think everybody was pretty excited you know getting some live football but now I sit here it's Wednesday SE hulks play Saturday I can't wait for this game to finally get here and just be over with with the preseason finally I was going to say for a second there it sounded like you were really excited to watch preseason week three action which I guess we kind of are there there are some battles or some roster bubble candidates out there but I'm with you man I am chopping at the bit for Saturday to come and go and the Seahawks have a week off and then week one of the NFL season comes quickly I need real football done with this uh dress rehearsal nonsense in the preseason and we'll go over the game preview here in just a bit but Smitty this preseason game uh you got a lot of position battles across the board when you talk about competing for not just playing time but just to even get on the roster I think if I were to look at the other pre-season games around the league the Seahawks have actually one of the more intriguing games on Saturday here I I think so I you look at that in the interior offensive line you got the right guard position still being ironed out I mean you have guys who are making big plays at the receiver position who you know might have not made the roster had they not had big performances in the preseason so far you have you know guys like Tyrese Knight coming into his own and you know he could be seeing a little bit more playing time off rip than we initially expected so there's a lot of guys out there on the Seahawks team that are really making an impact and making things difficult for the coaching staff in the front office yeah especially with the injury to Jerome Baker they expect him to be back week one but I mean we'll see it not a great start for Baker here since he's been signed I mean got an injury basically coming in and then you know I guess are you referring to a new injury that a new injury oh my goodness I'm out of the loop yeah yeah and and thing about this too with Jerome Baker so he had two injuries last year with the dolphins and had offseason surgery missed all of offseason activities comes in training camp gets banged up again McDonald says yeah he should be back week one but we'll see you know I mean uh checking in in the chat where you guys are at uh sinestu is that it uh in Spokane got Terren in grade the Seahawks roster this season we're at 90 right now on Tuesday about almost half the team will lose their jobs and we'll be down to 53 what do you think of the Seahawks roster at the moment is no way in hell that Seahawks today could get a thousand comments in a video you guys haven't even come close to that in the last month or so and I said Chase you're wrong and we will prove it right be heard loud and clear all the way in San Francisco in Santa Clara and all that spam 12 and we'll get rolling let's begin with Seahawk's quarterback Gino Smith according to NFL media's Mike gapo he is reporting that the CQB is Seeking a new contract that he wants to get paid and remain a member of the Seattle Seahawks for many years to come CBS Sports laid it out accordingly here's what they said during a recent interview with Puck Sports NFL media's Mike gapo said Smith's Camp has tried to talk about a new deal with the Seahawks but nothing is IM imminent as we sit here today Smith is the number 20 highest paid quarterback in the NFL in terms of average at 25 million so he's looking to cash in again garolo actually brought up the main one by men in an incentive package or creating an Avenue for the player to make more money this year then they can they can negotiate again next off season that possibility feels more likely than Smith securing a new multi-year contract that doubles his current aav I'm personally not expecting the Seahawks to pay Gino Smith right now nor should they pay goo right now let's Let the Season play out and then revisit this possibility next offse I still think Gino has something to prove after two seasons I haven't seen enough that says yes the Seahawks need to pay this guy more and keep him for many years to come let's see how this season goes first you look ahead to next year and the salary cap situation isn't very good for the Seahawks right now they are currently 25.6 million over the cap next year and you think about next season you're going to have your draft picks that you got to pay and then potential free agent signings and uh potentially play paying guys like Gino and others here at this point in time there just simply isn't the money to give a multi-year deal for Gino Smith now here's another possibility though if the Seahawks do decide you know what we don't want to pay Gino in fact we want to move on from him they could caught him next off season and save $25 million which would put them right close to being at the salary cap number once again his current contract right now here's how things shape out for Gino Smith at the moment in 2024 this season he has a base salary of $12.7 million a cap hit of 26.4 a very good situation for Seattle this year