Minnesota Vikings News Dump (8.28.2024) | 53 Man Roster Set, Cine Gone, FLAVOR TOWN!

[Music] what going on jeromes Happy Wednesday birds are chirping and stuff and it's time for another Vikings news dump so of course uh the main story yesterday is the Vikings and the other 31 squads around the league had to get down to their 53 man roster limits and the Vikings did just that uh there there was some there there's some interesting cut waves interesting keeps uh and we went over this in depth in a video yesterday but uh just buzzing the tower so darnold Mullins hall jiren Hall stays on the 53 only two running backs on the current 53 but of course the Vikings could certainly add uh whether in waivers or in free agency also you know don't sleep on the game day elevations uh if the Vikings have a couple running backs on the practice squad uh six receivers uh Tristan Jackson and Trent sherfield love to see that three tight ends Nick Muse makes it nine offensive lineman Jurgens and Rouse both of the day three draft picks make it defensively uh so keeping six defensive linemen and I love this man jayen Redmond Taki tamman Levi Drake Rodriguez getting it on that's right if you play well you earn your spot it's how it should be man uh Gabriel Murphy as well as Dalton Riser placed on injur injured reserve designated for return uh TJ Hockinson remains on the pup list so all three of them will miss at least the first four games of the year uh five on the edge uh J Hadi Ward as well as Patrick Jones second makes it over guys like Bo RoR Owen Porter as well as Andre Carter the second second osma in over Dallas Gant uh six cornerbacks Dwight mlo udfa out of Arkansas P woo Pig sui nudy makes it that's right man also Caleb Evans and remains and then the Vikings of course yeah let let go louisine 2022 first round pick just sort of is what it is uh but also I think that there could be a little bit churning and burning uh in the secondary uh even though they kept 11 players on the 53 a list of the players that are waved and like we said scene it makes sense uh you I thought that maybe his game against the Browns could have saved him a spot over a guy like Jay Ward but you know the business is the business uh seen just yeah whether be whether it was the injury whether it was a stack safety room whether it was other factors it just didn't work out uh same thing with jquan Roy last year's fifth round pick and so people get too cling too much to draft status where it's like well he was was a fifth round pick so he should have stayed nah n no no no that's why I love Jaylen Redmond UFL Taki tamani udfa Levi Drake Rodriguez seventh round pick they outplayed jqu androy and they deserve spots over him and also I love when um fans on social media talk is about players that were just cut waved at 53 cussers like ah I told you you won't make it and then the next day they're signed to the practice squad and they're like oh didn't mean it uh so there's going to be a number of players that be brought back like you you should have seen pun intended all the ish talk about louisine hey it didn't work out it happens you're never going to bat a thousand and you know part of it's on the player part of it's on coaches part of it's on eval whatever but also ju just wait to Louis resigns with the Vikings practice squad today at 11:00 a.m. hey Lou we take back everything we said about you like 12 hours ago man uh K Ken also let go so Ken had been rb3 throughout training camp uh preseason and you would think that with the new kickoff rules that he would be utilized but I don't know but again all these players could potentially be brought back to the practice squad and with the uh elevation rules they certainly could be involved on game day but you know you know man but also like Bo RoR man come by on baby I I had the entire thing an entire spiel about B NOS but not not so much uh but like we said the two Headliners were lisen and King Ken uh being waved I I do think that maybe Cen had some trade value except teams knew that the Vikings were going to wave them anyway so they could just wait now if he is claimed off the waivers uh that team assumes his rookie contract which includes uh around 5 million in guaranteed base sellers over the next two years I think that's highly unlikely but what's more likely is scen could sign somewhere else where he sees better opportunity and notably maybe the Eagles practice squad or you maybe two or three other their teams now the Vikings even though his salaries of 1.7 I think like 2.5 next year they are fully guaranteed the Vikings will have some offsets um if he signs somewhere else whether it's his base salary or practice squad uh but the Vikings will you clawback some of that cap in 2025 from this year and then 2026 from next year so we're looking forward to that great and with K I don't know like obviously like I I I