Chicago's north suburbs hit hard by last night's storms

ANTHONY. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU GABRIELLA. WE'LL CHECK BACK IN WITH YOU SOON AT SIX. OH TWO. CLEANUP IS UNDERWAY THIS MORNING BECAUSE OF THE STORMS OVERNIGHT. LET'S CHECK IN WITH JOANIE. SHE IS LIVE UP IN EVANSTON, WHERE A LOT OF DOWNED TREES HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THESE STORMS. JOANIE, HOW'S IT LOOKING OUT THERE? THIS MORNING? ANTHONY? THERE ARE DOWNED TREES ON EVERY BLOCK AS YOU GO AWAY FROM THE LAKE. WE SHOWED YOU ONE OF THE BUILDINGS THAT HAD LARGE TREES THAT HAD FALLEN DOWN ACROSS FROM DUSK PARK, WHICH IS NEAR THE LAKE. AND WE'VE SEEN SOME BIG TRUCKS THAT ARE MOVING AROUND TRYING TO DEAL WITH ALL THIS ALREADY CHIPPING SOME OF THE WOOD FROM BRANCHES THAT HAVE FALLEN. THIS IS A NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY BUILDING, AND THE TREE APPEARS TO HAVE SPLIT AND FALLEN RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT. THEY HAVE THESE STANCHIONS OUT HERE AND THEY HAVE CLEARED THE SIDEWALK. SO THEY HAVE DONE SOME WORK TO CLEAR SOME DEBRIS HERE, BUT YOU CAN JUST SEE HOW BIG THAT TREE IS. IT'S FALLEN ON THE SIGN THAT INDICATING WHATEVER DEPARTMENT THAT IS HERE. AND THEN THE BRANCHES EXTEND OUT THROUGHOUT THE LAWN AS WE LOOK UP, WE CAN SEE SOME BRANCHES THAT ARE STILL SOMEWHAT ATTACHED. SO THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO WALK UNDER. THERE REALLY BIG TREES HERE IN EVANSTON THAT HAVE FALLEN NEARLY ON EVERY BLOCK AS WE GO WEST FROM THE LAKE. LOOK AT ALL THE DEBRIS IN THAT LAWN. BUT AS I SAID, IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANYTHING FELL ON THE PORCH, WHICH IS GREAT. OR ON CARS OR ON PEOPLE. AND IT APPEARS THAT THEY STILL HAVE POWER IN THIS AREA, BUT SURELY A LOT TO CLEAN UP. SOME OF THE EVANSTON RESIDENTS WERE OUT AFTER ALL THAT RAIN THAT FELL LAST NIGHT. IT'S A VERY NOISY AND DRAMATIC STORM, BUT AT THE BEGINNING IT WAS COMPLETELY QUIET. AND THEN THERE WAS THIS STRIKE, AND THAT'S WHEN IT STARTED. AND THE WIND, I NEVER SAW RAIN COME DOWN LIKE THAT. THERE WAS A LOT OF RAIN TO ME. IT LOOKED LIKE A MONSOON OUTSIDE, JUST A LOT OF RAIN IN A VERY SHORT TIME. SURE SEEMED LIKE A MONSOON, DIDN'T IT? WHERE? WHEREVER YOU WERE WHEN IT RAINED, IT RAINED SO HARD. AND HERE IN EVANSTON, THERE WAS A STRONG WIND THAT CAME THROUGH AS WELL. LOOK AT ALL THE DEBRIS. THOSE WERE REALLY TALL TREES THAT ARE NOW ON THE GROUND. AND THIS IS JUST ONE CORNER OF EVANSTON. LOTS OF TREES THAT USED TO BE TALL AND BEAUTIFUL. NOW DOWN ON THE GROUND, THE CREWS HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND. THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A LOT OF CLEANING UP TO DO ONCE THE SUN REALLY DOES RISE.
