started 93 games in his career Russy Wilson started a bunch of games handed off to Patterson there and he was met promly Pascal had a great game a week ago against Kansas City he jumps in and make the tackle there speaking of his defensive thck and look at the starting lineups presented by Ford so Josh Pas was really the guy who jumped out a week ago along that front had a sack a clutch forced fumble with Abraham ban recovered as well trying to step up against what could be Russell Wilson in the first half and Justin fields in the second [Applause] half going to need to get some pressure on Russell Wilson the more time you give him back there the easy you make it to pick pick him off hole opens up up the middle here for Patterson and he'll Walt right into the end zone 30 yards 30 quick yards on the opening neck being in the receiver Lions had the number two Russian defense the NFL a season ago of course not seeing the starters that'll be a part of that front in 15 days when they do game but is the Steelers who didn't score a touchdown in their preseason game a week ago who have the scoring underway today and funk will bring this out caught in the landing Zone get a nice block and took it just past the 30 before being brought down by Jaylen Elliot and now here comes henden hooker could they play him the entire game today likely won't do that but the priority is dousing hooker with refs in his first start today dumps it off and has the running back Donovan Knight who picks up about eight yards there good position for this offense early on second and two they flip it back out to zavan Knight stretches it out got a good block patience W pick up the first down this team has limited roster spots you know a lot of them are filled up but who can leave it on the line today to try to grab the ones that are available mention zra he's a guy who's trying to grab one of those spots hooker right back to it under pressure again this time he'll smartly take the sack really been incredible though how poised he's been in the pocket don't forget you can take away the sack there but play before just how com he's been in the pocket especially last week and has made such drives from Spring until now stay in the pocket again but it collapses again and this is where we need the growth we need to be able to decipher and filter out what you need trying to keep the pocket held up on the outside but the ball is out and the Steelers right now Patterson still in the back field for the Steelers had the 30yd touchdown run to open up this game they play f it to him this time then roll it out to Van Jefferson who's wrapped up by Steven Gilmore went a pick in the preseason here last year hey speaking of so the line are going to have to make some adjustments and get some pressure Fields will takeen himself with his legs he's done that quite a few times in for field looks like he has enough for the first down he played the majority of their game last week 11 Campbell said this is a big game for him speak finish up with four of the last six at home just learn that the Rams left tackle Lara Jackson will be suspended for the first two games without pay so could potentially play a role in that season opener here at for field like so if you can handle business at home you'll be selling into the playoffs we pray that's the Hope right now you could potentially only play three games outside All Season as well Crossing route intended for Donovan P Jones B Mark there when you think of those outo games Green Bay Chicago San Francisco other than that you got I'm all about it look Chicago and Green Bay are not bad places to play unless you're playing late in December and then it's freezing but otherwise The Field's going to be in decent shape the weather should be mild John rice Plumley who is playing quarterback and returning kicks in this preseason for the Steelers trying to make the roster gets brought down especially the defensive front that will dip into throughout the broadcast and the re who secondary as well very competitive and aggressive I those guys don't mind tackling and they want to do the dirty work which is which stands out to me but what I worry about is they they haven't played together much and at the cornerback position you're going to be thrown bunches and and different typ different types of like formations that you have to be able to communicate right away and let's look it over maybe dine you're not going be able to sit back there and pick them all and and throw and have a lot of time and so that's going to help the DBS as well they're going to have to cover for less time see oh on third down Fields didn't see the snap coming and finally the lions look like they'll get a defensive stop due to the miscue from Pittsburgh on third down lost to four there nearly got the ball back there was never really luck to get this ball back Zack Frasier was snapping it Isaiah Williams is back to return this C there's already a flag in the air makes one man missed looking for that edge on the left side cuts it back and for the second straight drive potentially Isaiah Williams might set the Lions up with some really good field position you remember when I said it is going to be important to leave it on the field so far Isaiah receiving team number 40 10yd first down and what more can you ask this young man he's getting a breather on this play after the return they'll flip it out try to set up a screen didn't work found zra but it wraps up promptly by T