download on that too but first let's talk about what Kirby talked about Monday so Brian Kirby was silent on whether or not Trevor ATN will be suspended for the game against Clemson as a result of atn's DUI in March last week we did talk about whether or not Trevor ATN should get suspended but with the game just five days away do you think Kirby Smart will let him play I still don't know T but I think in my like my gut tells me uh my gut tells me he's gonna sit out the first half like that's that's what I think is going to wind up happening and it's GNA be it's one of those times I mean of course it's the first big Saturday we had week zero but this is the first big one with week one where that 11: a.m warm-ups 11:30 everybody's gonna be on Twitter trying to check out okay are they playing is he dressed is he in the thing is he in full pads is he not is he you know whatever it is and there's a couple other guys like that too but I think ultimately he winds up sitting out a half or even or even the entire game but I do think there is some disciplinary action that winds up happening um and I've kind of gone back and forth on this but I think it ultimately winds up being the first half for this game yeah I have to agree with you that's kind of Where I Stood last week and that's where I still stand although we we don't know I'm just postulating and for some reason dvis I woke up in the middle of the night as I always do and I was like oh 31 to 17 and it's gonna be 31 to 17 because and I was like why did that come to me I said CA Trevor at is not going to play the first half and George George going to get off to a slow start but ultimately he comes back and they smoke Clemson in the second half but for you kind of what are the tea leaves showing you as far as what what you think will happen with ATN well you know if you uh check out that uh athletic department uh conduct code this is a level two violation for Trevor etn now if he had been convicted of a DUI that would have warned a a one game suspension and you know that's those those are the rules and that's where they are but however you know Kirby Smart controls a play playing time so I feel like he's probably gonna he's going to play and I feel like he'll probably be like a first half type situation where he won't that that he won't play and then come in in the second half and do and do his thing so that's kind of where I I'm at with it because you know a lot of times you know when you think about you know looking at each situation you know um differently and kind of what it is and and how it works out so I feel like that getting that you know not getting convicted of of a DUI was really huge for him um they were able to work that out um in the courts so in the court system so I feel like overall he'll probably miss that that first half like BG mentioned and and we'll be looking at him coming in that second half and kind of doing his thing yeah and I think when you look at the fact and that's a great Point Jaris about which level uh he he ultimately ended up at and with him receiving the 12 months of probation the $852 fine the 45 per month supervision fee the community service Etc I think that all says that hey there's some semblance of Retribution that you have to pay like there's some penalty that you have to pay and if there's a penalty from the law there's probably going to be some semblance of penalty from Kirby but it'll probably be Meed out very very lightly with that versus say a an actual uh guilty verdict now Kirby Smart also announced Monday unfortunately that rogic Robinson is having surgery on his toe Jarvis and is week to week how will not having Robinson maybe affect the game plan for the dogs rushing attack when you think about having to not having the leading rusher you know returning to your team that that's pretty big but you know when you think about it like Kirby builds this team on De right especially at the running back spot we know how he loved those those backs and I think that they'll be I think they'll be okay I think they'll be fine because you have a guy like Branson Robinson returning he's a guy that you know got hurt in August last you're leading into the season and I know a lot of people were you know upset because he he looked so he look he played so well in in the national championship game against TCU so when you think about it from that aspect of it he has just been a guy that can you know come out there and be explosive and and knows what he's doing and has been willing to just go through all of the rehab and all of this stuff and and Kirby even said it to us she said the GU just been continue to thrive and continue to be that guy that he wants to be and he's exercised that patience and now he's going to be able to get an opportunity to be able to put it on display and show and remind folks hey I can play some football too and remind Brian that it's running back you at the end of the day so there's always somebody churning in that room for you g 100 perc and uh Roger Robinson I'm glad I think it's a smart decision on Kirby Smart's part to go ahead and have this surgery to go ahead and do this so this isn't something he was dealing with all season long just nip it in the bud keep it moving so works like that so yeah yeah ex exactly and especially it hurts at any position and every every position in football is explosive and all that but when you're a big guy like him and you're trying to push off and get there that's only gon to get worse and worse and worse and worse so I think this is where the etn decision becomes so big right the fact that rogic Robinson is out so if you have no rogi Robinson and you have no etn you supposedly have a full go Branson Robinson which I don't believe that he's a full go in the sense of here's the ball 25 times Branson so I think it's going to be a true running back by committee between Branson and I also think you're I think you're gonna see cash Jones because he he's a pretty good at catching the ball out of the back field as well and then Nate Frasier's been turning heads in the summer in terms of just being able to get maybe a few looks here and there so I'm curious to see how much he's used and I think ultimately