Transcript of Twin Cities busy cleaning up after destructive overnight storm

>>> THANK YOU FOR JOINING US, I AM DEREK JAMES. WE'RE LOOKING AT FIRST LOOK CAUSED BY SEVERE WEATHER OVERNIGHT. VIEWER SUBMITTED PICTURES SHOW SOFTBALL SIZED HAIL FROM THE SEVERE STORMS THE WORLD THROUGH. HEAVY WIND TOPPLING TREES AS WELL. YOU CAN SEE THE WIND WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO ALMOST COMPLETELY UPROOTED. POWER OUTAGES IN MINNESOTA AND WESTERN WISCONSIN ARE STILL AT A STAGGERING NUMBER. ACCORDING TO XCEL ENERGY'S MAP, THE NUMBER WAS OVER 180 ACROSS MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN. >> Reporter: AS YOU JUST MENTIONED, THIS IS SOME OF THE MOST EXTREME EXAMPLES OF THE STORM DAMAGE HERE IN ST. LOUIS PARK, ANYTHING LESS THAN THAT IS STILL A HASSLE TO DEAL WITH. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT LARGE CHUNKS OF TREES THAT SNAPPED OFF WHEN THE STORM BLEW THROUGH THIS AREA AROUND 1:00 IN THE MORNING LITTERING MINNETONKA BOULEVARD, TEXAS AVENUE WITH TONS OF STORM DEBRIS. NEIGHBORS ARE TELLING ME THIS IS SOME OF THE WORST STORM DAMAGE THEY HAVE SEEN IN THIS AREA IN DECADES. CLEANUP WILL BE GOING ON FOR SEVERAL MORE DAYS. CREWS WERE BUSY SUNDAY MORNING CLEANING UP THE AFTERMATH ON THE STORM THE NIGHT BEFORE. MANY HOMEOWNERS WAKING UP TO MESSY YARDS OF BROKEN BRANCHES, SOME WOKE UP JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT TO LOUD CRASHES. >> IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMEBODY IS TRYING TO KICK IN MY DOOR, I HAD MY BUDDY COME OVER TODAY WITH HIS TRUCK , WE DRUG IT OUT OF THE ROAD JUST SO PEOPLE COULD GET BY. >> Reporter: THE HOUSE ACROSS FROM HIM ALSO HAD A LARGE TREE BRANCH BREAKOFF. THIS DAMAGE LEAVING MANY IN THE AREA WITHOUT POWER FOR HOURS. >> IT TOOK A WHILE FOR THEM TO GET THE POWER BACK. >> Reporter: SOME NEIGHBORS NOT SURE WHEN IT IS GOING TO BE RESTORED . WHILE THIS CLEANUP IS NOT IDEAL, MANY NEIGHBORS ARE THANKFUL THE TREES AND BRANCHES LANDED WHERE THEY DID. >> JUST THANKFUL THAT REALLY IF YOU NOTICED, NO HOUSES WERE HIT. THE WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD WITHIN THE LAST TWO MONTHS HAVE JUST GOTTEN ALL NEW ROOFS PUT ON FROM LAST YEAR, EVERYBODY WAS REALLY THANKFUL, THEY WERE THANKFUL THEY DIDN'T TEAR OFF THEIR ROOFS. >> CERTAINLY A GOOD PERSPECTIVE TO HAVE. >> Reporter: POWER OUTAGES HAVE IMPACTED THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN THIS AREA, A LOT OF THESE ARTERIES ARE PRETTY BUSY, THE INTERSECTIONS THAT NORMALLY HAVE LIGHTS ARE NOW BEING TREATED LIKE FOUR-WAY STOPS. IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE DRIVING THROUGH THE ST. LOUIS PARK AREA TODAY AND MAYBE TOMORROW AS WELL , EXPECT SOME DELAYS A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE THOSE BUSY INTERSECTIONS
