DodgerHeads Postgame: Shohei Ohtani 40-40 in Dodgers walk-off win! Confidence in Bobby Miller?

e M [Applause] magic do of one and all High Fly ball into right field she is gone he struck him out two balls at a strike the count on Taylor re fires swinging a Drive De left down it's [Music] [Applause] [Music] his what's up everyone welcome into Dodger Heads live presented by Dodger blue.com part of the bluewire podcast Network my name is Jeff spel joined tonight by Anthony wado Anthony I gotta start with Bobby Miller and I'm just kidding Jo walk off Grand Slam 40th home run after 40th steal when he came up it was like come on this is how they would have written the movie script Anthony and yet show Otani is pretty much a movie at this point I mean it's unbelievable I you know I was frustrated uh I thought Will Smith probably should have scored twice or at least tried to have scored twice um you know so that was a little that kind of irked everybody I think I saw the people on social media also saying basically the same stuff and then uh you know a nice PA that back there from Max and then you get the man coming up and wow I mean did not waste any time either uh just unbelievable as soon as it left the bat I didn't know for sure it was gone and but as soon as it left the bat I knew it had a chance and I just watched the outfielders and kind of what their body reactions were and uh man unre way to do it absolutely I can't imagine a more dramatic uh cap to 4040 season uh than that that was just absolutely amazing to see yeah uh Otani becomes just the sixth member of the 40 stolen base 40 home run club and he did it you know dramatically faster than basically every other player who has ever done it um no other guy has done this before mid-september basically and Otani we're sitting here and it's you know August 23rd otan does it he gets the steal earlier he gets the home run late I I mean look the the 4040 alone Anthony would have been like a a 45 minute segment on this show the walk-off home run would have been a 45 SE minute segment of on the show a grand slam would have been a 25 minute segment on the show he did all three of them at the same time he a walk off he hit a grand slam and oh by the way makes history in the process uh I just there's nothing to say like I tweeted it out folks this guy pitches too like like we're talking about one of the greatest offensive seasons ever by a d by a dude who like six months from now is going to be throwing 97 M hour fast balls on days when he's not hitting it's incredible stuff for him and the moment like there was this nonsense about he's not clutch there was this nonsense about like you know like is this slump is he gonna break out of it and he answers every single question every single time uh this team battles back from down three to nothing they win seven to3 and you know again the Otani stuff is insane um you you kind of were just joking about it I mean we're you know four what 40 games left in the season how many we got after this one you know 35 to 40 games left yeah 10 more home runs like look the steals the steals feel like they're easy it feels like if he's standing on First Base the stolen base is coming for him um at this point the Dodgers are 77 and 52 so uh 33 games left excuse me so 33 games left for Otani look 50 is not out of the question for a guy of otani's caliber if you're looking at like the pace that we're on a home run every three games is about 50 home run pace which is not even like a tear this guy could could get fast hotter faster than that are we serious about 50-50 right now Anthony I I do think it's a still a little bit of a stretch the the stolen bases like you said I think that if he wants it that's a no-brainer um the 50 home runs he he would have to get hot you know we're talking about essentially 10 homers in just a little over a month that you know that's a that's a pretty good Pace that's like Aaron judge that's that's what Aaron judge is doing um so would I be surprised I don't I wouldn't say surprised I think it's just it's probably uh the odds are not in his favor but you know look like a 45 45 45 45 season I mean that's for sure in play yeah absolutely uh Eric Steven with this stat he 129 team games for Otani it's 19 G sooner than the next fastest player that was Alonso Sorano back in 2006 I mean obliterated it absolutely just deol that's an i stint and he's still he's still ahead of the pace you know what we're talking about here and um you look at some of these others numbers um you know nobody nobody has had more than 42 in both categories ever in major league history uh the most home runs was Sorano he got to 46 home runs with 41 stolen bases and then aunia 7 three steals last year but um you know 42 and 46 by Rodriguez is basically the best Mark um you know sort of if you're looking combined outside I mean aunia if we're just looking total number there but I mean to think that nobody has ever Anthony had 4242 40 excuse me 4343 and oton with 33 games to go is is staring down that number uh crazy crazy stuff so we're going to talk about this game but the moment that we just had from Otani has to be acknowledged and I I see some people in the chat and I have to talk about this real quick Anthony too the dude who dropped the ball just over the just over so bad like buy don't look don't look on eBay like don't look on don't read any articles about people telling you how much that ball would have been worth what you could have traded it for in exchange with Otani I mean and he look he had a glove Anthony you can't sh and the Dodgers are happy that they just don't have to go through that again he had a glove Anthony like oh it's so that's that's why you bring hands off the bare hands out there like I've stood in the bleachers lots of people have and watched home run balls come like those things are humming like I I have profound respect for anybody that throws their body in front of a home run ball because even when they get 430 out there like those balls are still humming and so bare hands off the bare hands you get a little bit bit of a break uh no no no no no no break bare hands I'm giving him a I'm giving you a little bit of a break I'm saying you bring your glove to the glove to the stadium and it bounces off the wedding webbing that's I got nothing for you man no break yeah that's that's just his boy he's never gonna live that down yeah I hope I hope he's got a sense of humor because it's he he will not live it down and it's just a matter of how personally he's going to take every single one of those jokes and that that's gonna live in Dodgers history for that's Dodger lore forever yeah uh and he's gonna as long as that guy's a Dodger fan he's gonna have to watch that so many times yeah yeah the 4040 ball obviously is worth something six time ever and then you add the Otani factor in I mean look nobody is gonna be roting slam Factor yeah no no completely completely and nobody is rooting for 5050 harder than that guy because he's like no no no look it wasn't even it wouldn't even in the ball like this guy got to 45 45 5050 like this wasn't even the ball that matters you know Otani didn't even want second base because he's gonna keep going it's yeah somebody Joe de says dude just posted his glove on eBay that's great that's great I mean that's you know maybe maybe you get a few bucks for that hey this is the glove that 4040 bounced off of yeah you know just brutal it's just brutal stuff oh what a finish what a fin finish what a finish let's get to some super chats of course we'll have some more Otani talk uh Hawaiian Kira says it was a movie The Hero are down they make a comeback to get even and finally they come out on top isn't this most hero scripts yeah I mean at some point it's like they wouldn't have they would have been like come on he's not doing 4040 walk-off Grand Slam you know that would have been like a solo home run or something like that or the stolen base is what gets you to 4040 again like this would have been rejected if written as a movie script Anthony yeah yeah I mean the only the only thing that sort of you know I wouldn't say we expected him to do this but like it's this guy's the best player in baseball yeah like what judge is doing is incredible what Bobby Whits doing is is also incredible um but to think that we're only seeing one side of this guy's value right now yeah like seriously like that that's he's he's he's probably not GNA do this again because as long as he's healthy as a pitcher I would imagine that the the stolen base attempts get cut way down way down so I think we're seeing probably the Unicorn season unless he ever decides to unless unless the Dodgers ever decide later down the road to not use him as a pitcher for some reason um this is probably the season that that this happens uh you know and and to see him do this and then to understand like you tweeted we're only seeing half of what this guy's value is right now yeah crazy he did