welcome everyone to Tempe Arizona and Mountain America Stadium home to the Arizona State sundevils where Sparky and his gang have been sharpening those pitch Forks in anticipation of this one what we have in store for you today a showdown between a couple of Pack 12 Rivals as we'll see the California Golden Bears taking on a team looking for its first win the Arizona State sundevils but to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to Tee It Up The Golden Bears will kick it away first here's the return from inside is 10 he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 the sunel offense will have the first possession of the game and as the game evolves into to an aerial circus sometimes you find a superstar running back like this guy and when you got this guy you ride this guy you give him the ball you run the football you find ways to continue to feed him cuz he just gets stronger and better as the game goes down went to the running game on first down now second down he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple now they'll face third and four in their first possession of the game from the gun wants to pass and the throw out to the sideline good for a few and the sundevils will putt this one away he's going to try to flip the field with this one gets the first one of the day off and hoping he's not as busy as he was in that loss last week when he kicked it four times the Golden Bears offense has its first opportunity of the day here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys he's loose inside the 30 inside the T and you'll Race it to the house touchdown Golden Bear number man this guy is such a weapon because he's so dangerous if he gets into the second level great vision and then to shows you the speed just straight Wheels erasing angles a lot of times when you're chasing guys that are so fast like this you're like I got them I got them no I do not what a big long touchdown run pad those stats young fell now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing they couldn't draw up a drive better than that one just gashed him for the big play in the running game one snap one touchdown from inside the 10 here he comes just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field takes a hand off it's scattero low man wins and he just smashed him good blocking good running pick up of six out to the 30 the give to the back hard running there finds his way for three out to the 33 will they keep it on the ground again here on third down third they'll try to power their way ahead and he's down at the 41 that's a first down the Sun Devils come to the line with a new set of downs and that's a first down power football with the run and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine got a little work done on first down now back to the line hand off from the shotgun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple here they come facing third and long from the 40 thir from the gun wants to pass fires to the wide out how about getting the foot down on that throw for the big completion and the sundevils are on the move and first out of the gun they'll run it inside and he does a really nice job finding open space and making a good game before the stop is made up on the move the sundevils get it past the sticks from the 33 it's first and 10 first to the ground with the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one the loss yardage leaves him with second and 11 he's looking to throw nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away they'll snap it for the 10th time on this drive but they need a chunk on Third and long all kinds of room to throw that one in there touchdown sundevils hauled it in and just kept right on running to the Hallelujah land they just took the air out of that thing that might be an understatement they took the ball away and just wor down just grinded away at that defense and took a lot of time off the clock in the process as well I'm impressed with the physic ality up front of this offense cuz that's where it all starts if you're going to March the ball down the field like they just did you've got to be dominating in the trenches and they are doing that in this game right now and he added the extra point 76 yds on the drive for the touchdown and the final 34 yds covered by that touchdown pass on theb looking for an alley from inside his own 10 he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Cal offense is headed back onto the field after standing on the sideline and watching that long touchdown Drive they really need to put something together to give their defense a rest and that's a real thing man like you played a lot of plays you get worn out you need a chance to go decompress on the sideline get some oxygen Palmer now it's on this offense yeah this is the definition of complimentary football cuz it's a two-prong problem you've got to score points and answer you also got to take your time and give your defense an opportunity to get their win and the Golden Bears in the hurry up third com to throw it's Rogers they're working that left side and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs defense a little too jumpy there and they got into the neutral zone to defense defense defense had them backed up and then they're in the neutral zone and the offense will say thank you very much they want to throw it find his man down the middle good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch at the 43 yd L that's a first down for the off to the air on first down he's right on target they stop him almost immediately short gain there still a little ground cover pick up the first takes the hand off it's a a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior third and short coming here right from the Midfield strike makes the grab smashes through they've got got it inside the 40 at the 39 as they pick up the first down that's tough on the defense there third down you're in zone coverage everybody's watching the quarterback and you're trying to make a break on the ball but he just got it out of his hands too quickly and the throw was too accurate really nothing you can do there and it's now a fresh set of end moving quickly trying to Rattle the D it's a draw and he's swallowed up at the line