games that test your focus top 25 team against an unranked opponent can you take care of business as we'll see a squad from the SEC the Arkansas Razer backs taking on the 18th rank team in the land the Oklahoma State Cowboys for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing [Music] [Applause] started the Cowboys will boot it away to start the game from inside the 10 here he comes nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 so the Arkansas razorx offense will get the first crack ated here this has an old school feel to it it's this running back makes his way onto the field and All Eyes Are Fixed they are grewed on him yeah the old school because nowadays it's usually quarterbacks and the other guys that get all the attention but this guy's so good he is the focal point he's the guy everybody's looking to he's the tone Setter he's the physical Bell cow for this team he will get the rock early and often you can barely hear yourself thinking here as they're trying to get this defense off to a good start they'll give it to him again and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four from the gun running back on the Move brought down at the 48 after a gain of five wow what an impressive looking run you think back to some of the greatest rushing offenses in the SEC in recent years remember that offense that had Darren McFadden and Felix Jones both in the back field sometimes taking Wildcat snaps nobody could stop them this dude I think could have broken his way into that rotation with his ability this guy's sick out of the the shotgun they go to the ground able to scr three yds out of that one somehow it's second and seven and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs got three on first down it's second and seven looking for a physical attack from the gun oh the ball squirts out and the defense has got it and they're bringing it back flying out to the left he's at the 10 touchdown Oklahoma State and the defense doing work and I love the way they break on the football swarm to the football this is why you do it because sometimes the ball comes out the linebacker picks it up and tell you what the big fella shows some speed takes it all the way back for six [Music] [Applause] lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the pat makes it 7 nothing that is a defensive player stream ball sitting there chance to scoop it up one with it and they don't stop you until the band starts playing they're lining up to kick it away and that defense salivating after getting the scoop and score he'll bring it back from inside his five and he'll be brought down after a solid effort on that return and Arkansas ready to send out this offense they'll give it to the back pretty good job of running to get two there to the 32 and a nice second effort by the back to break a tackle but how about those defensive backs willing to come up stick their face in the fan and make a tackle those are the best run defenses too right it's not just D lineman and linebackers getting all the plays but it's DBS that are willing to not just cover but tackle backs in the open field keep it on the ground not much he could do there does pick up two to the [Applause] 34 decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down looking to throw it's green and they can't make the play on third third down those are those where you're just looking at your hands left hand right hand left hand right hand dang it I should have caught that nice Play Break on the football that could have been a house call that could have been a game changer but just couldn't secure the interception their Razer backs line up to punt it away first time we've seen their punt team this afternoon looking for a block it's pring he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot so the Oklahoma State Cowboys offense will go to work for the first time as dynamic as this guy is on the outside Jesse you know he's going to be cheating that way from his free safety position you're right as a quarterback I just can't throw to my guy in the perimeter right I got to attack the middle of the field the problem is you got one of the best safeties in the nation who likes to lay people out yeah roaming the middle of the field reading the quarterback's eyes and he's got an eye on that receiver out there too that's Dynamic so let's see what kind of day he can have didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 he's looking to throw grabbed in the back field it's Owens the defense wouldn't let him loose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage me getting trigger get into him get him on the ground get the tackle for a loss they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on Third and long you'll need to push it down field and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down third and long situations are really hard to convert the defense knows it's going to be pass the pass rushers are getting up field you're under pressure you don't have timing and as a result now fourth down and the Cowboys will punt it away on fourth down let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one running it back it's sategna he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot and now the offense will come onto the field again from the shotgun they'll run it a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs after picking up a couple it's second and eight they'll try the run and they drag him down but not before he picks up the first down and that is just an attitude run running it right up the middle right into the teeth of that defense the offense will put it in play from the 47 on First and 10 they're going to ride this running back and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there it's really frustrating when you get a guy in his spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job and he can't get the guy on the ground that's your job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's not a huge back you got to make that tackle you can't make it easy on the offense when now they got a a manageable situation after run run run now throw moving away from pressure trying to escape and get it himself they bring him down but not before he gets just enough