We break down the CanMNT's πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ INCREDIBLE win over the USMNT πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ | MATCH NIGHT

after a 2-1 victory at home over Cavalry welcome to a little program we like to call match night here on one soccer we have four of us here today one more this could be a decent five aside team uh wheeler Wilson Conway KJ with you I for one vote for Jimmy Brennan who was in studio ear I think he can play a little bit uh we'll be getting into Canada statement 2-1 victory over the United States uh a full breakdown is to come later on the program and best and worst as per usual but first let's start in the Canadian Premier League that was such an important three points for Forge they're up to 41 a four or five-point Gap that is over Atletico Ottawa who may be the only team that could chase them down at this juncture they do have a game in hand Calvary now stuck on 34 points a big one still to play I mentioned Atletico AWA they played Valor on Monday night and still to come a little bit later tonight after this very program it is Pacific and Halifax I'm calling it if you lose this game or no let let me adjust that if you don't win this game you're done you're toast you're not qualifying for a playoff spot so Forge courtesy of Tristan Borges his brace of course it's bores it's gorgeous he's now the top goal scorer in Forge uh Club history a 2-1 Victory I I just wonder is there any stopping Forge now or is really the regular season title their own I know some people are going to say one hand is on the trophy I think both are wow I think they're CPL Shield but with the math that's there the 41 points 22 games played with who they have to play left I think respectfully for me York and Athletico autta will probably be the the challenge the way that they play today um for me it's not even the strongest side as well they still have players that can come on and really impact the game with six games left I I give it to four that's a great goal by the way BTY banga toor just great finish John tremendous finish tremendous Touch by B banga and just Well Done by Forge they came out on the front foot and were aggressive in this first half couple chances here from Cavalry refriger I mean heit that well K makes a good save it was decent on the night actually K makes a save on the penalty as well and had a solid night for for Forge as as Forge have been flip-flopping back and forth penalty was given right here Bradley K didn't like it looked to be a penalty I thought you were spot on in commentary John just that arm was tucked in behind and make it two for Tristan bores KJ I'll ask you the same question is there any stop any any stopping Forge at this point no the the odds on favorites to to lift the shield it's been a big priority internally when you talk to the players they wanted that they've obviously been you know something that they believe that they can go and win trophies this is one they haven't been awarded before soft pen from then yeah I'm with you I would say when you look at it and with Jordan when you look at the numbers like they've got 41 points the two most difficult difficult games to come I believe still come at home um you can see here that just move a little bit early there um yeah they still got York and Athletico Ottawa to come at home I believe as their last two home games their home record is fantastic 12 wins now so like I think I think it's I think it's up to 12 anyway or 11 but so it's it looks very difficult for them to be stopped this they can still afford to lose two of their last six games and still win as well it might even be done by then K yeah what's crazy they they sell poku Hamilton's a bit role player Campbell's hurt they're not even playing with the number nine but they're finding different ways to win Kyle Becker is out of the team right now it's like this next man up mentality I mean other sides are dealing with their own issues I appreciate that but this forg team the way they're built the pedigree there and the fact that they're just programmed to win JN it just puts them in a class of their own yeah they are and they they continue to to do the things they need to do to win games especially tonight we talked about the front group but the back group was really good tonight matuso wasn't there he was a way on Duty B comes in and does a good job you know again in one V one situations he is very good if he's got to go chase the ball down he gets himself in good position physically to to fend guys off the only time he got himself in trouble tonight was a couple bad passes where he tried to slip balls into the Midfield into the middle of the field and created created some Havoc for him but he was very good parro was excellent I thought for the night he get forward in the second half dribble on the dribble penetrated a lot and was able to move the ball around for him so you know their back lines are good and they're getting good go what's the scariest thought KJ is if they do win the regular season I mean home games in the playoffs as well like all roads will run through Hamilton which their home form right now suggests that they will be a significant favorite yeah and look that wasn't the case last year right they had to go to Cal Calgary and beat Cavalry which they are able to do to get that home the the home game in the final so I'm with John like you could honestly sit here and first of all I think it's the deepest they've ever been the deepest have ever been in the history of the CPL but you could sit here you could go through on a nightly basis almost every position and go he impressed me you know you talk about you know o Abell jansson's played every minute Duncan's been absolutely fine when Rama's gone you know we talk about par one of the best left back her jaab PO I think we're going to talk a lot for Canada I think he could go on and play for Canada he's been that good this season for me the best six in the CPL Becka's arguably be their best player he's not played much the last two days bores has been brilliant you keep going on and on and