Aloha Welcome To Paradise AA hawwaii just outside of Hulu and the home of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors a tremendous setting and a spectacular game that we have in store maybe you need a little caffeine or maybe the sheer energy of this matchup will keep you wide awake as we know anything can happen when you kick off after Dark as we'll see a squad from the Big 10 the UCLA Bruins taking on a team from the Mountain West the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one up and the Bruins will kick it away to start he'll start the return inside the spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make to stop at the 19 the Rainbow Warriors offense will start this game off here he comes and obviously defense is always going to be aware of a quarterback but boy he finds a way to put defenses on their heels all the time David I mean what can't he do he's got the weapons he's got the confidence he's got the experience Jesse these kind of guys are so hard to defend you're right they better be able to find a way to get pressure on him cuz if they don't this is going to be a long day makes to grab and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down new set of downs after that completion and when you get Zone coverage and you're running curls and the wide receiver Sprints off the ball you know what happens that DB starts to bail and that wide receiver comes back and it's easy pitch and catch for the offense scanning the field it's shager how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion this is a third and long [Applause] he's looking downfield to throw and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback and that is how you silence this rockus crowd defensively on the road first drive of the game setting the tone getting a huge sack on third down and the reing Warriors will send out the punt unit hand goes into the air for the fair Catch and the catch is made around the 40 so the UCLA Bruins offense will go to work for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team in generally game ball is loose he's got the ball and he'll try to pick up a few good awareness by the offense you never want to see the ball on the ground but a nice job understanding just kind of jump on it make sure you keep possession out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs the Bruins moving quickly to the line off the play fake on first down to throw and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge game if he could have held on you don't get a lot of chances like that in games guys take shots down field and when you get open you got to finish the play The Wide out's going to wish he had that [Applause] he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short this is the type of play that decides games are you tough enough to convert third and short from the 30 they'll try to power their way ahead they've got it just outside the Red Zone they'll move the chains it's at the 21 this offense knew coming into this one guys how important it was to start early and on this opening drive for them they're doing a nice job running the football there on thir third down they're in a position on the field now if you're on defense you got to be ready for a shot throw into the end zone he'll pull it on the read that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there and the Bruins have taken it inside the 20 he'll do it himself and maybe they want try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one trying to move the sticks on third down through the air zingit complete to the right they make the stop at the 5yd line but they've got it first and goal defenses are put in such a tough spot when offenses get in third and short because the whole Playbook is open and they go with the pass I love it they sneak the pass in there nice success great job by the quarterback getting rid of the football getting the first down now set up first and goal he'll keep it himself and he'll Glide his way in for the score touchdown UCLA UCLA it's what makes this offense so hard to stop when you've got an athletic quarterback you got to worry about him in the running game and there on the option he makes the right decision keeping it and he caps off the opening drive of the game with a TD they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game so that's a 59 yd touchdown drive and they punctuated it with the 5yd touchdown run the kickoff unit about to go to work here he comes from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the Hawaii offense returns to the field they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocks and establishing this running game and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense at your dispos they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here and he's able to bounce off one tackle for a solid pickup the Rainbow Warriors send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away now on the the return he was working his way toward Midfield but they'll stop him at the 46 yd line and let's see what kind of ball plays this offense has ready the give to the single back and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine the Bruins want to crank the tempo [Applause] they'll keep it on the ground he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three even if they don't confer picking up a few would give them a decision to make on fourth down is third and long from the 45 got it behind the line it's stdent and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the Stop and the Bruins will putt this one aways up a fairly short distance here toward the sideline is not his best work Hawaii has it back as they send the offense onto the field boy three and out last time David they' like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really click no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive that's the end of the quarter and UCLA has the lead we've played one before we move on let's have a look at the stats now to see if these guys can get back in the game as we open the second quarter direct snap and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here and this one will be stopped for no gain and the Rainbow Warriors will