can't get here soon enough that matchup T versus Ravens just two days away the 2024 NFL season is almost here I can't wait even time every time I see it I'm like oh my goodness that's going to be how we open it welcome to NFL live Dan rosi is here Marcus spars is here thank you for the wave we needed that uh Andrew Hawkins will be wave is coming your way every day till mid-February America soak it in we'll have Dan Riano with you for the hour guys let's begin with the Kansas City Chiefs the reigning Super Bowl champs are looking to be the first team ever to threee they made last season's championship winning roster even better with key offseason additions especially on offense right and for more now we bring in Michelle Steels she's joining us from Kansas City what Michelle is Travis Kelce saying about how he feels heading into his 12th NFL season yeah Laura it is an NFL Friday here in KC and it's also Travis Kelce Day always a big day and you're right 12th NFL season that is a ton of mileage on that body but despite having the lowest number of snaps last year that he's played in his NFL career since at least 2014 Travis Kelce told me that no coaches have approached him about potentially being on a snap count against the Ravens on Thursday night he also added even if they did I probably wouldn't listen to him I just love coming in here man it's it's kind of I mentioned St Joe is My Sanctuary I just just love football and how it it takes me away from life and uh it gives me something I can feel genuinely uh happy about I I enjoy coming in the building working on my craft getting to understand a new game plan and perfecting that for the people around me uh gives me a purpose to kind of go about my day and and to live my life and I just uh I have so much excitement doing it it's exciting it's the first uh first game of the season everybody wants to come out and you know show how exposive they are show how great they or how much better they got from last year this going to be a great challenge for us but um I think everybody's just fired up to to get out in front of Arrowhead and get this season started fired up he said that he feels physically great which of course is a far cry from week one of 2023 when he didn't play in that game against the Lions because he had a knee injury now this is of course a big national game all the attention is going to be on the Chiefs and the Ravens and if we know one thing about Travis Kelsey it's something about these big moments right where he's able to find another gear and he told me when it comes to week one when it comes to the 2024 season he is quote ready to rock Laura I saw him with that ESPN hat too we like that teammate good job Travis uh the Chiefs had one of the worst wide receiving cores in the NFL last season they had 25 drops seven more than the next closest team Kansas City decided to make wholesale changes this off season trading up to draft Xavier worthy in the first round and then bringing in Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith Shuster so they've made so many improvements on a team that already won the Super Bowl Marcus when you think about this how do you think the wide receiver changes impact Kansas City especially in a rematch with the Ravens yeah I I I thought about Andy Reid first Boogie and Dan can relate to this and the creativity with the speed that he has but also not letting that speed take away from the fact that these guys are really polished wide receivers Xavier worthy especially I know a lot of people got excited about his combine numbers and the things that was able to do there but more than just being a speed guy he's in an offense where he's going to be used and space is going to be created for him regardless of how fast you are and Maris Brown as well known as another speed guy but true to their wide receiver roots that is what I love about these additions obviously we know that Travis Kelce will be man in the middle of the field finding those oneon-one and being huge in this passing game but now you have significant speed but you also have polished receivers and I think that's something to pay attention to as the season goes along with Andy Reid and his creativity offensively and how he will deploy these guys being true wide receivers that just are out of their mind fast Patrick Mahomes has got a rookie protecting him at left tackle that's probably a storyline that we haven't talked enough about this off season could you imagine the pressure the young man that they drafted out of BYU Kingsley Andy Reed and the cre it that Marcus is referencing and the speed it's great but they got to go into this game on Thursday night to kick off this season with a rookie at left tackle and I know Patrick can mitigate it a little bit but Patrick's a very unique quarterback to protect VAR because the amount of time that he's going to hold on to the football and the kind of the movement within the pocket I think that's like a fascinating storyline for Thursday night is how much does Andy Reid think he has to protect him Matt naggie their play caller do they have to protect can they cut him loose how does he do tackles was a massive issue for this football team last year we talked about how much they helped him those offensive tackles now with a rookie is it the same story or they do they kind of like take the bandaid off and he