First & 10: Central Ohio football scores | Week 1 of playoffs

You know, there's nothing like the playoffs when it comes to high school football. It's all about surviving and moving on to the next round. Hello, everyone. I'm Dom Tiberi. Welcome to 1st and 10 and I'm Adam King, 448 teams across O Ohio still have that dream of winning it all. But in just 38 days, we'll cut that down to seven, eight champions do starting tonight with our game of the week. Yeah, we're talking about the five and five Wildcats and Hier Davidson hosting the five and five Greyhounds of Grove City Davidson, a 10 game winning streak on the line versus the dogs including a 48 24 win in week two. But that was then and this is now. Yeah, this is the 80th all time meeting between these two schools and Davidson going to strike first. Andrew Lewis connecting here on the field goal and the Wildcats led three to nothing from there though Grove City takes over the Greyhounds on the move. Quarterback Max P is under pressure, scrambles somehow avoids the rush and sees and steal all alone in the end zone for the 30 yard touchdown. Dogs led 73 2nd quarter, Grove City back out to check out the running there by Ko Snyder lowers. The boom on the defender finally gets knocked out at the six yard line and then on the very next play, JJ King takes it in for the touchdown. Dogs led 14 3. Grove City goes on to earn their first playoff victory in 18 years as they beat Davidson 38 22. Upper Arlington, one of the hottest teams heading into the playoffs in Central Ohio facing off with Thomas Worthington and Halloween season is among us, wouldn't wanna be standing behind that guy. I have to warn you this play. It takes a while but it's worth it. Thomas Worthington lets it fly. Jake Braun gonna feel it like a punt and he's headed the other way. His teammates kept telling him go down in the end zone, go down but braun doesn't just want a highlight play. He wants maybe the play of the night, puts the blinker down, pass it on the right, cuts it back to the left 100 yards and 30 seconds later, he is in for six U A up big in this one but far from done, Jake Uber with the ball and Uber is about to eat. He goes 30 yards to the house. I believe they call this a statement win. Upper Arlington 46 to 3. They're calling it a new north in Westerville but Stanley Jackson and his team don't want the history to stop with making the playoffs. They're ready to make some noise. I bananas crowns and Power Rangers. Oh, my few better ways to start a highlight than this. Flashback to Boise State. The hook and ladder Jackson Burke perfectly tosses to gunner Richards. Coach gets some extra credit with that call game tied up 21. All that is until Cole Dickerson takes four Warriors with him on the way into the end zone. A back and forth night the whole way now tied up two seconds left North with a 23 yard field goal and John Link, there is no missing link in Westerville. He makes it and North gets their first playoff win since 1988 31 to 28. All right. All right. Next up, we head to Northland High School but no nine and one. Vikings hosting the five and five Eagles of Big Walnut pick this one up in the first quarter and the Big Walnut, they're gonna jump out. Jake near goes to Nate Sever for the y short touchdown. Uh, and the Eagles led seven to nothing and Big Walnut is gonna keep it going. The song will remain the same again. It is Jake near to Nate severs another short touchdown to try for two was good. Eagles led a 16 to nothing. Northland comes back though, Alex Nef goes to Maha Bs for the touchdown and the lead was cut to 16 to 7 but Big Walnut goes on to win 43 to 14. Next up we have Independence hosting the Warriors of Watkins Memorial. The game being played at for Centric high school and the Sixers five and five on the year Watkins memorial seven and three. Nice job by the warrior band member right here. Yes. Getting down on it. All right. Fourth quarter. Independence up 86. But Watkins comes back, Drew Sampsell goes to Gerald Banks and watches as he takes off and he's gone for the touchdown. The extra point was no good Warriors led 12 to 8 and Watkins gonna keep it going and it worked once. Why not again? Samsell goes back to Gerald Banks. Nice cuts coming at you. Nice cut again and he's into the end zone again. The extra point, uh, was no good, but that would be it. Watkins Memorial goes on to win 18 to 8 central, not the regular season they hoped for, but still earning a five seed tonight. Facing off with New Albany. The first score of this game belongs to Aaron. He, he gets the touchdown here. That's only four yards but this next play a little longer. Rocco Williams lets it fly to Terence Alexander. All he needs is his fingertips looks back, but he's home free central gonna have to start paying rent with how many times they found the end zone tonight? Anthony Madison like DJ K just another one another one. We've got time for one more here and it's Braylin Williams. He is headed for six and central is headed to the next round. The Tigers grab the win 42 to 16 over New Albany. So that takes care of our first six games, but we're far from done. Yeah, we have to take a break, but when we come back, we have highlights from four more playoff games and don't forget the best part of the night coming up in just a little bit. Yeah, next up a big one in Hilliard with the Panthers of Darby hosting the Cruisers of Groveport, Groveport and, uh, Derby. That's a big deal. Darby coming into the game with a five and five record, Groveport six and four on the year. Yeah. Beautiful job there by the Darby Band fourth quarter game tied at seven and the Cruisers taking the lead freshman kicker, Christian Gutierrez. Sanchez splits the upright. Groveport A L 10 7. Darby comes back to Cole Crockett with the field goal attempt from 47 yards out. He clears it easily. We're tied at 10 now just a minute to go in the game and Darby a little razzle dazzle. They even fake out the cameraman on the reverse and Cole Harbaugh off to the races, takes it 50 yards for the touchdown. The game winner as Hilliard Darby win 17 to 10 next up. We head to O and Tangy High School the nine and one Braves hosting the three and seven Celtics of Dublin Jerome pick this one up in the first quarter and O and Tangy jumping out, check out Riley Clarkson in for the touchdown. Braves led seven to nothing still in the first and the Braves want more. Ethan GRN Meer goes to Gavin Grover and, uh, he's off and running, pick up a 30 yards that'll set up the touchdown in the second quarter. TJ Harrison takes it in and the Braves led 14 to nothing one more here in the second quarter, Ethan Grunky going to air it out to Sam and H 65 yards for the touchdown all in. Tangy rolls 44 to 13. Pickerington North didn't in the regular season how they wanted but good news for them. That doesn't matter because it's a whole new season starting tonight. A little hang on Sloopy and pick North wishes. Zack Wilson wouldn't hang on to this pick Westerville Central with the turnover, but they can't do anything with it. So North now on the goal line and it is the man double deuces the score, Michael Taylor puts Pickerington North up 28 to nothing and tonight it belongs to the Panthers defense, the 28 is pretty but North gets the goose egg. Ryan Miller sealing it with the interception. The defense, the shot out in the Panthers are moving on winning 28 to nothing. Our final game is 16 seeded South versus one seeded Bishop Waterson. Rule of thumb never get in a staring contest with a mascot. You will lose. Waterson determined not to lose last night. AJ steps up in the pocket and that's where his man is Dom Theodore. He finds Ben, you and Hank who's just running the 40 yard dash at this point that puts the Eagles up 21 to nothing. They went ahead, added 24 more points, getting the win 45 to 0 over the South Bulldogs and welcome back to 1st and 10 right now. It is time for us to unveil our top plays of the night. It's never easy to pick the best ones, especially from week one of the playoffs. But here we go and we are starting with what might be the play of the night. I will tell you, producer said if I showed this play in its entirety, we would run out of time in the show. So I put it in fast motion. That's Jake Braun in his 100 yard and 32nd pick six for Upper Arlington, all Greyhounds quarterback Max Pappas watch this somehow avoids the sack and finds Owen Steele alone in the end zone for the touchdown as the dogs snapped a 10 game losing streak to Davidson and we finish with the hook and ladder gunner Richards, the perfect lateral there and he is gone into the end zone.
