Briscoe Wins a Souther 500 & Drivers Eliminated! 2024 NASCAR Darlington Race Analysis | Dirty Air

Chase Brisco pulls off a walk-off win in the southern 500 beating Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch to turn the playoff grd upside down let's break down everything that just took happen in NASCAR in Darlington hello everybody Welcome to dirty air I'm your host Alex Lambert and let's talk about NASCAR Southern 500 at Darlington where Chase Brisco is able to turn the playoff gr upside down knock out Bubba Wallace and Chris buser to punch his taking into the playoffs outd dueling Kyle Larson and Kyle Bush in the closing laps to win this race huge Drive huge win for Chase Brisco in the number 14 forward we'll break all that down we look at the results we'll take a look at the playoff grid going into the round uh into race one of round one let's get into it and we have to start out we'll get in the playoffs we'll get into Wallace busher Chastain and all that in just a moment but we have to talk about a very impressive drive from the number 14 car chase Brisco absolutely phenomenal what he was able to do you know he's had an knack for this racetrack for quite some time if you remember in 2020 when NASCAR returned I think this was the first race back for the Xfinity series after the pandemic or during the pandemic uh with no fans in the grandon chase Brisco was able to outd Kyle bus in that race right I mean in Crazy finish bumping and banging on the final lap but he he was able to beat Kyle bus in the Xfinity series which is that's just super impressive alone right Kyle Bush has over 100 wins in the Xfinity series he was able to beat Kyle bus in that race he was able to hold off Kyle bus today in a super impressive run I thought it was a great race uh we can look at at the the final restart where he was able to pull away from Kyle Larson looked like Kyle Larson spun the tires just a little bit just got a little bit loose and didn't get up to speed as quickly as Brisco he was the control car and of course he just fired off perfectly on all cylinders and ran perfect laps I mean those final 19 18 laps whatever it was was perfect for Chase Brisco you had a charging Kyle bus you know 62 time race winner 63 time race winner two-time NASCAR champion trying to catch Chase Brisco and win this race on fresher tires and Chase Brisco held him off just perfectly you know Brisco had a track this difficult could have slammed the wall uh could have slowed down could have went in the turn too slow uh so many variables that that could have took Chris buscher's win away Chase brisco's win away and gave it to Kyle buscher at least gave Kyle Bush a chance to get to the inside of him to his corner panel it didn't happen and Kyle bus uh just could not get to him and it's heartbreaking for Kyle Bush right because this is two weeks in a row he's finished second lost to you know Harris and Burton got lost to his first win and then Chase Brisco only gets his second career win but super impressive drive and this is big for multiple reasons right you know shr uh is is going out of business essentially everyone is looking for new jobs at that team Chase Brisco going to the 19 team next year it's a big step for him big uh big day for him in in multiple for one he's winner he's in the playoffs that's huge but this could be very realistically the last win for shr and we thought it was going to be Kevin Harvick at at Richmond in 2022 well as it stands right now it could be Chase Brisco Darlington still 10 races to go for that organization but the still a big day for Chase Brisco and that 14 team just phenomenal I know this helps out everyone's momentum at the shop trying to find positions next season I know this is just a huge momentum boost and a big statement from Chris busher going into the 19 team going to Joe Gibbs Racing next year because it was just so much talent right it takes so much talent to win at Darlington and and to hold off Kyle Larson on a restart at one of larsson's best tracks the track that favors his driving style to hold off Kyle bus on all four tires and not make a mistake while me driving super impressive run I love this win for the 14 car you talk about Kyle Bush we'll take a look at the top 10 here you talk about Kyle Bush really disappointed to finish two race uh two weeks in a row in second place but I look I try to look at the positive right it hurts it still hurts it it really does as a Kyle Bush fan but look at the positive second place last week second today uh fast the weeks before that ever since we went on that two-e break RCR has came out firing on all cylinders Dylan won the Richmond race I know it didn't you know produce a playoff birth due to some of the issues but but he won that race on pure speed I think he was the fastest car should have won that race if it wasn't overtime finish Austin Dylan number three super fast that week Kyle Bush has been way faster after you know finishing 30th all summer he's back up to finishing top 10 running top five uh in top 10 consistently I think Kyle Bush can get that win and get the 20 seasons in a row with the win which you know in my opinion and probably in his opinion too is bigger than making the playoffs is to keep