Intro Texas Tech football is officially back as the Red Raiders are set to kick off the 2024 season on Saturday Night Under The Lights of the newly renovated Jones AT&T Stadium against the abing Christian Wildcats and in today's video we've got a game preview thank you thank you for being back football and in the video we will discuss the must-watch players the odds as well as my prediction for game number one of year number three of the Joey Maguire era hey how's it going everybody it's RC Maxfield here for the back to2 podcast and I've got one question and one question for you only if you've been subscribed throughout the years you know what I'm about to ask you on a game preview video who you got Who Ya Got?! ladies and gentlemen let me know down on the pin comment below who what the score you have is for game number one I'm I'm stumbling over my words I'm so excited about football season being back for the Red Raiders let me know your score prediction for game number one of the 2024 season for your Texas Tech Red Raiders against the abene Christian Wildcats down on the pin comment below Scene Setter for ACU at Texas Tech all right so what we're going to cover in today's video there there's a lot to discuss okay but let's set the scene in terms of where will this game be played and well where can you watch it you can obviously watch the game if you're at the Jones and see the new re well just newly renovated it looks gorgeous in the pictures in terms of the South End Zone the over $200 million Innovation to not only the Jones but also the football facilities for Texas Tech that looks great but kickoff time is scheduled for 6:30 pm. Central Time Under The Lights there at the Jones on ESPN plus now an interesting point of this for Texas Tech this season it's the 100th season of Texas Tech football thought that was History between Texas Tech & Abilene Christian pretty cool and the history between Texas Tech and abene Christian damn needs to go back about three qus of that because it feels weird to say but this is only the 10th alltime meeting between the wild cats and the Red Raiders actually the first time that they've played on the grid iron since 1949 yeah I had to triple check that for you guys but it is inevitably true the Red Raiders lead the alltime series against their West Texas counterparts I guess you could say um only 170 miles separate Ates the abene Christian campus and Texas Tech but the Red Raiders lead the alltime Series 6 to3 now there are plenty of former Red Raiders on the wild cats team including the coaching staff and head coach Keith Patterson out there but also the quarterback Maverick mcgyver and then you've also got Trey Cleveland and a few other guys as well so you'll notice some names watching this game on ESPN Plus in terms of the opposing team having some names you recognize that is now on the injury front Joey McGuire says said there will be no Edge rusher Charles Esther III for this game or Javon Willcox the transfer from TCU now it does sound like both of those guys have the potential to be back for the game up in Washington state in week two I'm going to need some coffee for that one scheduled kickoff for that is 900 PM my goodness all right players Texas Tech Players To Watch to watch for the Red Raiders I'm not I'm not going away from the names you want to know people I'm just like you I'm a fan as well like I want to see Baron Morton we haven't seen Baron Morton completely healthy in over a full year okay I want to see if his shoulder is in fact 100% I want to see that patented Baron Morton zip on the ball I want to see him use the plethora of weapons that Texas Tech not only added via the portal but also the high school ranks I want to see him use these guys in terms of how are you using Josh Kelly how was Jaylen Conor incorporated into this offense Caleb don't forget the payday Douglas in there and then obviously you want to see Taj Brooks but I want to see Baron Morton at 100% Health that's what he says he is that's what the coaching staff says he is I want to see the zip on the football that we grew accustomed to his freshman year out at Texas Tech where he was slinging it and looked like Brett Favre now will that happen I think it will stay for the prediction here in just a second now another guy that I want to see again I'm not steering away from the big names in game number one I want to see them I want to see Tosh Brooks I want to see him get off to a fast start to getting to 1168 that will make him the all-time leading rusher in Texas Tech program history I I'm just like you I want to see greatness Taj Brooks is great I want to see him against an offensive line that you know hey like it's supposed to be better it can't be much worse than it was last year and look what he did last year over 1400 yards he's a guy that is a true Game Changer as we all know but I think is going to make Baron Morton's life and these offensive weapons on the outsides life a lot easier I