You need to know where Bungie is taking | Destiny 2

[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] it's [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right hello Guardians and Gamers and welcome back let's just uh kick it over to the full camera screen for a couple of minutes so I'm going to be going over what Bungie has released uh to us letting us know as the community what we got um going forward cuz I mean months and months now we've kind of been sitting in the dark going hey uh you know is is this it or are you guys going to you know completely break the mold and uh try something new with Destiny it's kind of really been up in the air and um it's it's really nice to see that bunge has put something forward um let alone to say everything everything uh that we are seeing is uh you know it it it's subject to change so whether this is going to be you know set in solid or it's just more like a um uh what do you want to call it like a you know a plan bit of a plan a bit of a uh what is the word I'm looking for uh probably uh an outline type thing um but yeah let's uh let's get into it and uh we'll see so uh first off it is code name Frontiers and as we're going to see a lot of things in here is just like code names for everything they're it's it's bunge they're not going to actually release the name for things it just might give too much details away right uh so let's take a look at the first part get rid of my camera and uh let's uh see what we got on the go here so Paving the way for New Frontiers um so this did come out September 9th I know I am a little bit late hey what are you going to do uh but I'm going to bring it out to you guys and uh the community and see what you guys think and make sure that everybody is well informed and know that uh Destiny is going to be around for many years to come so far uh so today marks the 10year anniversary which was September 9th uh we set out in 2014 to do something new and different for our studio uh We've con uh We've conquered the witness looted dungeons ascended to the lighthouse and more and I mean the more part is is is a ton more so uh now we looked to the Future uh we're plotting our course to the Stars uh through code name Frontiers uh we've closed doors with the final shape so that's the uh the end of the light in the dark Saga um really how that is going to look going forward is going to be interesting um to me is it just ending something that's coming after the track traveler or coming after us for using the dark or being an instrument of the traveler I I'm not too sure how that's going to look or what our powers or abilities are going to be who knows we we might just end up with the darkness subclasses but be like a good part of the darkness sign I'm not too sure uh so we've closed doors uh with the final shape uh but we were opening new ones a weird one an exciting one that takes Destiny to a place where it has never been before uh we're building this future now uh and are excited to share with you the first glimpse of it today so let's take a look at the road map this is pretty much the big thing that uh Bungie has come out with so uh left side of the road map we got the expansions we got the uh seasonal updates and we got the reward passes so expansions so we're going to have uh new stories new locations New Missions uh new weapons and New Gear new raids and dungeons so it's pretty much sounding a lot the same uh hopefully the content will be different though uh so season updates so we'll have new reprised activities new gear and artifact mods new modifiers and challenges new Sandbox meta uh and new events reward pass uh we're going to have exotic weapon and ornaments legendary weapon and armor or ornaments gear upgrade resources um as well as cosmetics and more the Cosmetics they're they're definitely not going away you can't lose that Revenue so taking a quick look so summer of 2025 uh we've got the launch of code name Apollo whether that actually launches in the summer of 2025 or it's pushed back who knows but like like it said everything that we're going to be seeing on here is subject to change uh so the summer of 2025 major update code name Arsenal uh reward pass and then next we've got the fall of 2025 uh next major update which is code name surge also part of the uh reward pass um and then it leads into the winter of 2025 uh we get another big expansion so basically the these two the Apollo and the Behemoth are dlc's so they're going to be completely separate uh Apollo is going to get uh two seasons so it's going to be uh three months uh for this Arsenal code name Arsenal so when it does come out it'll be a completely different name and code name surge so we got three months of Arsenal three months of surge then next uh in in the winter we're going to have the next DLC which is Behemoth um it is uh also has uh two seasons as well uh doesn't exactly say the code names for them but uh I'm just going to say they're going to have two seasons so moving on from that taking a quick look at what else they have in here I want to kind of keep this short and sweet uh so this road map uh lays out our plan for year 11 and Beyond with some exciting changes uh to our annual model uh so two expansions per year like I said the Apollo and the Behemoth uh four major updates of free content every year now I am not exactly sure how they're structuring that like you pay for the pass and you and you get the uh um uh the seasons