to do any cherry picking as it relates to this game because it quite literally from the very beginning as Parker Meadows LED off the bottom of the First with a home run the route was on and how many times has this Tigers team been in a position where they're playing this big of a game it's been a while honestly this point in the season you got to go all the way back to really 2016 and this group of youngsters I know we're still calling them that handled themselves with the off day yesterday got back into town and came out with the right mindset the right attitude and I think you credit the coaching staff you credit the maturity of this team and things that we didn't expect to be saying about this Tigers team especially when you look back to the month of June and even really entering the season you knew that this was a year of growth development maturation any type of cliche you want to use that would probably make Scott Harris really happy but now here we are it's September 10th and we're playing meaningful baseball fighting for a wild card spot and when you've got the opportunity where the schedule weekends a bit you got to take full advantage and I mean that tonight's game checks every single box of taking full advantage and you know we mentioned ker Montero the second segment we're going to go into how good he was first complete game shut out for a tiger since Spencer Turnbull that's right you remember that one the no hitter and ker Montero just looked Rock SA we will break down his start but I want to go through the scoring because like I said you had an opportunity in a big spot to take advantage of a lesser opponent and that's exactly what this team did you can't say enough about Parker Meadows this team just wins when Parker Meadows is in the lineup and I know was his high school buddy pitching uh with block there and it was good to see that the benetti and the broadcast crew they love those human interest stories and why wouldn't you it it makes for great television but uh steps up to to the plate and just bombs a home run to right to put the Tigers up one- nothing and then the second inning how do you respond up one nothing bottom of the second they didn't waste any time load the bases and Riley green good to see him uh making the contributions to the offense because we've talked about his struggles um since coming back from the injury but man that was a huge spot for the three run triple he's two for three tonight two runs scored and the three RBI you love to see that Parker Meadows as well three RBI but I'm sorry I'm getting ahead of myself because I'm just there's so much exciting things to to break down and to talk about tonight now continuing with that Onslaught in the second inning to just break it open make it a big inning already up four nothing got to give props to Matt verling singles home Riley green to finish that job make it a four-run frame in the second inning five nothing tigers and at this point you are in cruise control and you feel good especially with the way CER Montero was dealing but any insurance absolutely will take it sixth inning Matt verling again Parker Meadow scored what a night Parker Meadows had I mentioned it two for three three runs he had the one home run the three RBI really awesome stuff from Parker medals and like I said this team just wins when he's in the lineup and then Carri Carpenter with the sack fly in that that scored Riley green and then aan got in on the action you knew he would and I also saw um a couple of the Tigers beat riters uh tweeted this out before the game I want to make sure I give credit to the right person here um a number of Tigers players dealing with some illnesses that's why Dylan dingler didn't get the start um Chris Makowski there we go Chris makosi of the uh what is he free press or news oh I'm so sorry I don't know this uh I think he is we'll go news doesn't saying is bio I am so sorry one of the beat writers for the tigers um but anyway said 14 players fighting illnesses Dylan dingler scratch Spencer Tolsen fighting it and so on and so forth so in a very important time uh the Tigers have guys playing flu games and let's hope it's not uh something that has a lasting effect but uh man my goodness what a fun night tonight like I mentioned you just the anticipation was there for this game because of the stakes and you talk about going out and delivering one through nine in the lineup delivered um well Jake Rogers 0 for four and jaay young 0 for two but he did score two runs there you go so um that being said Colt Keith looked good at the plate two for four um Carri Carpenter had an 0 for three night but he had the One RBI Andy Aban one for four and Trey Sweeney one for three and Jake Rogers like I mentioned 0 for four but lots to get into we're going to continue to unpack this one I want to talk more about Kar Montero and why he was was so good and was this it seems like montero's aside from the last start in um who's that San Diego that same kind of thing because Tigers had a 5 nothing lead and that game cater montaro started in San Diego where the Padre's came back from five nothing so great to see him finish the job and he's starting to do what we've talked about in episodes past when he pitches where he has an opportunity to be evaluated because of the injuries and the pitching staff gets the call up and with starts like these obviously he's making the most of that and you love to see it so lots of comments let's get into them right away appreciate everybody tuning in it's always a pleasure to have everybody live and locked in if you will on our locked on Tigers postcast Jason Walter is up first the offense was great but CER Montero had himself a KN indeed Steve savano Kaiser doing his best scoble imp impression absolutely um scoel hasn't gone a complete game shut out yet this year I kid scoble is our Terk Sai Young scoel there you go merry time Adam what's happening my friend Montara was amazing Parker was Parker wasting no time crushing the second Pitch of the game and then it was only up from there nice to see the Tigers crush the bad teams to help them help them try and get that last spot there you go that's what we're going to be talking about the rest of the night um unfortunately I think the twins are in front comfortably I know they were at one point Royals up 8 nothing nothing on the Yankees right now twins 84 top of the six it was six nothing so um although I'm not really counting on the Angels there but hey that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes and we've we've said this we know the Tigers have to go something like 14 and five you know and something to that effect uh to even have a chance so all we can do right now is win every game and see how the chips fall um there you go was that cliche enough all right YouTube user love that username ker Montera with the pitching performance to remember for the rest of his life hinch and Harris may have a legitimate pitcher on the roster in Montero yeah um you're going to look back at this one and say wow this is when we knew ker Montero was a part of the future for the Detroit Tigers Demetrius mcneel is up next what's happening nine innings 96 pitches three hits from montaro excellent work Jake the way the Tigers hitters keep playing like this we see