forehead and the chick was like oh yeah hang on a second slice here's a Band-Aid I'm like thanks I was asking what the what the scar situation is going to look like like ah like a little scarring here and there I'm like good I want my face to tell a tale I'm already trying to think of like what the LIE is going to be for the scar on my forehead because I had this like this weird zit like directly in between my pecs and like early 20s that like I'd pop it and it would come back and it was like there for like months so I lied instead I got shot by a BB gun so I'm like okay what's the LIE G to be with this scar on my forehead said some guy bet you that you couldn't drive a nail through a piece of wood with your forehead jokes on him drinks were on the house that's a pretty good one I I hav had and I mean AP said it starters are gonna play like everyone's playing so um you know he said One's Gonna Get a each each quarterback's gonna get a quarter uh so let's let's let's gety up let's see what's up yeah it's a football-like substance on Saturday are we going to Minnesota or they coming here I don't even remember no we're going to Minnesota to Minnesota going to Minnesota Cowboys are here and then we're going I believe to the ners okay always got to do the ners always got St 31 days away so good man it was it's nuts it's nuts that it's only 31 days away because I remember was like 102 days away like dang man it's just creeps up on you and and the crazy thing is this is like the calm like oh you know rosters are really big still training camp just lit out blah blah blah this and that and as soon as the freaking season starts it's just bang bang bang I was uh I took the daughter to uh Optimism, the Ultimate Drug her gymnastics today and I was wearing I was wearing this right you know Raider on Raider and some you know just some random guys like love your shirt bro I gave him you know like yeah Raiders give him a knuckle I'm walking away he's like we're gonna be good this year well that's when I realized like that's the bulk of fandom right like we're like as hardcore as they get right we have a Raiders podcast like been fans for a long time like we're obviously the Raiders have a very large DieHard fan base but the vast majority of fans they just root for their team they know about it right they watch the games but it's just like Eternal optimism I'm here to root for them I hope they do great ah they didn't do well ah we'll get them next time that's such a happy version of random that I forgot about that was me as a fan at like 10 you know what I mean you're just like gravity all of a sudden hit you yeah my seat I I my seat kind of like went a little faster than I thought yeah anyway that was just like a nice like kind of refreshing like I remember those days when like every single season every offseason was all optimism looking forward to it just couldn't wait to watch the games none of this like oh are we going to suck again who's going to be quarterback is AP like just a flash in the pan are we gonna trade Devon like none of those things were crossing this guy's mind he's like [ __ ] yeah Raiders Raider Seasons around the corner Happy Times ah yeah I went be like that again I went to uh delmare on Saturday my cousin owns a horse and uh she was racing on Saturday and one of the one of the Buddies I don't I don't know how he was connected but your cousin the horse what's that your cousin of the horse racing was racing I triy to make a joke you're like my cousin has a horse and it was racing I like was it your cousin or the or the horse you know my cousin was racing the horse um so one of the I don't know how this guy's connected but he's a big Raider fan whatever he's like oh we're gonna kick ass this year and I'm and I'm like oh yeah why why do you think so oh Aiden noon's gonna kill it and this person's gonna kill it and that person's gonna kill it and I'm sitting there like oh man because I had done I already done I had already done all my research for the video I put out on Monday I had already done all my research and I'm just like inside I was like oh man yeah yeah I mean it's possible but a lot of these numbers that I looked at a lot of things got to fall our way a lot of things got to change from last season so I I mean I kept this I I I didn't freaking you know throw a wet blanket on his excitement or anything like that but no you can't right you can't this point you know it's one of those things like I remember when the first time Adam Hill was on the show uh he's like oh yeah I I stopped becoming a fan when I started covering a team it's like I I I Knew Too Much it's like the the uh the excitement of Christmas is gone once you start you know being the parent like all the magic is gone right and I I don't want to say that the magic is gone with the Raiders for me but I do have a lot deeper look into you know what happens and why they happen because SE cigarette burns on Santa's fake beard yeah you're like wait a second you smell like my grandpa um so it just I'm not saying that they can't and I I I still think there's a good possibility and I I predict the 10 wins but there a lot of things do have to drastically change from last season well look you know it's it's it's fine to have like there there's a fun part of like kind of head in the clouds about a team right and that's fine like that's kind of me with like the Lakers and Dodgers like when they're killing it I'll jump on board like I'm just not a baseball or basketball fan really but you know my grandpa had season tickets lived in Southern California my whole life you know when they're doing well I get on board along with the community it's like cool great like you know there there's a place for that right it's not bad it's just um no it's not us when you live and die by it well yeah when you live and die plus you