Canada captain Alphonso Davies previews CanMNT πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ vs. USMNT πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

how are you feeling after the last few weeks of obviously getting back into the season with your club and coming into the national team how are you feeling physically and and mentally having to get to play a few games after the the ruling Copa America yeah I feel good um you know I feel like uh in the Copa America really show theirselves and uh yeah we left on the high and um coming back you know with the boys this Camp against two very good opponents uh we want to keep that motivation high that energy high and go into these games um feeling good and uh and trying to get the win that we that we uh that we think we can get I'm going to get into your opponents in a second but the September International window is always a bit of an awkward one because you just start back with the clubs but how good is it to get games already under your belt for buy it before you come in and be ready to give it give it your best for Canada yeah it's really important uh I think it's uh it's it helps me you know a lot um you know after the Copa I had couple weeks off to you know to rest my mind my body and uh uh overall uh it feels good to to go back um to Bon to play and get go get some games under my belt before I came to the national team uh you know I missed majority of the preseason so uh it's a it's a good feeling um coming back here and uh having some you know some time some time under my feet and and getting started again and does it feel different that you come back now as the true Captain I know before it was always a little bit more discussion about who was going to take it now the full-time Captain it's how special is that to know that you're coming back to lead your team against the us as a as a full-time Captain yeah it's very special um I think I did well in the Copa you know not just me I think the whole team did well um yeah I mean like I said before you know you you dream of you know capting your your national team um on the world stage and uh I'm happy I can get that opportunity I'm very grateful for the opportunity that I'm that I'm given and and yeah I'm very uh very looking forward to these to these next games and and excited I know John said keep it strictly to Canada and I will but what I want to bring up is when you're around people like Manoa who just retired International Football after 124 caps and what a leader that is how amazing is it that you're surrounded by some fantastic influences like who are some of these leaders that you're looking at to help you lead Canada by being in the dressing room with some of these fantastic players yeah I mean uh you know obviously um there's a lot of know great players that play for Bing that I play with um train with them every day train against them play games against them uh in in training um yeah I mean overall they have a mindset where it's you know it's beyond you know what I can what I can say um you know the the the motivation they give the team each and every day not just you know on the pitch also off the pitch as well and uh definitely before games you know uh they're they're inspiring um like you said Manel Neuer um you know just retiring Thomas Moola you know I can go on and on and on I think everyone on that team has the mindset to become a leader and uh and that's what we Thrive the stuff you know we we try to we try to focus on um we try to help they try to help young players like myself and also young players coming through the program you know to to Really teach them the mindset of uh Bayern Munich and you know obviously all the other stuff that I've learned you know watching them day in day out over the years um uh to come into this environment I just want to you know give my my knowledge and my experience and I just thought you have a great Captain one of the best captains ever in Vincent company as well now that you get to learn from every day as well so it just keeps going yeah it's amazing um I want to ask you about some of the players I'm going to talk to in the next couple of minutes as well Moy bambito is a player that you got to play with every game during this summer not only did he stand up and was brilliant against the Dutch and the French but played against Messi and um you know this is a player that's only been an international player for a short time and a you know professional for just over 18 months what do you like about Moyes what do you see about Moyes as a teammate and what is a thrill like to play with him yeah I mean as a person Morris is you know he's outgoing he brings you know um smiles on people's faces he's just a guy you like to be around as a player Morris is you know he's a really tough tough Defender um like you said so it's shocking that he's only been you know you know 23 24 he's been discovered so um so late but uh overall it's just he he brings out the the energy and the aggressive aggressiveness that we need on the pitch I mean I remember the game against France I think him and and con was you know one of our best players on the pitch you know they they went out there with no fear you know especially against a team like like France and they showed that they can they can play football and you know uh they both got the got the move this trans uh this summer and uh yeah I mean excited to see how how they develop and definitely Moyes you know you know as being as a strong and as a as a Arial douu winning Center back that he is and I'm excited to see where the future holds for him Fon I want to talk to you about this rivalry in Canada versus the United States it's always a big rivalry in sports anyway but I want to take you a little bit about through your own past history with with them um first time you played against them was in October 2019 when you scored that Big Goal at B moi what are your memories about that game the first time you played them were able to beat them yeah that game was uh it was a good game for Canada um you know it's it was a while since we've we've I think