TEXAS / OKLAHOMA 2024 SEC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE PREVIEW

all right so Texas and Oklahoma of course both headed into the SEC in 2024 and that means a lot of things uh but drastically different schedules for Texas and Oklahoma obviously versus uh what they've been used to in the Past coming out of the Big 12 into the SEC so uh playing an entire uh SEC slate in 2024 now unlike the Big 12 the SEC only plays eight conference games so uh that leaves room uh of course for four non-conference games for Texas and Oklahoma so I've been doing this whole series of videos where I sort of take a look at uh some of the teams schedules for 2024 some of the more interesting teams uh for 2024 and up today we're going to take a look at the schedule for Texas and Oklahoma and uh I keep kind of harping on this but it it's kind of just because it's true and it's kind of always been the case U but I think maybe now it's a little bit more exaggerated but all schedules are not created equally it's just impossible um this is something I have talked about for years and years on this channel a as as people myself included to be fair sometimes have kind of complained about the schedule um discrepancies not only uh between teams and different conferences but even teams within the same uh conference now in the past when most every League had divisions uh you at least had sort of you at least sort of knew right you had an SEC East and an SEC West and if you were in the East the East had seven teams you knew you were playing those other six teams every single year and sometimes those teams some of them were good sometimes you know some of them were bad there was a lot of years where of course the SEC West was considered the more dominant division of the two but there were years where the SEC East was clearly better than the west but depending on how your schedule lined up and of course which teams from the cross division that you had to play in a given year you could have two teams in the same conference that had vastly different schedules in terms of difficulty I think that's exaggerated now that we have done away with divisions now in some ways it has sort of equaled things out you take a look at the big 10 as an example the Big 10 East has just been completely dominant year in and year out over to Big 10 West the East has Michigan Ohio State and Penn State who almost every single year are the three best teams in the Big 10 getting back to the SEC the West has been considered overtime to be the better division of the two but there's been plenty of years where the SEC East was better and you've got a team like Georgia who's in the East and has won a couple of national titles Florida and Tennessee both had sort of their time in the sun where they were sort of the cream of a crop not just in the SEC East but in the SEC as a whole Tennessee in the uh mid to late 90s uh was pretty dominant in the SEC Florida of course uh in the late 2000s under Urban Meyer won a couple of natties out of the SEC East so it's kind of flip-flop back and forth but with the divisions being gone now not only does that make it harder to sort of just memorize schedules from year to year you know as a Georgia fan I knew okay we're playing these six teams every year no matter what we're playing Auburn from the West every year no matter what and then we're just playing two additional teams or an additional team from the west and just okay which team is it type of deal and then you fill in the blanks with the nonon and boom you had your sort of schedule figured out that of course is out the window so when you take a look at teams like Texas and Oklahoma coming into the SEC they're both going to play a conference schedule both going to play eight SEC games both going to play four noncon games you'll see when we put the schedules up on the screen they're vastly different and y'all can decide which ones uh you think maybe are harder or easier uh than the other in terms of Texas for Oklahoma schedule uh you know who who maybe caught a break in the noncon who's got a more difficult noncon who's got the tough conference Road games maybe as opposed to the other one maybe not having so many tough games but um anyway I I guess we'll start with Oklahoma it doesn't really matter who we start with but we'll pull Oklahoma up first and here is Oklahoma's 2024 uh college football schedule uh and again they will be in the SEC so uh the spring game in April but we're going to move on to the regular season so they start out with three non-conference games in a row Temple Houston and to Lane all three of those games at home uh in uh uh Norman uh so three home games to start to slate for Oklahoma three noncon games Temple Houston and two lane Houston obviously the power five team there they are uh a member of the Big 12 they moved into the Big 12 last year as the Big 12 expanded in preparation for Texas and Oklahoma leaving so you got Temple Houston tame you'll be a huge favorite particularly against Temple yeah you'll be a favorite also against Houston and also against Tain Houston is the power five team that you play Tain may be the better of the three uh the best of the three that you play though tulan has had two pretty good years in a row two years ago especially uh capping that off with a New Year's six bowl win over Lincoln Riley and Southern cow but you get them all three at home they'll be significant favorites um definitely not the most difficult non-conference schedule I've seen but I've always sort of had the same opinion