included or I'm not too sure how that's going to look uh over in the next few months uh we will be sharing more info uh with you in um with you on code name Frontiers uh which is how we are describing a major Innovation uh coming to Destiny over the next few years starting with our next expansion uh code name Apollo uh we have several Dev Insight deep Dives going live today um I'm not couldn't get into the deep Dives I do have them in here but it is more for another video uh it is very indepth so I'm going to not drag it out in one video and make you guys suffer um and it's more content why not uh So Co name Apollo we have several de Insight uh deep Dives going live today we will continue to add more to this list over the uh weeks and months to come so hopefully Bungie will be a bit more handson with the community and have a bit more input um as to where they will be going with everything uh so today uh we also have Tyson green the game director for Destiny and Allison lures I I'm I'm going to say lures because I that might be German and I'm probably not pronouncing it right I'm very sorry uh the destiny 2 narrat uh narrative director uh diving through some of our future plans for Destiny 2 our goal is to be more transparent uh in our Communications with you uh this means sharing uh our work more frequently uh even if your see mistakes uh and false starts along the way we don't really care about that you know if if if uh if something doesn't look you know 100% it's just a sketch you know going through even the Motions of like how things are animated and put together or you know how a planet is going to look um especially have a PTR please you know don't just for an hour or two use a couple people uh to come in and test it out uh have a PTR you know have a group of people they would probably you know give you some really good Insight on things don't use the Community as test guinea pigs please um because things don't end properly and usually people end up angry uh this means sharing our work more frequently uh even if you see where mistakes and fall starts going along uh so please remember uh that our road map and plans like I said are subject to change H as we get deeper uh into development so basically they're going to be adding things changing things uh could be taking things away could be uh later dates than what is already mentioned there's a lot of different uh things that could be so ultimately uh this is your game too we want you to see more of how it is made and why 100% um even even having uh somebody uh with with uh Bungie that um I know they have a department that's you know dedicated to low uh even work close with uh another content creator like B to come out with hey this is going to be some of the lore into the stories of what we have coming out in this uh in this two-section six-month uh Saga that we got coming in here and how it's going to tie in uh so that would actually be pretty cool as well uh we're excited for Destiny to change and improve in ways that allows it to keep evolving uh in the future uh so Dev Insight Deep dive uh So Below uh you will find a list of Dev inside deep Dives for various Innovations coming with code name front here uh will be building upon the sections over the next few months and breakdowns uh of features and changes coming to Destiny honestly these these things um they really could have come a long time ago uh so what we're what we're talking about here and by the way these These are hot links or whatever you want to call them um so you can click on them and it we'll take you right to uh the Deep Dives uh so we got uh core game activities core game rewards and the portal more than likely they are all in here uh so our vision for the future of Destiny 2 so Tyson green ah my name is Tyson green and I'm the game director for Destiny 2 and I'm excited to speak today about our team's vision for Destiny uh first and foremost uh we still love Destiny of course they still love Destiny it's their money maker if they pissed off the community too much they ain't going to make any money uh uh it is uni it is a unique and challenging game for both uh both for you and for us I've personally been working on Destiny for 15 years uh and it and it still excites me creatively so that's absolutely awesome you know hearing that from one of the devs and game directors um that's absolutely awesome that you know the content that they're creating excites them as well as us I mean uh the final shape in my opinion absolute Banger um but yeah uh the witch Queen absolute Banger um lightfall yeah I'm just going to say that uh there are not many games I could say that about uh but at the same time we recognize that it becomes too rigid expansions have started to feel more formulaic um and are over to quickly with little replay value yeah it's it's kind of one of those oneand done you know I can go through it do do I go through it many times yeah hell yeah um unfortunately I've helped more than I've ever wanted to to beat callus in in the lightfall expansion um don't ever ask me to help you with callus please uh so uh season and episodes keep getting bigger uh but can still feel like you are just going through the motions uh we believe it is time for Destiny to change and evolve uh and that our community wants this game to grow and innovate too so the Innovations they they need to be applied into Destiny everything you know it it needs a facelift it needs invigoration uh and