DodgerHeads Postgame: Shohei Ohtani's MLB record, Clayton Kershaw injured in Dodgers game against

e M magic DOD of one and all High Fly ball into right field she is gone he struck him out two balls at a strike the count on Taylor Reyes fires swinging a drive he left fi this his wel up [Music] Tay how about that one Dodgers fans huh what a night Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks 10 to n first game in what we were already saying was going to be the biggest series of the season and then that happens uh chaos everywhere there's a million places we can start but thank you to everybody joining us on Facebook on Twitter on YouTube We Appreciate You this is Dodger heads Pres presented by Dodger blue.com uh Matt the Dodgers won uh I won't say comfortably at times it looked comfortable at other times it looked um uncomfortable feels like too small of a word so uh where do you want to start this thing off yeah for me I mean I I felt like they had it the whole way I I was not concerned with whatever happened tonight no matter what they were going to still be in first place in the NL West uh my read of tonight's game is basically the team with the best record in baseball flexx their power over the uh the the division Challenger if you will and it was just you know another another ho home Dodgers win Anthony you and I have done postgame shows where it feels like is there is there a story single story line that we could talk about tonight you have the guy in the biggest slump hitting the biggest home run you have Otani doing something that literally no player in major league history has ever done Clayton Kershaw gets hurt the Dodgers use eight pitchers eight different guys get hits they extend the lead to five they throw 172 pitches I mean literally there's 15 a segments built into this game so what stood out to you the most of that from that 10 to nine Victory I I think for me it was Kershaw yeah I think that ends up being shortterm and longterm the biggest storyline oh yeah um I think this could be something that we are talking about in late September uh you know I think this has ripples you know potentially that far down the road road and it has immediate ripples because of what it did to the bullpen tonight yeah and you now so to today's not August 31st it's August 30th if they need coverage before the first yeah how do they how do they maneuver that does Kershaw go on the DL or on the ilil like it's yeah there's some there's some stuff here in play now that that roster maneuvering and and you know what's GNA happen with the rotation if if he does have to miss starts all of that kind of stuff comes into play but now they're at this in at this point in the season they're in the biggest series that they face to this point yeah and they already had a tax Bullpen coming in and now I think you can probably call it Gast and they're going to need uh they're going to need a big start tomorrow and then Evan phis might have to give him more than three outs you know who knows we've got a perfect Super Chat here for you Anthony because I think it's all of your problems in one tweet 300 says good win Bond pitching on fumes don't buy the big toe injury so Matt there you go there's your two I guys right Bond who's now pitched three games in a row and a million pitches and uh Clinton K the big Kershaw with the big toe injury is what the Dodgers are reporting so um I I'll come to you Matt let's start with the Kershaw piece of this uh struggles obviously he gets three outs he allows five base runners he comes back out for the second inning Joe Kelly was warming at as Kershaw came in so wi which indicates either a the Dodgers were going to have the shortest leash ever on Clayton Kershaw or B Kershaw went into the dig out and said hey something's not right I'm gonna go back out there but just a heads up if this goes sideways I'm not feeling it people have looked at the velocity other than his curveball which was like two miles hour slower than normal all of his velocity was right in line with normal obviously he was a mess gave up three hits a walk and a hit by pitch including a home run I said you know com he had only given up one home run go ahead Anthony I if you have it in front of you that I I think he threw a fast ball in that at bat yeah was that way down velocity wise that that one was yeah it was I think I think it was like 88 miles an hour the fast ball and then the curve ball was 67 and that was the one that was hit for the home run and then that ended up being it for him uh this was at in the um the home second inning Corbin Carol yeah Corbin Carol's Home Run uh Jeff as you're as you're looking that up I can answer your start to answer your question first I think you know we know uh Kershaw and Barnes have a very close friendship but I think you know the toe injury stuff is taking the solidarity a little a step too far for me uh all good job man in all seriousness uh it's unfortunate and I I know like fans are are questioning the the injury and I think we can eliminate that right away Kershaw is not about to fake an injury you know it it doesn't matter like he would I think the question is is it a big toe injury I I think I think injury for sure but I'm skeptical personally because of his history of and I tweeted this this is a guy who's he in the book about Clayton Kershaw he basically says he has a strained relationship with Dave Roberts and it's almost entirely related to the fact that he doesn't like how much Dave Roberts has said about his injuries and he never wants them to tell the truth he never wants them to say oh his arm hurts or his elbow he says I'm fine tell them I'm fine that's your job Dave tell them I'm fine so I just I found it ironic that it was a big toe injury is what's reported now a big toe injury would mess with you if you were trying to pitch for sure so like especially especially if it's his it's his left big toe and so that's the foot he's pushing off of trying to yeah you know as he's as he's going through his uh delivery motion I fine like if you want to be a little skeptical I guess okay but they're not going to say that it was a toe and it ends up being his back or his should like there's no like I mean how did but at least that was still the hamstring right like they still did no I mean early in the season they said they called it a hip oh well yeah that yeah that one was I think that one was very odd graterol himself or actually Sheen there was some confusion over what like yeah Sheen and Sheen said like I don't know yeah fine I mean I I guess but I would be shocked if and and if I need to come back on here and say I was wrong I will do that I would be shocked if it ends up being being his shoulder type his back saying is is if I'm going to come back on here and say I'm wrong I want to be able to say you know what I I didn't believe the Dodgers when I should have rather than being like you know what I took their word for it guys I don't know what to tell you that's the wrong side I I will say this the the the evidence if you want to call it evidence of it actually being a toe is that I think if it was a shoulder or an elbow or something like that there's no way he goes back out in the second in if he comes in and tells them hey something wrong here no way he goes back out um and then the that that toes situation can absolutely affect velocity uh so I think that you know those two things kind of lining up there make me say okay yeah may maybe this is it um you know the fact that too like they just came out doc came out with the trainer and basically Kershaw gave him the ball as if it was the seventh inning and it was time to go and they just he walked off and that was that yeah um so obvious there was some discussion between Innings but also um I think if it was something bigger there's probably a little more maybe of a check or I I don't know I'm just kind of speculating here but um I think there is a reason to believe that it could be the toe for sure yeah and we'll keep an eye on Twitter but Matt give me the last word on this yeah and there was something to uh to Anthony's point you we to this during the game and and now referencing how Kershaw right like he's not one to ever really just hand the over unless he knows right uh in the like there was I don't know if it was on the rep I think it was on the replay of when Otani got hit by a pitch in the second inning they showed like kind of the uh the the Diamondbacks camera angle looking towards home plate and into the Dodgers Dugout and Kershaw was talking to Dave Roberts and I thought oh like that's a little weird like that's not something he typically does but I didn't necessarily think anything I just thought hey maybe they're discussing like game plan he had a shaky first inning maybe they're talking about you know what they might do and then you know sure enough the inning ends and he comes out and faces one more batter and that's it yeah 87.2 miles hour the fastball his yearly average is 90 uh the curveball the last curve ball he threw 67.4 miles an hour um which is part of the reason his overall average velocity on that pitch was down so remains to be seen um but you know let let's move past that only because really we should be talking about the fact that the Dodgers won this game we talked about how big of a series it was and for them to get three outs from their starting pitcher who left having given up three eared runs uh and to think that they were going to come back and win this game after that against Zack Allen was pretty impressive All Things Considered of course they end up scoring 10 runs they give back four in the ninth still hold on to win 10 to nine and I think you know Anthony as I as I look at this performance one is they got a win so even if even if they were to lose the next three because we're going to talk about what a mess the bullpen is even if they were to lose the next three they're they're still getting out of here with a game lead in the division so they've sort of set the tone the pressure is entirely and squarely on the Diamond Backs from this point forward which I think needs to be said but secondly to to to lose your guy like that