in 2025 next year he's going to be paid about 14.8 million with a cap hit of 38 A5 and then 2026 he would be an unrestricted free agent so Gino's already wanting to get paid and he still got two years left on this deal honestly I don't think Gino has any leverage right now to be sitting here and trying to demand a new contract the Seahawks have all all the cards right now and I'm usually a pro player guy but let's be honest here Gino Smith I think he should just be happy to have the contract that he has at the moment I think that he should go out there prove himself played a played a high level this season and he'll get more money than what he would get right now if he can prove it on the football field quarterbacks ain't cheap folks the Seahawks got a good thing going with what they're paying Gino Smith at the moment the highest paid QB in the league is Joe burrow at $55 million Herbert at 52 A5 Lamar at 52 Jaylen Herz at 51 Kyler Murray at 46.1 Deshawn Watson that bums at 46 million Patrick Mahomes the best quarterback at football it's only getting 45 he and cousins are making the same amount Josh Allen at 43 and then Matthew Stafford at 40 million and he's the Super Bowl champion I'm not trying to pay Gino's Super Bowl champion money right now 40 plus million dollars I know that Gino's had a good run the last two years back to back Pro bowls NFL comeback Player of the Year led the league in completion percentage in 2022 but it's just too early to be having this conversation right now the sews they very well might go a different direction this is a Fran franchise that just moved on from the greatest coach in franchise history last year because he went 9 and8 with this guy as his quarterback so that tells me that the Seahawks aren't afraid of making potential changes here that tells me they're not necessarily committed to Gino Smith they need to see more before I pay Gino Smith I need to see that 2022 wasn't a fluke that he can replicate or even improve off what he did in 202 22 I'm not paying Gino that money right now sorry you're going to have to play pay uh play with that money you're making at the moment into discussion what do you guys think should these Seahawks extend Gino right now is now the right time or should they wait I'm open to the possibility of keeping Gino around but not right now we're not having that discussion right now I I'm waiting till next offseason what do you guys think today's video up next let's talk linval Jose Bleacher Report has named the free agent defensive tackle as the top free agent Target for the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2024 season here's Bo for Matt holder of BR with Cameron Young on the pup list the Seahawks could use some depth and nose tackle behind Jonathan henkins just in case young isn't ready to go for the regular season Joseph is probably the best player available at the position at this stage giving the defense a well 10e veteran to turn to henkins if uh he needs a breather or gets injured partially I don't hate this idea it's not something that I would have sat here and said of myself this is something they have to do by any stretch it wouldn't hurt you decide lynval Joseph he's probably looking for about a league of minimum contract and he could step in be a backup to me th this is one where it's not something I feel like I have to do but it doesn't hurt uh by any stretch of the imagination Joseph he's an older guy but he's got a good track record previously with the bills the Eagles char Vikings and Giants he's a Super Bowl champion he was a two-time pro bowler way back uh 2016 and 2017 but he hasn't done much as of late you going to look at the numbers for yourself here 2023 had just one sack 12 tackles one tackle for loss the year prior in eight games played had 20 tackles half a sack no Force fumbles it has been a while since we've seen Joseph play at a high level now with that said you look at the front seven for this Seattle Seahawks team particularly when it comes to the defensive line there was some major question marks over the last few seasons specifically when it came to stopping the run but now what we've seen is that position has turned into a group of strength for this Seahawks team and if you add Joseph to that mix you're not asking him to be the lynval Joseph that was a pro bowler back in the mid 2010s you're asking him to be a rotational piece to give a breather for a guy like Jonathan to come in be a safety net if there's an injury or something I don't see how it can hurt you if you decide you want to bring in linval Joseph what do you guys think should the Seahawks sign his debut this week as he participated in practice on Monday for the very first time here's a look as you can see uh him out there with uh some of the guys there in written very positive to see him out there especially uh we heard all the talk right that he was going to be good to go for week one and we heard his agent Drew rosenhouse say hey if you sign him he's ready to go in practice well here we are fast forward it now and the dream is coming