for your next Plumbing HVAC or electrical job and get fast shipping from coast to coast at supplyhouse.com well Grady seore is rumored that he will be considered to have the interim tag removed depending on the how the team finishes my guest former host of this show and co-host of good guys talk back Nick morowski thinks that is a bad idea and him and I will also discuss who the next manager should be and the socks cutting ticket prices on season tickets for 2025 and Nick why should Grady not have the interum tag removed it's shocking to me that I even have to explain it um Grady seore I'm sure is a terribly nice guy I think he's well respected by players because he wore the uniform uh unlike Pedro Graal uh who had you know an impressive baseball resume but never played in the MLB great has so I think he has got the ear of certain players especially uh guys like sheets and and they've come out and said things that have led me to believe that he commands more respect than Pedro ever did but uh here's a guy that's going to be learning on the Fly uh he you know hadn't been a coach before and you know you looked into the yearbook uh at the beginning of 2024 and his name simply underneath his name it said MLB coach uh I don't really know exactly what he did I'm sure he knew what he did uh and I think he wants to learn but I don't believe this is a situation for him to uh be be learning on the job this is a critical time for the Chicago White Socks uh you know there's a lot of young guys a lot of development I I think you need somebody in this role uh that has has gone through it before is is weathered not necessarily uh has been a manager but has definitely been on the coaching side and has been around the game in that type of capacity to handle not only the personalities but you know and stomach some probably some pretty difficult Seasons that are coming up for the socks yeah I mean to me he seems like a plan b or a plan C kind of as we were talking about before I hit record um you know I I think the idea of them down the road is great but I I drew the parallel on the last uh I think it was Monday show I kind of want to draw the parallel to the Chicago Blackhawks where they hired Luke Richardson or yeah they hire Richardson to basically not only get them through the rebuild but then they want him to be there when they're hoisting the cup and I think with seore if you gave if you remove the interim teag all you're doing is just being like here take these losses for the next two years yeah you know here here we are in the uh what was it the one-year anniversary of the Rick Han and Kenny Williams firings and we and we really thought that I I I think we thought for a moment like there could be some some serious change and and what happened of course what you know Jerry tends to do looks from within promotes Chris gets without any real search made excuses about how well if I went outside of the organization it would take that person at least a year to be caught up to speed and and here we are get saying things over the last six to seven months that have that feel of I'm still trying to to get caught up to speed you know you can't expect a miracle so to speak uh and and that's one of the reasons why I was so against having a a firsttime GM that was going to go through this process sell off some critical assets and and we need key pieces that we can't miss on and and there's more to come this off season of course with potentially crochet and Robert Jr but he's learning how to be a manager or a GM and he's trying to learn how to hand these these interactions with seasoned GMS that are looking him at him um you know kind of like a little kid like I'll give you whatever scraps I have you're not going to push me around I've been in this for a while so there's multiple things that he's trying to learn so I at some point I think it is an organization and I and I say that knowing fully well who's still at the top you know it's Jerry at some point you got to say we got to act serious here we have got to figure out a way you know to stop this chain of events to stop you know the cycle that we kep keep getting ourselves in uh and worst case scenario you bring in some candidates and and you pick their brain and you're getting Intel from the opposition you know a a a search a serious search absolutely has to happen yeah I mean for example you know we'll get into the candidates in the next segment but but you know I I agree with you you already have a GM that's learning on the job and that got taken to school I mean he basically got taken to school in that Dodgers and Cardinals deal uh the last thing you want is a manager then that's also learning on the job and especially being you know mentored by like Doug sisen who don't get me wrong love the guy's attitude about hey we're not gonna flush things down the toilet you know like Pedro but he's not exactly the guy you want mentoring Grady seism more um what if the socks do have an improbable winning stretch the rest of the season would that change your mind on seore I don't think it would change my mind as maybe they should get really give him an interview you know talk to him you know flesh that out a little bit more uh it can't hurt to to if they haven't already had those conversations about the future uh maybe keep him around even in in a bench coach uh capability you know that that's wonderful keep him in the system if you really like him you know he he showed you something here uh but I I still I think I would be cautious about uh him all of a sudden even if they get on it and this is a stretch Todd you know even if they get on like a four game or five game winning streak