South Florida (USF) vs. #4 Alabama: Week 2

[Applause] welcome to Tuscaloosa Alabama where Legends are made and titles are won briyan Denny Stadium home of the Alabama Crimson Tide today we have one of those games that test your focus top 25 team against an unranked opponent can you take care of business as we'll see a squad from the AAC the South Port of HS taking on the sixth ranked team in the land the Alabama Crimson tie for EA Sports College football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one [Music] [Applause] [Music] up Alabama about to kick off to get things started and no chance at a return here they'll start this drive at their own 25 so the USF Bulls offense will take the first swing of the game and here's the man they rally around and he has earned that type of respect David you dang right you earn it by doing it and he's done it at such a high level everyone believes in this young man in Palmer there's a reason why you're right David he's been in the big moments and he's won the big games this guy delivers when the game is on the line and it's a great job executing the drag route you just bring the big fella across the formation wait for him to come open the quarterback does a good job seeing him finds him in the hole hits him perfect job and the Bulls want to move quickly give to the back and he'll get it up to the 38 it'll be a first down all right nothing flashy there he just did what it took to get the first down and first for the off this crowd trying to make life miserable for this [Applause] offense off the play fake on first down wants to throw might be looking to run that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there it's just so nice to have a QB under Center nowadays in football you can trust these guys you put so much on their plate and you tell them go get positive yards when it's there and a lot of these guys are such great athletes they do it with e a lot of urgency for this [Applause] offense hand off to the single running back and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push he just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and he can make yards for Here Comes this home crowd as a defense tries to get off the field on third down got it looking for a first and he's knocked down but not before moving the chain wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your offensive success and that's why teams drill third Downs so much in practice they go to the draw and this one will be stopped for no game and they try to sneak the draw play in there and try to show pass right away get it to the running back defense not full in the slightest nice job getting up field getting to the running back getting him on the ground got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 [Applause] and a decent gain there before the defense makes the Stop and R it's completely Chang the game like now it's 11 on 11 football the quarterback used to hand it off and stand there and watch the play now he's very much involved in the play he's running the football so much even when he's not he's making somebody go with him and cover him so the quarterback scrambling the quarterback running um has completely changed the way people play defense he get rid of it it's complete and this defense is a half a beat behind they just can't quite keep up they've got it down to the 21 there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver uh at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way in deciding who wins a pick here Brown will throw it he makes the connection I think really good wide receivers do a good job of making every route kind of look the same you can tell he this looked like a vertical route so if I'm a DB I'm bailing and all of a sudden he sits that hitch down nice job by the wide receiv receiver creating enough separation to create a positive game the Bulls want to crank the [Applause] tempo quick hand off pushes ahead for a pick up of one down to the [Applause] 13 [Applause] third they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and [Applause] goal they'll try to drive ahead on Third and short they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that back had absolutely nowhere to run the football actually is he counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on defense now on fourth down they'll settle for a field goal [Applause] try spit the upright it's good and that'll put the first points of the game on the board it's three to nothing I'll tell you this is not an easy place to play on the road especially at night time this crowd they get loud that's the way it's been so far but they have a nice drive to open it up they're able to execute they put themselves in field goal wrench knock it through the uprights they did exactly what they needed to do taking a 3 nothing lead here early on the road that's impressive [Applause] so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it [Applause] away he'll bring it back from inside his SP really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so Alabama's offense will try to get something started with their first possession and it won't be easy to throw the ball down the field today David because both of these teams have lock down Corners I mean these guys shut down half of the field playmaking cornerbacks that really can play manto man and locked down the best guys on the other side yeah After Burner coming ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds and that's why you have to have the Jet Sweep in your repertoire if you're this offense that receiver has tremendous speed he's so dangerous in the open field you saw it on that play they were backed up and then suddenly they weren't they've got it first and 10 now inside the [Applause] 50 from the gun the running back has it not a whole lot of room there three yards maybey second and seven I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that play but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game let those Big Fellas get laded after the three yard pickup they come to the line Second and seven give to the back a run up the middle is stuck for no game defense is about firing off the offensive guys and staying through gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you could tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to was now facing a third and long [Applause] dropping back it's milro he's got his man across the middle really nice job to convert that third down and they've got it at the 33 that's got to feel really good for this quarterback it's early in the game so these third Downs are big you're trying to get your offense into a rhythm and a flow nice job reading the defense and beautiful this Alabama offense is clicking they're set up with another first down leaves it with the running back a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three listen you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole will go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive gain making your situation really good on next down they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three he's looking to throw lets it fly deep downfield and a dangerous pass there almost through a pick in the end zone you've given up this drive and come down the field you had such an opportunity to get the pick and close the door and shut down the drive and not give up points that's a big missed opportunity for this defense Ball's at the 25 they're in field goal range but they love to convert this third and short in a sophomore season he's really learned to find that Running Room you've got to be loving what you're seeing from your off defense here on the opening drive of this game they're in a really nice Rhythm they've got real good balance going on right now and they've got the defense on their fields the tide with the first and 10 pulls it and fires to the left and he's able to shed one tackle and gets a pretty good pick up and that's why QBs love their tight ends so much right especially when they're athletic CU they make short throws turn two long games because of his ability after the catch is so unique and special he is dominant in this offense going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down running back searching for a hole snowed under after a pick up of two they'll mark it at the eight at the yd third boy they'd love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal he's going to look for a man on Third and short he steps out of bounds but it'll be enough to give him a first and goal he might have expected to see this DB up in his receiver's kitchen instead nice little Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good reys at seeing the holes in the zone knowing you're in zone knowing where to sit down how to make it an easy pitch and catch for the quarterback and that's what it was on third sh he pushes it forward all the way to the 2yd [Music] line second and goal for this offense tries again to get it in going right back to the