Eastern Michigan Eagles (College Football 25) S1 - Game 5 - EMU vs Kent State

welcome to Kent Ohio and Dick Stadium home to the golden flashes of Kent State and while to some it may seem like a small blip across the college football landscape this place has been the home to Legends like Lambert Edelman James huls and of course s today two teams set the square off in a Max slugfest as we'll see the winners of four straight the Easter michig Eagles taking on a squad hoping to prevent another L this week the Kent State golden flashes for EA Sports college football Rees Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started Eastern Michigan ready to kick it off and get this game going on the run from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 so the golden flashes offense takes the field when your quarterback takes the field you want him to look just like this guy exuding confidence yeah the it Factor he's the man nobody questions it everybody on this team knows they've got his back and he's the leader everybody in this stadium also knows the offense goes as this guy goes he has got to play well today end the pile maybe got one he stopped at the 21 didn't get much on first down it's second and n he'll try to pop the draw they'll knock him down after a 6yd gain to the 27 offensive linemen love when you sneak in draws when you sneak in screens it holds these defensive Lin and accountable you want to rush the quarterback you going to fly up field every single play he'll sneak right behind you and get some yardage finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down the flashes come to the line with a new set of downs and I think on that last run play on third down here early in the game they're making a statement that we believe we're the more physical team we're going to run the football even if you know it's coming at you nice job they got the ball at Midfield I expect to see more run plays coming up after the productive first down play it's second and six picked off going the other way and he's got room he's at the 10 and he's going to take it all the way DOD down Eagles what a play by the defense coming out early in the game on the very first drive and setting the tone not just forcing a three and out not just forcing a punt how about creating a turnover and taking it to the house pick six and the P makes it seven nothing they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six and he hauls it in and everybody's on the edge of their seats and the coverage team gets to returner on the ground guys let's see how it goes this time for the Kent State offense well the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do happen so you've got to be able to turn the page here and leave this offense well I think you know this def going to be aggressive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage from the gun the ground game pushes ahead for two they'll mark it at the 17 and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest trying to move the sticks on third down through the air they'll throw it to the back on the screen he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage and the golden flashes will putt this one away they hoped to get him in space create Running Room and there just wasn't anything there I love the third down aggressive in your face defense not giving you any room to run down the field great job by the defense they saw the throw the Quick Pass reacted to it got him on the ground for a loss so the Eastern Michigan Eagles offense will go to work for the first time today first down for this offense On The Run it's McMillan and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving for the playaction fake he'll pull it down and run at the 35 he's open he works his way inside the 30 down to the 29 and picks up a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs it's a draw he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you know you got to be careful when you're running the draw play because you're hoping those defensive ends get way up the field thinking it's pass didn't happen that time and the defense was able to get a play and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on third down going up top snags it and he will score touchdown Eagles let's see he can block he can catch he can run yeah let's just forget about the blocking for now the catching the running the scoring is dangerous and they do the dirty work but this this is what they would prefer to do these guys want to catch touchdown passes most of these guys were wide receivers in high school and they show you why they'll go up get that football make plays for their quarterback lining up to attack one more onto that lead they fake it pitch it to the tight end he's into the end zone for the two and extends the lead a very efficient five play scoring drive and they it off with a 31 yd toss for six and he's going to bring it out of the end zone I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 guys let's see how it goes this time for the Kent State offense to say this has been a slow start is a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right and the sack all the way back at the five that's the end of the quarter and Eastern Michigan has the lead they came out and jumped on them early in the first let's take a break and look at the first quarter stats now the challenge here they've taken a punch but they can't let it get out of hand as we start the second the first down sack pushes the ball back for this long second down back to throw it's ulatowski fires to the middle it's complete and they're able to get him down I just love the job this offensive line is doing in this game communicating pre snap they know where the pass rush is coming from and they're working their single and double teams and not giving up any ground just look how clean that it was for the quarterback to throw yeah great catch but great read I love the quarterback understanding you're going to see the blitz I'm going to get the ball to my running back quickly let him get the first down nice job by the quarterback seeing that really fast he get him stopped after a gain of four out through