which seems improbable uh I I would be you know cautious it it feels like and you know again he's what three and eight is is coming in as the interm role there was some excitement after that Yankees double digit uh win and you know uh uh obviously he's gotten three R wins quicker than Pedro did I think Pedro started three and 22 this season so uh 2024 has looked kindly on Grady but I I don't think that's at all that's like Miguel Cairo effect to me that that's the you know you get that Spike that little you're in the honeymoon phase and this is something different and guys are maybe playing you know but at the end of the day all that kind of evens out and I I still think you know a guy that maybe is kept around in the organization sure but I don't believe should be a serious managerial contender in this in this in this stage here for the white socks yeah it almost feels like they kind of did this backwards I mean I know they had to find somebody to be an intro manager because my my gut is they probably asked Charlie Montoya and he was like uh you're gonna pay me a little bit more like it almost feels like you should have gone with somebody else and then say Grady seore is the bench coach or like what the Brewers are doing up north and I mentioned the Brewers so drink uh but you know Ricky weeks he's the associate manager he is the basically the manager in waiting but they realized he's not ready so we're going to get Pat Murphy you know a guy who is a veteran college coach but he never coach at the major league level um as a manager and look at what they're getting right there I I just feel like they did this thing completely backwards um un you know unless they really do feel like seore is going to be the guy that will help them hoist a World Series trophy but who knows when that's going to happen you know yeah there so you could make an argument for seis more because of the way the organization does things and he'd definitely be on the cheap uh he's somebody that doesn't expect a long-term contract you know two or three years which is going to be some really lean years for the Chicago White Soxs and and maybe they are looking for a very player friendly manager that you know is not going to ruffle feathers he's not going to bark B uh bark back he is going to know his place Jerry's going to be able to keep him under his thumb Chris gats is going to be able to keep him in check uh because he doesn't have an ego he doesn't have a resume uh as a manager um and again did I mention he would come cheap uh that that that is a very white socks thing to do I just I want to get them I wish they could get out of that cycle um and then there was an article in Crane's business uh crane Chicago business just a day or so ago that D Dan McGrath starting to make a case for Grady seore or Scott murkin had a blurb with Jim Tomy the legend Jim Tomy singing seis more Praises so when you start hearing those types of things you can kind of connect the dots and you know is this Jerry trying to you know trickle this information out so we warm up to it as fans I don't know but um it wouldn't it wouldn't surprise me that that's the sad part yeah we all know how Jerry also thinks managers are interchangeable he just doesn't want to have to pay them to do nothing Well Nick's going to stick around for a full show so let's discuss who he thinks should be the manager next season after the on YouTube and Nick where can we always find your great content you find it absolutely everywhere but on Twitter X nicktv all right Nick who would you like to see the socks hire as the next manager it's such a loaded question um I have uh tried to answer this multiple times probably going back at the beginning of the season when you just knew that pedri gal wasn't going to make it I I can make an app I can make an argument for oigan now people are going to roll their eyes they're GNA probably they've already clicked off and and left this podcast right now because it does it does really get fans there's some fans that just absolutely no way I never want to revisit it been there done that and the only argument I'm going to make is if this team is going to be rough to watch and they're going to be difficult in 2025 and 2026 I as a fan just want to have some fun and and I think it would be fun just have him in the Dugout his post game you know is epic anniversary of the' 05 World Series team coming up for me as a fan and I know I'm going to be watching some miserable B miserable baseball I I just want to see that excitement again for nostalgic purposes will it happen probably not even close there's not even a a chance that it's going to it's going to happen um you you never know but you know highly unlikely so then then you've got a situation of like former managers that are out there that you've heard these names like Buck show Walter or Gibbons that's now the uh Mets bench coach I think there's a relationship there with gats uh schacher you know I've heard his name from Miami doesn't really do much for me um part of me wouldn't mind if they went inhouse and looked at a guy like Santos who's having some success in the farm system uh you're going to see a lot of those guys moving up to the big league club uh they they sing his Praises he's got a lot of respect for what he's doing down there and you know it's you're you're tracked almost you're with these players in in in double A and they're moving up uh at a fairly rapid Pace especially in 2025 and you're going to be there kind of coaching and continuing the development process and again he'll be an inexperienced MLB manager won't command a lot of money and that could be some sort of program of