of scrimmage by the big defensive tackle they're trying to eat up some clock here ninth play of the drive it's third and six from the gun wants to pass and the misconnection on third down the Golden Bears line up to punt it away he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep and the punt hits ground at the two and goes into the end zone he just missed pinning them right in the shadow of the goal post it'll come out to the [Applause] 20 he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call is hold amazing how many times an offensive holding penalty will stall a drive we'll see if the offense can overcome it from the gun they'll try the middle several Defenders get an assist on that tackle his offense set up with a second and short they'll Run play action Wiggles free feeling some heat and the defense is there he got away for a second but not for long as they knock him down for a loss thir and you don't want to see this trend continue last week he was sacked four times the offensive line This offense as a whole needs to get in better situations get rid of the football faster and not keep getting their quarterback hit not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their [Applause] 20 that's the end of the first both teams wanted to establish the run and they have done exactly that in the first quarter we've got a good one going here and looking forward to keep those vibes rolling here in the second on Third and long doesn't need to take the check down and the ball comes out what a disastrous play defense covering it up and not letting the offense get it back it's a turnover and that is exactly how you draw it up you get to the quarterback but you get the football out you hit him you try to rake it out great job by the defense getting the sack getting the fumble and the offense is out on the field with a first and goal looking for a man it's Rogers it's caught he's all the way down to the 2yd line just spectacular execution there and after that first down Gasher they're close to the end zone second and goal coming and it's a touchdown it is also a play in which there is a flag on the field let's see what the call is so they'll decline the penalty pleased with the results of that last play P unit on the field ex point and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they got the ball in great fi field position and Bam Bam two plays and into the end [Music] zone he'll bring it back from inside is five able to find enough room to get it out across the 25 he's brought down at the 26 on first down here comes this offense going to run it it's scbo po through he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the six for a first down first down for the off looking to move it through the air unloads to the wide out and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down they'll line up for a second down play they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 here on third down from the gun once to pass throws to the wide out he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete and the sundevils send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he'll aim it toward the sideline to try to make it tough on the return team Cal gets it back the sturdy Golden Bear offense on its way to the field boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive every in Rhythm moved the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right he's going to let one fly down the middle and it falls incomplete and the offense is lucky to have it Defender right there almost headed in his [Applause] gra it's a draw drag down after a pick up of five out to the 35 and the Golden Bears Moving quickly to the line looking to pass it's Rogers pocket starts to collapse going to try to get it himself Nifty little Scamper on this one enough for the first down and he slides in safely nice job nice way to end that play for the QB he does a really good job scrambling getting the first down and getting down because defensively I'm trying to get a lick anytime I can hit the quarterback that is a win the incompletion brings up a second down the give to the back he locked up and held on to bring him down let's see what they find in the playbook for third and long from the 43 from the gun wants to pass they were trying to work the outside there he played it perfectly almost got the pick instead it'll be fourth down the Golden Bears will call on their punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark out of the shotgun they go to the ground running hard and getting six yds out to the 26 he's the sixy pick up on first down leaves him with second and four he'll do it himself that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there ball sitting right at the 30 it'll be third and short a little too anxious along that offensive line that'll be a false start false start off the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty he'll try to pop the draw he's able to fight his way for a couple of yards but it'll be fourth down and three the sundevils will line up to punt it [Applause] away he'll bring it back it's Hunter they'll put a stop to that return at about the 37 yd line first down here for the offense from the gun running back gets to give not much working there it'll be second and nine quick Tempo here for the offense they go to the ground nice move to keep moving and he runs through one tackle and picks up a fe no huddle here for the offense bully ball on Third and short he's got first down yardage across the 50 they'll mark it at the 49 and the Golden Bears racing to the line in the hurry up nice job by this offense converting the third down listen third and short they know you're going to a shot toward the end zone and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score wonder if they'll throw it again again after the incompletion second and 10 from the 49 looking to throw it's Rogers that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it wasn't knock free for a fumble it'll be third down from the gun wants to pass quickly complete he's brought down but there's a flag on the play let's see if it stands R the pass defense just an ill advised play by the defender to make contact with the quarterback after the throw and it cost his team from the