OU Football: Sooners' David Stone and Jayden Jackson both score in Polynesian Bowl.

what is up sooner Nation welcome back to another edition of the sooner surge here to talk about the Polynesian bowl that took place yesterday where two Sooners really shined uh Jaden Jackson and David Stone I don't think it's a surprise that they shined but I feel like we have to talk about what took place there at the Polynesian bow hunter drop us with some stats yeah uh David Stone this was his second uh bowl game of the uh big time bowls for the high school players that are going on to college Stone and Jackson already enrolled at OU right now uh but Stone was one of the players to watch on the broadcast soon as it started and I mean he showed up when it mattered most him and Jaden Jackson in the middle for their team was very impressive you could notice it when they were not in there was not as much pressure getting to the quarterback uh defensive line just kind of getting pushed around a lot more than when those two were in and and I mean you kind of just have to call them what they are Batman and Robin like these guys are twps and the pods they've been teammates now for multiple years at IMG they're best friends got to be roommates and you you see that in how they play Jaden Jackson got after the quarterback early uh he had two tackles very early on in the game in the first quarter then it was really second half uh their team was down 17 nothing at the half and Jaden Jackson and David Stone turned that around very quickly Jaden Jackson recovered a fumble put points on the board immediately after then he recovered another one scored it was in the end zone for a touchdown three-point game and then the play that everyone was talking about last night uh David Stone scoop and score touchdown for the lead uh if you guys watch the game he was saying on there I mean the the half time his thoughts were not going to lose my first High School game and since 2022 he he hasn't lost in a long time won a lot at IMG so big time game for both of them I think Jaden Jackson finished with like three three and a half tackles they had a sack combo sack then jayen Jackson had two fumble recoveries one for a touchdown Stone had that sack and uh fumble recovery for a touchdown well I David son and Jaden Jackson are they're winners they they have been and you know you see guys that are highly recruited that they get to some of these games and they don't show out okay that's not David Stone that's not Jan Jackson and it's because who they've played against too I mean they've they've played against tough competition and they aren't going anywhere and uh when you think of guys that have been recruited by Oklahoma on the defensive side of the ball uh that have been highly touted as David Stone there's a handful of them not a whole lot but he's a guy that's not going to back away from playing time not going to back away from making an early difference on this team in fact I think he's gonna kind of embrace it I think him and he wants him and Jaden Jackson to be playing together next year at Oklahoma on the field together that's his expectations and he's not going to back down from it and I don't guys I mean say what you want freshman whatever I I don't know how you're going to keep David Stone off the field and and Jaden Jackson maybe either I mean I think they're both really good players that are almost ready to go right now yeah and look I I I know the saying put the ponies in the barn when the game's over I know a lot of sooner fans would sit here and say right now to all three of us hold the ponies hold the horses here uh these guys are freshman I get it okay but when you talk about freshman tandem duo tandems or even let's just talk defensive line tandems the one that stands out is Tommy Harris Dusty to War uh outside of that Gerald McCoy was I mean Gerald McCoy was him uh who was alongside him I'm talking two guys together again it is very early we get it we're in January these guys still should be in high school they're enrolled at OU though they're going to go through the Schmitty built program they're going to work hard because that's who they are uh I think sky is the limit and I if they live up to the expectation that a lot of sooner fans and not just sooner fans uh we can talk recruiting experts everyone has for them they will very well be the best in sooner history yeah David Stone's interesting because when you watch them at these All-American games at the under arour All-American Game for one most guys they play in one game and that's about it if they're doing this Allstar type of thing before College a final High School game Stone played at the Under Armour All-American Game at the beginning of the month went moved into OU then immediately left to go to Hawaii for the Polynesian bowl like and you watch him in the practices and the clips you see he has like that mindset that he is an under recruited guy with something to prove and the truth of the matter he's a consensus five-star defensive line every single service has him as a top 20 or higher player in the country and he's not satisfied with that I mean everyone saw his uh kind of beef with on three with the national guys over there with how they have raided him with what one of their head uh recruiting guys has kind of compared him to uh not giving him that full five star respect