what have we just witnessed it's Raj in my sweet home Chicago where I've come to watch the Lord and Savior Caleb Williams make his debut in a journey which can only lead to Super Bowl Glory I've never felt more optimistic about anything I am ready to have my heart broken um and we just witnessed on a sweltering September Day in Kansas City United States against Canada led by that Canadian little finger Jesse Marsh a gent who's honestly become more and more Canadian with every single um day that he takes the field it's like watching Kevin Costner a little bit in dances with walls the game ended 2-1 to our Tim Horton drinking Neighbors in the north their first win on us soil since 1957 which is also coincidentally the same year that Tim Reed was born a game which means everything and nothing a game which had a little bit of everything apart from Maro poino that is we will break it all down where aent who's played against Canada jent's won the United States arm band and also played for Jesse Marsh in a special live version of the captain Oh made possible by our good friends at all state who make so much in football in this nation um sing live from London England oh it's my friend it's Mr Tyler Adams hey Raj how we doing um I could be better Tyler I am not going to lie um and we will talk about the game in one second but up top I've got to ask you I love you I love working with you I don't ask too much from you every year I say to you Tyler make sure Bournemouth go easy on Everton what what happened in that last three minutes first time I did on last because I still don't quite understand what I witnessed yeah you're telling me uh last year when we when we head up to gison Park um we lost 41 and it was the best performance from Everton all season this year in the first half I thought wow we're going to have the same game again um but yeah in the the 85th minute onwards we seem to to come alive so um I'm happy to take all three points from you yeah the fact that two of the goal scorers for your Las Vegas golden War cherries um scored of headers and I think they're like 5'8 and 5'9 Lewis cook and sinera was just possibly the most Evon thing that ever everon unbelievable unbelievable Lewis cook never scores any goals I was so excited for him we talk about it all the time we're like you're going to get one you're G to get one uh and he got one I was so happy for him I know that when Everton concede and the goal scorer runs away patting his head um it genuinely it feels like we we the goal counted double um this is how today is going to work though dear gfop PS on this do it live it's a show in which you listeners are a massive part of the proceedings Tyler and I are going to talk about the game uh then you can ask me questions about football or life just scan the QR code code on the top left of your screen um it'll take you into a zoom with our producer Tony Tony Tony who will get you set to ask your question come and be with us beautiful blo a referee and my hair hero Mike Dean yes C hero Dino joining me and Brighton's young Prodigy manager Fabian Herz amongst our guests um come and be with us but I want to start by raising my third first Michel oal of the day to Alex Morgan um the great who announced their retirement out of the blue Thursday one more game Sunday night and then she is gone leaving as a Peerless icon of the global game the face of American soccer Glory over the past decade she utiliz that left foot to Smite all cers on the road to Two World Cup wins an Olympic gold um and crossed over to become a a a household name a popular culture bright light in the process while also becoming a partner a mother a thriving entrepreneur talks about leaving the game to start investing uh in women's sports cannot wait to see this next ACT but for us for many of us She'll always be forever etched scoring the winner against England in 2019 in Leon throwing a head back in a moment of Glory sipping all that tea telling Piers Morgan to sod off in the process um God we wish a strength and joy Tyler for United States soccer um it's quite a moment quite a moment of transition it's some loss yeah no absolutely she's an icon of the game um I think the the biggest thing for me you know watching her growing up and watching the World Cups and obviously all the accomplishments she she achieved she's leaving the game in such a better place for for the players to come the young girls and women to come and um you know when you look at the team now it's she's left it to some some good hands so um we're moving forward and uh yeah I wish I see much transition into the future God it is an amazing I mean there is something about her her leaving in this moment you never get to choose when you leave or few get to choose when they leave um you know to leave uh with the team winning that gold of outer to some degree is a cruel uh finish um there's so many lessons of life in this moment but God tomorrow on like 87 channels broadcasting the San Diego wave game live it is some fitting send off I am so grateful for all of those memories and to this afternoon's game um a curious experience experience to be honest um be sparse crowd in Kansas City a clash which was intended when scheduled to be bur halter versus Marsh the conquer CF version of of chestnut versus kobba Yoshi unfinished beef um but Bal has gone poch watch overshadows everything we'll discuss him in a moment but the game itself under the US interim manager Mikey varas you know him Tyler was an assistant under Greg what's it like for the player in this moment of uncertainty uh transition um you lived it when you came into this squad interim coach Dave sakan um was coach for an entire year 20178 what does it feel like for them um in this moment of pause I think in in in those times you really just have to support one another um there's so much uncertainty in the air at the time you know for me when I came in obviously under Dave sarkin I looked at it as an opportunity every day how could I prove myself how could I establish myself