Will Josh Allen's injured hand be issue vs. Dolphins? Previewing Thursday Night Football

what is up bills Mafia it is Wednesday night just kidding it's Tuesday but for our purposes it feels like a Wednesday right the bills had their media day today it's the only open practice of the week to the media uh ahead of the Miami Dolphins game on a short week so it just kind of feels like a Wednesday the staple show you're getting it here but you're also getting the preview episode of shot we're doing it all in one on this Tuesday night he is Ryan Tabet what is up my right hey not too much excited to dig into this not uh as excited about the Thursday night football game never a fan of Thursday Night Football regardless of the teams usually sloppy football injuries Galore uh knock on wood both teams leave this game healthy on Thursday regardless of the outcome uh I think you are main topic on everyone's mind entering this Thursday night football game obviously yesterday we got the uh the green light so to speak for Allen Froman mcdermit saying tested cleared ready to go ready to play or he will be able to play which was a major you know relief I'm sure for many Bills fans who were slightly worried about potentially seeing Mitch trabis against the Dolphins on Thursday Night Football that's like the great fear right like okay if alen can't go like how do you put Mike White ahead of him just because you know maybe he's got a shot I don't know to do some things in the game I feel like Mitch trabis feels like such a nonstarter um in terms of like offensive production but to your point great news uh Josh Allen for full participant in practice the last couple days now he is wearing a glove on his left hand he said today this isn't the first time he's ever worn a glove he did it uh early on maybe in college for a couple of really cold games so he's a little bit used to it doesn't know if he's gonna actually do it in the game uh on Thursday and we still got 48 hours before that game happens he had his ring finger and his middle finger taped uh so you know whatever he's got going on there he didn't really W to uh go too far down the road with that neither did Shawn mcder when he was asked about the severity of the injury so we'll just have to watch it and I think the first part of it is like will it potentially hinder him I mean it's an injury it's it's probably something that will he'll have to deal with but we saw him come back into the game against the Cardinals I think it's something that he can play through and I'm not like downgrading him so much that I think it'll affect him in this great way I still think he'll be very competitive and be able to make some plays in this game yeah I I agree with the competitive part making plays you worry though about the snap exchange if that's going to be hindered at all one just even if it's once or twice uh you worry a little bit about you know when when he's holding the football it's still Josh Allen he's going to take off and run at some point uh when he's you know trying to protect the football is he going to take a shot to that hand make matters worse so there's certain there should be in my opinion a level of concern do I still expect him to make a lot of plays yeah uh I I would though truly try to sit down with Josh and tell him you know don't break last in case of emergency this game do not run take off and run if there's anything you can do to help it and I get that that's a big part of his game it helps the Bill's offense get going uh you don't want an injury to get worse especially when there's this short window now but you get kind of a mini buy mini break here extended time off after if he can make it through this game with all that injury getting any worse you feel a lot better about these uh games that are yet to come against some very good competition in Jacksonville Baltimore uh obviously Houston and so on and so forth I want to get into this matchup obviously but I think we got a little bit of business to take care of before we get there I want to kind of dive into the details of Spencer Brown's contract really quick and and and just our overarching thoughts on the deal in general we didn't go too deep in on this last week uh it was something that always felt like one of the natural like first uh extension candidates in Spencer Brown but the details came back on the deal four years $72 million 45 total in guarantees that puts him at18 million per season uh average annual uh salary uh so that ranks according to spot track.com Ryan eighth among right tackles in the NFL and I think if you're looking from at it from a like a cost perspective and like a value perspective I think you're a Bills fan you're really excited about where he falls in line because you're two or three right tackle big time extensions or New Deals away from Spencer Brown being outside of the top 10 for aav and that's exactly what Brandon Bean does this has been the model going back as far as like the Matt Milano extension uh some other ones that he's done over the course of his time I mean really the greatest example is Josh Allen right we're a couple years removed from that extension and he's already out of the top 10 which is absolutely bewildering considering the player that he is I don't have a huge problem with the cost you're going to have to pay for premium positions tackle in this league right and left tackle are both premium positions the bills have theirs locked down uh both of them for the next couple of years in theory of they they have their their tackles locked down for the next few years I'm right on the same page with you I do have some concerns about the deal just because of the history the back injuries the up and down play last year was the first time that we really saw him one stay healthy in season and two play at a consistently high level I'm where he's at right now you're right he'll fall out of the you know the top 10 right tackle salaries he'll fall into that middle range before you know it and with the way that cap space is is working in this league I'm sure if he plays at the level he did last year this will look like a steal I would have liked to have seen a little bit more consistency before they gave him this big contract but if Brandon Bean Shawn mcdermit Aaron