know you spend you know a large chunk of your free time not just watching but studying and then finding out the wise not just the what's yeah that's when it starts to be a little bit more like things become I mean and I don't know about you but I I like tend to like blow things up more than they need to be because I'm like oh man and like you say all the time it's like you look you know your team and you see all their rewards but every team's got those same you know warts just in different places right yeah uh it's like when may that video uh that audio we played last week of May he talked to this like legendary Coach and he's like yeah I only worry about like five teams this season the other 20 you know seven or so shoot themselves in the foot you don't gotta worry about it like yeah that's that's pretty much it yeah I can't like you you argue against to me that right you go you name you name 27 28 teams in the NFL they're like you know what they did All the Right Moves maybe not everything falls their way but they did everything right on their end to make sure things you know put themselves in the best position to succeed I mean yeah after like the first quarter of the Season you're gonna pick five or six teams that are like legit contenders to make it to the Super Bowl it may not it may be the the preseason favorites or whatever but it may be a couple teams that you know I think what was the last one that kind of snuck in there maybe the Bengals one of the one of the because you know freaking Joe burrow is just a freaking thick dick stud in the playoffs and three number one receivers and three number one receivers and an erant ref's whistle in the uh Wild Card round to dude I mean it's but yeah normally you have in the mi in the mix towards like you know rarely do you see like two surprise teams in like the championship round you know yeah it's like normally like okay there's maybe three and then like a you know a dark horse ners always in the mix Chiefs in the mix bills always you know win a game in the playoffs you know Raven's always in the mix you know the the Lions everyone was talking about the Lions and they made it the championship game you know so it's like yeah you have all these all these teams and it just how do they look do they look it's not about honestly it's not about how much they win by it's how good they look and uh I mean yeah injuries to play a part but you could you could tell pretty much within the first three four weeks who are the who are the studs coming out yeah um well here's a list of our studs on this team and we got some studs Raiders Depth Chart man like there's you know not everyone 's an All-Star but you point to this roster the Raiders released their first official unofficial SL official unofficial asteris official death chart um earlier this week not a lot of gaping holes which is kind of which is like oh it's like okay like we could always improve in most places but no giant holes um what what sticks out the most to you a lot people are making a making it kind of fun how we're in 12 person now like on the actual death chart which makes sense right how often how often did we have to say that Brock Bowers was not going to be used like an inline tight end he's our slot receiver everyone just get over it he's our slot sometimes he's going to be moved in line to two tight end says he's going to be an HB it's it's pretty uh pretty cut and dry I think um no no no no super big surprises here I mean Cody white hair in there instead of jpj jpj hasn't practiced so that's not a surprise to me at all um in the secondary you know jakorian Bennett but I mean we kind of already you know he's got the leg up he was a high draft we a middle draft pick last year but you know showed a lot of Promise in Camp I don't think any of this any of this really surprises me honestly yeah um jakorian Bennett he's got that spot we kind of saw that coming um um like you mentioned a couple linemen haven't really practiced so you know white hair instead of jpj kind of there um Amir Abdullah over L not like a shock but I think that's something we were watching for like hey did he did he SW swoop into that like you know third down back spot as of right this second no well roster I mean honestly you really have to see it against another team yeah I think lby is gonna have a big role on our team especially in late in late uh downs but um I mean Amir Abdullah played really well last season and I think that um until you see him against you know maybe twos doing well against twos and then maybe you could throw them against some ones every now and then I think he's right needs to be I think it's it's it's where it's where it needs to be right now I've been saying it for months if he can pass block which is a big if for a guy that that small from a small College we know he can run we know he can catch we know he's fast we know he can run routes if he can pass block he will be the starting third down back yeah again that's a huge if it's a huge if but there's a lot of things in his favor he uh his size at that speed it's it's uh it's not normal he's a he's a bigger guy uh and he runs routes like he runs the route tree he runs routes like a wide receiver um as you know Amir Abdullah really doesn't that's not his strength like he he catch he can catch the ball but I don't know that he runs routes like a receiver he has this you know small set of routes that he runs but you know I I I really do think that given the opportunity he was a guy in the senior that I was like wow okay this guy this guy's you know interesting uh I think maybe the small school uh small school really kind of scared some people off but skill-wise I don't know that he was necessarily a sixth round pick skill-wise I think skill-wise he was probably a third or fourth round pick U and the what what he did you