and especially if we assume that etn out in the first half or for the whole game we're really going to find out which guy Kirby and both trust the most to pass block because they're going to give Beck the ball to be able to do it so you'll probably learn who they trust from that standpoint of okay this guy can do it the one other wrinkle I could see and it's something we've talked about a little bit in the summer and there's Whispers of it is the idea of Dylan Bell being back there at running back for a handful of possessions so I think that that could happen too especially maybe on third down to give that when we have that first third and three third and four oh okay Dylan bells in the back field because again they trust him and then he has the ability to catch it out of the back field and has running back experience so I think it's going to be a full true running back by committee on Saturday I think Branson ultimately winds up getting the most carries in this game uh but I think we're spread out georg's gonna be spread out between three four five guys on Saturday now BG you mentioned one of Georgia's nine transfers in the off season that being of course Trevor ATN now Clemson on the other hand brought in zero players from the transfer report of the only Power four program in the country to actually not now Kirby Smart said he's good with his approach but gave dabos Sweeney credit for his approach saying quote if I could keep my entire roster my roster I'd be all for keeping my roster my roster it's not realistic to think you're going to keep all your players right now now some of the medium took it as a referendum on the transfer portal but for you do you see Saturday's game as a win in the argument for the portal if the dogs win or an argument against it if maybe they lose yeah I this thing with Dabo it's just so it's just so dumb like it's just so like it's just stupid it's like it's not even like I don't even know what he's trying to accomplish or what you're trying to prove or what kind of like you know responsibility and maintaining you know like commitment to stuff and it's just this is not the world in 2024 in college football so the think that you can play at the highest possible level without using the transfer portal honestly there's just this view of yourself that you think that you're that much better and can handle the situation that much better than everybody else we literally every other major coach in terms of you know yes Kirby Smart and Georgia if they do does it the nod to transfer portal yes but like look what Ryan day and Ohio State did look at Dan Lanning picking up a new quarterback I mean all over the country the top programs are getting better and better and better and that's why Clemson's dropped out of the top five preseason like they've been in every single year and now they're in kind of 15ish and maybe they'll probably be right there for the ACC but it's just it's it's really silly and I think it's just um I think at the end of the game ultimately it's just Georgia's going to be a better team um but it's just going to be another one of Clemson fans are going to turn around and go see we we could really add somebody we could use somebody we could add they could have they could have maybe gotten etn who knows you know his brother went there maybe they could have explored that what a one-two punch they would have with the current back that they have so it's just it's so silly that it needs to just happen for Clemson and that it's frustrating for their fans yeah JD and then you look at the fact that hey when is the last time you went to a CFB playup oh I know 2020 so how's that working for you yeah yeah like like BG mentioned this is it's dumb and for him to kind of just stand down on this and and put it and draw a line and say you know what I'm not gonna do that you know I was like yeah man you better be glad you got those natties you know national championships under your belt because guess what no coach with not having a national championship is will be able to say I'm not going to the transfer portter because when you think about all the talent that's in there and all and because you're losing guys too here's the thing if he was able to keep his roster like like Kirby Kirby Smart mentioned like if he was able to keep his roster and not have any transfers yeah I I can understand that you can if you draw if you got the magic potion saying hey man know how you feel not getting playing time and he's talking to his guys and he's keeping all those guys in house that's not happening he's loost I think he lost like 12 or 13 guys in the transfer Port portal this year so when you think about it from that aspect of it you're not doing what you're supposed to do from a roster construction standpoint and Kirby even mentioned something that that really stood out to me in that quote he said like we don't necessarily cross that PA cross paths hardly anymore on on the recruiting Trail why right isn't isn't Kirby going after the best players in the country shouldn't Clon be able to go over go after the best players in the country like they like they were able to shoot falca got multiple guys from Clemson up under there so that understands the level of talent that they used to recruit so now it's a reason why like like BG mentioned they're falling out of of the top 10 and and recruiting Because dbo Sweeny is the problem he's the issue and until he looks within himself and saying you know what I need to get back to doing what I do yeah he gonna continue to fall and he gonna continue to get himself in a place where he might be looking at being out of the job now it might be trending down for Davos Sweeny but trending up for 15 can he take everyone else on the ride up with him we'll go between the hedges to discuss tired was pretty comfortable with Carson last year to be honest with you his ability to execute and understand what defenses are trying to do it's more about can he Elevate the people around him can he make them better so what do you feel Carson can do to make his teammates play at a higher level I think getting the ball out on on time is is going to really benefit him because when you think about you know bringing