chromer I'm sure had a say in this matter too have that much confidence in Spencer Brown then you know you you kind of roll with it you feel like they obviously knew about at Oliver last year when a lot of people were questioning that deal um they've been ahead on a lot of these deals in a on the positive side more so than the negative side so I still had some questions I would have liked to have seen uh another half season or so of Spencer Brown playing at a high level yes it may have cost you a little bit more but I think there would have been a lot less uh worry concern or or any kind of issues in your mind about can this guy stay healthy and play at the level that we saw last year it's a little bit of roulette that you got to play right like you got to roll the dice sometimes on some of these players and in a perfect world you love to see the entire sample size and still have a chance to get a guy at a great value I think that because of it being a premium position as opposed to like Matt Milano for instance off ball linebacker I mean you can just get more value there because teams aren't breaking the bank for that position they weren't when they reassigned Matt Milano they aren't now at right tackle I mean if Spencer Brown goes out and makes a pro bowl I mean now you're talking about him pushing into like the mid 20s per season especially on the open market like to a degree based on just his season last year I think the bills got him at a pretty decent value and I know it doesn't feel like that because you look at that ballooned up number and you're already paying Dion Dawkins what you're paying him but to solidify your tackle spots in front of a franchise quarterback like Josh Allen it's important I mean you look at the Philadelphia Eagles model that Jordan myada Lane Johnson on the other side when you can get those bookends and you have them playing at a high level and you can get them under contract for multiple years I think you just got to risk it a little bit I think you make a great point on the injury history but I think it's pretty good news that he had a little bit of a injury pop up over the course of the offseason and I think Brandon be might have been waiting today we heard from Brown and he said that the conversation started early in training camp so that was really his agent came up to watch practice started having some conversations with Brandon bean and that was when Brown got back after missing all of the spring with the shoulder injury so there's a little bit of a question all right are we dealing with another injury that kind of lags is he gonna be ready to hit the ground running I think the way that he bounced back quicker than maybe before gave Brandon Bean enough you know Solace to like okay we want to get this deal done um we believe in this guy long term he's going to work to be that guy and uh they made the decision yeah and at the end of the day you trust the people that are there you trust the you know the Brain Trust of this team essentially uh that they are going to make the right decisions in the best interest of this team and you know you watch a lot of these games on Sunday and on Monday and you watch a unit like the San Francisco Isco 49ers for instance and if you have a great offensive line in place that can block whether it's pass protection run blocking it doesn't matter if it's necessarily a Christian mcaffrey or the backup who comes in and can run all over because the blocking in front is so good uh the protection in front of Brock pie is so good it makes life easier so the bills are obviously following that model of we have our two book ends we feel we have our two book ends and Dian Daw who had an outstanding game against theal on the rewatch Spencer Brown then you're hoping that interior line continues to gel and work well together I thought David Edwards had a really uh strong performance in week one which I think helps answer a lot of questions about what you have there at left guard Conor McGovern did a nice job you know Osiris Torrance struggled quite a bit penalty wise um but just overall in play was not what we saw out of him as a rookie out of his rookie year but if that line plays at anywhere close to a level those elite units it's going to help Josh Allen it's going to help James Cook Ray Davis it's going to help this team win games potentially win the AFC East and then maybe make a run in the playoffs uh thank you so much to everybody joining us on a Tuesday night so much to get to here uh over the course of the show The Game's coming up in two days a lot to dive in on those Miami Dolphins I just finished the rewatch there I rewatched Bills versus uh Cardinals so a lot of stuff uh to get here one question I saw pop up in the chat which is a really good maybe conversation starter about what this 53 man or 48 man might look like on Thursday night Taran Johnson already been ruled out Dwayne smoo Dewan Smoot also has been ruled out he's dealing with a toe injury Jim asses if it turf toe there hasn't been G given clarification on that so uh hopefully we'll get that from sea mcder but they're still evaluating that's another thing we don't know the severity of the Taran Johnson decision uh what they're going to do with him here sha mcdermitt's term that he used today was interesting he said it was they're still researching the injury so you wonder if they're trying to get second opinions or whatever they're trying to do with it uh but I are probably in the mix uh trying to figure out how long he's gonna be out for uh we don't have an update on that the question is with Taran out who do they call up is it dayquan Hardy I don't know if I'm there yet with dayquan Hardy prac the squad what I think might be more realistic is okay you have Demar Hamlin and Taylor R you have Cam Lewis who's going to play the slot corner you have Jamarcus Ingram who filled in in that dime roll you got there there you're fine if there's tens to be an injury whether it be to Ingram or to Lewis in the game Ryan I think this might be the spot to finally let Cole Bishop get his first action yeah I think you're right on the money there I I don't know if they're there with Hardy yet either and you know Hardy was that guy that I think almost everyone on the beat everyone watching the preseason