this is Memorial Stadium located in gorgeous Lawrence Kansas the Mercury will stay low today in this game between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Kansas j-hawks and here come the [Applause] j-hawks yes it's the battle for the Governor's Cup that's right hi again everybody I'm Brad nestler along with Lee Corso and KK her street and we are thrilled to bring you this college football rivalry oh yeah absolutely I think you're exactly right about this Kansas State doesn't fear any passing attack and the main reason for that is their great Corner not only is he great in coverage guys but he has no Pro I agree with you I'm going to thank you guys the team captains are on the field and this game is about to get underway we'll see how these two teams play in this game as they prepare for the opening kickoff short kick he didn't get a hold of that one number 24 takes at the [Applause] 14 they'll go to work at the 27 yd line number nine comes to the line with three wide and this offense is having a difficult time doing anything at the line of scrimmage nice play fake throws it to the outside the ball is tipped I tell you what Kirk if that receiver doesn't get more aggressive this defense is going to be knocking the balls down all game long you're absolutely right that was a heads up play by the corner but it would have never happened if the receiver would have come back to the ball instead of waiting for it to fall into his lap this sellout crowd is really making a difference now as these guys can't even call the play they'll drop him for a loss Derk they really had nothing going on that run I'll tell you what Brad it's almost like he ran into a brick wall on that play it looks like this defense has put up some very impressive numbers thus far I'll tell you why they're fast they're strong and they tackle well that combination needs one thing for the offenses nightmare they've been playing great football all year you're lucky if you can even get past the 50 let alone find The End Zone gain of 28 on the play [Applause] first and 10 ball in the 48 on the 48 yd line Kansas State comes to the line only one man in the back field they go with a toss he's gobbled up in the back field they stretched him out and he ended up having nowhere to go anytime you see the safety making the tackle behind the line of scrimmage it's time for the the Old playaction Post pattern for six it's second down and 10 to go this is the fifth play of this drive number 21 alone in the back field they keep it on the ground with a tail back and he's tackled three yds there on the play yd gain on the play so another third down up coming for the offense Kansas State goes with the ASAP here he drops back throws this one out to the right picks it off not a good decision there why'd he even throw that P well it's a good job by the corner sitting back and reading the quarterback's eyes good job of disguising coverage as well this quarterback is a gamer he comes to play every game number seven with three wide receivers on the ground with the tail back that's four yds on the play gain of four on the play second and six ball on the 22 yd line Y number 30 lines up as a single back they keep it on the ground with the tail back and they make the stop they get five yds on the play y gain on the play it's third down and a yard for the first down ball in the 27 yd line on the ground with the tail back bounces off there would be tackler they'll bring him down short gain there by the halfback for the first down here's where the offense stands compared to the rest of the nation yeah they sure are struggling when they have the ball nothing good seems to happen when they're on offense again he'll get the call he's on the Run brought down a nice run there and another first down and this was a delayed handoff to the tail back and as you can see he knows exactly how to handle it once he gets his hands on the ball also Kirk you got to give the offensive coordinator a lot of credit a nice call there counter play and he's taken down three yds there on the play number 30 on the run three yd gain second and seven this is the sixth play of this drive ball on the 50 yd line number seven comes to the line with three wide inside G and they make the stop they call his number and he carries for six yds on the defense will try to stop this third down as they were unsuccessful the first time on this drive Kansas comes to the line with three wide they'll bring him down again they're able to move the sticks on third down and I'm going to tell you what this offense is putting together one impressive drive we'll see if they can finish it off with a score and so we've reach the end of quarter number one and we're all tied up it's first and 10 and this is the eighth play of the drive ball on the 41 yd line number seven with three wide receivers brought down 6yd pickup on the Run gain of six on the play second and four coming up here this is the ninth play of this drive number 30 the lone back they keep it on the ground tail back and they make the stop the running back gets two on the carry two on the play thir they line up for another third down and they've had no problem converting their first two number seven comes to the line with three wide third and short and they hand it off and down he goes and the halfback runs for the first reason that play was successful and simple they got a good push up front all the back had to do was run past that little yellow line right there number seven with three wide receivers they're going to pitch it shed's a tackler and he's taken down he gains a couple of yards on the carry it's second down an eight to go ball in the 28 number 30 is the single setback on the ground with a tail back