on in fact Schwan's been excellent so yeah look they're they're an Unstoppable Force at the moment going to be very difficult for the CPL teams to stop them winning a double let's take a look at the form table dating back to the beginning of August in form are the inform side narrowly ahead of calvalry Atletico Ottawa and Valor making this late season push with a whole lot of home matches to come anything stick out to you there Jordan in terms of potentially chasing down Forge and even if that's beyond their reach for playoff positioning what may stand out to you I think there's two best teams in in the Canadian premier league and those two are the the two that have the best form and Forge and Calvary I think Athletico Ottawa making that last bit of a push maybe even getting that third place spot playing for for for second even um teams like Athletico Ottawa and York finding that third place uh the way that the CPL is set up in the playoffs it means a whole lot if you're really pushing for those wins so I think a team like that like Athletico Ottawa that started the season so well need to find another gear and this is the time to they need to be Flawless and beat forged basically that's their mission they have to because I think if you finish third you're feeling good about or second obviously you're feeling good about playing one game and then maybe hosting the final all right John I know that you are a disciple of Brian Wright for player of the year but Tristan Bor bores if he wasn't in the chat already he's re-entered the chat is Wright still your player of the year or does Bor just work himself into that Mi he's in the conversation but I still think Wright's still the player of the year I think you know for me bores has been so good for this Forge team for years U we just talked about it before we came on air I mean other than the one year where he wasn't here but he's been so good every time he's been on the field I think he needs to continue that through the rest of the year if he gets himself you know if he wins the Golden Boot you know my my my thing will change I think but I think Wright's been so good for he's on eight and six now what and n and six very close yeah and and what they mean to their team I think that you really notice Brian Wright's absence when he's not playing playing for York like that has to be part of the equation KJ yeah for sure but I think even when bores has not played you've missed him as well he's not played every game for Forge this season uh for me they're the best team and right now you can make a case he's been the best player on that team the difference for me is what B just how they fit him in today they played him on left left wing almost in a foot three where they played Cay as a 10 and they could play midfield three but most of the season they played him in almost as a number eight as a as a left side in a Midfield three where he's been able to get forward and I've said it before instinctively he hits a lot of goals on the One Touch finishing and that's when you know that he's back in confidence and form he's had a lot of injuries and for me he is the front runner right now but it is so tight um you know not only for player of the year but players player you could make a case we want have time today but we could sit here and come up with 15 candids that's how many good people at the top of the CPL list we've had I don't think if we all chose a name that we'd all pick the same one right now yeah maybe but but the last six seven games that's what really seals it right who steps up if it's a Brian wght coming back from injury and scoring three goals or Bor is maybe scoring three or four or Del Campo chipping in as well you're always going to remember that last [Β __Β ] and even as a as a as a player that last ditch that last seven games you really push yourself to see what you're made up we need to remember last year wasn't bores his best there was frustration there the olympico in the in the final kind of papered over some of the cracks but the best part about it he looks happy now he looks absolutely happy being back on the field and enjoying his football and that is great to see shout out to the Alberton Dan nimic AKA Dan Clump he's like Center back scoring goals in the Canadian premier league and by the way not from aen but it kind of came from aen which is very fitting as well uh last night in the Canadian Premier League we got the match week started York United coming away with a 1- victory at Vancouver the Eagles have landed or should I say have lost their wings because York United scored early and Vancouver at home with real no answers Nile Higgins I believe that's his first Canadian primier League goal as well Jordan an important one for York United to get back on track look you always know a goal scorer for the first time by their celebration and bless n Higgins just high-fiving everyone solidifying that it went in what a great ball by Guzman but for me this game started off with York really pushing for it but Vasco fry my brother the way that he flinches on the header as well when uh n Higgins goes up I miss the days of Defenders defending if you're three yards out John Conway that is elbows in the ribs of course it's still Fair we pushing someone out no one should get free headers in the Box listen the last few weeks set pieces have been so critical and again we saw it last night one goal early in the game decides it and and and really teams are spending a lot of time leading up to games preparing this and which they should do because it's a critical component of the games and I think one thing as we lead in the playoffs teams are going to really queue on that especially team teams that are struggling defensively yeah the timing of them as well a lot in early in halfs which me speaks the lack of concentration right when you're not either coming out halim or or the start of the games Vancouver had the chance to try to bury Valor and bury Halifax and Pacific and they haven't I know salou scored that goal in the 97th minute but they've not been good over the last few weeks the first half of the