know to the the corners during the Senior Bowl practices that's one of the things that stood out was how easily he got open against these guys and these are you know the top tip top corners that were available in the draft yeah I mean like like I said small school white guy specialty back you know what I mean you're just like he's a very special specialty role and running backs Diamond dozen so it's like yeah like you know which again that's what you want out of your drafting is finding value right what is everyone else focused on you do the other thing what do we say about this draft if everyone's going hog wild with Corners we'll go get our tackle if everyone's going hog wild with tackles we'll go get our Corner if everyone goes like we didn't even predict it but if guys go six quarterbacks before it's our turn we get anybody we want and we went best player available right it's like that's what that is proper good drafting you play the value not the man right you do all your homework right you do your homework you interviews you do as you you try to eliminate as many variables as possible but no how it works how there's so many things you can't predict the only thing you can do is play the market right and um yeah like you ask any of these gamblers like any like really longtime Sports betters they don't even play they don't even like look at the game or break down who's playing or the fight they're just like oh the the the the the Public's going this way so I'm going that way or you know the these giant bets came in and it skewed the line this way so I'm going that like they don't even care I don't even like analyzing the game or the players they're just purely doing the market and that's what a good drafter does is you're you're playing the market value wise uh so training Camp's officially over we're recording Raiders Training Camp 2024 DONE! this Wednesday night wrapped up uh 11 days of training camp went down uh the pretty standard story lines throughout the defense dominated um at least in training camp either Farva noru really took over um some guy you know one guy have a better day than the other sometimes but that was it uh some injury stuff with Jackson pow Johnson and um who else colon Miller yeah with the shoulder still didn't really get any practice so that's a storyline to follow the DBS played lights out um that's great news to hear um that's I mean that was BAS basically the main story lines of training camp there's a bunch of other little ones right Devonte didn't get to do a lot because his son's about to be born or maybe is already who knows um Trey Tucker had a case of the dropsies Brock Bowers it seems at least this early on seems to be as advertised steel of the draft basically I mean so I'm so I guess you know for what training camps count for you can't ask for much more right um more or less it right anything I I mean look there's nothing the the big things that we I mean at least that the big things that I noticed were like answering questions why didn't the Raiders go out and sign a veteran Corner okay they looked at the corner that they had and jakori and Ben they they liked what they saw they liked what they had with jakori and Bennett uh and uh you know couple of the rookies were actually you know playing pretty good they like the like how some of the rookies were playing a aggressively and and and uh jumping in there against some of the ones and and and taking reps um there was uh you know linebacker ikenberg seems to be somebody who's You know despite what we we heard about you know maybe some issues with his speed doesn't seem to be an issue he's out there making plays um yeah man it just just confirming why we didn't do certain moves DJ glaze goes in there and starts at right tackle and doesn't miss a beat go in there competes from day one uh that's you know great news uh so it's it's always you know it's it's really weird to me how um [ __ ] god it's weird to me how um what happened was he just he just finished his food so when I fed him I I get home and I have to feed him because if I don't feed him they're going to just mess with me the entire time so he's done with his food which means he's not ready to mess with me but you know it's it's weird when you see like the day after the draft like right you see get like on on the Sunday oh look at this person's great that person's great wait a second wait a second wait a second wait a second wait a second the great this is like just content for Content sake because you can't really tell by names on a paper how a draft graded out MH and we're seeing that uh you know some of these later round picks are are you know playing big roles you know in uh in scrimmages and stuff it's not just practice it's you know scrimmage and stuff like that too yeah it seems like our our our rookies finding rolles early like we mentioned you know jpj still hurt so didn't really get to you know touch on that really but like I said glaze and L and you know Bowers A lot's expected of him Mar Richardson I mean there's a lot of stuff about him about how aggressive and and and and confident he's playing you mentioned ikenberg even as a rookie and and again he's not he's kind of more of like a run stopper is guy again kind of little bit specialty is but um and even then he seems to be doing well I mean that was Spain until uh until AP got his hands on him yeah and uh kind of give him a couple of Tricks so I mean look when you're when you have that many tackles at Ohio State you you can play it's just how are you going to be able to overcome maybe some physical limitations that other players in that position don't have yeah he's a he is a tad bit slower but he's not like you know it's running in mud out Raiders QB Battle there obviously the biggest question this off season the biggest question for this training camp and the