have 20 steals last year by the way by the way at when he was pitching so I'm with you like I'm with you 40 is is crazy and and so maybe it's a Dodgers thing maybe this is a Dodgers thing maybe it's a you're not pitching so knock yourself out um but yeah I mean it's I I want to say that there was a quote that he had like maybe during spring training or early in the season something like that where he acknowledged like yeah since I'm not pitching I do want to run more uh I could be maybe I dreamed it I don't know this this this season is wild so far yeah it's wild it's wild uh Laura with the Super Chat MVP MVP MVP uh look second in the National League in wins above replacement coming into the night only Francisco Lindor ahead of him and you know you have to say Anthony a year ago we all got pissed because the stolen base thing with aunia felt like what propelled him to winning an MVP if that's the case otan is riding that wave all the way to the MVP because it's going to be nothing but Otani 4040 45 45 5050 talk for the next 33 games and so he is going to be front and center on every Major League storyline that takes place so I if he even just like maintains the status quo for the next five weeks I feel like the MVP is worth betting on yeah he's got a week to go this month yeah let's say you know I might talk myself into this he's got a week 33 games man 33 one he needs home run every three games let's say he hits two or three in the next week yeah totally reasonable for him especially if he gets going and he's got like a I don't know what is it like a seven game hit streak I I forgot what the number is but he's starting looks like he's starting to come out of that little Funk he was in at least at least partially um he's hitting the ball hard still like let's let's say two home runs this next week doable right he goes into September with 42 if he gets a little bit warm I mean look again the arum in reach 5050 is in he has not even been swinging the bat well for the last like month it's basically all home runs crazy stuff by the way uh MVP stuff I had no idea I hadn't been paying attention to the betting markets on this otani's minus 1400 for the MVP so apparently there's no race uh Lindor is ahead of him and wins above replacement but if you want Lindor who again is leading the national league and wins above replacement you can get six to odds on Lindor so Lindor will not be winning the he's a New York guy that's the other crazy part like he plays in New York yeah that's wild yeah but it's the Mets I mean that's the it is it is New York yes uh I mean I guess the Mets are you know they're five games over 500 um but yeah I mean it's uh they're out two and a half pack of the wild card I don't know I mean that's crazy minus 14 this is it's still very very early and who knows what happens but like can they can they steal this from him yeah no no otani's winning the MVP like it it's minus 1400 in Vegas Min is400 that's crazy crazy talk Richard uh this is the lineup we've been waiting for amazing not having the Bigos ameds and the OKC Dodgers no longer in the lineup it changes everything um look yes here first exactly we Anthony and I have been saying this for months and you know this team wasn't built to win in May or June or July this team the ideal was to to win in October and you're seeing the lineup tonight uh you know outside of Max Muny for Kik Hernandez who ironically hit this made the second biggest hit of the game this was pretty much the best case scenario lineup in my estimation with Miguel roas in there at shortstop and then again substitute m in for Kik Hernandez but top to bottom I mean Lux draws a walk a couple of times um in big spots there and Edmund gets on in that ninth inning you know Will Smith draws a w like it's just everybody just passing the Baton doing their part and that's you just wear teams down exactly we're talking about this lineup now the way we were talking about it in April it's just so deep it's so um there's just just absolutely no breathing room for the opposing staff you know you feel like you get through somebody and the the next guy up is just yeah he will take you deep if you put leave one in the zone you know like it's just it's it's it's a gauntlet and it's not that they're going to put up seven runs every game it's that like every inning every hitter their stress on the pitcher yeah that adds up right and you go into the fourth inning and the guy's got 87 pitches yeah and it's like I mean they just they wear you down it is just it's just at bat after at bat and you know the Dodgers have preached that since the the Freedman regime has gotten here uh patience at the plate you know wearing guys down having good at bats swinging at good pitches all of that kind of stuff um and it's contagious you know these guys have really taken it to heart and it's why you see the offense being consistently among the top in in Major League Baseball it's because you know that philosophy really does work and they've went out and they've either gotten or they've developed the talent that is able to do it yeah I mean they got the guy who gave up the walk-off home run was the fifth relief pitcher had to come into this game for the Tampa Bay race um and that'll do it every time by the way looking at the box score tonight uh I I don't remember this Freddy Freeman mooki bets 0 for eight tonight and the reason you don't remember that folks is because teoscar Hernandez hit Will Smith hit Edmund two hits Roos hit Lux walk Kik two hit two hits I mean when the bottom of the lineup is reaching base you know eight times nine times uh outside of the top three and oh by the way the guy at the top goes two for five with the Grand Slam I mean like it's that that's that's what it is it's the the leeway that you have for an 0 for four from Freddy Freeman and mie Bets but to have guys at the bottom of the lineup that can sort of make you forget about that is what's absolutely critical to this team being successful and look I've said it all along this team is going to win them with offense like the pitching might be good enough the bullpen might be great the calling card of this team if if everything goes right is going to be this lineup and they score seven runs tonight they reach base 12 times and they're number two and number number three hitters go 0 for eight and and that's that's just what's going to happen we you know when when we were trying to talk people off the ledge for a good two months there about the offense and just sort of the team not being probably what we think they should be a lot of that was look we're putting magnifying glasses on guys who when they have you know two bad nights a week sometimes three bad nights a week aside from the that bottom third of the lineup like those other guys got the magnifying last on him and we said you know oh this guy's not clutch or oh this guy you know he's he can't hit right now and you know who can we trade for him can we go get Willie adamus like all all of that stuff right yeah but again we were talking about a lineup that was super depleted um you know at any given moment had four to five of their top you know six hitters out of the lineup yeah um and so when when the lineup is mostly complete you can have two of your Superstar ninef fig players go 0 for eight and you it's it's an afterthought because the other guys are doing what they're supposed to do absolutely uh pton with the Super Chat who directs the sh Otani movie my money's on Ron Howard uh I just Googled who directed Field of Dreams that guy I'd be okay with that guy directing this one uh the the Otani thing's gonna be I mean it's like you we cannot overstate it feels weird to be hyping up like a particular night with SH Otani because literally everything this guy does like big picture is crazy and yet you have these small small picture moments where you're in real time and it's crazy I mean I love this from from uh beaches here 4040 walkoff Grand Slam great start by Miller we're gonna get to that amazing memory watching this with my son he'll never forget this my 10-year-old daughter who was supposed to be in bed she comes down and uh she came down right before like uh whoever grounded out I'm blanking on names whoever smacked the ball was that lux Lux smacked the ball at the second baseman right oh yeah the yeah the playi may or may not have should have been running but uh that she comes down and I'm like you're definitely supposed to be in bed and and like a long time ago you know and I'm also like you know whatever it's a bottom of the N here get a hit and then of course it's like out walk pitching chains so I'm like great this this two-minute moment of like either they're gonna win or it's GNA go to extras and you get out of here and yet there it is it happens Otani hits it and unfortunately she doesn't have much of an appreciation for baseball it's not her Jam but I'm sitting there and I'm like this is crazy like she got to see this