[Music] until the country singer passing in February 2024 Toby Keith and Trisha Lucas had an almost 40-year marriage the love tale between Toby Keith and Trisha Lucas was one for the record books soon after Keith's High School graduation the I Love This Bar singer met Lucas he spent his days toiling in the oil fields and his nights performing in local watering holes they went on a three-year dating tied the knot in 1984 and had two kids together following in his Father's Footsteps Keith joined the oil field Workforce in 1979 after finishing high school he did what he called typical rough neck stuff and earned $50,000 a year in his spare time Keith would perform as a lead singer and guitarist for a band he dubbed the Easy Money band they would play country rock music in the style of Alabama while employed as a secretary for an oil business he crossed paths with Lucas during this period I was 19 and he was 20 she told people in 2001 he was just one of those Larger than Life guys full of confidence after dating for 3 years the happy pair tied the knot in 1984 Keith posted a throwback photo of the happy couple to Instagram in 2023 to Mark the occasion of their 39th wedding anniversary Lucas has three kids of his own before dating Keith she gave birth to her first daughter Shelley Koval Roland in 1980 Keith took Shelly in as his own once they were married and the couple had a boy Steen in 1997 and a daughter Crystal in 1985 Crystal follows in her Father's Footsteps as a musician and recording artist in the meantime Steen is a successful entrepreneur who has a hand in a wide variety of Ventures such as 405 Burger Bar Hollywood Corners tequila chulos and sellout crowd in November 2022 Keith was honored with the BMI icon award and his family was there to celebrate with him Steen posted an Instagram video showing them all getting ready for the ceremony Keith revealed that when the oil fields went bust I started concentrating on my music he and his band began playing Regional gigs fulltime while he and Trisha juggled creditors and raised a family dozens of people told Trisha you need to go tell your old man to get a real job Keith told Country Weekly per the boot it took a strong-hearted and loving woman to say he's good enough at music that I've got to let him try and it'll be a great shot for both of us if he can make it work he added I absolutely love performing and writing songs but being at home with my wife Trisha and my three kids is the best feeling of all Lucas said people in 1991 that Keith went out of his way to make her feel special most people think he is just the most romantic person on the planet she shared he has his moments of charm it is nice to get a bouquet of flowers but I've told him save the money roses die in 5 to 7 Days buy me an outfit or take me to dinner at innumerable honor events and award shows Lucas was there to support Keith in September 2023 less than 6 months before Keith's death Lucas attended the People's Choice Country Awards with her husband where he accepted the country music icon award Keith speech brought Lucas to tears after he thanked his family and the almighty for allowing me to be here tonight you've been riding shotgun with me for a little while early in 2024 their love tale came to an end after fighting stomach cancer since 2021 Toby Keith was confirmed dead on February 5th forcing him to part ways forever with his wife