biggest question moving forward is quarterback who is going to be the starting quarterback you know that's like and and you know we've beaten that that dead horse enough times where it's like all right there's other questions you know it's got like every time I get the ESPN Alert there's like a training camp alert it's the same thing every time yeah mshu and oconnell neither one forged ahead or like oconnell slight Edge today minu like like there's a lot of other things you guys can talk about but is like quarterback that's like the big story the more I think about it I know that Antonio Pierce really wants one of them to grab the Reigns and run with it right you want you want the decision to be easy you want one guy to to crush it and take over like that's you want you know that's the best case scenario that's not going to happen neither one of these quarterbacks are like that they're not lightning Strikers you know what I mean I think what's gonna come down to is one of them's gonna lose it more than one of them's I think one of them's gonna have and we'll get we'll get to the first preseason game here in a second but I don't want to take too much of it but I think it's going to be more you know one dude's going to throw like three picks in a preseason game and then it's going to be like okay we know where we got to go yeah I mean this team's not asking this quarterback to throw for 400 yards and four touchdowns saying all right our Run game in our defense is going to be we got Daniel Carlson that can Crush three yard you know we can get us three points from 55 yards every time out automatic we got potentially a top 10 potentially top five we're getting kind of crazy but should be a really good defense um potentially a run game that should be all right just protect the ball protect the ball and um yeah so that makes sense that it's going to be I think it's more guys going to lose the position battle then someone's gonna take it very similar to like the NFL as a whole like more more teams lose games than win games and you look at um kind of what I outlined in in the last video these guys are very close so for them to be as far as their production last season and that was really the first time that either one of them had extended play as a pro they you know um minu had spot starts here and there but he played 13 straight he you know four months of games right so uh play a full College season yeah pretty me been full College season and so when you have Tendencies and things and and they both do similar things well and they both do similar things poorly and I think that whoever shows like you said the uh ability to protect the ball better and also probably mix in there whoever can uh when given the chance to whoever can be more accurate throwing the ball a little bit further down the field uh I think that guy's gonna have a leg up because yeah well because we can't we can't win the way we won last year it's not sustainable you can't you can't do it uh you you can't expect to have uh an eight yard starting you know starting position difference from your opponent yourself that's massive you know you can't you can't expect to go 100% in the in in the goal line situations touchdowns you can't expect to you know have such a a drastic jump in how good you are converting third Downs in field goal range as opposed to the other the other you know part of the field these all these things fell into place specifically and it's just it's very difficult to win games when you're constantly playing for third down because you can't push the ball to get chunk plays on first and second down uh so that that's going to be a big thing to look at uh you know throwing the ball past 10 yards I think it's going to come down to to two things protecting the ball talked about I think it's going be number one like who [ __ ] up the least is going to be the primary goal I also think is just who grasps the offense the best right like who can who can who can be the general like you're not gonna have to play herob ball you're not gonna have to throw the ball that far that often probably it's just Brock you go there oh I see a safety Blitz we're gonna audible to this like who can grasp getsy offense quickest and best because we know I mean again I'd love to be optimistic and say one of these guys is so much better than we thought because of you know it's second year for oconnell and it's finally a home for mshu like that's still possibility that there's that there's some greatness in there that just hasn't had a chance to to show up yet but if both these guys are who we think they are neither one of them is going to be just like this this lightening playmaker it's going to be play Within the offense don't turn it over so it's all right who's going to throw less picks and who's gonna like who's got the mind to grasp againsts these offense the best and quickest I think it's going to be those two things not anything physical not actual playmaking I think it's just going to be who can be the general of this offense and don't screw it up yeah I just I hate I hate to walk go into a season and have that be kind of the The Narrative of the quarterback because we can't win that way we we teams can't win by with a quarterback that just doesn't screw up quarterbacks have to be they have to be a ble to make plays even if it's just a few plays a game and uh right now I don't know that it's it's looking too great I mean they are going against our defense so we'll see them going against another team's defense how how it looks but yeah it's just um it's not it doesn't inspire a lot of Hope well I think I I do think that's the right game plan like you're right like it's how many how many Super Bowl winning teams have haven't had a great quarterback you know we've been through it a million times but if you look at everything