that 20-year win streak alive because he'd be the first driver ever to get 20 straight consecutive years with at least one Victory uh never been done before by any race car driver Christopher Bell nice night for him finishing third also on the fresher tires Kyle Larson really disappointing I think you know had uh lost the regular season championship by one point one position to Tyler reck and we could talk about that a little bit as well but Kyle lson fourth place tonight uh just couldn't hold off Chase Brisco I think there was a little you know he kind of said Chastain held him up there on that restart but really disappointing that he led all those laps and Chase Brisco was close to him like you know the only driver that was close to Kyle lson was Chase Brisco the whole race uh and unfortunately Kyle Larson just couldn't hold him off on those restarts uh and that gave Brisco the win but but Kyle Larson losing that that regular season Championship is Big because that's five points per round so he's 35 points above the cut line you know how's it going to feel if he misses the championship Race by Four Points you know I think that's bad if You' race the Coca-Cola 600 all he would have needed was two points which is to finish I don't know 34th I think gives you two points you know last place gives you one point at least so very disappointing for Kyle Larson and I think that that he should think about that and and I know this is this is just more of my opinion than anything else but I think that that should weigh on Larson a little bit you know these teams Cliff Daniels the pick crew Everybody at Hendrick Motorsports puts a lot of effort into making the championship race and if you potentially miss it by giving up you know you know net total 15 points if he makes it to each round you know Five Points a round uh could be very costly for that team I think if they miss a championship event by Four Points that's that's a lot that should weigh on Kyle Larson and that should just my opinion I know some people are going to disagree rightfully so but I think that's a big deal I think that that shouldn't be overshadowed and I think that was uh I didn't like that decision to miss miss one of the biggest points paying races of the year so that's just my opinion obviously he has the right to do what he feels he needs to do but but I did not like that decision and I think it should weigh on him a little bit Ross jine finishing fifth but he was going to have to win the race to get into the playoff solid day for him though Chris buscher same thing he would have pointed his way in if there was not a new winner well Chase Brisco decided to ruin that for him so busher is out of the playoffs and once again you can go back to earlier this year Darlington when he didn't uh win the race because of some contact with the regular season Champion Tyler reck uh Denny Hamlin nice Seventh Place run for him he was in top five most of the day ended up seventh uh Joey loano big statement for him going in the playoffs as well another top 10 loano speed is there right another team that has gone back up because they were not fast at all at the nons Super Speedway tracks all year long they got better at the short tracks won the All-Star Race won at Nashville and when they got that Nashville win I don't know what it did if it was a shot of momentum or something else but that really boosted in going to the playoffs uh Cory Le joy in the top 10 great run for him you know obviously looking for a ride next year in the seven car that's a great momentum booster for that Spire team as well who's they've been on The Struggle Bus as well as their other teammates have been running better but not tonight Tyler reck once again one spot lower for reic who was sick all night battling some some some issues with that um wins the regular season Championship very dangerous Tyler reic team right now as well that needs to be uh taken into account I want to talk about the drivers that missed the playoffs because the playoffs are now set 16 driver playoffs set ready to go and I want to talk about each driver just a little bit right Bubba Wallace Bubba Wallace will miss the 2024 playoffs and I think that's also this is that time of year where we start talking about the big moments that this is not a good look this is a good look this is incredible for this team this is horrible for this team I think this is a a rough look for Bubba Wallace I really do I love Bubba W I like Bubba Wallace a ton I wanted him to get in the playoffs I wanted him to have a good season but when your teammate you know in a two-c car team 2311 Michael Jordan Denny Hamlin putting the finances in to win and win championships compete for Championship when your teammate wins the regular season Championship nonetheless by one point Kyle lson could have got it if he raced another race but nonetheless won the regular season Championship is currently seated fourth and going into the playoffs and you missed the playoffs uh through this system I think that should weigh on bubba Wallace's shoulders a lot as well and I think it will because that's that's that's frustrating to see and I think that that does not look good at all for Bubba Wallace as a driver uh you know