you know you're here for two to three years you know that and you know then we're going to bring in the finishing piece if there is such a thing uh a a guy that in this vein that I'm really intrigued about and I don't know why it hasn't happened uh he he turned down you know an interview I believe with Cleveland after Frank H left he's had stins with the Chicago White Socks he's been a longtime baseball coach he been with the Cleveland system for a long time and I'd love to get an insight into some of the things that Cleveland does you know I've I've heard wonderful things from how their Executives run things and and the Machine that they've kind of built uh in Cleveland and how to how they continue to to end up with success despite not spending uh the money Sandy Alamar Jr is really a guy like that is really intriguing to me I I don't know if he's come out and publicly said you know he has no interest in managing and taking that on in his life right now if he's very comfortable you know being the first base coach the longtime first base coach but you know catchers make good managers I think he was a smart baseball mind when he was here with the socks he was here I believe in his last s in ' 04 which was guan's first year you know mentoring I think he sorry to interrupt I think he was on manual staff after he retired there there you go you know and so I I feel like if you if they haven't had him in or if you know again I don't he might they might have asked him and he might have said no I don't I don't know exactly it's just odd that he hasn't taken a managerial job he's been an interim with Cleveland you know he's filled in during I think some of Frank kona's health issues but someone like that is really interested interesting to me but you know again It ultimately it comes down and I have this I I keep going in a cycle with this Tod is could Gatson company even identify the next great manager would they be able to even figure that out do they even know that do they have the ability could they attract them could that person actually want to come to Chicago and all the situations that they have and the limitations financially and would Jerry pay them you know those are all unfortunately issu so when I go when I when I ask myself those questions again it's it's funny it's ridiculous maybe it's moronic however you want to look at it uh maybe it's just a big you know meatball take Gan Guan wants the position right like he might be one of the few people that'll take it and then maybe he takes it you know uh at a discount I don't know just to stay who knows what's happening with the TV situation moving forward are they retaining Chuck and Azie how's that going to work uh again it it's it's kind for me I would love to see him back in the Dugout I know a lot of people have no interest in revisiting it and it and it creates a lot of uh unrest with fans and they just kind of blow me off but I would have some fun with it is it the smartest thing ever probably not but it just kind of makes me chuckle to have him back in the Dugout well hey after watching this team be so bad but not of that not be entertaining I'll take entertainment I mean even as on yesterday's show I said one of the reasons why I missed Jake Burger now is because I'd love to see him hit home runs on the South Side so you know I I think when you present it that way I see your point uh with Azie G but I just I think with um Chris get saying that they kind of want to go outside the organization and bring in um somebody with a fresh perspective I I think that's what's going to disqualify him but I think you make a great Point okay if you're gonna go outside the organization are you going to be able to sit in that interview and say not only is this guy a good interview but he's not gonna be pedrick a fall because how I heard it shake out from secondhand was Pedro just out interviewed Azie the last time that's all he was and yeah he could tell them what was wrong with the socks from the other side of the Dugout but he had no plan he had no vision to implement it that's what they need to find they need to find somebody that can say yes this is wrong this is wrong this is wrong this is what you're doing wrong here's my vision here's my solution here's how we're going to play baseball and here's how we're going to go uh but when they say skip schoemer do you think they're going to be even able to outbid other teams because I have a feeling other teams are going to want him because he's got that NL manager of the year on his on his resume yeah that that's a so it sounds like he's gonna opt out of you know his 2025 deal and you know the Miami Marlins are not having a good season you know he does have that manager manager of the Year award on his resume so the socks aren't going to be the only team looking for for a manager and he might flat out look at our organization like maybe asot did with Houston and said no thanks you know you you don't have the infrastructure you don't have you the Intel you don't you don't have the bells and whistles that I need to run a team the way I want to run a team and you know let's be honest good players make good managers I don't see you going after the premier free agents what's your plan are you just waiting for all these young guys to come up and develop like you did the last rebuild and you're not going to put any serious money into this thing uh that's a tough sell I might want to go somewhere else where they're really serious you know and they're going to play at the top of the free agency and they've got some superstars that are locked up yeah I mean the Seattle Mariners now have just joined the manager Market they