WHAT SO MANY STREETS LOOK LIKE TONIGHT. LIFE IN EVANSTON, CHARLIE DE MAR, CBS NEWS CHICAGO. >>> A LOT OF BIG TREES DOWN AND A LOT OF CLOSE CALLS IT SOUNDS LIKE. PICKING UP TEAM COVERAGE FROM THE CITY, SABRINA FRONTAL WATCHED THE STORM FROM BEGINNING TO END NEAR THE WATERFRONT. SABRINA. >> Reporter: WE ARE HERE AT THEATER ON THE LAKE, WHICH IS WHERE MANY PEOPLE WERE SHELTERING IN PLACE UNTIL STORM WAS HAPPENING. ONE MINUTE, EVERYONE WAS SWIMMING IN THE LAKE. NEXT THING YOU KNOW, THEY ARE ON THE LAKEFRONT RUNNING WITH DEBRIS BLOWING IN THE AIR, LOOKING FOR COVER. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS TIME LAPSE, THIS MASSIVE SELF LOOKING CLOUD COVERS THE LAKE JUST NORTH OF FULLERTON WHERE WE ARE STANDING. THE CLOUDS MOVE QUICKLY AND START TO SWIRL. THEN WE RAN FOR COVER AS THE RAIN STARTED POURING DOWN. HERE'S ANOTHER ANGLE OF A CRAZY CLOUD THAT OUR CHIEF METEOROLOGIST ALBERT RAMON TELLS US IS A GUST-NADO. HE CALLED IT "WAY COOL." WE WOULD CALL IT "WAY SCARY." AS PEOPLE TRY TO LEAVE, SOME PEOPLE BASKET IN THE RAIN. OTHERS LEFT AS THEIR BELONGINGS WERE BLOWN AROUND. AFTER THE FIRST ROUND OF CRAZY RAIN, CHICAGO POLICE CAME BY TO MAKE SURE NO ONE ELSE WAS ON THE LAKEFRONT . JUST BEFORE THIS ALL HAPPENED, THIS WAS THE SCENE IN VERNON HILLS. SOME MINOR FLOODING AND DOWNED TREES, SOME ALMOST MISSING THE NEAREST HOUSE AS THEY FELL. NO DAMAGE HERE IN LINCOLN PARK TO REPORT TONIGHT BUT NOAA IS WARNING ABOUT A PHENOMENON WHERE LAKE WATER RISES RAPIDLY AND DISSENT RAPIDLY. WE ARE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THAT TONIGHT AS WELL. LIFE IN THE CAN PARK , CBS NEWS CHICAGO. >> THAT WAS WHILE THE VIDEO FOR SURE. WE CAN SEE THAT LIGHTNING BEHIND YOU. WE HAVE BEEN HEARING THE STORM HAS KNOCKED OUT POWER FOR PEOPLE FROM THE NORTH TO SOUTH SIDE AND NORTHWEST INDIANA AND AS WELL. MORE
