[Music] welcome to Manhattan Kansas the little apple where they have taken a large bik out of college football the Man For Whom the stadium is named Bill to a formidable Foe and home of the Kansas State Wildcats what a game we have in store for you today a big 12 showed out and the implications could last for the rest of the season as we'll see the Cincinnati Bearcats taking on the 19th ranked team in the land the Kansas state wild cats for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started he'll start the return inside his five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so the Kansas State Wildcats offense takes the field to start this game off and here he is guys anytime he takes the field he is in complete control with this offense and David he gives defensive coordinators nightmares because of his ability they're going to have a hard time slowing him down no he just doesn't have those weaknesses those flaws the whole Playbook available and he is a dude second down coming up eight- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short keeps it on the bootle fires to the middle he strike down field and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up Kansas State pushing the pace wants to throw on first down off the play fake fires to the wide out it's caught downfield he get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down it's a nice job running the end route there by the receiver and the best thing he did after he made his break he didn't Trail and fade away he actually attacked the football that's a good lesson for young receivers out there watching the wild cats with the first and 10 Johnson and looking to throw and the quarterback will be slung down back at the 43 well the offense trying to stay aggressive right you just came up with a huge play and right away you go back to another pass but you got to do a better job protecting your quarterback can't give up a sack there second down now now after the sack looking to throw just a short pass to the tight end and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few I like the idea by the quarterback there you're trying to get this first down so you find the tight end see if he can make a guy miss or shake a tackle not able to get it done this is a third and long he's looking downfield to throw fires toward the The End Zone and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score and that is a huge missed opportunity for the quarterback you've got your guy wide open in the end zone you're not under pressure you just got to hit him that ball got away and that's one he'd like to have back Kansas state will have to punt it away he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 so Cincinnati's offense will go to work for the first time today offense getting set for first down it'll be a draw he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three I love when you start bringing linebackers up into the line of scrimmage and you start sending them because those guys have serious speed they can come catch anybody up and down the line of scrimmage the linebacker you could tell he had a good clue what was going on he knew it was a run play fired pulled the trigger came downhill and attacked the running back and the pressure gets him back at the 8 yd line and you're seeing the pass rush on the second play of the drive they dial it up look at the speed and athleticism this defense has is they Crow the quarterback for a loss this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long looking downfield and he needs a bunch pressure coming just gets rid of it before the heat we're already in the first quarter but already you get the feeling this could be a long day for this QB he's already been sacked he gets hit right there on the incomplete throw they've got to find a way to do a better job up front of protecting this guy or it's going to be difficult to put up points and the Bearcats will bring the punt team onto the field three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out now a fair catch is called for and may just shy of Midfield and here comes the Kansas State offense back onto the field they go to the ground they'll pick up four second and Six coming nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered up solid pickup of four on first down it's second and six Johnson wants to throw it setting up the screen just ran him over and the defense able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker well it's a nice play design there you're getting the running back involved in the pass game quarterback gives it to him early so he can go to work up field and get the first down they're lining up on First and 10 from the [Applause] 38 it's a reverse they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one what great discipline showed by the defense when your jobs contained you're supposed to contain the football not let your eyes deceive you ball starts to go away your job is to still contain the backside great job staying disciplined great win for the defense L one on that last one it's second and [Applause] 11 and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit coming up third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off from the gun wants to pass finds a man on the left breaks a tackle and he's got room finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is giv them and creating the explosive play and the Wildcats are rolling down the field looking for a physical attack from the gun pick up of one it's down at the 11 left bring up set down going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone wide receiver now comes in motion quarterback keeps it and this one will be stopped for no game game on the play Third Down coming up boy they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and goal on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air and he's got it touchdown wild cats how about the offense they spread him out everybody spread wide easier to read a defense when you do that they find the matchup they want and they get rewarded [Music] he'll try to add another to their lead extra point and extra point is good and it's 7 nothing so a drive that started just beyond Midfield only 49 yds and they finish it with an 11 yd touchdown Dart kickoff team lining up to send this one away and he takes this from inside the five and the returner will be knocked down here comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field