Vikings Release SURPRISING Depth Chart Ahead Of First Preseason Game vs. Raiders

[Music] what's going on everybody Welcome to the Vikings Now by Chad Sports my name is Patrick seatman and coming up on today's show we're going to be deep diving into the latest depth chart that our Minnesota Vikings just put out where they had two key players from the secondary actually look like they will be getting cut for the 53 man final roster all of that is coming up on today's show but chart here so this is probably why you clicked on the video you wanted to see who was the starting quarterback well it's actually Sam darnold and they technically had JJ mccarth and Nick Mullen listed as both the backup options but after what we've seen from training camp I think it's no doubt that JJ will be you know the first in line to replace Sam darnold but then they did have Nick Mullen and jiren Hall I see no reason to why or to play Nick Mullen and Jaron Hall during the regular season this year I do anticipate them to get some preseason reps but I just don't think there is you know any Rhyme or Reason to play them during the regular season because we know who Nick Mullen is we know who jiren Hall is these two up top should know no doubt be the quarterbacks that get the most playing time this year and listen this quarterback battle is wide open um you know I will say I was actually wrong I thought JJ McCarthy was going to come in and maybe struggle a little a little bit during his first training camp since he did just turn 21 years old in January but he's looking the part he's made a ton of great throws during the training camp period and the one thing I love the most about McCarthy is just his Swagger and his confidence he plays with out there you know he's jawing with members of the Vikings defense he's going Toe to Toe with him and you know I just think he looks good and you know obviously Sam darnold I still anticipate he will be quarterback one versus the New York Giants and he'll probably get the first set of reps in the first preseason game versus the Raiders but I think if JJ if he has a good preseason we could be looking at him maybe starting week one in his rookie campaign for our M uh for our Vikings let's kick it to the running back depth chart uh they had five players listed here they had Aaron Jones Tai Chandler K wongo miles gasin and Dwayne McBride um also CJ H but he's a full back so didn't want to include him in this and you know no doubt no real shocker here Aaron Jones getting the starting nod at that running back position but the combo I'm looking forward to the most at this spot is Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler I think they're going to be fantastic maybe they could get a little sha and Kobe you know Duo going for this year but I think if I had to pick like how the Reps will turn out and how the carries will turn out I'm assuming it's going to be like 75% Aaron Jones maybe 20% Tai Chandler then that 5% goes to guys like K wongu getting jet sweet s even like Jordan Addison Justin Jefferson them getting jet sweeps or any other way to get them the football in the running game but I'm super excited to watch Aaron Jones Tai Chandler this season as Aaron Jones looks apart he actually had a sweet play at training camp in the receiving game back left to the end zone right near the pylon had a little tow drag swag there so you see the receiving ability and obvious we know what he can do in that run uh game department so super excited to watch those two play as they have definitely been living up to the height but this is my most uh I guess exciting news to share with you guys they had Jaylen Naylor listed as the first wide receiver behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison so this is how the depth charts CH uh shaking out right now you have Jefferson wide receiver one Addison wide receiver two Naylor does get the nod at wide receiver three but then the battle for that third position is not technically over just yet you still got Brandon pow Trent sherfield uh Tristan Jackson and lucky Jackson have been awesome in training camp specifically connecting with JJ McCarthy but we also have an update around Jordan Addison coming in from Kevin cyford here he said from yesterday Jordan Addison gets an October 7th court date and formal charges for driving under the influence of alcohol near LAX in July potential for a three-game suspension absent uh aggravating circumstance per League policy so if I had the call right now Addison probably won't be there for the first three games of the Season which will stink first the Giants but you know I think with guys like Naylor and Trent sherfield and pal stepping up there and even like the Jackson uh not Brothers but the Tristan lucky like I think they have shown you know at least enough where they can step in and be really you know solid playing guys for those first three games but still going to be fighting an uphill battle without Addison in the lineup for the first three games but not confirmed yet but just want to get the latest news out there now let's kick it to the tight ends here um they did list nille Harry as a tight end so that was a little bit of a you know not a shocker but we did hear he's working in with that tight end group so that's good to see here but obviously without TJ hackinson for the first six games at least you know I'm not really too worried about this tight end group like Josh Oliver Johnny Mt Nick Muse nille Harry they were able to do a at least serviceable job with Hockinson you know missing you know first games of the year so I'm not really too worried about it I would love to see a 50-50 ball for Nik Harry maybe in the preseason you know split him out wide get a linebacker corner on him and just let him go the work