thing that is genuinely only happened six times ever and this guy did it way faster than everybody else like this is a historic moment what we just watched for sure for sure I mean you know we're gonna I we might walk into the stadium in September and there's going to be you know they're going to be rolling up the the huge mural on one side of the stadium or something like that or you know definitely next year something's going to be up to commemorate this we're going to this isn't going to go away in in our memories for a really really long time um and you know that's it's really cool that you got to watch that with your son you know when I when I got to New York um and I was I was doing some Mets beat coverage and then also when I got to Milwaukee and I covered the Brewers both papers asked me to write like an intro column basically introducing myself to the town to the readers that kind of thing yeah um and at both places I wrote about my love for baseball and how the the really first first Sportsman that I can think of was Kurt Gibson's home run and I was I was like seven at the time and that's that's the one that sticks out for me I remember where I was sitting in our living room I remember where my dad was sitting in the living room all of that stuff so like to see that um that that he was watching he or she was watching this with their son that's that's awesome because it might be something that he never forgets yeah it's crazy it's crazy I see somebody in the chat I'm not sure if this is confirmed that the outfielder threw the ball back into the crowd not sure if that's confirmed somebody in the chat is saying that and uh crazy crazy stuff I'm not yeah who knows how that gets authenticated or whatever but if there's video I guess uh quick shout out by the way to everybody joining us we figured it would be a lively one over 3,000 people over 3,100 people in here on Facebook on YouTube on Twitter excuse me thank you for joining us again the Dodgers beat the Rays uh but the storyline walk-off Grand Slam show Otani 4040 Club crazy crazy stuff uh 300 with the Super Chat Bobby Miller pitched really well tonight six Innings from him we're going to get to Bobby Miller I promise you that in just a little bit Andrew McDaniels another Super Chat thank you Andrew for that we appreciate it uh David Garcia Muny at bat set it up I'm gonna be honest Anthony I was terrified I was terrified three that he was gonna be swinging and he wasn't he watched the fast ball down the middle took ball four and you know I don't know like let me ask you this I'm not trying to be negative does he get any credit for that bat like there was not a single pitch that was Within feet of the strike zone other than the three fast right down the middle everything was in the dirt or way above but we also know that those first two pitches there's about half the lineup that would have taken a hack at at least one of those because they weren't he didn't bury him like three feet in front of the plate they were just down in the zone he was trying to snap something off and I mean those balls had a ton of uh vertical yeah and so like Muny was actually a good guy to be in that position because he doesn't swing at crap usually yeah uh you know he's he's one of the guys who sees the most pitches on this roster um so yeah I'll give him credit it was a good at bat like you know he if he swings at one of those pitches and it's one-1 it change it probably changes the app back so yeah I give him credit for um you know especially a guy like him who knows he can hit the ball hard and understanding the situation and saying you know what I'm I'm it's okay if I'm patient here and I just take the free pass yeah because that that also takes aside from like not swinging at those pitches that mentality is a disciplined mentality too that's a big league at back yeah I'm with you by the way Mike DG ofana uh confirming Jose Siri threw the ball back into the bleachers oh my gosh so who knows if the Dodgers are able to would have dropped it again yeah exactly somebody somebody somebody had the luckiest moment of their life and they'll try and figure that thing out as far as authenticating it slash trading it in but crazy crazy stuff um here uh Hawaiian Kira in this movie is Bobby Miller the second main character yes and again Tim G with the Super Chat along the same line six Innings nine strikeouts no walks quality start how do we feel about Bobby Miller now just one start and against the weak offense but it feels positive Paul vaugh with the Super Chat we appreciate all of you guys but we've got lots of these super chats here Anthony so let's just jump straight to it uh Bobby Miller six Innings uh seven hits three earned runs nine strikeouts every Dodgers fan by the way in the exact same boat first inning absolute Miss missile missile out 109 miles an hour off the bat sing what's that I wasn't even so upset at that one like talk to me he he threw the it was 100 m hour fast ball up out of the Zone not many guys get to that yeah I mean that that's a hard pitch to get wood on and that guy hit it out like one of the best prospects in all of Major League basball all of baseball that's kind of one where you go okay I understand why that gu so you know I understand why his ceiling is so high more than it was like Bobby Miller made a mistake there later later in the game those were on him but you know that first one I was like well not a great start for a guy who needs Positive Vibes though that was that that was sort of my feeling on it that was my point is it's like if you're if you're just crossing your fingers that we get a new Bobby Miller tonight and then you see the first inning missile you're like you got to be kidding me like we're just replaying this movie and yet on the whole like lots to like about Bobby Miller a couple things I wrote down Anthony as I was watching this game um that kind of stood out to me as far as just what we got out of Bobby Miller tonight um one of them was we talked about you know like he's just got to have pitches that are competitive and we saw that tonight I posted this on Twitter um last time out he threw just 45% of his pitches in the zone tonight that number jumps up to 53% okay so that's one number so 8% more of your pitches are in the zone which is going to factor in the second was last week a week ago he had one pitch that was in the zone more than it was out of the zone as Sinker he had one pitch that was a strike more than 50% of the time tonight four pitches were strikes more than 50% of the time his fast ball has change up his curve his Sinker so he's throwing more strikes more of the different types of pitches are strikes if you see change you have to take it seriously if you see curve you have to take it seriously if you see fastball you have to take it seriously here's what happens last time out 22% of the time he missed out of the Zone he got a swing 22% of the time that was 38% tonight yeah 16% more of his Miss pitches got swung at because people had to take him seriously to me that's what jumped out is everything had to be taken seriously and when you have to take all of those pitches all five of his pitches seriously he becomes far more dangerous yeah you know that that tells a little bit of the tale too with like the zero walks yeah because the seven hits are not great nope and if you sprinkle in three walks in this outing tonight we might be having an entirely different conversation about Bobby Miller yeah than the one we're having I think the fact that he was able to not walk anybody made the seven hits not as devastating yeah you know this very easily could have been a you know four inning four five Run start yep absolutely and we're talking about this you know we we view it very differently but I think the fact that he was at least able to keep that part of the of of his game in check um is is Big it's big for him and I think you saw the last two innings his body language was very different than it has been yeah almost this entire season and and with and the first uh four Innings of this start yeah you know and it's probably more so first three last CU he retired nine of his last 10 batters that he faced and the last four were via strikeout so I think he gives up that home run double and home run in the third and pretty much as soon as he comes back after that he's a totally different guy fourth fifth and sixth he retires nine out of 10 guys he faces yeah and I was watching him between pitches between batters after strikeouts after getting outs and he just had like it was a different if it was a different looking Bobby Miller like he kind of had the LeBron shrug going on like you know he was doing that after strikeouts like it he I think he felt a lot better and and not just because of the results it just it just seemed like he felt a lot better about the the stuff he was throwing up there um you know we mentioned this on on social and and the Super Chat just mentioned