season the first 11 games they scored 14 goals they had an expected goal of 14 the last 11 their expected goal has gone in half they've just tanked offensively they can't score goals it's a struggle for them right now they're still the favorite they're in that spot that fifth spot that's what makes this format so great um but don't look great now but the other teams they're catching them up specifically Valor look out right in the rear view mirror and for York United you know get out of fourth place get in the top three potentially the road just stays in the province of Ontario which would be good news for York as well so plenty to be decided over the last five or six games of the Canadian Premier League season uh good stuff B around two more games to come this weekend later on tonight Pacific and Halifax in a must-win game and Ottawa and at Ballard Winnipeg Canada 2 the United States won their first win for Canada on United States soil since 1957 we're going to break it all down next right here on Match [Music] Night do we really have any choice at all everyone has a choice and every choice has a consequence which do you choose life's full of tough choices in it how do you choose [Music] [Music] power doesn't sound like it used to the all electric id4 with instant acceleration electric feels good Volkswagen [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] this ultimate mouthwatering moment is brought to you by the big bold ultimate Taste of Ultimate Chicken hot dogs only from Maple Lodge Farms [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] for sport played with our feet funny how lending a hand takes us further [Applause] together leader manager or orle that is Jesse Marsh on CBS gatco Gatos podcast predicted Canada 2 United States 1 it was played earlier today in Kansas City guess what it finished Marsh he just gets it right all the time Canada 2 United States 1 it was Jacob schleberger fourth kada goal this coming in the 17th minute of 1- nil Canada that's how the game started kennada on the front foot and it continued that way throughout the game quite frankly the score line was fantastic for Canada but actually flattered the United States to a certain degree Canada out shot the US 111 in the first half they had more tackles 31 to2 in this game fully committed throughout 19 more tackles than the United States in this game and Jonathan David with the match winner uh Kyle lren playing provider which is fitting because Len's on 29 goals now he has company alongside him Jonathan David is 20 9th Canada goal the ican scores in the 58th minute made it 2-n Canada uh they ended up conceding late on in the match Luca Del T to made things interesting looked to be an offside goal hands up yeah everyone thinks it's offside around me KJ KSA yeah it was very very close the kind of thing that I don't think you could really complain about either way of course not I didn't I certainly was not missing the five minute waiting to put lines on the pitch to find out that's all right I'm okay that uh and Canada go on to win this game 21 their first Victory on us soil in since 1957 you know it means something a little bit more to Marsh you know he's really proud of his group and he's falling more in love with Canada by the day that's according to his players but being able to beat the US in the way that they did today it's got to be a great feeling let's hear from the Ken a manager postmatch to hear what he had to say about his group and his commitment to this Canadian Men's National Team I'd rather coach our team 100% no questions asked I'd much rather coach Canada than the us right now right you can see the mentality that's been developed you can see the way this team plays you can see how much they love playing for the national team and they're willing to put their careers and lives and the way they play on the line to be the best they can can be for each other and for the team and that's all you can ask for as a coach specifically if you want to play the way that I want to play which is aggressive front foot going after the opponent trying to press them trying to play in their end also trying to be good on the ball and create option or opportunities and command the game with the ball but that game I felt like was in control and it was because of the qualities we have in the team the mentality we have in the team and what we're developing as a groups well done Jesse Marsh I mean these are still early days of his tenure with the Canadian Men's National Team then you're all of a sudden you're thinking Marsha prime minister like he's he's getting everything right seemingly including his predictions my biggest takeaway is just how impressive they were uh the alignment the commitment players on this canidate side you know they claimed that they felt like they were pushed around in some previous games against the US they were the aggressor they were the team on the front foot they were the better team by a mile in this one here today KJ start with you what's your biggest takeaway from today's 2-1 Victory um I think I'll go with the fact that the environment is allowing the non-star players I'll call them to continue to shine so bright because we all know and we can talk about Alonso Davis and how well he defends at left back and how well Jonathan David plays and aako is brilliant again but you know for me you know bomito continues to step forward schier was excellent schafberg scored the goal Ali Ahmed was tremendous so it goes without saying for me that it is an environment of success from the start of the camp to the end and that's what they're coming into is that the the demands are very high the training sessions are very intense you have to survive or you going to drown and so when they come in these players are not coming in from the excessive Club form and thinking that they can get away with it while being a little bit leisurely they've got to step up to their level and that environment it's amazing when you give talented people in any format a positive environment where they feel valued and feel that they can contribute and that's now what we're