when it comes to nonconference schedules just schedule one power five opponent that's all we really ask I know as college football fans every single week we want to see like two top 10 teams play in the noncon the reality is that just can't happen um would it be great if Oklahoma was playing maybe a Penn State or an Arizona or somebody like that maybe kind of a rank vers rank yeah that'd be great but realistically that just can't happen every single year I think if a team goes out and schedules a power five opponent that's about the best you can ask for and in any given year we're going to get a handful of those great games that we want you'll see when we look at the Texas schedule they've got um a game with Michigan in the noncon um but I I don't really see a reason to knock Oklahoma uh scheduling here um the other thing to keep in mind is as in the last couple of years when all these teams have been sort of realigning and moving conferences and things like that is it's really sort of screwed up the noncon scheduling um uh Michigan had a non-conference game scheduled with Washington well Washington's now in the Big 10 so that game got cancelled so in the same way that Georgia had a noncon game scheduled with Oklahoma last year but then Oklahoma announced they were moving into the Big 10 so that game got canceled so some of this is out of the team's control but Temple Houston two lane Oklahoma starts the season off with those three noncon games should be pretty big favorites in all three this is just a schedule preview by the way not a prediction video I'll do my predictions uh later in the offseason I usually start those late May June uh something like that we're just taking a look at the schedules here uh for a lot of these teams you can click back there's a playlist 2024 schedule previews I've done I don't know 10 of these so far we'll probably do another 10 more uh but Temple Houston and tan and then the SEC portion of the schedule starts and up first a home game against Tennessee I think this will be a great game and I actually think this game is more important for Tennessee than it is for Oklahoma now obviously it's going to be a huge game for Oklahoma it's a home game against a a Big Brand in Tennessee foot in Tennessee uh and it's Oklahoma first ever SEC Conference game so it's going to be a huge game for Oklahoma but when you look at Tennessee's schedule in particular this is a game it it feels like Tennessee could win and it feels like they probably need to win it uh they've got games later in the year against Alabama and and a road trip to Georgia and those are games they're probably not as likely to win as this one I don't think this is necessarily A make or break game for either team and this is a big G I mean this will be a great game uh everyone will be watching watching this game everyone will be talking about this game leading up to it both teams are likely to be undefeated headed into this game in fact if either team's not undefeated that means we've seen a major upset somewhere if Oklahoma were to lose to Temple Houston or tane that would be a Monumental upset and if you look at Tennessee schedule you'll see the same thing I they play NC State in The noncon A Team they should handle and other than that it's really a couple of nobodies both of these team should be undefeated and ranked inside the top 15 I would imagine by the time this game is played on September 21st it'll be huge game and in your first SEC road trip and uh I I I I don't want it to sound like I'm talking down to Oklahoma fans because Oklahoma fans are are huge football fans they're a passionate fan base they they understand college football this is kind of a trash talk channel so maybe it comes off that way sometimes but is Auburn a great team right now no they're not they weren't great last year I'm not expecting them to be great in 2024 either I think they maybe be a little bit better than they were last year year but they've still got some quarterback issues but what I want to focus on with this game here is the environment that you'll be playing in um Georgia is my favorite team we've been playing Auburn every year for a 100 years it's one of the most difficult places to play not just in the SEC but in the country uh their fans are ridiculous and it almost doesn't matter whether Auburn is 0 and 12 or 12-0 those fans show up expecting a win every single Saturday and especially if Auburn gets out to an early lead in this game or is competitive say into the second half this is going to be sort of Oklahoma's first kind of foray into what it's like to really play on the road in the SEC again Oklahoma is a better team than Alburn and I think Oklahoma will be favored in this game and if I had to make a pick on the game right now which I don't I do my picks later but if you force me to make a pick on this thing right now I'm taking Oklahoma but this can be a dangerous place to play on the road um on the road at Auburn and then you get your uh bye now we're going to get two by weeks this year if I scroll down a little bit further you'll see you get two by weeks this year it's no kind it's not a change in college football the way to calendar Falls so everybody just gets two by weeks this year I've explained it in every single video I've done I'm just going to leave it leave it at that for now out of your bi we and you get your annual rivalry game against Texas now this is the one thing that is not changing for Oklahoma is the big game against Texas Early in October state fair Dallas the Cotton Bowl I