becoming a reality for the Seahawks at this point McDonald saying the follow following on Conor Williams we have a plan for him to ramp up and it's good to see him get a few reps today and hopefully it will get that process growing as we head towards the season all indications all signs point to the Conor Williams is going to be on track to extended now or do you think the seah should wait no of course not I mean how can you be demanding a contract that Stacks up with the top 10 quarterback values in the league coming off the season that you just had I I don't think he is any position to be demanding extra money from a team who's paying him you know quite handsomely relative to the rest of the world right I mean $25 million a year is no you know no stiff when it comes to a paycheck so I'm I'm out on extending Gino right now and especially when you're going to be looking for his replacement over the next couple of Seasons here um you know I I I just don't think 35 36 year old Gino is somebody I want to be paying $40 million on a roster I don't even mind the possibility of potentially him playing out the contract as is sure that's fine but that's part of the reason that makes this situation so good for the Seahawks with Gino is that it is a contract that you can work with yeah exactly I mean it allows you to sign other players it allows you to just be more flexible give the quarterback himself more Talent around him there's no point for me to extend Gino Smith right now waiting till at least next offseason before we have any discussions about that and there's no guarantee that Gino's going to play at a high level this year no guarantee new system who knows it could be be one that doesn't really work for him and with you thanks for joining us before we dive in and tell you all about Boer we want to show some love to Boyer MAF if you want him to have a big season and to be the exactor for the Seattle seah hooks in 2024 like the video who knows he may be watching his family his friends we want to make our voices heard loud and clear that we believe in Boyer that we're rooting him on and we think that he's going to be a badass here in 2024 like the video we'll get started with today's show on this edition of Seattle Seahawks today I'm going to tell you why I believe Boer will be the key to the Seahawk success in 2024 we've seen the Seahawks have invested a lot in this defense and with this new defensive scheme coming off a very strong second year in the NFL I think Boer is going to be in position to be among one of the best Edge rushers in all of football that he's still got one more big step ahead of him Bo was a second round pick in 2022 out of Minnesota last season led the Seahawks in sacks with nine and it was a record setting season for boy MAF as well as he set the franchise record for most consecutive games with a sack with seven straight in 2023 and his numbers greatly improveed from his rookie campaign as a rookie he had three total sacks three tackles for losses and 41 tackles last year his numbers went up in every category 52 tackles nine tackles for loss nine sacks one force fumble and six pass breakups despite setting that s franchise record though of seven straight games with a sack his season came with several Peaks and valleys throughout 2023 although he had that stretch the Seahawks found themselves with somebody that was inconsistent in uh some parts of the Season his numbers according to PFF was really good in pass rush 77.8 his run defense grade was 61.3 the Seahawks are hoping that improves as they put in a greater effort to St the run this year and his overall grade was a 73.9 in 779 overall snaps last season MAF had a really strong second season with the Seahawks I thought he took some tremendous strides last season but I still think there's another step for him to go to reach his full potential and this could be the year for him to do so the key for Boye MAF and we'll let you tell him let you hear from him himself here in just a moment the key for boy MAF is every single down not taking plays off not disappearing but winning every down which has been a big point of emphasis for Mike McDonald with this Seahawks defense here in 20 24 that they want to make every single Play Count Bo had this to say recently on his goals for 2024 there's a lot of things that happened pre- snap that can give you tells and things that you can see beforehand one of the things especially from last year I noticed there were plays that I felt I left on the table and that's going to be the key not leaving those plays on the table to go all out every time and to be aware when those situations arise do believe in boy MAF I'm all Positive the best case scenario for boy MAF this season is he breaks Michael Sinclair's single season sack record with 17 plus sacks that would be a sack every single game obviously when Sinclair broke the record they didn't play 17 games uh but nonetheless it would be a huge accomplishment and that would be the best situation for him it's not impossible it's a high goal but that would be the