bring zra in motion run to that side with Jefferson and picks up about four hey Danny he say rookie offensive lineman Manu was just 10 years old when he left his native island of Tonga to live in Canada with his siblings when he left he was normal size he just needs some ice packs on his shins Manu played 100% of the snaps last week at Kansas City I have a feeling he brought the ice packs back out again you guys he's on that left side hooker runs away from that side and picks up a first down go handen hooker extending the play eight yds there lions are exp have been putting a lot of pressure in Lions offense see if they can carry depend on Sam La Porto offensive coordinator Ben Johnson told me this past week that they didn't even lons have five players on that list that could be bound for another breakout year to come John Jack Fox who played against his former team last week and Bates making his PA for that field goal kicker position and Van Jefferson makes a good catch for first down working against Steven Gilmore there gain of 12 Brandon Joseph came down and just tried to lay the boom and get that ball out he's another guy that's been playing really hard seems as though he might have locked in that fourth safety spot OB he's been playing coaching staff calls him an expert coach out there on the field Pine who has a touchdown today going to cut it back for a couple of tackles and then Summers finally drags him down but it should be another first down in a gain of 11 the fundamentals need to be better here you cannot alexone as good as they come when it comes to tackling out the full team orchestration oh second and 10 here for [Applause] pyan it's been really good to have you back here went down to field earlier had some good catch ups and there's the first time this lion defensive line really steps up and is able to get to field there a loss of 12 most of the first half have not entire first half possibly even the third quarter to henden Hooker today Dan Campbell said if he were to have a number two right now it would be Nate SFI based on experience you know what you're going to get out of Nate whereas henden still learning and growing in these game situations but got a lot of good experience last week as they pitch it to Jake Funk who is met up the middle I love the upside of hand and hooker he's got the arm FaceTime with his cousin he has his cousin call out the plays and he'll go to the mirror and to go through the scenarios like he's in a game dumps it off but not into the hands of zra there timing just wasn't in this off in this preseason his mom's telling him to make sure to slide that's the that's the key now he has not done that this game yet got to listen to mom always third and eight a whistle and looks like be a time Detroit they first and the half 30 second timeout the clock was running down they didn't have much time left they had to do that Dan cam look couple of play positive plays on top of each other we've seen flashes in which that's not what Dan kampbell wants he wants consistency with this category you can name points rushing yards passing yards Red Zone efficiency most touchdowns in the lion season in franchise history 27 points per game that consistency was the theme trying to find the extra pieces they're going to fit into the puzzle 15 days from now when the Rams offense number 59 5yd penalty third now that'll set it back they get Manu makes it nearly impossible at times was one of those borderline everyone but the center ones and hooker steps up and he is sacked for the fourth time in this opening half that is Julius welsha the undrafted Erie from Germany the offensive line they have to stand and hold their ground a little bit better last few weeks or certainly last week they were firing it looked comfortable they found their Rhythm and that's going to be key moving forward J.R plumbley again back to return this one but he let it hop out of bounds Lions defense made a stop last time but like you said in the open you're trying again he said that's one of his bucket list to place at the line hopefully play at some point one day Kyle Allen in at quarterback now for the Steelers hand it off this Lions defense was able to get a stop on the last Drive flip it back over to offens to se see what the guys are going to be Main Stays in the offense this year Aman Rin Brown Jameson Williams two All Pro talents there all pro talents you think Jameson Williams is the xor absolutely I think this guy's speed is insane and obviously he can run down the field but because he has so much speed if he can tighten up his intermediate routes he's going to be dangerous cuz you want to sell every route as if you're running a go but then you want to shut it down around 10 to 12 yards or 16 yards in one of those intermediate routes and that's going to be wide open because DBS are going to get out of there the next step for J Mo don't ride the wave of emotion he gets into the Zone he does a really good job of it he can't FL fluctuate when things go poorly he's been so explosive in Tamp making highlight real play after highlight real play there's a throw underneath the Scotty Miller wildig Goose on the tackle going be short of a first down I mean everything about J Mo in trainning Camp the flare the footwork the ball didn't do too much to her but going back to these receivers like look you got your leader armar raah who was lead by example and showing you the blueprint of how to be successful I mean this is a guy