running back searching for a hole solid gain to get him out close to the 20 pick up of five to the 19 halfway there on first down it's second and five power football with the run and after the tackle we are headed to the end of the first quarter it's [Applause] third guys it's Kansas State who carries the lead into the quarter break we put one in the books Let's have a look at our game summary cincin heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the second they they'll run this play from the pistol they'll try to drive ahead on Third and short and the defense holds firm no pick up at all on that play if you're going to stop the run game you better be physical up front on the defensive line they've got some maulers they've got some dudes with bad intentions nice play there the Bearcats will line up to PL it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he'll bring it back it's rocket little pressure on the coverage team there and they'll stop him at the 47 yd line K state has the ball back and the power cat offense returns to the field makes his connection after the pick up of nine it's second and [Applause] one BR up [Music] [Applause] the handoff as they run the counter play here he works his way inside the 30 down the 29 and picks up a first down all right well look I know the defense was feeling real good about their run de coming into this one and how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on the defensive line but when you can have and he stdes his way into the end zone touchdown Kansas state number one and this receiver is on fire he's got all the skills that you look for in a big time Target that's already his second touchdown of the game [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that lead point and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and they covered the final 29 yds with that touchdown pass kickoff team has the ball teed up and they're about ready to [Applause] go on the move from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the beat offense ready to go back to work now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point in the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 at this point and I would also say Palmer kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here make something happen on this side of the football and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on third down going up top Wiggles free he'll pull it down and run building momentum picking up a chunk of yardage moving the chains out to the 34 sometimes these guys just have eyes in the back of their head you saw it right there he was able to buy himself time get outside the pocket and at that point I think the decision was pretty easy hey I can go get this with my feet he was able to do that now they got a fresh set of downs the Bearcats will snap it on First and 10 going going to run it it's ker makes him talk to the hand great pickup as they'll keep this drive moving and they've got it at the 45 I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs found enough room to get it into enemy territory there down at the 43 yd line well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play and they get just enough to keep the drive alive and the Bearcats headed quickly to the line coming out on first down with the play fake got out of trouble got rid of it quick strike complete they sto him just a link or two short of the first and man what they can do on second down here well you're seeing the balance this offense has how they can create explosive plays in a variety of ways we just saw one come in the Run game and now you see one coming in the passing game I'll tell you they've got this defense on their heels they'll leave it with him running with power crosses the 30 to the 29 before he stopped pick up a five on the play it's a first down how about to play by the speed back you think about speed you think about breaking ankles he broke the tackle because he's so fast moving so fast hard to get the guy on the ground finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first and 10 someone not clear on the snap count it'll be a false start and they'll move it back false start off so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty on first down here comes this offense quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down that's a really good job by the defense reacting to what they see they see the quarterback Flip It Forward on the touch pass now I got to go get it right crow that football he picked up some yards yeah but you didn't give up that big explosive play and now you have to make him earn it now on the next down to the air it's sorby fires into traffic pick off the sudden change on the turnover man he was looking for Running Room couldn't find that but they'll have it at the 22 and defensive backs you think don't have good hands the big fell shows that how about that defensive back going up and getting the interception nice job breaking on the football you say that's why you play defense cuz you don't [Music] hands and here comes the Kansas State offense back onto the field they wanted to set the tone strike quickly Jesse they've done exactly that up two touchdown this quarterback has been dialed in too he's been so good reading coverage going to where the open guy is with the football they've been up and down the field David so far and this defense needs to make something happen right now you've already given up a couple touchdowns your offense has got nothing going still early in the game get a stop create some momentum for your offense they'll keep it on the ground and they'll bring him down but not before he picks up the first down I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the First with a first down they'll snap it from the 32 from the gun the running back has it got behind those pads and picked up three out to the 35 looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out second and seven off the bootleg to buy a little space and this sophomore quarterback just put it out there a little too far the defense was obviously ready for that play they've obviously been watching film they know that that pass play is one of the bread and butter plays this offense has so nice job defending it now facing a third and long [Applause] Johnson looking to throw he's got it defense caught out of position and they get him down finally at the 