absolute best case and on top of that it would set him up for a massive payday as he's looking for that extension for many years to come now let's go to the negative side the worst case scenario for boy MAF would be if the Seahawks like draymont Jones more than him which is certainly possible and draymont Jones plays it a high level and kind of kicks Boer to the curve with to the curb with uh uchin and wosu there and he's like the number three or four option when it comes to the edge rusher position and you see his production drop from what it was last year after having a great sophomore season to take steps back which nobody wants by any means and then that would hurt his case to get paid that money that he's looking for in his next contract those are the two wide scenarios more than likely it's not going to be one of these two things but I think that's kind of the the best and worst of what we're looking at for buer now this is where before Mike McDonald comes in the new head coach for the Seattle Seahawks with Mike's previous track record this is the right coach for Bo MAF and this defense Mike McDonald with what he's done working with the likes of Justin Houston and Javan Clowney Kyle vanoi Justin matab some of these very good pass rushers over the years this is the right coach to maximize buyer's potential and get the absolute out of him and credit where credits du to Boyer he has taken the time to really study this defense and they get to know specifically what Mike McDonald is looking to do Bo's got a really good football IQ he's a student of the game and he's made a point to look into specifically what Mike McDon has in mind and what he has in mind for him for his plan for 2024 boy said this on Mike McDonald I see how it's flowing and the essence of it he's really one of those people like X's and O's and he understands it really well he understands football really well and he understands how to utilize people how to move people that's one thing I'm coming to learn I see where it comes from and how it works and you think about this we've talked a lot on this program that this SS defensive scheme that Mike McDonald is doing is very complicated it is primarily a 34 defense but you will see some uh you know 43 as well uh the 3 four primarily 4-3 elements as well mixing matching and all this but the base three4 side of things fits boo MAF perfectly for what the SE hwks want to accomplish here now the sock record question do you think that's possible can Boer break the single season franchise record can he have 17 plus sacks this season loss column obviously that's the big thing on the minds of every player on this Seahawks team is to try to win as many games as you can go as far in the playoffs as you can that's the number one goal we're not overshadowing that but when it comes to Boyer specifically there's no reason I think that he shouldn't be a pro Bower in 2024 that's realistically the next step for him is all those numbers go up and he's in that conversation where he's getting a free trip to Hawaii or Vegas or wherever they're playing that Pro Bowl that flag football game that he's a part of and boy to his credit I like what I've heard from him in this off season he's got some high standards he's got some high goals that he has for himself what he has in mind for this upcoming season and Beyond boy said this to me I expect myself whenever there's a chance to make a play it should be my Play It's not to say that in a selfish way obviously there's situations and things happen but I hold myself to a high standard my whole life I've done that my family holds me to a high standard everyone around me understands that and they just know that's what I expect of myself and also expect that of other people around me and it was interesting listen to boy talk about that one of the things that he mentioned was playing under PJ Fleck at Minnesota PJ he's one of my favorite coaches in college football and PJ has always been a motivator in getting the most out of his guys and pushing his players to reach above and beyond and that was one thing boy talked about was that he learned from PJ Fleck was go go Skyhigh to push yourself to the very limit to accomplish things you didn't think you could accomplish and he's taking on that same mentality here with the Seattle Seahawks the folks at fantasy pros put together this stat projection for Boyer MAF and I think they're selling him short a bit they are projecting that he'll have 41 tackles 7.7 sacks uh he'll get a fumble recovery probably not going to get an interception this season but I got to tell you I I think it's going to be much much better than that that he is being undersold of what he could potentially do I think it's going to be a big year what is your C level at boy MAF I'm all in I think he can have a big season scale of formul 1 through 10 I got to go with about an 8.5 is my confidence level in boy I think he's going to be one of the best let's begin with Sam Hal this is Sam how's moment here folks as we're looking at a big chance for Sam how to really show