shotgun now here's an inside G and he's able to bounce off one tackle for a solid pickup and the entire Playbook is wide open on second and short like this and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second in inches I and he'll H it in take it to the end zone touchdown cow that touchdown puts him up by at least two scores too early to say it's over probably but boy it's starting to feel that way it might not be over but you're in trouble and you better find some answers really really quickly this team is putting everything together and right now you got nothing going come on give me [Music] something winding up to add another on for the extra [Applause] point and with the extra point theyve pushed the lead out a little further we check in with Kevin Connors what's going on Kevin a bit of an under the radar game this week guys but take a look at this Georgia state is in front they've responded well to all the off the field chatter this week but they still have to finish the job and that is no sure thing right now they're up by seven over rice looking to go up top on first down we've got our eye on this one and everything else going on throughout the day guys thanks for the update on that one Kevin let us know when it goes final he wants to throw here on second down complete to the right and he's got enough for the first down it'll be at the 35 here's his offense with a fresh set of downs they'll throw it on first down the short hands it's Smith they stop it just short of the first down but it will be second and inches coming up less than a yard to go to pick up the first down nice move to pick up yardage they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down and the sundevils are moving quickly down the field they'll throw it on first down fires to the big fella Quick Step and goal really putting together a threat now they get the first hits at the 37 the Sun Devils come to the line with a fresh set of downs off the play fake on first down wants to throw finds his tight end and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up we've made our way to the two-minute warning and now they'll try to at least cut a little something off of this lead before the break receiver looks it in it's complete he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out they'll snap it from the 25 here on first down looking to throw it again and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete this offense has a second down play he's looking to throw and it'll be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep this drive was clicking along but after a couple of misfires threatening to stall out on Third and 10 and it's incomplete despite some serious arm strength shown there they'll try to get something out of this drive and kick the field goal here on fourth down this is not a straight on Kick a 42 y from the right hatch kick is good the offense has three points to show for the drive and three more on the board and this kicker is starting to get a reputation starting off the season has it missed yet nice to have a guy that you can really really defend on after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back he was looking for more Running Room but not to be found as he stopped at the 23 the Cal offense is headed back onto the field looking to throw it's Rogers finds a tight end nice quick throw there it's so important for quarterbacks to be able to find the Rhythm and to be comfortable and confident you want to just get the ball out quickly make it an accurate and easy throw and you could tell that these two guys they rep that play in practice all the time and it's now showing up here on game the offense will have to use it's first time out of the half they are dialed in on this drive a couple of Chunk plays and now they'll snap it on first down makes the grab well this offense n coming into this game they wanted to try to attack the middle of the field in the passing game and they're able to execute the end route there pass is incomplete but there is a flag beside the quarterback and this might ring defense [Applause] that was right on the borderline you want to make that quarterback feel you but the official thought it was a little too much the roughing the passer penalty fires deep toward the end zone and incomplete on the Deep ball second down coming up he's looking to throw quickly to the tight end and that is good versatility there and a big hit from the backer in pass coverage offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play call and everyone on the same page here they'll try to get the first through the air got his man quickly they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about personal fou the defense you just can't hit the quarterback like that the defender got caught red-handed looking for a man it's Rogers and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball and the defense stop him again on second and goal he's looking to throw pulls it in in the end zone touchdown Golden Bear no mid-season do for these guys as they push out the lead in week six one of the areas they really focused on with this receiver in the off season was we need you to make more plays for us in the end zone when we're taking shots we need to be able to step up and make tough catches David what a grab right there and I think a lot of that has to do with trusting your guy knowing where he's going to be knowing when he's going to sit down when he's not so being on the same page and then having a guy that can go get it just when the ball is near him he's going to make the play just like he did right there for six points and with the extra point they're on top by 18 they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering on the run from inside of zone five and the returner goes down Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field they're going to throw it to start the drive finds his man it's Smith they find themselves in a pretty deep hole here but maybe a chance to grab a little momentum and regroup at halftime yeah a big chance like this is this is an opportunity this is the biggest opportunity in front of them in the game right now you got to get some points on the board you got to create something positive Jesse there hasn't been a whole