gra a little bit later turned himself into one of the best players in the league I'm R was a pro bowler last season there's got to catch it first and then [Applause] go got Kaden Davis in there who had the 61 yd catch in the second quarter last week hooker's looking that direction and has Kaden Davis so comes up just short of the first down Kaden Davis had about 30 members in Kansas City last week coming over from his home state of Kansas and just had a really big day against St you saw his Focus want to see him get more involved try to get the dirty yardage here with funk see if they give him enough to Mo the chains if not you think maybe decision time just to get a spark going even though you're on your own side of the 40 but one of the good sounds to hear at Ford Field it's a Detroit Lions first down let's see if we can string a couple good plays together for the Lions and let's see if we can get this this crowd involved they're hungry to get [Applause] involved and in hooker dangerous throw looking for people as Jones dran Arnold who tried to jump the been a great mentor for henden hooker during the early stages of his career going to take you back to a foure memory my friends so first off start with Jared gof we go back to week 15 against Denver last year five touchdown passes zero interceptions quarterback to 2015 Matthew Stafford throwback for Lions fans here against the Eagles Thanksgiving Day you caught one of those touchdown passes naturally Calvin Johnson had three of them yeah I I remember that I I believe I walked in on the for the touchdown from like the one or something five catch 50 yards that day too as Isaiah Williams gets the first down there it is there's your guy gain of 17 and Jared is up and Ling it Jared's getting a little excited on the sideline I said ear William has been spectacular all the preseason a very fun player to watch hooker back to the air steps up that was batted down but starting to feel a little juice in the offense now Isaiah Williams tends to bring that like you said they bring him right back in take me through what's kind of the conundrum with his size in build right now in the slot position his ability is there he's a nice route Runner he's crisp he's just like a few other where I wonder how he's going to find his his leg he's up top he's moving in the in the slot across the slot into a bunch formation and they run that way big gaping hole for Funk who's getting the majority of these carries now in the second quarter get a look see what he does here that's his strength in that's slot hooker pressured early has to use his legs and does oh he got out of the tackle there and oh nearly found a touchdown getting down to the two on a gain of 19 slipped initially out of the tackle of Thomas Graham and got all the way down to the two at times so now first and goal offense is Flowing Funk with a cut gets wrapped down around the [Applause] ankles Jared G wondering like how do we not get that ball into the endzone there find a way knocking on the door to possibly cut this Steelers lead in half maybe going into the locker room or if he can get a quick stop still a two [Music] timeouts a hooker as Funk wants him in the end zone and has him with a good job just going through your down just catch it fall in and here we are so now Bates can cut this lead in half by sacking on the extra point we've gotten to know that he likes the left hatch based on last week and we like that back in 30 [Music] seconds and a kick off the lions are just they're at their best when they can find the Rhythm and they struggle to do that the first several [Applause] drives hey processing it maybe a tag bit slower which will come with reps it just needs reps like coach Campell said get your reps Allen flips it out to Scotty Miller as Strickland missed the first tackle and he's knocked out of bounds by Bassie gain of two there preseason game and then of course a regular season game after that yeah but it starts in practice you got you have to fly around in practice you have to do it right in practice because that's how you get those opportunities your coaches you practice way more than you play we've hit the two-minute Mark 147 Steelers L's looking for a stop maybe get the ball backs here my favorite fan related things in for field is back now officially the Simba cam oh yeah I I used to love hold up my youngest girl uh blundon because I was the only child I had back then but man some cute babies out here with their ear ear muffs on throwing since then oh yeah got three L rasal at home now now that ball came out it is out and it is live can the lions come out with it it looks like this might be in Detroit hands let's see who is at the bottom still fighting for it Lions defense swarmed to that ball once it was on the ground and that's just a testament of their personality and what Dan Campbell is teaching these guys balls on the ground it's all about the ball swarm go get the ball and right there been a fun guy to talk about in this preseason we know John Kaminsky went down with the injury the Marcus Davenport stepping up now hooker back on an offense back to the air he goes over the middle and it is the man who caught the touchdown pass last week in payon Davis as a more situational work here for henden hooker they'll run it this time running game starting to look a little better too Jamar Jefferson with the carry another the half 30 second timeout did that against SEC Defenders couple of years ago at Tennessee