well and this time he finds water gets it into the end zone for the touchdown and they just keep feeding it to their Workhorse back to open this game great job in the open field he's got tremendous Vision he can make people miss you saw all of that on display here in the opening drive [Applause] getting set for the point after the extra [Applause] point and the extra point is good and it's a four-point lead they put it in the end zone with a 12 Play scoring drive and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep [Applause] on the move from inside his SP he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 South pora ready to send the offense back onto the field here to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they' love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out in the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here yeah and I I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focus on execution and getting six points and the Bulls headed quickly to the line one running back in the back field and he has it you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs after picking up a couple it's second and [Applause] eight motion from the offense quick release by the QB they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game debb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down he'll pull it on the read they'll finally get him on the ground but not before he makes it to the 30 and gets a first down and here we go if you're an offense you got to get that ground gain going so you can have some balance and then you give it to your quarterback Palmer and let him make some plays down the field later on yeah exactly and know coming into this game this offense knew they were going to have to someway somehow at least establish a semblance of a running game for exactly what you just said you got to be able to use play action pass later in this game to get some explosive plays down the field and it's a play like that that we just saw which can help them get that going stopping the run is very high on every defensive coordinator's list making the team onedimensional nice job stuff in the run on that play right there they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 they'll go to to the ground finds a crease at the 20 they'll finally get him stopped at the one yard line what a run there what took everything on defense just get that guy down on the one yd line he is a monster D and if this offense Jess is going to keep doing that you better bring in reinforcements on that defensive line get some Big Boys cuz they're about to punch this thing in the end zone the Bulls have it in scoring position on first and goal slams ahead just hammer it with this running back again and he knowses his way into the end zone Precision blocking up front created the open Lane and the running back followed it beautifully yeah I it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the end zone what an unbelievable job blocking up front lining up to tack one more onto that [Applause] lead and the extra point gives him a three-point lead at 10 to7 they put together an 81 yd drive and they capped it off with a one yd punch about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown set to kick [Applause] here he comes from inside his own five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 the tied offense rolls onto the field how about that blocking up front in that running game last time as they just walked it down for a touchdown D and the big boys up front doing their job opening holes The Backs making play everything on the ground on that first drive work and we know that this is the idea identi this coaching staff wants for this team right they want to be the most physical team on the field let's see if they can keep it up solid pick up with four on first down it's second and six looking for space it's Hayes they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one but how fast did they get in there and make that tackle for a loss if you blinked you missed it nice job by the defense getting penetration everybody up near the line of scrimmage shooting the gaps quick getting in the back field getting the guy on the ground third down conversions always a huge stat and they've got a third and long from the 27 oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down this is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you've got to be able to make that play Alabama will bring the punt team on the field let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one no return coming he'll call for the fair catch South Florida has it back and the Bulls offense will return to the field that last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to change too much Reese they had a great Drive they got the touchdown everything working I would expect them to keep pushing this ball downhill and just imagine if they could put another touchdown on the board right here they could capture so much momentum in this game with back-to-back TDS tough way to start this drive now they'll try to fix it on second and 15 Brown wants to pass quickly out to the tight end they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover pick up the first I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job [Applause] formt on third down he drops to throw and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you can show your exotic looks you can get the pass rush going everybody in the back end expecting throw and that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth down and the Bulls will pun it away on fourth down [Applause] slips through the line they'll put a stop to that return as he gets it up to the 41 yd line here comes that Alabama offense boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah the last Drive nothing really could no rhythm really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit almost didn't connect last time let's see if they throw it again on second down hand off to the lone back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one they're trying to run the football there's just nowhere to go for the ball carrier inside he Tred to bounce it to the outside that linebacker way too fast he met him there and forced the tfl [Applause] they're facing a third [Applause] down looking to throw and the pass Falls incomplete and we are through one quarter both teams wanted to establish the run and they have done exactly that in the first quarter [Music] they've swapped into the field and we're ready to go in the second looks as if the tide will punt it away he's going to try to flip the field with this [Applause] one that thing was down for a while but the big bounce carried it into the end zone and it'll be a Touchback South Florida ready to send the offense back onto the field the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make the play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum the Bulls will hustle to the [Applause] line looking for room it's right he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and just nowhere to go for that Runner he had no choice that defense they were bringing it up front everybody winning their one-on ones and they completely had him surrounded and the running game has collapsed so far on this drive and now it's third down Brown will throw it not quite in Rhythm there incomplete third and long situation they try to go screen I think they were hoping it was going to to be a big Zone and they could get those offensive linemen down the field but the defense sniffed it out forcing the incompletion and the Bulls will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it [Applause] away running it back it's Bernard he'll get it up to about the 44 yd line before they slam the brakes on it the tied offense rolls onto the field that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass I think too dve it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and gone defense trying to keep this offense from getting a line on who to block now on First and 10 from the 35 [Applause] looking to move it through the air makes the catch it's prentis ripping off a good chunk inside the 25 and they're set up with a first down the evolution of the Alabama offense has always been built around what does the quarterback do best and this guy's doing a lot of things well and we've seen some sensational ones and to your point I like that Jaylen Herz really good runner they built it around his feet you know Bryce young really good passer two aong of aloa really good passer more about the passing game explosive passing play so they'll do whatever it takes to win oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack didn't get much on first down it's second and nine [Applause] going to the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and a great job by the linebacker you can tell starting to crowd the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimmage see it diagnos