to have it be cers shot to watch him go out like that and to fight back for Will Smith who's been crushed by every person on Dodgers Twitter and and I'm not even saying our show's exempt like it it had looked bad and I had even said hey the exit velocities but I'll admit I wasn't fully sold that we were going to see a home run tonight he hits three balls 101 miles an hour or more tonight just tonight so he continues to hit the ball hard Otani hits a home run the bullpen outside of bond and Joe Kelly incredible stuff from them um so I think to me Anthony like I tweeted it and I wasn't joking I feel so much better about this team moving forward longterm World Series expectations after this game just because of I felt like the gut check performance we got top to bottom every guy in the lineup had a hit tonight except for mooki bets every guy in the bullpen contributed and the Dodgers get a win in biggest game of the season you know and there's something to be said about you and we've had this discussion before about like having to play to the wire almost to the wire and have to you know have to play competitive baseball um you know there have been seasons in the very recent past where at the start of September it was in neutral yeah uh you know and maybe they they didn't clinch for another two weeks or another three weeks but uh you know it there was no there was no uh there was no mystery there there there was no drama right and I and I think this season is a little bit different and to see that this team does have some dog in them and and I know that there have been Dodger fans who were not buying that for a lot a lot of this season U but they weren't a whole they weren't a complete team they weren't even close to being a complete team uh during a lot of that stretch and so to see like you said a game like this you have to gut it out uh the bullpen guts it out the offense just continues to to swing the bat um good to see I'm with you yeah and and you should feel good about this team's chances because I think for the first time in a long time we're seeing them play with some grit and a bit of fire um you know I I think that if the biggest thing now for me is if even if they have to play this thing to close to the end uh and remember I called at least a five game win in this Division I called it I know Laura I don't know if you're here tonight but I know you were on me about that it's a five-game lead right now uh you know it I think if they can if they can get enough cushion that toward the end of the season they can really start to give some of those High leverage relievers some rest that would be that would be ideal um but beyond that I I like what they're looking like at this point yeah we got a couple more Super chats John Kershaw to the iil bring back The Knack uh I mean we we talked Matt about Justin roesy being the reinforcement that was going to be coming Sunday um I don't I mean I wouldn't be surprised if maybe that move gets bumped up a a day and you go Gavin Stone the righty and roesy and say hey guys congratulations we need eight Innings somehow doesn't matter if it's two and six or four and four but we need eight Innings from you and Evan Phillips kind of being the only guy available um because I don't believe the way Landon na heat he piggybacked with yamama uh Yamamoto just a couple days ago so Knack is not really an option for tomorrow or for Sunday um so the the Dodgers have some some decisions to make here I'll just put Laura's up as well Laura thank you for the Super Chat as well she says regardless of the win it feels like we're handcuffed for the remainder of the series I don't want to hear a BS injury report thrilled we still got the win so this is where the Dodgers are at Matt is who's available like who are the guys that they can bring up even if you look at the 40-man roster you know I joked Michael Grove might have been must have been thanking God that he was not on the Dodgers roster because he would have gotten the ball in the third inning and it would have been like Michael we appreciate you bro we hope that arm got 70 bullets in it because it's third through nine your name's on it uh but I mean in all seriousness Michael Peterson's on the 40-man roster uh Grove is on the 40-man roster but it's not like they have a a wealth of options to bring up and and every guy that gets brought up somebody has to go on the injured list yeah I mean it's they're definitely in a bind for tomorrow night um and and until basically they get to September 1st and it makes it a little bit easier but even that like you're only getting one pitcher and the Dodgers had sort of already started mapping things out for it to be a spot starter not necessarily A reliever uh for tomorrow I I don't know you know I part of me feels The Kershaw thing is going to be interesting because if it's like I I don't want to like we have we don't have any details yet I've still been checking but if it is something like turf toe or if it's something that you know is going to potentially cause him to miss a starter two then you do put him on the iil but if it's something that he sort of feels like hey like yes it bothered me tonight but once my next time in the rotation comes up I can make that start my guess is he might give a little push back on going on the injured list because then he won't be available yeah so he like on one hand like maybe he's the easy option on the other hand he maybe I don't want to say he won't allow it but he might you know fight it a little bit does Bobby Miller he revealed to uh us last night we have his video up on our YouTube channel that he's been pitching he didn't specify but he's been pitching through a left knee injury and that's why you saw him sort of limping and stuff like that during the game when he went to cover first base uh you know maybe maybe Joe Kelly you know he threw a lot of pitches tonight is his shoulder or his back is it going to be achy tomorrow here here's a name here's a name to throt you there's a guy in the 40-man roster who hasn't pitched since August 24th and that's Ben kasparas and he could be a name he hasn't thrown in six days he's gonna he's a guy that gives you length he threw four Innings six Innings I mean so he's stretched out so that could be because the guy you want to call up is not a guy that's going to give you two innings the guy you need to call up is hey it's you and Gavin Stone and Evan Phillips and like that's it like that's it everybody else is getting the nut off tonight and so casparius could be a name to watch um you know again there's some some other names on there uh Grove Landon Knack Michael Peterson Justin roesy I mean that that's it that those are the only guys available and to Matt's point it's none of these guys can be optioned so um well I suppose vessia I believe vessia can be optioned so I mean they could try and get creative and send a guy like that down but then he's got to stay down for a little while so I mean who knows uh but Anthony you've been on this that the Dodgers Bullpen um you know it it could get it could get interesting over the next 48 hours for the Dodger pitchers yeah I think I feel like one way or another they're going to have to make a call tonight you know we might not know it until tomorrow but I they're gonna just feels like they're gonna have to do something and it's somebody coming it has to be there it's at least one person coming the question to me is is it two or is it three yeah and I and I want to say there may be some they may be close on some option limits with some guys so that could play into this as well um yeah you know so is it I think it's Knack that if he gets called up and sent back down he can't come back up but I I heard Blake I think Blake said that that uh I have to go back and count the the time that Knack was optioned after the soul series doesn't count towards that so I'm not sure I'm not sure if that if Knack is already if he's still at five already or if you factor that in if it takes him back down to four and so then you have some some option but again like we're saying like at least for tomorrow like Knack probably isn't necessarily the guy anyway yeah yeah and if it's Kershaw and let's say that he does fight it he does think he's okay and and maybe he ends up being okay um you know it's essentially you're just skipping a start yeah for him and you know that could that could buy them a a a pretty big cushion Rel relative to you know where they sit right now um that could be a big help so yeah you know may be a numbers game at this point which we've been saying a lot over the last couple of weeks but um that start that he made tonight or didn't make however you want to look at it uh really sort of put them in a corner here uh and they may have to make a call and it may involve him I guess here's another name John John's asking about Joe Kelly he's a name we've mentioned unlikely to pitch the rest of the series on the injured list I mean he threw what 45 pitches tonight uh it was sort of the CL full Joe Kelly experience box in a run by making a third disengagement and not getting the runner I mean which is just unbelievable stuff maybe he's got a a a brain injury that could be I mean Jack Harris tweeted this out and this I joked this is this was like basically when Kershaw came out of the game he tweeted kind of the usage of guys coming into this one so bond has now pitched three days in a row four of the last six days braier has now pitched um three of the last four days and five of the last eight days Hudson pitched uh after a n-day break had been off but he pitched last night copc has now pitched five of eight Phillips only guy who didn't who got the night off so he's four of eight Tran has now pitched four of seven and vessie has now pitched three of the last four so for a team that Matt likes to let these guys catch their breath the Dodgers are really pressing in but you know again part of me like I I want to make sure we're not negative CU these guys for the most part other than Bond who pitch three nights in a row and so I'm going to give him a pass and Joe Kelly who was asked to go throw 45 pitches and hasn't really been that