JJ McCarthy: Season-Ending Meniscus Surgery Was a "Kick in the Balls"

[Music] let's going on J rames so Jay Jay McCarthy has been drafted to be the future franchise quarterback of the Vikings he and Kevin mconnell got the father son or older brother younger brother relationship already going on and hopefully they'll be together here in purple uh for the next 10 to 15 years bringing a dozen Dr Barney in the next 10 or 18 in the next 15 math uh and played great in training camp was rising up uh potentially could have challenged Sam darnold for the starting job but guess we'll never know cuz uh allegedly he injured his knee uh against the Raiders and had surgery for a full meniscus repair on his right knee and that was it and just we we Vikings fans we we know this feeling very well now now of course conspiracy wise like was this injury initially at Michigan last year was it exasperated against the the Raiders well we'll never know either way the knee is fully repaired and hey Amor FTI or something like that yeah but now the Vikings ring behind slinging Sam darnold America's QB who probably was going to be the starter for at the beginning of the season anyway but now it's officially his show and also America's quarterback will not have the rookie upstart a nipping at his heels and just every single incompletion is like JJ JJ uh and long story longer McCarthy fed the local media jackal today for the first time since his surgery uh shout out Darren dug wolson Alec Lewis what up what up and also I mean miniscus like you know the graphics make it seem you know kind of minor but I mean especially full repairs with sutures like it's pretty damn legit and he's got the big uh immobilizing brace on also he's he's got a scooter which he's a bad driver he's like Jordan as man but uh you know McCarthy uh you talked oh by the way so as someone who has had a couple of surgeries where um they've given you a couple doctor feelg Goods not saying I'm just saying like JJ J you could throw JJ McCarthy through wood chipper right now and you wouldn't feel it I don't know man but McCarthy talking uh to the media Ben guestling strip JJ McCarthy said he had a medical and U excuse me medial and Radial tear in his miniscus uh it's pretty bad uh he realized it the day after the Raiders game when his knee buckled going down the stairs uh said he was extremely shocked how serious it was probably because he' been dealing with knee soreness uh for a while uh it's tough It's Kind of a kick in the balls but you take everything life throws at you and you find the positive in it and you that's you exactly why JJ McCarthy is talking about a more fatty yeah but I think that he does have the correct mindset and you could say well hey is it tough like McCarthy and Kevin oconnell always being upbeat and Sack and really sweet but I mean certainly Works positive mindset uh will win the day seir so talked about how the knee buckled as well and then not sure when in the game it happened did it happen in the game uh co uh coped cop to accidentally ramming Uh Kevin McConnell's office door with a scooter so again very poor driver with the scooter but hopefully he'll be off of that soon uh and also he is going to be remaining involved in one of the tools is technology uh see for again uh among the tools he'll use to keep his head in practice and game plans virtual virtual reality and a GoPro type camera on Sam darnold's helmet so hey Sam he sees everything it's going to be like Andy's toys from Toy Story seeing everything but the whole thing about is that it will be a way for him to get mental reps in is it perfect no uh ideally you would have uh been able to have him on the practice Feld every day but you know just rolling with the punches making the best of the situation uh so right miniscus terar surgery on August 14th uh placed on season ending injured reserve I know that some people still have questions about that oh could he return no no he's done for the season uh four to six Monon recovery time frame so the six-month long tail would be about mid February uh which would which would be perfectly synced up uh after the Super Bowl because then will be uh back in time for 2025 offseason work uh both offseason workout program as well as ota's mandatory mini camp so he won't miss a beat there which is really important also Kevin McConnell stated that JJ will still be heavily involved not only the whole VR thing but McCarthy will be in the building every single day and uh every single day attending meetings uh quarterback room uh just questioning the beesus out of everything with the coaches breaking down film part of the game plan so yeah he is going to be fully involved and that's why even though the injury obviously sucks but is it something that could have bothered him for the next couple years and is it better to get it fully repaired now yes I mean probably is and also you having America's quarterback under Center and without the pressure of JJ behind him actually I think could do him better but McCarthy like we said he's not down in the dumps he's not crying in the breast milk uh he's going to get better every single day and we'll see the positives in this negative and he'll come back next year even better and stronger and also a little bit more well seasoned uh because of his mental reps and everything that he did this year as a rookie just grinding film uh being part of the game plan learn the offense even more so yes he he will indeed be that quarterback of the future and can't wait man can't wait uh but your thoughts our thoughts uh JJ McCarthy feeds local media
