today from High Mark stadium in Orchard Park New York this is the NFL on EA Sports it's the Buffalo Bills taking on the Carolina [Applause] Panthers from the home of the bills since 1973 we are at High Mark Stadium just south of downtown Buffalo Brandon gard and Charles Davis on hand kickoff just moments away Charles quickly keys to the game for me it's coaching who prepared his team the best going into this one to give them the confidence to believe that they would win the game that's who's going to come out of this one on top and we are underway in Buffalo and here comes a return from just beyond the goal line and he'll be stopped up at the 25 out comes the offense for the bills led by their quarterback at 6'5 that's Josh Allen and in this league there are many quarterbacks who have their most success running the ball while there are others who have big arms there aren't too many guys who can do both and at the end of many games this guy leads his team not just in passing but in rushing as well [Applause] [Music] Allen going to look to throw on the first play that's caught by his tight end Dawson Knox and he's taken down but able to slip across the 35 that's a pick up of 11 and a first down on their first offensive play love this look to start the ball game they empty the back field right away and that's going to put some early stress on both their offensive line and on the secondary and here they get the completion in a quick first down he's got his man that's the rookie from Florida State and he'll be taken down but not before he gets into enemy territory 15 yds that time and a buffalo first and you hear all the time that he's really a power forward who plays Above the Rim and he does have a basketball background but I think the bills got a receiver to match their environment as well big strong physical can go across the middle and catch the football so from Panther territory now it's first and 10 at the 49 yd line Allen and he is tackled inside the 40 not quite to the 35 a Nifty bit of scrambling there 12 yards first down that's the first time he's called his own number but he's got to be overjoyed with the result he wasn't just going to settle for a modest gain to me he was determined to come through with a big message to a defense that slept on him in the [Music] pocket so from the 36 now first and 10 they run for the first time with James Cook on the the stop that time it was Josie juwel a quick burst there and he nicely bit off a pretty decent [Music] [Music] gain from the 31 here's second down at five quick throw caught out wide by Valdez scantling no gain on the play and it brings up third and five now if you're a wide receiver and they call a screen pass you're counting on some people being out in front of you blocking but that play was well diagnosed by the guys on the defensive side of the ball and they got there and swarmed and finished off the play they'll need five on this play to move the sticks here's Allen and he gets the first down here as he's taken down at the 24 give him seven on the tuck and run and it'll get him a new set of downs he's a talented Runner and that means he's always looking for bigger and bigger gains when he takes off certainly found some bonus yards there beyond the first down marker and this early Drive will continue with that extra jolt from his legs [Applause] less than a minute to go here in a scoreless first quarter to this point on first down Allen little pitch and catch to the tight end Knox the result only four yds there on the play and that will bring up second down but yet another completion here on this opening drive and he's now perfect four of four to start pretty solid execution here and how about how everyone's handled their nerves because you know what it's like to start a ball game you're so amped up and ready to go that sometimes the execution isn't there they've been Flawless so far well drilled well prepared and excited to start this game he'll get forward for three down to the 16 yd line not a big run not an explosive run but they've held the ball for plenty of plays on this drive they're just trying to impose their will on the defense right now [Music] [Applause] no score after one on EA Sports second quarter now in Buffalo it's the bills in control to the football as they've got it with a third down coming up [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] coming up here looking for three yards to pick up the [Applause] first Allen going to try and throw on third down pass taken in by his big tight end and he is going to have a Bills first down it's a gain of six that time on Third and two and the pockets been protected pretty good here so far in the opening drive we always talk about confidence in Runners and catchers and quarterbacks how about the protection detail they're not allowing anyone near the guy throwing the [Applause] [Applause] football so not quite a first and goal it's first and 10 from the 10 4 4 now Allen going right back to Knox and again a completion that's good the completion there for seven yards and that'll bring up second down nice Rhythm fill there on first down he located his tight end made a nice easy pitch and catch hoping he can break a tackle or two wasn't able to do that there but still good yardage three yards to go on second down and they've got three tight ends out there jumbo set back to the ground cook and this is not going to do it as he stopped at the 2yd line he got maybe a half yard at most but officially they'll be left with a third and two a free safety roaming all the way up to the line of scrimmage to make that stop how about his ability to trust his eyes and figure out it was not a pass play and go fast towards the line of scrimmage in order to make that tackle now on Third and two they're going to elect to throw with Allen buying time to his and he is into the end zone for a buffalo touchdown Josh Allen taking