BREAKING: Bengals Claim DE KJ Henry Off Waivers From Commanders | Cincinnati Bengals News & Reaction

[Music] BOS fans what is going on Stone shields on hand for another edition of Bengals breakdown thank you so much for joining us here on a Wednesday got a little bit of breaking news obviously the waiver wire those claims are going down today and Cincinnati is active on the waiver wire they are going to claim defensive end KJ Henry from the Washington commanders played his collegiate ball at Clemson so really excited that the Bengals are adding to this defensive end room we've talked at length how really the whole defensive line room in its entirety has kind of been a little bit thin and certainly an area that the Bengals need to improve upon Duke Tobin and Cincinnati does just that by bringing in KJ Henry that's going to be the focus of our show today before we fully dive into that I TV so like I mentioned at the top of the show KJ Henry is the guy that the Bengals are going to be claiming off waivers from the Washington commanders again spend his college ball uh played his college ball at Clemson was a fifth round pick in 2023 and had a decent year with the commanders as a rookie last year had 19 tackles four tackles for a loss a sack and a half couple of pass breakups as well another note about Henry this guy's a national champion right he was on that 2018 Clemson team with t Higgins and the Bengals really like Clemson specifically on the defensive line which later on the show we'll get to a tweet from Paul der junor the Bengals love this school um they've always been open to bringing in guys from Clemson they think that you know dbos Sweeny kind of runs a good ship there there's a lot of professionals that come out of that program obviously Clemson's kind of the past couple years have fallen off but the Bengals ultimately really like that school so it really wasn't a surprise that they went back there to get a guy at the waiver wire in KJ Henry and again I'm really excited about this is a great kid all right that's something that dabos Sweeney really spoke at length about he played five years at Clemson so he has um you know lots of experience out there on the football field now the fact that you know he played five years could that be a red flag that you know oh he wasn't drafted a little bit earlier on sure but this isn't a guy that the Bengals are bringing in to be a star right he's just a piece that is supposed to come in bring some depth at that position and that's exactly what what they're going to do here with KJ Henry my biggest um kind of you know takeaway of this is that he is a professional I do know um you know I've heard KJ Henry speak at length and he's really just a good leader and a good person to have in your locker room when you're going to add someone this late you want to add a good dude right you don't want to just bring in some guy that's going to be like a cancer in the locker room or whatever you want to bring in a mature uh you know dude that can go in there and really uh just be a professional each and every day and KJ Henry is going to be able to do that for the Cincinnati Bengals really happy he'll be in that room with Trey Hendrickson and Sam hubber ell just is the PIN comment of Today's kind of what you're looking at at that defensive end position the two main guys Trey Hendrickson and Sam hubard are there but then miles Murphy goes on shortterm IR um yesterday so he's going to miss at least the four first four weeks of the Season you see that note there at the bottom cam sample is out for the season with that torn Achilles so it really was only a matter of time before they added to that room because yesterday they only had four guys that were healthy of course H hubber and Hendrickson six round pick Cedric Johnson and then Joseph osai entering the final year of his rookie deal so they needed another body in that room and then KJ Henry is going to be that guy for Cincinnati and we'll see what his role looks like going forward here um I think the Bengals you know have intentions on him sticking around and um you know we'll see if he gets thrust into a but again a very mature guy and I'm really excited that he's going to be coming to Cincinnati another little update for you guys the Bengals did not lose anybody in waivers nobody picked up any of the guys that they had waved so that means um all the guys that were waved yesterday are candidates to potentially be on the practice squad for for Cincinnati which is really a good thing I think um you know guys especially receivers like Cole Burgess and you know shedric Jackson perhaps those are guys that the Bengals wanted to have on their practice squad it's good nobody picks them up and um again we will have a video for you guys when the Bengals practice squad does get released not exactly sure when here's kind of the numbers that you got um that relative Athletic score from KJ Henry right he's a good solid athlete again it's nothing that really pops out at you it's nothing that does anything crazy for you but um he certainly has the you know the body and the skills of being a professional football player what his role is going to be we'll see how much you know that changes going forward for the Cincinnati Bengals but he's a guy that I personally have a lot of belief in and I think he has the ability to make an impact on uh this team he was really good friends with Trevor Lawrence and um Trevor Lawrence certainly is a great leader in his own right and I think we're going to see some of those leadership qualities come to Cincinnati in a guy like um KJ Henry and like I said really excited for that and I think he will have an impact at least to some degree at this point in 2024 for CCNA all right so the Bengals are bringing in KJ Henry so they can either of course wave somebody that was on the 53 man roster yesterday or perhaps play somebody on IR that could return later in the season so we'll see what exactly they do we will let you guys know via a short um when that news is broke but for right now a potential cut candidate for me is Jay TF I think he was a guy that a lot of people had on the outside looking in as far as the 53 man roster went bit of a surprise he made it so he could be a guy potentially on his way out but he does play more on the interior of that defensive line so that's a name to monitor like I said we'll have a short out for you guys when that information gets released uh before we get out of here I want to show you what Paul derer Jr of the athletic tweeted out he said Bengals make one claim adding Edge KJ Henry 25-year-old out of Clemson this is the noteworthy part Bengals love the Clemson defensive line pipeline former defensive line coach Nick een is there now and current Cincinnati defensive line coach Marian uh Marian hobby was there so we kind of talked about that at the top of the show Bengals really like going back to this program and it certainly worked out in a lot of situations particularly with t Higgins of course it didn't work out with Jackson Cara but we won't dive too far into that but the Bengals have a lot of confidence in that Clemson uh unit and again when you're adding someone this late all the other nonf football boxes need to be checked right need to be a professional need to be a m mature guy need to be a good teammate KJ Henry checks all those boxes for Cincinnati so we'll see what happens from a