lot to be positive about in the first half if I'm playing quarterback I'm locating my go-to guy receiver who can I count on one-on-one to go and make me a play maybe even one on two who can go up catch the ball get us some yards and get us some points [Music] and the sundevils will line up to kickoff and start the second half he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 and he'll be brought down after a solid effort on that return Cal gets it back the sturdy Golden Bear offense on its way to the field if it's working why change it and that running game was working in the first half I imagine we'll see a lot more of it here in the third quarter you just know the offense line was telling their coordinator put this on us let us continue to go out there push these guys around we can put this game on our back and end this thing by running the ball and this is a manhood question for this defense like as a defensive lineman and you're pounding the rock pounding the rock like I got to physically rise to this challenge this defense has to play more inspired and More Physical in the second half and they got him he'll get him down for the sack oh that's a missed opportunity you know the quarterback was excited he saw man coverage he thought he was going to have an opportunity to come up with a big play but up front they could not protect him while [Music] in first down sack pushes it back now it's second down it'll be a draw at the 40 there he goes and how much Running Room have they been able to find on the ground man are they piling up some guardy rushing stats the Golden Bears have their offense in high gear they'll put the tight end in motion L to throw on first down off the play fake good job to avoid the negative play and just get rid of that thing let's see if they go back to the air after the incompletion second and 10 from the 48th now they'll run the draw and he's tackled but there's also a flag on the field let's see what the call is so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty offense gets set for second down wants to throw it's Rogers he's got his man they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one fires to the wide out PS it in they are on the move as they pick up the first down they'll spot it at the 28 first from the gun the G looking for room strong run picks up six down to the 22 yd line got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four he's looking to throw good timing on the quick out he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense and that's a first down they'll give it to the back touch down cow and the punishment has been extended wow this offense they have a lot of faith in this running back knowing if they get down into this area of the field he can get it done and he can answer the Bell two rushing touchdowns already for this [Music] offense lining up for the pat for the extra point and the extra point splits the upright and they're up 35-10 and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Connor's in the studio guys let's get get you up to speed on what's going down in this fun college football game today Coastal Carolina is getting dominated today and friends the folks in Conway deserve better than this no excuse ever for this kind of a clunker they're trailing by 21 to Old Dominion we'll Circle back if anything big happens you need to know about and how about that one Kevin will be keeping an eye on everything going on elsewhere on second down he's looking down downfield complete downfield the offense sets up chop at the 46 on first down first he wants to throw catch in the middle it's mlan stop is made at the 36 but he picked up 10 on that one and has a fresh set of BS another first hand off to the lone back moves It Forward just a bit a pick up of one to the 35 man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he's looking to throw that's caught it's Smith and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there passing game very effective on second down what about here on third from the gun wants to pass and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up and for the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal kicker knocked it right through showing that big range from 48 yds out and this guy has been a machine all season long he is absolutely automatic you know you're getting three points when this guy js on the field [Music] so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 the Cal offense is headed back onto the field looking for a crease it's O gets the nose of the ball to the 25 give him one didn't get much on first down it's second and nine up leaves it with the running back crosses the 30 to the 31 and a 6yd pickup third down after the run third coming dropping back it's Rogers the quick out he steps out of bounds but he's got enough for a first down personal foul ring the pass defense an ill advised play by that Defender as he makes contact with the quarterback well after the throw and it'll cost his defense he'll come out throwing on first down caught in the back field it's a didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few now on second down after the short completion second down com they'll go to the [Applause] ground a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop now on third down for this offense trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here they've got it inside the 40 at the 39 as they pick up the first down good enough for a first down used the play fake now to throw and the heat gets home they knock him down back at the 45 y on the BR up [Music] [Music] down line getting set on second down [Music] [Applause] and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches in a chance to show off their hands in the passing game one more quarter to go and it looks as if we are ready to play the first down sack pushes the ball back for this long second down to the air it's Rogers looking left makes the grab and they're able to get him on the ground they've worked it down to the 30 this defense Standing Tall trying to force a field goal try they'll try to pick up the first through the air fighting off the defender and the completion gives him a fresh set of downs and keeps this drive moving and the Golden Bears are moving quickly