it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss they've got a ways to go on third down from the 24 as this defense tries to force him into a field goal try wants to throw it's mil and they'll miss the connection here on third down really nice third down sub defense there that time it's third and long they're expecting pass and they're mixing up their looks they're trying to change the picture pre- snap to post Snap to confuse the quarterback now forcing the incompletion setting up fourth now on fourth down here comes the field goal team the kicker will try to punch one through from 41 yds away it's good and the field goal ties it up here the second [Music] [Music] quar and we're all square as he set to kick it [Applause] away on the run from inside his zone five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 South Florida has it back and the Bulls offense will return to the field the give to the back may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets them out to the 25 yd line and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with his PS the Bulls racing to the line in the hurry up now the play fake unloads to the wide out complete to the right and they'll spotted at the 38 and that'll be plenty for the first down oh man did he turn that one loose and fired it into the teeth of the zone and you know as a quarterback Rees when you're throwing it to the perimeter of the field on these curl rout you've got to have some heat you've got to have armed talent to get that ball out quickly into the hands of your receiver before all those Defenders can get to it man this QB's got to C with the and he at the 41 brings up second [Applause] down got three on first down it's second and seven [Applause] Brown wants to pass looking to buy time and he scoots his way to the first down and then slides to avoid the hit yeah I think you're just seeing the experience this guy has right he's so poised and initially he's flushed out of the pocket nothing's open and he doesn't panic he's not throwing it away he's not sliding early he just knows where the defense isn't he's able to attack that space with his speed get a positive play looking for a physical attack from the gun and he's able to bounce off one tackle but still not a whole lot of running R you know it's so important for offense is to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down after the productive first down play it's second and six [Applause] gets it out fast and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage nice job defense always hear people talk about tackling the catch you saw it right there there was nowhere for that receiver to go once he had possession as a result no game better find the ear plugged here comes the no he backing this defense on third [Applause] down from the gun wants to pass it's caught downfield and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from getting the first down simple call excellent execution moves the sticks on third down these QBs and receivers man they run this route in practice thousands of times so it's nice to see them come out here and executed in game condition great job with the timing great job with the depth and the route nice work between those two with the catch it's Simmons now he's got it all the way down to the 21 yd line and they are threatening on first down hey who says hitch passes can't get big yards receiver catches it makes a guy Miss and goes and gets a first down and the Bulls in the hurry up leaves it with the back he rolls all the way down to the 5 yd line before they finally get him stopped first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quick and he's got a burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it and right now he's doing some damage on this defense they'll dial up the run on first and goal he's got it down to the one yd line right on the doorstep of Peter it's now [Applause] and we'll see if the off defense can punch it in on second and [Applause] goal barges ahead and he takes it to the house touchdown balls touchdown us another rushing touchdown that's now two on the game this offense thought they could come into this one running the ball being the more physical team and they look like it right now [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead for the extra point and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they go 83 yds on the drive and they capped it off with a Oney pun almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown number9 set Kick away he'll start the return inside his spot not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 here comes that Alabama offense caught in the back field it's Bernard they make the stop right there good pickup and still short of the first down I said don't never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards never [Music] can that last completion has him set up second and [Applause] short here's the handoff we've seen a ton of this tonight they just keep giving him the ball and he keeps running into brick walls not much running room again it's hard to run on a defense that comes off the ball like that and runs to the football like that good luck no holes anyway ball sitting right at the 30 it'll be third and short looking to throw for it and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense knocks it free and fourth down is coming up defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug the heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion the Crimson tie will bring the punt team on the field fair catch called for and made South Florida ready to send the offense back onto the field and David how they would love to stick it in the end zone one more time after that last drive and once you get the defense on their heels and you back them off a little bit you get a little bit of Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you dialed up on that last Drive ended up working out you're just looking at your play sheet everything you're picking is working let's see if they can pull it off again here motion trying to get the defense to show his hand catch in the middle it's single ter oh go and they'll do more than move the chains they'll move that thing more more than 30 yd down the field before he's finally stopped I know it's early in the game but defensively after that play you know you have to tackle the catch when this guy gets the ball in his hands he is so dangerous after the fact so it's okay for him to make catches just got to get him to the ground quickly [Applause] looks as if they didn't get it off in time it'll be a delay of game delay of game off there's a difference between being methodical and thorough and slow they were slow and they got the flag he leaves it with the back he's dropped behind the line of SC scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is the yards per rush they look at how many negative plays they can create cuz why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job creating the loss on first down line getting set on second down Brown will throw it fires to the wide out finds a man on the right and they get him down listen QBs and wide receivers now to be on the same you got to know when to throw that Cur rout it's got to be on time right when the wide receiver breaks the DB can't catch up nice job QB and wide receiver being on the same page getting some positive handles the Bulls moving quickly to the line off the boot looking for his man throws to the wide out he's got it and he won't be able to get in as the defense gets him down the one third down in short is exactly what you want an offense because you can run the football make the defense suck up but you can also throw it nice execution third and short Now set up in a first and goal situation and the Bulls are moving quickly down the field trying to bully their way in and he takes it in for the score touchdown blls and he's in for his third rushing touchdown you College fantasy football players that is what you want to see plus six plus six plus six let's [Music] go P unit on the field for the extra point [Applause] and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they capped it off with a one yd Pune ling up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive [Applause] kick and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 the tied offense rolls onto the field that last Drive fizzled out Jesse they had to punt it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes and just trying to solve the defensive riddle understanding what they're trying to do to you and attack him a lot of eyeballs on the quarterback on this play and that was able to freeze them for just that half second and that allowed the receiver on the Jet Sweep to use his speed and get to the outside they've got it at the 37 it's first and 10 give to the single back is that stiff arm even a human arm it it looks like some type of Steel budgeting device on his way to the first down if you're going to play Bama tough you're going to