games thought this guy was going to make the 53-man roster he had some good moments uh in in that nickel cornerback spot he had a few decent returns but the bills kind of felt like as the return guy he wasn't quite ready yet uh as a defensive back they probably felt like there was still some grow uh growth to be had there throwing him in against a passing attack like Miami also wouldn't necessarily be fair to a guy like Hardy uh you probably want to get some more experience you probably want to go with guys of higher pedigrees uh players that you can kind of mix match in there like you said it's going to be the cam Lewis that will play in that spot you have Ingram this is a chance for Cole Bishop to be active he's had some reps he's been healthy getting him up to speed so you're right I think that's more of the direction they take over a dquan Hardy type of elevation from the practice squad yeah and the other piece of it too is like you had Jamarcus Ingram who uh for a lot of the summer was working in as a slot corner so he gives you that versatility to play uh inside outside and they're now even working him into that dime roll like just a crazy amount of depth Ingram's actually following I just thought of this like the exact timeline of Cam Lewis right cam Lewis comes in as a boundary Corner then before long they start talking about moving him to safety then all of a sudden he's working in the slot it's like these guys can do all of these multiple things to try to make themselves super versatile super valuable um Taylor rap can also play that role so in a pinch they they could even go maybe Mike Edwards Demar Hamlin at safety and put rap in the dime roll when they had when they want to go three safety there's so many different things that they can do I see Scotty Han asking about KY elim I've not seen him take one snap uh at this at the at the slot cornerback position he to me is strictly a boundary corner and you know I know a lot of people were like surprised that we didn't see KY Elum on Sunday against the Cardinals I'm actually not like I I think that they haven't played on special teams he's probably the first boundary guy off of the bench but Christian Benford and rul Douglas did enough this summer to be planted as those two starters yeah they were the you know the clear-cut guys as promising of a summer as KY elim had uh so no issue with the fact they didn't see many or any reps on defense uh and then they went with Douglas who you know did a fantastic job against Marvin Harrison Jr when lined up on him minus one play where Harrison Jr was able to get away and luckily you know for the Bills fans sake Murray didn't see him going down field I thought Benford had a great game uh those guys really stepped up on the outside they have another big task ahead of them obviously with the you know Tyreek Hill and jayen Wadd these defensive backs cornerbacks and safeties are in for a big test again on Thursday night thank you so much for joining us it is Tuesday night we are two days out from Buffalo Bills versus Miami dolphins on the road the Dolphins open with two straight at home um we can get to the injury look on the other sideline as a lot of uncertainty about the running back room for the Miami Dolphins and to me I think that if you want to talk about onew punches in the NFL rahee moart uh Devon Anan provide one of the best combos in the league the speed the power of moster they got some other guys that you know are in the they've stocked the cupboards they went they went and added a guy in the draft uh who we might have to get to know a little bit more here uh over the next couple of days but both Anan and moster didn't practice today uh most or hen I think was a hamstring he left uh at the end of the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars I mean Ryan this is a massive development they're still the Dolphins they're still gonna have wad who kind of got banged up in the game as well but when is there an NFL football game that J Jaylen wad plays and and he doesn't get banged up Tyreek Hill had the big the big touchdown we'll get into the passing game in a minute but those two guys can't play how big of a development is that for the bills it's a big development I mean achain had some great runs against them last year he had a lot of success in the first matchup uh if I remember correctly scored in both games uh was was someone that was you know tough for them with that with that speed out of the back field uh moster is a guy that just fits the system very well but they also have Jaylen Wright kind of waiting in the wings a a very good rookie running back who just kind of biting his time for for an opportunity and that's not to say he's going to come in and star against the bills but it's not a terrible drop off there based on right skill set uh and what he brings to the table you know this team covets speed and he has that uh he he can do a lot of things really well it just might be as inexperience it might be the only thing that works in Buffalo's favor if it were to come to that on Thursday night um rest of the injury report uh couple guys banged up probably the most notable uh Jaylen Ramsey who was listed with the hamstring got the big extension played against Jacksonville and you know I thought he might have been a little bit hampered by it I mean I thought Brian Thomas Jr absolutely destroyed him on that one touchdown and Jaylen Ramsey was doing anything he could to interfere to try to take away that touchdown um but to me that a huge opportunity for a guy like Keon Coleman in this in this game he it didn't look too big for him in the opener he found a way to make an impact in a couple different ways no matter who the the Dolphins decideed to defend Coleman with and listen Ryan did you see some of these clips of or these stills of Dalton concade in this game yeah like three or four Arizona Cardinals draped around him all over him that is pretty unbelievable how much already teams are trying to take Conca out but I think the way that the bills had success in the passing game still is a you know I think Joe Brady Shawn mcder Brandon Bean should Pat themselves on the back like this is the this was the vision right when you take him away they brought in enough different kind of pieces to