it that you know little bit of a weaker lineup um you know the seven hits aren't great but you know what I said it I said it when the game started we don't need him to be great right now we just need something to hang a little Hope on and he gave it absolutely that's what I said the arrow is unquestionably pointed up one other thing that that is worth mentioning and this is the if you want to take like sort of the grain of salt the the the word of caution in all of this 10 hard hit balls that he gave up that threshold is 955 miles an hour if you drop that down to 94 and a half miles an hour it was 13 hard hit balls across six Innings so that's not sustainable you know you mentioned his ability to battle in the second inning he has a guy on third base basically and ends up striking out the side to get out of it and so the swing and Miss covers up a lot of the issues and that's been one of his deals is not being able to get the swing and Miss but the the what we're saying and what I think everybody in chat is is agreeing with is nobody is saying look oh man Bobby Miller is back right my joke is back back nobody is there with Bobby Miller but unlike Walker Bu The Arrow is pointed up it feels like we're headed in the right direction it feels like okay I see some things better now than we saw a week ago two weeks ago three weeks ago and if only we can build off of this a little bit who knows where we get if the trajectory is up five or six weeks fast forward who knows where that Arrow ends up absolutely absolutely I I agree I think he felt that way too based on the way he looked coming off the mound um there was a little luck involved because he gave up like you said he gave up some hard hit balls he gave up some deep fly balls that didn't go over the fence that ended up being outs that helped you know and then the fact that he didn't walk anybody um again you know to put a bow on this thing um no one's willing to say that he's completely back yet and he's the Bobby Miller who should be starting a playoff game but we got hope and he's he's shifted the the the line for the trend yeah John with the Super Chat does Miller iron out getting ahead of hitters early in counts and offs speed pitch location by October um you know like I I guess the fair question here is are is like what degree of confidence do you have that when we fast forward three starts from now Anthony that the progression is going to continue like is this going to be a blip on the radar and like I is the the 13 hard hit balls going to be more of a dominating factor of kind of um explanatory power moving forward or is it going to be the whiff rate the lack of walks and his ability to battle that you think is going to carry the day I I would say the swing and Miss stuff being there tonight is is promising that's the most hopeful part of it I think the fact that there absolutely was some luck involved and you can't think that he's going to not walk anybody for the rest of the season yeah is you know is is what gives you some pause there and some hesitation to say like yeah he's he's he's found it um in terms of like getting the ball in the zone more maybe if he's more confident with his swing and Miss stuff he attacks better and and the the G the sort of the strategy and the the approach changes a little bit and that helps him I could see that being a thing yeah yeah we'll see we'll see I I the stock is heading in the right direction sample size we'll see how it plays out pyton kind of agreeing with what you were saying earlier Anthony impressed that Bobby didn't let the stress get to him again it was a leadoff single error by mookie bets in that second inning a wild pitch eventually moves him to third Bobby settles in strikes out the side gives up the two out double and home run and to me that's that's the key he gives up the Home Run it's three runs and three Innings and you're like okay H where does this go from here for him to come back in the fourth fifth and sixth retire nine of the last 10 to me that's the composure that's the encouraging piece that I saw um so good stuff there uh Blue Line ditos uh says it was me that couldn't catch sh's home run uh look man I I'm not sure I believe you but whoever it is you know I hope that person's all right I hope that person's got a sense of humor and believes that more than money will make them happy because if not that's going to be a tough one we might need that guy on a midweek show yeah we'll work on it we'll work on it uh Larry says bigger props lux's uncle or Max's chiropractor it's got to be lux's uncle right I mean Lu is like one of the six best players in baseball for over a month now yeah I think you know the the whole for as long as Max was out that was just that whole thing was just weird to me you knew how I felt about it from the start um um but Gavin you know I mean he if he wasn't in his contract situation and all that like he was a DFA candidate like that's how bad he was going yeah um and to go from there to like a top 10 hitter in baseball for the last you know two months or whatever it is almost yeah uh that's pretty impressive it's it's it's Gavin's Uncle yeah I'm with you I'm with you somebody in the chat says kik's uh kik's optometrist probably belongs in this conversation because oh by the way Kik Hernandez with a two out three-run home run to tie this game and even put us in position for Otani to uh to get to where he got to so um kudos to everybody there um all the way up and down this one I guess we could say uh shout out to all Dodgers medical people batting coaches uncles Etc uh Lucas and sad show has a question did we ever expect Will Smith to be this good at throwing Runners out look look I'm the biggest guy I was never going to say he was going to be this we were just hoping for League average yeah he was an offense first guy the whole time yeah yeah we knew like he was competent and even last year I remember talking like hey the pop Time the arm strength like some of that stuff was borderline Elite it just wasn't leading to results and I think Dodgers pitchers weren't necessarily doing favors in that category um you know and look if you're going to go the other way I think that second caught stealing he got tonight well both caught steings tonight I would say were were on the fortunate side of things the first one the guy slid off the bag the second one he throws a bounce pass that lux catches against the Luca's face I think uh you know four feet from the bag so both of those I I wouldn't say were textbook throw them out but you know even if Will Smith is just average defensively the bat's going to play the fact that he leads the national league now in caught stealing incredible stuff for the people saying uh jumping on me for lux's contract situation and that he had options didn't listen to the comment I said if it weren't for his contract situation he would have been a DFA candidate yeah some people probably would have DFA him even with the options just to open up the 40 some people were trying yeah it's true it's true so Dodgers win this one seven to three let's jump real quick into a quick recap for those who missed it um Bobby Miller we mentioned on the mound for the Dodgers has struggled last time out struggled in the minor struggled before going down to the minors it had been a rough stretch not a lot of confidence in Bobby Miller uh across Dodgers land I would say he gives up a home run 417 ft in the top of the first he gives up another home run in the top of the third Dodgers are down three to nothing and you know against the guy Alexander on the other side that that feels like you should be able to do something against the Dodgers offense was largely stagnant until the bottom of the fifth uh Tommy Edmund reaches base Gavin Lux draws an incredible walk and then TK Hernandez a laser that just clears the fence in left center field to tie this one up the Dodgers Bullpen does their job and then the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded after a Will Smith uh reaches after Edmond singles after Max Muny walks and then Sho Otani uh 389 feet again you know a couple home runs you know I'm not going to say quite wall scrapers but they didn't make it fully into the bleachers tonight but just enough for the Dodgers to get this one done uh Michael copc W gets the win braer and Phillips uh two innings one hit between the two of them the Dodgers Bullpen three Innings one hit four strikeouts and of course no earned runs so all around I would say this team starting pitching check Bullpen check seven runs from the offense despite mooki and Freddy being overate check as well uh this this is just what this team is capable of On Any Given night it's not like this is the ceiling but this is just an average performance when this group is all together and getting healthy you expect things like this to happen it feels like you know three out of every five nights yeah you know and I think we lose some of what this actually