go protect against or you know protect for the best quarterback in football we're going to have to pay attention to that for sure and how does the Ravens defense come out with a bang with that we will talk more about this game later in the show but to the news of the day the 49ers look to be coming together in just the next time okay Trent Williams back with the team trying to finalize a deal ahead of their Monday night opener that maybe would let him be out there let's get more on that we welcome in our NFL Insider Dan Graziano gra what changed in the situation to get Williams back into the facility what well Brandon auk signed and that gave the 49ers more time to work on the Williams issue uh also you know Trent Williams 36 like I don't want to cast dispersions but some of these guys don't don't super duper love going to training camp as they get later in their careers either so so I think Trent was okay uh hanging out and waiting for this but now it's week one time to get serious Trent Williams has three years left on his contract excuse me and uh a lot of times with these situations it's about moving up some money from future years Laura I'm losing my voicey I'm so excited about Trent Williams moving up money from future years uh and maybe guaranteeing some because three years left on the contract but no guaranteed money so we'll see how the reworked contract comes out but I would think the Trent Williams ends up with some guaranteed money this year and Poss next year great job powering through there G get a sip of water for sure okay we're going to let you go he his son to college not long ago he's getting emotional te eyed it's a tough we've all been there before where there's like a frog and you're like oh just don't fail me boie Boogie boie tring to help him out that's that yak that's that yak he's it's 4m. straight up all right Dan how do you see this 49ers offense trying to attack a talented Jets defense on Monday night hope hopefully Trent Williams is done by then and he's back out there yeah so I say Advantage Kyle Shanahan because Kyle Shanahan this 49ers offens it's so about getting easy or or quick completions ball out in space trying to manipulate Zone Defenders the New York Jets and Robert solid play a ton of his zone defense so I sit there and I go Kyle's going to find different ways to create small little windows and very clear reads for Brock pie mcaffrey and their screen game will be a huge part because Kyle loves to take advantage of aggressive defenses and aggressive pass rushes he'll get the ball out and space to players like Debo Samuel I do think it'll be really interesting to watch Brock pie and I've said this and Marcus you know it R you know it Ultra aggressive quarterback make some throws and try some throws when you're like man you're trying to fit into that window when you're playing an elite speed zone defense that always gets interesting to me because the quarterback doesn't change his spots that often and so is he going to come out that aggressive and can the Jets defensively take advantage of what I would say is his biggest strength yeah do perfect when you talk about the Zone the one thing that came to my mind was obviously Quincy Williams and CJ Mosley and how they try to contain Christian mcaffrey in all the ways that KY Shanahan uses him and when you look at the matchup that to me is going to determine what this game looks like like from an offensive standpoint with San Francisco here's the one thing for all the creativity and the things that we talked about with Kyle Shanahan and what he can do to get guys in space yards after the catch is why San Francisco kills people it's the reason why they are so explosive and when you start talking about a defense with the type of speed that you mentioned with the New York Jets and when they come they bring uh bad intentions and I think they have two of the top five linebacker groups in the entire NFL so I'm interested to see not only the in space matchup with Quincy Williams and CJ Mosley but also how they try to contain chrisen mcaffrey when he is in the slot when they do move him around and run that screen game with him will will it be those guys making tackles or will it be more about a rally and coming down in that zone that you're talking about don't forget fella I mean Robert Salah not that long from being Kyle Shanahan's defensive coordinator Kyle actually when he was down in Tampa years ago would go and learn defensive like sit in the defensive meetings so he could learn the rules of the defensive players in certain schemes and that's the best way to attack so he's going to know basically everything about Robert salah's defense and exactly how he wants to attack some of the principles and the rules of it another layer to a great game you're talking about mcaffrey you guys see there on the screen he's returning to practice after missing much of training camp dealing with that cap injury but expected not to be serious it' be good to have him back out there now one player on this 49ers offense that won't be out there is Ricky peol the 49ers rookie piol was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco on Saturday he didn't need surgery and was released from a hospital on Sunday his mother said on social media that the bullet exited his back and missed vital organs a 17-year-old male suspect was arrested