good to begin with like they got the job done like all these other guys braer Hudson copc Tran like all those guys did their job and ended up getting the job done for the Dodgers and so to me I I just want to emphasize kudos to the to the Dodgers as a group I know the numbers aren't aren't pretty they give up nine runs but you got the win like like would we have liked it more if they had lost three to2 but the pictures look good in or you win by a mile exactly exactly um Tim with another Super Chat hope people aren't disappointed if show he goes only 48 to 48 or something like that uh come on Tim let's be positive here 5151 that's where we're headed uh Matt as you pointed out I have been on hit a game-winning home run What's that show hit a gamewinner there you go 4343 as of tonight first player in major league history 43 was the number that no player in history had ever had 43 homers and 43 steals in the same obviously guys had had less of one and way more of the other but 43 is the number that's never been done twice and Matt here we are you know 21 minutes into this and now we're talking about show Otani which just goes to show you how crazy this game is yeah our our apologies to all the show Bay that are with us tonight um I mean it's just it's more of the same and it's it I don't mean that to like diminish what he's accomplished it's just a testament to how good he is and what he's capable of uh you know it's remarkable like a lot of his not a lot but a healthy number of these home runs that he has hit are to the opposite field and it's just like a it looks like a kind of a violent swing but not you're not really expecting it to carry and somehow he just gets enough behind it and it keeps going out uh and yeah like Anthony said I mean it tonight you know it at the time it was oh cool 4343 first time in MLB history this and that congratulations Shi one inning later and ended up uh being the game-winning hit yeah not it wasn't even his hardest hit ball the night his double was 114 miles off the bat the uh the Home Run uh you know much less than that only 99 off the bat yeah you know like I said it was it's less dramatic but number 40 to make history with 4040 was a game-winning Grand Slam yeah and tonight to make history with 4343 ends up being a game-winning home run again I mean if you look at it that way like yeah you know what what man I remember where I was when it came across that Jeff passon had tweeted that sh posted a Dodger logo on his Instagram uh if this keeps going it'll that'll be a day I never forget yeah but do you remember where you were when shohi was on the plane to Toronto yeah that's the more important one yeah that's that's the one that I remember where I was I remember where our staff was so good so good uh Richard with the chat pitchers have back nights on occasion but Joe Kelly had a meltdown in front of all of Arizona offense showed me a lot of guts Bullpen shoved let's focus on that offense showed a lot of guts Bullpen shoved I mean let's be honest Anthony was anybody expecting that Joe Kelly experience early in a game to go well I mean that was pretty much I'm not going to say it was as expected but you know it was in the the the range of potential outcomes I feel like this was Square in the middle of it you know I mean considering all that happened like it's kind of fortunate that they got out of there where they did with him seriously uh you know the the other I think the reasoning too for using him knowing you know what he may have to give us multiple Innings using him that early is like at least if he implodes we have enough time to try to come back yeah or or a position player pitching in the fourth inning and we'll go from there but it's not wearing it up he threw 46 pitches 22 of them for strikes so he threw 24 balls and 22 strikes three hits two walks a b two earn runs one strikeout uh a hit by pitch as well two hit by pitches as well so I mean he we just had the full Joe Kelly experience but again folks let's focus on the positives here the Dodgers won Dodgers have a five-game lead in the division the best record in baseball so uh great stuff everybody we appreciate you joining us again over 2,300 people here um I I do want to ask because it's a guy who's been a topic of conversation and he had the big hit tonight I know Anthony to your credit technically yes Otani hit the home run that was the 10th run and they won with 10 and they needed 10 all of it Will Smith Matt you and I haven't necessarily had the conversation about Will Smith he's been a mess every single number you look at May June July August a mess I pointed out that the velocities exit velocity started to come back I think it was Joe Joey Thomas on Twitter who said like he had the hardest hard he had the best hard hit rate of any Dodger over the last two weeks whatever he hit three balls over 101 miles hour tonight including a three-run home run um what do you make of like kind of the Will Smith experience are you is this a does this feel like hey I'm being patient this is a fluke I feel like I'm still out on Will Smith or are you starting to come back a little bit or maybe you never left I mean I know you're the president of the Austin BS fan club so it's a sensitive subject for you so uh choose your words wisely you know yeah I mean I think what happened is uh Will Smith saw the game that Barnes had Thursday night you know couple couple knocks stolen B smashed down the line get Wally pipped and said I I better come up with a big hit here or I'm about to you know Scott brought it up Jeff when we did our our show our postgame show he said he asked you know are we looking at another gasman grandal situation uh probably tongue and cheek I I hope because you know as as bad as things have been with Will Smith I don't see it going that far for me I I've come to like I said you know we kind of talked like I'm more than anything I'm just confused by this like we've seen him slump a little bit in the second half this year has been more pronounced and it started in the first half and so it's not really like a slump I know Anthony you've said like it's arguably like it's a bad season at this point it's not just a bad stretch I am at this point where I don't necessarily like count on anything specifically uh from Will Smith or you know but did his home run like fully surprise me no like I we've seen him come up with big hits in the past and so I'm just whatever he sort of gives them great but I'm not necess neily going to say okay let's count on you know sh Otani Mookie Betts Freddy Freeman and Will Smith carrying the Dodgers in the playoffs because I I think we might be a little bit past that now if he puts together a great September then it's this is a moot point and yes he's suddenly you know probably hitting cleanup at that point yeah uh we're gonna interrupt this programming real quick because we do have a Clayton Kershaw injury update he is dealing with a bone spur in his toe according to Dave Roberts uh Roberts says they are preparing for a possible move and then clarified quote I'd be shocked if we don't make an I move or two um so you know there it is that's that that feel there's there's your update right I said is it GNA be two or three Kershaw to the I it's a bone spur in the toe they're doubling down on the toes so at least we can take them seriously on that they're not sort of and a bone spur could be real like that's I don't know that you use that as your fake injury if it's something different like you know that that one seems real uh and like I said if it was something else it doesn't feel like they would have let him go out in that second inning at all yeah yeah absolutely do this yeah I you know my first thought goes to what does it mean for the rest of the season yeah that was I was just literally Googling what's the what's the recovery from a bone spur because it's not in the elbow ber had bone spurs in the elbow toe is a better place to have bone spurs than an elbow this is a pain tolerance thing right Matt I mean that would be my guess uh but if if we saw if and maybe this is just the first start and so he's going to learn to like perform better with it but if it is a paint tolerance thing and these are kind of the results that are going to be a byproduct of that like the Dodgers can't roll with that because he look teoscar made a great catch in the first inning and the the Diamondback sort of ran they ran themselves into a double player that could have been a lot worse than it was absolutely so you know there's like you can't really ignore that uh it said there I saw something that said it's something he's been dealing with how long that means I you know who knows it could have been this week but yeah and that's like that's the same thing with Bobby like Bobby Miller said oh I've been dealing with a a knee injury you know something in my left knee and like it we couldn't get kind of a firm answer um people are saying it's a phantom thing like again this isn't okay let's put this let's dead this right now this Jeff knows this has been my Bugaboo for two weeks now since Ty when whenever Tyler glass now happened this isn't a fan of myow if it was they would not have done to their Bullpen what they did to the bullpen tonight no chance they would have just made Kershaw eat it uh so no I think there is something there um whether it requires an is stint or not it's going to happen because they need they need the bodies yeah no I'm with you I mean so then the question becomes if Kershaw goes down I I mean I mentioned casparius he he seems like the obvious one because of length it's going to be a tough test spot to be making your major league debut if it is him but from a perspective of length uh you know and the potential I suppose if he needs to slot into the rotation or something in five or six days he could do that as well um so I mean Matt Anthony I'll come to you like what do you what what I'm not expecting you to have a full scouting report on Ben casparius but just from a profile perspective is that the type of guy that that seems to make sense given the Dodgers options I think so at this point because it's somebody they can they they can