try to pin them back with the punt man and you see those sticks and you're like dude third and short I just got to fall forward and get the first down palmer but the defense comes up big and gets the stop so on offense don't overthink this one fourth in inches just line up something easy you know you can execute in your sleep and go keep this drive [Applause] going they'll pick up four second and Six coming up tempo for the offense the give to the running back from the shotgun gets it out to the 25 yd line a gain of three so they're facing third and short from the 25 they'll Run play action fires to the wide out got his man to the left he'll have up for the first down and they stop him at the 45 the Bruins come to the line with a new set of downs and listen the defense knew coming into this one they were going to Target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they are able to cover him throughout the rest of this game looking downfield it's garbers just a short pass to the tight end and he might be known for run fits but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end I say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form TPP caught on the outside it's third of it he steps out of bounds but he's got enough for a first down when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's you saw in that last play there was no question where the quarterback was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks it doesn't matter what the coverage is and you saw it right there on that play he's got it he works his way inside the 30 down to the 29 and picks up a first down really nice looking throw there and traditionally the best UCLA offenses are always the ones that can get it done through the air you've got to be able to come up with explosive plays in the passing game and if this team is going to win a conference Championship they need this guy to play at his A+ level week in and week out first downs is that alone you know just on this drive the defense they keep this up they're going to get worn out continue to have to play more and more guys they got to do something to change this and the Bruins will hustle to the line and how good is it for a quarterback to have a running back he not only can just dump it off to but can actually be dangerous as a receiver agreed Rees it's not just check Downs or screens or swing routes or flat routes this guy can get vertical and he can all of a sudden start stressing defenses in the second level and he cruises his way to the house touchdown breu it love the play design on offense cuz you get your playmaker the guy you want with the ball in his hands you get him open Easy throw for the quarterback receiver does the rest puts up on the board they'll try to attack one more on their score and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they CA things off with a NY touchdown pass he'll bring it back from inside to SP not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Hawaii ready to go back to work on offense they've stumbled a little bit out of the gate here Jesse finding themselves down by two scores pass on the way it's picked off trying to take it back and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pi most defenses are lucky if you have one good covering Corner fewer are lucky if you have two they've got three DBS three corners that can play at the same time in their nickel package that they feel can go mono imano with anyone in the country and you saw it on that last play coming away with the [Applause] pick a first down for the offense to throw it's garbers pocket starts to collapse can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls incomplete he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short it's definitely the wide receiver's job to create space right so so whether you're running a go or you're running a hitch like this right here I got to find a way to push off legally or just create a little bit of space to get some positive yards on Third and short they keep it on the ground here the stop is made but this offense is threatening first and goal from the nine defense is backed up shadow of the goal post trying to defend their own end zone he makes a grab he's all the way down to the 2yd line just spectacular execution there a very productive play on first down has now set us up with his second and goal it's incomplete he was shooting for the end zone right there this defense was put in a difficult spot but they've made it tough and now the offense and he'll take it in touchdown UCLA well just as you would expect that didn't take very long it didn't Reese and you've got to make great field position count when you've got opportunities you got to pay it off and the offense took advantage scoring a touchdown didn't have far to go but they got the points they needed now they'll line up for what they hope is [Music] automatic and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive UCLA 2 Hawaii from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Hawaii offense returns to the field they're down by 21 points but you got a touchdown here and you do at least apply a little game pressure Jesse it's true I think for them to get back in this one at this point now they need the quarterback to play his best football he's going to have to be good really pre- snap David making sure they're in the right looks and he's got to be really good with his decision making he's got to be doubt in because defensively you're giving up points so it's not like you have the luxury your defense playing great the offense is going to have to score and score pretty dang quick got him downfield great pick up as they'll keep this drive moving and they've got it at the 45 for [Applause] the to the air it's shager they're trying to get to it and they got him he'll get him down for the sack we haven't even gotten to halftime yet this offense has their hands full trying to keep this quarterback standing up straight they've already given up multiple sacks that's the biggest reason why they're trailing by as much as they are they better go in at halftime and make some big time adjustments on second down wants to throw quick strike complete they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer on third down going up top a strike [Applause] downfield he is down at the one a terrific run after the throwing catch I know it's early in the game but defensively after that play you know you have to tackle the catch when this guy gets the ball in his hands he is so dangerous after the fact so it's okay for him to make catches just got to get him to the ground quickly and now a chance not only to cut into the lead but play it just right and maybe the other team doesn't even get a chance to answer and makes his way into the end zone touchdown Rainbow Warrior and nice job this offense put the scoring drive together and now listen it's not even halftime yet so keep fighting um you know going to halftime regroup we found a little something something on this drive see if we can cut into this lead and continue to make this game closer and closer and after the extra point they're now down 21-7 they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering here's return from inside is 10 couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 youa will go back to work on offense they'll crank up this drive with the pass missed his receiver there it's in complete after the misfire now on second down back to pass it's garbers fires to the middle he's got it at the 45 on his way smashes through the tackle he's got the sidelines going nuts as he gets it down to the 18 yd line the offense calls a timeout to stop the clock wide receiver shows motion from the Red Zone looking for a space he CAU it they'll immediately call timeout man I love those guys that are willing to put their body on the line and he does it right here man just lays out that Ball's coming in you can see it from several yards out making that play laying out touchdown breu and they take it in for six more points U number 17 with the [Applause] car getting set for the point on for the extra point and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead quick work on that scoring drive just four plays 2 from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime and they try the middle of this defense and that is not happening no the BR up from the gun the running back looking for room and he's taken down after a short gain and that'll do it for us here in the first half as the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our halftime update man nice to see you actually showed up for today's broadcast in parad nice given all there is to do there in Honolulu and let's be honest the story of that first half has been the play of that dude under Center talk about having complete control of that offense cool calm and collected in that pocket he's delivered one throw after another with precision and zip he's checked down he's hit on a deep ball all in all a very impressive first half and with that let's say aloha once again to the guys inside Aloha Stadium looks as if we are set to crank it up here in the second half from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 UCLA offense is back on the field ready to go to work and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 wants to throw it's garbers using the quick game that's some old school hard noos tough running as he Powers his way to the 30 ball sitting right at the 30 it'll be third and short he's looking to throw dumps it to the back and they can't make the play on third down the Bruins decide put away that is a good omen for this defense they were getting lit up in the first half they knew something had to change so to set the tone like this early on their opening drive of the third quarter and get a stop on third that should really help their confidence off the play fake on first down to throw grabbed over the middle it's Walton and he's brought down at the 40 yd line and that'll be a first down you know we joke that the tight ends always he's open David but playaction almost makes it impossible to keep them cover and yeah because those guys they're such good blockers most of the time they're big and physical and they sell block for a second and then they run open and they find holes in zones or they get good matchups in man those tight ends nowadays are nightmares for defenses to try to stop goes to the option and he didn't get the pitch off and he paid the price and this offense can ill afford to come up empty on this drive already trailing by multiple possessions going over the top grabs it at the 25 in stri and he'll haul it in and take it to the end zone touchdown Hawaii oh the offense shows some life here and cuts into the lead with that score and man they needed it they had to have something to go right listen still down but this is a great start to get back in this ball game [Music] lining up for the Pat and with the extra point they Trail by two touchdowns 2814 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the scorer coming on the touchdown pass from 55 yds out he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 UCLA will go back to work on offense hand off from the gun got to be smart patient great vision uses all of that to get to the 29 and the Bruins in the hurry up back to throw it's garbers gets it out quickly bikov should be so sweet he's Off to the Races pass the T and he'll take it to the house he got loose touchdown UCLA that's number two on the day having a day I mean you know he's going to catch the football and you know he's going to make plays after he catches those are the kind of guys that you feature and you find them and they produce like this you keep finding them [Music] [Applause] lining up to tack one more onto that lead point and the extra point is true and the lead balloons to 21 this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive on the run from inside of zone five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Hawai has it back as they send the offense onto the field trailing by three touchdowns if you're going to get back in it David the time to start is right now got to start now defense giving up points on that last possession again the off is going to have to score and Jesse probably scored pretty quickly yeah you got to go Tempo you're going to have to try to fit in as many plays as you can throughout the rest of this game but I think