don't think like he's a true blue every down running back he still struggles in pass protection but he's just so damn explosive man and this seems like a a version of the Cordo situation where they just wanted Cordo to be the perfect know full route tree uh receiver except he was never going to be that he just wasn't man he was just a certified physical athletic freak who every time he touched the ball could score and I I think Ken's a version of that but you know uh then also two receivers make it Jaylen Speedy nailor one of the remnants of the 2022 draft class uh slotted in as wide receiver three uh posted on Instagram stories he's thankful praying Emoji Purple Heart uh as well as trishan Jack so I love trisan Jackson Man uh so Michigan State Syracuse undrafted 2020 uh was with the Rams that year caught caught Kevin OC connell's eye came over during the Spielman regime uh but stuck around because Tristian Jackson I mean like Wes Phillips knew him uh Kevin mcconell knew him it just busted his ass four years up and down practice squad cut waved every which way and now he makes a 53 because he was a star in preseason man also did the damn thing in training camp I love it all glory to God praying Emoji year five on the way Purple Heart Purple Heart it's great it's awesome man uh also so jqu and Roy was wearing number 93 for the Vikings and I I know that there's a clamoring hey retired 93 and hey retire 84 we're running out of numbers man cuz you could re how about this reduce circulation on numbers but the Vikings already have a fistful of numbers retired and you already had multiple players wearing same digits this year so it's almost like we're a college team but so 93 Hollow number John Randall as well as Kevin Williams should be in the Hall of Fame Shamar Stefan should be in the Yukon Hall of Fame uh and then Levi Drake Rodriguez so jqu and Roy War 93 now it's available is it to on the not knows if ldr picks up the nine Trace I don't know man I don't know but so ldr in college War number 53 and 50 uh so he obviously has an affinity for the number that he's got on but is that too much on the nose like the small school AI ANM system Texas guy just coming in all heart and hustle uh John Randall undrafted ldr late seventh round pick is that is that too much it might be it might be like I actually like ldr wearing 50 I think it looks good man uh so there you go also the the the graphs that they put out there are great I mean I don't know who these guys are but they look like Rascal especially in Florida is a scheme he's one of the best free safeties in the game he is rangy he gets after it he can come up and hit and I I also just love his attitude on and off the field he's a breath of fresh air and would like to see him getting taken care of also take care of matelis while you're at it too VI fan page the Vikings have had discussions on an extension with Cameron Bam's representation but no legitimate progress has been made Darren duie wolson uh mentioned outscore North there's mutual interest in keeping B him longterm in Minnesota now now the question is do you try and get something done before the start of the Season you got a week and change um so try and keep the price low try and get ahead of these things or do you wait roll the dice because bidm is in the final year of his rookie contract 2021 a fourth round pick out of Cal so is it a spot where if he blows up do you potentially use a franchise tag it's sort of like Anthony Harris back in the day or then do you just eat it and pay the higher premium when he's a true free agent as opposed to when you're removed I know it's part of the calculation but uh keeping your your young good solid core players at at an affordable price especially when you have the cap space it's the name of the game man also the name guy Fury so so why not well that like this entire offseason has been weird anyways but guy Fier back in town I I feel like he's been in Minneapolis like 17 times for diners Drive-In and Dives but uh mayor guy Fier mayor flavor town I guess which guy doesn't play for the Vikings from love how offensive lineman always stick together F you guys F everyone else that's right no Nick M looks tiny man but also hey so we've said several times that Walter Rouse just looks like an NFL tackle he's got size man I I love it plus he's standing right next to the guy who's going to replace eventually Brian O'Neal darasa and Rouse 2028 baby we'll take it man also hey um if Bradbery just wants to house all four of those pizzas and then get like 14 more and then like roll up week one against the Giants and Dexter Lawrence uh weighing at about 320 we'll take that and hey hey man you don't have Grim Reacher you don't have to worry about lader of movement anymore we're going to run a lot more man and GAP this year less zone so just hey you have the guy across from you engage anchor