he feels he deserves and you see it uh in his play he's going against Elite competition I mean that's what he's W against since his junior year of high school since he went to IMG after he left Dell City where he was from to now you see him at the Under Armour camp at that ball prep all of that he was dominating every single game day then in the game Dominator Polynesian ball dominated all throughout the week then in the game makes the game-winning play scoop and score to win it then Jaden Jackson you mix that in you can just see the comfortability between those two when they're lined up alongside each other they played with each other for now two years they know what the other one does they know how to feed off of each other and yeah they are freshman and U has a lot of guys in that defensive line room but with those two type of players it's going to be very hard to keep them off the field by the end of the season Hunter inject it all into my veins all that you said all that David Stone is his attitude injected in right now I'm ready for it ready for it next season and that's to me kind of what U's been missing mentality wise uh he's got a mentality of I I'm not satisfied with anything until we're on top or till he's on top till we're on top whatever you want to say it's his attitude and if you look at games like Kansas in Oklahoma State uh need a killer attitude and I'm not talking just defense I'm talking about team wise off all of it but that's where it starts with guys like that that have that type of attitude and I think this 24 class I think you have more of them that are built that way than they have been more than like maybe the previous years you have some but I think this class in general is more of that type of mentality and that's kind of Brent Venable's mentality too we know that so maybe two years now getting his guys in there we're going to see and I am ready for it to happen and excited to see David Stone and Jaden Jackson in the fall yeah you know how those recruiting things work there's every year they kind of when they do the announcements when they sign you know chosen for their XYZ you really see that with this class like the entirety of it like you can go down the list naming names of guys that have that mentality of yeah they're highly recruited guys but they feel that they're better than what the rank uh rankers say they are that they are going to go win a National Championship at OU and they're not going to be satisfied until they do it and they probably won't even be satisfied then because you there's always something more you always have a first round pick in the NFL draft like there's just so many guys in this class with such a high set of goals and discipline that it's it's hard to not imagine this class turning out to be one of the best 's ever had hey hey real quick before you close it Jeremy one quick thing uh David Stone you're maybe both these guys you're you're gonna have a tough time blocking them one-onone okay that you just are teams are gonna have it they're that good on the on the defensive line and uh Danny stman probably loving jiren KCK these linebackers probably loving what's coming in here in the fall because it's gonna make their jobs a lot easier too yeah and uh you mentioned unsatisfied and before I even get to that and close this jayen Jackson is his own player as well I don't want him to get lost in this you know just as just the sidick as just the attach person uh jayen Jackson will hold his own in Norman Oklahoma but what I was going to say is unsatisfied is something that is in the best of all time Tiger Woods clearly the best but was never satisfied uh if you remember the British Open he had a goal to to not bogey hole like he was already winning by so many strokes but he still sets these goals he's not satisfied Michael Jordan always found motivation he was clearly the best these guys have that I I I I love everything about him uh but I did want to say that I don't want Jaden Jackson to be thought of as this this guy who's just along for the ride like Batman Robin type deal no and I wasn't ever trying to get it I know Jaden Jackson does get overshadowed a lot and I mean you look at his rating even he's a low four star uh you watch him play in the Polynesian Bowl how is he a low fourstar this is against very good competition he's again like David Stone went against this Elite competition on The Daily at IMG I mean you're going against some of the best offensive linemen in the country every single day at practice then you're playing top high school teams every single week that you have a game and jayen Jackson's always even though they're stone with him they go hand inand makes plays on his own and it's G to be a special Duo to watch it's going to be one that I really cannot see away how they are not getting a a significant amount of playing time by the end of the season uh in 2024 yeah and if they aren't guys and there's some struggle on the defensive side the fans are going to go ballistic because these are two guys not just we're high on everyone's high on and expect to see them play and again they proved it yesterday in the Polynesian Bowl where wherever these two guys go they win and they make a name uh for themselves and for the team they're playing on so kudos to jayen Jackson and David Stone David Stone named the defensive MVP and guys can't wait