to do that uh we need to start breaking some of the molds 100% uh you know it's it's been mentioned by some of the other content creators that it's the same old same old every single season it's uh it's just boring so changing it up uh in in the different ways and adding some things also um you know like they've already been doing with h the Buffs and the debuffs on your screen you know the Buffs go up top the debuffs are on the left side still um but I would like to have a bit more you know be able to move them around myself self uh maybe put them at a different color you know so like a debuff could be red a buff could be yellow uh stuff like that uh so annual expansions uh we are going to start annual uh expansions uh we've loved creating annual expansions and are especially proud of the final shape uh but the truth is that the uh that they dominate almost all of our development effort uh we need to free ourselves up to explore and innovate uh with how we deliver Destinies to content uh so that we can invest in areas of the game uh that will feel more impactful to players um I think it's just uh maybe a bit more better time management uh don't be wasting your time on you know uh mobile games and uh you know trying to invigorate old games you know if this is your uh bread and butter right here you have games that uh are still in development um those games don't make you money until they're being sold and they're live so I'd be focusing on them and not stuff that isn't making any money uh starting next year instead of uh the big expansion we are going to deliver two uh two medium-sized expansions so like I said those are going to be the two six months um two seasons and two seasons so Four Seasons again is what it's looking like uh yeah so not too much of a change in in in that aspect uh each of these uh will depart from onot campaign structure uh we've been using essentially unchanged since Shadow keep uh each uh and each will be an opportunity to explore exciting new formats instead uh we are excited to try new things and uh challenge your idea of what Destiny's experience can be uh we are actively uh photot typing nonlinear campaigns uh exploring experiences similar to the dreaming City uh and whatever the that word is uh Metroid met yeah anyways uh and even more unusual formats uh like roguelike and survival Shooters um each expansion uh will present a new opportunity to try something different so this is actually kind of interesting um thinking about it you know these Road like and survival uh having you know some of these missions feel more like an actual Mission you know where you actually have to take your time and and and go through it that would actually be a little bit more interesting the one thing that I do hate is getting a lot of the quests and the campaigns and it's go here go back there go here go back to the helm go here go back to the helm I have to go back to the Helm and back to nessus one more time I'm going to lose my moving on uh departing from one shot campaigns means we are turning away uh from great sto uh doesn't mean that we are turning away from great storytelling of course not the the lore is absolutely amazing if you stick with it it tells a great story uh going forward we want to return uh the mystery and the Wonder uh that was woven into the fabric of early Destiny uh when the story felt ripe with possibilities and the Epic sense of exploration and Discovery uh great stories are as important uh as ever in our Creative Vision for uh Creative Vision uh and Allison will touch more on that below so Seasons um like I said they're basically going back to the same old model that they had it'll just be kind of different more of a smaller story in that time instead of like the whole DLC is you know uh stretched out over over the um uh Four Seasons you'll have basically the two seasons and it's a whole story and another two seasons where it's a whole story so it'll be a bit more in my opinion interactive uh with the change uh to two expansions per year our seasonal model well be changing as well I don't see it um instead of three episodes uh we will be building four major updates per year uh one every 3 months are you trying to impress new people that think that this stuff we have now is normal because we you could have just said we're going back to the old way because we liked it uh each expansion will launch alongside of major update at the start of the Season uh and the second major update will follow 3 months uh later to refresh the core game uh with new and reprised content including activities uh strikes exotic missions uh or entirely new modes uh like Onslaught Onslaught was an absolute Banger that into the light can't beat that uh absolutely amazing that within itself was awesome uh rewards so weapons uh armor artifact mods Exotics and more uh new weekly events uh new features combat meta and balance updates so that's just going to be a constantly ongoing thing the combat meta and balance updates that that's just ongoing it's not going to change um you could you could add that into every single year that you're going to talk about the game that is not going to change uh the big season uh the big season resets uh will be will still happen uh but now twice a year alongside the expansions so like you said every 6 months you get a new DLC um every DLC has six months worth of content and two seasons uh each update uh will be a substantial refresh of the core game