don't need to talk about this game if you're wa if you're a big enough college football fan to be watching this video you know all about the uh Red River shootout the Texas vs Oklahoma game it's a Monumental game every single year I expect that to be the case again this season Oklahoma of course with a big upset win over Texas last year uh in this game here uh and then South Carolina at home if you were to Vibe the SEC sort of into tiers I guess depending on how many tiers you wanted to divide it into let's say you wanted to divide it into Maybe four tiers South Carolina's probably tier three you know tier one you'd have you know your Georgia your bamas uh teams like that tier two maybe you're looking at uh you know an old Miss uh a Missouri from last year maybe a Tennessee from a couple of years ago LSU and and then below that you'd have you know your South Carolina's your Arkansas's um you know sort of A step above your your VES and your floridas and things like that so you know you get you get them at home um South Carolina too just an FYI for Oklahoma fans who who maybe don't know but South Carolina can be a difficult place to play too now you get them at home this won't matter but for future reference taking a trip to Columbia especially you have to play at night Willie be Stadium out there those fans too are absolutely nuts I mean there's been years South Carolina went 0 and 12 and sold out every game I mean they're just absolutely insane there uh and then one of your more difficult games of the season and maybe your most difficult up to this point on the road at Old Miss now Old Miss had a great year last year that's an understatement 11 wins for the first time in school history they get a ton of talent back lanin kills it in Portal every single year uh and you have to play him there now in terms of HomeField advantages this is bottom half of the SEC this is sort of a good example uh sort of compare and contrast Old Miss is clearly a much better team than auburn there's just no question about it right Auburn's a more difficult place to play than Old Miss regardless of how good old Miss and Auburn happen to be uh this isn't one of those environments that'll be sort of overwhelming or whatever not to knock the environment in Old Miss they've got great fans but just from the size of the stadium to to other things uh this will be an environment I think you can handle but this team is really really good and this will be a great game uh this will be a really good game interesting sort of coaching mind matchup here with laye kein who is sort of considered an offensive Guru at Old Miss versus Brent venables the defensive guy at Oklahoma but this will be a really good game a huge game Miss will be probably in the top 10 they're going to be in the top 10 in the preseason we'll see how they do the first half of the Season that'll determine where they're ranked when this game is played sort of near the end of October but another huge game here for Oklahoma year one in the SEC on the road at Old Miss and you come back home play your last non-con game of the year against the main black bears again this will be a sort of name your score game Oklahoma will beat them as bad as they want to uh and then on the road at Missouri another team like Old Miss it kind of surprised a lot of people last year finished in the top 10 won a New Year's six game against Ohio state has a bunch of talent returning and Eli drinkwitz has become sort of a a hot name in coaching circles again when it comes to playing on the road at Missouri to bottom two or three HomeField advantages in all a college football again look I I don't say these things to insult the the Missouri fans or to insult their Stadium or anything like that but not everybody has the best home field environment en I mean that's impossible the sec's had 14 teams now they have 16 you can say every environment in the SEC is great and maybe you'd be right but somebody is going to be 16th on that list and I'm not saying Missouri is 16th that's obviously Vanderbilt um the bottom third how about that in terms of most difficult places to play in the SEC Missouri's at at bottom third um now again they're a better team than auburn but the environment at will be more difficult for Oklahoma than the environment at Old Miss or at Missouri um will uh then you get your second buy week and this comes at a great time because the schedule has been sort of manageable up to this point in my opinion you haven't really had a point on this schedule anywhere as we kind of scroll back through it you really haven't had a point on this schedule yet where you have sort of two really difficult games in a row sort of backto back really tough games um the Tennessee game should be interesting but that's surrounded by two lane and Auburn two very winnable games right the Texas game is all ways huge obviously that's surrounded by a byee and a home game against South Carolina the Old Miss game surrounded by South Carolina in Maine uh the Missouri game surrounded by Maine in the bye you I think you get the point but coming out of this second biwe your last two weeks of the regular season teams are beat up injuries could be a concern late in the year now that could affect Alabama and LSU as well but uh these are two difficult games here you get Alabama at home now they've got a new coaching staff they lost some talent to the portal but they're still going to be if not the most talented roster in the country one of the best two or three rosters in the country uh you get them at home