how when the next coach comes in can I already be a name that's that's penil in on the team sheet and I think today you saw a lot of players that hadn't had a big opportunity get an opportunity so um it's another chance and what better game for it than to play against you know a rival in Canada and some rival some sharpened threat um as we'll discuss and the United States they were not just without a manager they were about so many key players not just yourself Weston mckin Anthony Robinson given chance to re-energize gain Fitness cover Tim weer injured um then on Thursday the awful news broke that Gio Raina honestly I was so excited in this window to see goo given a chance to S again minutes have been hard for him with his Club the US has honestly become a happy place um to go down with another injury so bloody cruel what message you have for Gio and and to American fans about Gio still just 21 years old he's been through so bloody much yeah I already texted Gio me and him are are from the same area we've known each other for such a long time we support one another through everything and you know I'm going through a similar time like him and you know he's had already gone through a little bit of that and it's hard when you're when it's stop start no consistency in your game but you know one thing everyone sees in Gio is a really really bright Talent um there's so much potential to his game and so much St for him to achieve but like you said he's 21 so you know when people talk about the injuries and and not him not playing consistently everyone goes through that phase at some point in their career and to do it at 21 is the better than to do it in 25 26 27 28 so um his time will come I'm sure of it uh he's been such an important player for our team and he's only going to continue to grow into that Mickey veras he could have shaken up that team um but he went pretty much with the expected starters and fill-ins one interesting choice uh he gave Patrick Timothy schy all three names from the Columbus Crew the nod to starting goal over Matt Turner and Ethan Horvath based he said quote on form in training huge chance first cap for him outside of January Camp a message Club minutes a key um can I ask you about this Canadian team you mentioned already a rival with the words you used this is Jesse Marsh's ninth game um the game in the wake of Canada is quite impressive cooper run into the semifinal you know the us we we all remember what their trajectory was in this time um by the way Jesse has made it very clear he enjoyed both you know the the the Canadian performance and the US performance in equal measure where does where's it now rank USA Canada as a rivalry from the US perspective ranking this that I I don't rank anything I don't really care game game is a game of course they're they're getting better and they're improving and um we need to continue to get better and improve as well um like like you already said we're in a transition period and and for a lot of players um continuing to try to find their form find Fitness Etc um I think we're going to come into to ourselves in in the next year or so um when we start to gain some more consistency within the team obviously have a head coach that that tells us how he wants us to play you know and and puts a little bit of structure into our team but um yeah I mean Canada's getting better they had a great cop America full of confidence right now a lot of players playing at good clubs playing in Europe getting better so yeah it's it's it's a good game it will always be a good game can I you know Jesse Marsh well you played for him um in MLS you played for him in the Premier League at leads um you know he was he's almost embracing this this hail turn ahead of the game he told us he'd sing just the Canadian national anthem I do believe before he knows it he'll be drinking mson beer as his beer of choice he' be listening to the tragic tragically hip calling his beanie a toque um he told me being with Canada has quote restored his love of football again um I mean he does love you know him he loves a he loves to put a bit of vinegar in the wound a bit of rub a bit of the salt in what's it like being seeing him almost turn more Canadian than Seline Dion before our eyes I love it as well I love it as well I can't wait to play against him that's all I'll say that's all I [Laughter] say he I me that is his personality though he does he does like to piss in the punch Jesse yeah I I love it it's it's great it's great until till we come against the other do you know what I mean so um it is what it it is what it is for now we we haven't we haven't played against uh or he hasn't coached against me I haven't played against one of his teams yet which is gonna be a bit strange when when it does happen but um I'm looking forward to the opportunity got that first 5050 ball on the sideline between you and Jesse Mar is just going to be oh he'll go for it too will we had those in training he used to train he used to train with us in New York so we had those couple of those I think I W asked you who wins those 5050 balls and I think I once asked him and you had very different answers there's a little bit of that same mad bastard mentality there and I love it and i' got to say Canada reflected that Jesse's talked a lot about this Canadian team started to take on a bit of his um his slightly crazy like a fox mentality and they started cohesively pressing passing schy called into action early big Parry from Jonathan David who's just freed over the top yakio also whipped a warning shot given plenty of time to line one up um in those early exchanges what did you see and what did you not see from the United States in that in the buildup play yeah I I think that uh you know Jesse is good at giving you know motivational speeches and and getting his teams to to come out and attack early um take that front foot um and you can tell Canada was ready from from the first minute I think it took us a little bit of time to to get into the game and kind of