find out really early if you can handle the running game yeah they're going to check your chin I mean they're going to come in and they're going to give you a steady diet of it even when they've had great great quarterback play and spread the ball out it's still a physical principle they're going to make you stop the run and if you can't stop it it could be a long game got his man and he's brought down after a nice game that's a really nice job fcking that pass I don't know if another school has done as good a job as Alabama in recent years as bringing in top level Talent at the wide receiver position when you think of guys like Julio Jones Amari Cooper Jerry Judy Devonte Smith this guy looks like he could be on the field with all those guys too he's got speed he's got the ability to pluck the football out of the air what a big time weapon how nice as it could play quarterback with this guy in the offense they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the 10 today's game in football is about getting your speedsters in space why because you let them do the rest you get them the football quickly let them break tackles you see so many times them making plays after the catch so hard to stop [Applause] this offense needs a little something to feel good about going to halftime a chance to chip away here on first and goal he's looking to throw it they're setting up the screen and he'll H it in and take it to the endzone touchdown time and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like The Comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you you want want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this The Comebacks in full effect they'll try to attack one more on their score [Applause] and the extra point is good as they closed within a touchdown 2417 a very efficient five play scoring drive and they finish it off by connecting from 10 yds out about to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown he'll bring it out it's Alexis he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the Touchback South Florida has it back and the Bulls offense will return to the field they're going to open this drive with a pass not able to hook up there in complete it's now second [Applause] down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they'd throw it again Brown wants the pass quickly complete he saw man coverage and the idea just get it to my receiver as quickly as I can and let him work David see man and and see the cushion and see the guy backed up a little bit now I know I can get it to him right now and get a positive game Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down from the gun wants to pass got it in the middle it's inle t they'll pick up the first down as he gets it out to the 27 yd line David that is a great security blanket for a quarterback to have a tight end to make those conversions dang right find the big fella on Third and short Dependable clutch nice hands first down the Bulls come to the line with a fresh set of downs oh he had it right down the middle and it just squirted right through his fingers and he missed an opportunity for a nice play on first down [Applause] the incompletion brings us to Second and [Applause] 10 they keep attacking through the air and it'll be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep my job is to make sure that ball comes loose and I got to go through that guy use my shoulder pad drive my feet and really really be physical cuz if he bobbles it at all or as soon as his hand gets to the ball you can tell the difference when that body jerks forward and that ball starts to come loose and pop out and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break and the Bulls line up to pun it away he'll try to really get into this one he'll bring it back it's Bernard that Nifty return sets up the offense and negates some of the yardage on the punt here comes that Alabama offense Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one day we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different put together a drive like that I would do War of the same keep the pace keep it going back to throw it's milro fires to the tight end good pick up there they'll move the chains in their set up at the 41 a timeout is call as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half they'll put it in play from the 41 on first down he wants to throw and he dropped it just didn't look the thing all the way in well he did a good job getting to the middle of the field that's where the offense wanted to attack on that play it's just got to do a better job looking that football in buge formation for these [Applause] receivers he wants to throw here on second down grabbed over the middle it's brenis yeah and I tell you what when you stick these fast suckers in the slot they don't have to be de but you get those guys that are so Qui in the slot they they get great matchups and I can get the ball to them quick because they're such Dynamic right now passing game very effective on second down what about here on third from the gun wants to pass and this is going to be in complete on third down great job by the defense there they weren't surprised by that play call there on Third and short they were expecting pass they took everything away and forc the incompletion and for the the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal kicker and he's going to have to get into this football this is a 53 yd attempt between the uprights it's good well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with ease [Music] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer he'll bring it back from inside his SP nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half from the gun the running back looking for room got to be smart patient great vision uses all of that to get to the 29 at the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update gentlemen what else is new a spirited environment there in Tuscaloosa and if you thought that was a quick first half you'd be right on the money an offensive showcase yes but it's been those Dynamic running backs who have set the pace I'm curious to find out if his ground and pound approach is going to continue into the second half or if one of those defenses will actually show some pride and with that said let's send it back to the guys at Bryant Denny Stadium the Bulls will kick it away first and we'll start the second half on the move from inside is five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the tied offense rolls onto the field I imagine we'll see them go right back to work up top after how productive that passing game was in the first half and it's interesting if I'm the defense and I've got the lead they've had success throwing the football but we're winning I I don't know that this defense changes too much of what they've done in the first half I think they got to do a better job with pass rush they might want to change their coverages as well because they're probably at this point expecting this offense to have to keep throwing considering they did have Suess in the first Works ahead for a couple they'll stop him at the [Music] 27 they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 27 looking to throw it's milro he'll throw it can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard noos pass defense and now it's fourth down well you get the incompletion there on third down you still got a half a football basically to play do you trust your defense down one possession to get it back to give you a shot if you don't you've got to stay out there and you've got to go for this and you've got to dial up your best play to stay on the [Applause] field running it back it's Atkin he's brought down but a really solid effort to pick up every bit of yard keep could on the punt return South fla ready to send the offense back onto the field from the gun they'll try to impose their will cre good effort on that one to work his way up to the [Music] [Applause] 42 and the Bulls want to pick up the tempo [Applause] the play action fake unloads to the wide out 4 find a hole in that secondary they are finding soft spots in this defense he's got it down to the 25 nice strike big play in the passing games I tell you what find your mismatches find your advantages what you do well and do it again and then again and then we know how long we do it again keep attacking big play offense and it has them threatening now first and 10 from the 25 on the move it's right he's stopped after a one yd pickup at the 25 at the 25 yd brings up second down didn't get much on first down it's second and nine off the play fake finds his man it's right didn't pick up aot there moved it Forward just a few well it's important in this game this offense gets the running back involved out in the perimeter in space where we can do some damage that time they got it to him throwing the football picked up a couple yards but it gives the defense going to think of debb rising as the crow Gets behind