College Football 25: Arizona State vs Mississippi State - Week 2 | CPU vs CPU Dynasty, RFL CS7!

[Music] welcome to starville Mississippi affectionately referred to as star Vegas where earplugs are highly recommended because the cow bells will be ringing what a scene this is a veritable caval of colors strip after strip that they hope leaves the visitors dizzy as we see a squad from the Big 12 the Arizona State sundevil taking on a team from the SEC the Mississippi State Bulldog for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the Boo as always by Mississippi State ready to kick off to get this game started start he'll start the return inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 so Arizona State's offense takes the field to start this game off and there he is The Man David that they build this entire attack around and it's so nice to have a guy that makes everything easy for the people around him the quarterback plays better because the feature is clear who who that is and we all hold our breath every time this guy touches the football he's able to take it the distance on any given play they opened up this drive getting all the way out to the 35 and now it's first down again he's going to pass looking for an open area to his left and they got him for the sack it has been said that the other team's quarterback must go down and he must go down hard and he did and often is good too the most you can get to him but great job by the defense rushing the quarterback understanding pass and getting the big fell on the ground after the big first down sack for the D it's second down leaves it with the back knock down after getting six all the way out to the 34 yd line they line up with some serious work to do if they wants to convert this one on Third and long he has to throw for it shoots it to the left a strike downfield the defense got caught that time and they finally get him on the ground at the 41 there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver uh at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way you decided he wins a football now on second down leaves it with the back runs through a tackle and he fights his way forward gets away from one but not much doing on that [Applause] one they'll run playaction and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knock the ball to the ground fourth down coming up and on fourth down here comes the field goal unit and he missed it no good guys after the Miss no change in the score you can't miss opportunities like that they're playing on the road in a hostile environment they're trying to seize momentum right out of the gate you get a nice drive to start the game and then you miss the field goal you don't get any points to show for that if they're going to win this one guys they've got to take advantage of those types of opportunities that 53 yd attempt was well within his range but now this offense will take over at its own 36 out of the gun they'll run it inside after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven wide out in motion quick pass on the jet motion really nice stop there from this senior leader they've got it at the 41 third and short trying to keep the chains moving movement here from the tight end off the play fake dances away and the quarterback was trying to extend the play and the defense brought it to a close and this is what the offense knows they cannot do they can't allow sacks in their last game they were sacked five times obviously lost that football game and early in this one they're having issues again keeping their quarterback standing up straight Mississippi state will roll out the punt unit first time we've seen their punch team this afternoon signals for the fair Catch and that's where they'll put it in play just outside the 20 Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark RPO complete to open the Drive he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down kept it on the ground last time bringing up a second down they'll try the Run he gets those chains moving gets it out to the 42 yd line they are dialed in on this drive a couple of Chunk plays and now they'll snap it on first down caught in the back field it's ryb these two conferences have been tied together for years through the Sugar Bowl a little testing this with the whole Texas Oklahoma thing and now the Rivalry on the field between the Big 12 and the secc yeah and Conference realignments played a big factor too between these two conferences think back to when Texas A&M and miss Missi joined the SEC so this is always a fun one to watch David wide openen offense from the Big 12 and then you get the physicality and the speed from the SEC I think you nailed it right there two totally different worlds they live in different worlds all the time one is is pitchy pitchy woooo throw it around all over the yard the other one physicality which style can present itself today and win the ball game got his back chopping up this defense and they've got it all the way down to the 23 and I love the awareness by the wide receiver on that play because I'm not sure that route was supposed to be that deep you got to wonder if the receiver decided maybe to adjust the route a little bit to make sure that he got the first down and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down they'll go to the air the quick out as college football involves guys and players have more rights and they capitalize on name image of likeness and teams are in different conferences maybe the biggest thing and the thing that keeps coaches up at night dealing with the transfer for cuz they got to make sure that everybody in their locker room is happen often times you're re-recruiting your own players and trying to keep the Wolves at Bay the phone calls that are coming in from other programs trying to steal your guys it is not he probably as difficult as it's ever been David to be a head coach now with the transfer it is and think about players man if I'm not happy if I'm not getting the run I want like I can just leave I can go get some go somewhere else I can get paid by another opportunity so I think players always having their having their eyes to that portal looking at a better destination makes it miserable for coaches here's this offense with a fresh set of downs the give to Davis a knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 got three on first down it's second and seven [Applause] rides to the backat discards a man barrels all the way to the 29 a gain of six they'll try to muscle their way forward on Third and short from the 29 motion from the offense try to get the edge with a quick touch pass still on his feet at the 40 they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about they say you could call holding on every play well they did on that one on third down he drops to throw and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down so Mississippi state will have to punt this one [Applause] away hand goes into the air for the fair Catch and the catch is made around the 40 first down here for the offense they'll come out on this drive and let it rip using the quick game and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short game right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium they'll run it from the gun can't get him to the ground a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior that last run leaves him with a third down will they keep it on the ground off play action fires a bullet now it's picked off and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception well I love the job by the coaching staff there defensively matching the Personnel of the offense putting their dime package out on the field so you bring out the extra defensive back you're