It is probably best to not consider Grady Sizemore to be the Chicago White Sox manager next season

should the interim tag be lifted off of Grady seore if the white socks Play Better Baseball the rest of the season let's discuss next unlock on white sock you are locked on white socks your daily lockon White Sox also follow or subscribe to the show wherever you get your podcast well another Sun colum from USA today's Bob night Andale is out with a couple of white socks nuggets in it and one piece of information is that the club will consider giving Grady seis Moore the manager job next season depending on how the team finishes I'll discuss if that's a good idea or not in the first segment and it's been a while since I've done a good and a bad from a series but there was a mix of both in that Houston series that is worth discussing in the second segment and finally it is Monday that means a minor league Monday report MLB pipeline updated the socks top 30 prospects I'll discuss how the updated list provides hope but some worry this episode is brought to you by prize picks the easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports go to price.com lockon MLB and use code all lowercase lockdown MLB for a first deposit match up to $100 okay Grady seore should only be considered for the manager job permanently if the Socks win six weeks worth of games or in the interview process Chris gets is getting Vibes that all the candidates are going to be like pedrick or fall someone who can point out the flaws but is clearly just a good interview then seore hey he's a good plan B and that is what Grady is right now a good backup option but in a pivotal point in a pivotal point in franchise history history you should be not hiring the backup plan I agree with Chris grass's assessment to go outside the organization and preferably a person when that has no ties to the franchise however gets cannot make the same mistake as predecessor did and pick an outside guy who was overwhelmed and unprepared to do the job like rickan did with pedrick gall uh excuse me one moment gets has to hire someone who understands what is wrong with the franchise and have a vision and a plan to get things turned around and execute it Pedro knew what was wrong with the team he just didn't have much of a vision to get things turned around and he wasn't able to execute any plan I do like how seis Moore comes from outside the organization but I prefer getting a coach who comes from say the Dodgers the Rays the Brewers you know I don't mind the Diamondbacks organization I just don't think the style of baseball they play you know more of a contact and defense team plays well to Guaranteed Rate field obviously you want to play good defense but you got to hit the long ball when you're playing at the rate also the club should be trying to avoid hiring a transition manager uh to draw a parallel they should be hiring their version of Luke Richardson you know love him or hate him on the Blackhawks he was hired with the belief that he will Coach the team through the rebuild and then be the coach once the competitive window opens Seymore seems more like Derek King to me you know good interim Skipper but more destined to be an apprentice for the next head coach that's not to say seore is not an intriguing candidate I love how outside of just two games the team has been competitive players have already reportedly love how he's a former player one second uh sorry for those watching on YouTube watching me cough um I picked up co uh at Disney World so I'm battling again sorry if I sound nasly you know I'm I'm starting to get functional that's why I'm able to record today but yeah uh had a great trip you know it was a lot of fun my daughter loved meeting all the Disney Princesses and stuff stuff but we all picked up covid and uh it's just been a recovery process this weekend so anyways the players reportedly love how seore is a former player so he can actually speak with authority obviously uh the bench coach has already helped seore establish a culture of you just don't flush a loss use that as your competitive Advantage you know so I like how he is the almost the complete opposite of Pedra fall you know he's a guy who played the game so when he says something the players can understand that hey he's been in the an actual Major League batters box he's coming from a place of authority because he had a pretty solid career even though seore had a lot of injuries if I recall I think he made a couple all-star teams too and I think seore checks a lot of boxes I just think there are better candidates that's why to me he's the backup plan and you should not be hiring your backup plan to run the organization because hopefully you're competitive by 2027 you know I know there are mixed feelings about schacher but the two things that make him the most ideal candidate are one he's won the NL manager of the year and made the playoffs with a dysfunctional franchise and two that might be enough clout for him to come in and help G uh gets usher in more organizational change that socks machine.com James Fegan wrote so well about on August 13th go back and check that out however I believe there's going to be a bidding war for Schumacher and the socks never win so who do you pivot to well Terry Francona he's the best best choice but the future Hall of Famer is going to want money and he's probably not going to want a shadow GM and Tony larus around so that's a pipe dream uh the Athletics John Greenberg he put out a list Miguel Cairo was listed only because Tony might have a lot of influence on the next hire and Cairo was his bench coach and he did he didn't do too badly in 2022 as the interim manager and going with grafal over Cairo might be a cautionary tale to not ignore seis Moore and not ignore what he does over the final few weeks but still Cairo might be a better candidate than seis Moore you also got Clayton mcof and Danny Leman from the Dodgers those are good candidates that was on Greenberg's list I also saw that um on cbssports.com Houston's hitting coach Troy Snicker one moment please he's an interesting candidate that was brought up by Greenberg as uh you know he's Houston's hitting