through a big picture and a big lens it's like again defense let's not get crazy but like it it it should be top 10 flirting with top five like should be great Run game from the just the four games we saw with Zeus last season seemed it could be much better than average like a good run game one of the best punters in football one of the best field goal kickers in football some of the best um uh like locker room personalities and mentalities and we could have everything going for us other than Pro Bowl quarterback potentially and that's a team that can win right I mean everything else has to go right without having a quarterback being able to carry all that but we got basically everything else yeah I mean look if if if this if this if muu and fava play anywhere near how they played last season it's not going to look good they they both have to play markedly better in specific areas in order for us to win games because so much went right for us so much went right for us that doesn't normally happen to a team well and so much went right for us after everything that could go wrong went wrong right Josh McDaniel sucking ass Jimmy G sucking that matters right now though none of that matters well only thing that matters about you talked about last season like yeah like a lot of things went our way a lot of things didn't go our way too like give us some credit like the [ __ ] that we had to overcome to get to to five that's great but none of that wins games I'm talking about stuff that wins games you can have the great the best mindset out of anyone but when your quarterback is you know the worst in the league throw your best receiver go routes like that's that's a big problem that's a huge problem you know when you lead the league in three and out percentage like that's a huge problem uh so we have to do a better job of you know when you we have we had the the most to go or second most to go on second down 8.1 yards like that's that's a huge problem like yeah you didn't you didn't get Negative plays but like these things it it's it's not sustainable over a long period of time and we saw that in a lot of a lot of the games that that we played where I mean look look at it from this perspective okay against the Chargers an interception within 10 yards right the throw was within 10 yards and it was intercepted against the uh to end the game uh against the Vikings a throw within 10 yards intercepted by a linebacker against the the Colts the same thing we had a chance to win that game we're driving or we we're starting the drive and an interception by a linebacker over the middle it's like if they know that you're shitty at throwing the ball over 10 yards they're going to be able to stop you more often than not and um with the one time that you did try to throw the ball deep against Miami it got intercepted In The End Zone like it's yeah I understand that we overcame a lot but there's specific things that we must do better or or n n the defense doesn't matter because great the defense played great against Minnesota and we still freaking lost because we couldn't score so that's all well and good and I hate to be you know the bringer of like reality but these guys need to do more than just game manage they need to be able to make plays at specific times or the defense will not respect him and it's a lot harder to get first downs when everything is run after catch when everything is get the ball on five yards and run five more yards for a first down it's much harder to do things that way uh so it's it's a reality check I hear it all the time and I I don't like it because it's not true we can't have a guy back there that just doesn't make mistakes he has to be able to make plays well we have what we have right we can say what we need we have what we have and that's why I say Luke gety has the toughest job in the building because he has weapons he's got weapons he's got an overachieving o line one of the best receivers in the football one of the best tight end tandems in football zamir white I think is going to be a much better than average running back for us like there's a lot there right the most important thing isn't right a a pro bowl qb1 but you got almost everything else so that's you can make something out of that and that's by Luke gets he's got to get [ __ ] with his lab coat a bunch of little beakers you know what I mean like shooting protons like he's got to get in the lab and get creative because he has too much to do nothing but he has a giant ill to overcome and that's who's ever under Center uh so the last quarterback our Jon Gruden Coaching the Chiefs last coach to get a lot out of our quarterbacks trying to get a lot out of another quarterback that's made the rounds John Gro hanging out with Andy Reid in Kansas City got the chief's gear on laughing away with his buddy from what where they where did they coach together Packers way back in the day Packers each other from I don't remember but they they went way back Raider Nation lost their [ __ ] and this photo and video of John grud at the uh Chief's practice came out he's look he's looking in good shape yeah he look like he lost some weight maybe he just looks more in shape because he's standing next to Andy Reid or maybe he's actually he he's all this free time to work out now since he's not coaching anywhere look this is my this is my thing on this everyone's like what a traitor he's Mr Raider what's he doing on the Chiefs blah blah blah blah blah here's what you got to understand only us fans are like that the second you pull a paycheck from something you are loyal to the paycheck every player every coach every Scout every front office for a week at our training camp come laugh with me tell us a couple stuff got any ideas great there isn't one person coach player Scout executive whatever that's going to be like no I won't