anticipating a pass perfect timing to run that person now and you get the pick [Music] the offense lining up for a first down [Applause] play quick completion to the right excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first [Applause] down defense has dominated the early part of this game and the stats point that out emphatically both sides trying to find a little rhythm and efficiency and move the ball some here as we start the second quarter wants to throw on first down off the play F got him downfield and they'll finally catch up to him but before a big chunk of yardage is picked [Applause] up they've marched to the Red Zone and here they go into the Hallelujah land touchdown Mississippi State can't start a game any better than that defense gets the stop gets it back to the offense you march down the field you score there in a great rhythm now on both sides of the [Applause] [Music] ball lining up to tack one more onto that lead extra point and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin week in and week out guys you never know what's going to happen in college football check this out the home team is within Striking Distance but time is not on their side I'm to see if they can solve this riddle Troy has managed to tune out this crowd and that's a reflection on the upper classman on this team they lead by example and no surprise here we are it's just a field goal game they're trailing by three to Troy any big developments in this wand we've got you covered with dangerous after the fact so it's okay for him to make catches just got to get him to the ground quickly they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and Three Fires into traffic it's picked off takes it the other way he's at the 40 the 20 and he will roll into the end zone touchdown bog look a lot of time left there's a little bit of distance right now being put on the scoreboard there is but it's so awesome when you're a defense and you study all we about what's coming and what routes to be ready for and then you jump the route and you make the play and you just go get in that End Zone it is so beautiful P unit on the field point and the extra point pushes the lead to [Applause] they're about to kick it away and the defense probably can't wait to get back out there after the pick six fielded In The End Zone it's Arsenal didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like defensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 at this point and I would also say Paul kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here make something happen on this side of the football the Sun Devils have it with the first and 10 he'll try to pop the draw he picks up maybe a couple before he stopped right at the 30yd line picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll give it to the back pretty good job of running to get two there to the 32 third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off and he was drilled just as he released the pass it's incomplete and the sundevils decide to pun it away they'll put that return to a stop at the 33 but the offense set up in pretty good field position they'll start this drive at the 33 yd line out of the gun the running back has it at the 45 on his way what a Nifty one there to pick up the first down that's quite a start to a drive and now they'll snap it from Midfield to the ground he's got it again and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop after the productive first down play it's second and six they'll ride Davis here finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down two running backs alongside the quarterback quarterback on the keeper well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen if you had his athleticism you'd want to keep you too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it and try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure he's making the right decisions moving [Applause] forward just an obvious holding call there and that just kills an offense's momentum run the gun the running back has it they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one this is a third and long he's looking downfield to throw feeling the heat as he lets it Go and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and that one will Sail Out of Bounds no chance for a return there line gets set first down single back formation and they give it to him gets it across the 30 to the 31 they pick up of five halfway there on first down it's second and five they go to the draw they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one it'll take some work to get to the sticks it's third third and long from the 30 from the gun wants to pass and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete the sundevils will send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away wants to return it coverage team was down there to coring they made the Stop and they'll mark it at the 39 first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning used the play fake now to throw he's got it and they got the defense on that one and they get it to the 29 yd line wide receiver now comes in motion they'll throw it on first down a shot toward the end zone touchdown Bulldog what a grab and go for the score after starting the season 0 and one theun felt like they just left play on the field in that first game but so far today they're taking advantage QB is making good decisions guys are stepping up they've limited the mental mistakes they haven't turned the football over it's a different looking offense here in game two he'll try to tack on one more and with the extra point they're up 21 to nothing aggressive play calling on that drive just two plays they get the long touchdown pass to pay it [Applause] off on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark and the heat gets there and they get him down at the 14 yd line I know it's early in this game but man this defense has had their number they done a great job already built a huge lead now getting this offense in a situation where they got to pass the football and they better protect their quarterback better than they are right now they need something that goes forward this time on second along from the 14 he's looking to throw wide open downfield and he's marked down right there but a good pick up and it'll be a first down he's looking to throw it and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down after the misfire it's second and 10 he's looking to throw going to try to pop one on the screen and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up passing game very effective on second down what about here on third third down they'll try to pick up the first through the air quick completion on the out route there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half catch in the middle it's Beasley they'll rip off eight on that play it's second and two here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half he'll just keep slinging it and it'll be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep couldn't pick it up on second down now they need a couple on third down they'll try to get it through the air grabb near the marker it's rinol a quick tackle made but he's got ready for the first down and that's first for the off he want the throw they're working that left side and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one well it's a nice play design there you're getting the running back involved in the pass game quarterback gives it to him early so he can go to work up field and get the first [Applause] down and here's the chance to cut into that lead before halftime first and goal looking to throw fires into the end zone can't make the grab as he was looking for his man right at