38 man this offense is so dangerous ree they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels as we reach the two-minute warning they'll need to try to get a stop to keep this thing from getting out of hand Kansas State really has this drive rolling trying to find his man on first down got it in the middle it's Swanson and he's able to bounce off one tackle for a solid pickup I don't think he was the primary receiver on that play David but a very productive pickup on first down and these tight ends are so good at understanding zones and where to sit down and listen it's not the huge game down the field but it's always de by a Thousand Cuts small gains break tackles and continue to move the sticks good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch man how about the first half this guy's having he already has two touchdowns picks up a huge first down right here on defense you're going to have to find a way to control this guy you're going to have to make some big time adjustments at halftime the Wildcats will line it up on First and 10 getting some heat time running out and he goes down at the 34 this defense needed something to go right man they're down big already in the first half get to the quarterback get him on the ground this could start some momentum going back the other direction so now on second along you start to just don't fall out of field goal range Johnson wants to throw it finds his tight end gets away from one he's got space run out of bounds just before he could get it into the end zone and now they're set up first and goal that's what's so scary about this offense they've got guys in the perimeter that can change the game in one single play and you saw it right there too much speed on the perimeter to create that explosive play and the Wildcats will try to punch it in on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run and he takes it to the house touchdown Wildcats well well well somebody's been doing their box jumps you Ain mind getting up in the air Hey listen I'm taking a picture of that saving it that might be my screen saver on my phone that vertical way up in the air he'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they're up 21 to nothing 16 21 ccin Z so they got the touchdown and as they kick off really important for the defense to shut them down here looks as if the returner will try and field this one and the coverage team able to make the tackle here comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field this lead in the half you're behind you'd love to create something before the break to build momentum Jesse but you've also had some miscues on on offense a big part of why you're losing the game right now I'd take it into halftime make my adjustments and come out ready in the second half yeah I'm going to take it in halftime too Paul but I'm trying to put some points up right here be aggressive set the tone be like Hey listen this is what you're going to get in the second half so find something really quickly you go to hey man if you're going to force incomp completions when the QB is thrown to the tight end you better be physical nice job with the hit forcing that incompletion offense gets set for second down after the incompletion they go back up top PS it in there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer they've got a first and 10 at the 34 time out Cincinnati looking for a man it's sorby wide open downfield plenty of room on that play and they find their way to the 36 and what a huge play for the offense hitting that throw not only is big for their confidence but it also flips the field they don't seem interested in inching the ball down the field that big play sets him up first and 10 from the 36 throws to the wide out catch in the middle it's Smith we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break just on the edge of the Red Zone first and 10 from the 21 he wants to throw they're trying to get to him and a little too much adrenaline on that throw never gave his receiver a chance [Music] running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break on second down looking to throw and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that one and it's third down but they're going to go ahead and try the field goal and try to get points before the break and he'll Envision the ball fight as he lines it up from the right hash and 38 yds out it's good he hit that one right down the middle hold on second flag down let's see what's up with that they'll decline the penalty here and the result of the play [Applause] stands that late in a half field goal always gives you a little boost going to the locker room and they'll need to finish off these final few seconds and not allow them to answer from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connor in our halftime update man it should come as no surprise that we have ourselves a fun matchup in Manhattan an entertaining first half and we've got a multi-p possession lead to break down thanks to to the surgical Precision of this offense might honestly take more time to talk about what didn't work than what did the running game the passing game Gadget plays have worked now it's just a matter of finishing the job and with that let's send it back to the guys inside Bill Snider Family Stadium Kansas state will kick off as we get things started here in the third quarter looking for block and the coverage team gets the returner on the ground the mirat offense ready to go back to work they come into this third quarter with a lot of work they need to get done yeah and it starts with this possession and and I'm I'm going piece by piece in know this is coach speak and very simple I score I get a stop I score I can get back in this game but it's got to be one drive at a time it it's going to have to be but I think the mindset offensively is we're probably going to have have to score every time we get it because our defense has been struggling they have not been getting a lot of stops so this is a critical drive here for this offense the give to the running back from the shotgun finds his way ahead for three out to the 16 gain of third down coming back to throw it's sorby unloads to the wide out saw spot in the middle they stay aggressive and push their way out to the 33 in it's first down let's not complicate this my man is better than your man find your matchups and go get them and the Bearcats have it with a first and 10 