this defense on third down Brown will throw it they're trying to get to it time running out and he goes down at the 34 when you're on defense and you get to play outside linebacker it's about as good as it gets right I get to rush the passer just like this and put him on the ground then I get to cover in space I get to move all over the place great job by the outside linebacker the most fun position to play in college football and here comes the field goal unit for the second time tonight looks as if this will be a 51 yd attempt splits the uprights [Applause] good that makes the score South Florence 27 out of [Applause] so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down here he comes from inside his own five makes a move just barely able to stop him he almost house that baby the nice return there that last line of coverage is the only thing that stopped him from scoring caught in the back field it's ball and that will go backwards a negative play in that defense on high alert that time you know I think that's a play the quarterback would like to have back I'm not sure that's exactly who the ball was intended for he had another open Target on the other side of the field that he just missed after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 to the air it's milro he got his hands on it but couldn't hold on to it what a time that would have been for their first pick of the game oh and on defense you just got to be able to finish that play that Defender had the football in his hands he's just got to catch it that should have been an interception they've already punted four times in this game and they're about to run the guy out there for a fifth time if they don't pick up the first down here trying to get to him takes a hit as he fires couldn't quite haul it in they all had their first pick here late in the game ah what a great play by the defense listen that's why he plays defense yes I get it I get the jokes defensive guys can't catch real well but the offense they caught a Big Time Break right there that could have been disaster on their side of the field could have been a big turnover that led to points and the ball comes to rest right there South Florida has it back in the Bulls offense will return to the field you want to talk about having a weapon to bail out a drive David that's why kickers are so important after that long field and listen important is a relative turn we need to make longer passes and get better gains so we don't have to kick long field goals Palmer again on offense and they've got the weapons to do that David they just got to be able to dial those plays up guys have to be able to make them oneon-one to make life easier on this kicker is so important to this T running back searching for a hole tackled after picking up the first down those little chunks keeping the CR out him defense just putting them in Easy situations chewing up four to six yards at a pop like that put you in a bad situation as a defensive coordinator what do I call either way priority number one you got to stop the one the Bulls come to the line in the hurry up used the play fake now to throw fires to the right he makes a catch he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down when you're throwing these comeback routs man the timing has got to be so good between the two of them because you know the ball is going to be the air a long time you can't throw it late it's going to get picked that time really nice job getting it out early and the receiver doing a nice job on his route so that the ball was right on him as soon as he turned [Applause] around Brown wants to pass throws to the tight end on target to the left first and he'll be taken down but he does have up for the first down there's a great example of the offensive coordinator and quarterback being on the exact same page the coordinator is anticipating man coverage the quarterback recognizes it and immediately he knows which receiver to go to to attack this [Applause] defense wide receiver shows motion they'll go to the Jet Sweep to try to get the edge here one step WRA Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the [Music] [Applause] ground [Applause] second so after the first down run here's second down [Applause] he's looking to throw grabbed in the middle it's single T that's a really good tackle there giving up some size and still making the play know I know it seems like an easy pitch and catch but for the tight end there that route potentially changes if it's man coverage so good job by him knowing it zone I'm just going to sit down this is basically like a check down right let's just take the easy pitch and catch and keep this drive coming on Third and long try to convert through the air makes a connection and a nice grab there big pick up down to the 35 yd line well offensively they knew they were going to have some matchups they could take advantage of in this one and all of a sudden this quarterback has now over 300 yds passing in the game defensively David he has got them on their heels and he's been showing you a little bit of everything he can throw it all over the field to all different receivers to his tight ends to his running backs really has the ability to spread it around and now over 300 yd still the quarterback bought as much time as he could but the defense got to him and sacked him there's been a little bit of a seesaw here the last two plays offense gets a chunk play and then the defense gets a sack great job by the defense there turning the page and coming up with the big one that last play the kind of thing that can mess up a really good drive it's second and 17 Brown will throw it fires to the wide out a strike downfield he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short quarterback and receiver on the same page there on the crow route nice job by the receiver finding the soft spot in zone and just settling down making that throw a whole bunch easy and the Bulls are in the hurry [Applause] up on Third and short they keep it on the ground here they've got it just outside the Red Zone they'll move the chains it's at the 21 and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs the Bulls have it with a first and 10 [Applause] they'll give it to him again they finally make the stop but the big run is plenty to move those sticks for the first down right away after picking up the first down they go right back to their playmaker at running back and I love the push they got up front getting a hat on a hat opening a huge hole for the and you become so hard to defend when you can run the football successfully on first down you're starting like that now what opens up play action now you're making me play pass and run this offense if they can create that run physicality now it opens up everything else maybe that stop shows this defense is tightening up especially in the Run game the offense frankly they've been able to do whatever they want to do they just handed the ball off this guy's having success left and right no serve no Moss get it to [Applause] yet they'll give it to the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple man that hurts because second down you got everything in front of you the whole Playbook open now you get a lost yardage play now it's third down now it puts those feet to the fire a little bit more now you better come up with something you really love in this area it's still third and [Applause] goal Brown wants to pass feeling some heat and the quarterback goes knocked down back at the 13 they'll tell you that somebody's always going to pop open but it didn't happen in time before they got the sack no it did not and you know what I'm going to remember this I'm going to remember zone defense they didn't really have an answer they weren't ready to get rid of the football quarterback hesitated I got to him and got him on the ground might be a good call later on in the game and they'll run the field goal unit back out there this kicker is already banged a couple [Applause] through KNE split to the uprights and puts three on the board and that will extend their lead even further so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather on the run from inside his zone five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 here comes that Alabama offense they are trailing by 10 here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout You Got a Hold serve at this point right you got to drive the field put some more points up on the board yeah they just scored you can answer that now and keep this thing close down and I think you're used to that as offense like football is so fastpaced now and you score so quickly it's not that big of a deal to get down 10 you keep being you keep being aggressive back to pass it's milro finds the tight end and they finally haul him down but not before the good catch and run that's a real good looking throw and I know at Alabama recently they've had a lot of different quarterbacks and they've had also had a lot of