spins up field well these guys fast or what good job of penetrating and getting to the ball carrier here thir another third down upcoming and they've converted all three this drive number 30 alone in the back field drops back to pass pumps once he's going right and he's tackled he led his wide receiver too far to the outside they just had to pull the string a little bit more there look for them to go to the air here they need this pass steps up in the pocket somehow gets the ball away complete brought down they hold on fourth down now that's how you get a team motivated I wouldn't be surprised to see their offense take the field with an explosive power attack number nine Lins up in the shotgun back the pass he's looking throws it to the outside and got it in complete tackle What A Catch and that's going to give him a first down well that's a big play for the offense but I think the defense needs to play a little bit tighter in the secondary it's first and 10 ball in their own 47 47 yd the Wildcat come out in the Ace formation looks throws this one out to the left and he can't hang on to it INE number two the intended receiver on the play second and 10 ball on the 47 47 yd they're really struggling now as this crowd is going absolutely insane he drop it back he steps up looking here they come lets it fly and it falls incomplete the tail back the intended target well here the quarterback put just a little bit too much on the ball and over threw third down and 10 coming up ball on the 47 yd line the wild cat come out in the shotgun drops back to pass steps up throws short it's deflected nice job getting a hand on that one yeah really good heads up play there to get a hand on the football by the defense it's fourth down now and we'll see the punt team he punts this one high in the air fumble number 86 with a recovery it's first and 10 ball in the 23 three yd line the Wildcat come out in the Ace formation on the ground with a tail back got an opening and he's taken down Kansas State takes a [Music] [Applause] timeout they line up in the red zone for the first time today oh nice play fake Looks To the End Zone makes a catch in the end zone touchdown he fired it out to his wide receiver who made the grab and got the score when this guy's got time to throw he makes the defense pay and he hits the pat less than a minute remains in the second quarter and our score is Kansas state seven Kansas nothing everyone's all lined up and ready for the kickoff kicks it off number 10 takes it from the six he spins around the offense heads out onto the field on their last series they opted to try and convert a fourth down and they came up short first and 10 ball in the 22 first and 10 number seven comes to the line with three wide they'll throw on first down got it across Midfield at the 40 they'll bring him down Kansas hauls a [Music] timeout it's first and 10 ball on the 35 yd line going with the shotgun here High snap as he works from the gun picked off and this could be a big return at the 40 and they'll return this one all the way touchdown K State and that turnover is got to hurt yeah they wanted to rack up some points before they have to help her out sorry it didn't work and he TS on the extra point less than a minute remains in the second quarter and our score is Kansas state 14 Kansas nothing everyone's all lined up and ready for the kickoff we should have a return on this one number 10 Fields it at the seven the defense B about as far back as you can that last series before getting the interception hey a defense can do somersaults or even a triple South cows just as as long as they keep the offense out of the end zone did you just say s yep I dated one back in college man cuz she could they'll throw on first down lets it go it falls incomplete couldn't complete that one to his halfback he just needed a little less air under it second and 10 ball on the 24 yd L the Hawks come out showing three wide he drops back steps up in the pocket he's looking he's under some heat he's going right and got it complete and to get a few yards on that little reception check it out he ran a good route on this play and the timing of the pass was good and they were able to get a nice gain third down and a yard ball on the 33 yd line The Jayhawks set up in the gun back to Pat looks wants to go long and does and he got it so on third down they pick up the first and a lot more when that kid caught the ball he wasn't thinking about first down he was thinking touchdown they line up in the red zone for the first time today on the ground with a tail back and they got him for a loss and we've reached halftime here the score at the break Kansas State 14 can Kansas State got the ball to start the game so they'll be kicking off to start the second half decent kick looks to be [Applause] returnable number 82 takes it at the 16 first and 10 ball in the 16 Kansas takes a timeout it's first and 10 ball on the 16 yd line Kansas state lines up with three receivers they'll throw on first down down the middle and that one's Fallen incomplete a little too much juice on that one this quarterback sometimes gets a little bit too excited back there and tries to put too much on it he got to relax and just make a good throw their last drip down here was a success let's see if this one will result in another touchdown and it's caught breaks one touchdown K snate the quarterback threw a pretty ball there for the touchdown but don't forget about the catch the receiver made one heck of a grab [Applause] too and he hits the Pat and now we'll take a look at the Pontiac Drive [Music] summary number 15 ready to kick kicks it off number 10 has it at the five time once again for this offense to come back out and start