it in from two yds out and the bills post the first points of the ball game as they take the lead here in this second quarter well that drive felt like it took up an eternity we finally have some action on the scoreboard yeah but plenty of action prior too because that drive took up all the first quarter before we spilled into the second and finally points were registered on the other sideline they're chopping at the bid just to get the football Tyler bass on for the extra point [Applause] attempt and it's seven nothing Buffalo that one in the books as a 12pl drive and it was Josh Allen using his legs to polish things off w [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] after the touchdown bass to kick it away now Raheem black here going to take this one out and the decision to bring it out kind of a costly one as he won't make it back to the 20 the Panthers head out for their initial drive and at the helm as their second-year quarterback now the number one overall pick from 2023 Bryce Young and his task in this situation is making sure this team knows that there's a sense of urgency yet somehow still stays calm because your natural impulse your first possession is not until the second quarter is you got to attack right away throw something big at them right away yeah you got to move the ball but maybe be a little bit careful in doing [Music] so three tight ends in the ball game here on First and 10 now Young that ball caught by the former Toledo rocket Deontay Johnson and he's tackled at the 38 but they doubled their yardage the play started at the 19 and they gained 19 firstan [Applause] two minutes on the clock second quarter seven nothing ball [Applause] game so here's a first and 10 at the 38 a play fake now young he's got his tight end it's Tommy Trimble and they're going to get this up to Midfield a good gain again that's now 31 yds combined on those last two plays when this offense can get their tight ends involved they can move the football here a nice route able to look it in and picks up the first down first down now but that clock rolling young now from the 50 over the middle it's complete and he is tackled inside the 40 not quite to the 35 15 more there and they're on a roll it's another first down my goodness they've come out locked in on this drive play calling execution they are fully in sync three straight passes three first downs they're moving the ball downfield almost at will this defense really struggling to find answers okay right it'll be young again going to throw right side here complete and he's going to get this down near the 20 yd line now the Panthers going to use the first of their timeouts as they'll stop it with just over a minute to go before [Applause] halftime let's go now black 40 young looks to throw on first down and they're going to get him he's sacked back around the 28 the Panthers going to use the second of their timeouts as the stoppage will come with a little under a minute to go in this first half [Music] don't need it all back at once but you figure they're going to need something here 17 yds to go on second down young now here's Johnson with a reception and he gets it inside the 10 to the nine that puts him in excellent position first and goal after a gain of 19 this has been a nice answer to the touchdown drive against him a few minutes ago because they've come out and reestablished the tempo a nice throw there and they're putting together a very strong Drive as a [Applause] [Applause] response a chance now to get even before the break as they come up first and goal young will set to throw to the end zone but it's incomplete chance good he's going to be a very busy guy two catches already in this opening drive and they were looking his way for a third I think they put this defense on notice that that could be a really really frequent [Applause] combination another shot from the nine on second and goal to throw young and down he goes pressure gets him back at the 14 Von Miller he was the one getting in there able to wreak his usual half Havoc now the Panthers going to signal for their third and final timeout as they stop it with 16 seconds to go in half number [Music] one we and now because of the sack it's third and goal from the 14 all right go we again looking to throw young looking left side and he's got a in that's Brooks oh he's going to be brought down short of the first and they are out of timeouts Nifty running there but it'll come on what should be the final play of half number one so we have reached halftime with a touchdown that's the difference on the scoreboard as we'll head down to Orlando that's right we find our man Jonathan Coachman at our EA Sports halime report coach okay Brandon thanks very much back to you guys in a bit but first we welcome everyone to our EA Sports halftime report the bills were LED in the first half by their allor quarterback Josh Allen his touchdown run was the Lone score of those first two quarters as his guys hold a seven to nothing lead okay Coach thanks as always this one still anyone's game as we welcome you back for quarter number three [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] just the one touchdown of that first half 7 nothing our score as we get going in quarter number three from a couple yards deep he'll bring it out of the end zone and his guys will get the football right at the 20 yd [Applause] line the Panthers coming back out onto the field for their second drive and they're still very much in this game although they do Trail what's the game plan Charles for the second half it might be a little counterintuitive because most people will think losing equals passing the ball more but I'd established the running game they kind of went away from it in the first half I think if they get Back in Balance it'll help them when they put the ball back in the [Applause] air first and 10 Young there's tremble the tight