he's with car I I'll come back he says no um come in now so he brought me over sat down and they actually had like a a scouting report and I heard say we've checked him out this boy's profile is really good and we should do it and caros said that in front of me and I looked and it was Patrice Abra I was like I never heard of him I'd never heard of you obviously in terms of football but they were actually talking and Carlos was really pushing for you to come into you know why Carlos was pushing is because we beat the Real Madrid the real G galactico when he was the manager of Madrid when we play play for Monaco in 2004 so that's why and I give two assists that game I play like a great game and we yeah but a lot of teams beat him as a manager when he was at anyway be the the real floor and when we were doing the stretching I see him and Rio laughing about me they were like prop laughing even like Paul schs he think I was a joker he said we have to send him like for free to to Monaco to tell you my debut was like so bad the first six months I struggled so much I was playing in Monaco came here in Manchester the weather was like just miserable just have a kid and my first game against Manchester City so it was a really really bad stuff me and VA actually I remember we also play in The Reserve team and R sub us because we were like that bad R yeah Rene and we were in the shower me and VA talking VA was like I may like go back to belgrad and me I say my agent told me I got as Roma so I may go to Italy so yeah you weren't as bad as V though how did you get with did you get with two of them honestly the two of them were terrible they tough Stu was it talking about I openly said these not good enough like but right you laugh terrible obviously but that's was I'm happy that's why we were like not just a team We are family and telling the truth yes you know because they never no one of them come say no don't worry you doing well they were looking at me and you let us down but to be honest when we play against uh Manchester City I never play at 12 in my life you know in France you play in the afternoon or in the evening that's the first time ever that's first time and I just at three training session with the team and we had a breakfast Mikel Sylvester and Lisa was eating like pasta be I'm not a fan of breakfast I said you know I'm going to try to adapt so I'm doing the same go in my room I start vomiting feeling sick and I said I will call the bus and say you know I can't play but I was scared people we say oh he's scared this there b he don't want to show up so I remember it was so Sunny that day and he's never sunny in Manchester trust me it was so hot then I play against Trevor Sinclair after 2 minute he Elbo me I was like bleeding and I was again the post and I was like thinking what the hell I'm doing here the football is so fast I was in Monte Carlo you know chilling then two n half time uh come in the dressing room Ferguson gave the air dryer to everyone then he just look at me he say you you're going to sit and next to me and and watch the rest of the game and learn how to play in England and he get worse because when I went uh to my agent house he was with his wife and he looked at me just said Patrice I'm sorry I said what do you mean you're sorry he said I should never bring you at United you should have like played for Monaco so but I actually I needed that because I be honest with you when I was playing in Monaco I've been like named the best fullback for four years in the row the best young French player playing in the final of Champions League winning TR so I was think I was big I I promise you I come to United with the wrong approach but I back to the reality after my first training session when Albert you remember I didn't like the St and he said you need to put St I said no I never play with st and I was like just like sliding everywhere and you know I was like just sted I was like don't worry I know what I'm doing you know I play for Monaco in the French league but yeah it was it was tough but I actually love it and also the fact my teammate were nice with me and telling me things in the face now it's the new generation you can't say that you know they're going to cry but after it was a summer I missed the World Cup and I understand to play in England you have to be strong in your leg first not like playing like skill or whatever so I train all the summer and we do the the preseason in South Africa and I remember Mick fand he shook my hand he said now you're United player wow and from that there but it was it was tough like a new baby new country and it's it's normal but you you never give up you never give [Music] up that first game that they I mean I I was playing right back I remember you Evra’s first game for Man United v Man City know every kick was literally diagonal from the goalkeeper right on top of him yeah they just peppered it was it against Man City Man City 12:00 kickoff obviously Derby was because they usually us should do it to your I was like keep putting it on cu the other left back at the time was Gabriel Hines was it yeah yeah Gabby so do you know something this is actually a true story I don't think I've ever said this so I don't I don't think ever did it before and he ever did it again the boss the boss got me schoy and gigsy into his room on a Friday before game definitely done before no he hadn't again as Aston Villa only when you were [ __ ] about Aston Villa yeah and it was at the time when it was like you or Gabby would play like you'd rotate between you yeah I tell a story about that because um you remember the game in against Villa yeah yeah but that's I remember because I I I fell out with uh with the boss when you know I win like the best left back and you remember we have that final FA Cup in wemble against Chelsea yeah and the day before the game I remember we had a training session so he said Patrice I'm sorry you know I can't play you too more I said what do you mean he said because he was like an article in the paper when the journalist they were where I grew up in the street and they say Patrice was a drug dealer was a fighter of was part of the gang so the sun they put this on the front page and the the boss say I can't play you tomorrow because the Glazer called me and for the image of the club and I was like but boss this is just my part and he said no I'm joking I'm joking so he gave me the bibs I was like with Cristiano on the left so you know for me I'm playing the next day the day of the game I put some music and someone knocked my door I said maybe it's the room service then I open it was the boss and he he said he said Patrice I won't play you son I will play Gabby because you know he's at wemble the pitch is the grass is really high it's really warm but you're going to win the game for us I know you disappointed but trust me anyway after 5 minutes I remember the boss tell me to warm up I warm up for like 90 minute I was like fuming I never get in and we lost Dr scored a goal we lost and I remember I took my middle I threw my midle on the floor and the boss come to shake my hand I didn't shake his hand then I remember two weeks later he called me and he said I'm I'm sorry I made a mistake because after that I called my agent I say I don't want to play for Man United anymore this is respectful because even at at the after party people will say why you didn't play why you didn't play are you injury I said I'm not injury I don't know this was like a moment where I was going to leave you think he was joking about the but I never you know I see him often and I never