make adjustments but again I think that comes with you know maybe a little bit of a slightly different structure obviously I wasn't in Camp and I don't know you know what the plan was or the game plan was but um yeah it takes time to to settle into the game and I think it took us probably a little bit too long and we probably gave them a couple too many chances um but yeah as the game went on I think we grew into it I think the subs that we made later on made a huge difference for us as well bringing just some energy but you can tell it almost had a preseason game feel to it you saw a lot of guys cramping a lot of time wasting you know catching your breath um those kinds of things but um it's early on in the season for a lot of guys so I think guys are just trying to ramp up Fitness as well Canada did give us plenty of warning shots before they open the scoring Tim re who just become the first player in Charlotte history to represent the United States which I love Johnny Cordo fell to connect playing the ball out the back hakio pounce Jonathan Davis fed Jacob shaffle BG out wide Novo Scotia mbappe shuffled his feet slash the ball home um this was that first 20 minutes it was very very Jesse Marsh kind of punch you in the mouth football yeah no Canada is definitely growing into that mold I would say um you could see that the game was played on a bit of their terms early on um it took us a while to adapt but um Canada's athleticism is is something to deal with they have a lot of players that um are good in that pressing situation I think that's going to fit them very well that style of play go to ask you what is it like for you you are an elite competitor um watching this team uh from afar and being unable to influence proceedings yeah it pisses me off I I I don't I genuinely I I love watching football and I watch every every minute of every game just to to learn and and just take it all in um but it's hard for me to watch these games I know I should be playing in but I can't play in right now you know if it's not my team playing it's it's something a little bit different I'm a little bit more relaxed but um even these games right now I just some situation I just want to punch the iPad I was watching it I was just getting so angry but uh my time will come time will come first time Canada open the scoring against the US on USA since 1985 and by the way it's only thanks to schy in goal using his Missouri Paws of Justice to swat aside Kyle Laren um that they didn't take a a greater lead Jesse Marsh talked about the things he wanted to change about the Canadian team one of his things was the Canadians are too nice he he said I want more players who were in his own words a bit like he was um and I have to say the Canadians were gritty um in that first half they were all over Christian at every opportunity um tough first half watch really for us fans the intensity wasn't there shy really the difference keeping us in that game um we were out shot 11 to one uh in the first 45 the movement and interchanging connectivity was ratcheted up in the second half balagan word into life forced the sharp save but our boys are undone another moment of self-created wo playing out the back Jonathan David played in roof the ball from close range I don't know how you say doero in canuk um but Jesse Marshall leapt into the air it was as if you could hear a cackle faintly audible all around the world um and you talked about the US Changers Tyler Aiden Morris came on for Johnny cardoo Luca deor for Malik Tilman um Aiden Morris of Canadian desent to his dad like to think we got him in return when we sent kessi when we sent Jesse Marsh up north in that trade um their impact was immediate what what happens in those moments on the field fresh legs young legs people who wanted to prove themselves and announce themselves to POA Teo I didn't say that I meant just to prove themselves um what what what what's that like in a second half where these uh fresh legs come in and just transform everything yeah late in a game like that where you give so much for the first 60 70 minutes it's the worst to see fresh legs come I know you have to compete with someone that has 100% energy so um I think Aiden and and Luca did just that they they came on and they were just trying to make plays running competing in duels winning second balls all these small little details of of these types of games and what you need um and you saw that the goal kind of came out a little bit of nothing a transition moment you get more Bodies In The Box and something happens and yeah I'm happy for Luca um because Luca um is always a player that trains so well uh raises the level of the standard every single day in training um and yeah he he deserved that goal and um yeah I think he'll be an influential player for us moving forward as well yeah I I was so happy for him that the impact was immediate politic drove the ball across the box I think Joe scall recirculated it um Aiden Morris jined in possession and it felt to my All State player of the match Luca deor ldlt dict his first US goal all time super popular um in that Squad Tyler Luca de la toé to me he's one of the most naturally Talent suit us players he had quite a joury really sacrificed a lot um at Fulham in that Youth Academy really had to drive um himself forward to the professional ranks it's so humanly magical to see him flourish how happy were you for him in that moment yeah so happy for him Luca is just a great guy um he's one of those people that you just love having conversations with about anything possible life football whatever it is and he's one of those guys when I was coming up through the youth National team that you always heard of you know I never got to see him play never played with him but he was just one of those players that Luca delor is going to be the The Prodigy he has so much talent and you see the talent and the ability um obviously the competition in our team is is you know very rigid we have a lot of players in that position um but I think