was because of the dramatic you know Shi Grand Slam 4040 end of this thing but like you know if he would have singled or if Max would have singled or if or if Will Smith would have scored on on the ground ball or the or the you know almost wild pitch or whatever any of those things would have happened and they would have won this game um it all would have been still the same like everything you just said right would have still been the same and this would have just been another example of like what this team is capable of when they're all healthy and and you don't even have to say that everybody going well just all healthy um because that makes a difference and I think the fact that they found copc if copc ends up being the guy the rest of the way at the end of the game that is a huge huge burden that has been figured out for this Bullpen um he was he was great again tonight um you know I saw something that that was written on fan graphs that talked about uh you know the four seam usage has been down a little bit uh but like spin rates and things like that have been up like even since before he got even before he was traded like his last handful of of outings with the white socks um he was better uh so if he if he's that guy now I mean it it solidifies that Bullpen if glass now Yamamoto flarity and then you know maybe it's Stone you know maybe it's Bobby Miller you know who know then all of a sudden that rotation looks a little different and now there's a healthy lineup with with bench options I mean this is the this is the team that we were talking about in March as this is the best overall roster up and down in the sport and I I think that again now that they're that they have what they have in place yeah absolutely absolutely I was just trying to do some math here on Otani and kind of what pace are we on uh with with Shi Otani and basically on the season he's hitting a home run uh eight% of it bats that he gets up there for um so the question is how many at bats can he have well he needs to get to about 125 at bats over the next 33 games in order to get to 50 home runs if he just maintains the pace he's been at that 125 at bats over 33 games is about 3.75 is at bats now again this doesn't count walks at bats per game on the season on the season he's averaging 3.96 at bats per game so all those numbers if you're not a math person if Otani just continues hitting home runs at the rate he is currently hitting them at and plays 33 games he's on Pace for 50 home runs based on the number of bats he's getting per game and how often he's hitting home runs 8% of the time three point you know basically four at bats per game so you crank out the math here Anthony and the math pencils again none of us are worried about the stolen bases to me it's can he get 10 home runs the the math can math there you know I I think it's reasonable yeah this also assumes he plays it right up until the wire yeah it assumes that the Dodgers get pushed by the other two teams behind him which could very much happen which and the fact that he's a designated hitter helps because you're not exactly feeling like you're putting him out there at risk I mean obviously a fast ball to the wrist or to the ribs at any point but it doesn't feel like you know it's not like you're asking to go play center field you know and and I think the fact that the Diamondbacks and the Padres have kind of kept kept pace yeah uh you know for a while now sort of uh it masks a little bit how good this team has been for the last two weeks or so two and a half weeks uh they've been one of the best teams in baseball I think the only other two teams who are right there with them are those two teams in their own division yeah both by the way yeah you know so my point being is if they can sort of continue this for another couple of weeks let's say and maybe those teams sort of come back down to earth a little bit yeah and it doesn't even have to be that they turn into like pumpkins they just have to be like not the best teams in baseball yeah and then all of a sudden this this lead pops up to like maybe six or seven games in a few weeks and then you start to see like okay well how many games does shi actually actually yeah crazy stuff again thank you to everybody that's joining us we're up nearing 3,700 people on Facebook on Twitter on YouTube we appreciate you if you're new here please subscribe hit the notification Bell we're here five six nights a week doing postgame shows doing pregame shows all sorts of content not to mention interviews and uh you know daily shorts that type of thing so if you're new Please Subscribe bring the notification Bell we would greatly appreciate a couple more Super chats to get to pton says if MLB is ever going to Crown a DHS MVP it's it's gotay Shi Otani this year otherwise it'll probably never happen um I I mentioned it earlier DraftKings right now has Otani minus 1400 uh so you'd have to bet $1,400 just to win a 100 on Otani to win MVP Lindor who I mentioned leads the national league and wins above replacement according to Fan graphs heading into tonight it's six to1 odds on thenor so I'm not telling anybody to bet on anything I wouldn't bet on Otani I'll tell you that you want to emotionally hedge with Lindor knock yourself out but clearly Vegas agrees to you a great point though that's that's a great Point by pton that you know the the DH has has always had this bias about them being the MVP um it's funny because we we've had this discussion before I think because when it's between two position players like defense doesn't matter like 2011 with Matt Kemp and Ryan Brun like apparently Matt K's defense didn't matter to the voters yeah and he played center field and Ryan BR Ryan Bron was a terrible Fielder um but if you're ever going to say you know what screw all that a DH is just as worthy as you know whoever second baseman or left fielder or whatever it's this season and if show doesn't win it I don't know how a DH does then I I think that common is spot on yeah and again I mentioned this earlier no player in major league history has had 43 home runs and 43 steals in the same season that's the number he has to get to to to put himself into a category that is entirely his own and I mentioned he he's on Pace technically for 50 so getting to 43 45 which is a nice round number um all in play and there is there is nothing anybody in the National League can do short of you know going on one of the most unbelievable hot stretches of all time over the next 33 games if Otani gets to 4545 and again Vegas is already saying he's clinched it if he gets a 45 45 it's a wrap like it is a WP minus 14 says it probably already is but that's just a number that's going to resonate with people and if we're talking about the chase for 50/50 it's going to feel like the chase for 70 home runs it's gonna feel like that type of magnitude because of who this is in Otani and the worldwide appeal as well agree agree and even if Ozuna like you know makes that run at the Triple Crown yeah I the Triple Crown doesn't mean as much to me as it did to like older baseball Riders who voted for those award like the year Miguel Cabrera won the MVP over Mike Trout he was not the best player in baseball even though he won the Triple Crown Mike Trout was light years better than him that season um I think the voting block has matured and and it's interesting to say mature because basically what I mean is it's gotten younger and more Progressive in terms of I hope Matt Moreno's not listening I hope Matt Moreno's not listening how they see the numbers I mean that that entire system is still fla and I've been a longtime member of the bbwa um uh for and but that that system is flawed but the voting block has looked at things differently um yeah you know it it kind of started like a little bit with like Zach grinkie winning a saai young like that sort of was like the first wave of it and and you know so I think that you know if there was a time to see you know what a DH can absolutely do it it's it is now yeah yeah I'm with you I'm with you by the way I do have to give a shout out to Matt Mareno because uh I was on a tech message thread that involved him in which uh somebody I won't say who was was was putting some derogatory Bobby Miller commentary into this text message thread and Matt in the third inning and Matt responded with six Innings three earned is going to be just fine and fast forward three Innings Matt Moreno on the nose so um you know our batting average an RBI guy no nose ball as they say nowadays so shout out to Matt Moreno for that prediction uh John has a question here for us and dating back to something that ironically was a big storyline after you and I came on on Tuesday night uh Jason Hayward the decision to DFA him he said Jason Hayward versus Chris Taylor age versus stats Club clubhouse versus contracts um it's a good way of putting it right the second part like Jason Hayward Clubhouse value Chris Taylor under