like he's too normal he's too normal he's 24 I can't get over that I keep coming back to that he doesn't seem 24 yeah what kind of parents did this guy have to make him like that I want to know absolutely lovely okay so now we get the sepia tone recap of Matthew's is it Andy you said this guy apparently has 50,000 Instagram followers I learned that I I did uh I didn't do some slothing I was just hit by it social media hit me with it who who no I don't know who it was I was just on the gram and suddenly it was like Hey this guy he has 50,000 Instagram followers she's a fraud so I was hit with I think it might have been a Dave Neil thumbnail but something about how he apparently vlogged his journey there oh I think it was Dave Neil oh was it Dave it was it must be Dave Neil when in doubt it's Dave 85% of the time it's Dave Neil shout out Dave Neil okay so do we therefore think that he was there for the wrong reasons I do I think he was there for the wrong reasons you know he's he seems like a nice guy people like oh he's a nice guy you know he's there for the no no no he's just there for the wrong reasons you know why because he even said it he said it on the show what did he say he said when I realized that you were going to be engaged at the end of the show I realized I had a no that's the wrong reason even regardless of the show even in life forget about TV even if it's just normal life that's the wrong reason why did it take someone getting engaged for you to want to be with them it's so true and it's sort of like how in real life you know when there isn't a TV show in the mix you want someone who wants you when they have you yes not because they don't have you he had plenty of chances to tell her why did it take her being The Bachelorette for him to come to New Zealand and by the way oh stuff he gets a trip to New Zealand let's be perfectly honest he did not foot the whole bill for this I have a hard time believing that yeah just because they would this if he reached out to producers they would be like how can we make this as seamless as possible for you of course yes yeah thumbs down I'm giving that the thumbs down is that okay I mean I let's say he did buy his own flight I think it was an investment of sorts in his own Matt be a perfectly fine guy in this situation he gets thumbs down okay so Jen after chatting with Jesse about this she joins the guys to tell them about Matt she says he's there she has to talk to him Andy you felt she should have apologized to them here it felt like it was it was needed yeah but I mean she ended up kicking him out so no I know so maybe she knew that was going to happen and maybe production told her not to apologize to make that more impactful yeah there were a couple moments in this episode where I felt like Jen was really like I'm the boss in kind of a cool way like here she was in my opinion almost conspicuously unap and then later on at the end of the episode when she cancels the rose ceremony since when does the lead do that it's usually Jessie I'll tell you something about this show always surprises me I thought Jen was going to be I I I didn't have huge hopes for her I really we just didn't know her very well I didn't know her well and I just I didn't feel like she was going to be an independent Bachelorette and you know what she's one of the most independent bachelorettes I think she's making a lot of decisions and she's making good ones I agree except for one which but she hasn't made that decision yet so we'll see I guess so the guys are understandably annoyed by this news to the point where Sam says he can literally feel the blood boil inside of him H one thing's for sure Austin feels it's whack whack you know do I sound cool you know whack's making a comeback wack yeah you know wack was the the word when I was like a little kid really like a little kid you're kidding like ages ago wack was the word and suddenly it's making a comeback and I'm I'm okay with that because I was into whack Okay so so Jen chats with Matthew now she says it touches her heart that he came out there but why now he says it's now or never she's leaving engaged there's no flexibility there and she says she didn't know he felt that way and he says well it didn't happen all at once but then coming back together I thought that was interesting he quote saw things in her that made things so deep and I mean that is just that is so vague what what is that there was a lack of specif it for me and maybe he was a little camera shy I I the whole thing was just I I think I saw Matt through less of a and maybe it was the Dave Neil thumbnail I just saw him through less of a pure lens than I did last week last week I said he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would do this but this time I was kind of like well say something about her that doesn't sound like it could be said by just anyone and he didn't there wasn't one thing about Jen he said that I felt was like specific to her or specific to what they shared as a couple I also didn't feel there was the level of urgency that I would have had had I flown to New Zealand to desperately get this woman yes totally it almost felt like he was just saying the things he felt he should say to then get on the show I would be like I am not leaving here until you like I would become a total psycho yeah no but I know what you mean if you really felt this is the woman of your dreams and you're like [ __ ] like it's me I'm your future husband I made a huge mistake for not seeing it sooner you'd be crying I am not leaving until security drags me out he says that when they first tried things out they were different people they're adults now uh and he's not ready to let it go meanwhile we see Devon and Grant have a conversation Devon says if she lets the guy back on he's leaving you know this was you know this was is triggering for him yeah he kind of admitted it he said that it's really his own past trauma he's been cheated on but I will say I was kind of surprised they didn't make more of this than they did cuz I think on a different season maybe like three years ago they might have spun Dev threatening to leave into a whole subplot about how he's not actually serious about Jen well Devon has enough self-control to know not to spiral in these situations I think it was it was like an emotional moment where he just said something that was probably not true yeah I'm guessing it wasn't I'm guessing if Matt stayed Devon would not have left he was saying that emotionally but I do also think that for that to have been a subplot they would have had to keep Matt around and Matt was not staying around so there was nothing there oh no but I think that on other Seasons there have been scenarios where the person wasn't let on but the fact that he threatened to leave was seen as like oh you're not actually serious about genen then if something like that you off course agree I agree but I don't think