different guys calling plays but one thing that's never seen the waiver is how explosive the offense has been and the big reason is because of the efficient play they've had consistently year in year out at the quarterback position as well they recruited extremely well they coach these guys up and this is a guy who loves football loves the ex and O and you're seeing it translate onto the field right [Music] now back to the line after the incompletion second and 10 from the 37 couldn't connect on first down now back to the air fires to the big F and he might be known for one pits but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end so an example of a tight end doing a little unheralded work to set up a much better third down situation and I like the QB here Reese I like the decision where I understand let's get this football out let's get some positive yards and then get to third down and we can still have a better situation now because we got rid of the football and took the yards over there third and short like that on your own side of the field you're just looking for a quick hitter you're trying to get the ball out of your hand quickly but the timing completely off there for the offense and the ball Falls incomplete Alabama will bring the punt team on the field and these guys have been busy sixth pun of the [Applause] day and and the punt hits at the eight and goes into the end zone for the Touchback South Florida ready to send the offense back onto the field they'll run the RPO and Fire to the right tackled almost immediately they're well short of the first down we're trying to throw the wide receiver screen to pick up that first down but the defense just too much speed getting to the ball carry on that one and the Bulls want to move quickly [Applause] oh so close to paying off the tip really had it in his hands but it falls incomplete well this defense knew coming in they were going to see some RPO and they were going to see some quick game and nice job there taking the throw away from the quarterback better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down Brown will throw it and they fail to hook up on third down well in the first half this offense was up and down the field it seemed like everything they were dialing up was working and here we are in the third quarter and there's a very rare incompletion on their own end of the field maybe that's the play the defense needs now to spark some momentum the Bulls will putt this one [Applause] away he's got great speed this guy is a daring punt return man he's not going to settle for the fair catch a solid return gets a little bit of ground for the offense they'll start this drive with a pass and he can't escape and down he goes I love the defensive effort there they didn't get him right away they stayed after him he was scrambling going backwards they get the sack on the first play of the drive [Applause] that's the last thing you want as an offense a negative play a sack on first down they'll leave it with him hard running there and he didn't have a whole lot of operating room after the J and he stopped for a sh game third and this offense can ill afford to come up empty on this drive already trailing by multiple possessions on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm and third and long everybody is pinning their ears back and coming after the quarterback you try to throw screens behind those sometimes they're very successful but this time defense played it great and the play went nowhere looks as if the tide will putt it away three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the [Applause] ball bringing it back it's Atkins they'll get down and put a stop for the return at about the 28 yd Line south Florida has it back and the Bulls offense will return to the field they'll come out on this drive and Let It Rip but a little time lets it go go pulls it in it's Simmons and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play a really nice day from this quarterback over 350 yd passing now Jess he's had a plan all game long he just seems to find his best matchups and he's done an awesome job giving his guys opportunities to make plays and the Bulls want to crank the tempo Brown wants to pass he's got it gets enough for the first down but not sure they'll get another playoff here in the third quarter we've come to the end of the quarter and USF is on top three quarters are in the book time becomes a factor both in trying to hold the lead or cut into it as we take a look at the steps one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory they've got it at the 36 on First and 10 fed the play fake now to throw looking left incomplete and very lucky that one wasn't picked off and man could they have used that it'll be second down that play call is going to force a lot of people to scratch their heads because you've got the lead late why aren't you just running the ball when you throw you risk having interceptions like that right there that should have been picked couldn't make the connection on on first down now here on second he's looking to throw makes the catch it's Simmons all the way down to the 25 yd line they move the sticks it's first down well I tell you man this guy's been putting on a show all game long we've seen his decision making we've seen his athleticism because of him they've got this huge lead in the fourth quarter so why stop throwing it just keep it going when the Going's good [Applause] gives it to the back on the draw going to be a gain of about three down to the 21 at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist and he's saying which runs work the best for me in this game what can I lean on right here to make sure we win this one after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven [Applause] wide receiver now comes in motion trying to turn the corner on the Jet Sweep they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and that is how you stop the Jet Sweep if you're on defense you get penetration up front yeah they're going to try to outflank you but they can't do anything about it if you got dudes up front winning one on already well within field goal range wonder how how aggressive they'll be on Third and long from the [Applause] 22 Brown will throw it pressure coming he'll P it down and he couldn't find quite enough Running Room to reach the line the game there was just nowhere to go with the football for the quarterback throwing it so he tried to create he tried to extend the play with his legs just not able to get away from the defense and now we have fourth down number so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world it's good he could have hit a string right in the middle of the uprights there and that lead grows even bigger [Applause] so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away he'll start the return inside his SP not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the tied offense rolls onto the field they'll crank up this drive with the pass finds his big tight end he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense and in this situation late when you need two touchdowns to win the game everything's going to have to be downfield so I like the idea in this two-minute Drive throwing it that way let's keep it going keep our pedal to the medal here Alabama quickly back to the line [Applause] wide open on the move he has it on the Jet Sweep really nice stop there from this senior leader I love defenses that can game tackle how about the defense getting a lot of hats to the football that receiver is a fast dude but this defense they've got a lot of teams beat themselves they showed it right there ran the ball on first down let's see what they do on second looking to pass it's milro and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not Loos and third down is coming well the quarterback's throwing from the pocket he's trying to fit that football into a real small window down the middle of the field and the defender hit was able to jar the ball loose from the receiver great job if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up after that incompletion fourth and long now on your own side of the field you're trailing in the fourth quarter what's your go-to play call here in the passing game where is the matchup that you trust in to come up with a big one to give yourself a chance to stay alive and win this game fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way looking for a block it's Atkin return they're able to put stop to that return right at the 30 yd Line south Florida ready to send the offense back onto the field trying to start the drive with a pass receiver looks it in it's complete he's brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had it drawn up well give the defense credit on that one cuz they knew coming into this one that they were going to try to get this receiver the ball in a variety of ways they were ready for the screen there and they create a negative play and here