Intro e hi everyone and welcome check out this scene tremendous buzz in the building here today A lot of excitement around this college football matchup [Applause] [Music] [Music] Opening Kickoff / 1st Quarter [Applause] the Mustangs will kick this away start us off Turner looking to make a play here makes it to the 16 that's good coverage there the 16 and the by off will take so the BYU Cougars offense going to get the chance to start this game off and here comes one of the elite running backs in all of college football when he gets the ball in his hands it's just hold your breath time C he's been electrified he sure is the embodiment of a superstar the Bonafide Runner with ill intentions for the defense this offense leans on him and there aren't very many times and he doesn't come through for them that completion makes it second and short off the RP caught to the right they get him down but the gain moves the ball up to the 36 here the def aggressive will it [Applause] be B hand it off running with purpose for the defense coordinator this week here to the air it's red SLA short connection to the right end here to get him down quickly not much of a gain on that complete three and they keep the drive going or perhaps face a tough fourth down decision the first down pickup tackled at the 45 boy the defense misses out in an opp he hands it off from the gun the gain is four so it's second and six think of the opening drive they mov moved it but now face a third down dropping back look going to throw for the first down receiver looks it in it's complete tackled at the 33 that's good enough for a first down they bring him down but doesn't matter nice first down out of the shotgun he hands it off that's a strong stiff arm and he's out of bounds after gaining action maybe throw the ball down field back to throw it's red slap it's a quick grab and he's brought down but he does have enough for the first down well this is called s hole giving the quarterback a nice Target able to pick up that first [Applause] down makes the catch can he get in he makes it to the end zone touchdown BYU well that start could not have gone any better K well Chris as you know it's always huge for an offense has confidence to score on the opening drive most times coordinators are just kind of feeling the Deep defense out giving them a lot of different formations kind to see how they react to get points on the board man that's a huge [Music] plus extra point try coming now for the extra point and the pat makes it 7 nothing to open scoring it's pretty solid coverage [Music] there Mustangs offense out there for their first possession well it's not easy to narrow down the impact players just a few guys but what do you expect from them today well we got guys that can make plays as well as anybody in the country on both sides of the ball that's why I think this matchup is so exciting two good teams with great individual players that's a solid game movs the ball he hands it to the back shreds The Tackle they tackle him but not before he makes the 45 a solid game you know all week defense first and 10 motion now from the tight end using his legs it's Johnson defense makes the stop after a 5yd gain so second in [Applause] him the quarterback keeps it on the the senior able to make the stop after a short game and a player is down injured after that last set of downs receiver in motion now Quick Pass here comes a Jet Sweep the first down pickup tackled at the 45 yeah to me Chris with this offense is almost an extension of their running game put things pick up enough yardage to get a fresh set of downs K decides to keep it here and he's got it already past the first down marker they get him down but not before he moves the football to the 32 this is exactly how the Mustang starting a new series here on First and 10 it's a shotgun run call he stopped just short of that first down marker and the same runnner has got it again you stop and gets a first down one way to create a play after play here early in the [Applause] game oh here comes the reverse tackled way behind the line he'll lose six there well the backside rules for a defense against quarterback sets up looking for an open man caught near the goal line and he scores touchdown Mustang [Applause] they slow the game down with a long binding drive to produce a touchdown that was impressive what's impressive to me is the consistency you know it's one thing to hit a receiver and you can score a big touchdown but to be able to go and sustain drives and keep the sticks moving that puts a lot on the quarterback and the execution of the offense and man did they make that look easy [Music] and they'll set up for the P for the extra point and is good the extra point is good time into the end zone the last time let's see if this defense has made some adjustments to stop him this time G moves the ball out past the 25 yd line I tell you to be able to pick up a nice gain like that down for this offense from the 26 yd [Applause] line can they pick up the first on the ground Nowhere to Run they'll carral him for no game on the field they scored a touchdown on the last possession let's see if this defense has been able to come up with some adjustments and stop him this time they'll run it here he's brought down but not before the gain to the 42 yd line and he drops back in the gun grab down the middle it's Maryland a big hit by the linebacker able to knock him down third down [Applause] play try and muscle for the first down and the Mustangs look to keep this drive moving look I realize on any play call it's properly executed it can go to the house for a tou on third down he drops to throw a short pitch and catch to the tight end Chris great effort here by this