it's an obvious Advantage but this will be a huge game late in the year and you follow that up with a trip to LSU now talked about Auburn being a difficult place to play talked about maybe Missouri um and maybe old miss being not so difficult a place to play it doesn't get much more difficult than playing on the road at LSU especially if this ends up being a night game late in November Thanksgiving weekend rivalry weekend this will be th this may be the most difficult game on the schedule on the road at LSU for a lot of different reasons number one it's on the road uh at LSU which is an extremely difficult place to play number two LSU is just a really good team uh they talked about Alabama having top two or three Talent LSU's got top 10 Talent obviously their defense was horrific last year they got to get a lot better on that side of the ball and they lose a Heisman winning quarterback which is never easy to replace but they're going to be a good team you got to play him there you got to play him at night and you got to play them right after you play Alabama it's just a very difficult spot here uh on the road at LSU but there it is that's Oklahoma's schedule so you look at the nine con you have one power five matchup that's against Houston Oklahoma should be favored in all four of their non-con games they've got Houston and then three lower classification schools when you get get into the meat of the conference schedule first thing I always look for where's the road games well at Auburn difficult environment not a great team at Old Miss not a difficult environment but a pretty good team at Missouri sort of the same thing as Old Miss not a great environment but a pretty good team and then on the road at LSU a good team in a great environment a very difficult environment most difficult games anytime Alabama's on your schedule it's going to be one of the most difficult games I know they got a new coaching staff believe me I know about all the issues there and I've got concerns too about Alabama and how good they may or may not be in 2024 but nevertheless it's going to be a huge game and a difficult game you get it at home that's an advantage on the road at LSU absolutely brutal um ad Old Miss difficult game 50-50 coin flip type game I'd have a hard time picking this game right now between Oklahoma and Old Miss uh Texas always huge difficult schedule here for Oklahoma so y'all let me know down below how you think they're uh they might do in 2024 but there you go that's the Oklahoma schedule and now we're going to look at Texas and uh we're going to go through and look at Texas the same way we looked at Oklahoma and then maybe at the end we'll you know kind of compare the two or y'all can let me know in the comments after we go through Texas schedule who do you think has it worse or who do you think has it easier year one in the SEC in terms of how these schedules were handed out but here you go here's the Texas schedule for 2024 of course fresh off a playoff appearance their first ever playoff appearance after winning the Big 12 in our last year there Steve sarkeesian just recently this week got a huge raise and EXT mention qu ERS comes back at quarterback they've got a serious questions on the defensive side of the ball particularly on the defensive line they lost a couple of wide receivers or will lose a couple of wide receivers to the NFL draft but Texas is another team that does really well in the portal every year they recruit well every year sarkeesian an offensive genius they've got a good staff over there and uh they appear to be not only a good team they were obviously a good team last year Texas to me appears to be a pretty good program right now at this point and I shouldn't have to explain the difference to you but almost anybody can have a good team in some off year right TCU a couple of years ago Northwestern wins 10 games once every five years that kind of thing a good program uh is consistently a threat to win their league and make the playoffs and things like that and Texas appears to be if not already in that category uh very close to being uh in that category but let's take a look at the schedule um they start out with four non-conference games in a row so Oklahoma had to three non-con games and then one later in the year Texas gets all four nonon all four non-con games to start things off so uh three at home one on the road and the most difficult of the four is the one that's on the road but Colorado State UTSA and Louisiana Monroe Texas gets all of those at home they'll be huge favorites in all three of those and should have no problem winning all three of those on the road at Michigan is a different story uh now these are two playoff teams from last year um michig Michigan is sort of the opposite of Texas in terms of what has happened since the playoffs Texas gets a lot coming back qu Ys comes back the coaching staff stays intact Michigan on the other hand pretty close to a complete overhaul there Harbaugh has left for the NFL he took a lot of the coaches with him now they did promote from within Chiron Moore becomes the head coach who was the interim coach this past season during the six games where Jim Harbaugh was suspended three at the beginning of the year three at the end Michigan's got a lot more to replace off of last year's team in terms of players and coaches than Texas does does so maybe you give an advantage to Texas there but the game's at Michigan which is a huge Advantage clearly for Michigan here it's one of the biggest stadiums if not it might be