sustain things in the passing game they did a really good job of that against the car the Cardinals yeah I mean anytime you can get the ball to nine different pass catchers including cancade who had a grab in that game you're doing something right and you're right there's some stills of four guys around dalan conade on one play two or three on another they went into that game saying can Kate is the one guy that's not going to beat us not named Josh Shen obviously joshen scored four total touchdowns but Allen's a problem in his own right so when when they picked one player though besides Allen it was conc and they did a great job of taking him out but that's maybe a part of why they leaned heavily into the Run game a little bit uh their struggle Arizona's struggles last year against the run the fact that they they could see that their top pass catching option was not going to be able to you know Break Free with coverage like that uh but when Allen had to pass the ball he was able to distribute it well Keon Coleman had a very solid performance in his debut Mack Holland with the score you know what khil Shakir brings to the table and that list goes on and on you know I think that Thursday night might be a good coming out party for Curtis Samuel uh if and only if the Dolphins follow a very similar game plan to what we saw where they they try to eliminate concade because I think that there's a a lot in the bag of tricks so to speak and if you want to limit Allen as a runner and you want it to make it a make them a little bit more Dynamic than just the running backs in that room Curtis Samuel brings you some different things that he can do out of the back field as well you know one thing that I I really wish the bills would have been more um deliberate about this off season was taking a long look at their defensive line spot and adding a little bit more competition like we talked about it when they added DeShawn Williams who actually uh he got a a look a try out uh visit with the Panthers I saw reported today so he's kind of still out there kicking around but it tells you something that the bills had no interest in bringing him back to the practice squad he was never a guy that I thought was going to be in the mix so you go out and you get Austin Johnson you bring in Williams who was this other guy that you kind of hoped from your pro Personnel scouting was going to be somebody you can count on then you land DNE Carter and listen I know that they're high on Carter they like him a lot but they play him seven snaps right and I asked Shawn mcder today about the the the the lack of snaps between them 13 for Johnson seven for um Carter that Ryan that's a huge workload on Oliver and Jones over the course of the season and maybe you gotta you need them to carry a little bit more of the load early on as Dwayne Carter's kind of getting the speed of the game down but he compared it to to to Greg rouso as a guy like comes in his first couple years has to kind of figure things out and they're hoping that the growth and development is there it's like well that's all well and good but you need guys right now in this rotation if you're putting Carter and Johnson out there against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night you have to be able to rely on them to be able to make stops in the Run game and generate some pressure because here's the thing Ryan one of my keys to the game you have to impact the game up the middle Ed Oliver dayquon Jones dayquon Jones was an animal last year he was the he was arguably the best player on the field I remember then he got hurt in London the next week you have to affect the game in the middle and I'm just a little bit concerned about the drop off off to Johnson and Carter as Sean mcder said today they're still trying to get Johnson to execute to play the way they like their tackles to play in this defense it's funny because you watch the the players the bills have brought in over the years for depth options and you get these expectations and the last few years they have not met expectations you start to wonder if the systems part of it in terms of what they want the players to do uh I don't know how many games you watched rewatched or saw clips of M but you know one defensive tackle a former depth defensive tackle for the bills that had a monster game last week Puna Ford Puna Ford was a they never liked them they just never liked them monster for the Chargers in week one he was one of their highest graded guys on PFF but he was he was unbelievable when you watch the video clips and what he did and it's you sit there and you say okay the bills signed this guy they were interested last year they got they finally signed him once the uh compensatory pick formula went out the window they have to worry about that anymore and then he could never get on the field he was not a contributor and you know you look at Austin Johnson and he he made a play or two in that first game but it wasn't anything spectacular and you have Dwayne Carter who they're bringing along as that rookie and the depth there is a concern I mean uh in a game like this do you elevate a player there probably not because you're healthy at defensive tackle you have some options uh but it's just bizarre how some guys come in here they don't work out here but then when they go elsewhere they they look just like they did in a previous stop and how they played so you know in terms of this match up on Thursday night I think Ed Oliver could have a very good game he did not play very well in week one against Arizona I thought he struggled watch the game I did I I I didn't come away very impressed with him overall um again if you have a different stance feel free I don't I as a matter of fact it's like listen I don't think every game is going to be great right like I don't think you know our good buddy Pat Moran is on the oh my gosh he's on the Ed Oliver uh hate train and I I get it to a degree like I I get wanting him to be at a level consistently you know you see the opener right right if anybody has a reason to take a game off it's Chris Jones right the guy's won two straight Super Bowl he's got three he's one of the most decorated defensive tackles of all time it doesn't matter he the ball gets rolled out he's ready to