the goal line defense rose up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw touchdown sundevils and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and put six on the board man nice job getting the passing game going th this is big man going into the half and listen I know you're trailing but build so momentum maybe this second half we can keep airing the football out cutting into this deficit and who knows what the heck will [Music] happen ready to try the point after and after the extra point they're now down 21-7 we check in with Kevin Connors what's going on Kevin lot of eyeballs on your game guys and a few this interesting matchup as well Auburn is ahead early in Jordan hair but that's not exactly Bo Jackson out there running the ball this game is a long way from being over they're up by seven over Ball State will Circle back if anything changes in this exciting college Starkville and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the EXP exp plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most with that said let's send it back to the guys at Davis Wade Stadium here he comes from inside his zone five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Mississippi State offense headed back to the field to go to work he's going to let one fly down the middle and that'll be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter on first down but second Down's coming up he couldn't make the connection last time let's see if theyd throw it again from the gun running back on the Move good solid determined run there they'll Mark him down at the 27 they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 27 the option look now the pitch pitch and the fourth option there is to throw it in reverse and that's what happened on that one Mississippi state will roll out the punt unit fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt signals for the fair Catch and looks it in at the 40 first snap of this drive comes from their own 41 comes out throwing on first down finds his tight end didn't pick up aot there moved it Forward just and the Sun Devils are in the hurry up hand off to the single back fighting off the defender and he's brought down after a nice game the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 the might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down nyd pickup on first down and now they can take a shot on second and short the give to the running back from the shotgun great move there he showed it all there a little elusiveness a little power and he's got the first down the sundevils are rolling down the field from the Red Zone looking for a receiver and he has a solid gain on the play before sliding going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first without scoring they'll try to pick it up on the ground he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and they'll send out the field goal [Applause] unit it's [Applause] good the Mississippi State 21 Arizona State 10 [Music] after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to go looking for an alley from inside his own 10 really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 off the play fake on first down to throw and that will be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter if they completion before the defense brings him down and this defense is going to have their hands full because they're going to need to be comfortable with guys one-on-one on islands in the perimeter of the field and they're just going to have to make better plays than what we saw right there they knew this offense was going to try to be aggressive strong pass rush gets to the quarterback and they get him at the 46 playaction pass success has a lot to do with selling that fake you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play Big first down sack for the defense brings up second down fast motion from the offense quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up they line up and it is a Long Way to the sticks from here on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air and they'll Pat the kicker on the tail and tell him to go give it a shot he's going to have to break out the thunderfoot on this one a 57 yd attempt thought he had it and couldn't get it through the uprights he missed it after the Miss still an 11-point game guysa state [Applause] Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field had to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out in the field stall a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here DAV yeah and listen I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focus on execution and getting six points shotgun snap wants to throw it on Third and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down and the Sun Devils will put this one away you'd think they would have had a good chance to down that one deep but the bounce carries it into the end zone for the Touchback off the play fake on first down and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball second down coming up wide receiver shows motion the give to the bat and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup and they'll line up from the 31 on first [Applause] down he'll pull it on the read Bulls his way forward and the ball slipped out oh the fumble and the defense got it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own well the quarterback did everything right in terms of his reads on that option play he was supposed to keep it but he's got to do a better job of holding on to the ball give the defense credit for getting to him and creating the takeaway Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark you got field position like this and you're not likely to punt the way they did the last time they had the ball yeah great job by the defense setting them up in an opportunity to get some points on the board quicking this is an opportunity you got to capitalize on this field position you must come away with points here if you're on offense looking to the big tight end excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away guys this offense is already reeling down multiple possessions really need to cash in on this drive another incompletion on third down it's fourth down and they'll try the field goal and they'll kick it from the left side a 44 yd try it is perfect so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away on the run from inside of own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 offense getting set for first down they'll ride the running back and leave it with it finds a little bit of space gets three to the 22 after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven he'll do it himself got enough for the first and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big [Applause] play off the play fake on first down wants to throw and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they'd throw it again trying play action throws for the tight end makes the grab they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks Mississippi state has this drive hitting on all [Applause] cylinders power football with the run and a good solid pick up for the defense Cuts him down after the productive first down play it's second and six from the shotgun they'll run it and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground lining up to convert third down to the ground to try to move the chains he just needed a yard on third down and there just wasn't any room to pick it up would have been a long field goal 54 yds from here so instead they'll try to move the chains it's Fourth and short what a day is it's been on the ground for these two guys and they just seem to get stronger as the game goes along as we take a look at the numbers one quarter