last year was essentially a red shirt year for Lions knew that was going to be the case learned a lot though during that year Watching from afar now he's in the midst of it and getting his first start today he said it's been a blessing to be out there not taking any snap for granted he'll roll it out here here off the fake will he use his legs he will Scoops up and it'll be first and goal with 38 seconds I'm I'm glad he went out of bounds there and didn't try to do a little extra it sounds simple but Dan kemell even told us in the final drive last week against Kansas City getting the ball to that left hash clocking it getting up bringing Jake Bates out even that can be something that a younger player can overthink so it's vital to get refs with it and now another late game late half situation here in this second quarter Jefferson trying to push the pile a big gain for him trying to get one of those depth spots at running back giv D top two guys at that position coming off at historic season when he combined what those two did at running back but this opening half it has really been Resurgence in the second quarter now [Applause] [Music] so now with 28 seconds to go you've used that final [Applause] timeout right right here I I think you probably need to throw the ball just in case it's incomplete you can stop the clock they opt to run it and now a chance to tie the game with the extra points in new game Bates coming on for the extra point gets it through and we're noted up at 14 the the running backs having some fun over there I'm not sure if they're talking about the celebration or are they talking about the run but they're having fun I'll probably show some love to a little bit of both but I think they're talking about the the celebration see Al R in there giving some celebration advice he's had some good ones himself he's a good one to get some advice from he's got some of everything obviously the running back situation is fantastic it's a resigned o line for Jared gof by the way little happy birthday shout out to Taylor Decker who had a birthday yesterday he resigned not too long ago right now could be an ex actor over there Isaac uku had the strip sack earlier so now henden hooker will float it out and zra makes the catch Little Ballerina work along the sideline tip toe his way for a first down really nice job depth is what really stands out you can mix and match these guys and you're going to open up open up the playbook for Aaron Glenn the defensive coordinator to do some really cool things that confuse quarterbacks because hooker one and bounc in there incomplete was a good throw a very nice throw I thought he came down with it for a second I love the shot right there on the coverage I've seen them take today so good they're thr throwing the ball down the field and that H has had time to throw it down the field been a good balance between run and pass today zenan Knight with the carry there really interested where does Donovan fit where does Funk fit where does vaky fit into this equation Craig Reynolds had a touchdown in that divisional game against Tampa last year in this building you know what you're going to get out of Craig Reynolds like you said who and where do the other guys fit in the Knight is leaking out here but hooker will take it himself self and a nice job to get out of bounds save his body get the first down pick up of seven [Applause] there now on the plus side of the 50 again looking for what would be a third straight scoring drive after a rough start I've lifted themselves up off the mat hooker's been the QB in since the first snap of the game back to of a night they go so mentioned that running back group Danny has more on that running back gr mhm the best running back dual in the league David Montgomery and jir Gibbs have their eyes set on setting more history this season they had 23 combined touchdowns and over 1,00 rushing yards last season Montgomery told me we have bigger goals this season the only thing they won't tell anyone what that goal is they're keeping it under wraps but Montgomery said we're going to get better because Gibbs and I both know what we do do best it's going to create some healthy competition I don't know I got these guys going for 30 TDS maybe 2500 yards this season speaking of running the football handed hooker had to scoop that up off the turf there is a flag down I'd agree with Danny on that bet I'd take [Applause] it 14 a piece here we'll see what the flag is for defense number 53 that is dein result of the play the first down Don Willard our new referee making that call and some improvisation on display there from henden hooker last season he was really motivated by the fact that he didn't hit a thousand that's uh something that's been pushing him all summer long a special player no doubt he can do everything uh him exploding through the hole I've never seen anything like it how he explodes in that one step and then once he's gone it doesn't even like he's really trying he's just kind of floating and separating from people and so this combination between him and B mcgomery is so special because you have a Bruiser if you need it you also have a guy who can get out the back field and catch on option routes and you can move them I I anticipate the lines do a lot of motions and Jet sweeps with this group of guys and like pick your poison okay you're going to try to stop I'm okay well we're going to go get uh leaport J Mo down the field speaking of tight