seeing here where those players are stepping up and suddenly it's becoming we're not just talking about davies's team or David's team it's no matter like we said about Forge earlier it's 1 to 11 you could talk about every single player and how well they're playing and every one of them was at eight out of 10 and above you're so right it's not one or two guys it's the team as a collective uh John what about you your main takeway you to kind of piggy back on the KJ I think the thing for me is the buyin right they they went through Copo America and we're feeling each other out coach and team and since that point every day it's gotten better and better and now they have Jesse has complete buyin from these guys buying and how he wants to play buying and the physical demands that are going to be you know required of that buy as a group and a collective moving forward and being successful and I think that's my biggest takeaway in this game especially such a big game I think for Jesse because it's against the US and he got buying from his guys to go out and put in performance that he was proud of at the end of the day and by the way it's not easy to play that way at the level the intensity the running the pressure the aggressiveness John no it's not but he but Jesse does have the luxury to have players that are capable of doing that you know you look at Jacob schafberg you know you I'll go back I'll restart here you can't teach speed yeah they got a lot of it and they got a lot of speed and that and that's a luxury that he has speed kills in these situations because it creates an opportunity to just make the other team uncomfortable all the time and you saw that today suit sty they were uncomfortable massively uncomfortable and they never seemed to get a grip the United States on the way that Canada was interesting uh we'll get more into that in a moment Jordan I want to come to you your biggest takeaway quickly just the physical demands to play that way like obviously not at the Canadian level the international level but any coach that has coached me and you have to go it's not a jog it's a Sprint 85th minute I'm watching Ali Ahmed players that are committed like this is a part of the DNA but this is Maria's ninth match and everyone has just put it aside it's like they've been waiting for a challenge like this and they've all grabbed it with two hands EX accepting that they're going to suffer a little bit but you get moments like this where you beat the US 2-1 should have been more but you feel dominant that they dominated that match and went about things the right way so it's looking up for for a man who come in and I had my my skepticism which was healthy skepticism but the buying from these players and the way that they're willing to suffer to win I think that says it all it just seems like it's repeatable like you know just understanding that cop America was really good that it's not just a blip that it was able to be repeated today and who knows for how much longer that's all part and parcel of this identity that Jesse Marsh is creating or reestablishing with this Canadian Men's National Team his style of play and how he prefers to play KJ is quite clear what Marsh wants to do but executing it is a completely other story what sort of identity have you seen them established and you're going to break down a little bit about how they press and and what it's all about yeah you talked about in commentary we're all watching and all we showed some of it at halim as well let's get to some of the clips and just kind of show you and some of the people in home the audience that what we're kind of seeing from this you know you know right this is like the second minute of the game right you know this is like the the the the buying and the Press collectively right away you can see this for example we'll pause it there this is Tim remu they clearly highlighted I showed this at Hal time before the gap between the center backs is you've got a trouble there because where re's out re might want to come to the left back we already got the body positioning of David which is stopping and pass that ball into Midfield and then you've also got Ali ammed who I thought did a TR tremendous work off The Possession to to stop this pass in the left back so you play it through and re's in trouble he's cooked two minutes into the game so back pass right away to Robinson they have to go back to the goalie and then suddenly you know you rep it again they're swarming at this point this is a collective press we saw some of this a little bit in cup America but they were individual a lot but when you've got back pressing as well and there's two of them going in at that point and suddenly you've got a four pressing at the front we'll play it through you can just see there's many clips that we've got examples of that you know this is not just about winning control role of the game and making sure that you play the game in the opposition's half these are significant moments that are leading to defining moments in the match you know again you can see here the ball is played out look at how aggressive Canada are play it through and you can just see what happens you know we all remember this play now is what what what happens in terms of look at Jonathan David's back pressure there and then watch him as he goes off Jonathan David's going to be the one who finishes the ball he started that by sprinting halfway back to his own half in the first five minutes of the match it's a great save and this is the goal now John goalies get set up in this position because you want to make that extra man that's why that goalie is out there correct correct yes he he wants to make that extra man but effectively the US don't have any chance to do that because of the hunt right away with the four and Jordan we can see this is the buildup to what happens with the goal as we play through and all these clips KJ you're saying if one Canadian player is not bought in in the right spot the US get out and you have to run 70 yards to go and get the ball back everyone's ready to hunt everyone's head down everyone's ready