end and he's got it past the 30 before he's hit and dropped give him 13 yds on the opening play of the drive and also give him a first down and that's the kind of play this offense needs to maybe kick them into gear a little bit they've been stuck in neutral much of the game perhaps that can give him a little bit of confidence that big plays are out there a First Carry for the Canadian born chuba hubard takes it to about the 37 I feel like I could see what he was thinking on that carry wanted to follow that big tackle through the hole ended up getting four yards on the carry I think he had designs on that one being bigger from the 37 they work on second and six young to throw it that caught by tremble and they're going to have this across Midfield and inside the 45 that good for 21 yds on the catch and run for many teams the evaluation of tight ends has really changed we used to wonder about how they would block first and foremost now we want to know how these guys can run cuz we envision them in offenses catch the ball how much yardage can they gain after that and that on display there for a good pickup still in search of their first touchdown of the game but they're on the Move first and 10 a give up the middle Hub and he Maneuvers up the middle for three and it's second down not a huge carry there on first down but not all of them will be but still all in all a positive play for the offense it's all about picking up at least a few to set up what you're going to do here on second down second and [Applause] seven now a hand off up the middle it's Brooks and a very determined run there as he'll take this all the way down to the 27 good effort 13 yds first down Panthers part if you want more carries I think we saw how you get him showed that he's got the fresh legs and he picked up the first down on that run don't just ask for him show them that you're supposed to get the football and they'll run on first down with Hub and he's going to take this ahead for right around three yard yards but no more than that second down yeah I don't know if it's exactly a win-win but if you're on offense you'll take that kind of a run all right it was kind of stacked up found a little bit of yardage and frankly they're pretty close to staying on schedule on offense The Playbook is still open for the [Applause] coordinator ready up from the 24 now here's second down at seven now young over the middle and it's incomplete at this point in the game and the situation they're in partner these incompletions that we're seeing they need to turn into positive snaps and [Music] soon this will be the eighth play of the drive it's third and seven young short throw hauled in by Trimble so give him two yards there on the completion and that'll bring up fourth down partner took a while for him to lock onto a receiver and he finally found his man coming left to right across the formation but by the time he got the ball to him not much of a chance to turn up field and make anything out of it so young will head to the sideline and on is Pino for the Panther field goal from the right hash it's a 38 yd attempt the kick by Pino is good and they are on the board but still trailing it's seven to three so they were facing the deficit coming out of the locker room at intermission and at least they're able to get the field goal to cut into that deficit yeah and now your offense feels pretty good about itself right a little bit more up to speed coming out of the break he turned to your defense now and say hey we got three there we're chipping into the lead can you help us out hold them let's get the ball back for [Applause] us after the field goal on to kick it away it's Pino and no saw to bring this one out he'll go down to a knee and they'll begin the drive at the 30 so here come the bills out for their second Drive their defense has done the job now it's the offense's turn as they've got it first and 10 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] from the gun it's Allen and his throw is going to be incomplete had an open man that time but end up putting a little too much heat on it don't you think partner absolutely just needed a touch more air under it instead he fired an absolute [Applause] bullet third quarter of a tight football game as we come up on a second and 10 to the air Allen little pitch and catch to the tight end Knox he's going to be dropped following a pick up of seven pass the 30 to the 32 let's not quibble about the gain there on second down that was a positive play because that was a take what you can guess situation got out to the tight end now it gives him much better opportunity to convert on third down [Applause] and they're not going to get to the line to run another play so we will switch ends as the third quarter has come to a close we'll return with more after this this is the NFL and it's on EA [Music] Sports as big of a play as we've had in this one so far this is third and three they'll run it here's cook and brought down but not before reaching the 45 yd line it's a gain of 13 and a buffalo first down well they didn't accomplish their goal they didn't get a stop there gave up another first down they have all three timeouts in their pocket I think defensively you got to start thinking about using them here I was just going to ask you at what point you think now's is the go time I think now's the go time I don't think you sit back and wait because they can take a lot of time off the clock between plays and run three to four and really put you in a stressful [Applause] [Music] spot they run again on first down cook and he'll be brought down at the 50 after a gain of about five well at this stage that's exactly what you want offensively good run on first down stay bounds keep that clock rolling and look at that play chart that the play caller has in his hands right now that's what you got to focus in on because that's divided up by