ends zra makes another grab and to your point jir Gibbs was sixth in the NFL in yards before contact so he's racking up a lot before you even touch him and then he's so slippery to try to bring down after that yeah on top of all these athletes you out on the field you got argu arguably the best offensive line in the NFL that been they these guys been playing together for a long time some of these guys were here when I was playing which is a bunch of years ago and so and then you let Jer goit back there in zones he will pick you apart back to the ground game back to another first down zov Knight taking the carry there had Kevin zitler to that offensive line 34y Old Guard he's going to be the oldest o lineman for Detroit but a guy who brings a season coming off a Pro Bowl in year 12 he started 181 lions are back in the Red Zone here with henden hooker at the [Applause] controls got mchu in the former Michigan Wolverine in motion they run towards that side stopped up in zeitler I I played with zeitler in New York with the Giants and we talk he's a pro he he plays the game the right way he plays hard he shows up ready to work every day and he is all about getting in the trenches and doing the dirty work and he does a fantastic job I mean you say he's 34 years old and he he plays like he's 28 29 yeah he'll be ready to go an offensive line will be ready to go week one a second and eight here for henden hooker looks one way then the other opts to go to the third option which are his legs and picked up nine we'll just call that that was a half a slide right there he did I'm running out of time I need to do something throw it or take off and you're seeing that feeling that [Applause] back to Knight there who falls forward does he have enough this will be very fall nonstop and then they're going to hit you over the top and so teams are going to be tired and we know that the Lions would be one of the best conditioned teams in the creative in what they run and the gadget plays so Dan and Company are going to be really trying to figure out what they're going to do as far as the players I anticipate them having uh several practices when I was playing we only had you know you finish on a Thursday you had the weekend and you're back at it playing but they have a little bit longer time so what I would do when I played I would go to Notre Dame to catch out catch a game what they played at home uh once I had children we would try to escape somewhere local you know from here maybe go to Florida uh get some sunshine because once the season starts it's it's a true Lind you're in it Steven Gilmore in it there made the tackle sh string tackle so now third down coming up keep an eye on who is stepping up but the positions in this third quarter and fourth quarter still to go Kyle Allen still in at QB for the Steelers who open up their season against the Falcons and now Allen looking down the sideline into one-on-one and it's Dez Fitzpatrick the Michigan native who has a big play down the field was able to beat Gilmore and the former Harrison High School Hawk and also went to water Waterford M High School able to make a big play of 60 [Applause] yards Dez I played with him in Tennessee briefly and you knew that he was going to be a solid player the speed along with the size really separates him he's always a highly touted prospector in his high school days in Michigan went to Louisville now with the Steelers back home in his home state with a 60yd play try to stretch it out with shamlin there the lions are offering the ability during three tap and it's taking Master tackle in the back field nonetheless he slowed him down a little bit so his buddies can get there to to make a tackle B play a guy who was signed last week had to quickly learn the Playbook now in his second preseason game Allen back to work in the Red Zone this time out of the reach of his intended target jeray Goose recently signed bring Fitzpatrick in motion again here been dangerous on this drive op to hand it off right into the interior of the defense so let's look back at that penalty here you got to get your hands lower I loved how he shadowed him and then when you put your arm out it needs to be in his chest not his face mask cornerback Dan Campbell told us they hope to get Teran Arnold back by week one as Champlin gets another carry on the opposite side you're thinking Carlton Davis who was traded over from Tampa even your other draft pick out of Missouri amek Robertson who we haven't seen today has arly been the most consistent defensive player through those first two preseason games in the slot but they talking about the the quarterback position the Lions address some much needed needs they went out got your first two picks the quarterbacks you brought in the vet guy Caron Davis but athletically they're there and as far as like Talent they're there Allen wanted to former Michigan State Spartan Conor Hayward throws out of his reach Lauren Strickland and Brandon play with each other this off seon very much and that's what worries me about this group um now they're smart guys so they'll catch on pretty quickly but you always got to worry about the communication at the cornerback position because it is they're trying to do so many different things in formations and and Jet sweeps and motion that you got to have your communication at Peak the 26 yd attempt for Matthew Wright is through remember the Lions missed one on the other side so Steelers take a 174 lead in the