to go and and get the second ball and they're baiting their Americans look at that look at the numbers four or five players around then you have Jacob sherberg gets it on a sweet left foot but players are willing and ready to hunt Wheels they're not sitting back and hoping that there's a mistake they're baiting their Americans to play a certain pass and when they do they pounce on it yeah and I want pause it right there as well and this is for me another clip I didn't want to just show the first 20 minutes because you you alluded to all of you the physical demands to do this the entire game players coming off International window just starting a new season the majority of them playing European clubs this is the second half where the US tried to change it the US tried to flip the ball go out to pul atick a lot more than the second half look at this again the hunt that is on right away from Canada again led by David and Len I thought they were excellent just play it through you can see I don't need to draw too much about this but how difficult it is sha and then you can see a stako just coming in behind again and that's where it comes from and swarming them as a group no wonder Cornelius gives him you know a round of applause it's just fantastic to watch you know for me guys I think this do start with that front group I know you point out the guys and they stepping in their ability to work this starts because we have two center backs that that are kicking move and are comfortable in One V one that means they can go manto man that allows those front groups to be overly aggressive because they know they have the cover behind with the two center backs able to deal with anything that's kind of flipped out and I think that gives this team the luxury of being so aggressive up front with that group and you saw it today they just swarmed the the US team and like I watched that first half I'm going how does the US not understand that this is going to happen today like it's a Jesse Marsh coach team you know he's been around the program he's been around MLS they're going to get pressed and they look like they weren't prepared for the intensity or the fact that it was going to happen and and the moments that the US the rare moments they threaten him behind it's not just bumo who was outstanding today cornelus Davey's work rate and commitment to defend now it it's not noticeable and at that pace and whether it's John laa like there's balance and it looks good no wonder why Jesse M wants to work with these players because it works well for the way that he wants to play and this is why you and I think I were maybe a little bit skeptical of what this would look like it's because typically we don't see the style of playing International Football KJ like it's often times a lot slower a lot more safe but there's nothing safe or slow about this it's quite the opposite and and and that's why you just want like as the game get bigger and this is a friendly here today it mattered okay Kennedy us Marsh us us coming off Copa America which was so poor and the fact that they've now lost three games in a row it mattered today did but they had no answer like at all I just wonder how repeatable you think that this is playing this way think I think again we saw it in the Dutch game and then we saw them get torn apart in the second half and we saw adjustments they didn't play that way against the French we saw it in periods of co-pro America but they knew today what kind of wounded animal was on the opposite side right this the US team are missing we we're not going to go through them significant numbers you know Robson mcken Robinson mckenny Raina so many of them right Adams Big Time Players the team the media are killing them they're killing that team right now they got a a horrendous copper America they they haven't got the manager over the line yet they're hosting a World Cup in their own you know stadium and they believe they can make it to the final and win it that's what they think and they can go on look whether that's an expectation what we think is another thing but my point being is that they've got high expectations for them in the world cup that they feel like they can go on and and perform and so they knew Canada going in we we can take advantage of this team right now so it's about picking and choosing your moments to do it um but it was also important for the momentum to come out of cop America of what Canada had if the US had found a way to beat Canada today I think we would have been looking at as going what a missed opportunity I said it before if not now when if not now when right we got Nations League finals coming up copr Amica Gold Cup next summer you know this is the time to start to believe that you can beat this team and go on and I just thought there'd be a response and I'm been instructed by a producer to play a little bit of a devil's advocate here like should we reain in the excitement at all when it comes to Canada based upon how poor the United States were because they were really bad today they seemed aimless without Direction the building on the back was a trophy I have no idea why you play such a young team than a 36-year-old Center back in Tim ree I found myself scratching my head throughout this game and I'm looking at the Players I'm like how does all this fit there's some really good players in this American team by the way but I don't know are are you reigning in your excitement based on the US performance I'm excited that they won obviously this wasn't the the strongest us side however I just look at the football that was played and how the match went and from the first minute we highlighted it KJ highlighted it perfectly two minutes in your pressing guess what happened in the 92nd minute as well who was running the most who had the most tackles who were committed who Subs came on to the pitch and affected the game in a positive way like and all those answers all those questions that I'm saying the answer is the Canadian player the Canadian team so I think that's something to celebrate yes if they go against a a tougher American team that