shuttle back in you know shuttle in and shuttle right back out when they need to uh and not have to worry about anything else uh you know because I think all their other options are guys who they may have to have a a significant role in September um so I think they with with casparius they can probably just say you know what we need you for the series or whatever it may be uh a week something like that and then move him back out so yeah I think I think in all honesty he makes the most sense and if you know doc just said or two yeah so you know the the chances of him being one of the guys just they go up now well here's here's a fascinating thing for you Michael Peterson and Michael Grove both pitched for Oklahoma City today so I'm sure the Dodgers are not gonna be thrilled about that Peterson it was his first game there's more evidence that this was not a fake I thing there you go Peterson it was his first game since August 25th uh Grove it was his first game since August 27th uh clean inning for Grove one inning two strikeouts no hits or anything so the count might have been manageable for him uh Peterson actually the exact same line one inning no hits no walks no ear runs two strikeouts so um I I would imagine Grove would be the second guy if they do make a move just because he has been up at the major league club this isn't a series they just want to be throwing guys to the wolves and because he's kind of that hybrid role where clearly you know probably not tomorrow having thrown an inning yesterday but in two days he could be a guy who gives you two innings two and a half Innings if needed right yeah and I real quick we're I'm seeing a lot of comments in the chat saying just bring up Knack we need Knack uh again he pitched on Wednesday and it was four Innings I don't see them like I don't see N I don't see them pushing knack to pitch tomorrow type thing and I know uh and here's Bob Nightingale now joining our chat straight uh from the Chase Field Press Box I'm assuming since he was he was in the day Roberts media scrum uh I don't see them pushing that and on and look this this isn't going to be a popular stance and I don't agree with this Approach at all fact of the matter is because of tonight's win no matter what happens these next three games the Dodgers are leaving Arizona in first place the NL West yeah I think at this point they might just bank that and not punt games but sort of say okay like let's just survive these games get as like we're not healthy like let's just you know let's not exacerbate our pitching staff even more he doesn't have to manage with the same urgency that he did with tonight right like you know we're going to we've seen it you know random nights in June where you know they won't use a relief pitcher because they want to protect him for health purposes I think we might see that again and I know it's not going to be a popular opinion and I get it like that's not I'm not one to you know I hate the the idea you know Dave Roberts has told us after games well we were we were losing by two runs and so I you know we we just weren't going to score those like our offense was struggling and I think like what like it's two runs like it's a walk and a home run so I don't like that line of thinking but I think we're going to see it again and I can understand it in this case because their pitching staff is in dire straights and there's really only so much flexibility one from just number of literal options they have in two to then minor league like I stuff minor league like send guys down like you're handcuffed and let's give this some context essentially what this means is is not that he's gonna manage to lose games it means if Stone tomorrow is in the fifth in and he's given up a run and he's got a guy on second or something like that you know Dave might normally come get him yeah he's gonna leave him in and he might give him the sixth also like that's kind of what we're talking about here um not that necessarily like you know he's gonna give kikk Hernandez the ball for three Innings it's not it's not that kind of thing right it's it's just that like for a little bit of time it's unfortunate that it's coming in this series kers really put him behind the the the eightball here with start you know not his fault he's h i get it but um this changes the strategy for the rest of the of the series and you know that's what I think Matt that's what you're saying is that a guy like Knack or a guy like reesi somebody might if they're not pitching well might have to eat it for another inning or two than if everybody was fully rested that might not happen um one other thing to point out and this is courtesy of the chat I don't know a lot of people mentioned this name Brent Honeywell is another name who's in the organization the Dodgers do have an open spot on the 40-man roster by my counting I'm looking everywhere I look they have 39 guys on the 40-man roster so they very easily could add Honeywell back to the 40-man roster and then put him up if a guy like Joe Kelly or Anthony Bond was the second iil move and Honeywell Fitz um he has not pitched for the dodgers for a while um his last outing was August 27th he's thrown two or more Innings basically if you look at his entire since July 3 first on it's two to three and two3 innings so he's a guy that kind of gives you both Major League experience was good up with the Dodgers but also can give you some length so maybe it's casparus and Honeywell maybe it's Honeywell and Grove but I I feel like those three names are probably excuse me the names to watch uh you know going going through uh Nomo pH wants to know did Young Blake step on Kershaw's toe uh that was Bond played a trick on Blake and made him that he had stepped on his toe so um we we'll get we'll we'll send a text to Blake and confirm that it wasn't him Matt yeah maybe maybe Blake did step on Kershaw's toe but the story he gave us was that it was all it was Bond and he was just it was all a prank and this and that but you know we didn't do any digging we didn't do our own research on this so we might have to go back and revisit this situation I heard he was jumping out of the way overreacting to almost stepping on Bond and actually it was more of a two-footed stump from what I from the reports that I have yeah well well as soon as we end this this live stream we'll we'll uh interrogate Blake and you know Blake is Forest Gump he is in the middle of every big thing that happens with this team this season uh Lucas with the Super Chat Roberts was leaving bonda in win or lose three more games uh that is true Evan Phillips was the only guy left in the bullpen and guess who was not warming up or as one person pointed out on Twitter not even moving Evan Phillips was going nowhere bonda gives up four runs easy easy final two outs Max funy pop up little off the end of the bat to teoscar had it under control all the way another Super Chat here from Laura how many win needed how many needed to win the series for the year Scott pointed this out on the little impromptu live we did this morning this is the key I said hey Dodgers split two to two scottt goes no they need to go three and one because if they win three out of four they will take the season series with the Diamondbacks so they came in one game back of the Diamondbacks I believe they lost it was five four and five four and five so if they were to take three out of the four um they would win the season series 7 to six and half the tiebreaker but I mean Anthony what are all these people talking about tiebreakers they're going to win the division by five plus games right that's what I say I mean my I I stand by my call at least five games at least hey look tonight is the night to sort of wear that wear that one proudly because it's uh it's looking pretty good it's looking pretty good um so there you have it I mean again I wrote down some notes the Dodgers threw 172 pitches tonight they used eight different pitchers eight of their nine starters got hits tonight again Muki BET's the only one who did not get a hit which I'm sure some people will make something of um but Otani goes 43 and 43 bonda pitches his third night in a row Will Smith three-run home run five game lead in the division uh you know just a crazy night mookie Bets did reach Base by the way a walk so every single Dodger other than Kik Hernandez who was a pinch hitter reach Bas every starter reach everyone everyone will like this update from Dave uh it's just it's flooding it's flooding the timeline right now Dave said that this is a situ an injury that Kershaw has been dealing with for years perfect perfect uh kersa said he couldn't push off on that leg um so there you go that is wild yeah K's gonna love that he loves big injury updates so saying hey it's been going on for years um that is though very possible Right like bone spurs like they don't go away like they don't dissolve it's it's a piece of bone that's splintered off and it you know it just kind of like floats around right and if it hits something right it's I've never had one knock on wood but from what I've heard it's can be incredibly painful yeah yeah absolutely I'm just looking through the timeline and forgetting oh yeah by the way Freddy Freeman came back there's another whole story line and hit a home run in the in his first inning you know that's right you know that that was I think seven and a half hours ago it might have even been yesterday it might have been yesterday what happened to the pitch clock Matt told me these games are supposed to be fast this game was 3 hours and 20 minutes I feel like every game the Dodgers have played for the past like six weeks have been at least three hours or very close to it and again look I now is not the time to really get into it but the pitch clock when it works like fine but it also created this sense of baseball games have to be fast now and so when they're not it feels like they really drag whereas in the past this was the norm more hour feel but it didn't feel that way like you sat down expecting okay I'm sitting down for this baseball game it's going to be three hours yes your expectations change and so now when they're