play he makes big impact plays in the game and it's like when is it GNA get to a point where Ed Oliver is the guy that you consistently like rely upon for that week in and week out I get all of that but I'm not ruling out him coming in against a Miami Dolphin offensive line that doesn't really impress you and having a huge monster game and Greg rouso is coming off of a big game Von Miller talked today about like did you know it was 665 days I never even really put my head around that that it's been that long since between Von Miller's sacks right the last sack he had before the injury against the Vikings in 2022 and then obviously didn't have one all last season then gets Kyler Murray kind of Kyler Murray kind of fell and he tagged him but he still won his rep and his pass rush ring was really good uh against the Arizona Cardinals and I think he has a chance to do that again this week so you just want the consistency from aliver and the big impact plays that's just it it's consistent see it's not just those games where he takes over uh and he dominates but then you know doesn't build off of that the following week I you just want to see consistent play it doesn't have to always be multiple sacks or big plays week like one play here and there it just needs to be a consistent level and there's a lot of es and flows ups and downs so to speak and uh I see Jim here in the comments man especially with the heat they will need to rotate players in and out I agree with that it's still going to be hot in in Miami the one good thing is that don't have to worry about the the Sun hitting them like it would in the midafternoon had this been a Sunday afternoon game so the bills did luck out a little bit in terms of it being an evening game still be it'll still be hot it'll still be humid but it's not going to be one of those cases where you look at their sideline and it's like 130 over there uh and much different over on the Miami sideline they did have they did luck out a little bit with the way this was scheduled so I'm I'm going to read you the weather report for Thursday while we're bringing up the weather 35% chance of precipitation Thursday's low will be 78 degrees between 4:00 a.m. and 5 a.m. and the high will be 92 to 3 pm precipitation 35% is not crazy and obviously it goes to the highest right around game time so it could definitely rain on the day um but I think the rain actually the bills historically have played pretty good in the rain and I almost feel like that kind of gives them the mat that Advantage like bring down the temperature five or six degrees with a little rain have it be a little bit tougher to get your footing like slow the game down a little bit Bill's gonna lead on their run game and that's another thing about this that I think is interesting this is g to be two teams that want to run the ball who can assert themselves more what do you think about hello to Chris Spencer one of our uh YouTube subscribers always checking in from Hawaii I believe he always drops the Aloha um what do you think about this being a game where Ray Davis gets a little bit more heavily involved um I liked the two plays that he got back to back uh last week I want to see maybe a little bit more I don't want it to necessarily mean James Cook comes off the field but how can they maybe get him a little bit more involved this week well it might be James coming off the field but that's not a bad thing to give the guy a breather uh for here and there you know give Ray Davis every third series or every fourth series however they want to bre break it down and but actually keep him in for the entire the entirety of the series give him some looks give him some more opportunities because you're right his run was very good his reception out of the back field was very good we know he can block and if the weather is exactly how you laid it out there I I would like this for uh Buffalo I I thought that Jacksonville had some success on the ground I thought they were about to put the game away where when etn was stripped of the football just as he was about to run into the end zone um where you know James Cook and Ray Davis could really have nice games the bills block like they were in this you know second half and open lanes up for those guys keeps the ball out of the hands of of Tua and that passing attack but the rain would also slow down the Speedy receivers the rain might make the ball a little bit slippery for Tua uh who doesn't have the the hands or the you know the arm strength necessarily of the Josh Allens of the world too so there there's a lot of factors where the rain live that first time especially in the stadium it's tough like there's things that I miss like going back and watching uh the game again it's like I didn't realize how strong of a game that Deon Dawkins had like that was my biggest takeaway and why I think in this game the Dolphins strength on their defensive line is their Edge rushers their their interior defensive lineman I really like Syler like he's a really good player but without Christian Wilkins I think you could kind of game plan against him a little bit to take out a guy like Jaylen Phillips and chop Robinson on the outside you're going to be excited about having Spencer Brown and Dion Dawkins out there to block those two guys and are the kinds of things that we're going on on and on about with our insiders throughout the week right you know I I think the dline as a whole in Miami right now is nowhere in terms of what it could look like later this season when they do get healthier or when they get all those pieces of the puzzle back so maybe the bills have benefited in terms of when they're playing Miami here but there's still Talent on the outside you mentioned on the interior theyve one very good defensive tackle but without Christian Wilkins who has been a real thorn in the side for the bills uh has been a real thorn on the side for Josh Allen specifically this is going to be interesting to see how how the Bills play it in terms of attacking do they attack the middle of that defensive line where they didn't necessarily try to do that as much in the past um do they play at at those Edge rushers especially a young guy like chop Robinson try to um you know make him if he comes if he's over pursuing