by authorities let's get gr back in here so thankful obviously that he's going to be okay gr what does this mean for his football future yeah Laura obviously they'll give him whatever time he needs to recover but I mean what you described there is is a is a miracle and and he's up and about it he's been interacting with teammates and uh GM John Lynch actually told reporters a short time ago out there that Piera is already on him about when can I come back and play so they put him on non-f football injury list so he has to by rule miss the first four games at least uh and then I guess you know it depends on sort of what what harm was done right we know we know okay and up and about but did it damage a muscle like something like that so they'll work with him for the next four weeks and see what kind of shape he's in but uh he seems to be in good spirits by all accounts uh and very fortunate obviously to be where he is but uh it does sound like the 49ers believe he will play at some point this year again leaving that entirely up to him in the short term for sure yeah again just thankful for the miracle that occurred and that he'll be okay we'll see when he gets back on the football field thanks to Gra for the latest there we're just getting started on NFL live after a disappointing into last season the Eagles Are Back In Action Sunday but someone here thinks Jaylen Herz and that offense could have their hands full away from the Eagles and Packers playing in the NFL's first ever game from Brazil Philadelphia got off to an excellent start last year the start important going 10 and one in their first 11 games Jaylen Herz ranked sixth in the league in total QB but then it all fell apart Herz and the Eagles went one and five in their final six regular season games lost the division and then lost to the Bucks 32 to9 in the Wild Card round in Tampa Philly will be the first team to face Green Bay's new defensive coordinator Jeff Halley and head coach Nick serani spoke about that challenge moments ago you have to uh you have to try to dig as much as you possibly can um also knowing that week one there's a lot of unknowns that are going to happen throughout the league right even with people with with defensive coordinators that have been there for the year we we'll have to be ready for for anything but you know without giving up uh secrets of what we've done uh you know we've looked at a bunch of stuff as well U but also knowing that everything's alive yeah uh by the way Hawk's with us now thank you for joining us hey Hawk good to see you best skin routine in I know he's just yeah I I need Hawk skinh all right there isn't any tape Dan that's true of happle as a defensive coordinator in the NFL in the regular season but what do you expect to see from Green Bay on Friday pressure uh Jeff Halley's DNA kind of where he's cut his teeth it was in San Francisco it was in Houston it was at Ohio State obviously Boston College I mean he wants to play Man coverage and he wants to Blitz you and that's kind of contrary to what Green Bay has been defensively many of us have complained about that and so this boats well for Green Bay cuz Philadelphia the the number one thing that was the issue last year specific to their pass game was they could not handle pressure all out pressure man pressure fire zone pressure any form of pressure that forced that offense to have a plan and then execute against what they were going to do versus blitzes they struggled with so I think halfly for me like this a big foreshadowing game for Philly and and for Jaylen Herz and I'm not saying it has to be perfect but I do think they got to answer and Jaylen specifically has to answer I understand we weren't good at this I wasn't good at this I fixed it and at least having signs that there's growth in that spe specific area they will get the show that Friday night yeah I mean Hawk Friday is the first time we get to see Jaylen Herz with Kell Moore as the offensive coordinator how can Kell Moore get the most out of herts in this offense consistency in his game plan like everything Dan talked about is exactly spot on and for Jaylen Herz or any player you go into a game and your apprehension or nerves come in not being prepared they didn't feel confident that they had a game plan last year that had the answers to the test when people sent pressure so for Kell Moore those are some of the questions that I have around him what is his consistency like in his game plan and his strategy that helps fill in the gaps for Jaylen herdz in this offense we know that you can dial up plays for the most talented offense in the NFL which is what the Eagles are they have no deficiencies at any position with your game plan and your consistency in the Run game can you hold on to games late in there and then as you go out there does it feel like you're executing a game plan rather than just calling plays like Dan and I talked about at nauseum a year ago y'all we don't have 10 minutes but what Dan and Hawk just said it's what I was thinking about with the Philadelphia Eagles and when we sat here two years ago and talked about them on their way to the Super Bowl the thing that they did Dan remember is they dictated how defenses would play that I want to see that come back yeah I want to see the RPO Jaylen being a threat with his legs not meaning he has to be a runner but we