to move the chains most offensive coordinators want to be really aggressive on second and short and I love the quarterback here he drops back the pass thinking being aggressive nothing available scramble give me an easy first down as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter out of the gun the running back has it and after the tackle we are headed to the end of the first [Applause] quarter guys that's the end of the quarter and Oklahoma state has the lead here we put one in the books Let's have a look at our game [Music] [Applause] summary they've switched into the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second when with the running game on first down now back at it he'll run it again and he is swarmed under a host of Defenders there to make the stop [Applause] third better find the ear pluged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down down scanning the field it's green throws to the wide out he's got an open man touchdown Razorbacks that is the ultimate grab and go for the score one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch and if this quarterback gets through his progression David he HS you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that [Applause] play lining up for the pat on exra point hit that one with some aggression for the point after an impressive 66- yd touchdown drive and they get it into the End Zone on a 36 yd touchdown pass all tied up and just about set to kick it away and he's going to bring it out I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he's stopped at the 14 [Music] handoff from the gun just wanted to find a little space to run and EES out some to get it up to the 21 coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three movement here from the tight end the give to the tail back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple I'll tell you this defensive end not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see him beat the offensive lineman there trying to block him and get in the back field to make that tackle for loss that was impressive you've got a third and manageable backed up in your own end but convert here and you get some momentum back to throw it's Bowman tight end f a soft spot he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch ever since they invented the forward pass the tight ends have been running the drag and getting the first down I I think it's because the tight ends is so much versatility you know they can block and stay in the formation or they can release and come out but either way if the quarterback's patient most of the time that drag route's going to come over they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and I think a lot of times when offenses run these counters you're going to fake one right right pull guys the other direction if you can get some penetration really quickly get behind those pullers you got a chance to get in the back field just like right there and create a tfl lost one on that last one it's second and 11 from the shotgun the hand off to the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and the defense was locked in you could tell they saw it they react acted right away got the running back on the ground immediately they've made third down offense a key it'll be tested on Third and long from the 28 looking to throw and he needs a chunk Play On Target to the left and he gets it to the 45 yd line and that'll be a first down un listen the defense knew coming into this one they were going to Target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they are able to cover him throughout the rest of this [Applause] game the give to the bat discards a man and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football all you can tell after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven and he loses four on the carry well they're trying to get that run play going to the outside but it's the defensive end who does a great job winning his one-on-one and forcing the negative play this offense really needs to get something going punt on the opening drive and now a third and 10 coming up back to throw it's Bowman makes his connection and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down he just didn't have a chance to get loose and make his way to that first down marker I think fans get upset sometimes like run your route past the sticks so we get the first down but nice job by the defense understanding where the sticks were and forcing the fourth down oh this is a bad bad chame we'll take a quick break here two minutes to play in the first half the Hogs send that offense back onto the field how big is this drive scored a touchdown the last time they had it defense got to stop and now it's up to them in a tie game all right so if you're the offensive coordinator here let's dial it in who are your best matchups and best Playmakers to take advantage of this golden opportunity yeah and I'm interested to see this defense too like the momentum is clearly not in your favor how do you get it back how do you make a big play you be more aggressive here to try to get the football back to your offense and it'll be incomplete this defense is physical and pass [Applause] [Music] deep Here Comes This Home crowd as a defense tries to get off the field on third down leaves it with the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming and the Razer backs will try to pin them back with the punt this will be the second time they've had to kick it [Applause] away on the return it's Prest looking for Running Room he'll get it to the 43 yd line before he stopped Oklahoma state has it back and the offens is on the field comes out throwing on first down it's complete on the right side he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got it enough for the first down nice job by the receiver there running the drag route against Zone coverage finding the soft spot making it easy on his quarterback to get the completion he turns it up field and he moves the steps the Cowboys are in the hurry up to the air on first down not able to hook up the air incomplete incomplete it's now second [Applause] down didn't connect last time let's see if they throw it again on second [Applause] down to throw it's Bowman