YOU KNOW, BRANDI PULLEN IS AN ACTIVE SINGLE MOM WITH NO UNDERLYING HEALTH CONDITIONS. BUT BACK IN APRIL, SHE NEARLY DIED FROM A STROKE AFTER BEING UNDIAGNOSED FOR THREE DAYS. SHE TELLS ME THAT SHE'S GRATEFUL TO THE DOCTOR, WHO FINALLY LISTENED TO HER AND SAVED HER LIFE. IT'S BEEN REAL TOUGH. I HAVE DAYS WHERE IT'S REALLY HARD. 47 YEAR OLD BRANDI PULLEN CAN'T SEE OUT OF HER LEFT EYE. IT'S ONE OF THE LASTING EFFECTS OF HER STROKE. EVEN SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS MAKING MY PLATE HAS CHANGED. I MEAN, I DON'T USE THE LEFT SIDE OF MY PLATE BECAUSE I CAN'T SEE THE LEFT SIDE OF MY PLATE. BACK IN APRIL, BRANDI LEFT HER BOSQUE COUNTY HOME TO GET SOME GAS. SHE REMEMBERS HAVING A SLIGHT HEADACHE AT THE TIME WHEN SHE SAID BYE TO HER DAUGHTER. AND I SAID, I LOVE YOU. TURN AROUND AND WALKED OUT THE DOOR. MINUTES LATER, SHE BLACKED OUT ON A TWO LANE ROAD. HER OLDEST SON USED THE GPS ON HER PHONE TO LOCATE HER. BRANDI WENT TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WAS TOLD SHE WAS SUFFERING FROM CLUSTER HEADACHES. SHE WAS GIVEN A PRESCRIPTION AND SENT HOME. NOTHING MADE SENSE. I KEPT TELLING THEM I THINK I HAD A STROKE, BUT THEY WERE LIKE, NO, YOU'RE FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS. EVERYTHING'S NORMAL. STILL IN PAIN. THREE DAYS LATER, BRANDI WENT TO TEXAS HEALTH STEPHENVILLE, A DECISION THAT WOULD SAVE HER LIFE. SO SHE WAS A VERY INTERESTING CASE. DOCTOR JAEIN SHIRANUI PERFORMED EMERGENCY SURGERY ON BRANDI AFTER SHE WAS TRANSFERRED TO TEXAS HEALTH FORT WORTH. IT'S A PRETTY UNCOMMON PRESENTATION WHERE SHE WENT TO A CHIROPRACTOR, AND WHEN THEY DID THE RAPID ADJUSTMENTS IN HER NECK, IT UNFORTUNATELY CAUSED A SEVERE INJURY TO HER CAROTID ARTERY. THAT'S ONE OF THE BIG ARTERIES THAT BRING BLOOD SUPPLY TO THE BRAIN. THIS IMAGE SHOWS THE BEFORE AND AFTER AT THE TIME BRANDI UNDERWENT SURGERY. DOCTORS SAID HER RIGHT ARTERY WAS SO SEVERELY PINCHED IN HER NECK. THE REMAINING OPENING WAS THE SIZE OF A PINHOLE AND JEOPARDIZED OXYGENATED BLOOD FLOW TO THE BRAIN THROUGH HER NECK. HE PERFORMED A DISSECTION, OPEN IT UP WITH A BALLOON, AND PUT A STENT ACROSS IT, ESSENTIALLY REPAIRING THE DAMAGED ARTERY. BRANDI IS ADJUSTING TO HER NEW NORMAL. SHE SAYS SHE'S GRATEFUL TO HAVE HER THREE CHILDREN BY HER SIDE AND THE LORD UP ABOVE, WATCHING OVER HER. ON MY FOOT, IT'S PHILIPPIANS 413, MY FAVORITE SCRIPTURE. I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME. SO THAT IS MY CONSTANT REMINDER. AND TYPICAL SIGNS OF A STROKE, OF COURSE, INCLUDE FACIAL CHANGES, SLURRED SPEECH, AS WELL AS WEAKNESS. BUT DOCTOR RUIZ SAYS THAT SYMPTOMS ARE STARTING TO PRESENT DIFFERENTLY. SO HE SAYS IT'S IMPORTANT FOR FOLKS