bringing new activities and rewards uh reward activities and reward content uh we are also excited to announce that like Destiny 2 into the light uh these updates and their content will be free to play which is absolutely awesome um you know there's a lot of uh solo players out there or a lot of people that you know can't drop the money uh for a lot of the expansions and want to be able to play with their friends um so it's really good that Destiny is notic or Bungie is noticing that and addressing it um so more people will be able to play the game um we want destiny to be easier for anyone to play or recommend and 100% um how many people on my stream have said to me ah I don't have that expansion or I don't have that dungeon key sorry I can't do that one and uh you know it it kind of sucks because uh you want people to experience exactly what you're able to or you know be able to get the Exotics or the weapons from those dungeons or those activities uh we want to remove the major barrier uh to the experience which means we need to talk about the core game itself uh which leads us into core game title uh the core game is Destiny always uh Destiny's always available Evergreen activity experience and we need to fix two key things with it approachability as well as uh gear and challenge should matter now before we get into this gear and challenge should matter 100% if you are doing endgame content you should not be getting gear that is dropping at 53 you shouldn't be getting gear that's dropping at 60 it should be high stat armor you know you're you're busting your ass off learning the mechanics and you're just getting you know shite shite armor it's kind of discouraging at some points and then eventually when you're playing it you don't even have have to look at it you just hit dismantle because you know it's going to be shite my rant is over let's move on uh the core game uh is Destiny's always available approachability uh first Destiny is too complex 100% um there's so many things that you can do so many things that lead into different things and trying to explain it all it it's It's a Grind there's has been a lot of people that said to me I just can't afford the time to grind like that that um so having things more readily available to people um with with an easier grind definitely uh with literally hundreds of activities uh you uh you practically need a PhD to decide what to play uh and how to get rewards I have a PhD in destinology thank you posting it on my wall uh we're going to start the next fix uh we're uh we're going to start to fix this by uh modernizing activity UI uh the director uh and make it easier for everyone to find and launch into great activities uh and re and we are reworking our reward model uh to make sure that all of those activities are offering meaningful meaningful rewards uh our deep Dives on activities and other Rewards or and rewards going into more detail uh on these challenges in particular so I don't know they're gonna they're GNA go and change the UI again and then us veteran people will be so screwed where's everything now but in in the other hand it should be good um I thought there was a bit of a picture in here on it maybe it was over here so uh I think this is kind of it so you got this uh curator yeah so this this would be what you're looking at right this is what they're talking about the UI ux changes um so the curator the quest season map destination store this is literally in my opinion just easily slapped together you know they went and put some circles and a diamond in here put Solo Ops you know easy to find easy uh easy wording uh moving on and back up to where I was at uh as for Awards uh the these two changes will help the core game experience and easier to drop into and uh in much deeper in terms of variety and pursuit of Personal Mastery uh and they are starting uh and are a starting point for ongoing changes aimed to continuing to improve Destiny in these rewards uh the next multiplayer Saga starts with code name Apollo so a lot of people have been uh talking about this picture you know exactly what we got here um there's actually two pictures that kind of go with this cuz you're looking at these balloons um these balloons in my opinion are are pods from the ship you know you got a crft ship here on a planet uh and you have Escape pods so where we traveling and then we crash and uh the you know the Escape pods but on the other hand where the hell did this boat come from because it looks pretty humanish except for the black wavy stuff which is kind of interesting but yeah so that's what I think they are I think they're uh Escape pods uh the next multi-year Saga starts with k Nam Apollo uh Allison Le uh hello I'm Allison uh and in the DT Nar or I am the D2 narrative director um I'm a fresh face at Bungie I started doing uh narrative Direction uh for season uh for seasons in Fall 2022 uh and my first D2 expansion was the final shape so that's pretty cool um I did like the narration and the direction that it was going in the final shape so good job Allison uh we're proud of the final shape uh and the ending we created for the light and darkness Saga now saying that I would have loved Cade as my ghost you know if uh Kade gave us the light and then you had like The Ghost and Kate kind of you know together but hey Nathan phillian probably wasn't signing the contract for that but it would have been awesome just saying that um and we knew that