take that paycheck or I won't take that job or I won't take that internship or whatever somewhere because I'm loyal to this other team like that does not ex that's that's us that's fans that doesn't exist in people who pull paychecks from a sport I think people fail to remember who John guden took to a Super Bowl and who he beat in that Super Bowl and they just feel like he's this myth mythical character who is just solely loyal to the Raiders it's just not true uh if Antonio Pierce didn't get the job right if Mark Davis didn't give it to Antonio Pierce and any one of the other 30 one NFL teams offered AP a head coaching job he would have taken it and AP is living die Raider Raider away screaming Raiders like I can tell a Raider for the and I believe him I don't think he's I don't think he's lying like I think he's you know that pass but if if the Chargers said oh all right you AP you put up 63 on us we wants to be your head coach he would be there in two shakes so let's not pretend like look let's not pretend that these guys have some like are some loyalists to the to the team he coached for a few years ago that was forced to kick him out because of emails like that's not that's not minus 190 makes sense Chargers plus 300 Denver Broncos plus 1,000 Raiders coming in last plus 1100 to win the AFC West longer odds than the Broncos that seems I don't know what this Fascination about the Chargers is look I I just don't get it I don't understand it honestly they have aging defensive stars who are of hurt they got rid of any weapon that they had that was worth a [ __ ] as far as pass catchers go and the running back is gone and uh I just I I get it that Jim harball is a good coach and that he's won everywhere he's gone he had a pretty Ki situation with the ners those that team was stacked just underperforming when he took it over and he did bring it up take it over the top I'm not gonna say that he goes to one of the biggest story programs in college football and eventually gets them to be National National powerhouses again but again it's one of the Marquee franchises in in college football so it wasn't like he took the freaking slap dick state to the freaking national championship game when you're going with this team dude this I don't understand it I don't get it I don't think they're going to be all that great um well look if they're not good you know and and but the thing is is he doesn't have that type of personnel he doesn't have those big bruising defensive linemen he doesn't have those guys you know he has Joey Bosa who's more of a speed guy and and he's always hurt and he has khil Mack who's managed to stay healthy the last few seasons which is you know not typical of a a defensive end that gets that's getting older and um it's coach that wins everywhere you've got St stars on defense but aging it's like what's what's going to take over right like what which warts going to be too tough to handle which big thing is going to game this weekend for the first Raiders Vs Vikings Preview time since week 17 last year yeah it's a preseason game but we still get to talk about it we get to actually break down a football game sort of it's a preseason game which makes it different so we'll make it we'll make it a little fun Soto um let's alternate a question that we want answered when the Raiders play the Vikings this Saturday in the preseason right all right it's think it fun do you want to go first or second H you can go first I'll go first okay my first question is the defense for real it took off towards the second half of last season on paper it should be better with adding a pro bowl caliber defensive tackle didn't really lose anyone of crucial substance it's a young defense that again on paper should be better just one year right guys aren't getting older and worse they're getting older and better in their mid 20s we've seen him be awesome in um training camp but it's against an offense that again on paper probably not that great are they just good because they're going against minu and fava that are learning a brand new playbook that they've had in their hands for maybe three weeks or is this defense legit for real and the Vikings don't have this crazy offense that's gonna you know push us but it's a different offense with you know JJ McCarthy is looking really really good in practice right at least by rookie quarterback standards he should give us a little something to look at very curious what kind of Defense shows up uh my first question I want to have answered is is the offensive philosophy going to change from last season now the scheme's going to change of course because we have a new offensive coordinator but is the philosophy going to change last season it was it was basically playing to a playing to a manageable third down as opposed to being a a little bit more Progressive and a little bit more modern uh with the play calling which quarterback will protect the ball better that's the I think that's the pretty easy question and you'll get like a pretty good answer a pretty simple answer to it right either you know who threw the most picks who dropped the most you know who dropped the ball the most and not and not even just you know and you can argue a little better right like you can throw a bad pass that you're lucky it wasn't picked you know what I mean like hey that that all would have been picked or you know that's you know you're L you fum with the ball you're lucky your lineman jumped on it not the def defense jumped on it who's protecting the ball better big eye on that one what what Young player or or maybe what rookie player is going to show that he was um he's a steal in the draft does the o line maintain their multiple Seasons long run of having the synergy make them better than the sum of their parts because again our our old line just purely based on