Aloha Welcome To Paradise AA Hawai just outside of Honolulu and the home of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors a tremendous setting and a spectacular game that we have in store there's nothing quite like a great rivalry matchup in college football the bitterness the intensity the lifetime of memories that will come as a result of what we're about to see in this one as will'll see a squad from the Mountain West the San Jose State Spartans taking on a fellow Mountain West F the Hawaii Rainbow Warrior 4A sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here in the booth by David P and Jesse Palmer guys let's get this thing started on the run from inside own five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 so San Jose State offense will get the first crack at it here there are always butterflies to start a game and when you have a rivalry like this the adrenaline is pumping on overdrive guys they aren't all the same we say that but we know differently the blood is boiling the temperature is hot Jesse you want this week more than most yeah David we've played in these games before everything just seems to be heightened right the game seems to be moving faster the crowd noise feels louder your compos will be tested early in a game like this does need a few inches on this opening drive to pick up a first down and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chain and I think on that last run play on third down here early in the game they're making a statement that we believe we're the more physical team and we're going to run the football even if you know it's coming at you nice job they've got the ball at Midfield I expect to see more one plays coming up might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again you want to make sure to maximize those types of runs and he gets it out to the 41 they have had to wear that beat down since the last time these two met Jesse they've been talking about it for a long time they were absolutely embarrassed the players the coaches the fans you know they've been coming into this game this time they want to put out a much better performance oh there's nothing worse the coaches are you all week leading up into this game reminding you showing the Clips in the locker room you know you failed you want to come out and get a great start in this football game early hey nice job by the offense there attacking the middle of the field excellent route finding the soft spot in the defense nice job by the quarterback putting it right on his guy and that big gerain on the last one has him ready to go from inside the 10 a first down run on the doorstep draged down at the six after a pick up of two now the offense tries to punch it in on second and goal the run up the middle trying to power to the goal line he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer huge play in the Red Zone Third and goal coming up pressure coming fires into the end zone can't make the grab as is looking for his man right at the goal line they'll play it safe and try for three and this will be a short one from about 21 yd out it's good and the first points of the day come on that field goal I know one thing this head coach does every week is he challenges his guys to start fast and it's so important today playing on the road in this kind of environment you saw a nice drive they didn't get the touchdown they would have loved but still kicking that field goal taking early lead that's a statement for the visiting team after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away here he comes from inside his [Applause] own so Hawaii offense has the ball for the first time and there's no doubt guys we will be focused on these two star Playmakers on the outside I'm curious to see how much man coverage we're going to see today I don't know if either of these defenses is confident enough to go monoo with these two dudes on the field they're two of the best in the nation these quarterbacks aren't looking for manto covers I promise you like give me some help over here we're going to see some we going to see more catches who more yards we definitely going to be breaking that down this game [Music] he had the perfect play to open the drive and now they'll snap it again from the [Applause] 38 to the ground he's got it again the biggest lie college football coaches tell is nameless faceless opponent David game like this you know their name and you know their face you know them well and it does mean just a little bit more because it's bragging right like the rivalries matter so much all throughout the all the fans talking about this game in particular that's why it means more and that's why these players will be jacked out of their minds didn't have much of a choice just had to throw that one away it'll be fourth down the Rainbow Warriors will try to pin them back with the punt first time we've seen their punt team this afternoon fair catch called for and made guys this San Jose State offense trying to get this ball moving always good to get points on a drive David Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area we got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long trying to have a big completion here caught over the middle it's Miller and not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the Stop and the Sparkles will bring the punt team onto the field and I love the discipline on defense right there big third down so everyone keeping their eyes on the quarterback rallying to the ball making a tackle great team defense they'll start this drive and snap it from the 40 off the play fake on first down using the quick game really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down and the Rainbow Warriors headed quickly to the line that was a really nice catch and an even better run after the grab yeah and get the ball to your playmaker what's good about having him in the slot is he can go either direction you can get him matched up on somebody that's not as fast and you watch he can run away from those linebackers or S on the run it's shager makes his connection really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down they pick up the first down on the drag route good job by the receiver knowing it was man coverage if he's looking he's booking he gave his quarterback the eyes right away that says hey I'm not stopping put it out in front of me