Devon's that weak I think Devon is new he he he has enough self-awareness to say like okay Devon watch out don't go down this road I think he said it it maybe two times maybe three times but that was it he kind of calmed down I actually think that Devin saying this was more in Anger at production yeah I agree in my opinion like it's more like oh another curveball another wrench another what is it stick stick in the wheel a Spoke stick in the spoke stick in the spoke speaking of which the only time anyone has ever teased doing that in our lifetime was when we were in Australia do you remember that oh yeah that just came back to me up and may believe they were going to stick something in our bik it was so bizarre cuz we loved Australia we were in Sydney we were on basically the Australian version of a city bike City bikes we each had one and these like broy dudes we were just like biking minding our own business and they like ran up to us with a stick and pretended to stick it in our spokes that was a lowlevel humor you know I feel like there's a lot of broess in Australia but but I love Australia and I'm not I'm just saying like there has to be some downside to Australia there are many we could talk about them but I a lot of upsides huge upsides t one of them is is there's a lot of broess in Australia that and skin cancer huge skin you know two out of three people in Australia how insane is that yeah yeah okay so moving on Matthew comes in addresses the group announces that he came quote on his own volition there's so many things about that that make me laugh well it's just like what else would grammatically the grammar aside like what else would he have I don't understand why that's worth mentioning the security forces of the Bator came to his door and said you're coming with us I think that maybe he was trying to find a classy way to say I paid my own way here no uh Jen told him he tells them that Jen had told him that her future is in that room and he's just coming into apologize and he wishes the guy's the best and we hear Jeremy say smart girl that's weak I didn't like this this is this is a guy who's being he's showing Contrition he he's trying he didn't have to do this I don't even think production asked him to do this I think he was like I want to do this and he apologized and that's what Jeremy's got I I got to be honest not a big fan of J Nei and he's a New Yorker he's he's you know a little sympatico I mean he's New York apparently New York born and raised yeah really and I not a huge fan yeah I there were two things Jeremy did in this episode that rubbed me wrong and that was the first one I agree when look whether or not Matthew is there for the quote unquote right reasons I think is irrelevant the point is here he was as you said showing Contrition he was just apologizing to the group saying I wish you all the best like like I'm Le like I'm leaving literally on my way out he was being the bigger man and they should have acknowledged that that was all they needed to say was thank you you're the bigger man today have a good trip back home Sam says to his face that he's glad he's going to stay in the past yeah like really this week yeah point out that Devon Devon didn't say anything like he knows it he's self-aware so Jen returns now tells them that Matt had told her that he loved her they were the right Rose Ceremony words but the wrong guy but she cancels the cocktail party and we go straight to the Rose ceremony and Andy you predicted that John and Thomas would be going home and you ended up being exactly correct Andy MH look at you getting better you you've really become a seasoned recapper four years in and I'm I'm there I'm there created a monster I don't know how I feel about this Andy you were annoyed that Sam smiled when hugging Thomas goodbye well the robin to his back thing is I'm a little I'm I'm becoming hypercritical of Sam was everything he does I I see fault with now and maybe maybe that's the lens I'm looking at him through yeah but I would say that Thomas seemed to be Sam's best friend on the in the cast correct in the house I suspect that Thomas might have seen it that way but I'm not sure Sam saw it that way oh okay well then in that case I could give him the benefit of the doubt but it felt to me like they were pretty tight in the house and it felt like his smile noted more of a celebration that one more person was leaving than he was sad that Thomas was going I just don't feel like there's a lot of true emotion coming from Sam I feel like he's a coldhearted bastard have I not made that clear I'm going to choose to give him the bed init of the doubt here I think it's very possible that maybe Thomas had told him you know with the cameras off or at some point like I think I'm going home tonight and then it was just like oh it was me I was right and he's like you just cut a moment where he was smiling I don't know I just think that smiles can often be construed as intentional when they aren't and I think Jen actually is a great example of this because Jen smiles a lot when she's actually in distress so all I'm saying is you know I I just don't know if Sam did like extra bad stuff this this episode so you've chosen this point in time to come to Sam's defense the defense of smile gate I'm just trying to be fair okay it's not like everything his he can get away was smiling okay maybe we misunderstood okay so now it's the next day Jesse and Jen are sharing what is evidently an excellent cup of coffee I The Next Day feel like we missed out on the coffee when we were in New Zealand we didn't have much coffee you can I say something this is this is going to be controversial I love coffee I'm a coffee lover I drink coffee every day yeah but you're a functional coffee drinker I like a good Tas in coffee I like a strong I like I like coffee I don't want you to take that away from me okay I appreciate coffee I respect coffee okay I take issue with people saying that certain coffees are much better than other coffees I think there's bad coffee and there's good coffee and then there's excellent coffee but it's very close to good coffee I'm going to put my flag in that that's it I think coffee has a very narrow range at the top and a very distinct R range at the bottom sorry I didn't know how to finish that I don't know if you can be trusted in the coffee Department oh this is ridiculous you are functional coffee drinker and he drinks coffee for the caffeine he doesn't appreciate the taste he doesn't even like it to be hot he doesn't want it hot first of all extremely hot coffee is undrinkable why do you want that I want to be able to gulp coffee gulp I don't want to have to worry about getting Burns in my esophagus is that is that so wrong does hate helicopters is that possible to hate helicopters it's an interesting thing to hate because I feel like if you didn't like helicopters you just wouldn't go in them it's not like every day