trying to get after the quarterback and you run in his Direction can that lead to a big run there's a lot of interesting angles to watch in terms of how the bills attack the Dolphins defensive line all right so speaking of defensive line or defense in general let's move back to the secondary because obviously Javon Holland another monster game to come out couple of huge difference making plays you mentioned the force fumble on etn at the goal line I mean he scores that touchdown I think they go on to win I think the Jacksonville Jaguars go on to win that game so he's at Elite level safety the bills are going to have to figure out where he is he's crazy dude he lines up everywhere on one play he had a pass break up lining on out up on the boundary one-on-one I think it was against either Gabe Davis or Brian Thomas Jr I mean he is they put him everywhere um but in that secondary Jordan puyer so watching him play that game it wasn't great but I also went back and looked at some of his PFF grades through the first month of the season last year and I think that's the level that he's at now he's going to occasionally get in make things violent he's going to put a big hit on somebody but he's usually a step or two behind I didn't think necessarily when Micah Hyde last year was healthy I still thought he was playing close to the level that he had always given him but when he was healthy was very much a crap shoe from week to week right toyer to me was the the consistent falloff over the course of the season I think he's still that guy I didn't have a problem on rewatch with Demar Hamlin and and Tor rap I know it wasn't all great for ref but I thought he he kind of got better as the game went along played pretty decent in the fourth quarter and I think they're going to build on things week in and week out the big thing this week though is you can't have missed tackles against this team if you have missed tackles it turns it five 10 yard gains turn into touchdowns right I mean any touch can go to the house with the speed that this offense in Miami has so tackling needs to be clean it was an issue where the bills weren't tackling very well in the first half of that matchup against Arizona as the game went on however that improved that's what one big area uh in terms of Jordan puyer I almost wonder if in this game game the Intel he's going to give to Miami about Buffalo's offense buffalo's defense might be more valuable than what he actually does on the field now this is a game where he might be able to make a big play because there's no offense that he's practiced against more than Buffalo's uh but you know Tua uh recently talked and our friend Marcel had a quote today on uh X or Twitter as you call it about Jordan puyer and Saran Neil and how much they're G they can help the Dolphins offense this week prepare for Buffalo and he said yeah they definitely can can take a lot of the information that I've been given from those guys early in the week and apply it on Thursday so I know that it's Bobby babit calling the plays it's not quite the same thing but this is still Shawn MC's defense offensively I know that Joe Brady was just the interim OC last year but they saw a lot of what Brady probably was trying to do incorporate and bring along when he was still using the previous regime's off there is something to that where I think those guys are going to uh be able to help that defense in Miami but also Miami's offense terms of what they see out of the bills defense I'm just reading some of these comments here doctor Weber fit asking about uh Javon Solomon he is back he practiced in a limited basis the last couple of days and that'll be interesting if they can get him back kicked up here Ryan and ready to play on Thursday I know it's a short week but that could be a really interesting addition because one the other thing about the rewatch great play on special teams by Casey twohill to come down and blast that guy uh when when the returner for the Cardinals uh muffed the the kickoff but as a pass rusher he just didn't do a lot for me this is something that we were talking about all offseason long with two Hill he ended up with a pass rush grade of 53.7 which was even lower than Dwayne Carter and Austin Johnson who didn't grade out super favor ably I mean Ed Oliver actually came in at a 50 so I that pretty brutal day for him but in terms of pressure two Hill was out there for let's see total 11 snaps wasn't able to um generate any pressures or any tackles I think this is a game where you like that juice potentially that Javon Solomon could sprinkle in but what is the the math here is it Solomon in for Klein and you keep him down and then you look at what they do in the secondary I don't know if they'll activate some other secondary member I mean Cole Bishop was inactive last week I imagine he'd be active how do you think this all kind of shakes out if Solomon can give it a go yeah it would be Solomon taking that spot that Klein occupied on the roster by being elevated for sure and you know if there's one thing Buffalo has done a really good job of against Tua over the years is taking away his first read that's his bread and butter if you can get him off the first read he holds the football longer than he'd like good things can happen in terms of sacking him getting your hands on the football maybe creating these interceptions and if you take away that first read and you have a guy with with like Javon Solomon on the edge with that juice I think he could make a play make an impact play I don't think he'll see a lot of opportunities uh based on the Reps and how they worked out last week and that's okay they have guys in front of him right now but giving him a few uh pass rush plays here and there would not be the worst idea against Miami offense where again when when Tua has that read he gets the ball very quickly but if you can take that away the offensive line isn't that great and this could be a good situation for Solomon to come in and make an impact shout out a little bit about this game here let's really like narrow the focus and talk about what needs to happen the key to the game for the bills to win this game and maybe a player that you're specifically watching that you think could be a differen maker on either team