I'm getting this first down on second down they'll take to the air a shot for the endone and that one is Right On Target if his Target was the first row went up top on second down that leaves him needing a yard here on third down they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one no movement from the field goal unit the offense is out there to try to keep this drive alive on fourth down Rainbow Warriors pick up the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs how nice is it to have a running back with this guy's skill set right that's not a guarantee gim me fourth down either but still they trust in him to find the crease and keep this drive alive going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down gets it out fast touchdown Warrior want to catch and one for six and what did I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting into Rhythm nice start for this offense [Music] on to attempt the try extra [Applause] point and the extra point is good and it's a fourpoint lead so that's a 59 yd touchdown Drive here's the return from inside is 10 nice job executing all of the asence as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the San Jose State offense is back on the field last time David it was one two three kick that last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this def on their HS yeah and you see some quarterbacks who hesitate to throw the ball over the middle I love it when you attack the whole field and the middle of the field and being able to throw over linebackers and between safeties is a big skill but show that defense you will attack everyone he'll run it from the gun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 Brown will throw it sags it over the middle and there might have been trouble if they hadn't gotten to him immediately if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum third and long and he'll try to throw for it a strike downfield all the way down to the 2 yd line they move the sck first down hard work pays off Guys these offenses work so hard weend weak out working on those critical down and distances third downs and having that conversion this early in the game that's got to feel good for this offense the Spartans in the hurry up the give on the inside he has the first and still on his feet he'll get that one all the way down to the four yd line before he stopped this defense might be reeling after those last two and now facing first and goal he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two now on second and goal trying to barge in and he'll find The End Zone touchdown San Jose State San Jose follow the blocker the offensive will take you to the Hallelujah land and tell what most of the time Reese it requires a little bit of skill to find that hole and you know Slither through a little crack that was not a crack that was wide open didn't take a lot of vision because the blocking was outstanding they'll try to add another to their [Applause] lead and the extra point puts him up by a field goal they marched 79 yd on the drive and finish to deal with the short touch run from the two from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Hawaii offense returns to the field boy David D would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm move the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right now that's the end of the quarter San Jose State is on top one period in the books and let's take a look at the stats lots of time left and we're ready to get back to it and open the second period they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here got his man in the middle they make the stop with the sweet P catches plenty to give him a first down and the Rainbow Warriors come to the line with a fresh set of downs looking down field it's shager throws to the wide out working that left side and they don't drag him down until he gets all the way to the 46 yd line [Music] he wants to throw quick strike complete and the ball spped down defense just cradling that fumble and securing it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back forto man that's a big mistake and listen I'm still going to force feed my Playmakers if I'm that quarterback I'm that OC I'm walking over to that guy be like listen it's okay it's a little bit of a mistake we're still going to find ways to get you the rock you're too important to this team not to give you the football San Jose state has the ball and ready to go on the attack that last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to change too much Reese they had a great Drive they got the touchdown everything working I would expect him to keep pushing this ball down here and just imagine if they could put another touchdown on the board right here they could capture so much momentum in this game with backto back TDS they bring him down and's to lose a yard on that one they're facing a third down they'll try to get it through the air grabbed over the middle it's Nash nice job to pick up the first down and they'll spot it at the 42 here's this off with a fresh set of [Applause] downs they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one lost one on that last second and 11 from the gun the running back has it knocked down at the 29 yd line picked up 15 y on the play he's got a first down they'll ride the hot hand he gets it across the 25 with the 24 G him five on the carry halfway there on first down it's second and five give to the back and excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pick up before the defense put a stop to it he leaves it with his back works his way down to the 10 yd line after a pick up of three going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone going for six reels it in the end zone down San Jose State timing and better execution that is just what a quarterback in wide receiver need and and it's timing it's route running right you got to be precise you got to know exactly what yard you're running to the quarterback receiver on the same page that's why you get the touchdown lining up to tack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead so that's a 59 yd touchdown drive and they finish it off by connecting from 10 yds out and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Hawaii ready to go back to work on offense they'll try the Run the deficit here is just 10 points David So a chance to