coach and as you saw they they hit pretty well against the socks except for on Sunday and against crer crochet but they scored uh you know a total of 12 runs against the socks and Houston's always had a decent hitting approach he's also uh I believe the son of uh brt Sni Snicker from the Braves uh Jeff banister he's an Arizona coach with ties to GM Josh Barfield so if you're going to go with the Arizona ties maybe you might want to go with a guy who used used to be a manager I still like Willie Harris even though he is within the socks family but remember his ties are only as a player to the organization he did briefly I think uh managed their like rookie ball when rookie ball was around but otherwise he's only been a player with the socks organization and that was 19 years ago and that was the last time the socks were actually the Envy of the league so you know high energy guy he's been around the Braves as a player coach with the Giants and the Reds before coming to the Cubs and I know it's the dreaded Cubs but we're talking about the World Series hero and Willie Harris again sorry for those on YouTube watching me hack up along at least I'm hitting the mute button um but he's you know been with other organizations he's experienced winning you know at least he can bring an outside perspective and he can bring the perspective of I got a World Series ring I can help establish this team back to being a winner and he's very positive in the clubhouse but I can understand if the socks want to be like you know what we just want a clean break um CBS Sports listed Freddy Gonzalez as a possible candidate you know former manager of the Braves they also listed out uh Ricky weeks Jr of the Brewers uh problem is former big leager is viewed as a coach and waiting for them and then John marosi pointed out John Gibbons who is get's final manager he's with the Mets got managing experience tigers's pitching coach Chris feder he can fit in to the sock strength of pitching obviously you got Azie Gan Jr out there and AJ pinski but I don't think they'll be considered but the names that I just listed show there are plenty of really good candidates that make more sense to go that route and have have seore be part of the next staff well the socks will not you know the socks still have not won a series under seore you know that that might be concerning it would be nice to see them you know maybe win a series to prove that maybe he does deserve the job and has now been 13 straight series defeats there were plenty of bad but some good to discuss and let's discuss that next on lock on White Sox prize wherever you get your podcast all right so the first thing to report uh from what happened over the weekend is the white socks have been officially eliminated officially eliminated from the playoffs I mean it was clear that they weren't going to make the playoffs on say April 18th but it's official August 18th that they are not going to make the playoffs second Luis Robert Jr well he's not out of his struggles yet despite showing signs on Friday he was but at least Friday showed why he still had some trade value in the offseason excuse me one second again everybody I appreciate you hanging with me as I uh deal with this illness here um third Dominick Fletcher at least defensively he is a stud uh and then going with a veteran such as Tommy fam who don't get me wrong loved the guy but since the return for him wasn't much wasted a lot of time on getting an accurate assessment on Fletcher and maybe it was the manager but I'll uh get to Fletcher in just a bit as he had a great defensive series uh the fourth key takeaway is I know I'm sounding like a broken record but Chris flexen should not be getting any more starts it makes no sense and why is John brebbia still still on this team I don't know flexen was gosh awful on Saturday and then is sandwiched in between a great start from gar crochet on Friday night and a good start by rookie uh Kai Bush on Sunday and again the defense was truly awful in the two defeats you know again how did the Socks win on Friday scored five runs they uh did allow the Astros to get four runs um but which is you know usually have to keep them under three but still found a way to win with five runs they got decent defense solid pitching Saturday they were completely non-competitive as they made two errors flexing gave up a ton of runs and then yesterday they just could not get any offense going but Luis Robert Jr looked like he was about to break out of his slump on Friday he went five for uh four for five with two home runs and four RB and the socks five to four Victory and this is the version of LRG we have rarely seen the season but when he is on he is capable of winning a game by himself which he practically did then he went one for eight the rest of the series and N Gale reports the socks still want to move him in the off season and you might be thinking the socks will not gly get nearly enough value in return for his talent because of how inconsistent he is he's hitting 209 with a 682 Ops and 14 home runs he is a05 FW player with an 87 WRC plus obviously all his numbers are clearly down from 2023 but Friday is a game that gets can point to when he's on the phone with other Executives and say the talent is still there he just needs to change the scenery and I'm starting to get to that point of being prot trade lrj the man looks like he has lost he is battling trying to come overcome all this losing and I agree with the detractors that a lot of days he does look like he would rather be any place else besides playing center field the Chicago White Socks but the thing is his numbers are down and while Friday again showed how tremendously talented he is that's all he's been right now he's had one good season otherwise he's either inconsistent or he's hurt and uh you know games like Friday other reason you'd love to keep them but that inconsistency that potential injury I do think in the offseason that the socks are going to have to really explore cashing out on uh Luis Robert Jr although just don't get someone like uh you know what they got for fetty fam and copc uh Dominick Fletcher he's struggling to hit but man he can make a ton of