team control not team control do a lot of money next year under contract for the the Dodgers um you know you and I both talked this was after the home run that he hit in that one which was huge and it felt like that was going to carry some weight clearly it did not yeah I think we said it then like what made most sense from a roster construction standpoint was getting rid of Hayward if you know given given the options um more than the home run the only pull I think there was really was like his impact on the clubhouse um the way he fit in there all of that stuff his leadership and his presence all that kind of stuff and they they talked they talked about it the second it happened right like we we called it we knew what was the sit we knew what the situation was um but yeah I think the contract situation for Taylor plays a big part in this but so does the flexibility in being able to move him around the diamond um you know he's been more productive you know before that injury that that he had he was more productive uh um and and I I think it's just the the biggest part of it I really do think the biggest part of it is that they're able to do more with Chris Taylor than they are Hayward Hayward plays one position and one position only and right now mookie bets plays that position yeah yeah and I think everything you just said is totally true and and one thing I would add about Chris Taylor is it feels like there's the wh if scenario like Hayward had been on the roster you had seen hayward's performance and over the course of this year it had not been great you could make a case that last year was a bit of a flute given some of the underlying metrics so at least with Chris Taylor to your point he had had a nice little stretch prior to going on the injured list and so you're kind of thinking well what if dot dot dot he's able to come up and kind of find himself again what if he turns into the guy who's had some of the biggest hits in Dodgers playoff you know recent history and so again I understand all the people that that are arguing that Chris Taylor has no place here and I would say to them the Dodgers still have one decision left to make at some point in the next month and a half and if Andy PES comes up there's going to be an odd man out once they get to postseason time so it very well then could be somebody like Chris Taylor uh somebody might be injured by then or they're you know the Dodgers never cease to surprise us I feel like in uh in these types of decisions so um you know we'll see how this how this kind of plays out um one thing and this is a minor conversation Anthony but it's kind of funny in hindsight one thing that was interesting to me about the ninth inning and I was just reminded to this because I was thinking about Kevin km is the way that the Dodgers handled that ninth inning so Will Smith gets on first uh Edmond singles him to Second and I tweeted I said kind of surprised Kier Meer isn't pinch running for Will Smith here because a single scores Kevin km Will Smith you know not Elite Sprint speed somebody could probably go look up his Savant page and tell me what percentile I'm guessing it's not great8 decide not to what's that you're talking about Ker well I was gonna say Will Smith but yeah up in's up in the like 90s right yeah um 80s 90s something like that yeah yeah uh we'll look up Will Smith real quick Sprint speed 49th percentile so League average so I mean Kudos better than I would have guessed but they don't they don't pinch run there and then Roos drops down a perfect bunt which you know given the circumstances sure you just need one run you don't need multiple fine uh again km not pinch running which again like you're thinking to get him home in that situation km's got Elite Speed Will Smith does not and then there's the ground B by Lux where we all agree that Will Smith should have at least made an effort to score because even if he gets thrown out at home then you've got first and third which is in the situation the Dodgers were in basically the exact same it all ends up working you're no worse off no worse off and it all ends up working out so we're glad that he didn't try and run we're glad that he didn't try and score on the wild pitch we're glad that Kevin km wasn't a pinch Runner who may have done things differently because it all works out with Otani but I I just think it was worth mentioning that was sort of a funky sequence the way that all that played out yeah look if if Otani makes an out there and they go into extras and the Dodgers lose that is the aside from Bobby Miller that's the main storyline is is not getting that run in in the ninth inning and and you know having the opportunity uh look whether it was Will Smith or Kier Meer I thought he should have been going on both of those plays no matter what and you know the fact that you know you talk about like well the guys already in scoring position why do you need to waste them at that point for those for both of those exact situations a ball like that hit in the infield that gets knocked down or a ball that gets away from the catcher you and you want that run you want that run to score there um I I have no idea why the pinch Runner didn't happen or why Will Smith wasn't breaking on either of those balls but you're saying the wild pitch you you you thought he should have been coming home on the wild pitch I thought he should have been thought he should have made an attempt on that on that ball um you know his his secondary lead was bad and so I understand why but the fact that his secondary lead was bad is part of the problem yeah I'm with you I'm with you um I don't agree with you on the wild pitch that one felt like it didn't get quite far enough away where you take the risk at that point especially just because of who the Dodgers had coming up you know if it was some other guys I won't name names because I'll probably get crushed in the chat for whoever I say but if if it was a lesser hitter than you know Max mty show Otani do up then maybe I'm handling that differently but um we we are in complete agreement on the Gavin Lux ground ball a couple more Super chats here rod wants to know why haven't the rule changes increased steals more um they stat show they actually have I was looking up um total stolen bases in uh over the past couple of years um 2021 1148 2022 1226 they changed the rules 2023 1680 last season so a huge jump last year obviously aunia sort of the poster child for that this year 1306 with again about a fifth of the Season left to go so that should be right up around 1600 again um which those numbers are as high as they've been the only other time it's been above 1600 it got to 1600 in 2011 before that you'd have to go all the way back to 2001 so I would say that that the bigger bases the pickoff rules all of that kind of stuff has definitely um favored the uh favored Runners um Brandon with the chat Shi get to 5050 or is 4545 more realistic uh we both agree 4545 is more realistic I'm going to say yes I I did I crunched the numbers right here math says he's gonna get to 5050 so I'll put my stamp on yes over 5050 Anthony you going you going 5050 you're going 4950 where do you think this one ends up I don't think he gets to 5050 okay um I I'll say he gets to I'll say he goes 46 51 4651 and to your point you're kind of projecting a little if the Dodgers can build this lead to five or six games is it possible that he's not playing every single one of these 33 games even though he's a DH which I think is not not a crazy not a crazy take yeah all right folks well we got a little bit of time here so let's get to some questions if you've got any questions go ahead and throw those in the chat will start throwing some of those up on the screen just put all caps questions at the beginning of it again thank you to the 3800 people who are in here live with us we appreciate it incredible night for the Dodgers they win which they needed Padre's and Diamondbacks because they're the greatest teams of all time continue to win uh but the Dodgers do so in dramatic fashion not only with a walk-off not only with a walk-off Grand Slam but a walk-off Grand Slam by arguably the greatest player of all time who just so happened to get to 4040 19 games faster than any other player in major league history crazy crazy stuff uh Laker Toby with the Super Chat here just when I think I'm getting used to show he otani's greatness he does all of this and on the same night baseball is lucky to have him uh I agree I agree I think it was Ramona shelborne that tweeted like I can't believe I get to watch this guy every night um I would only add the caveat I can't believe I get to watch this guy every night for the next decade of my life forever basically uh I saw somebody in the chat commenting it's cool that this moment is going to go down as a Dodgers memory not just that Otani did something unbelievable the fact he's doing it in Dodgers jersey it's it's greatness all around yeah