has all their big dogs will it be a different game for sure but will can of feel good going into that game playing the same way they did today absolutely so I I think it's bigger with Maria's ninth match and kind of growing exponentially each time they play I think that's the bigger win I'm not going to get caught up in who you're playing and what you're playing cuz if you could play your best football then you can compete with anyone John 20 seconds final word celebrate it celebrate it it's a big win away from home haven't done it in since 1957 celebrate the wi shout it from the rooftops we need more positivity we need more people talking about our team as much as the United States are getting battered in their media right now I look at that and I'm envious that's what I want Canada I want people to talk about the sport in this country as much as they do in that great country and is a great country the United States you know they're difficult times right now for that program they'll bounce back but at least they care and at least lots of people are talking about them so let's do the same positive now for Canada hope for us bar continues to raise a lot of bter about Canada at cop America versus the US South of the Border like thumbnail that bookmark that game here today a reminder how good this cidate team is the work that needs to be done with the US quick turn around Tuesday Arling Texas Canada Mexico right here on one soccer we'll continue to break down the individual performances next t on Match Night hey let's go somewhere Bei I don't like sand what what about Cancun sand so soft or maybe Caribbean white sand o Costa Rican sand it's got dolphins Costa Rica then yeah Costa Rica good choice it was all him with over 50 Sunny destinations to choose from we have a flight for that [Music] power doesn't sound like it used to the all electric id4 with instant acceleration electric feels good [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Volkswagen Tony Tony bet get treated like a VIP bet on live games with odds on all sorts of sports that's what you get when you bet with [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to match night now some call him the maritime Messi I'm just not having it more like the Mari time mbappe because he plays more like Kelling mbappe than Le that's I'm just talking about the speed the pace the St your problem side that side is there that's where you're going with no Messi mbapp he doesn't play like Messi that's your issue with the nickname I'm very particular about my nickname's K oh we know I've I've worked with you for two decades I'm very you're welcome and you're a better man for it uh let's talk some individual performances including the goal scorer Jacob schafberg um for Nashville he doesn't always produce but as the game gets bigger and the lights get brighter he continues to shine and he looks like he has at least a leg up on the competition for that starting rule for Jesse Marsh tons of confidence right now with the national team started off as a Super Sub has come on and started a bunch of games now and has produced in those games he started you know just a guy again with his Pace with his directness causes teams problems and he's just been so good for this national team I think Jesse's given him as I said the confidence to go out there and be aggressive to take people on to run and and fight and and you see it today he's in a good spot and a good finish and starts the game off and gets us the one lead that that they're able to ride to the end of the game yeah uh pretty amazing what he continues to do for the Canadian Men's National Team want to give a sh shout out to Jonathan David here I'm kind of going off script a little bit cuz now he has 45 goal contributions for Canada with the goal and assist today in 55 games like continues to be underappreciated for my money within our country and outside as well let's talk about some of the other performances I want to talk about the newcomers or the new players in the starting 11 today in mat schaner I don't think I've ever seen him run so much in my life him playing alongside Stephan ustaky with no Isel today he was Sensational in Ali ahed playing on the right side picking up where he left off against Uruguay at the Copa America I mean just adding to this group KJ like both of these players came in and made a big time impression replacing you know Buchan and K like they fully took advantage of their opportunity yeah they did they were excellent and uh you know you can see for me that schan knew that that was his shirt and he knew that he was very comfortable playing in it you know this is a player that has made that move to Europe and has backed himself and then now knows that stefanio and Ismael K are going to be playing in that midfield for a long time you're not going to get that many chances if you're going to play in a Midfield to with those two playing there you got to take them um I thought that he was very good in possession but I thought without the ball again both in him and Ali Ahmed were Sensational the positioning was was great very very calm they felt like they belonged and again it just keeps coming back to environment for me it's the same with shaffle B okay Nashville's struggling at the moment it's not a positive environment we all know in sports the things flipping back and forth you come in here and you get a coach who just talks to you about what you do well and allows you to go out there and do what you do well doesn't play you in a different position shaffle B's told me in the past like he's he never felt comfortable playing left back just generally doesn't think he's a very good left back schan yes kind of felt like I like being an eight not a six wasn't suddenly playing as a double pivot but a driving midfielder aliam could get forward on the wing they're all being they're all flourishing because they're all being backed by a leader who says this is your value and we can put you out there and do it Jordan I I want to hear your taking a moment's time but first let's hear from Jesse Marsh as postmatch raved about the performances