answer here plenty of time left in this football G no need to panic this offense just has to put a couple Drives together and listen the defense will get this back and get some stop F and get you the football back and I think I think here too David you have an opportunity to keep the pressure on the opponent yeah they just went down and scored but you score here and this game still tight you keep their feet to the fire so an opportunity here to keep applying that pressure catch in the middle it's Walton and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up the Rainbow Warriors come to the line in the hurry up well look that wasn't a touchdown that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhym what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression looking to throw it's shager tremendous awareness along the sideline ability to get theot down for the big pick up I love how the wide receiver just wasn't amaz because he could have cut that rout short but he knew he had to extend the rout to make sure he got that first down help keep this drive alive second and 10 here he's looking to throw fires left excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down and the Rainbow Warriors come to the line with a new set of downs and this offense has got it all right it's just been tough this defense is on Heels fig out a bunch of plays in a row now a bunch of success this off is doing what they want to do how they want to do defense is going to need to do something throws toward the end zone and it's caught touchdown Hawaii well that score leaves you with a burning question who had that D whoever it was wasn't close and the receiver was able to run right by him and and get to the end zone and camp out and put up his tent and build the fire and fill up the coffee pot and just about everything else in time before the guy decided toose [Music] and with the extra point they close it to a 1714 game so it's an 80 yd drive and they finish things up with a dart from 24 yd out looking for an alley from inside his own 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 power football with defense there to stop him after a gain of one to the 22 didn't get much on first down it's second and n off play action going over the top under toaster coverage got it deep down field huge plays like that can change the complexion of a game and he's got it at the 22 yd line well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game that last big play has them in business just outside the Red Zone it's first and 10 looking to move it through the air makes the catch it's rockart they'll get it down to the 8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall the magic bean is spinning out of control already over 200 yd in the first half yeah they're being aggressive offensively throwing the football trying to take advantage of this defense on the back end they've got their quarterback right now in a group they've moved it forward to the two now it's second and goal and he takes it in for the score touchdown Spartans wow this offense they have a lot of faith in this running back knowing get down into this area of the field he can get it done and he can answer the Bell two rushing touchdowns already for this [Music] offense he'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further a very efficient five Place scoring drive and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the [Applause] two on the move from inside is five b noses his way through and The Return Man is stopped and that'll leave it up to the offense on the next Drive coming out on first down with the play fake shoots it to the left a beautifully placed ball to the outside and the tow drag for the big pick up the Rainbow Warriors are in the hurry up just outstanding execution continuing to work his way back through the football yeah and everything about this route looks verti The Comeback it looks like it's a thinking speed and then he sets it down QB push the ball in the money and he makes the play you know the defense doesn't have an answer for this slot guy right now they may want to think about bracketing him having a Defender play to the outside and to the inside probably some sort of Zone coverage trying to get two bodies forcing the quarterback to have to go somewhere else they'll go right back to the Run they'll wrestling down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the chain to measure this one we've reached the two-minute warning and this thing has been one-sided and they hope to at least have something to feel good about going into halftime he looks that one in nicely he's R out of bounds but enough to move the sticks they'll snap it from the 26 on first down unloads to the wide out touchdown Hawaii made the grab and finish the deal in the end zone and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like The Comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and like passing games rolling we got this to come back in full effect ready to try the point after and the Pat will draw them one point closer so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish the deal with a 26 yd touchdown pass he'll start the return inside is five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 guys this San Jose State offense trying to get this ball moving these two defenses have had their head spinning here in the first half and now we might even see a little more scoring with this drive it's going back and forth this is like two heavyweights just trading blows David what does this defense got to do to get a stop here I tell you what man when you're giving up points like this and you've got no momentum you got to find somebody that can make a play to create some and listen if you're if they're scoring anyways let's be aggressive let's Blitz more let's let's make sure we're making them feel disc comfort in some way shape or form got his man love to see these third down conversions on offense and they're out to their own 39 yd line and the Spartans have it with a first and 10 Brown wants the pass quickly complete and they bring him down quickly but a good gain there second and short now after that completion he'll just keep slinging it and will be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep went up top on second down that leaves him needing a yard here on third down looking to throw for it another incompletion