talked about I I I I I start thinking about the playoff game against San Francisco or of the regular season games when it was the first time we saw Fred Warner and Dre green law play Slow football and not be able to impact the game with their speed like they were able to do I'm hoping that Kelly Moore understands now having Jaylen and saquin Barkley in the back field you can dictate a lot about how defenses are going to attack you and get back to kind of being able to use all of the things that he has at his disposal you brought up halfly and this defense he likes the pressure historically I play for guys that he knows and guys with his type of mentality you slow that pressure down by dictating what they can do with their linebackers and I think that's going to be the most interesting thing Friday when they face off in Brazil yeah it's interesting because defenses certainly knew what to do against him last season he had a 43 qbr against the Blitz in the Eagles final six regular season games last year that ranked 24th in the NFL look at that two hours starting atas on Mondays should we go to Brazil we didn't get invited but maybe next time all right still to come Terrell thugs practiced against Patrick Mahomes during his first Super Bowl season when did he know the chief's quarterback Terrell Suggs won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2003 then W Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 he's one of Just Three Edge rushers ever to win both Awards along with Nick Bosa and Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor the legendary Terrell sugs joining us now we look ahead to Thursday's opener a matchup of two teams you just so happen to win Super Bowls with that's pretty cool I we're so glad to have you here you've got a couple Super Bowl trophies behind you we noticed that you're part of a lot of great defenses Terell uh Baltimore had one last year but they went through so many changes this offseason what needs to happen for them to be a top unit in the league once again to be a top unit in the league man they one you definitely got to get out get after the passer you know it's a Passing League now so you know it it's time for you know those edges to kind of make make make their presence known you know last year they were talking about you know uh roquan and and uh Patrick Queen and you know all the DBS is now it's time I mean they they did good getting after I mean because they lost some pass rushers so it's time for our young guys you know what I mean uh 99 them to get going my brother Sizzle it's so good to see y I knew he was going to start talking about pass rush first by the way it's last year last year AFC Championship I picked Baltimore to win it I thought they were the best team in the NFL and this lightning rod that always consistently revolves around Lamar you were in the Limelight when you were in Baltimore talk about the pressure of being the face of a franchise in Baltimore but also what do you think it's going to take for these guys to get over the hump and him in particular well you know the pressure first and foremost because Baltimore that that's a straight blue colar City and if you don't play well you're gonna hear about it you're gonna hear about it throughout the week and you know it definitely affect us you know I mean um when when the Ravens are winning the crime in in the city goes down you know what I'm saying like it's crazy so it's like to be the face man you know I mean it's it's a tremendous honor but if you don't play well you're going to hear it so they got to continue to play well and as far as you know getting over the hump you know what I mean they they we can't just rely on one or two players it's got to be a team everybody's got to be you know pot committed so to say everybody's got to be a Super Bowl of bus you know what I mean it's like as we clearly learned teams change every year you know I mean you're not gonna have the same team you had the year before you know so when it's your time n kind of when you're the best team you better punch your ticket because championships are G guaranteed you know the the days are long but the years are fast and you know your window of opportunity for winning the Super Bowl it it will rapidly close on you so all every man on that roster it can't just be you know MVP Jackson kind of you know trying to lead the team everybody is kind of like all right put it on themselves to kind of get over the hump hey T sugs in 2011 when when you won the defensive player of the year is there a game that stands out late that season were you secured that Defensive Player of the Year award um well any games against the black and black and yellow are pretty good you know what I mean U I think it was against it was it was against me you had four sacks to end that season so I don't even like the the I mean I remember being like yo we just this guy had four sacks he just one defensive play to year and I I remember I promis we went into the game plan I was like yo are we doing anything for sug specifically they were like no we're just going to try and block them one-on-one I great so this this was the one that didn't go well that's that's crazy I I that's crazy four sacks I don't know man I don't know we was just getting after it you know what I'm saying and I didn't think I was gonna win it I was really just