just fired uh Scott service um but Nick is a former season ticket holder the socks are about to slash ticket prices let's discuss what that does start a four game series with their division rival the Detroit Tigers tonight first pitch is at 7:10 p.m. Central Standard Time catch every pitch of the White Sox Hometown broadcast with sirusxm on the sxm app search White Sox welcome back into the lock down White Sox I am your host Todd Welter shout out to all those every dayers you'll always remember Nick former host before me and uh Nick you've obviously you were a former season ticket holder you've you know well documented talked about why you gave up your season tickets um but the socks are going to cut uh their season tickets by 10% um is that the appropriate response for this terrible season well I think 10% is is not enough um you know I I I think you could you put yourself in so many different Camp so to speak uh when it comes to season tickets you know there's some that I know uh are going to reup no matter what you know uh that's just something that they do you know they maybe they're in it with a few other people and uh this is what we love to do we love going to games it's uh it's it's not a huge commitment we don't mind the parking we don't mind the commute all that kind of stuff it's going to happen so okay you're gonna give me a 10% discount for something I'm already going to do thank you uh you know I think there's there's some folks that are you know on the fence absolutely uh after this year why wouldn't you be after the last several years do I really want to invest and I don't know that that's up to somebody you know that's up to your own you know thought process if 10% is really gonna move the needle um and then there's so there's folks that are trying to maybe think about getting into season tickets you know that they have not had them before and and do I really want to invest I I I don't know the direction of this team you know I I I got into season tickets the uh right after soxfest 2017 and I listened to Renteria talk I obviously witnessed everything that happened in the offseason with Chris Sale being moved and manad and copc coming over and and the the farm that they've started to built and more assets you know uh to to give away in the season and I and I loved what I heard they had a plan they had a direction I really fool I foolishly I guess bought into it uh when this team is ready to spend they will have the money to spend look at the free agency classes that are coming up the pieces that they're going to be able to put together on this it's going to be exciting I want to get in um I want to be there you know when they are going deep into the playoffs year after year so so I did and I was a season ticket older for seven years and the last few years of my run it it just felt like there was a disconnect between you know uh how they were treating season ticket holders I just felt like they really fell off and and it and it was a just you know why question just give us your money you know you're going to do it anyway uh a lot the little perks and you know intricacies that came with being a season ticket holder were were long gone and so if I were to think about it right now there's no way that 10% at all um gets me excited and I don't know how season ticket holders have been treated uh this year I have heard some things and and I don't think it's wowing anybody uh but I don't have any feelings like I did in 2017 I don't I'm not blown away with what happened at the trade deadline and um I'm a little despondent about what could happen with crochet and Robert Jr the lack of Direction the lack of plan I'm I'm not ready to invest at all and and a 10% discount does absolutely nothing for me and and how it's presented by Boer and and basically telling us that the next few years are going to be rough we're not going to invest much money at all into this team because they would not be giving any discounts if they had a a feeling that there was going to be a serious plan in the offseason of playing at the top of the free agency market uh there's a lot of questions you know TV deal labor situations in a couple years I I don't see the sockss probably spending a lot of money if they're ever going to spend any serious money for a while so you know that's a it's a gesture it's definitely a gesture by the socks I don't think it's uh nearly enough at all to get me excited and and I am curious to hear about you know people who you know what their take uh on it is uh in terms of being a current season ticket holder or somebody that's you know brand new looking at get into it yeah I mean I I think it's just throwing a bone because I think you make a great Point nobody knows what this Revenue situation is going to be for the socks with the uh new um TV channel that they're going to put out you know I think Jerry is being delusional and thinking that he's gonna be able to cash in on uh a network you know yeah he'll have the Blackhawks and the Bulls to help prop him up but I don't you know with court cutting I don't know if he's going to be able to have the people there that are going to be Savvy enough to get him this this cash Hall where you know yeah you can cut 10% I mean obviously you needed to cut ticket prices with how bad you are but man you are definitely signaling that we are definitely not going to be spending a ton of money because we're going to take 10% basically off our books right off the bat you know so I agree with you well that wraps up this edition of lockdown White Sox thank you for making lockdown White Sox your first listen today now go check out the lockdown MLB podcast prepare