them in October my last Tigers game is September 26 which is Thursday all right there you go I appreciate the update Demetrius mcneel and my goodness we're all rooting for it that's for sure Gareth ridings mono the 11 to nothing just an onslaught of hits from the beginning jump all over the starter for the Rockies Bradley balock and knocked him out of the game after five innings or five runs rather through just the two innings he went four total gave up the four earned runs and uh four strikeouts go with five walks now CER Montero let's talk about his final line right he gets the win tonight nine innings that's a complete game three hits zero ear in runs five strikeouts you love to see it just incred incredible stuff from ker Montero face the minimum which is awesome also utiliz the double play ball several times great stuff there as far as the pitches he was really good they talked about this on the broadcast 11 whiffs and I love a good whiff but that was some concern in some previous starts he wasn't fooling a lot of people but you could say he had that tonight 11 whiffs his best on the season so what else did we like obviously we always talk about this but attacking the at Strike Zone 15 first pitch strikes called strikes swinging strikes and foul balls he had the 17 swinging strikes and great stuff there from CER Montero and I also found it interesting that the Rockies didn't necessarily adjust they were and that was part of the reason he could get through nine innings because the Rockies were swinging at first pitches often and that can be a pitcher's best friend when you're trying to stockpile outs and we saw that from CER Montero tonight and it really is one of those nights where everything you thought you wanted to see really happened I mean there's not one thing you can look at this box score or any part of this game and say man it just didn't wasn't there tonight it really was all there and that's what makes kns like tonight so fun so we got a couple other comments to get into um I want to make sure everybody has their voice heard on the lock on Tigers postcast we've got Rufus El got the day baseball check in I always liked Montero so happy for him absolutely and Steve saviano reminding us 12 games versus Orioles Royals and Rays got to go eight and four maybe nine and three in those games along with sweeping Colorado and the white socks let's effing go yeah that's kind of how I feel too um gotta and you know they talked about this on the broadcast and I kind of happen to agree where the two sides of the coin with the whole strength of schedule thing is you just got to go out and win games or you just I mean you just got to go out and play your best is is what I meant to say it ruined my whole uh my whole stick there you got to go out and play your best and let the chips fall as they may when you play your best you obviously have a better chance to be a lesser opponent sometimes you're going to play your best and still lose and especially against really good teams and that's why you play 162 baseball games it's not like any other sport where the sample size I mean baseball just the Classic water Finds Its level it's such a marathon and the are a testament to that I mean me included um I thought the interactions on Twitter from some of my old friends at 971 the ticket were pretty hilarious today with rer with rer and Mark Ryan going back and forth that's I mean that's fun when ba when your baseball team is relevant you have those fun conversations and those opinions and I miss those days rer and I used to talk about this all the time where the Tigers were appointment viewing every single night and those teams led by Jim Leland just galvanized this entire city and I this team isn't quite there yet but they are getting there and a final push in the month of September to really make it a Sprint for that Al wild card would really go a long way and rejuvenating this town's love for the Tigers I think that I think major steps have already been made and and it's it's sometimes as simple as saying winning will do that and that's that's truly how I feel winning will do that the city loves winners look at what happened with the Lions and look what's happening with the Tigers right now so great stuff right there all right we've got Ryan with a Ryan commenting montaro with the Nick Marsh level performance there you go I don't need any of the uh Sparty versus Michigan people in the comments going back at it and whatnot uh that's good stuff all the way I do respect I love a a good healthy respect for the Rivalry though and I and I admit I tell people that watch the locked on Michigan or lock on Wolverine postcast I am not a Michigan fan by any means um but I love following the team I love college football and follow it to a te not just the Big 10 but everything I mean I'm watching pack well not Pack 12 after dark anymore sometimes it's big 10 after dark I'm watching college football till 1 in the morning every single Saturday night that's just what we do here all right there we go glad to have everybody along for the lock on Tigers postcast been a little bit all over the place tonight I admit but that's sometimes what happens when you get fired up after an 11 nothing victory for the tig ERS in a huge spot and a complete game shut out for CER Montero that's the story staff obviously um not one to write home about so this Tigers offense needing to continue to take advantage of that um the one thing the Rockies do okay um I mean not as egregious as their record might be is they do hit the ball um from time to time so um big one tomorrow they're all big at this point am I right that's what makes it fun so with that said and this is crazy and they talked about this on the broadcast but the Tigers actually have three projected starting pitchers for this series really exciting stuff although AJ hinch was sure to remind Daniela Bruce who did a tremendous job on the broadcast tonight Danielle a good friend of mine um good to see her thriving and uh the question you can just picture the interaction with AJ hinch saying it doesn't matter when the pitchers pitch you know they all know they've got a job to do and you got to kind of appreciate because that's just AJ hinch's personality um but uh tomorrow Casey M that's a 640 first pitch so we'll be on the air following that and then Terk scoble will go Thursday afternoon 110 first pitch and like we said in the comments Tigers I mean I see no reason why they don't sweep this series against the rocky need a nice start from M tomorrow and then obviously scoble um he didn't get the win the last time he started was no decision so he'll be uh chomping at the bits to get back out there all right when I meant to say Seattle everybody's done that you know roast me in the everybody roast me in the comments come on Rea doesn't know the difference between the Cincinnati Reds and Seattle Mariners he sucks he's the worst all right seatt Mariners are home against the Padres that game is about to begin and unfortunately the twins have extended their lead 104 over the Angels bottom of the six and the Red Sox losing to the Orioles the Tigers next opponent so um the Orioles that is not the Red Sox but the Red Sox uh vying for position in that AO Wild Card Standings um as well anybody else we