you're like I got to get to work get in my helicopter I felt like to say you have to take to me saying you hate a helicopter is like too strong yeah and it's also like saying I'm afraid of helicopters yeah but it also it's some a helicopter is a pretty like unique experience to have experience it's also a standard form of flight I mean it's yeah it's one of the it's been around for many it's been around for like close to like probably 60 70 80 years it's a good it's it's a form of flight that's very well traveled and well researched and fairly safe have you ever been in a helicopter I've been in a couple helicopters I had no fear and I and I do have a fear of heights and I have a general fear of being in a flying vehicle but I assume that the every time I go in a flying vehicle it's going to crash when the hell have you been in a opter I was in a helicopter over Hawaii and I was in a helicopter over some other place I think I've been a hel actually I think I've been in a helicopter over Hawaii twice where was I I'm sorry I cannot believe this you're not helicopter worthy I'm the one who's been on The Bachelor I don't you know what I'll tell you something I've been on two helicopters you know what my takeaway from the helicopter is what not worth it oh not worth the money it's like you know what it's like it's like standing on top of a tall building or seeing fireworks once you once you've been on one or seen one you you it's it you're done okay all right no you want to go on a helicopter I'll take you on a helicopter you want to go in a helicopter I'll take you in a helicopter today you want to go you won't you won't let me tell you something I take you in a helicopter you're going to say like you were right it's not that big a deal I think that's possible but I would like to make that decision for myself I'm kind of in awe that we've been together for 10 years and I had didn't know you'd ever been on a helicopter you know what I'm going to take you on a helicopter just to get the I told you so that you're going to realize that helicopter ride is not that special okay well my point being that Jonathan's saying that oh my God I hate helicopters I feel like like a helicopter is like a relatively fancy thing to have experienced I don't know I was I think the word hate is inappropriate with helicopters and I think it's just inappropriate for just the setting if you hate how if a helicopter hunted you down and tried to kill you or assault you or touch you in ways you weren uncomfortable with then you could hate them but otherwise it's not appropriate agreed so they fly to a Vineyard uh Jonathan says it's so beautiful it's something you only see in magazines how old is it like I don't even say magazines anymore they play hide and seek a hideand-seek turned Marco Polo I have to say you called it a week first of first of all the hideand-seek on its own was too easy then you throw in Marco Polo this is not respectable hide and seek no and then they toss food into each other's mouths and Jen says watch what I can do with my mouth do you know she likes the nonchalant sexual innuendo yes she does it with Jonathan like she did one last week when she said I'm not used to a men's stick with the lacrosse stick and we didn't get to see his reaction or like he didn't seem to react and here I don't know if I she does throwaways she does it without expecting to laugh she just does it for herself in a way I I respect it too this is very funny I agree yeah so in the hot tub now he says his biggest fear with them is not breaking past the fun side of their relationship so it turns out they have the same concern cuz we had heard Jen voicing the same and then in the evening she applauds him for fully allowing her to be herself that sounds bad she she said it much better I wrote it poorly that that was meing that he says it's been on repeat that he's bad at emotion and fully opening up and trusting someone is who they say they are I yeah it always it always frustrates me when we hear that something has been on repeat but it's the first time we're hearing about it cuz to me Jonathan's been kind of like a why isn't Jan one of her final right two or three guys and now we're like oh that's a huge piece of this puzzle Jonathan is bad at emotion yeah well maybe there's a reason why they were they were keeping that out because maybe he does go far and they didn't want to like you know build him too early I don't think he goes far now oh okay yeah well this date you've been big on Jonathan I have been big on Jonathan but this date you know oneon-one either set someone to the front of the list or at the back of the list and to me Jonathan this did not make up for I don't know the it's just not there I don't know how to put temperature was cool the temperature it was a little below room temperature in my opinion he says his ex he fell really hard really fast for her they looked at Rings talked about kids and then she began to self-medicate and turn to alcohol and when he tried to intervene she accused him of being abusive and manipulative and the whole thing um was just really really difficult for him and kind of turned him from a hopeless romantic into a cynic m and she relates here says that she was gaslit in her last relationship she said something beautiful here opening up to someone means that they can use it against you I don't know how beautiful that is but it is very poignant it's true yeah Jen speaks like someone who seems to have been in therapy for a while yes and I feel like she has spent a lot of time learning about the mistakes she's made totally why she is the way she is she's able to articulate them very well very well I mean the way she speaks on the spot she's one of the best spoken bachelorettes I think I've seen yes and andtie too for Jonathan you said he's better spoken than the other guys yeah the other ones yeah no Jonathan is also very very few likes yeah basically now I just judge people's eloquence on how many times they say like okay so back at the hotel the date card arrives for the group date going on this are Devin Sam Marcus Spencer Jeremy Dylan and Austin meeting Grant will be getting that oneon-one and Dylan I think seeing his future is visibly upset so back on the date now Jonathan says growing up nothing was handed to him on a silver platter he was raised around a lot of turmoil and he was raised by a single mother and Jen of course relates Jen is I mean she manages to relate to everybody it's unbelievable she's incredible at this she had to put up a strong front uh being vulnerable felt like weakness and as though if she weren't strong everything would fall apart and she says she's been learning that letting your guard down allows someone to be there for you like is she just coming up with this stuff on the spot she's incredible it's I'm telling you she's she's studied she sounds very Sheed she's been therapized she gives him the rose in a particular