down the field quickly out to the tight end they'll finally put the brakes on him at the three a big throw catch and run on that one well I tell you man this guy's been putting on a show all game long we've seen his decision making we've seen his athleticism because of him they've got this huge lead in the fourth quarter so why stop throwing it just keep it going when the Going's good the Golden Bears will try to put one on the board on first and goal they'll try to run it in touchdown Golden Bears and the Ping has started boy do they need that score gave them a little cushion as they trying to put a stop to this two game slide if you want to know how to reach this guy just send his mail to the end zone that's where he lives he definitely is today and I think the defense has to be getting a little sick and tired of the same guy beating him time and time again ready to try the point after exra point the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown 42 Arizona State 13 and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark [Music] finds his man it's scattero and he's down right there picked up a few but still some work to do to get a first down on second down he'll let it fly fires to the tight end and an absolutely Fearless tackle giving up size still got him on the turn third down coming up on Third and short they'll try to pick it up with the pass third oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth [Applause] down running with power showing off the arm and he's tripped up but not before picking up the first down the sundevils come to the line with a new set of downs movement on the offensive line that's going to be a false start and they'll walk it back false start the official offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty he's looking to throw moves around to clear up the vision he's going to be able to pick up a few yards before the slide and now on second down for this offense he's looking to throw he makes the connection he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down Y Line brings up third down he's looking to throw on Third and short working that left side now and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup now they'll line it up from the 44 on First and 10 he's going to pass got his man on the right and they explode on that one and they've got it down to the 22 this offense is like running a Perfection drill in practice against air chunk play after chunk play pass rush coming after the quarterback and they get him at the 32 and the defense has given up some plays some passing yards on this drive you want to stop that nice job rushing the quarterback making him feel a little bit of pressure and getting him on the ground and now getting him behind the sticks this drive facing a little adversity now a 10yd loss leaves him with second and and 20 he's looking to throw he got his hands on it but couldn't hold on to it what a time that would have been for their first pick of the game they'll snap it for the 10th time on this drive but they need a chunk on Third and long and the defense picks up a sack getting the quarterback down at the 44 and the defense just gets their fourth sack of the day and guess what this offensive line they gave up four last week too so you need some consistency up front make sure you protect that QB that can make those big plays for [Applause] you down by multiple possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down he's going to let one fly down the middle it's complete well they just drained all the suspense out of the fourth down conversion moving the chain d he's been a matchup problem all season long defenses just don't know how to solve the puzzle and with that last catch over 500 yds receiving now on the year for him the explosive play set the table now they got to serve the feast they're going to run it they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and the D to KN him on second and goal brings up second and [Applause] goal and he rolls into the house touchdown Arizona State yeah and listen that that is awesome to see the guys continue to fight continue to keep competing because this game is over like we don't need to fool y'all we're not trying to get y'all to stick around and improve ratings like the game's over but you're continuing to fight get powered in for the touchdown and show your isid that we're going to always fight no matter what the score is getting set for the point after right down the boulevard let's go to the studio now and check in with Kevin Connors Kevin what do you got all right guys a little update on what else is happening in college football this weekend Arkansas is getting its clock clean today that crowd was calling the hogs in the pregame but they're saying some other things right now they're trailing by 15 team to Tennessee we'll Circle back if anything big happens in this college football match up oh and how about that I know Kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye on it for us second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick nice solid form tackle from this sophomore we reached the two-minute warning and this offense we'll be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away he'll come through on third down as he's got enough and they'll mark it at the 23 first down 10 yd to go from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down that's a first down for the offense he'll pull it on the read we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up you know there's no real reason to panic but if you think about it when does panicking ever really help but certainly this was a bitterly disappointing outcome and you can look at a lot of different statistics and I know we tend to over complicate College football these days but guys at the end of the day it comes down to two very simple things you can't turn the ball over and you can't have penalties you do those things David and it'll beat you every time that's the difference between winning and losing it's the small things but find those things that you need to improve on keep working on them keep developing those things you do well dude let's do those let's do more of those things more consistently that's going to do it for us from here for Jesse Palmer