he's in a great position right now at saltao um continuing to play games and yeah he'll be an important player for us we all know that felt for a second um it was hoop is that you I mean I did I did have aftershocks of ever and Bournemouth for a second some nice cameos K cow natural blonde I swear to you had you right there was the moment ricado Pepe played through by could have finished but crepo just Matumbo it away um and Canada won 2-1 first win um on us soil since 1957 they did it all without the drones uh Bob upes in the chat says I thought was a bright spot attacking intent uh fine pass through to Pepe which of the US players did catch your eye in that second half and you thought interesting I liked Aiden Morris and Luca delor a lot um obviously Aiden making the transition to the championship with Middlesboro I think it's a great fit for him working under Michael Carrick who I've heard you know a lot of good things about I think the style of play suits him a lot coming from a team like Columbus which is a top top team in MLS um in the way that they play so I'm excited to see his his Evolution and his development um in England in the championship where you have the ability to just play so many games in a year and continue to develop so um him and then obviously Luca I I love watching Luca I know how talented of a player he is and I just think he's gonna be able to take that next step oh God speed Luca deor um friendlies mean everything and nothing we always say on this show tell I don't read too much into friendlies or resist that urge um you know there are losses that hurt trust me Everton 2 Bulma 3 comes mind um and I know no player likes losing and I know no American player likes pulling on an American Jersey and being defeated but when you lose in a friendly Tyler what does it feel like inside depends what the friendly is leading up into I think for us it's going to be an interesting to just try and get that feeling right of being able to compete at a high level and be able to show our mentality and get better every day because you know for us now going into to the 2026 World Cup we're going to have a whole lot of friendlies so um we need to be able to use these in the right way we need to be able to show everyone the mentality good body language show that we're improving and getting better but also prove to ourselves you want to go into tournaments with confidence and um like you saw for instance in cop America having two bad friendlies before cope America can you can continue that Trend but when you continue to win games winning becomes a mentality and a habit so um we need to continue to do that God the runup to World Cup 2026 is littered as you say with friendlies so let me rephrase that we must read too much into friendlies let's talk about Canada for a second cuz there is something Brewing up there um so much talent they honestly remind me a bit of the United States team back in the day some excellent individuals Jonathan David one of the best strikers coner C's ever produced um but it's the collective performance that Jesse's gleaning from then that old Spirit of grit and the collective being more than the whole uh that doesn't make any sense the colle the collective being more than the individual pieces um they are building on that Cooper semi-final that's the message that he'll be giving in that locker room with this result that will mean a lot to them it will be mean even more uh to Jesse Mar she'll be opening a special bottle of super Tuscan um in his home tonight a question from the chat for you here Tyler from redheaded Redemption Tyler what are your thoughts on Canada um what do you see uh in that play what do you see in that Evolution uh under Jesse Mo yeah no I see a lot a lot of bright spots in their team um I think you know before they had a lot of individual players and now they're bringing it all together and you can just see the quality that they have um a lot of athleticism in their team as well and I think the style of play suits them really really well so um yeah I think I think their arrival in in conera for sure um I guess going into 2026 World Cup it's a little bit strange because we've already qualified so we're not going through that rigid qualifying process like we did um for 2022 um but yeah they're they're arrival for sure they just they just beat us today so um we have to consider them arrival God and you know um the thing I do believe ultimately is that Canada being good Tyler it's actually great for the US Men's National Team and by the way I hope that Jamaica under Steve McLaren will take that next step up um Mexico um being reborn and aguer I hope I know a lot of Us wish you know the Mexican Rivals to go into free fall but ultimately I do believe like the competition level in conquer CAF we do want it to go up steel Sharp and steel I don't know if you feel that whatsoever but being that big dog in a in a um or a big fish in a small pond that that that cannot lead to the kind of steep Improvement that we want We crave we desire as American fans no not only that and I think you know for me being a kid that came out of MLS as well is it's going to produce more good American young players from MLS as well you're competing with top other players from Top other countries so um no this is honestly it's amazing for conquer CF it's amazing for for US soccer I think we're g gonna continue to grow from this and evolve from this um and we're going to continue to find more players that are playing in tougher environments now whether it's in MLS or abroad so it's perfect H you win this one Jesse Marsh but we will see you again um idea um but a bigger news crackling around and I don't know if you've heard dear listeners but Maro poino former Tottenham Hots Paris San man Chelsea coach um has reportedly agreed to take on the United statesnational Team job the deal has been complex um Financial settlements had to be resolved with Chelsea which have taken time um and we're waiting for approval from US soccer federation's board