spot where it turns out there's I guess I don't know very it's a very stormy spot yeah call they didn't look at the forecast a rain dispenser what is this a rain machine a rain machine yeah a rain was it it really follows through with their romcom theme because he was originally a romcom guy until he went classic romcom situation and I wrote I love Jonathan but I'm just not feeling this chemistry I don't know how to describe it the temperature is low it's not a hot temperature I feel like the vibe I'm getting from Jonathan is that he likes Jen but he's not like really excited about her and he's in this for this experience Ag and I'm not knocking that cuz I think a lot of people come I'm glad you said that because a lot of times people look at these shows through the lens of the lead like how are they feeling about the person but often times it's actually the the cast member who should be looked at like how are they feeling towards the lead because sometimes you assume that everyone in the cast is like oh I'm getting married to this girl no question I love her more than any girl I've ever met in my whole life or Guy The Bachelor verse yeah but it's not the case you can see you can read it in their eyes some of these guys are not that interested in Jen and that's okay you don't have just because you were you know you were randomly thrown at this pool to marry this woman doesn't mean you have to fall in love with that woman and let's be honest they all fake it until they get kicked off let's be honest right and you think then they don't fake what do you mean Austin stopped faking it but I mean 90% of the time they're faking it until they get thrown off and I think that you are you you are it's Keen to to hit on this is because I think Jonathan you're right Jonathan is not there for Jen he's there for the experience he likes Jen fine yeah I think he'd probably go on a couple dates with her but I don't feel that there's chemistry from his end yeah but also I don't feel like there's a lot of chemistry from her end she's meeting him yeah I think I think J if John gave more Jonathan guess it's Jonathan but you can call him John it's j though you gota watch out I've made that mistake before but I think Jonathan's not giving her and she's matching him I think if Jonathan gave a lot more she'd match him there too I agree I mean she did give him that group date Rose wait actually she didn't give him the group but she did Crown his what was it Johnny fire cheeks strip number yeah that's true he did win that undeservedly so in my opinion yes but in our opinion but I just feel like this is sort of like you know just two Attractive people in the same place at the same time doesn't love make I agree yeah so moving on now to the group date the guys are all wearing flannel and Jen introduces them to her Group Date friends sheep no I like sheep I love sheep can we talk about the air some of these sheep were getting oh man yeah they could really hop they could jump really far why do they is they jump out of Happiness excitement fear like what what's what's the jumping for I'm not sure because they jump randomly it doesn't seem like there's any reason for them to jump didn't it feel like they were jumping because they were getting crammed they were like get me out of here it's it's not really an effective way of is it I mean they're not getting that much hair like they're jumping over several sheet are jumping like yeah maybe you're right you think it's an anxious thing like they're like I'm claustrophobic I'm going to jump to get out of this situation that's how it seemed to me but it was like acute claustrophobia you don't think sheep jump for happiness but we saw goats remember when we were we saw baby goats B baby goats and sheep same same thing basically oh is that is that SAR is that racist no but but but they are they're right they're they're sort of the same farm animals same kind of animal and and we saw those baby goats and baby goats jump all the time and they're clearly jumping out of excitement happiness they're having fun oh so maybe sheep jump for fun maybe I'm sure the shanies will let you know all right there on a sheep farm the owners Richard and Diane tasked the guys with proving their Farm basically the guys have to first herd the Sheep this is hilarious yeah because uh turns out they didn't know which gate to open and so there wasn't an open gate and well there wasn't there just one gate yeah it was unclear how many gates there were but they definitely misunderstood the assignment H and Richard says not a lot of collective intelligence that you didn't think to open the gate J's expression oh I loved her expression was great you know she broke character there cuz normally she's supposed to be the lead right and she was just like damn that was mean yeah yeah it was great though that guy I love this guy he was great this is and by the way he understood the assignment all the people who do these things need to be dead panned I don't want you trying to entertain us you just do what you do you're a sheep person talk about sheep very seriously very funny that guy so next up they have to shovel sheep poo and the talking point here is that Devon steals Jen away for a little chat this definitely rubs a lot of the guys wrong we'll get to that okay so the guys now have to cut dingleberries off the Sheep butts you didn't know what a dingleberry was I did not know what a dingleberry was it's okay not to know that is that the only way aing Dingle the word dingleberry is used you thought that a dingleberry I mean I'm trying to let you down easy but we did have a conversation recently where you thought a dingleberry was an actual Berry you thought I would forget that huh I didn't know you were going to share that with everyone well I think it's important but no a dingleberry is only used in the context of a little piece of poop hanging off some hair I knew I really really loved Ruby the first time I had to assist her in department and I felt guilty cuz it was definitely my hair I mean you I was putting Vaseline on that dry spot on our butthole the other day yeah we're officially we're on off the deep end yeah we're on the other side now I looked forward to it too at the vet when they told me they were like you should probably put some some Vaseline on this thing I was like oh yeah can I do it [Music] today they finally toast with sheeps milk and Richard and Diane crowned Devon as the best farmer and the music that's probably you know that's that's not what uh he was no he was the best lover they said the person who would make the best farmer and husband and I mean if you account the husband part into it then I mean he did make an effort to speak with her I mean the fact matters they were just told to say Devon which is finee but I mean you know give it to him the guy pulled her aside the fact matters this is this is this is Lord of the Flies it is let's accept