three hours or longer it feels like man this is really dragging so good job baseball yeah yeah there you go uh Bullpen eight Innings tonight 19 in the third Innings from the bullpen over the last four games bill plunet with that stat um Dave Roberts would be shocked if there aren't multiple moves is the way plunket is reporting that quote so uh there you have it I wonder here Wild Card the the plan was for bruar gradal to face batters tomorrow he's with the team I wonder if the batter Diamond Backs yeah the Batters he's gonna be facing are gonna actually end up being Diamondbacks instead of minor Leaguers okay are you do you think that's seriously in play Matt my my only thing is there's no way they would be willing to stretch him they need guys that they can just let go out there and die that's why it's honey well groven casparus I mean yeah that's fair but also Gavin Stone's going to give you at least six Innings tomorrow so you know he'll he'll allow a couple runs or or do a another scoreless uh outing from him so you get that length you get an inning he's going at least six Matt yeah you're right he's going at you get an inning from uh graterol and then you you figure out the rest Evan Phillips maybe he gets you four or five outs please elaborate on you figure out the rest Ryan brazer he has pitched a lot but I think tonight he's been pretty he's been pretty efficient and so maybe they say tonight right yeah they say Hey you know we're sorry but you gotta you gotta go out there again tonight welcome back bud yeah Gavin Stone seven innings in each of his last two starts for what it's worth and that was 90 pitches and 80 pitches so um he has not thrown less than 80 pitches in a game since July 10th and that was he threw seven he hasn't thrown less than 77 pitches in a game since June 8th so I mean again 77 pitches that doesn't tell you how far he got into the game but clearly they're willing to to go there and let's be honest like tomorrow's not going to be a throwaway game but if it's five to nothing in the third inning it's going to be hey thanks Gavin uh go get him keep keep it up Gavin you know like sorry about the season the ER and what this might do to you because that's just the nature and again I think that just sort of Landing the plane here is why this game was so important to win it's why this game was so important to win because it's it's honestly like because of what they had to go through and because they won game one there's a there's a sense of like it's all gravy from here on out now it's not going to GNA feel like that on the Sunday Night Live show it's not going to feel like that on the Monday postgame show but just like the fact that they are going to leave this series with the divisional lead and two games and all things considered what they went through tonight with the bullpen like it's the the key is the stretch run and the key is being healthy for October and so I think I think there's something to kind of this this is a pivotal win and I know it was crazy but I just mean they went into Arizona they lost their starting pitcher in the second inning their second lever came in and threw 45 pitches and was an AB disaster and they still won against Arizona the hottest team in baseball scored 10 runs in their place like all of those things Anthony to me are like exclamation points at the end of a sentence yeah absolutely look we they came in they knew this was a big deal you know Kershaw couldn't get out of the second inning um we we sort of then we watched them poured on with the offense and the bullpen you know even Joe Kelly like for his for as ugly as the outing was he didn't give up the whole bag right like he so he kept him in the game and and then Banda at the end was just like bro just give us something please right and and you know people in the chat have said it and and Matt I think maybe you were the one who mentioned they were they were gonna live or die with him tonight like yeah there was no way they were G to let Phillips touch it so uh you know the go the job got done and we're having this is obviously a big part of the show tonight because it's it's a big part of what this rest of the season outlook is you know for now for the immediate future but Stone could put this all to rest tomorrow yeah you know he goes six and a third six and two third seven Innings something like that gives up three or less eight shuty baby hand the ball to Evan Phillips yeah dude and I mean they could come out of here with the roster looking the way it does I should say the pitching staff looking the way it does yeah and win the first two games on the road in Arizona with this team trying to climb up their back and steal the division that would be an absolutely massive massive morale boost just for I think for everybody anybody who roots for the daughters anybody in that Dugout anybody in that front office that is huge and like I said earlier that would go a long way in showing maybe this team does have that dog in them that it takes sometimes to win in October that you know let's be honest people have questioned if they've had it in the in the runs that have ended short of expectations uh you know so if if they are able to go out and do that tomorrow man that's that's huge that that's that's sort of like a season defining 24hour stretch Clayton Kershaw speaking uh Sports in La uh quote no matter what I did I couldn't really find a way to push off tonight so um you know just echoing everything that has been said confirming the uh the big toe injury there um but I I think it says something the fact that he is standing before the media Matt and you know that that again is just more proof to me that he's acknowledging the injury he's confirming the injury and uh you know maybe maybe Matt was on to something Matt deserves some credit for believing the Dodgers when they gave us an injury update I saw something on Twitter that said uh Kershaw has has major uh I'm just here so I don't get fine vibes there you go there you go yeah I mean I I I went into it thinking like you know hopefully it is actually his toe and not you know the back or shoulder or something else but now hearing like that it's a bone spur like that changes my calculus a little bit although on the other hand he's been dealing with this offen on for multiple years so no big deal it's just it flared up on him for whatever reason tonight uh and real quick the other thing Jee I do want to push back you know you're were saying brought up Monday night show Anthony and I are expecting a series sweep and our show on Monday night's going to be great you know make sure you get Daniel's broom sent over to you before that one then we'll need that I'll have to pack it with me yeah please please uh let's get to some questions let's get to some thoughts let's get to let's hear from you chat what's going through your head give us headlines give us anything you got uh we'd love to interact again crazy night uh you know I I think most of Dodgers Twitter was uh was in full-fledged panic mode for most of this game if you had just watched Twitter and not the game you would have thought that the season had ended that somehow they lost four games in the standings tonight but instead they actually won came back and uh you know against all LS in many ways and hung on despite the fact everything that was happening so uh crazy stuff but uh we we appreciate it Laura says we're exhausted um I think I think there's some some ability to relate that might just be because it was a three- hour and 20 minute game and it's 45 minutes later than we were expecting to be on here uh but you know at the same time yeah I get it emotionally an absolute roller coaster uh BK wants to know why use copc in the sixth inning yeah we a talking point um Anthony I mean any thoughts like was it a leverage thing was it a spot in the lineup thing I'll be honest with you I truly didn't understand it I think he faced the bottom of the order Matt is that right Jeff I'd have to double yeah I'd have to double check I I lost out of the 140 some odd pitches six hours ago Anthony can't expect us to just know that off the top of our head yeah yeah Newman Herrera Pomo Peterson and guriel bottom bottom and then it flipped flipped over yeah yeah those are real players by the way Newman that he's a that's a real player in case you're wondering also yeah I just so it's 8 n 8 n one two and three basically because kind I truly didn't understand it maybe he wanted to get him in early so that way he would have more time to recover for tomorrow I mean hell if I know it was just it was weird it really was um they weren't in a situation I thought where like it wasn't necessarily a super high s High leverage situation um so seeing him come in there yeah because it was six six to five when he came into the game in the bottom of the sixth and like shutdown inning maybe I mean like they talk about that the Dodgers had just taken the lead is it like Hey we're not going to let this thing Fester we're going to we're going to shut this thing down and not let him crawl right back you know it feels it feels like you know I wasn't there so I wasn't looking into the bullpen but a guy like copc especially when he's used to pitching late in the game if I would think you would have to get him up pretty early so like that's mapped out it's not like oh hey we just took the lead this inning get copc up and then he has to get loose in a hurry right like it it feels like a guy like that especially coming in in a role where he's probably not expecting to pitch in when the day starts uh it feels like you got to let him know that sooner rather than later in that top half of the inning yeah yeah I mean in I've tried I've tried to sort of dice this up and like make it make sense um I I'm I'm I don't have anything really Matt any guesses from you the only thing that I was going to uh say was yes I think it was like a we have the lead again let's like kind of stem off some potential rally by the Diamondbacks but then to Anthony's point like you have to plan that and that's not necessar like it wasn't like they scored three runs right and like kind of built this long inning to where