the 28 that's a really nice play it's impressive runs first down and the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up you can get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back fires to the tight end they able to get him stopped just shy of the first down marker a nice job by the defense they're tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here we've made our way to the two-minute warning and now they'll try to at least cut a little something off of this lead before the break fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way holds it in looking for space really nice job all the way around got a few blocks made a couple of moves and a good return on that one before he's pushed out of bounds Eastern Michigan has it back as the eagle offense returns to the field Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one dve we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going they'll keep it on the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and the running game has gone in the wrong direction the offense tries to turn it around and go forward on third down and he was able to shed a tackle and pick up the first down before they finally get him on the ground Eastern Michigan has an and a fresh set of downs looking for a gap it's McMillan A most efficient pick up of six on first down it's second and four trying to move them on the counter crosses the 30 he's got away and he'll take it to the house he got loose touchdown Eastern Michigan how efficient have they been as they extend this lead here in week five huge play it's so nice to have guys that can create these explosive plays like this you hand it to him he can do the rest look at the speed look at the elusiveness get into the end zone nice run they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering looking for an alley from inside his own 10 and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next Drive guys let's see how it goes this time for the Kent State offense so late in the half this is really an opportunity David maybe to swing the momentum in their favor dang right there's no time to be conservative we're a little bit down listen I just think this is a point with the offense that they can prove like we're here we're going to create something now that we can build on in the second half coach said all week heed be aggressive this is a great opportunity to show that right now at the end of the first half try and generate some momentum score some points before going into half time and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer on the run it's ulatowski getting some heat all kinds of room to throw that one in there that defense got gas but they finally get him to the turf at the 47 here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half he'll come out throwing on first down that's reeled in it's Garcia and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out that last completion has him set up second and short5 he's looking to throw caught behind the line it's Garcia and there's going to be a loss on that play just run out of bounds and avoiding the contact and it seems to be a lot easier for the quarterback to find this guy than it is for the defense yeah and I think this is a guy Reese that you can split him out you can feel comfortable getting the football as many ways as possible because he is one of those matchup problems linebackers aren't going to be able to run with him so try to find to maximize that little guy's speed and athletic ability and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short oh the attempt is no good and a chance to get the deficit under 20 could not do it it is still a 22-point margin that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update it should come as no surprise that we have ourselves a fun matchup in Kent an entertaining first half and we've got a multi-p possession lead to break down thanks to the surgical Precision of this offense might honestly take more time to talk about what didn't work than what did the running game the passing game Gadget plays have worked now it's just a matter of finishing the job and just like that let's send it back to the fellas at dick Stadium the golden flashes will booted away to start the second half here he comes from inside his own five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 Eastern Michigan takes over as the offense heads to the field this offense has really been clicking in the game so far Jesse no doubt everything their play caller is dialing up these guys offensively have been able to go out and execute D yeah and it's just maintaining the lead keep doing what you've been doing you got a big lead let's just keep piling it on until they find an answer they'll give it to the back runs ahead and Powers his way for four ydd out to the 30 run that play on second down knowing it's going to make Third Down Easy you're not trying to hit a home run you don't need the big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High success rate and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chains the Eagles have it with a first and 10 give to the back they'll wrestle him down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this one after trying the running game let's see if they do it again on second down can't get him to the ground at the 45 on it way tackle was made at the 44 but he picked up 10 yard and enough for a first down Eastern Michigan surgical on offense right now one step WRA twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking for space it's McMill and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down play number seven on this drive and it'll be third and two to the ground to try to pick up the first and excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pick up before the defense put a stop to it no big secret what they're trying to do here they've kept it on the ground it's first and 10 and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup now now down to the 12 yd line it's first down from the gun he leaves it with the back pick up of one it's down at the 11 going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone out of