that there's some there's some gentlemanliness there's some honor in the the battle yes but uh All is fair in Love and War and this is both Love and War so wait what what's what's your point my point is the winner should be the one who's in a in a way the kind of the most annoying well I don't I feel what Devon did was just understand the assignment that's what I'm saying aning not not to us I'm saying annoying to the cast like if you're shoveling [ __ ] and Devon's off the lead like you know Romancing you misunderstood the assignment you're going to be annoyed but you also should be like well I should have done that I think it's different look I understand it's annoying to steal her from another guy's time or from a collective I don't know something that is more like you're no one is keeping track of how many pounds of poop you have shoveled I just feel like he understood what he was there to do at that moment she wasn't off on the sidelines like judging them she was with them this wasn't a contest about who could shovel the best poop clearly yes yes I just thought that the guys were unnecessarily annoyed this brings us to the evening the other thing Jeremy did that annoyed me yeah he's very confrontational with Devon he says do you really think you were the best [Music] farmer and Devon's like well I think I just am doing what I do like what I've what I have been doing and Jeremy's like yeah good answer and like gives him this like laughs and then drops his face you know what I think about that first of all that was extremely weak and not funny but I think that Jeremy thinks that Devon's the villain of the season and he thought he was going to win points like he was going to get an Applause break from the audience for doing that he read the room he's not reading it he did not read that right at all this just this moment who does this the creepy smile turned frown like to me jery is an awkward guy that is a very like that's like slap like dark slapstick like not funny slapstick like just to me it was creepy it was a creepy move to do that like why don't you have an actual interaction where you actually voice what your what Your misgiving is instead of that level of sarcasm SAR has to the point where you're fake smiling and then showing that you were fake smiling like to me that's like something that a 10-year-old does and joy while last with Jeremy's gone next episode I agree although he did get a lot of air time yeah he's gone he gets one-on-one time here there's a funny moment where she addresses the fact that he's basically patting her head yeah he's a little awkward he is yeah the you Pat my head sometimes yeah but he was patting it weirdly there was a reason why she mentioned it it wasn't a comforting like for her yeah it was kind of like he was patting like a dog where yeah and it's not like she was sharing something emotional on her end where he was comforting her it was just like yeah he's gone he reveals he was an overweight kid he never revealed this before but he's afraid of being lonely in his relationships he knows how much he can give in a relationship and is afraid of it not being reciprocated and turns out they basically have the same fear because once again Jen is expert level at relating and she says her fear is giving too much to the wrong person basically the same fear uh Austin now has one-on-one time he leading into it he's been kind of spiraling says he has a really tough decision to make he points out in a voice over that he's the only guy there I think who hasn't had either a group date Rose or a um one-onone one-on-one yeah he sees the writing on the wall yeah yeah to be honest I was surprised that he got through the last Rose ceremony I thought Thomas was going to make it through if only for his guaranteed drama yeah I mean he usually he delivers in the drama Department I wanted to see someone else outside I honestly think Thomas stuck around longer than he was supposed to he was supposed to yeah he tells her so Austin tells Jen that he feels he's been playing catchup it doesn't feel fair for anyone for him to continue this journey and yeah she walks him out yeah good for him yeah this was negative surprising to me I think what was a little surprising to me is what this became so it turns into as spiral on Jen's part where she says I want to be enough for someone was I not enough for Austin it's more symbolic than really having anything to do with Austin yeah I her voice over it's maybe I'm not enough for Marcus maybe I'm not enough for Sam maybe I'm not enough for Devin Andy you said did she just say her final three that was weird right they I don't think they're not hiding the fact that it's those three but usually at this point in the in the season even if it becomes kind of obvious they do hide it I've never seen something like that and I will say something else you disagree with me not I don't know if I did but well on the specific point you disagree that they Franken bit Sam M into that list I felt like Sam M sounded a little weird I feel like they threw him in and it might have been some other name but but I don't know all I know is really strange for the lead halfway through the season to be like my top three are these guys yeah I I mean I yeah I agree I I know if I'm putting as much stock in that as you I just well they left it the editors of this show are they've done this for what 97 Seasons now like they they know what they're doing there's a reason why they left that in there yeah I guess I just I feel like almost every season we know who the top three are early like this early on yeah it's episode five I just feel like top three is not top one I don't know okay who we'll find out and maybe this whole thing was meant to throw us off that's what I'm thinking I'm thinking they left this in for a reason okay and then the actual winner is not one of those three well I'm not saying that maybe but but there's got to be a reason it's either a red herring or it's a reverse red herring it's like a triple Bluff okay like those are the final three but now you're thinking they're not because you're so used to the editing game I don't know what's going on I just don't know I want weird Shandy's take so I'm going to insert that voice over right now we will listen and you guys chime in and tell us if you think Sam M was Franken bitten into this let's listen maybe I'm not enough for Marcus maybe I'm not enough for Sam M maybe I'm not enough for Devin so in her itm Jen seems to break down a bit she says that it breaks the facade this like she's like they all think I'm so confident they all want a Confident Woman but this is going to give away how worthless I am I mean that was just so heartbreaking the word it's one thing to say oh I don't feel worthy it's another thing to refer to yourself as worthless yeah it was hard to watch overall I just think that she and Austin weren't into each other at all she wasn't into him either