the biggest stadium in the country and one of the most difficult places to play this is going to be a huge game this might be the biggest noncon game of the year in 2024 you got two huge not just National but worldwide Brands here in Texas football and Michigan football you've got the defending undefeated National Champion Michigan Wolverines host a playoff team from last year Texas now we didn't get to see those two teams play in the playoffs uh Michigan of course beat Alabama in the first round and Texas fell to Washington in the first round but nevertheless both those teams made to play this will be a huge G just a massive game neutral field I probably lean Texas here just based on what they have coming back versus what Michigan lost on the road at Michigan right now it looks like kind of a coin flip type situation to me and let's be real we don't really know um how good Michigan might be in 2024 we know what they lost right we don't really know how good the replacement is going to be for that and and what effect do Harbaugh and some of those other coaches leaving what AFF will that have most people tend to think that Michigan is set to take a step or two back in 2024 which makes some Michigan fans mad to hear but the reality is when you go 15 and0 and win a National Title it's hard to to get better than that um you're more likely to have a worse record if you go 15 and0 than you know last year didn't have a you can't have a better record well I guess you can expanded playoff you could go 16 and0 anyway this will be a great game on the road at Michigan and then you move into the SEC portion of the schedule and again because you played your four non-conference games uh to start things off these next eight games are going to be all SEC matchups so um taking a look at Texas First first SEC game or first first SEC Conference game as a member of the SEC Mississippi State at home uh on September 28th Mississippi state is going to be one of the worst teams in the SEC next year in my opinion we talked about the tiers earlier they're in the bottom tier whatever that is maybe they're rung above um a team like Vandy or Florida but they're right there with your Arkansas's um and kind of your South Carol I would put them probably even a Peg below like Kentucky this should be a game to start off the SEC uh for Texas that they should be able to win against Mississippi State brand new coaching staff there too their third coach in the last three years and then you get your first bye again two by weeks this year nothing special about the SEC nothing special about uh a no change or whatever it's just the way the calendar Falls everybody gets two by- WIS and then the Red River shootout which we talked about a few minutes ago when we talked about the Oklahoma game so no or the Oklahoma schedule so no need to spend a lot of time on that it's obviously a huge game one of if not the biggest games of the year every year for Texas Saturday October 12th you get a bye before that this is where they didn't do you any uh favors though uh Texas has to play Oklahoma and Georgia in back toback weeks we talked in in the in in the uh Oklahoma portion of this video a few minutes ago they end their season with games against Alabama and LSU a a difficult couple of games in a a row uh so is this right in the middle of the Season Oklahoma and Georgia in backto back weeks now the good news is neither is a road game right Oklahoma gets bam at home and then they got to travel to play LSU in the last game of the year in back toback weeks there you get Oklahoma and Georgia in back toback weeks now they're not both home games but neither is a road game the Oklahoma Texas game of course is a neutral sight game played at Dallas in Dallas at the state fair so you don't have to travel as far as playing it in a in a in a an opponent stadium for either one of these games but this is clearly two very difficult games Georgia is ranked in the top two or three of every single preseason ranking on earth now that means nothing in terms of what will happen when the season starts but that's just sort of how we judge teams when the world of college football and this game takes place in the middle of the season so you know Georgia could have a couple of losses by this point Texas could have a couple of losses by this point but right now this looks like a great two weeks of football to watch as a football fan number one Texas versus Oklahoma then the next week you get Texas hosting Georgia uh but a very difficult stretch there for Texas you come out of that you do play a road game this will be your first SEC Road game and it doesn't get any easier than this in terms of SEC Road games probably the worst environment um in in the SEC and the worst team uh Vandy and then you get your second by week you come out of that and the schedule does get a little bit more difficult uh towards the end of the season now you host Florida who's not expected to be very good and I agree with those expectations I don't think they'll be very good at home you would expect Texas to be a significant favorite there on the road at Arkansas Arkansas's kind of a middle of the road SEC team you know but they're one of those teams that when people talk about the SEC and sort of the difficulty of of of making it through the season and beating all these teams Arkansas is kind of one of those teams that kind of they're they're talking about or or alluding to when you hear people make comments like like that Texas is obviously better than Arkansas there's no doubt there's no