LORI PEREZ IS LIFE TONIGHT WHERE THE CREWS ARE MAKING SOME MAJOR PROGRESS. >> THIS HAS BEEN A HECK OF A FIRE GETTING AS CLOSE TO HOME AS IT CAN GET WITHOUT ACTUALLY CATCHING ANY OF THE HOUSES ON FIRE YOU CAN SEE BEHIND ME THE GROUPS OF CREWS ARE WRAPPING UP AFTER HAVING BEEN STATIONED ALL OVER THESE FONTANA NEIGHBORHOODS CONTINUING TO WATCH. >> I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE CASH BUT GET THE CASH AND PAPERWORK. >> FIRE CREWS LY LINED THE HILLE SUNDAY AS AIR SUPPORT TACKLED MORE REMOTE AREAS TOGETHER WORKING TO KEEP A GROWING WILDFIRE IN THE WILD AND AWAY FROM CLUSTERS OF HOMES AND BUSINESSES BELOW. MORE THAN ONE HOMEOWNER TOLD US THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS WILDFIRES BURNED ON THIS PART OF THE HILLS. THEY HAD A FRONT ROW SEAT. THOSE CLOSEST TO THE NEIGHBOR'S HOME CONTINUED TO GO UP THE HILL. EXCELLENT RESPONSE, EXCELLENT JOB. THE TAXPAYERS DOLLARS WENT TO WORK. >> THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE WHEN IT FIRST STARTED JUST BEFORE 2:30 SUNDAY. 1 ACRE RAPIDLY SPREAD UPHILL. THE SAME FAMILY HAD FIRE CREWS WATCHING THEIR BACKS AND BACKYARD. >> EVERYBODY WAS SCARED WATCHING WHAT WAS GOING ON. IT WAS DANGEROUS. MORE THAN 200 FIREFIGHTERS IN RIVERSIDE COUNTY FIRE ARE BATTLING THE FLAMES. FIREFIGHTERS TOLD US THEY STARTED CONTROLLED BURNS TO HELP DIRECT THE FIRE AWAY FROM NEIGHBORHOODS AND IT WORKED. BY EARLY EVENING ROUGHLY 350 ACRES BURNED UP WITH NO STRUCTURES. >> IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR WE ARE DEALING WITH THE FUEL SO THE ANNUAL GRASSES WITH THE HIGH TEMPERATURES AND JUST A LITTLE BIT OF WIND GIVES US THE FIRE THAT IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME RUNS. IT WAS VERY HOT OUT TODAY. TO FIREFIGHTERS DID GO TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES BUT WE ARE TOLD THEY WILL BE OKAY. LORI PEREZ.