when it came to shwani Aon AED and so I said to him look it's not like you're a different player but you're a lot more mature player you're a lot more Dynamic player and you're being rewarded for it in All Phases of the game and so I I was sure because of the way he train this week I was sure he was going to have an outstanding game um and he delivered he was very good and the other one I would say is Matthew uh schier Scher was very good all over the place good on the ball covering ground winning Duss really outstanding both of those guys I thought were were outstanding some big compliments on the play of ahed then shanier yeah shanier and we need to mention it as well as a central midfielder it is easy to do this 5 yard run and go and press someone what is not easy to do what requires someone that is bought in is when the ball goes this way and you got to run with the same mentality to go un cover to double press to back press to run those 15 20 yards consistently all the time knowing that the ball might end up there but it might not but you still need to be in that spot he was there every single time it's not easy as well you have someone yakio who does that time and time again for Canada but he had to go and partner with him and do that same work but he did it there was no complaining you could see him as well in the 85th minute Shan year tired blowing but he was still going in and working and for me with that mentality accompanied with his natural god-given ability in the way that he likes to play football and go forward I mean he's he's definitely a shoan to to be a part of this program and playing whether it's starting some games but definitely coming off the bench I I know the players that the US were missing but cardoso Tillman Musa these are good players in the Midfield and yakio and shanier were just on another level uh we mentioned Ellie Ahmed funny looking back to to 2023 when kenned a lost to the US in the Gold Cup in penalties Ahmed was playing that day he was playing in the central midfield for most of that time alongside Moyes bomo both these players were very raw to the program at that time and were getting their first taste of what it meant to play for the Canadian Men's National Team now both are playing in their preferred position and Moyes bomito bomb bom bomb this guy today I mean his recovery runs his ability to get stuck into challenges he was everywhere playing on the right and the left side I just thought he was even better than what he showed at cop America and I thought he was great there he was outstanding today he composed 1 V one first he has pace of course but I said it after the postgame he doesn't rely on his Pace he's actually reading the game and getting himself in the right position yes he has the size the height the pace the strength to to beat players 1 V one and you can see it there but to always be ready and anticipate and be in the right spot John you know as a keeper when you have a center back that does that consistently it just brings confidence to the rest of the team it's such a luxury to have a guy on in the team like this pace the ability to defend in One V one situations man man for man he's not scared of it he he enjoys it and he does a great job it allows the rest of the group to to move forward and be aggressive in their pressing and he's able to just ride guys off and you know his positioning is great his ability to defend one W is great he's this guy's a limit for him at this point I mean obviously a big move and now he's doing this with the national team and it's just it's the confidence that you know again that the manager gives him KJ bagan's just down the road in Monaco it's like now I need to deal with that guy like bagan's a really good player and bomo never gave him a sniff today no he didn't I talked earlier about things with his mindset and what a great chot I had with him this week and you can watch our postgame show for that so I I'll find a different I'll just say you know we're all blessed to cover this team right and we've been covering this team in this sport for a long time you know the real common denominator about the success for Canada over the last five years um and in is five years back to John herbman and now Jesse Marsh is that these coaches have given these players opportunities and in many eyes they've come from nowhere but no one thinks about them now we don't think of aliser Johnson coming from nowhere but he did he came from League one he was given an opportunity okay now we got to put him in environment to flourish and then he goes tjon Buchanan was picked for the Olympic team before he's playing in World Cup qualifiers and now everyone thinks and the consistent isil con wasn't given opportunities suddenly then plays against France gets a move what in now is at Mars we can go on and on and on they're developing in front of our eyes but the national team is playing an enormous part in that and Jesse Marsh you know he going to have a lot of people give him a lot of plaudits maybe his greatest thing that he's done so far personnel-wise is going bombito and Cornelius from the start against the French against the Dutch it doesn't matter against Messi I'm playing them and they got plucked and they got plucked by big teams now and they're going to play Big minutes and they're going to make mistakes and they're going to be brave and they're going to learn from those mistakes and they're going to keep going and that is a credit to him that he went with them at that moment after what was a tenure where was very different with Victoria and Miller and others yeah uh osai arria both coming out of nowhere playing Off the Bench here today a bombo special D bomb how's that for a nickname D bomb you like that KJ I like that do get the KJ stamp of approval St wow on to something I like your nicknames you know this most of the time wheels up this is been oada o baby presented by CIBC uh one nation every Tuesday with trills and wills the show is brills with plenty of skills more nicknames right here on one soccer best and worst no nicknames I Pro well I can't promise it's coming