used the play fake now to throw going to take a shot at this DB oh he drops the football he had him right down the gut of the field instead it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again on second down he's looking down field and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming what a hit by the defender that's a good throw and that was going to be caught but how about the defender dislodging the football from its intended target nice job and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late he tosses one high deep down the left side and that pass is intercepted got some room to run he's at the 20 and a big return after the int sets up the offense for this possession not only did they get the interception but they're able to get a huge return remember this team practices this all week right once they get the interception they've got guys turning their heads and they're looking for blocks they're looking for people to get a hat on down the field and with that I they now flip it that could be a big Point swing in this game the explosive play set the table now they got to serve the feast slams ahead and the defense Stuffs the run and the ball will remain at the two well this is a defense that we know takes tons of Pride stopping the Run that's where it all starts and ends with them and you saw a great effort on that last play can the defense stop them again on second and goal tries again to get it in touchdown Kansas State and the beat down has ensued another rushing touchdown that's now two on the game this offense thought they could come into this one running the ball being the more physical team and they look like it right now [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that [Applause] lead and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further they got the ball in great field position and Bam Bam two plays and into the end zone almost ready to to kick it away after scoring the touchdown the here he comes from inside his own five and they'll haul down the returner to start us on the next drive here comes the Cincinnati offense back on the field mistakes are going to happen as they did on that last drive now how will they respond Jesse and this is the kind of guy was going to take full accountability that was my bad that's on me I'm about to lead this offense now down the field score some points dang I wish I would have played with you I didn't play with many quarterbacks that were just like yeah my bad hey guys I got this sorry about that it was more you should have ran a better route the running back has it able to pick up a couple before he's dragged down at the 19 third coming this is the type of play that can give the offense momentum third and short from inside the 20 looking to pass it's sorby fires to the tight end and he converts on third down as he gets it out to the 26 they pick up the first down on the drag route I know that seems like a simple route but it's actually a lot more complex than what it looks like because that route changes based on whether it's man or Zone if it's man coverage he's flying across the field if it's Zone he's got to sit down over the ball and a soft spot giving his quarterback a place to go with it nice job of those guys being on the same page there they stop him almost immediately short game there still a little ground to cover to pick up the first so difficult cuz my eyes tell me as a defensive guy he's handing it off the offensive Line's blocking run I got to go get it quarterback pulls it throws it to the right it's kind of like that hidden hat game like where's the ball I'm always trying to find that dum thing option look it's sorby just working and poking and prodding and finding his way up to the 36 well good decision there by the QB a little Zone read action he reads the defensive end crashing down keeps it himself gets a nice chunk of yards and when you do that you just sort of get the drive going or keep it going as the case may be it's amazing in college football now how big of a part of each offense The Zone read has become as we're seeing more and more athletic quarterbacks in the Rost now that is a staple of this sport the Bearcats get it past the sticks I don't need it to be pretty I just need my inches third down in inches nice job by getting the first down always fall forward play physical don't get East and West stay north and south nice job by the running back and the Bearcats are on the Move they're getting this guy lathered up the ball carrier R tackle is four BR up [Music] second picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll give it to the back at Midfield he's got R and they exploited that soft spot they get it down to the 35 man I want to be a running back in this offense when you take that hand off to the right and you see that blocking and all the holes open up that's a good sight for a running back you've heard of Reed and react I think the defense read it they just didn't react very well well when you got that kind of a line just all that push they're getting on that right side and just pushed the defensive lineman back got in the linebacker laps and man on man it was it was brutal up front man this quarterback is living dangerously right now obviously he threw a pick on the last Drive he's trying to complete that throw but the defender gets a hand on it TI it up in the air that's oh no that is an oh no situation they're lucky that one hit the ground play number nine on this drive looking downfield it's sorby he's got his man and just a short safe pass play they pick up a [Applause] few third down coming [Applause] [Music] [Applause] if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it quickly complete they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some Lan for their running back it's not a great feeling on defense too when you're blitzing you're expecting to get a sack you're expecting to get a hit on the quarterback if the offensive line and running backs pick it up uh-oh because now you have one less guy in the back end trying to cover all these receivers and tight ends and you know you're in trouble and they Tred the middle of this defense and that is not happening I don't think the quarterback made the right read on that play I know they're asking a lot of this QB he's got a lot to focus on with the pass game and all the different types of runs they have in their playbook but on that play there that pre-nap look