to go and might we have the makings of a classic fourth quarter [Music] finish on the option the pitch he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down Bulldogs come to the line with a new set of downs he'll put the tight end in motion they'll switch it up here and look to throw makes the catch and he will score touchdown Mississippi State what a difference of change of scenery makes right I mean they went into a hostile environment they lost their first game but they've rebounded beautifully and I think coming back playing in front of their home crowd really has impacted this game it's gotten him back to [Music] 500 they'll try to attack one more on their score and the extra point splits the upright in the lead balloons to 15 let's go to the studio now and check in with Kevin Conor Kevin what do you got guys let's take a look at what's happening in a great College football match up Kenna saw state is currently a big right now I got to think cob county is ready to party long into the night they're up 14 over the coyotes we'll Circle back if anything big happens in this college football matchup oh and how about that I know Kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye on it for us on second down they'll take to the air got his man downfield he stay aggressive and push their way out to the 33 and it's first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs off play action on first down and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense when it's a playaction pass that quarterback he really has to sell the fake he can't tell his offensive Line's getting beat right away while he selling the fake he had no shot after not getting a thing done on first down it's second and long from the 24 he's looking to throw got away from trouble and got rid of it he's got his man they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down on Third and long try to convert through the air quarterback tried to scramble around for a while but the defense able to bring him down how frustrating for an offense to not only see the extra defensive back with the dime package but still have their quarterback get hit yeah when you go di this is a passing situation and if you're a defensive lineman I'm pinning my ears back I'm not playing the slightest bit of run I don't care if they run the football I'm getting to the quarterback nice job understanding that rushing the quarterback getting him on the ground on the Move looking for a little little sliver of hope that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yardage you can and help out the offense he'll start this drive firing he got a hand in there knocked it away incomplete after the misconnection it's second down the playaction fake and the ball comes out what a disastrous play oh looks as if the defense got it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its to and this is one of those where you go o you you start to breathe a little deeper on the sidelines you felt really really comfortable having the big lead to plus two possessions in the fourth quarter but now you gave the ball back you put yourself in a position where you're going to have to earn it a little bit more now Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field they'll go to the ground and bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and [Applause] 11 out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back got enough space and he's loose and he'll take it to the house touchdown Arizona State the man these ball carriers they've got a lot of ability in the open field their ability to make people Miss but also show off the speed you saw all of that on that play and with the lead sitting at nine they'll try to make it a onep possession game and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer about to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown he'll bring it back from inside to SP didn't find any inrease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 here comes the Mississippi State offense ready to attack and they've got a little bit of a cushion here David if they can add to it on this drive it would be nice and it definitely makes a little bit of a difference no one I'm about by more their field goal obviously Jesse my mindset switches and I know I can't make mistakes yeah and David I don't think they have to reinvent the wheel on offense here what they've been calling has been working just get back to doing what you're good at passing game very effective on second down what about here on third out of the gun the inside K now they'll really try to get this drive going good execution on third down as they have it first and 10 at the [Applause] 31 might as well give it to him again finds enough room to get three out to the 34 got three on first down it's second and seven [Applause] pulls it and fires to the left they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker they'll try to move the chains on the ground and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains Mississippi State really efficient on offense right now they'll it they want to take their time here at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist and he's saying which runs work the best for me in this game what can I and they couldn't hold off the heat and he goes down with the sack I think if you're the head coach here it's a bit of a mixed reaction to your passing attack so far in this game you put up a bunch of yards throwing the football you've lit up the scoreboard but you've also given up four sacks pass protection has been a problem so far in this game and they've converted their first two third down opportunities but a third and long is a different animal looking to throw and he needs a chunk Play N third down pass left a vapor trail but it's incomplete so Mississippi state will have to punt this one away they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today no return coming he'll call for the fair catch Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark to the air on first down he looks that one in nicely that's about as close as you can get to that marker and it will be second and just a few breaths away from the first down the offense will have to use its first time out of the half fires to the tight end and he's ruled down right there but he'll have plenty to move the sticks we have reached a two-minute warning and time is of the essence if this offense is going to make a play how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion and here comes the offense on second down they want to just keep throwing it oh so close to paying off the tip drill he had it in his hands but it falls incomplete third and long and he'll try to throw for it and he can't find anyone open and down he goes a sack here late in the fourth third Downs are so crucial when quarterbacks you wanted to be you know Elite with their functioning be able to go through their progressions get rid of the football not take sacks but they just took a sack how about the individual effort by that defense understanding third down and get into the quarterback it's a onore game late and they've got to go for it on fourth down can find his man it'll be incomplete and that is a heartbreaker this late in the game the run from the shotgun and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop him timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible wide receiver coming across in motion quick pass on the Fly motion and he'll be taken down but he does the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense and the quarterback's just going to take a knee let's see what they've got on second down looking for a physical attack from the gun able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the