episodes that follow uh would act as an epilogue tying up the light and uh the light and dark um dark's hanging threads uh but also setting up for the next I don't know how it's setting up for the next cuz it's it's kind of tying up the end it has to be almost a blank slate of you know Guardians done wiping your hands clean the hive are always and we're going to move on uh the episodes uh close doors and open new ones purposeful ones story lines that are set in place uh to prepare us uh for what is to come next and uh what is our next uh what is next in our Saga uh you'll see teases uh of it later in episodes so that's actually kind of cool that they have parts of it in our episodes um but like I said I'm not going to uh go too much further CU there uh there really isn't too much more in here um is really beneficial Apollo it's you know it's saying Apollo is nonlinear so there isn't going to be like a well this is where this is what you are and this is what your objective is so it's basically going to be multiple different objectives and multiple different ways of doing it it isn't going to be a to B it isn't going to be C to D it could be a to d it could be C to D could be any any sort of things it isn't going to be really really linear and the biggest thing that I like about Destiny is the maps are never linear you're able to go anywhere you you see over there usually you can go over there uh so previous in stories of final shape uh you experience like I said the A to B to C to d uh in a nice straight line and code name Apollo I story takes place over dozens of threads you'll explore uh and discover so it to me it's it's basically leading you into experience um different things which will give them feedback um which will also let them know which ways that they can take things in the future going forward uh so when you land on our brand new locations uh the story starts at a uh and then you can choose if you want to explore C first or uh try and get to b or maybe investigate D so they're going to have multiple different locations many different ways you can go um it's going to be yours to choose uh and the option uh you didn't choose don't worry uh those other options are still open uh for you to go back and play through you uh you'll need to so you're still going to have to finish everything but it doesn't matter in what order you finish everything uh because the more you play uh and discover the more the story progresses The Experience uh so experience a certain number of threads opens up the next part of the story uh the order in which you expl Explorer uh will be something you choose but you will have built the code name uh but we have built code name Apollo in a way the story always makes sense and flows from beginning to middle to end so that's good it doesn't matter which way you're going to change it's still all going to make sense in the end um there's no time gating no waiting for the next drop code name Apollo uh story unfolds based on the players's progression so the more you want to do the more you do the more you explore is the more of the campaign or the story that you're going to be able to access there won't be any like I said that time gating on stuff you know so instead of waiting oh we have um next week is is a little bit of more of a drop of content and so on it'll just be all at once and uh yeah into the unknown um this all sounds like big change and it is because the rhythm of our story becomes predictable uh or when characters in our world fail to change uh that's how we create a situation not a story so exactly the the situation is people are upset this the story has become very es skewed and people aren't happy with it the gaml just has not matched the story um that's why you know like technically right now in my opinion the guardian should basically be a god you kill the God you should be a God uh uh but yet you get two shot by a hive Knight you know and Bungie's answer for that is well if you were as powerful as a God everything would just be you you'd on shoot everything so you wouldn't have the game to play for it to be fun right uh so that means evolving the world giving space for new characters growing and evolving factions and I want this back factions bring back factions 100% something to strive forward if it's you know future or cult if it's dead orbit um new monarchy those factions that was absolutely amazing I love those things D1 uh making sure the story We Tell is in a world we have n uh nurtured uh and with characters who grow in turn uh we believe in rewarding the player for paying attention without uh punishing someone for not knowing something so it's just people knew that join just don't know where anything is at like they they had said it's so confusing with uh you know where to go uh what I need to do for the rewards what I need to do for the missions and quests so having having that all sorted out um will definitely make it a whole lot easier even trying to explain everything within your community is yeah it can get uh a little over overwhelming and daunting at times uh so we believe in rewarding players attention not punishing them uh uh that way everyone gets to come along for the ride uh no matter how deep in the lore they are uh you'll see that approach starting with episodes and continuing uh into the new multiplayer story so that's pretty cool um at least they're addressing a lot of the bigger issues uh everybody if you could do me that