what he's made of he's played pretty good in these first two preseason games and all the attention at the quarterback spot is going to be on him we know Gino's the starter we know PJ Walker's going to the practice squad this is all about him showing up in sh out and his first time playing at lenfield as a member of the Seattle seah hooks this is a really unique opportunity for him to show what he's made of be embraced by the twelves and have his moment show that he can be trusted if God forbid something happens to Gino Smith whether he's injured or if he struggles that he's ready to answer that call there at Luman field his num so far this preseason a completion percentage near 66% 283 yards two touchdowns the offense has moved pretty smooth with him under Center and he's also done uh a good job with his legs uh moving around and extending plays in that front he's impressed as head coach Mike McDonald had this to say when it comes to Sam how uh after the second preseason game against Tennessee I thought Sam was really sharp I thought we moved the ball I thought he made smart decisions just keep it up don't have to go crazy I don't need him throwing for 400 yards and four touchdowns I I just need to show that he's confident has commanded the offense going to depend on Big Time in pass coverage situations this season I need to be confident in a guy like tyres snight that he can go out there and fill that role as well yeah I think so I think that's a good one who's a name that comes to mind folks um that you want to see have a big night that you're watching for on Saturday night paying attention to that to that Right Guard battle again as well um want to see a little more from uh from both Bradford and Haynes they both have looked pretty solid yeah Bradford a little bit better sounds like he's got the inside track to get the job but uh Witherspoon to really play more in the nickel and be able to move around a lot more on the defense if you added another Elite outside corner like Hunter and he's a threat when it comes to special teams coverage too which would be great I would love to have Travis Hunter on this team uh he he could get his fix with the ball in his hands on kickoffs and punts and uh I believe the field Yates mock draft had the seah Yorks picking 11 I hope we're not picking that high I hope we're not either no that would be a bad sign but I would love to have Travis Hunter on this team too so we shall see that they have their franchise quarterback behind Gino Smith and that they can you know enjoy that cheap contract in his youth remember he's younger than some of these rookie quarterbacks like Bo Nicks and Michael penx that'd be nice but in reality I think he's just the Seahawks number two QB and that's fine that's fine with me I think he's more than capable as the number two QB I don't think he's beating out Gino anytime soon I don't think he's getting replaced by PJ Walker either I think he's just your number two quarterback and that's fine the bread maker writes in if we get a late first in no QB what do we get so I was looking at a mock draft that came out this week from ESPN and field Yates was projecting the seaha taking Travis Hunter the wide receiver SLC corner from Colorado more than likely going to play just the corner position of the NFL also could play some special teams but they had the Seahawks picking at 11 I hope Seattle's not picking at 11 but I would love to see Travis hunter in Seattle that would certainly be fun uh I think we all have our eyes set on getting a quarterback next year but for now I think guys like Travis Hunter are certainly going to be on the radar next year we'll see sad Sherman writes in any chance the SE Yorks trade for Hassan reik so Hassan reck first off would thrive in this seah hooks defense under Mike McDonald he is the best coach in the NFL when it comes to coaching up pass rushers as son reic would be great but there's a couple reasons why I say no when it comes to Assan reic one I think there's some character concerns the Eagles were quick to move on from him now you got the situation with the Jets where he hasn't even spoken to them they're not close to getting a deal done that's not looking good and it's more than just the contract situation there folks to me there's some there are some red flags on that front and then the Cs would not only have to give up Capital but they'd have to pay him as well they don't have much flexibility when it comes to the cap you look at next year they're 25 million over the cap right now I think Assan reic would be great and he he'd be awesome to have don't get me wrong but I I just don't see the Optics playing out with him ending up in Seattle I'd take him a heartbeat I'd give up a third round pick just like that if we're up to me but I think there's too many McDonald hiding his true defense you think Dan you're actually on to something there let me explain a little further listen closely folks Mike McDonald and this SE looks defense and you can even say for the offense too they're not really showing much in this