fires to the wide out that is just a sideline credit throw catch tow drag everything you want just outstanding execution continuing to work his way back through the football yeah and everything about this route looks vertical The Comeback it looks like it's a go I'm thinking speed and then he sets it down QB puts the ball on the money and he makes the play pcket starts to collapse and compl and he threw that one up for grabs and into traffic and fortunate to get it back and a golden opportunity Slips Away from the defense there that's one he'd love to have back he knows he should have come away with the interception there in the red zone and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down takes a snap wants to throw and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one they're going to throw it again fires to the end zone can't make the grab as he was going for six right there really nice third down sub defense there that time it's third and long they're expecting pass and they're mixing up their looks they're trying to change the to picture pre- snap to post Snap to confuse the quarterback now forcing the incompletion setting up fourth and now on fourth down they'll try a field goal it's good and with that they've taken the lead that performance [Applause] [Music] so they get the field goal now about to kick it away and you get a stop here and you go to halftime feeling really good about things here he comes with the return nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 and Arkansas ready to send out this offense so late in the half this is really an opportunity day and the quarterback goes down at the 11 y line there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer this play will be a big indication of whether this drive goes anywhere on second and long from the 11 to the air it's green and he feels the heat coming and it burns him up another sack the defense calls a timeout there second of the day as they try to get their act together they've got them pinned deep in their own end and this this crowd trying to help keep them there they go to the ground and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker the defense going to stop the clock with the timeout they want to make sure they have everybody on the same page the Razer backs will call on their punt team three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball he gets it away from his own End Zone a fair catch is called for it'll give him great field position offense getting set for first [Applause] down he's going to pass he misses his man the accuracy just not what it needed to be on that play well the good news is he did a nice job reading the coverage he knew exactly where to go with the football that time just a little bit too much on that pass you wonder if that's just nerves he's got to settle himself down a little bit second and 10 here he's looking to throw quickly complete and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there this slot receiver is a guy the defense has to be careful of he runs good routes he's got some speed and if you're not careful this guy can gash you and let's hold on just a minute here as the officials are going to have a second look and they take another look at the play but the officials on the field were right and the play will stand on Third and short they'll try to throw for it he makes a catch and get him on the ground but not before he gets up for the first down defens is throughout the week study every third down situation you got to be ready for what they do how they do it and then be able to adjust great job by the offense so far having success and the Cowboys want to crank the tempo everybody lined up quickly snapped and spiked to stop the [Applause] clock time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half looking for a man it's Bowman that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds [Applause] a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass couldn't find a man and just had to throw it away to avoid a negative play and the offense got themselves in a tough situation third and long so hard to execute especially when the field starts to shrink but the good news is they got a field goal in their back pocket just a few seconds to go here in the first half and they'll send out the field goal [Applause] team kick is good the offense has three points to show for the drive andell Trot off to the locker room after the field goal to close the half [Music] at the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our halftime update fellas you've been calling a magnificent game there so far in still waterer and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives lot those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top and with that let's head back to the home of the pokes and Boon picking Stadium [Music] [Music] and the Razer backs will boot it away to start the second half and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense just gets it to the 28 pick up of one didn't get much on first down it's second and nine to the air it's Bowman firing to the right complete they make the stop right there good pickup and still short of the first down I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game ball spoted at the 29 here they come on Third and [Applause] short he'll bull it on the read no where to run on that when he loses four on the carry well this defense knew that they were going to be seeing some option in this game and right now everybody's doing a nice job playing their assignments on the third play of that drive they were expecting it and everyone communicating and all rallying to the football that was nice to see if you're the coaching staff fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way really good job by the coverage team to make the Stop and that's where they'll put it in play the Hogs send that offense back onto the field it has been a complete uphill struggle for both of these offenses Jesse it sure has at this point David someone's just going to have to step up and make a play someone's got to break attack make an incredible catch and just give some life to this offense whatever you can whatever it takes don't worry about looking pretty that's out