who's there is below average just pure talent experience it's below average Old Line purely personnel-wise but the last three seasons we've played much better than the o line like on paper even when the o line wasn't good two seasons ago it was still better than it was on paper last season it was very good in in very specific instances way better than the guys that are on there so are they gonna be better than to some of their parts here's one that we didn't haven't discuss and it I'm kind of surprised it took us this long how is the new kickoff gonna look the reason why I haven't talked about it is because I have no clue where to go with this no idea that's that's the question how how's it gonna look does Daniel Carlson even do it exactly do you want your what's his contract 16 million or something like do you want a guy that has 54 yard field goals be automatic risk him tackling some 210 pound running back like do you even risk that yeah I don't know about that that's a rough one I mean I want it I want it I mean Tom McMahon's got his hands full man like it's I mean all do all 32 Special Teams coaches do but but he has an even harder question you've got one of the best kickers in the league do you risk that in something where like you don't want Carlson tackling people you don't need a big leg you just need an accurate leg Yeah like it's one of those things where it's like hey our backup safety play you know was the kicker in high school like you can do it you know yeah not kicking it far right uh my last one Antonio Pierce how crazy does he get with the minutia timeouts at the right time challenges at the right time is he gon to get like rule [ __ ] by veterans like we've seen right like what kind of like I want to see him really Flex his sideline coaching in the preseason because he needs to like make your mistakes now be gutsy try something crazy like this is where you make your mistakes like get those feet right you're sparring throw hard you know uh I'm kind of interested to look and see um how Brock Bowers is used are they gonna move him around a lot uh and show their hand or are they just gonna kind of be more vanilla with him that's kind of interesting okay those are our questions for the preseason first game rers what up with me I'm nervous man for a preseason game that's a good that's a good feeling I'm glad you're nervous for appre it's n I'm nervous because I really do think this team can can win a lot of games but it it can't be the same as last year we can't we can't play that way and if our quarterbacks show that they're who they showed who they were last year here yeah I'm real nervous because even though it's it is preseason you can you can tell like all right that's gonna be kind of tough thing to to to overcome yeah we'll see if like the bright lights because I feel like mchu responds to pressure well I think you can get the best out of him the the best version of mshu right not he's gonna turn into uh Steve Young or anything but like the best version of mshu I feel like shines when the lights are brightest type of thing we'll see we'll see who can rise to the occasion but again I still think it comes down to who understands the Playbook the best and who protects the ball the best I think that guy gets the job I think someone's going to lose it versus someone's gonna like just wow us all with something I mean that'd be nice yeah oh that's the goal right that's what AP wants crushes it right he just like just big swinging dicks it just like give me the ball audible at line of scrimmage go route touchdown like one of these things like in your face AP a ap's one of the coaches that would be like he's like hey Aiden call timeout he's like no hike throws like a 40 yard bomb right like that's the [ __ ] AP would dig is someone that just like says [ __ ] you I'm think Gruden is a good coach but as long as he's in charge of the roster you're going to hit a hard ceiling I mean people forget that the team didn't break through until he was gone the last two seasons before when he was there you saw late season collapses every season so there's nothing that tells me that we wouldn't have had another late season collapse had guden still been there because that's what he's that's what he showed by the way he coached and the way he handled the team and the roster so it didn't it didn't kind of like jump up and I mean the last his last coach his last coaching job was he lost to a rookie Justin fields at home and um it it didn't look it didn't look better until basa took over so um yeah I think taty has a little bit of a you know a clouded memory as far as that goes DJ Matt Black 83 they don't respect they don't respect us because we never succeed period won't be taken seriously until we win the division and make the playoffs consistently so this is a comment on your video from Monday um we'll put a link to it up there for those of you who didn't see it it was titled why the media hates the Raiders do you want to give this kind of a um little Cliff Notes sure um 43 minute video yeah it's basically we we we were winning games despite a lot of things that good teams do well and we were doing the same things that teams that weren't very good were doing so we played like a lot of bad teams uh and we didn't do a lot of things that good teams do Mo the a couple like the the the like big things we to to too high of our of our percentage of plays were third Downs I believe it was 24% of our plays were third Downs which means we were constantly getting to third down uh we weren't throwing the ball well uh downfield and by downfield I don't even mean deep I mean past 10 yards uh that's very difficult if you can't have a defense respect you and they crowd you look what h i used Jimmy G as an example they knew Jimmy G wasn't going to throw the ball deep so they just kind of crowded