another Drive they'll get the ball here at the 23 first and 10 number 30 the lone back they'll throw on first down ball and that pass Falls incomplete because it was deflected that's great defense right there Brad that's something the coaches always remind their players to do get a hand up in the face of the quarterback drops back to pass wants to throw outside and they couldn't hook up on that one wow that pass had some velocity Kirk well I think here the quarterback panicked a little bit and rifled it as hard as he could third down and 10 coming up ball on the 23 yd line Kansas State brings in their nickel P he steps up looking good protection he unloads it it's deflected that's going to bring up a fourth down and guys I don't know about you but this quarterback looks a little rattled out there a little man this guy's complete well he better get everything figured out because another off game like this and people will be talking about a quarterback controversy he drops back steps up he's looking under pressure throws it to the outside someone got a hand on they elected to go for it and fail and it's tough to come back when you give your opponent good field position like that excellent field position to start the drive the wild cat come out in the Ace formation they'll throw on first down he pumps once looks he's under pressure down the middle it's Dro that one's just too hot to handle yeah the quarterback might want to think about taking a little bit off his passes in those situations it's second down and 10 to go ball in the 23 single set back field on the ground with the tail back and down he goes for maybe five yds On The Run 5 yd gain on the play Third and five ball on the 18 yd line Y the offense got six the last time they were inside the 20 let's see what they do here back to pass wants to throw outside couldn't haul it in almost a nice catch this is a missed opportunity here the receiver got his hands on the ball but couldn't quite Pull It in 18 yd number 15 is lined up for the kick for the field the kick is up and he hooked it left they'll set up shot at the 20 [Music] Kansas goes with the ace set here he's looking down the middle got it he ignores the footsteps and makes the catch first down what a pass boy that was a big time throw by the quarterback he did a good job of taking what the defense gives him first and 10 ball on the 43 yd line number seven with three wide receivers he's in trouble across the middle incomplete he had to get rid of that one in a hurry the defensive coordinator cooked up a good Blitz package that time and although it didn't result in the sack it forced a bad throw Kansas lines up with three receivers on the ground with a tail back tackle and that one goes for a big big first down you know every time you run the ball successfully like that the defense starts to creep up a little bit that's when you go to the air my friend the Hawks line up with three wide again with a carry and he's tackled for maybe five yds On The Run it's second down and five to go ball on the 38 number 30 lines up as a single back setting up the play action across the middle got it and they tackle him and he hauled that one in for a first down well that's a big time play did an excellent job there of getting separation from the defender and he's able to pull down that pass for quite a few yards they're back in the Red Zone where they have really struggled lately they go with the Run touchdown and it ain't over yet he's scurried through the defense that time and found the end zone [Applause] and he hits the p8 so here's the Pontiac drive summ to recap what just [Applause] happened H it the kick he kicks it number two takes it the 21 their kicker missed the field goal attempt the last time this offense had it let's see what happens this time around they'll start this drive at the 33 High formation here on the ground the tail back and down he goes the halfback runs for four yds gain on the play second and Six coming up here ball on the 37 yd line very BL Kansas State comes out in the shotgun they keep it on the ground with a tail back and they make the stop that's a three- yd pickup on the run three yd gain on the play it's third down and three to go ball on the 40 yd line yine Hy brings in the nickel here they hand it off broke away from one brought down and they get a nice gain on third down remember we talked to the coach and he mentioned that he wanted to run the ball against this defense and he felt that he may have some success will they've had some success on that play So that brings us to the end of the quarter and at the end of three our score Kansas State 21 Kansas seven first and 10 ball right around Midfield y Kansas State sets up in the eye little hand off and he's taken down they gained five yards there five yd gain on the play it's second down and five to go ball on the 45 yd line number 21 lines up in the Deep back eye formation they hand off on the counter tackle and they continue to pound it out on the ground tick tick tick continue to MK that clock so another third down upcoming for the offense Kansas state will line up in a jumbo set here the Wildcats come to the line with their jumbo [Applause] package hand off to the fullback got some open field brought down I think this offensive line is getting better and better as the game goes along and Coach I'll tell you what I think they're killing the will of this defense and I don't think they're done just yet Kansas lines up in a dime defense here on the ground up the middle and they make the stop a 5yd gain with the carry 5yd gain on the play second and five coming up here here ball in the 31 yine Kansas comes out defensively with six defensive backs fullback on the inside G and he's