the window we've already looked really really ugly we got to find something that works to put some points on the board the incompletion brings up a second down from the gun the ground game gets away from one he's got space he's right out of bounds but a big play on that and it'll be a first down well the defense knew coming into this one it was going to be a physical game guys are going to have to be great at the point of attack and get off blocks and make tackles it couldn't stop the offense from picking up that first down on that run play they've got it first and 10 at the 50 they'll ride the hot hand he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage well they're trying to run the football there just nowhere to go they got dominated up front at the point of attack they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 from the gun running back gets to give [Applause] debb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down back to pass it's green fires downfield makes the grab he'll work his way down to the 28 this tight end is such a weapon because he can line up all over the field that time he starts in the slot he's running the corner route against Zone coverage and he's just got athleticism and wiggle and the ability to separate and make big plays so nice to have a Target like that quarterback on the keeper and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop him this defense really has their hands full guys they got to play with great discipline because they don't know who's going to be keeping the football in the Run game and that time you saw the QB he was able to kind of skirt his way to get some positive yards this crowd knows when to bring it they think they can create space here with the run to the right running behind those pads he gets a couple before he stopped at the 18 [Applause] third down in this crowd is tearing the lid off this place they'll try to get it through the air caught near the sticks it's sategna he's run out of bounds after the big gain and they are in business first and goal and that's a really good example of a quarterback and his intended target both being on the same page the timing was almost perfect on that play that's why they were able to convert the third down Now setting up first and goal this offense trying to quieten the crowd on first and goal and they are not cooperating he worked his way ever closer all the way down to [Applause] the these fans raising the volume on second and goal tries again to get it in just hammer it with this running back again and he noses his way into the end zone the best running backs are the guys that can just sniff out the end zone that running back showed you all of his freakish ability on that play [Music] ready to try the point after the extra point and the extra point gives him the lead a 1413 an impressive 66 yd touchdown drive and they capped it off with a one yd Pune almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown now he'll start the return inside his spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Oklahoma state has it back and the offense is on the field the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse we just had no ribbon in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum now on second down looking to throw it's Bowman swings it out to his running back great move there he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense they've done a really good job identifying mismatches and they find one out of the back field there reee I really don't think it's that hard my guy is better than yours find the matchup across the field running backs got some speed get it in his hands quickly throw it to him fast let him make somebody Miss against a slower guy that's usually a linebacker you know it's so important for offenses to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down time one winding down in the quarter as they come to the [Applause] line that's the end of the quarter and Arkansas has the lead they're sitting in a strong position here with the lead let's take a look at our game summary one quarter to go and might we have the makings of a classic fourth quarter finish to the ground with the back shakes off the tackle he picks up the first down brought down but not before he put that dude in a blender I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown RS you got to give this defense credit because they have bottled this guy up all game long he's one of the best running backs in all of college football everybody was expecting him to have a big one today don't tell that to this defense though they've played with great effort they've gotten hats to the football and they have been able to shut him down on the ground it's Gordon a ripped off seven on that one now a third down in three listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive gain making your situation really good on the next down what they would give to help their kick her out with a few yards on third down from here it would be a 55 y grabbed in the middle it's Gordon he's got enough for the first down they'll spot him at the 24 yd line well look that wasn't a touch down but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression the Cowboys will have it first and 10 wants to throw it's Bowman using the quick game they stop him just short of the first down but it will be second and Ines coming up that wide receiver on the outside's dangerous when you're playing Zone coverage it's really hard because you're not chasing him you can't really get hands on him you got to make sure you send more guys his Direction maybe slide those linebackers toward that wide receiver so you got a little more help on the outside fast motion from the offense dialing up a second down pass play gets it out fast that completion takes them down to the seven yd line and they are ready to strike and I love working with slot receivers and you see so much of that it's about matchups right I can put a fast guy in that slot maybe get him matched up on a linebacker or a safety I like working those guys in those matchups favorable for the offense for sure and a late opportunity to grab the lead here a touchdown would be huge knocked down after a gain of one they'll mark it at the