but here we go to the offensive line Blake brandelle gets the start at left guard um D Ryner has actually not worked in with the first unit from what I have saw um so far in training camp so he his contract is set up a little interesting where if he does not make the team the Vikings actually save $500,000 so I'm still pretty positive ryer will make the lineup but the starting five here of darol brand Del Bradberry Ingram O'Neal like this Vikings offensive line is sneaky good ladies and gentlemen like I think continuity matters so much and that's been you know the four of you know darol uh Bradberry Ingram and O'Neal that four has been in rotation for the last three seasons like that continuity matters they know how to play with each other so you know not really too worried about the interior of the offensive line obviously would like it to you know just be a little better and a little more shed up but hey if Ed ingrams takes a step if Blake brandell lives up to the height we could be talking about the Vikings having a top 10 top five offensive line unit Vikings and you got guys like Jonathan grard Andrew van Ginko they're going to get it going at that edge group both super versatile players you can drop vano in the coverage you can man him up on a running back or a tight end like he could really do it all and you know obviously with him reconnecting with Brian Flores I think he's going to have one of his best years but Patrick Jones uh Dallas Turner Gabe Murphy keep your eyes out for Gabe Murphy on this one um you know udfa he wasn't drafted because of his short Wings span but he's been you know looking the part here so far and listen this group is absolutely stacked for the Vikings like I think losing denil Hunter was obviously a blow but they were able to mask you know his production pretty easily you you're bringing in Van Kingo at 8 sack you're bringing in grenard to a 12 and a half then you're hoping you at least get seven to 10 out of Dallas Turner in his rookie campaign like this group is absolutely stacked they're going to look the part all season long and you know if I had the power ranked most important positions obviously it's quarterback then I think it's probably protecting the quarterback or wide receiver uh then you probably got to go edge department and the Vikings are damn near A+ in all of those but quarterback right now but let's kick it to the interior of the defensive line they did have Jerry till uh and Jonathan Bor as the two defensive tackles next to Harrison Phillips which I like that move I really excited to see what we have out of Tillery since he was a former first round pick like the talent is there but you know no real Shockers here um Lei Drake Rodriguez he's been living uh looking the part at training camp as well hopefully he can make the roster but still got guys like James lince uh James Lynch jacin Roy like these are guys that can step play great rotational minutes for the Vikings this upcoming season so looking pretty good there and then you know the part another group that I really like is the linebacker position I love these two faces you see on screen right now Blake Cashman and Ivan Pace I think they're going to have a great year we did hear reports that pace is going to be wearing the green dot so he'll be calling the plays on defense but then you also got Brian asamoa he'll be able to work in Dallas Gant as well curious to see how many linebackers the Vikings actually keep on the 53 man I'm assuming it's only going to be about three or four since we also obviously know Brian Flores loves to mix safeties in there get really versatile at that linebacker spot so again no real Shockers at the linebacker position but I do want to kick at the quarterback here because we do have a big time name that will potentially get cut and that's Andrew boo Jr um right now he's listed as technically cb7 on the depth chart but we also heard that he wasn't even working in with the first or second team at training camp and you got Byron Murphy good CB1 Shaq Griffin looked pretty good in training camp and he looks all good after that injury scare he had about a week ago so then you look at a Caleb Evans Fabian moral and that just leaves you know probably Andrew booth on the outside looking in and I think he's going to get cut like no doubt about it I feel for him um and I just I I just don't think he has a real good chance of making this roster you know it hasn't really balled out in training camp so far um which obviously is a disappointment but I think Booth will you know no doubt be cut from this team and obviously stinks because you're looking at all six of the Vikings quarterbacks drafted since 2020 two of them passed away in car accidents which is just tragic and then you draft Andrew Booth who has just been a disappointment so far but let's kick to the safety spot here loaded room for the Vikings you obviously got Cam botam and Harrison Smith man in the true safety positions but then he got the Jack of all trades Josh mellis running that Flex spot I honestly didn't know what the label his position as as he damn near plays every single position on defense but interior defensive lineman but you see lisen there he's probably going to get cut you got Tristan Jackson Jay Ward Bobby McCain as well and listen I think the safety group is the best unit on the team like they got the most top end talent I think and they're also probably the most uh deep uh on the entire Vikings roster and I just can't wait for another year of Josh mellis understanding what Brian Flores is going to want to do so I think this the best group on the entire roster for the Minnesota Vikings and just can't wait to see Flores line up eight players on the line of skirmish this preseason you got to pick and choose who's