he's on to boot it away [Applause] now that punch sails out of bounds there'll be no return this time that has been in large part to the alliance on the ground game which has been featured from both sides in this one so 2nd Quarter far and after a promising start we hope that both these teams will just continue with more of this action here comes the BYU offense back out on the field they were held to a quick three and out last time looking to put together a positive drive here and it's incomplete he dropped the first down pass from the shotgun now here's a handoff inside the junior able to bring him down quickly [Applause] you want to be against this defense third and long dropping back we going to throw for the first down he's got it for a big gain he's tackled quickly but the yardage is good enough for the first down this line getting set up it's a first down play it's a draw to the back they tackle him behind the line a loss of four how about the defense on this surprised at all make great [Applause] they'll run it out of the shotgun breaks loose at the 45 heads out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up a first down how about setting the edge quick throw caught on the left side defense reacts quickly a very short gain on the play up scanning the field it's red slap quarterback finds a Target on the right it's complete and a big game before he goes out of bounds the offense keeps churning gets a fresh set of downs long way to go for a first down drops back looking to throw for it on third down to screen pass complete to the running back he's brought down good job by the defense so on fourth down the decision is to find out the field goal team long enough and good oh Chris it's a nice kick here to polish off that drive with at least three points up on the board [Music] [Music] the last Drive they came up empty had to kick it away can they come up with something here out of the shotgun he'll hand it off you know in that era that we live in right now everybody wants to spread the field round try to create space try and play second down after that run on the previous play give it to the back again the Sal were able to bring him down quickly manageable here from the 25y line back to throw it's Stone grab made by the tight end he head out of bounds but not before picking up enough for a first down getting set on First and 10 a pop pass on the Jet Sweep and the runner brought down right at the 38 yd line why I'm a big fan of that Jet Sweep motion like that from the shotgun it's a handoff gets into space at the 50 they get him down but he crosses Midfield spot the ball of 44 everybody always wants to talk about have backs that can carry the ball and come up with plays like that move those sticks and keep this drive going and they'll go right back to him on first down they get him down but not before he rovs the football to the 32 boy how about that place The Backs got it eludes a tackle Chris it's the consistency of this back is given this defense fit seventh play of the drive coming up they'll switch it up looking to throw fires it to his Target he pulls it in for a big game touchdown SMU this quarterback on fire today Chris how about the call here with the wheel route the running back we know he can run the football but here he shows his ability to catch the ball out of the back field and that R route is tough on a defense sometimes the back can get lost here he catches it finds his way into the end zone for a [Music] touchdown so they'll try to add to the lead now with the p extra point makes the lead [Applause] four play you offense back out on the field kicked a field goal in the last drive but looking for the End Zone this time caught over the middle it's Roberts they make the stop but not before a solid gain that time great execution on the off for loss you throw the offense out of whack in their game plan gets much more challenging to try to come up with that first oh a sack the senior on this defense making a big down [Applause] play back to pass it's red SLA receiver makes the grab dropped for a loss after the catch on third down sets up Mustang's offense back on the field really excellent possession last time the mix the run and the pass kept the defense off balance and route to a touchdown tackle made after a nice pick up on the play the quarterback makes the correct second down after that run on the previous play hand off here from the shotgun a change of Direction second effort their defense cannot stop him short of the market looking down field it's Stone let a fly out of the wide out catch made on the right side that's a big game they wrap him up after the completion just short of the first down marker they call his here they're already in field goal range but thinking about the end zone looking to pick up the first down through the air running back has it on the screen now B carrier heads out of bounds but the pick up is good back to throw again that pass is caught and he's tackled after the catch love the timing here dropping back it's Stone delivers from the pocket complete over the middle tackle is made but the game sets the offense up get the first down not surprised at all that they're able to convert there's the snap quarterback setting up to throw catch Made In The End Zone touchdown ponies what a job by the offensive coordinator going to that five wide receiver set creating the one-onone matchups finding the most favorable match up and then going to that receiver for the [Music] score and they'll set up for the Pat is for the extra point extra point makes the lead 11 first play of the drive can they do something in the final 30 seconds of the half out of the shotgun he hands it off gets some space around the 30 a timeout is