web gems he helped out uh Kai bus yesterday by robbing a potential three-run Homer in the first inning his defense has been uh Stellar especially in this series and um Scott murkin he uh quoted this uh po uh he put this quote on uh Twitter from uh Grady seism more at Scott murkin Seymore on Fletcher in right field quote he's a gangster out there he's fun to watch just another great performance from him I love having him out there he's a GameChanger on the defensive side he's been swinging good but I but I'm going to keep him out there I just like his game all around end quote and yet the socks demoted him after he struggled in the first three weeks of the season and they went with Tommy fam and I love how herb Lawrence from chg Sports put this out at ekner wall 23 the way that Dominic Fletcher is playing right now is the main reason I was um pord uh that the uh hash White Sox gave Tommy F all that playing time could have gotten 140 plus games of experience for him instead of a fruitless fam stint and again I love Tommy fam but it was fruitless since he was packaged in that terrible three team trade uh at the deadline the socks literally wasted precious evaluation time on Fletcher a guy that they traded a 21y old pitcher for just so they could showcase fam when it was clear his value was going to be nothing more than a lottery ticket Prospect like it was last season and obviously Fletcher needs to start hitting to back up his stud defensive status and he is a stud defensively I mean this guy can catch practically everything and I feel really comfortable with him and Luis Robert Jr now in the Outfield but if he can't hit he's this rebuilds version of Adam angle and you wonder would he have been hitting had he gotten you know major leue at bats because I know he got off to that I think it was 083 start so obviously there was some concern there but he's a 25y old guy that you traded a premium asset for and he did Slash 263 333 389 at Triple A this year when he was demoted and all that part of the return that you got with Tommy fam you know William Vargas and those uh two uh minor Leaguers from the Dodgers yeah William Vargas he went 0 for six in this series with a walk he's hitting 183 with a 682 Ops that trade deadline deal keeps looking worse and worse by the day and you got a guy with who's High upside in Alberta but he's got a broken leg uh the other guy that that you got uh Perez he's showing some potential but he is years and years away years from helping out speaking of somebody who should no longer be helping you out Chris flexen he should actually be DFA since Tuki Tuan can do what flexen is doing just not as bad backing up crochet because you need somebody to obviously back up crochet he's only going to be throwing uh four Innings the rest of the year and he had a good outing on Friday just gave up a run was nice to see him bounce back after a couple of less than Stellar outings he's had recently but flexing on Saturday he gave up four runs on seven hits and four Innings of work he's rarely going deep into games anymore you know yeah he he didn't give up any runs in his prior start against the Cubs but he also through 78 pitches through four Innings got crushed against the twins he keeps being what you and I know gets into trouble and then you got to cross your fingers that he can limit that he can limit the damage and he's not been doing that well lately and nothing has gained from that you know what would be gained see what Mason Adams can do something's gained there just like Kai Bush getting starts something is gained even if he walks eight batters there's something gained it's part of the learning experience it's part of the evaluation and he actually didn't walk a ton of batters like his past two outings yesterday only three walks a lot of Home Run otherwise was very good and he keeps finding ways to limit the damage and if Drew Thorp comes back from the iil to pitch this season I don't want to see Chris flexon make another start again I don't even want to see him make another start right now give me Mason Adams give me Jake Eder give me somebody that we can evaluate that's gonna potentially help the team down the road the same with breia pitching another inning of Bel gave up uh the insurance run and seems like he just keeps giving up runs so let's get somebody from Triple A up here so we can get an evaluation can they help next season speaking of the minors it is Monday so that means a minor league Monday update next on lock on White Soxs all right you've heard us talk a lot about FanDuel America's number one sports book well we have something a little different for you now through September second all FanDuel welcome back into lockdown White Sox I am your host Todd Welter thank you for sticking with me this long especially through this episode as I said in the first segment um had a great trip to Disney World hopefully you guys enjoyed uh the fan series but I had a great trip but started to not feel great you know and then realized uh when we got home took a covid test and I tested positive for covid my daughter then my wife eventually so very sick household this has been the summer of sickness for me you know especially if you've been with me every single day you've noticed you know I had the ear infection I this has just been a terrible summer and then add in the white socks have been absolutely terrible so a programming note for this week's uh ont Sports Nets uh bnck Zari or zeri I'm gonna have to get his uh pronunciation I'm sorry for bushing his name he's gonna be on Thursday to go over the last couple of weeks of all the happenings within the white socks uh Nick morowski former host here and host of good guys talk back uh he'll be on Friday to discuss more about the manager search and then Eliza Evans of Future Socks and just baseball uh he'll be on next Wednesday to discuss uh he took a recent trip to Charlotte and Canapolis uh so the minor league Monday report will actually be a Wednesday report next week now getting into the minor leagues I know MLB pipeline has its drawbacks but it's free so it's the one I use most often uh they just updated their teams farm system rankings and there's some great