more than that you got to eliminate the negative plays no more penalties and no more turnovers he's going to throw deep right side he's got it at the 15 touch down Hawaii and once he found open space the man might as well start playing well I'm not sure who was closer to the receiver there the defensive backs or us here in the booth that was great execution on offense receiver wins the route one-on-one shows off his speed gets himself wide open there was no question where the quarterback was that one nice job he'll try to tack on one more for the extra point and the the extra point is good but they still Trail 3521 almost ready to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown from inside the 10 here he comes nice job executing all of the assignments they put a stop to that return at the 22 UCLA offense is back on the field ready to go to work to the ground with the back just enough there to get it to the 25 a pick up of two the Bruins want to pick up the tempo caught in the back field it's thir of it didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few they're going to keep this drive going they'll have to make a play on Third and long from the 26 they'll try to pop the draw and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here and the Bruins line up to punt it away they'll look to pin him deep wants to bring it back he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot looking for a productive play on first down running back goes in motion grab behind the line it's Sims still on his feet at the 45 he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down they've done a really good job identifying mismatches and they find one out of the back field here Reese I really don't think it's that hard my guy is better than yours find the matchup across the field running backs got some speed get it in his hands quickly throw it to him fast let him make somebody Miss against a slower guy that's usually a linebacker offense threatening at the 45 yd line on First and 10 he wants to [Applause] throw and that's just a flat misfire not even close to his receiver after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down back to throw it's shagger unloads to the wide out complete downfield and you can see the offense just feeling itself they've got it down to the 21 this defense has tried to find ways to disguise their coverage and mix it up to try to confuse the QB it's not working though that last completion he's now get over 300 yd passing he makes the connection and he runs through one tackle and picks up a few the Rainbow Warriors are threatening in the red zone and quarterback dropping back understanding I'm getting Zone coverage all I got to do is be a little bit patient manipulate that defense a little bit my wide receiver runs that drag and I get the first down really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D he'll try to pick it up on the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one facing this double digit deficit here in the second half almost a no-brainer to go for it on fourth [Applause] down that's the end of the quarter and UCLA has the lead and they've built a comfort lead after three quars of play Let's Take a look at how we've gotten here one more quarter to go and it looks as if we are ready to play they'll try to start this final period by putting a three- spot on the board it is G5 [Music] so after the main field goal they'll kick it away and rely on their defense looking for an alley from inside his own 10 couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 UCLA will go back to work on offense wasting no time throwing on this drive quickly to the tight end and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting the first [Applause] down quick pass on the Fly motion he brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had it drawn up the Bruins are in the hurry up on Third and long he has to throw for it firing to the right complete he's run out of bounds but he's got enough to move the sticks and the Bruins have it with a first and 10 well this guy's been a go-to guy for this offense all game long you've seen that and here on a critical third down late in the game with the lead guess who shows up with another big one that one quick Tempo here for the offense I love an offense that wants to stay aggressive even when you've got the lead late in the game like this right you still try to find your Playmakers and get them the ball in space and that is exactly what this offense is doing hey have it at the 43 third and short trying to avoid making a decision on fourth down they'll try to pick it up on the ground and stampeding through the defense he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense I really like what I see from this offense with the lead in the fourth qu quarter and they're moving the sticks this is now the sixth play of the drive and they've been able to stay on bleed clock they want to just continue doing exactly what they're doing right now on the move it's garbers he's got an open man just what this offense was looking for sets him up at the 26 with the first down offense in the Hurry Up This offense is not letting up guys they've got a lead here late and they are still taking shots still looking for explosive plays this defense just has not had an answer here all game long it's on Target and complete they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker they've done a really good job creating the matchups they want out of the slot yeah dude get that guy matched up on a linebacker a shot toward the end zone and it's incomplete going for the massive explosive play instead they're looking at a third down sometimes as a quarterback when you're feeling the Rhythm and you're feeling yourself you just want to keep taking shots right this guy's already thrown three touchdown pass pressure is on the way and the pressure has arrived and down he goes at the 30 playaction pass success has a lot to do with selling that fake you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play [Applause] now on fourth down here comes the field goal team and there is a degree of difficulty with this one a 47 y from the right hatch he's got it showing off that big leg