of directors uh which is reported to be that the smoke the white smoke from the US soccer chimney will come out no doubt this weekend H God bless process um but you're a player who know poch well I I see him as a culture Builder a developer of Youth um he loves grinta he loves Spirit he loves fight um I mean he loves he loves two a days he loves three a days you've played against him from a premier league players's perspective what is Po's reputation um what are the teams of his that you played against like um and how are you feeling as the news kind of buzzes around the US Men's National Team group chats yeah it's it's really really exciting news I think to to be able to play under a manager of that caliber is a unique experience as a player um I've only heard amazing things about him you know when I was in the process of signing with Chelsea uh in the transfer window I was able to have a couple conversations with him and um you know for me to to hear hear it from him the way that he wants to play his tactics all these different details um it's very very unique and I think it's going to fit the mold of the players that we have uh physical teams um that run a lot compete a lot um and that's his mentality so uh I'm excited to to have an opportunity to play under him once it is agreed I'm not going to say it's agreed yet um but yeah I'm looking forward to it by the way um you know one fascinating thread of a St well what two quick things actually on poch I had the magical Anthony Robinson on the show I think the week before last you can find that interview on our YouTube page he said what this squad needs is someone who will and I'm paraphrasing slightly crack the players behind a tough coach or call the shots make the decisions needed to take this team next level last time you came on you said you wanted a manager who was quote ruthless um is Maro poino all that in your mind 100 100% I think his his background and his pedigree says enough um some of the players that that he's had to deal with um some having egos some not having egos how to get the best out of certain teams how to win things um that's that's what we need we need that in our culture you need to have someone that um is addicted to winning and has that mentality uh to improve and set the standards and bar really high and you know what Anthony said is is absolutely right you know sometimes if you if you feel the team is getting a little complacent you need a manager that's going to put you in your place so um I definitely believe that um last question Tyler actually two more one from the chat there's really interesting story that came out at the end of the week from the global footballers Union Thief Pro issued a report highlighting quote the excessive workload many top stars have faced during the 2023 24 season they found out nearly a third this is incredible a men's players were in squads for over 55 games a season Argentina Julian Alvarez once of Manchester City uh made a total of 75 appearances for club and Country last season in a 14mon campaign um that concluded with the summers's Copa uh and Olympics um lot of talk right now about the players just being asked to do too much about any possible chance of recovery particularly on young bodies my God that wear and tear um there's no real sense of science about what what's happening to the the foden what's happening to the bukayo sackers as they are playing over and over on this new Relentless schedule for club and Country um as the calendar continues to expand Ty new tournaments being invented ever more can you give us a sense of your read on this that that that the players are literally being driven into the ground yeah I mean I think you know even even as I kind of continue to go through that phase right now and I'm trying to work my way out of it um everything it catches up to everybody eventually um unfortunately and I think what people need to realize is it needs to be quality over quantity um you can't expect players to perform at a high level and have um a great viewing every single week um unless they're able to rest recover and have time off I mean even coming into the season when we looked at the calendar um for a team like Bournemouth who's obviously not competing in Europe you obviously have one week or one game a week which is fine but there's not even a winter break or a couple days just to to reset and kind of go again and everyone knows how congested it gets around boxing day so um yeah I'm it's it's difficult especially for the top teams that are competing in Europe and the best players are national team players and playing those games if you want a high quality high quality viewing every week week in week out um there obviously has to be you know a little bit of less games God it does feel like the old um the chicken that laid the golden egg Parable World football um right now can you just tell us how you are feeling do you have a sense of your own process of of healing yeah no I'm in a a really good spot right now I'm training on the field individually um not not too far away from from training with the team and then yeah obviously I I'll reintegrate back into the team slowly um to try and get games but yeah hopefully around you know next International break or or a little bit after uh with Bournemouth in in a game so uh yeah not not too far away can I imag in Chicago and the Chicago Bears part their ownership group owns a pie of Bournemouth um so I spent some time with someone from the Bournemouth front office and he told me a beautiful phrase he said Tyler Adams is on the grass which phrase it's like he's on the grass godp speed it cannot come quick enough but also slowly slowly slowly one before we go from the chat um redheaded Redemption again another great question Tyler who is your greatest US Men's National Team Idol from years past who do you look at and just think of as wolf like a really distant old old player like Tim Reed not Tim re uh no for me for me it's Clint dempy um obviously didn't didn't play forward