ask him the reason but to make that joke yes and after saying you're going to play and I'm not playing I never asked him so that means somebody must have said that to him for him to put it in his mind to tell you that and then he actually left you out yeah and was it that reason because of your past I I don't know right I I I don't know what's the reason but that's the joke he made the day before the game but this was I was really I think Gabby to be fair Gabby was a good player he went he went a p l but Gabby was a good player so I can see why at times as well he's changed it but he done that he made some same decisions I remember he played um Fabio in the Champions League final instead of Rafa and he played Rafa all all season and Fabio normally would play left back and yeah he picked Fabio at right back for the Champions League final but so it was I think in finals he's done some strange things he called us in and he said if I pick Patrice today he said it was getting that he knew the tension between you both because Gabrielle was obviously quite feisty as well and one of you were going to leave if you weren't playing so so basically he was he was he was making that decision in terms of who sort of the the left back to choose and he came and said to us you know do you trust Patrice now we put in and we said yeah 100% And I remember that conversation before a game against Aston Villa he never he never done that before or since to be honest with you at that point obviously you were both saying to him probably you know if I don't play I'm going to go so he obvious make a decision I be I'll be honest guys i' never say that to him I was just like yeah but I was just happy to play but I know because I had good relation relationship with Gabby Enzo and he said the boss lied to me because they tell him I'm going to buy a new left back when you get back from injury you going to you still the number one but I think Ferguson was surprised how good I was then that's when he said listen he's younger he's faster I've got my left back and now you have to you know what it reflects on management and obviously for again you're trying to keep all Lads you're trying to keep Lads happy your feisty we've had Yap here we've had play a lot of EX players sitting here way you sat there me and you go look but a manager's job is trying to stroke people's egos you have to leave people out in Big Cup finals and there is that there is that constant tension in a big club and that's what the great manager they do manage it whether they do it rightly or wrongly sometimes but the majority times they get it right but I bet you like the situation you were having that was going on with other players at the club the strikers we've mentioned that were sitting here Co he was talking about his stuff with Ferguson Mist all that's going on and that's where makes yeah it's that management side whatever about tactics it's managing a group of personalities which is as we know so difficult particularly when every player maybe at your level feel they should be playing cuz again I be honest like I never judge a manager he make his decision I always respect his decision and that that year that second year I was playing so well so even when he was putting me on the bench I was like I'm in peace with myself I'm doing the job but it's just to make that job before the final and not playing that's I think that's when it twisted me I was Patrice S I just want to make a point remember the lads have told stories over the years when the players have been left out of big games loads of but he's taught me stuff Bruce he and the stuff the manager kind of said to him why he's leaving him out it's like you're scratching your head almost and I don't mean just about just at Man United managers almost almost have to lie to players almost in a sense why do leaving you smiling I said it's my birthday why I have to smile I'm paying I'm I'm being paid to play not to smile he said but relax don't worry I said why I'm not playing tomorrow he said but the the the the G didn't make his mind yet don't worry I said listen it's like seven year I'm in the club I know I'm not playing tomor so anyway I finished the training session then I went to the BS office and knock the door oh Patrice I said why I'm not playing against talk no but Patrice look you playing every game I see you were a little bit tired against Manchester City I said boss I'm going to play he say no the door wow he didn't say anything the day of the game I remember he pulled the team I was starting starting 11 and I remember I see Alex his face was getting red because the G didn't have time even Butner then I would have been doing the exact same yeah then wait then we won we won I think 40 he beat Stoke we beat St Jesus the fight we've been stok then I remember the boss come and he said now I know you got balls because if you were not playing well that game you will never play for United then I went I apologized to Alex I said listen you were supposed to play but this one I wanted to show to the manager you know I'm not tired now you can play the Coca-Cola game the cup game c Coca-Cola but you it's interesting like when when um I first started in television and you were made Captain by the manager and David Moyes the 2012 13 and I remember speaking to a couple of people on sky and they're saying patri is ever a captain but you actually had to be in the dress room to understand what he was like he was probably the most vociferous before a game at Halftime and to be fair would probably go tell the manager stuff I would never go to man I'm playing tomorrow not in a million years I would never but you know what I'm saying Lads you you did stuff you he would honestly he was like that I actually heard him once at breakfast on the Friday come in the morning I'm playing where I'm they it was it was a but in in a way I'm playing don't without disrespect I never say like nothing to the gaer in front of everyone I would never even if he was wrong was a did and didn't speak for start playing 433 in European game and I remember he take me in his room and he say uh Patrice what what do you think should we stick to the 442 or 433 and I say I think 433 because in a Europe game you win the the game in the Midfield we need more Midfield then after the the next game we play 433 and we start keep like playing 433 so I don't know if he went to other player and asked them that and when I give my answer he say you correct okay thank you son so it was a really open relationship yeah but I think that's management does some you're getting feedback from players and I'm not trying to play it down but some managers they're going to go that way but want they want to get players on side as if you have took took your message on board I'm pretty sure he might have gone down us yeah yeah what's the point in having the staff with him I'm sure the staff would have looked at in Europe we need an extra body Midfield you're getting found out especially get the better teams but part that then is good management you're pretending the players are having an input do you know what I'm saying no I know but he was even asking us like which player we should B like he asked me many like the dirty work and and and Rio was playing like a number 10 so it was amazing and we had you we had Wes and myself but to be honest we were like connected to each other like we know exactly which movement we're going to do when you know the opponent going to attack us we were like it was natural nothing was being forced and no matter if guys you were playing or west or or johon or or what we