trying to win the Super Bowl man you know that's what we lined up we we when we every time we show up training camp it's like yo this is our year you know but every team thinks that you know what I'm saying I just happen to have a big ear championship team what's up sizor you wern't doing the bar rushing a shade tree he was gonna be standing right there as soon as you came around the bro got I got everything on the resume I got there were a couple fumbles in there too let me move on to a real question now let me move on to a real question you know we got to play the complete game in btim more um real question you played against alltime greats Payton Manning Michael Vic Dynamic um obviously Tom Brady the greatest of all time played with both these guys specific to Patrick did you see in your time in Kansas City this level of greatness from Patrick Mahomes did you expect this yeah yeah the the the guy had it the guy he loves football like when I got to Kansas City I I saw why the two teams clashed CU we were the same locker room you know what I mean it was a bunch of guys who loved football and like Pat he was having so much fun playing football he like even lined up at on Scout teams sometime and just kind of just play you know what I mean like like I I I I saw the greatness and I was like um when I first got there it was asking me um you know Matt J called me he said yo is he really like that and it's hard for me to give you my prop you know for me to give props you know especially to a quarterback and I was like yeah he's really like that like the kid the guy just loves football man and like we were out there you know Chris Jones and myself and and Frank Frank Clark just guys who love to play football man and I can't forget five you know I mean Tyron Matthew the honey badger you know I mean on the back end you know he he had you know kind of a fire kind of just like a them guys from Louisiana special man and like it it was very similar it was very similar like I get I get goosebumps like talking about it like the two teams are very similar man and it was just like I see why we clash with them all the time yeah man uh yeah when you list off even all those names it's like it's pretty obvious why they won Super Bowls okay this is the first year that you will be eligible for the Hall of Fame what's your message to the voters out there h hey man just look at the resume man I got everything on there you know what I mean I got pics on there like I said like I just told swag I got picks I got for fumble I got fumble recoveries I got touchdowns and not to mention know two Super Bowl rings shouldn't hurt you know what I'm saying so um I just like I countdown starts at 6 a big storyline surrounding that game is the status of hold out Hassan reic head coach Robert Salah thinks it would be a bonus if he did play I mean it's like it's like finding change in the couch I guess right but uh no he's he's a special football player and uh and when when he gets here when he eventually gets here uh it's he's he's only going to help us for more on reic we bring back Dan Graziano with our top stories any movement gr on the reic front no not that I know of Laura and if the Jets find some change in the couch they're going to need to hand it over to Hassan reic if they want to get it in get him in the building CU so far they have not been able to come to agreement on a contract they have said they won't really negotiate with him until he shows up he has said he won't show up without a new deal so they've been at a standstill and they're heading into the opener against the 49ers who are getting the kind of news that really makes the Hassan reic news even worse for the Jets Trent Williams the Niners left tackle returning to the team today uh after missing all of training camp on a contract related holdout uh we've been told and and his agent has uh has tweeted uh that they're close enough to a reworked deal that he felt it was okay to report today uh and it seems like he is hoping to be able to play on Monday night obviously he's got a you know make they've got to make sure he's in shape to play but uh from what I was told there is a chance he does play Monday night let's hear from him okay he just addressed the media a moment too take a listen much pretty much done I hadn't signed anything but we had conversations I didn't obviously um I didn't U think that it would get this drawn out but um you know it's a tough business and this was a very uh intricate uh contract I wouldn't call it a dispute but restructure so um it took time to make to get to where both sides feel like we've um it's a win-win I mean it must be very close to being done he said pretty much done he's not standing there if it's not very close we felt like Dan he was more important even than iuk to get done now it feels like we're close to that happening yeah it's interesting because I think the candidness of him saying or at least implying I always expected it to get done you know like when you heard Trent say I kind of knew it was going to happen but then at the same time be like I didn't expect it to take this long so I I guess my biggest question is great as he is what kind of shape is he in you know and can he play in five or six days notice that's what they're going to have to find out we'll keep an eye on that either way again that is a game on Monday