anything against the 49ers defense since then and this kid Jordan Mason who is undrafted playing in the place of the injured Christian McCaffrey has been spectacular 11 carries for 7 74 yards and has truly looked to be a stout runner in the mold of mcaffrey on the ground that said Christian mcaffrey was quite a surprising inactive tonight before the game he suffered a calf injury during the summer and did not play in the preseason and also did not practice very much in training camp and was expected to play tonight but was once again a surprising inactive and that's how we bring in my colleague from the NFL Network and the NFL Media Group Ian Rapaport what's the backstory here Ian yeah surprise is right Rich you know if you had asked me letd say three or four days days ago especially listening to the words of Christian mcaffrey you know I would have said of course he's going to play talk to reporters after the last day of practice and said he's gonna have his usual workload he hope so all of that the thing that gave me pause is we knew he was dealing with a cap injury and with the 49ers came out with their initial injury report uh official injury report they added Achilles that gave an indication that he was dealing with a little more than we had realized he did not have a full practice at all during the week so the 49ers with a long season knowing how important he is go at the cautious route no Christian mcaffrey today obviously a surprise and certainly something very welcome for the New York Jets well I mean it's something to keep an eye on moving forward and then there's another injury out of the NFC West today the uh Rams putting puka nkua on injured reserve how significant is his injury yeah you know I would say pretty significant uh for pukan I think a lot of us thought that this was just a little aggravation of the injury that he dealt with in training camp it is the same ligament but it's a much worse injury so he is going on IR he's going to miss probably four games I would say four maybe five so I think there's a good chance puku is back when the IR is up which I believe would be with the next week by October 20th you know obviously it could be worse it's not season ending it's going to force the Rams to develop some guys but he's one of the best young receivers in the NFL having him not out there certainly hurts Los Angeles and then the Jordan love injury that is been lingering in the news since Friday in Brazil 3 to six weeks is still the time frame now that we're a few days removed and what is the the Packers plan for the quarterback position if uh it is longer than three weeks first the Packers plan Malik Willis is expected to get the start um for the Green Bay Packers which you know to me is a a little bit of a mild surprise because he was only acquired last week Sean Clifford I know was on the practice R but he was their backup last year knows the system all of that so Malik Willis is going to get the start and you know hopefully this Begins the career Resurgence for him for Jordan love I would say Rich it's probably closer to three to four weeks as far as my understanding is of the timeline maybe week six would be a pretty good potential return for Jordan love I think the main thing is you know leaving Brazil there was some dread and arriving in Green Bay and getting all the full tests and everything knowing it was not a significant injury it was a good time to be a Green Bay Packer and lastly the news that broke just a few hours before the Cowboys and the Browns played one another you were uh you and I were on NFL Network together when you popped in to basically say the word 60 million a year for Dak 231 million guaranteed which is 1 million more than Deshawn Watson's record Setter what are what do you what do you want to add to this whole thing that we should know about to me it's a big number the first $60 million player here are the two things I would say one it is welld deserved people can say whatever they want he's an MVP candidate every year quarterback of one of the better teams in the NFL he deserves all the money especially with the leverage he had I would also say if he was a free agent he would have been the highest profile free agent in NFL history and would have gotten much much more so I'm not saying the Cowboys got a bargain but a little bit they got a near sideline by Jennings who caught the ball grabbed it and trapped it against his chest and now hobbles away picked up five he's down to the 48 yd line in front of the San Francisco bench here on it was close to one of those hip drop tackles that they're focusing on this year and that's where Jenny's got his ankle caught up underneath and why he came up limping that's why they tried to Outlaw New York and it's been a physical type of game as well so not just being out there for a lot of plays but they're physically coming down at you and punishing you which wears you down even more lining want something like a calf that just kind of hangs with them all year and we can never get the best of Christian mcaffrey so uh best of all worlds we sit him down we get a great performance from the guy that steps in for him we get a victory and now we move on to week two you know I'm thinking about the Jets and they're going to go to Nashville and take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday um the defense was as highly ranked last year with a couple players who are no longer with the defense John Franklin Meers was a solid defensive lineman and then Bryce Huff you know he was he was just as good with a ton of sacks and a player they had developed and missing those two guys it may have affected them a little bit tonight it may have affected him and then you talk about Bryce huff and you feel like you're going to replace him with Assan reic and you make that trade and you bring over Hassan reic but he hasn't shown up for Camp he wants a new deal um you know hasn't even been holding in he hasn't even been around the organization so it was something that you saw all night tonight was they just couldn't get a push or pressure up front well one of our favorite players is joining us