didn't don't score many goals but um for me just his mentality kind of how he went about his career you know going to college going playing in MLS playing abroad um he kind of just show showed that no one has a straight path to the top and he took a little bit of a different path and it it all worked out all right and yeah for me he's a US soccer Legend so um yeah he's he's one of my idol God um godspeed to Clint Dempsey a true great of human Wonder Tyler I'm going to let you step off go and enjoy your break in London all I ask is go easy on everon beautiful you got it thanks Raj Tyler you're an incredible human being and before we get to your questions quotes just in from Jesse Marsh Fire Fox Soccer Doug McIntyre um who tweeted this quote this is Jesse saying I'm not better about not getting the US mational team job people think I'm better but most people if they ask me a question I answer it that's how I operate in the media I'd rather coach our team 100% by the way when he says team he means Canada now he's he's gone he's turned this is dances with walls kastar um I'd much rather coach Canada than the United States right now by the way there is that phrase he protest of too much but I I don't think it's the case with Jesse the reality is Jesse is that man you can actually ask him anything um he will give you an honest answer and people do keep answering and that's why these sound bites keep coming um by the way when I say people keep asking uh fold myself in amongst them I do think it is one of the most fascinating storylines in conquer CAF right now and again I think it's bloody great for conquer CAF we need these story lines we need these rivalries we need Canada to S only then can we sharpen um this is actually a great day please God at a remarkable time of transition for the United States quickly to your questions a reminder of how this works on I'll do it live uh just scan the QR code top left of your screen or click the Ping comment in chat I'll take you into a zoom with our producer oh the beautiful Tony I'll tell you everything you need to know come on smash that like button otherwise but let's start with oh is it Curran from Oregon um come on up tell us exactly where you are and what's your question currently hey how's it going Raj can you hear me I hear you loud and clear over where are you in that Mighty state of Oregon current I'm right in Bend Oregon but uh shout out to Vermont that's where I was born and raised where about Vermont that beautiful beautiful state I'm from uh best known as Woodstock I went to high school around there God you I've got to say you just live in one beautiful part this nation after another current I love y pretty well I gota say what is your question mate but uh first of all my dad's a big fan so shout out to him he's the one that got me into soccer um what I grew up I grew up watching soccer in like the early 2000s 2010s and this team it just baffles me Raj the heart is just not there and I just don't understand we used to have players like DC onu Michael Bradley Brian McBride like I I don't know what we're doing anymore so your question is what exactly can you just my question is like I I just don't know what's happened to this program and the sense of like the heart when you put on the American uh the American Jersey I mean we just have completely lost that hard-nosed style of soccer that we used to be known for yeah okay um by the way number one I love that you lived in font I loved he live in Bend Oregon um I really admire a human being who only lives in birken stock cities believe me I really do curan you got to tell me your dad's name so we can give him a shout out for bringing you D dere big fan of yours God love Biggie um is a joy to commune with your fine son the mighty Curran look I'm in Chicago um so I will say the following um which is there's a great book um by Rich Cohen um about the history of the Chicago Bears um and he wrote about Mike Dicker who was the coach when the Bears won the Super Bowl 1985 86 um and there's a quote from one of the players a linebacker uh on that Bears team and he said look there's there's there's two kinds of coaches um in football and it's true in our sport too in our code of football he said there's there's there's paracetamol coaches um who are players coaches they create a lovely environment it's you know friends it's nice it's safe it's uh you know no one's humiliated it's all about you know culture and joy and just um guys together um and this he used the phrase It's a a very crude phrase in comparison but it works he said there's chemotherapy coaches um and he said they both have incredible flaws and he was talking about Mike Dicker he said Mike Dicker was the ultimate chemotherapy coach and he he even um articulated what that means he said a chemo coach all they can do is blast and shout and blast and blast and blast some more and just drive everybody uh to just a you know a level of of mania um uh Focus uh Obsession and fear um and he said with Mike dicka the Bears were unbelievable for that one year they were very good the next year but then they just wilted like a Soule in the oven um and he said that's because once you win and you win the Super Bowl all M di could do was blast some more just blast and blast and blast and ultimately the players tuned him out so that that's the fallibility of the chemo coach um and he said the the paracetamol coach is just so you know sweet uh and lovely the boundaries are just never drawn any parent your dad Big E will know this probably any parent knows things go haywire when you don't create structure for your kids um and I think ultimately what we've had with Greg Balter his great contribution you know you can talk about tactics you can talk about selection absolutely and completely the idea of football and naivity but one of his strengths was and I think ultimately his gift to the program um was the after inheriting the Purgatory of of the interim a self a self-created problem post 2017 this program took a year off Dave