called to talk strategy close game here as we approach halftime lanes and then exploding through the Gap when it opened up to the air it's red SLA running back grabs it on the screen and he's brought down after a big first down game it's second and short maybe looking to pass here on second down and is complete what a grab by the receiver right near the sideline the field this will be interesting they're going to trust the kicker from 57 yds out can he get it there no field goal try no good he missed it he missed opportunity to make this a one four games still losing by [Music] HALFTIME 11 M's going to wrap up the first half here let's kick it now to Kevin Connor with our halftime update guys time for everyone inside that stadium in Dallas to take a deep breath and kind of digest what we just saw and we've got to start our halftime breakdown with this Superstar running back his elusiveness his raw power this young man is the total package and his ability to catch the ball out of the back field is a differentiator a lot of guys can hit the hole this kid can hit the hole and hit the home run in the passing game either way it's time to find out back to the best in the biz for the start of this third quarter 3rd Quarter [Music] and the Cougars will kick it off to begin the second half and he takes this from inside the five and returner brought down by the coverage team and the SMU offense is back out on the field now first play of the second half is a handoff he s but he gets out across the yd line started oh it's a reverse that's a nice tackle there by the senior they'll go with the ground game here running back takes the hand off and the one moves the ball up to the 33 but I feel like they called that knowing chances are they're not going to hit a home looking to throw it's stoned quick throw to the left side and he's got it breaks into the clear it's a Sprint that's a massive Play Moves the ball to the 14 and just like that they were in scoring position on third down in the Red Zone this is a four-point type of play touchdown or field goal and he'll drop back here on third down that was one is incomplete the defender was right there unit onto the field the kick is good he knocked it right down the middle and that will extend their lead even further I was watching this guy in three game he has got a strong leg I'm surprised here he's able to put three points up here for the offense [Music] guys just able to Corral him at a great spot to start this drive on First and 10 they'll look to throw it makes a quick grab tackled but not before he gets into enemy territory at the 45 dropping back it's red slap goes to his right side there for the completion they make the tackle but that's a solid gain moves the ball to the 34 makes a quick catch a solid 8yd gain brings up a second and two boy this receiver in the slot is giving this defense all athletically against this slot receiver SS a quick throw takeen down but not before he makes the first down looking to throw it on first down and he'll LOF it to the end zone oh and a chance and an interception in the ends to field go on their last Drive got to do something here on third down to get back in range looking to throw yet again he's running out of time here grab down the middle it's Hill the game moves the football to the 6yd line it'll be first down and go to cut into this lead looking to pass it's redl he's got it near the end zone brought down but the completion moves the ball down to the four and there's the tight end third and goal here's the snap offense looking to throw the ball and he's got it touchdown Bram young well that's just textbook right there great timing and recognition by the quarterback great route by this receiver he gave a nice stem to the outside before he went to the post perfect timing tough to defend and an easy TouchDown for this offense and now they'll set up for the point after for the exra point PC up and good they Trail by a touchdown 24-17 the last possession they had to settle for a chip shot field goal can they find the end zone this time out they'll tackle him about the 23 yd line it's a good solid game five or six yards they'll run it from the gun spinning out of the tackle and that brokken tackle will earn him first down yardage another nice game by this he has had a oh a reverse they'll tackle him for a loss of five yards the defense there showed they'll hand it off they'll tackle him right at the 31 I know this defense worked very hard at halftime to come up with answers up at happen on Third and long [Music] dropping back looking to throw for the first down pulls it in it's Bailey the defense wraps him up quickly got about five yds on the completion but offense getting set up here's second down looking downfield it's red SLA and it's caught on the crossing pattern they bring him down but an explosive play by this offense big game so who's coming into their Zone that time they just lost the receiver and they gave up a big gain using his legs it's Martin brought down but crosses Midfield to the 46 nothing better than set with a first and 10 now tailb back with another carry and he breaks the tackle on the way to a solid game there just love watching this back run gets third down play is coming up [Music] they'll try to move the chains here on the ground and he picks up the first down tackled at the 32 well that shows you the trust they have in their offense comes play number six on this drive on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball caught quickly finding space at the 20 and look at the speed there they finally bring him down but it's a nice gain it's really good timing here had that covered relatively well just a good play call and good execution looking to throw