no but I get that this was triggering for her and her specific fears I still feel though that Austin I don't think he's a bad guy for for doing this I'm not saying she made him the bad guy but I would have liked one moment extra to be like oh this was a this was difficult for him instead of immediately being like Oh it's because I'm not worried but it's triggering for her so you got to give her the benefit of the doubt also he has a mullet so he gets no credit the mullet washes everything other than that Austin's great does he shave does he get rid of the mullet when does he get okay ready over under how many years does he have that mullet for or months how long when does that mullet go away let's make a bet now at menel all whether or not he still has the mullet oh that is a great bet oo that is a good bet do you want to actually bet money on this yeah I'll bet you $10 the mullet is gone more than your usual bet I know I'm going to take that bet okay I am going to take I like that action I'll raise you to 20 bucks I don't feel that confident 15 10 1250 I started at my highest all right how was going to say usually it's a dollar that's really a big jump for you no I think he likes his mullet all right but I just think that often times men come to mental well anyone com someone's going to tell them like Yeah Austin I don't want to I don't want to get you know I think the mullet's got to go yeah I also think watching yourself on the show is challenging for a variety of reasons and I think that if the mullet was something that he was already like maybe it was an Impulse decision before I got on the show seeing him in all these scenes he'd be like oh I don't like that yeah yeah I will say though the mullet he in terms of mullets it doesn't look bad on him no no no I actually think it's okay but it it makes him someone else I agree I don't think he's a mullet guy I agree I think the mullet wears him he doesn't wear the mullet I agree he becomes the mullet guy and I think there's a lot more to Austin than his mullet I think if you go mullet you got to be mullet yes you can't just make believe mullet some other things you can not mullet okay so now Jan addresses the guy she tells them about Austin it brought up feelings about not being good enough she sees a future where her husband is in that room but she also sees one where she ends up alone I wrote this is very much a 26-year-old thought 26 26 wow yeah is it funny at 26 being like I could end up alone I did that I that's I I was exactly 26 when I had that thought because I was that was when I had my breakup with Margie oh I was in San Francisco Mar by the way the Andy's big ex he was engaged to her episode five was wow that was episode five I think so I'll link it here great episode can you be friends with an ex but continue but yeah I was in I was in San Francisco I was 26 and I was absolutely devastated I'd never been broken up with before never had my heart broken in anyway and it was it was just a very cold windy horrible year okay and I and I was so sad and I was like this is it it's over I'm never I'm never I'm going to be alone for the rest of my life at 26 and I look back and I was such a fool what a fool Spencer chimes in here to commend her she he says there's strength and vulnerability I thought this was lovely and Sam says she has preached about seeing her husband there he can speak for all of them they see their wife as well Sam I mean he said this with a straight face Sam is actually hilarious he but never when he means to be never when he means to be no he has never once been intentionally funny yeah but I actually like unintentional funniness better than intentional it's like our dog like Ruby is hilarious she's never trying to be funny if she was trying to be funny I'd be like G that's annoying it would make her less funny of course and if she was trying to be cute it would make her less cute but she doesn't even know what cut idea so the rest of the cocktail party is basically a montage of lovely one-on-one time with each Sam Marcus and Devin so those same three guys big three a big highlight is Jen saying when she thinks of someone she can rely on it's always Marcus She tells him this to her his face I can rely on Marcus and she looks forward to every moment they have together she does not give out a group date Rose because she felt they all showed up for her so well so this ends up being feel good yeah but I Grant now has his one-on-one date in muari New Zealand that go horseback riding I thought this was cute in his itm Grant says that Jen knows how to carry herself in any situation she's cool smooth so is he she is smooth they both are smooth she is very cool and very smooth more so than I would have expected and more so than I think she knows yes they sit and toast it rains they make out but all in all not a ton in the daytime portion that brings us to the evening Grant shares that his father has been an addict for 30 years wow uh growing up his dad was his superhero when he was little and he would only find out later that his father had always been inebriated can you imagine the struggles his father was going through to be what seems like a good father for the most part while going through that kind of addiction well yeah he didn't really go into detail about how good a father he had been but it seems like he wasn't a bad father yeah he it seemed he was around but Grant when he found out his father's addiction issues he was he felt lied to yeah of course no I know I know in the end it was it was a betrayal but I always I always think that people who go through life putting on their best face and actually doing a fairly good job while dealing with horrible addiction which obviously is masking pain or feeling a horrible void yeah it's always the most to me intriguing intriguing yeah okay yeah and there was more of this my heartstrings a little bit you know to go through that much pain and to just keep giving light to the world is is a very as as I'm getting the feeling he wasn't a bad father I don't know I don't know anything but it feels like that to me well it sounds like it's all coming to a head because he confronted his father about it I guess his father got fired from his job and was sort of blaming everyone else and uh he confronted his father about it and now his dad is trying and he's been sober for almost two months that's great and he says his mission is to be the man his father wasn't so kind of maybe maybe I'm wrong then yeah sort of it didn't feel like he was bashing his father but it definitely sounds like his father protecting him maybe I'm misunderstanding protection for a good father she relates to him it's unbelievable she has a talent they should play this game she you know what she's like she's like those it's like those improv shows where you just throw stuff out you're like uh 12 Monkeys winter in San Francisco chocolate ice cream and they just do a whole