six man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance they keep pushing forward now back to work on second and goal from the six he's looking to throw and he was shooting for the End Zone there and they couldn't make the completion nice job by the defense there taking all throws away from the quarterback he had nowhere to put that football in the field to play so that ball obviously had to go out of bounds if they can pay off this third and goal opportunity man oh man those collars start getting a little tied across the way lets it go to the end zone and he wanted to get the score right there but it falls incomplete this is a no-brainer right now after that incompletion trailing by what you are in this area of the field fourth and short just kick the field goal it's what you need to give yourself a chance to win and this field goal attempt might be their chance to save themselves with this one they can Vault into the lead he splits the uprights and puts three on the board and now they regain the lead all field goals are not created equal guys kicks in the fourth quarter to take Le it just seemed to carry so much more weight so give that young man credit for getting out there and knocking that thing through the uprights with all the pressure with all the eyeballs on him he delivered after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away on the run from inside his own five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 and Arkansas ready to send out this offense how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion I love the quick decision that QB made there on that RPO knowing he wanted to get it out of his hands fast he just needs to make a more accurate throw moving forward let's see what they've got on second down looking downfield it's green good timing on the quick out and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain I like the slot receiver because he gives his quarterback a good option working the middle of the field he's a nice weapon in this [Applause] offense these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down they'll try to get the first through the air caught close to the marker it's sategna and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chain wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your offensive success and that's why teams drill third down so much in practice the short hands it's Wilson he stopped just a CH K Linker two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully here my old coach said you'll never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complain got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down he's looking to throw immediately fires to the middle put it right on him sweet play good pickup and they'll move the change with the first down and there was no question in that scenario that's where the quarterback was going he knew he had his receiver in a matchup that he liked running a route where he would find himself opening nice job between those two first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning makes the catch it's sategna at the 20 he's got space touchdown Arkansas they've got the lead here in the fourth [Music] [Applause] they'll try to tack on an extra point here deep in the game and the extra point is good and the lead is five here in the 40 so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the finisher coming on that 42 yd touchdown toss the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away he'll bring it back looking for help didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense and to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they'd love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out on the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here yeah and listen I I think the first part was the most important part you got to put a drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focus on execution and getting six points and they pick up just a few on that completion and quarterback droing back understanding I'm getting Zone coverage all I got to do is be a little bit patient manipulate that defense a little bit my wide receiver runs that drag and I get the first down facing a third down and short from the 26 looking to pass it's Bowman he he's got his man nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down let me tell you this senior quarterback can flat fitted in a tight [Applause] window offense rushing to the line of scrimmage clock has stopped for the first down they'll try to get it off quickly they keep attacking through the air zings it complete to the right and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up he would love to have picked up the first down there but saving the timeouts saving the clock much more important right now and that could save the game because now I can work the middle of the field still now I can still take those shots deep when I get without timeouts and those start to dwindle I get very predictable so great job getting that of balance got his man downfield and he goes down right there but a solid pick up and it'll be a first down we've got a Timeout on the field a tight game in the fourth and the Brain Trust will go to work he'll come out throwing on first down got him downfield now he's got it all the way down to the 21 yd line and they are threatening on first down they say tight ends are a quarterback's best friend in the past game because think about it the tight end's the guy lined up closest to the quarterback which means generally those are the easiest throws a quarterback has you saw it on that play he spikes it clock stops as they try to rally late it's now second [Applause] down offense gets set for second down back to throw it's Bowman it's complete to the right they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the 10 they immediately call timeout trying to preserve every second they can to try to rally here late he's looking to throw it trying to get to it and he can't get it off taken down what a huge play this late in the game and that's exactly what this defense needed they needed to have something positive they given up some yardage they given up some plays no big deal got right back in it on this drive with