preseason it's fairy vanilla what we're seeing Mike McDonald folks didn't even call the defense in the game against the Titans this past week he passed that off to one of his assistant coaches because he wanted to get more perspective of what was going on and I don't think that was a bad idea at all now when the regular season starts Mike McDonald's going to be calling the defense but with that said they're not going to show a whole lot they're going to run things very vanilla and let their guys kind of get a feel for things try to separate the competition and then go from there and that's perfectly fine and the defense has still looked really good despite running a very vanilla defense the last couple weeks so yes Dan you were totally on to something you got a great football IQ my friend they are not showing much but when they unleash when they fully unravel prepare to be amazed Tommy spanks wres in could they see look trade for Kyle pittz man Tommy I would take Kyle Pitts in a heartbeat and especially you look at this tight end room right now you got Noah a Fant there he's already been a little bit banged up phell Brown's banged up right now he's likely to miss the start of the season for the Seahawks that ain't good KY pittz would be awesome and he would be a great long-term plan I don't know if NOA Fant is within the long-term plans I think he's kind of in a prove ite situ situation this year with seah hooks but Kyle Pitts like Arthur Smith was very incompetent I felt in running that offense in Atlanta he didn't use Kyle pittz enough he didn't use bejan Robinson enough I think Kyle Pitts every season if he's used properly could be a thousand yard tight end he's that good I think he can be a top five tight end in this league if he isn't already and we've heard that this uh Seahawks coaching staff that Ryan grub plans to use that tight end position way more than we saw in the previous regime I don't think it would happen but if he ever is on the market if things don't work out for Atlanta then uh I'm all ears to Bringing Kyle Pitts in should the SE look trade for Kyle Pitts why for yes INF better year the dline or the secondary great question Ryan uh I like both units I do I think I lean towards the secondary because you have more Pro Bowl potential right you look at the defensive line Leonard Williams could be a pro bowler but that's really about it jiren Reed's not going to be I really doubt Byron Murphy's going to be in his first year um so I don't see that happening but you look at like Pro Bowl caliber players on the secondary Julian love I think Sean Jenkins could I think Devon Witherspoon could I think Rick Wen could so I'm more high in the secondary than am the dline but don't get me wrong don't get me mistaken I still like that dline too last question Ian wants to know is Jerick Reed II going to make the team at safety he is on the pup list I mean they'll start on the pup list and then we'll have a discussion when he gets healthy whether he gets activated for the 53 man roster or not but at the very least yes technically he will make the team on the pp list and going to need a new Arena I'm very curious Caleb says I grew up on the on the Blazers that's a fun fan base too yeah Blazers have had some fun times never uh reaching the mountain top since um back in the Bill Walton days but they've had some exciting Talent uh Dam Lillard LaMarcus Aldridge for a while there Brandon Roy for a too short of a period of time obviously Clyde back in the 90s with guys like Cliff Robinson and Jerome kiry and Terry Porter I'm just getting in my bag right now but uh yeah so some interesting comments Gino says they would need a new Arena that climate pledge arena is Tiny okay Ian says I don't think it's good enough to host an NBA team longterm they would need a new one to pull it off so maybe they start a climate pledge Arena and then build another Arena I'm all over the map Tyler you are so I I root for the Seahawks Seahawks obviously um I love a certain basketball team that won't be named um Seattle Super Sonics yeah Sonics that's it yeah um baseball baseball I'm a kity Royals fan okay and uh hockey I'm a Dallas Stars fan okay Dallas star shout out to them I went to a playoff game with the Dallas Stars this year it's pretty cool oh yeah electric environment atmosphere when I moved to Dallas I adopted the stores I didn't have an NHL team and they were they were easy to adopt um yeah been good and then uh and the NASCAR Ro for Ryan bla Washington and Oregon fans they don't mix so like these were big- time Rivals back in the day and now you got to for the one now that think about this too like dating it back to now so in college football Washington State got left out of the power four and Washington's in the power four so Washington State isn't really relevant on the national scene in college football anymore sorry not not trying to offend anybody just being real with y'all are Washington State fans now going to be start cheering for Washington I don't think so like who would be your power four team that you root for if