show based on those yeah that's she does that with with uh relating to trauma oh not not appropriate no I think that I mean I know what you mean she's incredible at this she finds a way I think that she does it so beautifully in that it would be easy for Le to just be like Oh I'm sorry you experienced that but she finds a way to even if it's not the same experience relate to the emotional outcome or like the the response well she's good at putting herself in other people's shoes when it comes to relationship trauma she just knows she speaks the language she really does she says she also and unfortunately what it shows is that in life if you really want to get good at something go through a lot of bad experiences I hate I'm not encouraging that but I'm just saying personally I feel that the things that I know about relationships come all from the bad stuff hardly ever from the good stuff yeah no I uh I relate to that all right oh thanks Jen she says she also missed out on the father figure she ended up in a toxic relationship where the where uh she felt silenced like she had no voice and when the topics of Asian hate or racism would come up he would make her feel crazy and like they didn't exist this is not a good relationship oh my goodness he encourages her so Grant encourages Jen to speak up and she gives him the rose my favorite moment was when he says I enjoy every time we kiss I mean you know oh my God I love Grant he's adorable ad you called him Andy a big kid he is he's a very big kid like what 66 Hees he has a childlike energy and I say this as a compliment he he feels youthful he there's a lot of light coming out of Grant I agree Rose Ceremony Cocktail Party delightful guy yeah so now we have the rose ceremony cocktail party uh of course it doesn't end up happening because like I said Jen arrives and says she knows what she wants to do and it's canceling the cocktail party she does it herself without Jesse without Jesse where was he was he on the can I kind of loved this I love it when she puts on her serious hat she's like okay I'm The Bachelorette now she's a good boss yeah and she goes out she's got her straight face she's like I know what I'm doing there won't be a cocktail party and then she just turns on her healing leaves yeah no explanation before this happens though I have to mention Grant tells the guys he's genuinely falling in love with Jen Big Move big move and kind of unexpected you know that he really felt it because you know who Grant is and Grant's not the kind of guy who's going to tell that to a group of men unless he really feels it I agree and it it had more of that big kid energy where he was just so excited he was sort of like he it felt like he was really excited about her and he's like you guys like I'm really excited about girl it reminded me of Braden in charity Su where he kissed her and he wanted to tell everybody and people like oh he's an [ __ ] but no he was just like hey guys I kissed the girl the girl who's the lead of the show the one we're all you know he thought it was a cool thing he didn't realize what he was doing but I think that Grant is is an honorable man and he was like like I need to tell everybody like I'm feeling this I need to tell you this is where I am oh I think that he didn't even realize what he was doing I felt like he was just so excited and we have to remember in that setting they're in like some U shape U formation you know and the producers before Jen arrives they're like okay guys so how are you feeling are you nervous do you who do you think's going home like who where do you think you stand like they have all these prompts and so I can see Grant who's just come off his one-on-one where he's on Cloud9 and he does have a bit of that that kind of yeah he's a kid he is a kid like it felt like he was just like and I got ice cream and I'm so excited absolutely I agree but I also find it funny that he's such a squeaky clean guy in the house like no one's going to come at Grant for anything they were all you know they were all like not into hearing that but they were just like biting their tongue no we can't come at Grand he's lovable he's too lovable and that if he had done that on night one where they didn't know him the way Braden did I think it would have been received differently but now we're in week five and he's got friends in the house and people are like oh yeah oh well that's that's nice Oh I thought this was kind of cute yeah it was if not a faux paw so now we have our Rose ceremony going home is just Dylan Rose Ceremony 2 because just Dylan you know what it always sucks to be the only one going home atin I know but she already pieced out it sucks Dylan you know what of all the guys on this show to go home alone I would have picked Dylan last I I feel bad for him I feel like out of of all the guys that I would want to learn more about via a one-on-one date it was Dylan you'll see him on Paradise Dylan will be back you think so I think I'll be back doesn't he have to go to med school doesn't matter med school it gets trumped by bom Paradise yeah everything does so I have to touch on the previews Previews before we get to your aame Andy Jen's saying I'm done letting men dictate my relationships and then her saying I can't let you propose to me I feel like it's pretty obvious that she ends up proposing well that's what they're feeding us oh am I just eating what I'm being fed if you knew as much about this show as I do you would know that this is a a ruse am I just going ah feed me she proposes I can see that being like a very Redemptive move for her but you know we're not supposed to talk about the future no you're right talk about Andy’s A-Game the present okay except for the predictions so that brings us then Andy to your aame easy Jen oh Jen's got the aame for this week her ability to Rel all around all around you know when they do like in gymnastics and the Olympics all around she got the all everything she did I thought was perfection in this episode oh wow yeah okay I mean I can't argue with that all right she's very good at this yeah and so well spoken she's great I'm I'm a big fan and I'm not just saying that because I'm supposed to say that like we're recapping this I I I think I've been pretty honest about leads in the past oh yeah I like Jen I'm GNA say right now one of my favorites I'm a big fan I find her such an active listener yeah she really listens and it just like there's never I I don't feel like she's ever phoning it in and when I do feel like she's phoning it in I love that she's phoning it in cuz I'm like oh she can't fake it she's too honest yes Jen is someone you want to hang out with yes at least I do that's be for everybody so that brings us to our fashion okay so Fashion the first look we saw was the strapless embroidered SL embellished fishtail sweetheart gown strapless floral sorry I'm taking a break for this okay floral her hair is half up H