sections and right now he's looking at that four-minute offense section what running plays do we have to bleed down the clock and take care of the football right now they're executing really well clock continuing to run they'll probably wind this all the way before snapping it on second down they run it again with cook and this carry not is productive he swallowed up at the line of scrimmage they'll say no gain on the play there and now it'll be third down now obviously that's some good work there defensively being able to stop them and bring it up a key third down but if you're on the offensive side of the ball There's an opportunity because I know what defensive guys are thinking right now just stop them get to the ball that means they might not be sound defensively there could be some opportunities and you you said key third down highlight that word put it in bold here we go the bills on third down a perfect four for four thus far this will be third and [Music] five from Midfield here's Allen he's got his Target that's complete and they'll get this to the 30 yd line before crossing over out of bounds an ex teammate used to tell me all the time I hate experienced quarterbacks because no matter what you really can't hide what you're doing and I think that right there he knew right away where the blitz was coming from where his primary guy was going to be and he ended up going to a secondary Target for a nice game I was just going to ask you that wasn't the primary target and he's so good at that isn't he I think he knew right away that he wasn't going to get to his primary guy I think he read that as soon as he got to the line of scrimmage knew where the pressure was going to come from and said ah I know how to beat that and that's what he did working the middle here that's complete to Knox the tight end so it's Bill's football here as we get you reset they've got a second down now as they search for a way to get this one to the finish line and ideal down in distance to try to finish this thing off second and inches we now the former terpin this is Ty Johnson and quickly we're going to get another stop here with 154 left as they call the timeout [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] defensively not totally Home Free yet but it's looking good as they come up first and 10 back to the ground this time cook and now they're inside the 10 as he's brought down at the nine the Panthers going to use the second of their timeouts as they'll head to the sideline and talk over what to do [Music] next so they come up on second down down if they can get another run like we just saw would likely put an end to this thing he's going to get it again just looking to get forward and protect the ball and cook will get in for a bills touchdown a 9yd touchdown run and the bills are able to build on to their fourth quarter lead and that right there is the definition of a statement Drive you're in the fourth quarter trying to get to the finish line and here they were able to hold the ball for a long time and move it down the field and how about them finishing it off with the touchdown run winning football 101 check that box extra point by bass up and good and that pushes the lead up to 11 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey after the touchdown bass to kick it away I couldn't take the chance this will be returned from the goal line and they will Wrangle him down a couple yards shy of the 30 so now Young and the Panthers down by 11 just over a minute 40 to play it's been a struggle to score all day and now they need to do it twice here late to have a [Music] [Applause] chance 22 young able to find th decent start to the drive there of course they need the touchdown two-point conversion and a field goal yeah those guys are into it how about the guys on the sidelines you see the coaches signaling all the Personnel groups up on the sideline ready to go in and out of the game they've got to condense their time now in order to try and get back into it now second down and a few inches young to throw and his throw here is incomplete well they've certainly had trouble while blocking this defense through three and a half quarters so I don't expect it to get any easier now you know they're going to be sitting back and waiting on everything and they force an incompletion [Applause] there this crowd trying to force a false start here third and inches now young work in the middle of the field and he's got a man complete and he is going to have a Panthers first down as they're able to get the third down conversion and this is was a nice example of an offensive coordinator scheming his guy open just a little underneath route just trying to free up some space and it worked awfully well got him not just space but plenty of room to run after the catch to pick up really nice yardage short throw hauled in by Trimble and he's going to get this inside the 30 of course remember you need a touchdown here and a field goal doesn't matter the order but they have to get it done and get it done fast pther down this is first and 10 here's young short throw hauled in by tremble and inside the 20 before he's brought down now the Panthers going to signal for their third and final timeout as the clock will stop with 18 seconds remaining here's first down from the shotgun it's young steps away to his left BRS up and so it's a victory here for the Buffalo Bills and you look back over the score sheet interesting a very clean game no turnovers by either side an absolute Rarity when we watch games now because defenses have put such an emphasis on taking the ball away well what we saw here was offense is spending their time saying look you know they're coming for it ball security is Paramount so they worked on that not just a week of practice but I'm sure all during training camp make sure when you have it tuck get away because danger lurks everywhere you
