charts of the Texans initial 53 man roster that came down today let's start with the easiest one the quarterback room and maybe a little bit of surprise for some people as the Texans went ahead and they only kept two quarterbacks Case Keenum moved to IR he's going to miss the entire season this year so the Texans essentially only keeping two quarterbacks on the roster as of right now quarterback CJ strad and Davis Mills as the qb2 on this roster now going to the running back room this one was a little interesting Joe Mixon as rb1 I don't care what you say I'm putting cam ACR as my rb2 Damen Pierce still on the roster agumba wall still on the roster and maybe the biggest surprise of the entire day British Brooks udfa out of North Carolina makes the initial 53 man roster I put him at fullback because he played a little bit of the fullback he played some HB back you know PowerBack for the Texans but I really love what they have in this udfa and British Brooks they obviously ended up not keeping jair Jordan they waved him with an injury designation the sixth round pick out of Louisville the Texans actually didn't keep multiple picks that they made during this year's draft we'll break that down throughout the show but this is your running back room heading into the year as of right now for the initial 53 man roster the Texans they're keeping seven wide receivers on this initial 53 man Stefon digs niiko Collins tank Dale no surprise there John meie and Xavier Hutchinson make the cut so does Robert Woods and Stephen Sims that was a little bit of a surprise for me personally I mean Robert Woods he was getting a lot of hate throughout the offseason I can't tell you how many times I said the Texans are probably going to cut Robert Woods Robert Woods a huge cut candidate La tomato tomato laugh in my face Robert Woods makes the final not the final the initial 53 man roster for the Houston Texans after roster cut down day same with stevenh Sims that was very interesting to me he is a really good Return Man and now that the uh Texans they cut Desmond King kind of makes sense that they wanted to keep I guess another Return Man on the roster let's go to the tight end room with the Texans this is pretty chalked they're only keeping the top three guys Dalton Schultz brevan Jordan and Cade Stover those are the three guys that's the list that's it not a big surprise there Dalton Schultz he signed a contract before the start of this season and they drafted K St over uh CJ st's old buddy from Ohio State in the fourth round of this year's draft brevan Jordan a name you got to keep an eye out for on the final year of his rookie deal he is going to look to ball out this year so he can get paid next off season something just to keep in mind during this season now let's go to the big boys on the offensive line laremy tunel Kenyan green juice grrs sha Mason Titus Howard your starters along the offensive line and then they kept some depth they got Kendrick green who can kind of play a little bit of guard a little bit of Center Jarett Patterson as the Bonafide backup center Nick broker as another you know can play guard can also play tackle and Blake fiser who they drafted in the second round of this year's draft out of Notre Dame Blake fiser is a guy who I think you know a lot of Texans fans were really up not not upset is the right word but were confused with the pick of Blake fiser during this year's draft and I've been saying all along the Texans want better depth along the offensive line the Texans want better depth along the offensive line they got a young guy who is a swing tackle who can play left tackle and right tackle as a backup that's a very vital piece to this offensive line because regardless if Titus Howard gets hurt if laramy tunel gets hurt you at least have peace of mind that you have somebody who you can somewhat trust to come in and play meaningful snaps for you at either tackle position we'll get into the offense in just a moment but with all the additions the Texans made this year defon Diggs Joe Mixon will the Texans have a top offense this season with CJ broud yeah I think they will what say you season so Mario Edwards Jr is going to be that guy that kind of fills in for him fully fot aasi denal Hunter no really surprises there they keep the veteran in Jerry Hughes Tim settle Jr is going to give you some depth along the interior of the the offensive line maybe play a little bit of dend as well khil Davis you have Derek Barnett but what really interested me here was Kurt hinish they put him as one of these shortterm IR designations along with Christian Harris who we'll get into in just a moment but I don't know why they did that I I really don't see the upside of keeping a guy like Kurt hinish he was very mediocre for this team if we're being honest last year so I really thought they could have maybe used that other short-term IR spot for somebody else or maybe just kept somebody else on this team so maybe they want to kick the wheels some more with Kurt hinish but this is your defensive line depth chart as of right now I could see them still making some moves here as well I I could still see them making some moves at the linebacker position and I I'm not going to lie I was really upset earlier in the day whenever I saw that the Titans traded for Rams linebacker Ernest Jones because Christian Harris put on short-term ir and if you're wondering about you know Kurt hinish Christian Harris what does short-term IR even mean well basically these two guys will not be able to return until week five so they're out essentially the first four games of this season Christian Harris we've been talking about he's been dealing with that calf injury dealing with that soft tissue injury all offseason long so the Texans kept six other guys on the initial 53 man roster obviously aiz Al Shire they seem to have faith in Henry toot too but they also went ahead and kept Jake Hansen Neville h H Jamal Hill the draft pick out of Oregon and Dell Sean Phillips this is your linebacker room heading into the regular season as of right now now let's kick it over to the cornerback room where I feel pretty comfortable with the top two guys Derek Stingley Jr Kamari lter and then you get into the depth Chris Boyd makes this team Jeff okuda makes this team and Miles Bryant makes this team I was really surprised that they went ahead and cut forward they gave him a two-year deal at the start of free AG agency but maybe they just didn't like what they saw out of him I thought he would be a good special teams option and a backup Reserve corner but they like what they saw out of Miles Bryant just a little bit better it seems so he makes kind of that last cornerback spot for them and obviously like I said no Desmond King he got cut again second year in a row being on this Texans team and getting cut after the initial 53 man rosters so should be interesting to see what they do with that playing in the secondary I think one of the reasons why they felt comfortable cutting Desmond King is because of this safety room coming up and Jaylen Petri in particular he has been playing more exclusively in the slot during training camp and this preseason process they really like what they have in rookie kin Bullock on the backside but it seems like they're kind of running with two sets of safety groups here you have Jimmy Ward and Jaylen Peter who they really like playing up up against the line of scrimmage playing in that slot playing in the Box a little bit more closer to the line of scrimmage and then you have the guys on the back in Ken bullet Eric Murray and MJ Stewart who they trust more on you know kind of like that free safety role for this Texans defense these are the guys that make the initial 53 man roster they're going with five safeties and these are those guys and then we have the Special Teams unit you have KY Fair barar Tommy Townsen John weeks for right now I'm GNA put John mie as a punt returner and Damen Pierce as the kick returner I don't know if it stays that way or if they possibly you know put in Steven Sims in those rules cuz obviously they kept him on the team for a reason but no changes here really for kicker punter and Long Snapper that is it that is the initial 53 man roster for your Houston Texans how are we