Night Football that ends week one let's go back to G with another guy waiting on a deal what's going on in Cincinnati this is a big week obviously for the Jamar Chase situation he was back at practice uh practicing early last week but then he started sitting out again he's looking for a new contract he's got two years left on his rookie contract the Bengals so far have not wanted to give him what he's asking for they seem to prefer to wait till next year which would equate to what CD lamb and Brandon auk and Justin Jefferson all did getting their new deals after year four Chase has only had year three but what we will find out this week is how far he's will will to push it cuz if he doesn't show up at practice tomorrow on Thursday and he doesn't play on Sunday now you're talking about sitting out regular season games and how many of those would he want to sit out in order to make this point and get what he wants at this point they are not close to a contract they have had conversations in recent days but no real progress that I've been told about yeah you know sometimes as we all know that progress can happen very quickly Hawk as a receiver let's focus on like this week at what point of the week would it be difficult for Chase to be ready to go for Sunday uh Tuesday of two weeks ago now look if they get a deal done Friday and we give you that money damn it you got to play but the reality is he is in no better uh position today to be in shape for that game than he was if he showed up last week because it just takes a lot for an NFL receiver to get ready for the game now look Jamar Chase is an incredible Talent he's still going to be Jamar Chase but where it'll Peak it head isn't late in the game it might be the way that he separates maybe he needs a tick of Separation versus the DB that he's not going to be able to get because his body isn't used to running that five plus miles of sprinting that you get during practice to get yourself in shape for an NFL season as a wide receiver of course they have the Patriots week one week two is the one to look out for that's against the Chiefs and you got to think there's pressure maybe even from the Bengals to get a deal done uh thinking about him not being out there all right coming up Caleb Williams makes his debut Sunday against the Titans Marcus is going to addition of this I'll give you a stat for the defense they're facing week one and our guys I'm going to tell you how the quarterbacks can have a successful debut let's start with Caleb Williams he's going to be facing the Titans Tennessee completely overhauled their defense this year trading for lerus sne and Ernest Jones and drafting tackle to Andre sweat in the second round just to name a few overall seven of their 11 projected starters on defense were acquired this off season so Marcus what does Williams need to do in order to have success Sunday against Tennessee yeah one have the ability to handle interior pressure but also find the matchups that mostly are away from lerus sne who never gives anything up in the passing game I think Caleb Williams played with a lot of poise this preseason and that's what has given everyone the excitement we saw the dynamic playmaking ability now things change picture changes and the real dudes are out there for four entire quarters so seeing how he handles that interior pressure from Jeffrey Simmons and also lerus KN back there potentially locking down one of his number one wide receivers Jaden Daniels and the commanders will be facing a bucks defense that was great to close out the season they allowed the second fewest points in the NFL in the final six weeks and ranked in the top eight in both yards per rush and defensive efficiency haulk how can Daniels have success in his debut against the buck Sunday two option is we know Terry mclen is your number one solidify what's going to happen bir of buckes I would imagine Jamal Dean is going to follow him and match him all game and so it'll be vagous for you not only to find this offense to say okay here's my number two receiver but also Zion McCullum he's kind of there unknown in that secondary for Tampa Bay Buccaneers which is very strong with Jordan Whitehead as well as Antoine Whitfield so find your number two exploit that matchup B knck and the Broncos will face Seattle on Sunday now Nick I have to deal with the new Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald his defense of course McDonald obviously in Baltimore as their DC last year like you see on the screen the Ravens defense was among the best in the NFL last season McDonald's Ravens became the first team since the merger in 1970 to lead the NFL in points allowed sacks and takeaways Dan what does Nicks have to do to play well against Seattle on Sunday yeah certainly Shawn Payton's going to have to run the football well but I think two specific things are the screen game and then the play action game mainly because in the screen game you can make sure that you're going to almost guarantee getting completions ball gets out of your quarterback's hands and then you're trying to generate some explosives and then in the play action game there's not a ton of I have to know the coverage you could be a little bit more progression based also you can commit an extra body or two towards that protection we talked about so much last year with Mike McDonald and