comes the offense on second down give to the running back he picks up maybe a couple before he stopped right at the 30 yd line third [Music] down now this offense facing a third and long from their own 30 from the gun wants to pass finds his man a quick tackle may but he's got plenty for the first down he's been so locked in it seems like any pass called is a guaranteed junk play yeah and and winning late like this in the ball game keep trusting him keep spinning you know why because stats matter late in the game you want some postseason Awards keep chucking it keep getting those stats Brown wants to pass throws to the wide out can't quite make the connection there might have let him a little too much it's second down now on second down [Applause] caught behind the line it's Simmons and he'll be run out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage not a very productive play there Here Comes This Home crowd as a defense tries to get off the field on third down looking to throw and he needs a bunch pressure there and he gets rid of it and that is a frustrating possession this offense you wanted to run the football maybe take some time you did the opposite got in a bad situation threw the football sto the clock not how you manage a game late in the fourth quarter the Bulls decide to punt it away they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today another punt on the way to make sure those hammies and glutes all activated don't want any muscle PS to use everybody stays in their Lanes well enough and they stop him at the 31 yd line C in the back field it's apprentis and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there I think if you're the head coach at this point you're telling your offense doesn't matter what's happened up this point obviously things haven't gone our way but we have a chance to execute in a two-minute situation and give ourselves a chance to win let's go do it one play at a time kept it on the ground last time let's see if they go back to it on second [Applause] down to throw it's milro he's going for a big play downfield it's complete a huge pickup and this defense was flailing as he weaved his way and got down to the 26 I'll tell you you cannot count this team out because of who's playing quarterback when this guy's in the game game it's never over yeah they're trailing here in the fourth quarter but this dude can put up points quickly off the play fake on first down to throw he's got it gets out of bounds after the big game but they've got it first and goal and there's no quit in this team obviously they're trailing late in the game but they're trying to make it happen we've seen two big plays now backto back they're putting pressure on this defense after coming up with back-to- back explosive plays here they are first and [Applause] goal they'll try to get it in with the run and he'll be stuck got nothing line of scrimmage still in the and I can't tell you how much I love seeing Corners being willing to come up and tackle that is so huge for a defense you can't Olay block and create space you can't just hang out on the outside you got to go set that edge and conversely I can't tell you how much I hate it when receivers don't want to block you got to do a better job on the perimeter it's not going to be enough in this offense just to catch passes you got to go execute your assignment that corner should have been blocked and they should have gotten a bigger gain on that outside run and they'll try to bite a chunk out of this lead on Third and goal [Applause] from the gun wants to pass he makes the catch at the end zone touchdown Alabama so they get that score that they so desperately needed and now they've got a chance to pull this one out defense has got to give them a chance the defense needs to get the ball back to them quickly so they can March down the field and try and score and narrow the Gap again this offense they have The Playmakers to come back and win this football game they're going to need some help from the defense ling up to add another for the extra point and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they CA the drive with a foury touchdown pass the kickoff team takes the field to boot this one away kick [Music] one and he's going to bring it out not nearly as much as he'd hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 South Florida has it back and the Bulls offense will return to the field from the shotgun the inside K slams into the pile he'll get one to the 17 and this is a pressing time for this defense they've got to understand they're backed up a little bit they're going to run the football they don't want to make a mistake so I think this is the time I'm a little bit more aggressive I I got to get this football back to my offense because I'm trailing so I look for this defense to get a little bit aggressive leaves it with the back he found a hole got about five he's down at the 21 I think you run that play on single down knowing it's going to make Third Down Easy you're not trying to hit a home run you don't need the big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High success rate and the Bulls hit it quickly to the [Applause] line brown will throw it almost intercepted and what a momentum swing that could have been but they still force a fourth down I mean sometimes you overthink it sometimes running the football in third and short with the lead is not the worst thing in the world keep that clock ticking but now decided to go for it set that fourth down and this looks like a situation where you should put the never had a chance what coverage to get down there and knock him down inside the 10 here comes that Alabama offense this is like a gift to have starting field position like this Jesse you're absolutely touchdown Crimson TI and they add six more of the board with that trip from the house the quarterback's abilties to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the timing to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical David listen a lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest ready to try the point after is on for the extra [Applause] point and the extra point gives him a onepoint lead here in the fourth that's exactly what you want to do when you have that high from field position strike quickly and they did one play and they put it on the board about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 South Quida ready to send the offense back onto the field and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete and the quarterback gets hit again we already know this defense has gotten home to him multiple times in this game so here you are you're trailing in the game defense knows are going to throw it they're pinning their ears back you can't feel very confident right now if you're the play caller certainly if you're the quarterback that you're going to have time to throw Brown wants to pass not able to hook up the air incomplet incom third [Applause] down decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass fires to the big fella and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down they didn't quite get that route run deep enough to pick up the first down now they've got a fourth and short and I think everybody at home tends to yell at their television set why aren't you getting past the first down Mar why did you run your route short defense did a good job knowing where that was but now fourth down offense has to make a decision not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch the tied offense rolls onto the [Applause] field wide out in motion coming out on first down with the play fake and the quarterback is snowed under the defense just simply not fooled by the play action often times an offense you're hoping the Run f going to slow down those pass rushers but man man they had their ears pinned [Applause] back that sack gets this offense behind the chains it's second down he's looking to throw the short hand it's C they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks that's a good job by the Drager out there understanding it Zone coverage so instead of continuing to run across the field he settles down into an open spot making it easy for his quarterback passing game very effective on second down what about here on third it's a draw they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you know you got to be careful when you're running the draw play cuz you're hoping those defensive ends get way up the field thinking it's pass didn't happen that time and the defense was able to get a negative play the Crimson tie will bring the punt team on the field they'll look to pin him [Applause] deep he'll call for the fair catch here south Florida has it back and the Bulls offense will return to the field they've hit a bit of a lull here and they need to get things cranked up with this possession Jesse just haven't had a Rhythm these last couple of possessions but I'll tell you the best way to get back into one is to run