back guys back like Dylan Bell and Dominic love it and you know and then you bringing your new guys and Kobe young and London humpr and Michael Jackson I thir so when you have putting essentially replacing a good number of your production from last year the previous year but you still have some type of semblance of a relationship with some of those guys I I feel like getting the ball out on time and making sure that you're doing what you're supposed to do and getting the ball in your playmaker's hands is going to benefit them the most now if you combine that with figuring out we talked about the running back room and how it could be thin maybe may or may not be thin you know going going into this game against Clemson I feel like establishing yourself on the run in game I know that's not necessarily what his fault or that can be his responsibility but I think you coupling that with him getting the ball out on time and and executing the offense from in the passing game and you roll that roll that into that running game I feel like you're gonna be they're G to be in a really good space because if they are able to combine those two elements I feel Clemson is g to be in a really bad space because that offense is a little shaky in my eyes I don't I don't trust K cnick you know I feel like he's a guy that can turn the ball on in in opportune moment so um and I feel like Clemson defense can hold up but if you get into a space where you got a two-way go on offense it can get real ugly for for for Clemson uh on on Saturday at noon and you know Bri I think Jarvis makes a great point about what Carson Beck can do even in that first game to establish hey this is how I want to take this offense to the next level in my second year as qb1 so what do you see as some of the things or one of the things that Carson can do to help this offense go to the next level for ug yeah Jarvis made a good point of saying like hey get get him ball on time but I also think it's about getting them the ball early in this game like settle in some nerves for some of the guys who and even guys that have been there like you know get Dom lovet involved in that first couple plays like you know get the ball to Oscar Del or one of those tight ends like settle everybody down maybe it's a little swing pass we know Bobo's going to throw a screen sometime on the first drive too so that's going to happen as well but it's I I think it's just getting it out quick like I think this the simpler the game plan the better uh initially here because the offensive line has has a great matchup against this defensive line this isn't your typical Stout Clemson defensive line of years past they've got some good players on there but they're not like what they've been over the last five six seven even 10 years or most of dabo's runs so I think that idea is going to be pretty big and it's also like let Beck go you know I I think I know Jarvis talked about you know maybe establishing the run so I'll be curious to see what the offensive philosophy is in this game early on because it's almost like come out in that first 15 like go after it let back Let it Loose I'm not saying don't don't hand the ball off at all but come out with the idea of let let him sling like if he's got 10 or 15 attempts in the first quarter like that's what it that's what it should be and that's what it's going to be and I think that that'll settle everybody and have him going because going into last season even though Kirby made that comment about feeling comfortable he did sort of have the training wheels on Beck early on and I don't think that's going to happen at all come Saturday in Atlanta and that's probably why you saw him in the season with granted almost 4,000 yards but 24 touchdowns there's an uptick that can go there just six interceptions so that's a good look but yeah I think if you kind of establish him and let him know that although we're rbu we really also want you to go after it and get after it I think that would be a good look for him and then that offense gets to follow so now now time for our favorite moment of the show The Mikel moment Kirby Smart responded we need need a Sounder for that right responded to a question on Michael attacking the position change and said quote he's not really at a new position he worked last year at outside linebacker in an individual period and he worked with the defensive line those two are like a mirror he can cover and play people one of the best most rewarding quality ities is his rush and we want him to be able to rush so for for you JD what else makes Michel that versatile um I think I think just him I I think the only thing holding him back is himself because a lot of times when when expectations come you know being in being in that Sport and you know and understanding like what that looks like you know whether it be from the the in the in self and what self wants to be able to do and then you got people who are looking at your talents and evaluating your talents and saying man you should be doing this so and I think sometimes those don't necessarily align so I feel like the only thing that's holding Michel back is is Michel Williams Because yeah if he's able to you know just lock in like like from the from a coaching standpoint they are putting him in the best position to succeed right because yeah okay yeah he could cover but I don't care nothing about Mel Williams dropping in coverage put him on outside linebacker in the two-point stands and go to work I think that's that's that's where he's going to make his money and if he's doing that oh this Georgia defense is gonna be something to watch this year because I feel like Kirby understands that and I think I know Michael understands that so if if if he can just lock in and say hey man I want to be able to beat this man in front of me that tackle will not be able to block me on every each and every Saturday I don't care what type of ECT that you are oh man the sky is a limit for this kid yeah uh I I just want to see him too like I want to see him line up on both sides and I I want I want him to see and like like Jarvis said in that two-point stance I almost want to see him roam a little bit more like make him that