it's looking like okay we're about to score these two threee runs let's get copc up to protect the lead so like that kind of shoots my own argument like I mean here here's one other thought like so it's six to five at that point I think there's a world where the Dodgers map it out and say copc Hudson Tran Phillips close this game out four Dudes and the only reason they go to bond is because they have a four-run lead at that point and they figure and the reason they didn't go to Phillips in the end is because they wanted to leave one guy untouched for tomorrow so I I I mean I do think there's enough interchangeability with Hudson trying Phillips and cop I mean again I think copc should be the closer period but I think those guys are kind of in the same tier that I could see a world where Dave's looking and saying I need 12 outs and it's three outs three outs three outs three outs from these four Dudes now I don't know why you wouldn't go to like Hudson in that spot and then copc with for the two three four of the lineup that's the part that's confusing but we're all throwing just stuff at the wall to see if uh to see if anything sticks Brian did ask by the way is it normal for bonda to pitch this much every game in sometimes multiple Innings Eric Steven had a great piece up 42 bond has now pitched backtack times 13 times he's done that and he has now pitched in 42 of 86 games that was actually coming into today so he's thrown in 43 of 87 games literally 50% of the games he's been on the Dodgers roster he's been in uh again he's the first Dodgers pitcher All Season to throw three days in a row and it was not a short out tonight Nate by his own doing so kudos to him by the way kudos to him yeah and he's handled it Fant fantastically um doc has a little Joe Tori in him where mean he's gonna he's going to ride a reliever into the ground and it feels like this year it's it's it's him it's bonda well hey he's not in the ground yet baby I think the uh what I started to see going I don't know if it was in the chat or maybe on Twitter right before we hopped on is people are calling him rubber Bond now because of that's amazing that's great that's a great nickname that like so good uh NS wants to know honestly you guys were pooping bricks in the ninth right Matt you said no com cool collected never a doubt I was not worried about tonight's game at all because regardless of the result you were going to look at the NLS standings and there was going to be one team in first place and there was going to be one team not in first place so is it better that the Dodgers won absolutely but have they lost you know hey pack it up get them get them tomorrow uh Ivy wants to know does bondas performance tonight make you lose trust in him or does he get a pass 100% a pass for me Anthony you agree I I'll tell you what I not it's not only does he get a pass but it makes me like him more battles back after giving up four runs and gets those final two outs throwing 97 this guy is gassed he took the ball he wore it when it wasn't going well and he got him through the inning and and you know helped him get the win I mean you know it's not going to look great when you look back at like game logs or something like that but context matters in these situations yeah and and this line tonight for him is dripping with context uh you know I I I like him I think that you know back to what I said earlier like you know this grinder mentality that this team is is sort of starting to show now since it's especially since it's gotten Healthy Look it helps when your best players are are back in the lineup and like so obviously that's a big deal but uh you know there that part of it is contagious too right like yeah you start to get this ball rolling a little bit in the right direction and then guys are like you know what yeah hey if you need me I'm there and that's kind of what bronda did tonight man and and uh you know again not going to look great on the final line score but uh what he did given the situation I think he should be commended for it because uh I think in a normal situation there's no they probably don't give him the ball yeah yeah no I'm with you uh Erin wants to know is glass now done for the season or what Matt I I joked about all the different story lines there actually was a bunch of injury updates that we got from Dave Roberts pregame including Tyler glass now so uh run us through I believe there was a glass Now update uh a grat all update so talk us through what we heard from Dave pregame yes so if you've been keeping track of the glass now Saga it went from uh not doing great to the next day doing great or good however it was worded uh the real in all seriousness the big test was another big test was today Friday out at Chase Field glass now did play catch Dave Roberts said that it went well the plan is for him to play catch again on Saturday so and kind of continue with his throwing progression from there so assuming glassow doesn't have any sort of like setbacks or discomfort which he did the first time after playing catch like he should be able to keep going uh so Aaron to your question specifically Dave Roberts was asked directly like it can he can the Dodgers like definitively state that glass now will pitch again this season and he said quote we're hopeful and that article and the video is up on our website Dodger bl.com so you could go read all about that there uh it doesn't look like he's done for the season but would I be fully shocked if something happens and that is the case not really that's not a confidence inspiring take that doc had nothing is nothing is it's never confidence inspiring that's that's you got to put it in context of Dave Roberts updates you know uh the other one grat all like I joked about earlier in the show the plan is for gral to to throw live BP tomorrow uh I guess you know I'm half kidding when I say say maybe he's going to be facing batters in in a Major League baseball game unexpectedly uh and the other one is Yamamoto he's going to throw a bullpen session I believe on Sunday and then he's gonna make another Rehab start with Oklahoma City on Tuesday the plan for that one is to be three Innings and then a fourth inning in the bullpen uh and then the Dodgers before Kershaw's injury the plan was to then discuss if Yamamoto would make a third Rehab start or just join the rotation spoiler alert as long as Yamamoto is feeling healthy he's making one more Rehab start and coming back to the Dodgers and I felt that way even before you know Kershaw's uh bsur which has apparently been going on for you know multiple years and we did actually get another update just now from Bill plunket let me pull it up really quick uh Bill plunet tweeted that cers shot was typically not forthcoming about the injury he didn't say bone spur didn't say when it became an issue or how long he's been dealing with it yeah um yeah there you go he said no matter what I did I couldn't find a comfortable way to push off on my toe super frustrating obviously to put the team in a really tough spot having the bullpen cover eight Innings so um yeah there you go that's the latest we got on Kershaw um let's see uh thunderpants any chance gonlin makes it back for the playoffs Matt uh I I'll I'll quote Dave Roberts the door is uh not closed or the door is slightly open or however he worded it um I don't see it but hey I guess if if enough injury if Kershaw isn't available if glow isn't available if enough things happen and they go full full on Bullpen games in the nlds then maybe Tony gonsin factors into that somehow uh Lucas wants to know Anthony do Joe Kelly and Clayton Kershaw make the playoff roster I didn't think Kershaw was gonna make it okay and just if if everybody if if Health was normalized I don't I think out okay um look with Kelly man he he he's so streaky right like he's got a lot of like if you're an LA Sports Fan he's he's got a lot of D'Angelo Russell in him where like when the GU when the guy's right for 10 days oh man the heater is he looks like an allar it is so it's it's it's man it's addictive and then when he's so bad it's like why do we even have this guy on our team yeah how's he the it's a it's a great comp it's a great comp and so if he catches one of those heaters in late September he's on the roster yeah and look I I honestly feel like he probably's on it anyway I mean he would he would have to just be I mean absolute hot garbage in September and don't get me wrong he's had stretches where he has been that but then he's also bounced back and he's been good for stretches you know if he if he shows out in September and post a you know 17 ra he's on the roster if he post a 9 ER then probably not yeah I think that there's I think they're they're they're managing this roster with a little bit different intent than they have in the past where like guys like Kershaw guys like Kelly who would normally be shuin because of like their veteran status and all their contract situ all that kind of stuff right Clubhouse situation they'd be in but I think they're they're doing this differently this year I think they see the window which was once wide open starting to close and which is why they went out and got Otani and why they got glass now and why they traded for FL all that stuff right yeah the Hayward situation is part of that as well so I think that if those guys aren't performing they're not there and if if you're making me say it right now I say Kershaw's out I have a hunch that Kelly is probably in but those things change series the series so it's not and if they do want a long man or if they do want a guy like roesy Kelly seems to be the easiest of the major league arm so Matt I'll just come to you rapid fire Joe Kelly on the playoff roster yes or no no Clayton Kershaw on the playoff roster yes or no well I mean Health permitting but yeah like if he's able to pitch yes because I don't think they're G to have enough other starting options I'm I I would agree with you Matt I would say yes to Kershaw no to Kelly 300 let's let's I want to go back to that one just a sec cu do have a like a a a real question yeah not a snark question if they are all healthy you don't