what did you think of this dress Andy let's get your take which dress what do you think I'm gonna say about this dress which dress was this the one that's a strapless floral it's all beaded and embellished and then it's got a fish so it's like fitted until her like the knees and then it flares out and who who who was on the day with her during this no it was the rose ceremony at the beginning of the episode don't remember don't remember the dress oh is that is that your answer it could be it's neither good nor bad it might be indifferent okay you know I think that that lands the plane pretty well actually because to me this dress was nice and I'm sure it's extremely expensive it looked very cure it looked fancy it looked hand Beed hand embellished all the things I just it wasn't really my taste I found it like the opposite of less is more like it was the silhouette was a thing and the embroidery and the beading and the colors the florals there was just a lot going on and I think that when you have a silhouette that is so strong you can pull back a bit with the other details but I mean it was a it was a work of art it was a beautiful dress The Styling to me once again I think her hair should have been like in some sort of a a CH what sorry I I I had a BP coming but I I held it back I thought it would maybe oh you were worried I heard it I've been holding a burp back for a while oh you don't have to hold it back no I it was it's gone it went down again and want to know you're human Andy it went it was going to come and I held it and I was focusing on that and now it's back down oh that's hor maybe never to come again you have to let that out all right well next time go ahead with okay so moving on to uh Jonathan's one-on-one date she was wearing a cornflower blue ribbed knit square neck long sleeve dress with uh a cut out in the front I thought this was really cute I loved this I remember it and I kind of liked it yeah and my favorite part is she wore it with sneakers how great was yeah I do think if her hair had been in like a bouncy ponytail everyone knows yeah but I think it's it's reaching the point where her hair is the same in every look that I can't help but think about how different it would look if her hair were up just for variety but this was certainly my uh favorite look of the episode I think yes okay so now in the evening she's wearing a black beaded or sequined long sleeve plunge neckline mini dress with strong shoulders very sparkly very sparkly this was lovely no I'm kind of a sucker for sparkly uh I do feel like her hair it needed a power pony those shoulders those shoulders when you have a strong shoulder like that you want a power ponytail what's a power pony is it up down like like it's like up and like slicked or has maybe it has a bit of a bant it's just like a ponytail it's not just like oh I threw my hair up cuz I was washing my face right it's a ponytail that took some work yes it's a ponytail that's making a statement my hair is going up I like I like Power Ponies yeah now that you mention it next up we have the group date she's wearing a Canadian tuxedo with a sort of white I said that yeah well I mean that's what it was is that that's it's just that's what it is oh wait are you trying to take credit for having pointed out that it was a Canadian tuxedo as though I'm claing you I'm the Canadian in the world yeah I know but I wanted to show you that I've I've understood Canadian culture the funny thing about Canadian tuxedos is I do not feel that that is Canadian culture like a Canadian tuxedo is not it's sort of like when we talked recently about Canadian bacon like I don't know if I'm like oh yeah that's a Canadian thing well I think where there's smoke there's fire I think a lot of Canadians like a good denim top and bottom well she's wearing it open over a strapless like a sort of tube top with buttons yeah um this look I I'm going to tell you right now I do not like the Canadian tuxedo look never have I think it can be pulled off yeah yeah more of like a sort of chamber top with jeans maybe with like a French tuck I think it can look pretty cool for me it comes down to touchability again I don't like touching denim never have don't like jeans don't like top I denim is not a good touching fabric I mean I would agree that's why I almost never wear jeans I whenever I see someone wearing jeans in a setting where they're supposed to be comfortable I'm like can I know what brand of jeans you're wearing because that to me I do not equate denim with com you know you taught me something I'm not proud to admit but you taught me to not wear jeans around the house yeah I jeans around the house like an animal yeah I changed your life it did change my life thank you she's wearing brown suede boots with this look I get that it was a theme a farm date I get that so they're going for sort of a western Vibe but this look was not it for me it felt very hodgepodge like let's throw a bunch of Wester things together and then for her hair to be down it was like like in her face while she's trying to shovel poop I was like get this girl an elastic and then in the evening she's wearing a cream spaghetti strap mini dress with this sort of like glittery Fringe at the hemline uh a gold mule this was pretty and these cool floral drop earrings again I I it was nice I just it didn't come coat over the entire time so we never got to actually see it oh no what a moment of silence and then the rose ceremony she's wearing a purple beaded low back halter gown her hair is half up I liked this dress this I think the hair variety I'm needing I need I need some hair variety isn't there a hair person on set I'm pretty sure there is so they were just like not interested in doing stuff I think that maybe you know obviously she has a preference so she and her hair is her thing I mean she's got unbelievable hair I if I had hair like her I'd want to wear it down all the time too so I'm not blaming her I just think that styling includes hair and you can do so much with hair do you think anyone feels more strongly about hair being up than you in the world it's not even about being up it's about making the outfit sing I understand what you're saying I'm not criticizing you and I'm not belittling your feelings I think you're right it's I feel like you may be the spokesperson in the world for hair being up I've had multiple people like tell me that they I made them see hair differently like in terms of styling I just think there's just so much potential like why would you it's just there the fact that we didn't see any oneon-one time especially in that group date that he was on you know where he's comforting her applauding her he did applaud her vulnerability in the group but we just didn't see any together time that's concerning to me Grant though I got to say I'm not sure that one-on-one date made think oh Grant is really in the right I don't feel electricity there I