up next Canadian soccer fans we're different we cheer on the Reds while cheering out our mother lands and each other's lands soccer is in our hearts Our Roots are on display not to divide but to unite because to US soccer is more than just a game it's who we are from coast to coast to coast it connects us all cheers to us cheers to the game [Music] this ultimate Sprint with motion sense tested to the Limit degree keeps working when others stop [Music] it's mat time the boys are in the locker room which means one thing ready for their five aside game obviously best or worst time to come in around here as well with you boys of course uh some notable uh results across International Football this past week San Marino have ended a streak of 140 games without a win their first time they've won since 2004 uh KJ you've been to San Marino before they beat litchenstein I'll defer to the expert San Marino Grand Prix I've been to which is in Italy I technically may have crossed the San Marino border I love this and actually the last team they beat was also lonstein 20 years ago apparently um but San Marino will always be remembered for as from England as scoring that one goal after 7 Seconds when England needed to beat them by seven goals to qualify for the 1994 World Cup and they conceded after 7 Seconds to S Marino yeah not to be confused with Dan Marino also nobody nobody was confusing I'm pretty sure nobody was see you I uh some other notable results uh Asian qualifying is is like wild right now Palestine coming away with a draw in South Korea Indonesia draws Saudi Arabia away and Bahrain beats the Aussies in Australia as well big some some some big results so uh we'll keep our eye over the course of qualifying is Canada well we're in Friendly mode as for now uh let's get to Steve McLaren the oh sorry quazy poku oh got get to this quazy poku uh made the move to Belgium was playing in the Belgian cup and he scored his first goal I'm not sure if this qualify best wor by which the play out you call this best or worst uh best best clearance seen because the the it hits the left foot first then the right foot does a swipe then the fall as well KJ and John even wor what a finish po look at this what a slide though look at this that's six guinnesses for me for sure you cannot convince me otherwise Timber but crazy poku picking up where he left off in the Canadian Premier League putting that ball in the back of the fell down like he knew it go he's like uh oh here it comes um incredible stuff almost as good as Steve McLaren the new Jamaican head coach I try to pick up a little bit of pwa let's let's have a listen to this oh this would be all right coach our first trading session I see you very red in the face I was yeah yeah yeah yeah look in the eye yeah greetings alings alings really jul active big up big up big up big up you said something else this morning fully active no you said something else you sure said swipe or he h concentrated what did you say stealing up is he's a lonely guy honestly if you haven't followed his career like that's why teams of like down around uh wonderful story there and best of luck in Jamaica the P needs some work he needs a bit of work but you know what they're going to give him an honorary pass because he's there Jamaicans is all about your soul you say seal it root Jama it's all it's all about that right there he has seal it up yeah I I love it what a guy uh Liam Miller is up vote for him for whole city player of the month had a big assist against Plymouth hit the ground running for whole city in the championship get my vote watch I can't remember it right now but they also have a really good cool chant about the Canadian boy Liam Miller the whole city really yeah did they they they've embraced them right away going to miss him at Preston I was talking about them in to Preston about him the some fans were pretty unhappy that they left him but Hull has a a huge budget North End like bottom five budget in that in that league so yeah so a good start for him uh congratulations to Ryan gold back in the Scotland picture came on as a second half substitute uh cap tying himself for Canada some had a pipe dream that someday somehow Ryan gold would play for Canada uh that's done for now and uh Scotland lost the game by the way yeah Heartbreaker to Poland but great to see him I was out in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago talked to him about it you could just see his face was glowing he's just so happy way overdue let's be honest and he deserved it he um I spent my morning this morning watching uh it was a charity match Legends Manchester United and Celtic have you seen my guy Wayne Rooney waza 38 years young he is a huge man look at that cool look at that finish look at him this is vintage Rooney he said he did a match an interview during the match and said I feel good with the ball at my feet it's moving that's the problem it's running he is a ginormous he is 38 years young he is two years younger than Cristiano Ronaldo by the way who scored his 900th goal John Conway Mi by the way needs a milk mix in a protein shap something because he is class is Perman listen kick free kick still there brilliant yeah would you buy it like if you said this guy 10 years ago one of the best players in the world like and I mean it was almost like the goal he scored against Stoke when he got the record remember that free kick almost the same run up and everything and like what was his first game against like galatas in the Champions League hit one that was very very similar as well congratulations I love Rooney was actually born on the same day as my wife at that built that connection like oh you're burn porno the same day as waza you're my it's the only way you could connect to Rooney e that's my one way I I was yelling about beo field one wait wait over no what a guy um Canada the the women's under 20s have qualified for the uh last 16 of the World Cup in columia for the first time since 2014 on it was held by an 11- nil Victory France over BG so it Dro kada down to third place in the group but they make it as one of the four best