told me to hand it off and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've seen one more quarter to go and it looks as if we are ready to play second down coming up goes to the off and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing well they want to come out and try to get the Run game established but up front defensively they made a play they gave up nothing on that one got to find some breathing room if you're going to establish yourself on the ground and there wasn't any that time yeah Reese I wonder now if this offense is maybe going to try to get to the perimeter of the field and see if they can use their speed to hurt this defense that one did not go well tackled into back field for a loss of six I'll tell you this defensive end not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see him beat the offensive lineman there trying to block him and get in the back field to make that tackle for loss that was impressive on fourth down makes the grab and he's got the first touchdown Bearcats hold it in and just kept right on running to the hallelu you land quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anti ipation the timing to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical David listen a lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you've got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the [Applause] rest getting set for the point after on for the extra point and the extra point cuts the lead to 2810 they held the ball for 15 plays on that touchdown drive and the score comes on a touchdown pass covering 28 yds so they got the score the lead is still 18 as they prepare to kick off on the run from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they they'll stop him at the 16 K state has the ball back and the power cat offense returns to the field that kind of play will get a drive started or help your field position they've got it at the 27 and the defense down in this game they just can't do anything to stop this offense at this point David right now they know they're going to be trying to run the football and try and Ice the game but there's nothing at this point it seems they can do yeah and it's frustrating I got to sell out man I I got to bring as many guys to the line of scrimmage as I can I got to find a way to get this ball back to my offense the the clock is not my friend and then running the football is only going to run this thing out quicker I got to find a way to make something happen strip the football do something here comes the offense on second down the give to the back no what a move just a Savvy veteran productive run from this junior man this offense would really like to lean on this guy in the fourth quarter right they've got the lead and you just saw his ability there breaking a tackle he looks like he's getting stronger as the game goes on I'd expect him to get a few more carries here before this game's over on the [Applause] Move continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 if I'm building an offense in today's football it's not around a quarterback that can't run I'm going to find an athlete that I can give the ball because defensively it starts to limit your coverages it starts to limit what I can do it makes me play the quarterback every single play just makes your job as a defensive coordinate extremely hard and just wedges it ahead a bit before he's brought down you know I really like this QB running the football because I know he's got a lot of speed but he's not the biggest guy in the world so he's not going to be able to break a lot of tackles you really got to do a good job of trying to scheme ways to get him out in more space ready to fire from the pistol on Third and short they keep it on the ground here at the 35 he's loose all kinds of Running Room touchdown wild cats and The Stomping has commenced you're not going to keep the lid on this guy forever sooner or later he's going to get loose he is he's a bad mother shut your mouth I mean this dude can make plays that's why you keep feeding it to him cuz at some point he's going to break it loose and make a huge jve now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point splits the upright and they're up 35 to 10 so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finished that thing off in style with a 49 yd touchdown run they're just about ready to kick it away let's see what he can do with the return and The Return Man is stopped and that'll leave it up to the offense on the next drive and now the offense will come onto the field again back to throw it's sorby he's got an open man got a lot of Running Room running inside the 20 and he slipped through the crowd and he'll house it touchdown Cincinnati this is a receiver that is so good running routes you never know which way he's going to go at the top of his route because he doesn't peek he doesn't Telegraph where he's going the timing on Corner RS is so important and the quarterback did a nice job getting it out early so his receiver could make the catch and then take it into the end zone [Applause] he'll try to tack on one more your and after the extra point they Trail 3517 that one's going to get a little star mark besided on the play sheet One play explosive touchdown just like that they're down big but they'll keep fighting to The Bitter End and line up for the onside kick here they were ready for the onside kick and executed perfectly and they secure the football and here comes the Kansas State offense back onto the field you want to talk about a drive where you impose your will that's what they did running it down for a touchdown David there is nothing more demoralizing than that for a defense to be physically pounded the run is coming you know it's coming and you can't stop nothing the defense can do that is anoano up front and your guys getting a push they know you're running it and they still can't stop it they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three on the ground it's gens and he gets it out past the sticks it'll be first down for Kansas State this is a guy that can find you the heav yardage that play he just pushes the pile to get that first down and they'll line up from the 31 on first [Applause] down got it behind the line it's cus you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six [Applause] the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick Tough Run in this part of the field he's got four