the football establish yourselves up front the line of scrimmage and help keep these third Downs manageable now and the best news is your defense at least forced a pun of their own so now you can go answer with that good stop while this game is still close let's just go keep putting more points on the board and let's see less of the pun Brown will throw it going to try to pop one on the screen not a whole lot of room there on that screen passes it just never developed and I don't like the play call guys screen pass at this point of the game against the defense playing big zones prevent trying to keep the ball in front it's just not going to work you got to take shots offensively the Bulls will hustle to the line on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air it's caught finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down if you watch the stats and I know you do he's over 400 yd passing now yeah if they win this game he's getting a game ball there's no doubt about it this guy has been on fire from the very start of this football game he's just been throwing bullets all over the field the give to the tail back he'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make them onedimensional put him passing situations really good job by the defense picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll run it solid fundamentals on that tackle from this freshman third coming [Applause] big third down as the crowd Gets behind this defense from the gun wants to pass gets rid of it makes the grab it's Atkin put it right on him sweet PL good pick up and they'll move the chains with the first down well we know this guy is special and because of that his quarterback is looking to him on critical down and distances there on that third down there was no question it wouldn't have mattered if he was single covered double covered man Zone that's where he was going with it and the Big Time playmaker outside picks up the first off play action on first down he lets it Fly he's going to touchdown South Florida and and they grab the advantage taking the lead here in the fourth number yeah had a nice job in the fourth quarter making plays and a nice job being on the same page QB receiver you could tell he broke with the football he caught it in stride gets into the end zone nice pitch and catch right there nice Chemistry by the QB and wide receiver they'll line up to go for two fast motion from the offense quick touch pass to the receiver couldn't make his way in the two-point conversion fails and we still have a five-point game here in the fourth almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll bring it back from inside to spot not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 here comes that Alabama offense they hope to be able to cash in on this drive David after having to punt it last time yeah and I think this offense needs to start it with the first play you going to be successful and productive on that first play and it get you in less predictable situations No Doubt out to don't you just feel like there's a little bit more sense of urgency on this drive it just feels like they've got to be able to put some points up on the board second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning got it in the middle it's w and he's got enough for the first down it'll be at the 35 we've reached a two-minute warning and the defense needs to come up with a stop to close this thing out ball is at the 3 five it's first and 10 dropping back it's milr quickly to the tight end they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down they pick up the first down on the drag route I know that seems like a simple route but it's actually a lot more complex than what it looks like because that route changes based on whether it's manner Zone if it's man coverage he's flying across the field if it's Zone he's got to sit down over the ball and a soft spot giving his quarterback a place to go with it nice job and more yards after contact touchdown B they move on top here in the four what a great job by this off listen I judge offenses by what they do in the clutch in those big moments right before the half in the fourth quarter late in the game just like right here you need a score you got to go take the lead they do everything they can now defense you're up I need you to get me a stop [Applause] they're going to go for two here and try to extend that lead to a field goal here's the snap looking to throw incomplete on the two-point try and it tried to push this lead out to a field goal they'll have to settle for holding a one-point lead lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive set to kick this on the move from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 South for ready to send the offense back onto the field he'll start this drive firing tagged in the middle it's Ain that one could really put this drive into high gear as they have a first down at the 37 this is just unreal I mean just continues to stack up numbers now almost to 500 yd on the day most people can't do that on air he has been hitting his wide receivers left and right putting up huge [Applause] yards they'll throw it on first down unloads it left got a wide open receiver he got loose almost ped finally dragged down at the 32 quick timeout by the defense there trying to make sure everyone has the same [Applause] call they'll run it from the gun just a solid stop by this sophomore they immediately call timeout trying to preserve every second they can to try to rally here late got three on first down it's second and seven takes the hand off it's right he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple timeout is called and it's the defense wanting to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big down on Third and long trying to have a big completion here got his man to the left and wisely gets out of bounds to stop the they've got the first down now in plus territory and a chance to save themselves here's the defense on that last play it's a two-minute situation you got the guy making the catch in the middle of the field you've got to tackle him in bounds and keep this clock moving somehow they were able to let him get outside and stop the clock that just can't happen Relentless tough running gets it down to the four the defense calls the timeout and that's their last one of the half keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing line he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two the offense gets a quick timeout at this point every second is precious if they can pay off this third and goal opportunity man oh man those collars start getting a little no tied across the way touchdown USF and in the final moments they've taken the lead really good execution by this offense late in the game under a minute score to take the lead it's what you draw up it's what you dream about but now my defense has to go on the field and get me one more stop how about this a two-point conversion coming Brown wants the pass and he's got it for the two-point conversion they mared 78 yds down the field and finish the deal with the short touchdown run from the two now that they have the lead lead this kickoff unit has to stay in their Lane create some field position and hand it over to the defense here he comes from inside his own five couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 the tied offense rolls onto the field and they're going to have to fight this defense and they're also up against it with time Jesse yeah no doubt Rees and this quarterback now he's going to have to show off his Poise David they practice these late game situations but how is this guy going to respond and I got a little bit of time to work with here so I watch the defense and if they're going to drop back and play real conservative like they tend to do late in the game let's get a few shots over the middle first before we have to take that deep shot they've got to move quickly here still a chance but they've got to force the ball down the field coming after him catch in the middle it's Hayes and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain well I know it's early in the drive and you're just trying to get completions get the drive going but this is 2 minutes and you're trailing I mean you got to take some shots down the field and be a little bit more aggressive put some pressure on this defense got to get everybody lined up quickly time winding away and they've got to push the ball down the field and oh no he he spikes the ball on fourth down did he think he had another down they'll lose the football [Applause] down of possession here in the fourth and they'll need to convert on this fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down he's going up top here late in the game and he makes the catch up the tag and they fight him to The Bitter End all the way down to putting some more numbers in the stat column but they'll come up a little short as time expires [Applause] tonight