just want to see him behind this newly tooled offensive line and really who's playing on the offensive line is it Carter at Right Guard or is it Rogers and if Rogers is at Right Guard it's going to be Ty Buchanon right we know what the left side is going to look like it's going to be Porsche at the left tackle spot Vinnie Scurry at the left guard spot two transfers in there right there and then sherid and Wilson as the starting center we just don't know exactly what it's going to look like on the right side but if I had to guess right now I think it's going to be Devon Carter at the Right Guard spot and then Caleb Rogers at right tackle now another one that I'm looking forward to in terms of this isn't a player this is a position group to watch it's the edge rushers and the reason being is this you're not going to be able to tell a whole lot if they go out and have a great game right it's ABN chrisan and I'm not trying to throw shade to abing Christian but there's levels to this right there's levels I want to see whether it's Harvey Dyson II whether it's Amir Washington whether it's Isaac Smith the list goes on and on I want to see them absolutely dominate from a confidence perspective because you think about this group in its totality there's not a lot of proven production right you have flashes there of Amir Washington against Cal in the bowl game you have Isaac Smith in the previous bowl game but he missed this past season you have Harvey Dyson who has really been the talk of that defensive side of the football when it comes to getting after the quarterback in Fall Camp the talent is there but you have to have confidence with ingame live reps and I want to see them just go out and thoroughly dominate a lesser opponent in the abin Christian Wildcats and get that confidence boost going into a week where you were going to need to get after the quarterback against Washington State it's a vastly different team than what we saw in 20123 we know that because well one of the former cougars is on Texas Tex team in Kelly but you want to build that confidence early and often for that edge rushing group that doesn't have a ton of experience and this is the perfect game to do so all right reminder Watch Matchup the must-watch matchup for me and I copped out here full transparency raise a hand I took the easy way out on this one I just want to see the tech offense I think I know what the defense is there's a lot of depth on that defense I think like Jo Maguire said you could have 20 plus guys play on that defense this year on a consistent basis and I would not be shocked what the hell does the offense look like first and foremost is the offensive line truly better or was it just hyped up again right and I'll admit I'm part of the hype up I think it is going to be better but I could be wrong right is Baron Morton truly healthy let me see what a healthy Baron Morton looks like I'll beat against abene Christian in a live game I want to see TOS Brook's greatness right I want to see this newly improved playmaking unit for the Red Raiders both at the wide receiver group and the tight end spot I want to see what the hell this offense looks like and again I am not saying abalene Christian is going to tell you everything you need to know about this Texas Tech offense because again it's a lowerer tier opponent but I want to see them come out and simply just jump on the gas pedal not just one foot on the gas pedal jump on it right that's what I want to see from this offense because you got The Playmakers to do that and if you see that early on okay there's not going to be much that changes my mind about this Texas Tech Team in terms of the expectations and their ceiling unless they maybe come out and dominate like 63 to nothing which I guess is technically in the cars but that's what I want to see that is the most watch matchup for me is this Texas Tech offense I want to see will Hammond get snaps that means that Baron Morton and Cameron Brown are on the bench because Texas Tech is up by 40 plus points I want to see that I want them to come out and absolutely jump on the pedal all right when it comes to the odds and well my prediction we'll start Odds & Prediction with the odds the spread for this one according to DraftKings is minus 34 points towards Texas Tech with a total over under set at 56 a half I think that's more than fair I will say this I do think this Texas Tech team is vastly improved from last year I get it you're not going to tell a lot from this first game but I do think they're going to want to come out and send a message with the grand opening of that South inzone project right you've got the new sound system Joey Maguire has talked about and this team is veteran Le and I think they will come out and thoroughly outclass and dominate the abing Christian Wildcats by a score of 58 to 17 Again my score prediction is 5817 Red Raiders let me know yours down on the pin comment below and if you haven't already we're going to