moving forward or really that entire 23 team so there should be some pressure uh because of that moving forward and I think there will be so once again this is that time of year where it it starts to things either look good or look bad you know depending on how they fell out and I think it's a bad look for Bubba Wallace you talk about the same thing with uh with Ross Chastain right I think it's a bad look for Ross Chastain that he was not able to get into the 16 driver playoffs you know Suarez probably had a worse year probably did not has have as good a season as Chastain but he got the win in Atlanta in week two and that punched him into the playoffs so certainly frustrating that track house has been on the downfall I think this year so that entire team I knew I knew Suarez was able to kind of sneak into the playoffs he got that win at Atlanta so according to the system that puts him in right that's what he needed to do to win get in the playoffs I think track house a lot of pressure on them as well to perform better right as a Chevrolet team they they've made the playoffs in the past they made the championship four with Chastain in 2022 very disappointing they didn't make the 16 driver playoffs this season uh the last driver is Chris busher I don't know what to tell Chris busher it's also frustrating one of his drivers uh you know teammate Brad kazlowski won at Darlington earlier this year made it in so many close calls for Chris buser you go back to that Darlington race in the spring where he had contact with Tyler reck had a tire go down lost that race and could have made the playoffs off of that you go back to Kansas where the scoring Loop the closest finish in NASCAR history the scoring Loop had him as the winner but NASCAR had to go to a highdef camera to see who it really was and it was Kyle Larson by one 1,000th of a second or something crazy like that so very heartbreaking for Chris busher and I think it's it's just frustrating for him right you you lose by an inch in Kansas and then you lose by a flat tire at the end of the race from having contact with reck at Darlington few other close calls and he misses the playoffs uh due to a new winner tonight so certainly frustrating for him uh and they'll have to look at what they can do to perform a little better maybe get that race win going into 2025 uh so that breaks down the three main drivers that we looked at tonight to try to get into into the playoffs you know you can talk about the other ones you know Kyle Bush missing it as well was not good but here it is let's look at the playoff grid going into race one round one Atlanta this round will produce a racing at Atlanta Watkins Glenn a road course and Bristol so a little bit of a wild round I think if you look at Atlanta this is a track where the cars are going to be a little more even so this is when I look at a guy like can chase Brisco could shoot Harrison Burton who just wanted a drafting type track could they go up there and get a race win and I think it's very possible at Atlanta in that style of racing I think that's very possible that first race is going to be big you look at the road course right after that you know that could favor some drivers as well like Austin cnri Daniel Suarez we have to keep an eye on them Alex Bowman won at the Chicago street race earli this year so many drivers that you wouldn't think would win a championship could win one of those three races at least those first two is sort of a a not a fluky but unexpected Victory uh a lot of drivers could do that and what that does is is that knock somebody else out right because that'll put somebody else that you might think could go for a championship Brad Kowski chasing Elliott that could knock them out if they have a couple of bad weeks so certainly that's going to be important to watch you see martinrex Jr actually the 16th seed on the grid so that's certainly unfortunate for him got caught up in trouble early today you can take a look at that just made a bad mistake there TR has made a lot of sort of uh bad mistakes at Darlington in the past so certainly uh unfortunate for him but he is in the playoffs in his final season that's big for him and TRS is one of those guys I still think with that 19 team and the speed he has and the the driver capability that he has I think he could win the Championships going going to be hard you know being the 16 seed no bonus points but I think he could go out there and win a NASCAR championship I do I think Trux is still in the hunt you have Ty Gibbs Harrison Burton Chase Brisco once again all those guys um below the cut line it's really tight I mean you get Kyle lson has a bit of an advantage uh Christopher Bell Tyler reick they all sort of have a bit of an advantage but you know one wreck at in first stage at Atlanta could put you right on the cut line so it's going to be interesting to watch moving forward so that's it that's really all I wanted to break down during this draw I thought it was a great southern 500 one of the best ones I've seen in a while I thought it was a fun race I I enjoyed watching every bit of it still hurt that Kyle bus didn't get the win but that's it really all there is to discuss of course like And subscribe if you like the