think they have enough in the rotation that that they would skip Kershaw I think it'd be a conversation I mean Gavin Stone the way he's pitching I think it's I think Kershaw and stone would be are the two guys that are sort of In Contention I think ber and Bobby Miller are are far enough behind I think that we would need to see like the trajectory they on would have to be unabated like continued at the same tra and then I think you're projecting a lot of heal like everything has to go right with GL now Yamamoto andity and I just still think and I'm not saying like this is what they should do or it gives them the best chance to win yeah the ti is gonna go to Kershaw in my opinion interest okay yeah interesting I mean I I don't I don't I don't necessarily have an opinion or or a push back on that I I think if everybody's healthy it makes it really hard to put him in in my opinion because I think stone is probably the guy who takes that spot I mean even like the question is like how bad I think then what's the Tipping Point because let's say Kershaw he's dealing with this and you know he's still making starts yeah but how bad does he have to be to hit that point totally fair totally fair and that's that's what we're all trying to project is this start was bad his last start was bad the two starts before that were good and so projecting kind of whether we're on an upswing or a downswing a month from now with any of these guys because if we're being honest we're in the same place with Gavin Stone a month ago and Walker ber looks a lot better Bobby Miller is looking better so you know I will say this the way they love Bobby Miller if he's pitching well I could see them giving him the ball well we'll see we'll see yeah we'll see I mean I I I I think all these guys are in play I think all these guys are in play I think the one certainty we can draw from this is our October live streams are going to be great there be some thoughts thought uh 300 Kelly Kershaw needs the I so we can get an arm up here tomorrow wish Honeywell was on the 40 Man crazy Joe is a nut job um again I I I I don't think I realized this but they do have an open spot on the 40 man roster right now so Honeywell I think is very much in play to be a guy who gets called up if there is a second iil move I think Joe Kelly and Anthony Bond would both be ripe for injury injured list uh appearances and you know so we'll see we'll see how that plays out uh Godfrey I know these guys are grown men getting paid millions of dollars but the mental aspect of the game is real copc being in closer role and then put today in the sixth inning really messes with your mindset Matt what do what do you think about this like do you think a guy like copc who who's kind of new to the closer role but felt like he had kind of established himself in that do you think it's challenging for a guy like that because he gets through a scoreless inning but it wasn't perfect yeah I think you know there is something to what Godfrey is saying I think the Dodgers in General though have also implemented for better or worse this approach of hey like as Blake puts it your role is when we tell you to pitch yeah when we say hey you're going in in the sixth inning tonight that's your role if it's the eighth inning tomorrow that's your role uh I think in Co with copc specifically it's a little bit of a tougher cell because he's so new to the organization I didn't follow him enough with the wh sock I mean I don't know that anybody follow the white socks uh to you know sit here and say like oh he's accustomed to being kind of Y in and out of different scenarios so for copc specifically I think that could be a little bit of a challenge because things were trending towards him becoming the closer as much as Dave Roberts kept saying like no we're not naming him the closer he's not the closer like it was looking that way and I think the three of us agreed that it makes sense to put him in that role put Evan Phillips back in a fireman let Blake Tron be a second fireman for you and figure everything else out uh but yeah I mean I I think there is something to what Godfrey is bringing up the thing with this is that I think it probably ends up being a smooth road if for some reason now no I don't I don't know how you predict Kershaw not getting through the second inning but unless he went to I think copc understands he's not the go-to ninth inning guy's he's not and and that tonight was just a weird night like I every every single person that came in to pitch for the Dodgers was put into an uncomfortable situation literally every single person except for maybe trying correct correct however however when those situations arise as a manager you do try to put guys in positions where they're at least most comfortable given the situation six inning bottom of the order probably's not that situation and to my earlier point about not knowing if kers you know not knowing cerick Kershaw going an inning plus is that he would have had to go in to a guy like copc before the game and said hey just heads up we could we could usee you at any point after the fifth inning tonight just wanted to get wanted to let you know that so you're prepared if he doesn't say that and then he he get the phone rings and he gets that call I could see that being a little bit of a like yeah WTF as he's getting his glove and putting his shoes on because one thing that these guys you know you mentioned like you you know your job is to your role is to pitch when we tell you to that's all fine and good to say that's not how clubhouses work yeah and I I just think I I mean I agree with every part of this they getting paid millions of dollars the mental aspect of the game is real totally agree their starting pitcher went out in the second inning like there's no chance that I just refuse to believe that Michael copc is down there in the bullpen and he's pissed off when his name gets called because I think he's saying all hands are freaking on deck and then some like there's dudes that are like getting asked and I would say you know one other I'll just throw one other Theory out there remember that copc like a week ago Dave was like he's been overused he pitched back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday is it possible that Dave was like he's pitched two days had one day off I need to go to him today so I'm gonna go8 n and one because I don't want to stress him out with two3 and four I I I don't know I I'm just saying like the idea I think these guys understand the situation and had other guys down though that he was trying to stay away from so that sort of makes that part of it h because if this what is he really going to give the ball to Evan Phillips if this is three run or less lead in the ninth inning or I mean I don't think he used Tran and Hudson in the seventh and eighth and it's not to say that was pissed off about it you know I don't mean to say that but it's an uncomfortable situation now it's very possible Kershaw went out as soon as they got him Dave went into the Dugout you got Kelly warming up he calls the bullpen and says tell every body to put their shoes on everyone's on high alert now that's he probably doesn't even need to make that phone call right like that's my point is like I don't think he even needs to make that phone call I think they're all looking at each other and the bullpen is like hey boys we got this thing tonight they need eight Innings from us tonight in the biggest game of the season it's on us let's freaking go like let's freaking go and I think yeah I think all of that is certainly plausible and I the bigger thing to is to Anthony's point about the Dodgers you know if they didn't go to copc and say hey like we might use you a little earlier tonight typee thing like that could throw a wrench into plans I will say several relief pitchers have kind of unprompted like when they're asked about oh like you know did you know when you'd be in do say that the Dodgers do a great job of letting them know like what the the verbiage they use the lanes like what lanes are theirs and when they might come into a game so I think my guess also is that they probably went into tonight's game I would hope that if well not hope I don't think that Kershaw's toe like was SP what pardon the pun was like spur the moment like oh man all of a sudden this is that's a brutal one Matt that's a 12 out of 10 pun right there it wasn't on purpose but I felt like if I didn't acknowledge it that that was going to be worse uh I don't think it was necessarily a surprise there you go and so I I do I do think that like heading into tonight the relievers knew hey like this could be a short start things could get all jumbled and then Jeff to your point I don't think that needs to even be explained to them like once Kershaw's out in the second in sitation comes up obvously a like it's obviously a scramble tonight and everybody just kind of be ready and to Matt's last thing on this for me but to Matt's point about these guys saying like the Dodgers do a really good job of of keeping them informed and you know here are your lanes that's why Dave has this job yeah it's not the X's and O's you know we know that and and you know who comes in when and all that stuff it's it's not that it's communication it's the reason why guys in the clubhouse like to play for him uh it's why he's had this job for as long as he's had and it's why he'll keep it for however long he keeps it for it's again it's not the strategy it's not you know he knows exactly when to take a reliever out or a starter out you know I mean the years are full of columns part some of them that I've written talking about how it's so flawed in that in that regard but the reason Dave Roberts has a job like it or Not For Better or For Worse is because he can communicate with these guys and they have an insane amount of respect for him yep agreed agreed agreed Luis ask with the Super Chat here Kershaw cannot face the Diamondbacks ever again they own him uh this was funny I went back and looked PRI heading into basically last year's postseason so you know whatever two or two starts since then uh in 45 games Kershaw was 23 and 12 with