um I think the Difference Maker in this game is going to be James Cook and or Ray Davis I think this is a game where if the bills can establish the run with Josh Allen's left hand in this in the state that it's in takes a lot off of Allen's play keeps him safe keeps him upright but if you get that run game going the play action pass then goes and Allen can carve up the the Dolphins defense I know Allen's had nothing but great success against Miami I think this is a game where they need to lean on the run a little bit at times and I think that they have the guys to do it and the blocking in front to do it so for me it's going could come down to Buffalo's Run game in in terms of how this game uh you know what happens at the end of this game so maybe not a a normal pick that I would have if Josh Allen were healthy or at 100% but I'm gonna go with James Cook okay um so third down defense for me is so key in this game and the the third down defense is is interesting because if you go back and watch the Jacksonville game the the Dolphins were in a lot of third and long in the first half and you get the first 30 minutes and lo and behold they've only put up seven points on the board and that's because the the Jags defense was getting pressure on Tua they were stifling the the Run game I mean they had like eight tackles for a loss in this game most of it came in the first half so guys like Greg rouso have to be a menace on early Downs Ed Oliver because the more you do that put them in a uh long situation on third down that's when it gets really difficult and then I think if you do that and force some to throw get some pressure on third down now you're going to start to generate some turnovers potentially and that's going to be the difference big biggest Difference Maker and I I will pin another point to this and that is the bills cannot turn the ball over on the road against this team they did a really good job of it taking care of the ball after the Josh Allen sack I think that's a it's almost good that that happened in week one it's like a nice jolt to the system for Josh Allen to be able to say okay I got the fumble out of the way I gotta make sure that I'm being really careful with the football you know you have a couple guys on that defense mainly Javon um Holland and also their linebackers like Brooks and long are an underrated linebacker Duo especially in coverage so that's something they're gonna have to to watch for in this game but I think if you could take care of the ball force them into third in Longs and then get stops on third down and get off the field on third down that's my biggest key to the game the player that I'm watching I'm gonna go with Keon Coleman man like I think that he slowly and I I guess I can't say slowly It's Quickly because I mean he just the hype train really started um draft time then it the conversation quickly shifted to all right what's the realistic expectations for year one for this guy now before I get into this you shared a clip that I haven't been able to watch yet on social media from uh Dan rowski of ESPN take me into what what Dan saw from ke on Coleman on Sunday yeah uh it was Dan another Analyst at ESPN they were talking about you know four of the receptions that he made and what was the good what could he do better and everything that they said was right on the money in terms of you know they they praised Coleman for the route running sitting in the zone at the right spots getting open uh some of the criticism were were just like the dancing around after the catch doesn't really work in the NFL you have to be more sudden with it which I I do agree when you watch those clips he would kind of turn and and kind of bounce around back and forth it didn't really generate any extra yards he needs to catch the ball and just turn up field it might just generate an extra three or four yards but that's still three or four more yards than what he would have had last week in those situations the sideline play they talked about how uh he should you know try to stay a little bit more inside the cornerback so that way he's not right against the sideline uh they praise Josh Halen on that throw essentially that if it wasn't Josh Allen that would almost be an impossible throw for a quarterback but they praised a lot about the body positioning the knowledge of where to sit the U you know the immediate route running in terms of what they saw out of him in that matchup so there's a lot of good that came out of that clip highly recommend anyone watching I shared it on myh EX or Twitter feed yeah I'm going to give it a watch I I enjoy Dan Arlovski analysis uh when he when he goes to the tape similar to Greg Kos two of my goto guys uh for me Coleman is a is a big player in this game because I just I don't believe in the cornerbacks for the Dolphins like I think Jaylen we talked about this a little bit Jaylen Ramsey I think is still living on a lot of hype I think kenel Fuller is a nice player um we'll see how comfortable he is in that scheme and that's another piece of this that's a little bit of an unknown this is a new defensive scheme how much did both sides to Mark's point in the comments show last week right like I in in the first game knowing that you're turning around in four days to play a division rival how much of what you want to do uh did you want to show off in the game so I'm gonna be watching Keon Coleman super closely uh I think it could be uh an interesting development if he goes in and has a monster game the bills go on the road and beat the Miami Dolphins if if I'm thinking about what Bills fans would get really excited about on Friday morning if it's that it's what we're talking about Keon going off on national TV would be a huge development yeah absolutely huge and real quick here Buffalo Williams uh for whatever reason we can't comment on X on here we don't have that option uh it's great out on my screen at least so I just want to acknowledge your question here why do you think Joe Brady refuses to call play action on uh Second and short it's just one game that he didn't do that I mean give it time I think there will be situations where uh he he will try to attack those favorable field positions where you can hopefully get it on the next play uh so I I wouldn't uh worry