concern for the offense like you have to know where he is at all times not that he's just going to be in this one spot is he gonna be standing up is he going to be in coverage is he going to be coming down now again to Jarvis's point I want to see him up on that line a little bit more we get that you can cover that's nice that's neat we appreciate that but I want to see I want to see hell let him rush from the interior on one or two plays as well like give him that opportunity to go from all different spots and work on different people because I think he has that capability to do so and one thing about this this matchup and and this game too is this Clemson offensive line is good like they they've got three guys that have been there for for a long time they got a lot of experience they got a good offensive line coach Matt Luke who used to be at Georgia a couple years back so um this is going to be a really good test for him and I hope they I hope they get the chance to unleash him and uh maybe it's a second half up a couple scores where he can really pin his ear back uh and were just talking about we were talking about a little bit earlier and the downhill style of their running back Phil mafa so what for you is the biggest threat Georgia has to prepare for for Clemson or in other words Clemson beats Georgia if what yeah I mean k kubik's gonna gonna have to play a really like hell of a ball game in this one I think the way that they win though Clemson is if they take an old school almost like a Kirby Smart game plan from five years ago approach in terms of this offensive line controlling the clock maybe like limiting the possessions for Georgia and then hope hopefully getting a turnover or two not that they have to play it necessarily that slow of a game but I think that's the way that they're going to be able to do it is if they have long sustained drives with moving the ball on the ground um with again with this offensive line because that's one of the things last last year it wasn't necessarily a weakness for Georgia the run defense just wasn't as absolutely Elite as it been in years past uh the couple years going back before that because um the the defense just wasn't at that level and I know I know that would that's going to be an emphasis for Kirby coming in we want to get back to being one of the best if not the best at stopping the run against everybody in the country so I think for Clemson if they're able to run the ball control the clock limit the possessions for Georgia that's going to be their best path to Victory Jaris Clemson beats Georgia if if they can able to convert on third downs and get off the field you know against Georgia offense because I know Georgia was the best in the country in both of those categories so if they are getting Georgia out of their element as far as being be able to get off the field you know on third downs and convert third Downs if cave kutnick is out there making converting third down passes on Third and seven and third and eight like that is the Bulldogs might be in trouble so I feel like if they're getting Georgia out of their own element you know being able to sustain drives you know and also being able to um you know get off the field on third down I feel like that's the only way I feel like the cson would be able to do it because taking the air out of the ball like like BG mentioned I feel like Dab's probably coming into this game saying hey if we can get a win 10 to three like the Bulldogs got in 2021 oh he will take that and and take that to the bank for sure exactly and what about you JD conversely Georgia beats Clemson if well I I'm I'm kind of on on the on same boat with with BG when he talked about it earlier in the Pod he was talking about how L and Carson B do his thing I really feel like he needs to be able to make a statement I feel like this a statement game for for Carson B because you know weal we talked about the preseason Heisman hype and there have been some Rumblings that Georgia is potentially gonna financially back that push that you know we when the last time we seen that if ever you know when you talk about a Heisman candidate right start and really pushing that towards that so I feel like Carson Beck if he can have let this be like his coming out party oh man Georgia is going to roll this team I I feel like seriously yeah like and second in what Jarvis had said like let let Beck do his thing and and Bobo too right this is year two for BoBo I I know he gets a lot of criticism and he's a really good play caller but he needs to be get to the point where he's great to to reach what Georgia has been in the past and I think having a full off season under this system and now two full years or excuse me stepping into that second full year with Bobo same quarterback same OC this is where offenses on any level this is where they really get humming and heading in that right direction exactly and to drivers's point on on on the back with the with the Heisman ho you want this is their one big game until Alabama later in September right because this is like georg's going to be on the stage it's the first game it's 12 o'clock everyone's going to be watching and then no one's going to check in on any Georgia game until September 28th when they play at Alabama it's going to be Texas and Michigan it's going to be Oregon like all these other games are going to be going on so go ahead and get your guy out there in front make sure when they're doing the scoreboard updates at 4:30 in the afternoon on Saturday it's okay Georgia won by two touchdowns Beck went for 303 or four you know and then it's okay here we go and all the Heisman odds change and all that um I think it will be like that too I I think that's what this team wants to do and and how they want to approach it and like we talked about with the running backs and where they're at with rodri Robinson potentially etn sitting this is a let Beck do his thing go go go get it you know let Beck cook all right guys in today's get off my lawn moment Simpson coach Davos Sweeney will not take live calls from fans his weekly Radio Show in 2024 instead fans will now submit questions to Sweeney via text an email that the coach can answer now