on third down the Spartans will send out the punt unit third and short like that on your own side of the field you're just looking for a quick hitter you're trying to get the ball out of your hand quickly but the timing completely off there for the offense and the ball Falls incomplete cover guys do their job and they get stopped at the 22 yd line Hawaii has it back as they send the offense onto the field so late in the half this is really an opportunity David maybe to swing the momentum in their favor dang right there's no time to be concerned we're a little bit down listen I just think this is a point with the offense that they can prove like we're here we're going to create something now that we can build on the second coach said all week he wanted to be aggressive this is a great opportunity to show that right now at the end of the first half try and generate some momentum score some points before going into half time firing to the right complete and boy is close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming and he'll work his way on the return out to the 35 yd line before he stopped first down for this offense he's looking to throw it going up top oh and he gets down field for the big catch touchdown Spartan and they take it in for six more points that was a lightning fast drive that ends with a touchdown if you can string a few more drives like that together man we might as well get our popcorn out because we're going to get a lot of scoring [Music] lining up to tack one more on that lead and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 that's the kind of Drive everybody loves they'll back one snap put it in the end zone he'll bring it back from inside to spot bringing the heat he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 wide receiver shows motion dropping back it's shager they're working that left side finally run out of bound but he offense rolling with a first down a new set of downs after the completion to the air on first down caught behind the line it's carry a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime fires and picked off oh he was hoping to make out that return but they'll have it first down at the 39 and this ball looks like it just got away from the quarterback I think he made the right decision he was going to the receiver that seemed open but just not very accurate on throw and that leads to the interception offense getting set for first down he's going to pass the short hands it's Nash all the way down to the 25 yd line they move the sticks it's first down the offense waste no time getting the timeout call so with only seconds left in the half here comes the field goal unit splits the upright good and they'll Trot off to the locker room after the field goal to close to half 2 yeah and he's been throwing it all over the yard and he's now over 300 yards on the day so been a successful day now 300 yards I don't know Palmer 300 nowadays that's like what back in the day for you that would have been 500 I would have won the Heisman maybe it's a big deal today in college football no doubt listen he's in a rhythm right now he's in a Groove we've seen good decision making he's been playing on time and he's been deadly accurate throwing it and guess what this game is far from over and the Spartans will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half on the run from inside his own five po through couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 the Hawaii offense returns to the field gets it out quickly he'll move it up to the 37 yd line and it'll be a first down set of downs after that completion for the off it's a draw not aot room there three yard maybe second and seven and the Rainbow Warriors want to pick up the tempo one running back in the back field and he has it hard running there finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down the Rainbow Warriors come to the line with a fresh set of downs looking for a crease it's Sims showing off those sweet Fe as he gets it to the 45 8yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and short the give to the tail back and the Rainbow Warriors get up for the first down and I don't care if I get him by two by 20 by 30 by 4 I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down Mar offense lines up for a first and 10 from the 43 they move the tight end all over out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up after the productive first down play at second and six scanning the field it's shager fires to the wide out down field good job running that route to get past the St because he got nothing after the catch you run those routes those cow routes just like that those DBS are going to break when you go to throw the football so you better put that thing on a line and the QB did there put on the line great job great catch first down solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six to the ground with the back brought to the ground but not before getting up for the first down those little chunks def put in Easy situations Che up four to yard at a pop like that put you in a bad situation as a defensive coordinator what do I call either way priority number one we got to stop the run from the shotgun the inside give and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down operating in the Red Zone here on second down from the gun give on the inside so close to that end zone he can almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense po forward he works his way ever closer all the way down to the one yd line second and goal coming up [Applause] trying to pound it in and he's going to take it to the house touchdown Rainbow Warriors great example of how a second half can really change everything to a team no doubt first half looked bad it looked like it was Bleak it looked like it was ugly but now you're starting to get it turned around that more drives like this is what's needed [Music] the at unit on the field and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer almost ready to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position able to find enough room to get it out across the 25 he's brought down at the 26 going up top on first down fires to the tight end I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field for the quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job Brown will throw [Applause] it working that left