we've scored or we've beaten the US um and to do on home soil um yeah and then obviously I'm very grateful and happy to get the goal but uh yeah we've played them couple times afterwards you know they got the better of us but uh we know that this this is a this a rivalry that you know is going to last years after years you know even even even when you know everyone that are playing in this rivalry now retires and we know it's going to keep going but uh but yeah we're ready for it we're we're motivated you know we we have the energy and uh yeah we're looking forward to the game and we can't wait out wait to go out there and and show what we what what we've been you know we've been learning we've been doing on the training pitch and and put it into put into uh put into the game I want to also talk to you about the two games in the World Cup qualifier one that you played in one that I think you watched in on which uh the Hamilton game uh which we were all delighted to see you being celebrating with those goals but the first game fony was really important was it not because that was early in the World Cup qualifying in Nashville where you played the ball in for Kyle and you tied 1-1 and that was really a message sent at that Mo moment that Canada were able to go on and be taken seriously for the World Cup qualifying how do you remember that game and and am I accurate in feeling that that was a big game for your team at that time that was definitely a big game uh we knew that you know we had to we had to get something from that game we knew that we're going going to go in the US you know playing on their home soil is going to be tough it's going to be a hall starle environment but uh we stuck together as as as a team and uh yeah we got something you know we got a point out of that game um it's never easy going to the going you know and playing the US on their home soil but we did well and uh we knew that um we needed to get something because you know it's so it's a walk up you know we were fighting for uh for for a chance to play at the biggest stage in the world and I think everybody was hungry and to be able to get that one-1 that one-1 draw and and uh and bring it back to our house and and and finish off the tie was was spectacular and how do you remember the Hamilton game I know you Wen there but how do you remember it yeah for me it was a little bit warmer than for the other guys for sure um yeah I mean obviously I was I was itching to be out there um you know fortunate incidents stopped me from from being out there with the boys but um I was watching I was supporting them from home you know even though I'm not on the pitch you know I still support and I'm still one of the biggest fans for sure um yeah watching the game with my father was was really emotional uh because you know this is that's the type of game where you know playing for your country means a lot and to be able not to to physically be there um was uh you know was uh was was devastating but overall the boys did their job and uh we got the win in our in our home country fantastic and what about the Nations League final in Vegas in 2023 it didn't go your way that day what do you recall about that how do you remember that and is the lessons that you can take from that to help you on Saturday yeah definitely the Nations League finals um that was an opportunity to to get a trophy for for this country um obviously like I said before playing the US is never easy we knew that you know it's a it's a it's a finals and they're going to come out with everything we also had to come out with everything and uh yeah I mean we we we left it all we left it all out there on the pitch um the the battle the the the header the tackles the shots the saves the uh everything it's just we left everything out there and unfortunately we couldn't you know reach the finish line but you know that's just a reminder for us um for all the boys that has been there um at that time you know watching them lift the trophy you know it's it's it did something to us and uh definitely we're we're taking that I know with the grein of salt and and coming back uh for revenge for sure last two questions for you again thank you so much for your time Jesse just talked about how much he loves being uh able to coach you and how much he loves to challenge you how much do you enjoy being challenged by Jesse how's that relationship going it's going good uh yeah he challenged me a lot you know off the pitch on the pitch um uh speaking more to the team you know um being more responsible around the team um yeah and me on the pitch uh you challenged me to be vocal you know like uh know I'm sure some people know that not you're a very vocal person when I play football you know i' say one or two things but not all the time not for 90 minutes I think he challenged me cuz uh you know I need to be I need to be more more lively on the pitch more vocal and uh and also to help all the other guys that are coming in you know learning a new system and everything last one for you f is us and Mexico the two big teams in conap along with Canada what are some of those goals internally that you guys have set here to try and accomplish as you spend the next week together yeah we know these two games you know the it's big games you know playing the two big uh let's say North American uh countries uh yeah we're we're excited we're happy um yeah I mean the first game is in USA and we're ready for that challenge and also another big test against Mexico um overall I think the boys know how important it is you know even though it's a friendly there's something still meaningful and behind it um to go out there and and get a result uh the boys are excited they're they're they're hungry and yeah like I said before we just want to keep our our confidence up like we had in the in the Copa America and and keep and keep building from there listen pal I know you say you're not very vocal when it comes to this but I always learn so much when I chat with you thank you so much for giving me some time and uh good luck on Saturday appreciate you thank you so much