the gun the inside G and they'll finally make the tackle at the three yd line and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making a good run great job finishing with his p touchdown Eastern Michigan and the beat down has ensued follow the block the offensive line will take you to the Hallelujah land and I tell you what most it's a fate the kicker wants to throw it jumped on top of the pile about to kick it away aftering the touchdown takes it inside his own 20 chance for great field position here and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive guys let's see how it goes this time for the Kent State offense we talk about settling for points but sometimes when you have to settle for nothing David it can be demoralizing yeah and it can definitely be frustrating and I think it leads you to say maybe I go for for more but Jesse I think this offense just needs to put another drive together and just finish Stronger Yeah and and be a little bit less predictable too especially as they get close and the defense gets to the quarterback and this offensive Line's got to do a better job and you got to protect your qu listen this offense is not playing great they got to somehow find a way to start to get something together here in this second half flashes decide to pun it away catches it cleanly at the 20 excellent coverage and tackle that time and that's how the third quarter comes to a close that's the end of the quarter and Eastern Michigan has the lead and they've built a comfortable lead after three quarters of play Let's Take a look at how we've gotten here I guess if you're an optimist the stage is set for a massive fourth quarter comeback they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first down they'll keep it on the ground trying to milk the clock he now has 85 yards on the ground and that's just another routine day for this guy who's been among the nation's leaders in rushing all season long eight- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down now on first down from the 43 yd line they go to the ground continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 halfway there on first down it's second and five they'll run it from the gun got enough for the first down and wants more brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down they've crossed Midfield at the 45 with a first and 10 looking for space it's McMillan we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make them onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense he's stopped at the 32 picks up 10 on the play and gets the first down man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning at the 20 he's got space and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the Stop and the Eagles getting set on First and 10 they'll run it it's McMillan and the defense is still fighting they they haven't had the day that they dreamed of you know talking to the coaches coming to the game like they thought they had a good plan they'd be ready to attack and liit of the damage this offense has done they haven't done it today though they got to go back to the drawing board figure some things out cuz this wasn't a great day and if it ain't broke don't fix it just keep running the football everything is going according to plan right now they've been able to stay on the field they put some nice plays together back to back to back and they're bleeding the clock touchdown Eagles and the Ping has started they build this fourth quarter lead and they are just minutes away from going 5 and0 and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead a 70 yd touchdown drive and they capped it off with a Oney pun he'll bring it out not nearly as much as he'd hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 guys let's see how it goes this time for the Kent State offense this got out of hand on them but they'll try to finish with some pride here and this one was a beat down and there's nothing you can do about it because this one's over Jesse now we got to start progressing for next week for the rest of this season so we don't let one bad game turn into two yeah there are very few teams out there that won't watch game film but they may want to skip this one I mean because it may hurt their confidence they just need to turn the page and get ready for the next opponent forget this day ever happened they're facing a third down back to pass it's owski he's going up top here late in the game and they wanted it all on third down but now dealing with fourth down the golden flashes will bring the punt team onto the field fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt he only needs a SLI of daylight he was able to get that ball up to the 48 yd line before he stopped on the return Michigan has it back as the eagle offense returns to the field with this big cushion they're working with Jesse they're ready to send these fans toward the exits and you know the coaching staff has got to be so happy with how this offense has been able to come out here on the road fight the crowd noise and execute at such a high level day yeah just dominate the football game and now listen it's mode where I can run the football run out the clock watch this game go to zeros and get the DB power football with the run and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down and they say a quarterback's best friend is a good run game and a good running back I think he agrees over 150 yards on the day I don't even think I need a quarterback the way he's been running the football all game long when you know you have a team outclassed the ability to play to that standard and finish with a blowout like this is really impressive and it's almost like playing against yourself right you know you're better you know you're going to win the football game but how do I continue to still execute this this was so easy great execution a just beat down in every facet I think as a player just love being in such great Rhythm and we saw that right from the GetGo in this game offense just able to matriculate the ball down the field defense was not giving anything up what a great game plan coming in and this was just Total Domination that's