too much about that yet but as for Keon Coleman himself you know the body positioning the size the knowledge of where to sit uh there's a lot to like there he can create mismatches you know I I mentioned the fact that uh I thought the Red Zone would be where he would Thrive the most but he did a great job on that sideline play I know there wasn't a lot of Separation but that was okay because it was that 50/50 ball where you trust your guy and he had the best body positioning he kind of boxed out the defender uh got where he needed to be on that specific play so there was a lot to be encouraged about in terms of Keon Coleman and his rookie debut um definitely and I and I also think that there's something to be said for if you think you're a physical team at the point of attack lean into the running game and trust that your running backs can get a yard or two um so I think that that's part of it uh and I also think that like you're you're you got to worry about tendency building in this league like you you you've hear so many guys talk about like as the tape gets kind of piled up some things that you might just want to save for later in the season and you can't save everything but like in terms of what you want to be especially early in the season when you got a fully healthy offensive line I have no problem just trying to uh out physical A Team all right let's get into the final segment here Ryan Talbot it is prediction time and can I tell you for the first time since we started this podcast I started this podcast without my prediction written down and established already I might have to we might have to have a little like talk through session here because I don't have my pick okay I've been thinking about it all day so you're gonna start us off we'll see where you're at and then I'll uh I'll go with mine you know in our game by game predictions recently that we published I I said that uh I can't pick the Dolphins until I see them regularly start to beat the bills and it just hasn't happened yet I know Josh Helen's coming to this game with an injury but much like those Tom Brady Patriots against the bills I can't go against Buffalo uh they've had too much success against Miami I do have the bills winning this on the short week uh it's a close one it's it's a little bit of a nailbiter which that seems to be the Buffalo Bills way of living making their their fans age at a you know a rapid rate during football season Bill's 27 Dolphins 24 all right so 2724 close claim on the road so so I guess the first part for me is number one Josh Allen being available to play the bills being pretty much healthy on offense I think that you know not a ton of wear and tear on Samuel I liked your point on him earlier that could be something that can be a little bit of a surprise for the Dolphins uh he wasn't he didn't appear at taunt on tape when you go back and watch that game and I think you know he had two quiet catches but somebody I think is they're starving to get him more involved so if this up being a Curtis Samuel game also I could totally see that um here's the the two big parts for me number one these running backs not being able to play for the Dolphins changes the the the math for me a little bit and after I got a chance to really watch their defense for an entire game I came away with I don't know where they're extraordinarily better than the Cardinals like I didn't come away from that game despite the bills putting up 34 on the Cardinals the other day I didn't come away from that saying that the Arizona defense wasn't as impressive as the Dolphins against the Jags so I think where I'm at their inability I believe to get pressure on Josh Allen will be a big factor in this game and I also think that the bills are very comfortable they spent their summer getting comfortable being okay with whatever result comes on a play and to me I think that's going to be a departure from what the Dolphins have had to defend over the last couple of Seasons even what Jordan puyer has had to defend in practice against Josh Allen in this offense that's a thing that we haven't talked enough about all of this like materials that Jordan puyer could take with him all these years of experience going up against Josh Yen he could take all that with him to Miami but he can't prepare he hasn't seen Joe Brady's new look offense all the concept that's they've added he's never played against this collection of pass catchers without Stefon Diggs when that's been the majority's focus of the defense uh so I I really like that level of balance that the bills can bring offensively and putting the Dolphins defense off balance so I think I've talked to myself off of the Dolphins winning which I had in my prediction uh a couple weeks ago here and I think I am going to take the bills in a close close game 28- 27 nailbiter Bills win and nailbiter uh maybe a late fourth quarter touchdown and to me that is where the bills still have the advantage late in the game if it's Tua versus Josh Allen I I feel like Tua is the Josh Allen to Patrick momes of this uh you know battle over the years Josh Allen is consistently gotten the better of them to your point until Tua and the Dolphins are able to slay the giant I'm going with uh the Buffalo Bills in this love it yeah same page you know Miami is a talented team they did show a lot of uh they looked like a different team in the way that they were able to come back and dig themselves out of that hole against Jacksonville where that hasn't always been the case I saw Mike McDaniel say something about in years past that wouldn't have been a game that they had won they had some timely turnover that they created they made some big plays off of that a 14-point swing in fact off of the etn fumble so this is a good team it's something to watch but uh I still have more faith in the bills than the Dolphins at this point in time all right uh Daryl Fletcher my guy uh from over on X but is is commenting on YouTube thank you hit that like And subscribe everybody on YouTube um Anan did not practice again today uh we won't have game status I believe um well we won't have we won't know for sure until Thursday so uh no report out uh on hn and they're probably going to play that out uh similarly to the Christian mcaffrey Saga yeah