news for us socks fans there's also some uh bad news the good news is excuse me uh the socks farm system is just outside the top 10 and they have the two best left Ted pitching prospects in all of baseball bad news is you should be concerned with how far a former first round pick like Jacob Gonzales and a promising player uh picked up in the Dylan CE deal like Samuel zabala or Jake Eder who's picked up in the Jake Burger deal have fallen in the rankings also uh the rise in rankings shows just how bad the socks were at drafting in in the international free agent Market as they had to go to other teams to upgrade their farm system all right so the socks now have the number 11 Prospect system and all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline on to start of the year the club was considered to have the 20th best system according to MLB pipeline here's what Jim Callis Sam dyra and Jonathan Mayo had to say the socks the white socks are enduring a dismal season in the majors but their farm system has improved from 26 entering 2023 to the cusp of the top 10 thanks to two promising drafts and a series of Veterans for Prospect deals 20 of the prospects on their top 30 have joined the organization since the start of last year with the not the notable exceptions of 2022 first-rounder Schultz and the 2021 first-rounder Montgomery Chicago is tied with the marins for the second most R prospects 11 one behind the Rays acquired in trades but is tied for last with the Athletics with just two via the international market so there is Chatter according to Fagan if you're worried about like hey the socks are just terrible in the international market and they are you know yolki Cespedes was a disaster F of a signing you know they really have not had uh any real good International signing since probably Luis Robert Jr and again that's inconsistent Brian Ramos might show some hope and some promise as the third baseman but I'll get to him in a second but um really they've been terrible in the international market but uh Fagan um on his um August 13th update did say that the socks are going to try to update their free agent their International free agent scouting and why is that important oh you need it after you know if you to cover gaps in your drafts if you miss on somebody or again in your in your system like say you can't develop a second baseman go to the international market it's a great way to pick up pictures and the stocks have just been terrible in that area and think about that prior to you know the 2023 draft you know where that you know it seems like pipeline is now giving them their credit and their due they were a terrible drafting team I mean Mike Shirley just took over in 2020 and he only had a limited amount that year 2021 obviously get Schultz um hopefully we get some more guys in here but his predecessor Nick Hoffler left the left the cupboard dry that obviously the socks had to make a bunch of Trades last year and this year to you know replenish the stock the socks have four players in the upd at top 100 Noah Schultz is at number 15 and he is considered the top Southpaw pitching Prospect according to pipeline kulsa Montgomery drops to 28th first round pick higen Smith debuts at number 32 and he's considered the second best Lefty Prospect and catcher Edgar quo uh he Edgar Koo is at UH 60 he's he's 63rd now SI Smith has been assigned to high a winom Salem I believe he's going to start next Saturday or this Saturday uh Carol though he's battling a back injury by the way so get well soon and let's just hope that this is a small minor injury because you don't want to have back problems especially for a guy who's supposed to be a catcher but man the socks have a chance for a monster starting rotation and a bullpen on the cheap and years of control and that's where you get the Hope isn't there pitching and then Carol he gives me hope because man the guy can rake and he's got the chance to be that foundational player but again let's just make sure this back problem is minor terms of the new Top 10 Prospects for the socks it goes Schultz Montgomery Smith Carol and then double a pitcher hyro iriarte single a pitcher Grant T Grant Taylor now Taylor still in the I with some arm issues uh single a outfielder George walal Brooks Baldwin he's at number eight however if he keeps playing at the big league level he'll eventually gra graduate triaa pitcher Mason Adams is number nine and Kai bush is number 10 so who fell out of the top 10 uh Brian Ramos he's now 13 however I wouldn't be too concerned about his drop because we kind of know what he needs to work on he showed you know some promise in his brief call up he's just gotta be able to drive the ball I would be worried though about Jacob Gonzalez dropping down to number 12 and he's been struggling at Double A 238 292 325 slash line over his past 10 games excuse me um this is a guy who's already been passed by Baldwin and this year's second pick Caleb bum in the rankings in terms of shortstop and second base and the book on Gonzalez was he was more of a floor guy with a low ceiling and he's been struggling to hit and that's looking like it might be a wasted first round pick uh still you know has to work out some of his issues at least he's facing adversity and that's kind of the the spin right now with Coulson Montgomery and his drop is he he's facing adversity it's like these guys have got to start hitting if they're supposed to be the future Samuel zala drops all the way down to number 17 as he continues to struggle at high a Winston Salem slash line of 193 347 311 so the op is still promising but man he has struggled to hit and he was you know he was in the top 10 Jake Eder dropped all the way down to number 23 I don't think he was in the top 10 but that's still a pretty significant fall um and it is a great look when Jake burer is mashing the ball however the socks have so many lefties that if Eder can or eer can turn into a reliable saltpa of the pen that at least make the deal somewhat acceptable all right that wraps up this edition of lockdown white socks thank you for making lockdown White Sox your first listen today now go check out the lockdown MLB podcast prepare for