sarakan a lovely man was the interim coach um yeah what what Balter did was rebuild Tyler talks about it a lot all the players do the band The Brothers the culture the joy and he knitted it together again and you had that um but as a paracetamol coach I think there no doubt um there is definitely a softness um that comes with it um I mean you look at it um and it's something that's of talked about and off pointed to and and some of the players will talk about it also um know players were fairly well guaranteed um a place um you we knew exactly who our starters were there was no uh Replacements you if someone was had great Club form they didn't get that shout that opportunity that you saw today Johnny that was one of the most frustrating parts of today you know wasn't a claim you don't think wow gosh you know we've got this great replacement now Johnny really sees the moment um so ultimately that is what I think has happened I think these players offer I I do know them fairly well at this point I think anyone who listens to this show knows them um they are ferocious in what they've achieved in Europe to do what most of them have done in Europe uh to grind their way delor going from America to that Fulham Youth Academy the way he talks about it honestly the culture shock The Clash um the loneliness just the confusion the I mean it sounds like a dezian novel of suffering that he lived for several years but he ground his way through um and has become the player he is they do have that really I mean calisan mentality um the thing that's going to be fascinating about poch Curran this is my final point you tell me what you think beautiful um is he's inheriting a series of players almost all of whom are very able but almost all of whom have Challen many of them have challenges to their current form and that's going to be the fascinating part um of his analysis his action what he does I mean look at it Weston mckin um you know constantly having to prove himself at Juventus um I mean that's been a very brick you know he's done out of the project then he's just back in it the last minute Tyler um you know fighting his way back from injuries GI we talked earlier about his predicament um you know Unice Musa fighting for moments at AC Milan Matt Turner who is such an incredible leader of this team this time 18 months ago again fighting for minutes almost across a would name a player and you're seeing like it's almost a collective exential moment for many of these players in their clubs and watching what poch does where as a great man manager that we know he is with these individuals I think it's going to be the one of the most fascinating parts of his narrative what's your take beautiful before you get well Raj is always you got the best quotes out there but I agree I'm excited for PCH and I'm not trying to bag on the players too much you know obviously we have incredible Talent we have some really hard-nosed guys but it just feels like every time this squad has come together in last four years we just don't have like I mean you see it today like when py gets a hard tackle nobody's stepping up and challenge the Canadian Defender it's like it's just little things like that I feel like we're just missing like that spark that we used to have like bloody knows Clint Dempsey swollen ey like Brian McBride we just don't I I'm just not seeing that fight from this squad and I know they have it it's just it's just frustrating to just watch this over the last especially the last year it's just been it's it's just been tough to watch I I do believe uh the the PO chatino Mantra is the is the and I do my Spanish is poor and I apologize to to Spanish because his grinter the fight that he is a that's the core value that is non-negotiable um so I assure you these players have that ability um I I know they do I'm excited it's just I'm I'm I'm just ready for it to happen it's just been too many years in the last couple years I'm just I I I I agree B mbde by the way perpetually had a black eye he was almost better with I sh than any we we just need a little more Rough and Tumble American style you know I'm pretty sure Brian mbri gave himself a black eye part of his warm up before the game oh that feels good happy big love to your dad CED Christina apprciate you're beautiful human being unmute Christina come be with us tell us where you are and what's your question this is Christina from J Missouri and Raj I know you're in Chicago and my question is based on the NFL because we both have a love for football as far as the beautiful game of soccer and the NFL should we be as the NFL players C pree you're looking at your roster you're seeing what you have but you're also trying to protect the players as well yeah I mean I mean Tyler made a bloody good point you know I I don't believe um I mean football doesn't love friendlies it's why they've all created these the Nations League a tournament out of nothing to try and give friendlies some some Merit some heft some meaning I mean the honest truth is um it is um it is a rule that we always say you cannot read too much into friendes but tler said friendes are kind of all we have in a runup to the United States what I'd say is this friendly was not memorable in any way in fact outside of the marsh house and by the way I I bet you Jesse is giving these Canadian players a a a a team talk that they will remember uh when they break I mean he's probably giving them uh Any Given Sunday levels of oror ship right now because he's he's got this project and he's like you know what we started what we started in the coopa I'm sure there's a lot of f bombs in there knowing Jesse too um and this for him validation another step on going into their house that's all those kind of terms and and telling them who's dog who's Top Dog lot of football speak in there I love how excited I am about the the made up fictional uh cliches of the Jessie is interspersing in between the F bombs um but for them it was meaningful I don't want to take this away from it just because we