a 2.8 ra and 300 strikeouts and 270 Innings so I mean yes this is an awful start in the nlds unequivocally he looked terrible tonight injury or not uh but I'm not I'm not ready to say that like after 47 games the last two dictate whether or not he's owned or not owned by this franchise yeah I I agree but I what I will add though is that uh Chase Field is the only stadium that Kershaw has a career losing record at so it's and it's not I think it's like8 11 yeah so you know what doip what does FIP in Chase Field though Matt the talk to talk to me more about batting averages mat the computer didn't spit out the FIP it said cannot compute my computer I have I have blocks on my computer it knows not to even go down that path leave it to the guy who makes the dad pun to bring up win loss record oh he loves it it's all on brand with Matt I love it I love it shout out to cat Cruz by the way in the chat uh kudos to you uh all right I think that's gonna do it for us folks a crazy might have had did we get all the super chats I just want to make sure check check me on that one I thought we did okay yeah I think did we get noisy ninjas what do the Dodgers do with Joe Kelly at this point do you have this one oh there we go uh yeah well uh this was an I mean oh this wasn't a super chat but not a super chat noisy ninja is a regular super chatter so we appreciate it I mean I I starred this one Matt because look I don't think he's getting DFA but I read this and I was like I don't think it's a z% chance Joe Kelly's pitched for the last time in 2024 like I I I don't think that's like completely off the table I don't think it's DFA but I could see this being hey you're the guy that's going to be the IL stint and then two weeks from now there's not really an obvious person to take off the roster he did already have his shoulder issue so that could be back there you go it could be it might be who knows uh oh we did have one we did have one food question there we go yeah yeah yeah somebody asked if we're uh if we're barbecuing for uh for Labor Day yeah are we grilling or not grilling on Labor Day this weekend uh Matt go ahead just tell the people what you're doing this week weekends well no I don't want to throw I mean I'm I feel bad because it means like I'm going to an Aon concert uh no I will be in Las Vegas so I can't I won't be grilling uh but I think grilling on Labor Day is is a big obvious yes especially college football season has started and so you know sit down and watch the best uh football sport in the world wait Anthony yeah I don't know if we who's your college football team I have a bad feeling you agree with Matt yeah that's oh there we go all right it's too bad it's too bad uh I will actually be so I'm going on a trip that's like a golf trip and so it's the these guys basically it's like unlimited golf for three days thanks for the invite yeah there's a couple guys on this group trust me I'm the guy who got invited on this trip was definitely not planning but these are the guys that it's like how many holes can we play it's not like oh you know maybe we play 18 take a break play nine it's like if we start at 10: we could play 36 and then we'll see what happens so uh my labor day will will consist on driving a golf course literally actually we have to drive out there and then it's like so it's like a three and a half hour drive then it's 36 holes of golf uh probably wrapping up around 6 PM so from what I gather guys don't even really want to be standing up at the end of those days and then we're doing 36 36 again the next day and then it's like 18 and driving home on day three so uh short version there is I imagine there will be no grilling for me Anthony are you going to salvage this yeah I got uh I I played some golf today after you cut out a little bit early this afternoon from work and uh went to the course got 18 in went to the meat market afterward got the three ribe eyes and uh I will smoke those tomorrow probably around game time uh so I'll be I'll be that'll be dinner um during the game and then I also saw one that asked what am I drinking tonight uh it's Friday night it's late aren't you what what weren't you drinking tonight is maybe the better question Anthony it's a squirt and KAS Amigos there you go is KAS Amigos the Rocks one cloony cloony okay yeah sorry which most celebrity tequila is is kind of ass but the the Clooney one is pretty good I've heard the Rocks is good too that's what somebody told me I mean it's not bad it's not it's not kindall Jenner I got no com that does that does actually have a lot of like good review I haven't tried it but uh it is popular yeah Kendall Jenner actually good Anthony you'll know yeah that's true is Kendall Jenner tequila actually good no I mean I didn't think so no oh I haven't I've heard people like I've heard a lot of people saying that it was I I can't vouch for it myself somebody wants to know if we've tried Ryan Reynolds what he does vodka jyn right JY yeah isn't he is Aviation or Aviator yeah yeah May Aviation yeah I will say I'm like I'm I'm I'm the guy that goes in and buys like what's the stuff that's a half Step Above like coming in a plastic bottle that's me so I'm because I'm mostly like it's it's a splash of lime juice it's ice I do Jin or I do tequila and I joke with my wife because I go in I buy two of the big bottles like every six months and it's just like three or four drinks a week and then like splash of lime juice is covering up whatever we got you know so there we go nice what's what I got that's that's my deal uh on that note oh there you go oh no cazadoras Reposado is a good cheap teil yeah Anthony real quick let's do a tequila thing rep I do like repad and then what's the other one that's like tequila but it's made out of something slightly different Mescal Mescal yeah yeah yeah so talk me through give me the rankings of those situations Blanco versus Reposado versus MC I'm not a big Mescal fan um just even the mild ones are are too it's too harsh the Smoky it reminds me of like it's like drinking a cigar to me oh gosh that's the wor sales pitch that anybody not that you're giving me a sales pitch but somebody said it's like drinking a cigar it's like yeah I will pay not to have that experience we're not getting any missall sponsorships on for the big boys I mean look hey some people some people dig it man and I'm not mad at them they're like uh they're like Anthony bond for me you know I might not like the results but you go and do you buddy there you go you know I and if you're talking you know Reposado and I I stay away from Blancos if it's Blanco tequila we're putting squirt in it we're putting uh mango juice in it we're doing something there uh and then uh there are some really good reposados that you can drink like on the rocks and then if I have an I keep mostly anos at the house uh I know what that is we we're sipping those bud we're sipping those what's in yo that's the longest age tequila so it's like it'll be the smoothest for you okay all right well next time maybe maybe we'll we'll try that I did have a funny food experience by the way uh where I was tonight was a buffet situation and I won't explain all the details but Matt I I thought of almost sending a text out because so it was Caesar salad great some roasted veggies broccoli cauliflower great then it was like noodles but it was basically like fetuccini noodles and then right next to it was chicken parmesan I've never seen fetuccini alfredo and chicken alfredo right next to each other that's my that's my preferred like pasta with uh chicken parm like you the chicken parm breast with the red sauce like you make that normal but like the instead of doing a spaghetti I'd prefer it with fetuccini it's good it's good with alfredo though yeah fetuccini Alfredo okay so you want white sauce here and red sauce here yeah and then like if the chicken kind of mixes with the pasta a little bit Alfredo is way better pasta than spaghetti with like or or red sauce like I'm I'm easy on that one here we go for it Anthony no I mean hey you know that that sounds fine like that's not a as long as you're not putting mayonnaise on it I'm good you're fine there okay good we're clear they were like basically chicken strips the the chicken parmesan was basically chicken strips with some red sauce and mozzarella cheese I'm like you know what you put enough mozzarella on there and uh I'll eat pretty much anything so we we all know that if you watch that show on that note everybody thank you for joining us I know I did think of Blake and and the chicken farm and I almost sent him a picture but uh you know anyways I didn't want to I didn't want to bum him out that I was eating chicken parmesan and he was not uh and no definitely based on the fact that I just said somebody said did was it real and Joey dressing uh heck no it was chicken strips with mozzarella so the Caesar salad was you know basically everything that you're imagining so this is this is a good way to end the W on a Friday night you go there you go we're learning about tequila we're talking about chicken parmesan on top of fed Alfredo and uh you know good stuff DOD R rubber Bond rubber Bond that's an elite nickname I like it it's an elite nickname so hey everybody thank you for joining us uh an hour and 20 minutes in 2300 people in here for a 10 to nine Dodgers Victory tons of story lines again show Otani the first player in major league history 43 home runs and 43 steals in the same season with plenty of time to go still on Pace to go over 5050 I believe you've got Will Smith you know sort of breaking out of a slump with a three-run home run three balls that were absolutely smashed something he's been doing pretty consistently for the last couple weeks of course Clayton Kershaw the big storyline expected to go on the injured list potentially a reliever going on the injured list but the Dodgers win five-game lead in the division they will leave Arizona with at minimum a two-game lead in the division and still have plenty of time in the next three days to take the season series from Arizona as well that is Matthew Moreno that is Anthony wado check out Dodger bl.com if you're new