for sure you know and Laker Toby has a sort of a a an ironic name because we've seen this in in Los Angeles before right like you know I think those later years sort of put a little bit of tarnish on the Legacy in terms of like guy people who watched him every day but like we saw a lot of this with Kobe too yeah of like he did it again or like you know we know he's great but then he did that like that kind of stuff right um and and Shi sh's got that kind of funk in him like I mean this was this was more proof of that like if you would have said to me in December when they announced that they had agreed to a deal with him that you know okay he's going to be an All-Star he'll be in the MVP running sure the fact that we're talking in August with the week to go in August can he get to 5050 yeah is not a thing I would have had on the bingo card yeah you know what I mean but he's just he's now that we get to watch him every day because nobody watches the Angels this guy's better than advertised yeah and he hasn't thrown a pitch yet yeah yeah it's crazy it's crazy um dodger blue wants to know Anthony did you ever get caught in the crossfire of a a Gatorade bath because if you haven't seen the video on Twitter Kirsten Watson I mean most of the time I feel like these are 25% hit rate where it's like 80 75% of the water misses and 25% hits somebody Kirsten will Otani absolute drenching I think Miguel roas thing came in with some Gatorade bottles after so uh I I mean I imagine at some point you were in a Dugout where maybe there was some champ or a clubhouse where some champagne was spray yeah I got uh you you always get a little bit of it like you know when you're in there after the game and and that's happening you always get a little bit of it but I got drenched twice uh one time was uh when I was covering the Brewers and they clinched um it was in 2008 it was the CC Sabathia season and they clinched their first playoff first since like 1981 like I mean just this the entire town was just part it was a party yeah and so uh they they played a day game they didn't get into the last game of the season they were watching uh I want to say it was the Mets and the Marlins on the on the jumbo on the big screen in center field at at what was then Miller Park and uh you know whoever they needed to win won and so you know they're popping champagne and popping beer and uh I had I had kind of stayed out of the freay for a while and Prince Fielder uh saw me in like basically drugged me in and just dumped two bottles of beer right all over me like I have to throw my my tape recorder and my notepad like off to the side so I didn't lose everything but that was one time and the second time was um when the been Miller right like in Milwaukee we're we're just doing Miller lights or what well I for for those situations it's Major League Baseball's call oh uh it's not necessarily the team's call so I want to say it might have been like Bud I think anheiser Bush was the was the sure Miller was I'm sure Miller was thrilled right right and then the second time was uh uh when the Detroit Tigers clenched in I want to say it was 2012 11 or 12 uh to go to the World Series um I got caught like I wrong place at the wrong time and it was Miguel CA actually who I had pretty good relationship with for most of my career um he's a really good dude he saw me and and I mean right in my face love it love it uh let's get to some more questions good stuff there uh Hawaiian Kira Show's birthday gift for Kobe uh love that love that some La greatness from someone I saw someone on social media when K hit his too uh that because he wears number eight because of it's cool stuff cool stuff uh Lucas and STI wants to know does Bobby Miller make the playoff roster if this continues I mean at this point it's just going to come down to a number game um but you know I would say he definitely placed himself back into the Clayton Kershaw Gavin Stone Bobby Miller conversation for kind of that fourth starting pitching spot if the top three can remain healthy right yeah he he I I don't think it's a guarantee but if this if this trend line continues to tick up um he's in that conversation for that last spot yeah yeah Brandon Super Chat same thing just a different name uh does stone CL crack the playoff rotation right now it's glass now flare Yamamoto Clayton I'm assuming as the four I think that's the best bet yeah um especially because as we all know Clayton Kershaw will does not have the potential to be a relief pitcher I think you can make the case Bobby Miller does I don't think Gavin Stone necessarily would be a guy they put in the bullpen either just because it probably doesn't lend itself to to his style of pitching and kind of how his stuff grades out as good as the change up is um but you know again I think Bobby Miller has genuinely inserted himself back into that conversation Anthony as a real threat because I think clearly he has the highest ceiling clearly like if we tap into the potential we're not talking about Kershaw at his age coming off shoulder surgery we're not talking about a guy in Gavin Stone who's you know ceiling is probably like a number three starter maybe two and a half type starter Bobby Miller has Ace stuff if he can harness it and if he can sequence it and if he can just get back to being himself and you know he was a guy that for a while felt like he was in that first three you know right there alongside glass now flare Yamamoto type and so I I think he has the highest ceiling whether or not they they feel like they can trust him is going to be the question he's yeah he's when he's when he's right and we've seen him right yeah you know he's he's got the Riz as the Blake people Blake age people say Blake age yeah Blake definitely does not say that but people Blake's age might say that um let's see uh Christopher said with shoi Otani season going down in Dodger history rank these great Dodger Seasons 97 Piaza 01 green 04 Beltre 08 Manny 11 Kemp 19 Bellinger I'll be honest Anthony I'm like the worst guy ever to ask these because yeah I could tell you like Kemp decent decent like sort of recollection of Bellinger decent recollection of Manny if it's the one I'm thinking of was short and sweet but it was sweet Bel you know in an era where things were different uh speaking of Vibes Man 2008 Manny was that was that was incredible to witness yeah to me like again what Otani is about to do and I think he's about to do it has literally never been done in major league history none of these other guys can say that none of these other guys can say we I have done something I've that has never been done he's going to win MVP honestly like think about who's won MVP for the Dodgers these are all offensive Seasons the MVPs have come from the pitching guys you know it's G KW it's Kershaw like those are the MVPs the Dodgers have Bellinger um but to me Otani is gonna surpass them all and I'm saying that as somebody admittedly that doesn't remember the intricacies and the numbers of all of these guys but what Otani is about to do it has never been done before yeah I mean if we're ranking them against these it is Head and Shoulders it's going to end up being the the number one it it'll be number one on this list I would say Kemp is probably second there for me I say yeah and then and then it's it's a 97 Patza and 2019 Bellinger Bellinger is nuts are are right there too but yeah this the point of this is that this season that we're witnessing right now really really really please appreciate it because of those lists you know we can go back to Brooklyn like in Dodger franchise history this is going to end up for now being the greatest Dodger season by a hitter ever yeah and and by the way 2019 I'm just looking at Bellinger's numbers 47 home runs and Ops over a thousand so both of the like otani's otani's under a thousand for Ops uh 47 home runs is probably we both would say right around where otani's gonna you know plus or minus he's going to be in the ballpark of that 15 steals 15 steals for Bellinger and Bellinger was playing Elite defense so you know there's a compelling case the DH that like Bellinger specifically because we're we're in the same era it feels like it's a lot easier to compare um kind of what was happening then versus what was happening now minus some of the sticky stuff I guess um but it's some great Seasons it so I don't know maybe I'd rethink it maybe that Bellinger season needs to be higher no yeah yeah you know somebody saying the ball was Juiced in 2019 you know fair enough who knows it was yeah yeah I mean that's that's not not true uh um yeah you know I think I think a lot goes into what we're talking about here than just the raw numbers you know I I think it's a little bit more than that when we put Otani at the top if we're talking just about raw numbers then you know we'll see where he finishes uh and the fact that he's not playing defense I am a proponent of like defense matters and so