question about it Texas could also go on the road and lose this game to Arkansas it just could happen I mean I've seen great Georgia teams lose to bad SEC teams a lot of years and I can say that about every single SEC team now Texas would be a significant favorite if I had to pick the game right now I'd pick Texas but this is sort of the type of game SEC people talk are talking about when they talk about the difficulty of making it through an entire um season's worth of SEC games again not trying to prop Arkansas up they're a middle of the packet best SEC team and Texas is up near the top um but on the road at Arkansas late in the year coming off a game against Florida it's just one of those we weird kind of you know anything can happen type of deal uh at home against Kentucky I think kuy's a better team than Arkansas uh but you get them at home as opposed to playing Arkansas on the road so again a game where Texas will be a significant favorite and then what if you're not looking forward to this game as a college football fan then you haven't been a college football fan for very long but I've told this story a million times I'll make it quick but growing up in the 80s and 90s uh sort of becoming a college football fan this was one of the games that I would watch every single year it it maybe I'm wrong in my mind it seems like it was played on Thanksgiving weekend even back then every single weekend and it was one of the biggest games of the year every single year regardless of how good or bad Texas or Texas A&M was I I don't ever want to say that something is like Michigan Ohio State or like Bama Auburn I those are the two biggest rivalry games probably in the history of college football but if there's a level right below that to me anyway this game was there this game was right there with U Texas Georgia Florida um maybe southern cal Notre Dame whatever maybe you and again I'm I don't want to get into a debate where we're where we're ranking rivalries this is is just my sort of how in my own mind how I've classified them Auburn Auburn B Michigan Ohio State to me are in A League of Their Own and then you've got a bunch of games that are right below that Texas Texas A&M Georgia Florida um whatever OU Texas whatever games you want to name um I'm so excited to have this game back as a college football fan I'm having a hard time putting it into words this will be a great game uh Road game on the road Kyle Field 110,000 people there all of which have been waiting what 20 years how long has it been since this game was played 15 or 20 years people waiting a long time to see this game this will be one of the biggest and best environments of the entire college football season period just because of the sort of hype and buildup a two decade buildup really to this game um Texas A&M hasn't had a very good record the last several years in the SEC but they are one of the most talented rosters in the SEC we didn't laugh at Jimbo fiser for winning five and six games because his team was terrible we laughed at Jimbo fiser for winning five or six games because his team was pretty good at least from a talent perspective but it couldn't win any games or at least not nearly enough so this will be a difficult game for Texas the emotions will be high and we all know the saying about how anything can happen in rivalry games so there you go that's the Texas schedule we looked at the Oklahoma schedule y'all let me know which one you think is more difficult obviously some tough road games here at Texas A&M um at Arkansas I think could potentially be tricky and then of course early in the year the noncon game on the road at Michigan when you start talking about sort of uh tough stretches of games maybe you know are there two or three games in a row uh where the games become more difficult because you have to play them in a row obviously the Oklahoma Georgia in back-to-back weeks um stands out Kentucky and Texas A&M I don't these last three games really are not are not gimme games these are not look this isn't at Kansas home against Texas Tech on the road at West Virginia that's not what this is that that's not like that's that that people that question Texas and Oklahoma's ability to come into the secc they don't question Texas or Oklahoma's ability ability to compete with a or Obama or at LSU in a oneoff situation a bowl type situation at the end of the year at least I don't the questions and it's got nothing to do with Texas and Oklahoma we would have these questions no matter who was coming in is how do they deal with at Arkansas home against Kentucky on the road at Texas A&M three weeks in a row again as opposed to you know at Baylor home against Kansas you know on the road at TCU that that's that's the question and we'll find out we'll find out with both Texas and Oklahoma how they handle these uh unfamiliar environments again these are stadiums uh and cities that these teams are not used to traveling to and playing in we'll see how they do I think both teams will do fine I've got Texas ranked in the top three in my um way too early preseason top 25 I've got Oklahoma ranked within the top 15 so I think both Texas and Oklahoma are poised to have good Seasons I've got questions about both of them but I've got questions about every single team I Texas and Oklahoma will do fine in the SEC depending on your particular definition of the word fine but anyway there you go schedule previews for Texas and Oklahoma let me know what you think Down Below have a good morning also and too in addition to that as well