side now and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there a but not quite enough for the first down third down coming for this offense nice move to keep moving and he's brought down at the 40 yd line and that'll be a first [Applause] down he wants to throw snagged in the middle it's Stewart really good concept there to get things going and use the tight end early yeah I mean just such a great job on first down setting up an easier second down understanding I don't always have to push the ball down the field but see the tight end make the throw no it's not a big gain it makes life really easy on the on second down all right nothing flashy there he just did what it took to get the first down the Spartans look to keep this drive humming they'll give it to him again they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one lost one on that last one it's second and 11 he has been in SE ball get ball mode all day and he is making his Mark in this rivalry game guys I'll tell you he was sick and tired of reading about and hearing about the offenses coming into this one this guy had his own designs and his own plans he has been balling David all over the field and it's so fun a rivalry game you have so much emotion so much passion with guess what you can let that out on defense and defense you can fly around make plays and he's been doing game been showing them the run now they'll throw it got his Man Down fi and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains it's so nice as a quarterback when you got a guy like that working for you in the slot he has such a good feel to find the Open Spaces in the defense just makes life so much easier for his quarterback and the Spartans have it with a first and 10 out of the gun to give to the back and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making a good run great job finishing with his PS the give to the running back from the shotgun he's got it down to the one yd line right on the doorstep of per the Spartans trying to get a touchdown on first and goal trying to power in and they can't punch it in with a first down run and the defense has one stop can the D deny them on second and goal they're going to run it touchdown San Jose State and they add more to the board with that trip to the house man oh man what a day his third touchdown rushing showing you he's got a little bit of everything and ping those stats and all you fantasy football guys if you have my man at running back that's a good day and now they'll empty the back field for the two-point [Applause] try he's going to be stopped short of the goal line the two-point attempt is no good as they are unable to extend the lead here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Hawaii ready to go back to work on offense he wants to start this drive with a pass can't quite make the connection there might have let him a little too much second down coming up quarterback on the keeper they ripped off seven on that one now a third down and three and this offense just can't afford not to get the first down here already trailing big and the clock is not their friend looking to move the chain they throw it complete to the left put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the chain with the first down when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks doesn't matter what the coverages you saw it right there on they wrestle him to the ground but he's got ready for a first down I tell you what they're down but they're not out with this guy they keep feeding him he keeps having success on the ground maybe I use this now to catapult you some unleashes one deep he makes the catch at the endone touchdown Warrior he has been surgical Precision pass using the sca the fine instrument rather than the blunt one the defense has had absolutely no answer for just he's been down their throats all game long a step ahead understanding what he's seeing and just destroying his defense they'll try to ATT one more on their score and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] drive from inside the 10 here he comes nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the San Jose State offense is back on the field they'll run the RPO and Fire to the right they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover to pick up the first that's the end of the quarter San Jose State is on top three quarters are in the books time becomes a factor both in trying to hold the lead or cut into it as we take a look at the [Applause] stats not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the forth Brown wants the pass gets it away off his back foot and they can't hook up going for the big play on second down now it's third down big tall receiver figure the quarterback has an easy target not this time missed it badly and a lot of those big guys they don't necess some of them do some of them fo shows a lot of those big guys don't run great all the time and you want to get physical and disrup those disrupt that timing you can tell the timing was a little bit off on that one fires to the right he's got an open man defense on skates that time they finally drag him down at the 42 and the Spartans racing to the line in the hurry up he leaves it with the back got enough for the first down and wants more and the defense finally makes the stop after the sweet run and good gain man so nice to have a guy that you can depend on like this offense is built around him for a reason just a a good running back you can see gets north south doesn't dance picks up positive yards breaks tackles he's just a really good player and that's why this offense runs through they'll go to the ground oh what a cut they finally get him on the ground with the big running play moves to change for the first down yeah and if this offense can keep that rolling if they can keep the physical ground game and continue to add these plays up as they go along long drives eat the clock with the lead this coach will be ecstatic looking to pass inside the Red Zone got his man quickly he's down at the one and they almost had the touchdown pass on that one this offense not only has a chance to extend the lead on first and goal but they can also drain the clock and just tried to slam it in from the doorstep but they went nowhere and it'll be marked down at the [Applause] one direct snap and he'll take it in touchdown San Jose State have