from 47 yds out that makes the score UCLA 38 Hawai 24 [Music] they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away kick and he takes this from inside the five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Hawaii ready to go back to work on offense it's always great to get points on a drive but it would behoove them to try to get a touchdown this time around Palmer they may have to get out of their comfort zone here too David a little bit and just start being more aggressive and take some chances but that's what's going to have to happen for them to win this game and that defense gets to him and down he goes at the nine that's a good example there of complimentary defense the DBS and linebackers are playing Zone they're playing their spaces and they force the QB to to have to hold the ball try to work through his progressions and then the pass rush they went up front you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 looking to throw it's shagger looking left fires a bullet now it's picked off made the play on the pick was hoping to make one on the return he'll have to settle for letting the offense pay it off from the 26 heat up them pass rushers bringing them DBS that's what I'm doing in this situation when I got the lead by a couple scores late in the ball game in the fourth quarter I'm going to rush the passer like crazy I'm going to put all those DBS back playing the pass that's what happened great job understanding they're going to have to take shots we get the interception this one's almost over they'll come out on this drive and let it rip finds a spot in the middle and it is a good idea to gang tackle first guy couldn't get him second guy finally did they showed great trust in their quarterback right there and why not he's had an outstanding game the outstanding game has taking care of the football now late in the game you got the lead that first down now tells me now it's time to start running the football run the clock get out of here with the done on second down just keeps firing and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming they'd love to pick up this third third down and get a fresh set with first and goal the aerial assault continues snagged In The End Zone touchdown breu it and this offense continuing to put up points this game's Out Of Reach you know you're going to win but still throwing the football still finding that connection I imagine there'll be some salty handshakes at the end of this game ling up to add another and the extra point splits the upright and they're up a full three touchdowns a 21 Point cushion in the fourth the kickoff team takes the field to boot this one away on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Hawaii offense returns to the field mistakes are going to happen as they did on that last drive now how will they respond Jesse and this is the kind of guy who's going to take full accountability that was my bad that's on me I'm about to lead this offense now down the field to score some points dang Palmer I wish I would have played with you I didn't play with many quarterbacks that were just like yeah my bad hey guys I got this sorry about that it was more you should have ran a better route and they'll shove him out of bounds after the short game passing game very effective on second down what about here on third looking for a man it's shager throws to the wide out wide open downfield and they finally get him down but not before he's got him set up for business at the 49 yd line and the best thing about this the offense can't worry about the scoreboard just keep trying to make plays like that Jesse I know a lot of people in the stadium probably feel like this game is over maybe it's been over for a while or he's but don't tell that to this quarterback and his teammates they're still out there scrapping and clawing they'll throw it on first [Applause] down oh he wants it all he's got it at the 20 and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one and Jesse there's a huge mountain to climb here but you might as well start with a chunk play well you got to start somewhere ree it's been tough going for this offense all game long they find themselves in a hole but I love the aggressive nature keep taking shots keep trying to claw your way back into this one looking to go up top on first down and he got a hand on it to knock it down in the end zone couldn't make the connection on first down now here on second it's a nice adjustment by the defense here with a big lead in the game you're putting extra DBS on the field knowing the offense has to throw to get back in this one in the fourth quarter so your best cover guys on the field and they force an incompletion on the last one on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it and he's got it touchdown Warriors these two have spent plenty of time together that was almost telepathic D no doubt and quarterbacks and wide receivers broke all off season to get on the same page you can see he hits him in stride that's why he gets the touchdown [Music] ready to try the point after for the extra point splits those uprights right in half so an 82 yd drive there and they finish it with an 11 yd touchdown D they are running out of time here they need to get the ball back they'll line up for the onside kick the UCLA offense is back on the field ready to go to [Applause] [Music] work smart move to keep it on the [Applause] ground hold down after a pick up of five but they knocked that defense back and they've got it down to the 34 yeah it's maker break time for this defense now they got to get a stop and if that's bringing more bodies in bringing more beef in they're running the football right up the gut right at you they're not going to throw the football in this situation time to be more physical and get this big stop we reached the two-minute warning and this offense will be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away looking for a gap it's harden a strong tackle and wrap up from the junor timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible they'll run for it on Third and short they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one quick timeout call by the defense stopping the clock to save