lost from a Canadian perspective I think there is a narrative of growth proving themselves to themselves I mean you could say even this was a historic WI I think for the United States right now I don't we can't say this about too many friendlies because that's as Tyler said all we have I think this game is forgotten the second it's done it means nothing this is a surreal moment in United States football I want to be clear here the biggest Club manager we have ever had is about to walk through the door uh in the next 72 hours and say I choose to ride with you I had options uh in international football and Club football but now I chose when you called and offered this opportunity I chose to meet you there and that overshadows everything I mean we were joking um uh on the call with Jay dubs and and some of the The Producers we're trying to think what is what is this game like where it almost feels like nothing compared to what is about to happen next week and the one the idea we did come up with that it is like Taylor Swift and an NFL game Taylor's Fame so enormous the cutaways are so meanw worthy that it almost overshadows even uh the Super Bowl champions playing on the field in front of her that's where we are so I would say I think friendlies are important I think we have no choice but to take them seriously going forward but this one um I it's almost weird to be talking about it for an hour afterwards it was so like pathetic compared to all uh that is to come um godp Christina godp speed all NFL fans what a journey um for me I've got to tell you I have never been more optimistic about a Chicago Bears uh season since the Super Bowl season when I was a teen a naive teenager I am ready to have my heart broken I am ready to be disappointed and shattered I both know I am going to be shattered and disappointed but right now I am believing that we are going to new or to the Super Bowl um I think Caleb Williams is going to be the single best course about the Bears have had uh since Sid lman in like the 1920s God speed to you enjoy your football we'll take one more uh and then we will go okay we'll go to our DMS in Instagram from Tim in rubo Beach Delaware I've been riding and dying with this team since the stonewash denim Days please tell me it's going to be okay got Tim where are you do you have you heard the news um God bless in every regard um it is these are amazing days can I just tell you this um look this is how I'll end this show um I think we are um about to experience um an amazing 18 months I no one knows how this is going to work there are no Givens uh in management management uh Team cultures um are like uh uh a heart transplant um they can either work and you can have Decades of Wonderful Life you can be rejected by the host body so there's no guaranteed slam dunks here but what what I do believe number one Mar poin is a bloody good human being number two he wants to do this job he has many options this is not you know a guy going into International Management because they'd like to work they burn out they like to work on their golf game uh he sees something I'm looking forward to him hearing about what it is it's going to be a very different management relationship that we've had before you the US manager we're used to them being part manager part kind of cheerleader for the growth of the game in the United States it'll be interesting to see the extent to which um to which iio is you know kind of front and center is he going to be the the guy that's going on um Jimmy Kimmel um you know to do football bits I I don't imagine he is he's a he's a legit um Global great manager and he will act like a legit Global great manager which is a new thing um for all of us over here um but the fight the youth development the man management the tactics obviously um his ability to um to do it all in international football where you have those two three trainings uh is bloody um it's bloody and unknown that's the great unknown as opposed to International Football I mean that that's going to be an interesting transition for him but we've seen Jesse MOS uh take to it like a duck to water um so I do not fear um there is so much to feel optimistic about in some ways this is a no lose for Maro poatina if it goes pair shape for him it's not his fault he can just completely plug back uh into Club football after the World Cup 2026 but what I can tell you is it is joyous um the upside feels so much greater than the downside the possibility so much more than the the possibility of jagged rocks just below the surface that we cannot see these players will lessen these players will learn these players I do believe these that's what I say these players are bloody good footballers there is a true collective in there we have just not seen it coh here with an idea of football and I'm so excited uh to see these talents they are talented I mean you heard Tyler talk about ldlt he is a talented he's a terrific footballer um Eunice Musa um with poch's arm around him um just a phenomenal footballer um you know Chris Richards um you know Austin trusty is a very I mean there are there are levels and God bless Aiden Morris tonight what a what a what a scrappy dog he was like watching a Labradoodle LED off its leash in the park for the first time it was magical to see there is so much to feel great about um so yes short answer Tim from rubo Beach Delaware I am telling you it's going to be more than okay that is it for today massive thanks to all of you uh particularly the gfop at all state for making all of this possible um we are taping with Mike Dean my hair hero uh to go deep on refereeing this week Rex's Rob Mel heny his team under defeated and top of League one um God what a win today against rival Shrewsbury um we also have Brighton's doie how as a manager Fabian Herz coming on on Tuesday uh there is more to come follow us on YouTube subscribe right here right now uh this is Rod saying big big love and courage well done Canada well done Jesse Marsh enjoy your night and go go USA courage
