season I don't know what they're going to do in the future whether they'll just put me back in a water tank for the S hi jie hi Charles welcome to the Hindu thank you very much for thanks for having us right I'll start with this you know the entire thing's been building up to this epocal moment right like the manipulation of celar v saon it sets the entire universe pretty much into motion uh turmoil right yeah suckers talk to us about you know digging into this you know this this most dramatic most psychologically thrilling aspect you know of of the show it's been a real Joy I think because it's it's such a big part of the Tolen mythology of this age right as you say it is a story that I guess influences the whole where the show is going where the show's come from it it's kind of it's the first Big Dot point that we're ticking off on the list of things that have to happen in the show and I think that just made us super excited to tell the story if there was a huge Boulder sitting at the top of a hill we're just doing that oh yeah starting to gather momentum as it destroys everything in its part rolls forever right yeah no I mean we've both been very much looking forward to to um um telling this story and shooting it and we had a really good time doing so it's very exciting has your friendship deepened over the course of two seasons and I want to know how that affect scene work you know to be familiar with each other to know you know what makes each other tick how does that improve scene work and how has it you know made the experience better for both of you definitely yeah I think we both we both approach it in a very kind of um is lowkey the right way ease there's an ease to it and um not lowkey as in you know lazy or anything like that we're both very uh um um both sort of I would imagine you know quite perfectionist about what we try and do of course we are very detailed we've done all our work etc etc yeah um but there's an ease of working together which I think both served served us both really well yeah and um and we you know we've ALS as a cast we've spent a lot of time together it's been 5 years now right yeah yeah which is extraordinary to think sitting here but but there was kind of from the beginning we kind of realized that there was a real understanding between us and it was just quite as ease is the right word it was it was a it was very challenging the work was very difficult and um but it was equally exciting and I think the ease of the working environment meant that we could really play and explore and um yeah I think tell a really cool story yeah and we had time we were afforded time to do that which which is quite rare unusual um but we was our story is essentially just between the two of us in this in this one set right and um you know we would get we had plenty of time to rehearse and to to get it exactly the way everybody wanted it and then maybe try something else and so it was a really really great few months really good shall tell me this you know swon is this really outside epic villain all that stuff but you know when you're playing him at at the stage that he is in you know there's a need to humanize him or if that's not the correct word but just show The Human Side of him and to root him in a more intimate way in the audience's mind I think yeah yeah is that what you are going for thisas definitely I mean and you're right in questioning the word humanizing because he's a he's a demigod right but I think we're humans so we can only see things through human perspective and I can only tell his story through the filter of humanity because I'm not a God I'm I'm a human yet yet um but yeah so I I wanted to bring the level of complexity to him that is present in what Tolen wrote about him and that's the thing it's not a tokenistic um portrayal in the sense that like I'm just want to bring some something three-dimensional to him for the sake of it but like talking was very detailed in the way he wrote about Sauron during this time period and saying a lot about his desire to heal and reorder Middle Earth and for me that the whole character comes from that and I think any the sort of 3D side of him that you get all comes from that part of his Personality yeah in my head I have this like a twisted spin-off where two of you are like like almost like a buddy com right like like a Breaking Bad kind of thing like are we cooking Rings or what that be great well yeah I mean the thing is we've made all the Rings now there's more there's more Adventures to be had yeah I guess there are maybe that could be like a spin-off that like runs alongside rings of power would we be neighbors in a small town yeah yeah small town a small village in the Southlands L every time you went out the house you'd have to be how brand cuz you couldn't you couldn't have the public knowing no no yeah too famous far too famous sorry there could be a BB nearby and you guys could hang out a BB B although you'd be very he'd be very wealthy Kell bmbo like you would have a big house in the village and I would maybe maybe I'm your lodger or something yeah there could be a big house I'd live in the big house then there'd be a long drive then there'd be a lodge at the Bott of the drive like an out house maybe you could do some stuff around the G yeah the G yeah this makes sense yeah we were ping this yeah yeah great great Gardens of power guys the word epic gets tossed around you know with anything remotely to do with the franchise but personally what was that one moment during the production of the two seasons where the epicness of the show really hit you I think for me it was um there are many moments like that because anytime we do anything to do with the show you're reminded of how big the show is um but it's maybe an obvious one but the first day on set um when you when I stepped on set and saw how many people it took what same was it it was me and Rob uh playing elrond in the Hall of Heroes and the with the trees oh and I think I was talking to him about the fading saying we need to do something about the fading nice um it's not looking good and uh yeah and I was just very nervous very scared yeah Charlie for you uh I think I mean again like Charlie said there's been so many but I'm always in I'm always in the water I'm always like for some reason every season I don't know what they're going to do in the future whether they'll just put me back in a water tank for the sake of it um you have a huge bath in your yeah s just having a massive bath in in Mordor um yeah it's each time the scale of like the water stuff the waterwork underwater um scuba so many divers around scuba div huge wave machines yeah it's been um it's always that kind of the resources of the show which which blow me away right every time I hear about the water and and the stunts and the I I always think I do none of that I'm not involved about that or not oh I'm quite happy about that but those big epic fights you you guys on the underwater you know I'm just pottering away in my for with my elf friends yeah anyway great thank you so much