him and he threw the a lot of interceptions because of that um and another thing offensively was we weren't able to use our best weapon um Devonte Adams had the lowest average of yards per go route ran in the league out of all at least a 100 go routes his average was 04 yards per go route and the best in the league was Tyreek Hill at four yards per go route so 16 times that uh when we threw a goal route ball to Devonte Adams that ball was inaccurate 63% of the time it's things that Devonte got his cardio last season rning for no reason sure did so off that's offensively what what the issues were uh defensively the issues that we you know we we talked about it uh the seven of the last 10 quarterbacks that we faced were uh backup quarterbacks and um instead of having the second hardest schedule last season because of the injuries that to the teams that we we faced we ended up having the 24th you know toughest schedule uh ending up the season and uh I mean it's it's things that you can't ignore you know it's things it's it it was a a decent sample size 10 games is not nothing uh and uh those are just a couple of the things that I looked at and I I went into a little bit more detail about certain things but that's kind of like the overview of of of what it was that's why I mean I understand why the media is saying that uh you know we're not going to be [ __ ] next year but ultimately I said it before the start of last season not everything goes wrong even to bad teams there's all there there's some things that do go right and um we just need a couple of things to go right and uh you know we do have the talent uh on other parts of the like special teams and defensively we do have uh a lot of talent there if just a couple things change from last season offensively I think we can we can win a lot of games well it's it's like I talked about if you're a national reporter a national analyst and you got 32 teams to worry about what do you do when you get to the Raiders you're like all right over 20 years no playoff wins different coach every two and a half Seasons not really a quarterback this season you're like H all right they're going to suck and honestly when you're just spend five minutes on a team that's probably the accurate way to do it right again we're balls deep in this team we see thing you know we see a lot more than the national writers do because we're it's all of our focuses on this so I think that's also part of it too is just like you look at surface level what matters most brand new rookie head coach unproven head coach quarterback situations arguably the worst in the league that's that's rough right that's a rough two things to get over out of the gate again we think AP is better than most rookies um you know everything that fava had to go through last season he doesn't probably doesn't have to this season it should get much better this season how much better we'll find out right and the other part is too the Raiders have a huge fan base like the Raiders are a premier franchise with a giant fan base so the national media wants to talk about them now if you don't have anything good to say then you'll say the other stuff you know what I mean like people want to yeah you can't be in the middle you can't be the middle drivers Raiders drive you know Raiders get you clicks they get you ratings they get you views so these National Riders will talk about them and so they're just like what are we gonna talk about rookie head coach don't have a quarterback let's [ __ ] on him because we got nothing you know we got to talk about him I got nothing you know there's nothing interesting are good to talk about that's the other part of it too is you're going to get yeah a lot of Raiders coverage and when and when the Raiders are good In fairness of the national media when the Raiders are on a win streak or doing well they they got our backs like they get excited because they know Raider Nation we're gonna be at the edge of our seat watching ESPN watching YouTube going online reading all the blogs because things are going great and there's a huge Raider Nation that wants to read about it when things are going great but when things are you know off seon and everything's kind of they're going to go the other way they're going to talk Raiders there are a lot of unknowns and those unknowns are generally in areas that are very important you know one of the things I said in the video is you look in you look at a and it's it holds true uh to coming into this season the three probably the three most important people in a franchise are going to be your head coach your quarterback and your offensive coordinator well we have a offensive coordinator wash out right we have a head coach who has what 10 games of coaching experience and we have either a quarterback who was a fourth round SEC you know fourth round second year player or you know a career backup so I get it and that's what I said it it it was it was a little bit more difficult for me to take that that stance as far as you know why the media hates us because I don't believe it I believe that a lot of more things are going to go right for us than are going to go wrong for us and um I do believe that uh o' connell's gonna see a bigger leap into the second season is it going to be enough of a jump to overthrow what mchu can do with this set of weapons and this this offense I don't know we'll see but I do think that both of those players are going to perform better than they did last season we got a football game to watch this Saturday stto BR I will be working do you want to wait until like 8 o'clock to do the post show or do you want to do it solo immediately uh I mean I can do it I can do it it's fine okay yeah I'll just watch I'll be a fan this time but we we will be doing po like we're back to post shows baby preim you know preseason