some of those simulated pressures I think those two specific areas for Shawn pton directly to Bo Knicks help him play better new on NFL live let's get to some news Mike Tomlin says that Isaac Calo is out for the Steelers opener against the Falcons but he's weak to week said he expects him to be back sooner rather than later after getting good news on his PEC injury that's good also running back jayen waren who's been out with a hey I think there's some pressure on Dallas this season the Cowboys made the NFC championship game in the 1995 season which is also the last year they won the Super Bowl they've now made 13 straight listen no on a serious note they they this has to be this has to be a play action based football team against uh obviously the Cleveland Browns one because of the pass rush we know how dominant miles gar is you don't want to get into a straight dropback game with him so between Dalin and Ezekiel Elliott they have to find some semblance of balance even though I know do hates that word but if these guys get a beat on you and figure out or put you in the obvious passing situations it's a recipe for a disaster and then too Jake Ferguson is gonna have to emerge in this offense I know we've spent the whole off season talking about CD lamb and his ability and we know how good he is but there has to be another key weapon for Dak Prescott when when they talk about the passing game and pushing the ball down down field we saw a lot of flashes and really good things from Jake Ferguson he's going to have to continue to build on that and become an integral part of this offense not only blocking in the Run game but pass catching as well yeah I I completely agree Marcus and I think for the the Dallas Cowboys CD lamb obviously we know how important he is and all the things that I said about Jamar Chase being late to the party also apply to CD lamb you know just getting to camp and getting to practice that being said this offense is a systematic offense that their pass game all stems from what CD lamb does it is very precise it is Dink and dunk and it is choose your shots you have to have a certain profile of player and pass catchers for this to work the great part is cidd lamb is perfect for that the best thing that could have happened to the Cowboys or I should say the Silver Lining that cedi lamb brought to them by sitting out was their ability to work Jake Ferguson work uh Brandon Cooks work jayen Tolbert throughout Camp to develop what is necessary outside of CD we know he is a given with his ability and if you watched last year too early too much early on they werei on Michael Gallop once Brandon Cooks got into the offense once Ferguson got a great feel for it they were clicking on all cylinders I actually think their offense takes a leap this year because of that but to your point they have to show up more consistently outside of what CD L brings to the table yeah Dan quick comment I got something else for you but what do you think about what Hawk said I think Cleveland's defense has a massive advantage in this game CD's had the long hold out they're as good playing man coverage as anybody in ball they got four cats on the back end that can play Man coverage they're going to focus a little bit on CD and they also have more than likely the one of best one of the best pass rushers in football going against the rookie you're you're going to get miles Garrett versus gon at left tackle and defensive end so massive Advantage Cleveland in that matchup all right so what's the plan if you're Cleveland on the defensive side how do you try to attack this I mean I think the thing that was great about Cleveland's defense last year was how great they were at man coverage now it started to get loose at the back end cuz teams would run a ton of crossers and I think this whole offseason they're going to prepare for that they're going to make sure that in man coverage it's going to be Denzel Ward more than likely on cidd lamb they can shade towards that area and then trusted some of some of those other guys to handle a brand new cooks or Jaylen tolber I agree Ferguson's going to be great but it here's the thing Marcus you know this if they're going to have to help that rookie left tackle gon versus a player like the miles Garrett or zarius they're not going to get enough people out yeah I didn't hear that last part what you said it then they going to have to what if they have to help gon they're not going to get enough people out to really hurt Cleveland's defense yeah that's why I talked about dvin cook and Zeke bro like I I listen you say those names and you think 10 years ago you're like damn that's the best Back Field in the NFL but there's I don't think this team offensively is going to be able to have success if they don't establish a really healthy dose of play action right like asking Dak to be an athlete and extend plays yeah he can do that but not at the level in in which some of these guys that we know can and you don't want to ask him to do that consistently there has to be an emphasis put on keeping them in manageable down and distances you and Mina talk about it y'all get mad all the time I don't care if it's run on first down or pass on first down do not get in third and long against the Cleveland Browns I don't care if you're Dallas or any other team in the NFL there in lies your problem you