it from the Red Zone makes the catch it's Hill they've got him down at the three big gain on that completion well this is what coaches love to see a quarterback with the ability to read the defense properly and then just get it to the open man sometimes it sounds simple but it's tough to execute this time we have good recognition by the quarterback and he gets it down to the tight end you can see what he can do after the catch [Applause] let's check out this running back comparison these guys have been excellent pounding away and seemingly only getting 4th Quarter [Applause] stronger we're set now for the fourth quar who is going to make the crucial plays to take home this W they go with a direct snap fights his way into the end zone touchdown BYU boy as a defensive coordinator you've got to be careful being so worried about this pass game and this quarterback that you're a little bit soft up front and it cost you it's exactly what happened here as they score this touchdown [Music] [Applause] here's the point after attempt on for the extra point and FP gives us a tie ball game here in the final quarter that time game at4 dropping back it's Stone looking to set up a screen pass here good job with the defense to fight through the blocks on that screen he's short of the first down and long from the 29 defense figures to bring pressure here from the pocket delivers over the middle he bring him down but he makes the 40 yd line that's a solid game quarterback sees create a lot of havoc in the middle oh and a flag before the snap looked like the defense jumped into the neutral zone there neutral zone inter defense neutral zone infraction moves the ball up five yards important second down play coming up takes the hand off again the sopa with a strong tackle there dropping back it's Stone fires it to the white out catch made down the left side an explosive play it's a big game before he goes out of bounds it'll move the sticks more than enough this guy makes another big Play here's a quick throw off the play fake they bring him down quickly a short pitch and catch you get a little bit closer to the marker he reads that they're up makes the throw in the quick slant gets some really good yards oh and he flat dropped it going to bring up it's third and short from the opponent's 28 let's see what the play call is here they're already in field goal range but thinking about out the end zone receiver makes the catch they stop him but it's a first down well that's exactly how you Dice up a Zone continues the long drive pre- snap motion from the receiver they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep there's a loss after the completion that's a good play by the defense this is a great job of being prepared by this looking to Chuck it again bringing pressure just throws it away but takes a big hit in the process really good attempt the field goal is good and they've reclaimed the lead with that well you talk about a clutch kick good job by the Snapper and the holder the kicker gives them the lead but remember this one is certainly a long way from being over here in the fourth [Music] on the field and On The Run it's Martin and he stopped after gaining four yard second down after that run on the previous play to throw it's red SLA pass is caught to bring him down but he reaches the 30 yd line tackle is made but the junior this screen was coming and then ring to the ball drops back needing a third down completion here here's a screen pass to the running back and they bring him down blocker not much help comes the Mustangs offense back on the field they settled for a field goal last time let's see what they can come up with on this possession out of the shotgun he'll hand it off yeah I like the Run play here and offensively at this point in the game you want to remain and the quarterback keeps it here that's a nice wrap up there by the junior not exactly the outcome this offense was hoping for here go third down play dropping back we going to throw for the first down it's a quick grab and the game just good enough for a first down oh that one really begin a new series here first and 10 from the shotgun it's a handoff b car by Mar down at the 48 yd line want to know what happened what was the breakdown that almost allowed that big play on third down he drops to throw catch hauled in here over the middle tackled inside the 40 and it's good enough for a first down well why not the move now they'll work the clock here with the running game run down after a seven yd gain so it's second and three what nothing like getting positive yards both sides they'll set up at third and four can he make it to the marker tackle made at the 26 good enough for a first down boys this going to run it it's Johnson pickup is five yds so it's second down and five and now continues to March that's the wide receiver coming in motion now Quick Pass here comes a Jet Sweep tackled but only after picking up a fresh set of downs Now shotgun formation here's an inside handoff they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one they'll try the ground game here with the running back tackled behind the line it's a loss of two they try to run in here on second down unable to get the they go on third down here they're moving the receiver now before the snap handoff from the shotgun he's not going to get the first down it's fourth down and field goal is good and that one my gosh I mean it's almost too easy nice [Music] kick to dial up some explosive plays let's see what they got called first play of the drive they come out throwing couldn't find anybody open just has to throw it away to throw it's red [Applause] SLA the pass rush closing in he pressure him and Sack him but be tackled inside the