like in 2011 with Kemp and in 2019 with Ballinger that matters a lot to me uh you know so sure but like I think I think beyond all of that like just sort of how we take this season in and and everything that comes along with it and um the excitement when when Otani was was announced that he had an agreement like just everything that encompasses what we've gone through in the last you know since he's been part of this franchise um yeah I'm I would put this number one as of right now yeah fair enough fair enough noisy ninja does Jose Siri get booed Tomorrow there's no way he didn't know especially after they took the base uh Siri again according to Mike DG Iana um threw the 4040 ball that bounced back onto the field he threw it back into the stands yeah look I mean like that's giving him I was going to say that's giving the opponent too much credit like sure he might have known he might have realized it when they you know after he got into the Dugout or The Clubhouse or something like that but like you have to understand like that that team just lost a game on a walk-off Grand Slam in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs he's pissed yeah and and I think there's a lot of assumptions of like are we sure that everybody knew that he was going 4040 like if you're not just dialed into the Dodgers every single day plus he had to get the steal earlier so it's not like this had been a talking point for a week like I I just I want to give the the guy a benefit of the doubt now the bad he had with copc and the ninth maybe there's a lot of people that probably don't want to give him that benefit of the doubt copc didn't seem all that pleased with some of his Antics in that at bat but um I don't know I mean look maybe he just threw it back to the guy that dropped it that's what I want to believe in my heart of hearts is that he wanted to do right by the guy that like dropped the ball of his lifetime but uh who knows I haven't seen video of it somebody said there's video of it out there somewhere I mean I think if he would have really known like if that was on his mind he probably just would have kept it to himself talk at that bad boy yeah although he's not he knows he ain't getting away with anything you know that the the Rays would be taking that baseball from him yeah I mean I'm not saying he would have been able to keep it and put it up in his house but like you know baseball players respect game like maybe it would have been cool if he were the one to walk that over and give it to Shi like maybe that would have been a cool for him I don't know I'm just I'm guessing here but like yeah you know his team had just lost the game on a walkoff grant slam I don't think that was the first thing in his on his mind uh scooter boter uh do you think Ozuna from the Braves is threatening otani's MVP uh Ozuna is currently 30 to one to win the MVP for contact so uh if you think he's even remotely close go make go make yourself some money in Vegas or on draft cage yeah again again I think that the voting block now for the bbwa understands that the Triple Crown is is nice and it's a it's a hell of an accomplishment but it's doesn't mean you've had the best season necessarily and I I think that it's matured and that like I think for the like if you reped this current voting block about the year that Miguel Carrera beat out Mike Trout for the American League MVP if you if you revoted that today with this voting block trout would probably win so I would say like he he's an outside threat but even if he gets it I don't necessarily think that guarantees it for him Ozuna current fifth in the National League in wins above replacement at 4.4 uh Lindor 6.3 Otani 6.0 so pretty sizable Gap again war is not the end all Beall but I think it's the it's the most helpful it's the most helpful stat if you want to go to one place uh let's rapid fire a couple of these again we're almost to 4,000 people thank you everybody Scott wants to know what are your thoughts on Lux starting against the Lefty is this a new Norm I think they're going to just try and see if he can get going against lefties Anthony I I know if we'll see this throughout the postseason if if he continues to hit at the rate he's been hitting against lefties but I have no issues at all with this uh in the regular season I I think they're they're sing yeah this is their time to figure it out and and to see if it's if it's worth anything um and if he shows that he's competent against lefties then he'll be the guy he'll be the everyday player yeah um and if not then they'll they'll figure that out and then you know players like Kier Meer then really September really does matter for a guy like him or or a guy like P has you know that kind of stuff but he's earned the opportunity to to see if if it's a thing yep I'm with you I'm with you Godfrey with the Super Chat just want to say what a game and great show guys thank you Godfrey and yes unbelievable game a game you know all of us will remember for for a long t uh I'm sure couple more here uh Derek should Ryan brazer be moving up in the relief pitcher hierarchy since coming off the I I believe it's 11 up 11 down for brazer uh since coming back and yet again Anthony I'm not I'm not trying to Pat ourselves on the back here but even with the bullpen we kept saying be patient be patient be patient Evan Phillips seems to be himself copc is the guy who's come out of nowhere and now he's locked in so you've got Phillips the firan he gets the middle of the order in the eighth copc uh one two three inning with a little bit of help after an error by himself uh in the ninth braer looks good you know Blake trining didn't look good in his first appearance back Daniel Hudson's been a little shaky but if we're talking about those three guys Joe Kelly Anthony Bond Alex vessia like that group of six some of those guys are pitching in like the sixth or seventh inning and low leverage stuff it it's it's pretty scary stuff in a good way for the Dodgers pull pen yeah I agree and moving up is relative I think at this point unless unless right now you're copc yeah um you know I I think everyone else is sort of uh you know you get in where you fit in on on any given night and so I would say brazer is moving up the trust ladder for sure yeah yeah uh I really you know you you mentioned um uh you mentioned Phillips I really love him in this fireman kind of role yeah he's nasty yeah he's nasty he's nasty uh Brett wants to know did Kik make the playoff roster tonight with this home run okay you know what the whole reason that like we're saying him and Chris Taylor are not guys who are going to you know they're not going to dispose of those guys uh is because of they do stuff like this and like yeah yes they've been bad and yes they've been bad in the playoffs and like I understand all that but I'm looking at this from the front office and the coaching staff point of view they believe these guys can deliver this kind of moment you know whenever kind of you know one of these guys is capable of running into one and they've both done it in clutch clutch High leverage situ and so like that stuff sticks with them that's what they're going on with these guys so yeah like that's those are the reasons why I think like they're GNA see guys like Kik and Chris Taylor and go yeah they should be in the playoffs with us yeah and I think they they shared the stat I'm going to see if I could pull it up for his career um Kik Hernandez has an 893 Ops in the postseason that's across 72 games and 200 plate appearances so we're not talking small sample size for a guy that's got almost a 900 Ops and that's been the criticism right is that the Dodgers have regular season performers they need guys who can hit in the postseason right you know that's it that's it there's a reason these guys are still here we can't have it both ways and you know look this was a big hit Kik has been sort of a little bit of a roller coaster but mostly positive uh of late he we we know he can play everywhere Third Base second base uh a little bit of shortstop a little bit of probably Outfield if you need it so um that sort of flexibility uh you know moving around and yes we know the do the Dodgers value that as much as any organization in baseball totally Matt saying Jeff knows all about ke toober uh it's as long as Matt doesn't try and make belt over a thing anymore we should all just be happy it's Matt's Matt's a great person um we all have our our our down moments and our failures uh beler way up there way up there you know I look the janitor the janitor clears belt over it's all I'm going to say Matt it's all I got to say uh so all right uh I think that'll do it for us I think they'll do it for us uh it's been a great stuff I mean look 4040 walkoff Grand Slam Dodgers win again best record Jeff Jeff you and I earned A Night Like This on a Friday night after some of the Clunkers we've seen this season it's true well I I tweeted out I felt for you I'm
