the Los Angeles Coliseum a place traveler calls home in the crowd loves to fight on when supporting the USC Trojans little gets the blood boiling white like a rivalry game barbs shots trash talk things that go on throughout the week will now all be settled on this field as we'll see a squad from the Pack 12 the Stanford Cardinal facing off with another team from the Pack 12 the USC Trojans for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis David poan Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it [Music] going and the Trojans will kick it away to start us off on the right from inside his own five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 so the Stanford Cardinal offense will take the field for the first possession of the day and the adrenaline is pumping on overdrive in games like this guys and it's crucial to get your emotions under control no doubt in rivalry games you've got to limit the mental errors and you've got to limit the penalties cuz those will kill you B and you got to come out under control it means so much we know that the fans are all talking about it but it's just football from the gun running back gets to give fighting off the defender he picks up maybe a couple before he stopped right at the 30 yard line This Crowd full throat splitting the eard drums and letting him know it's going to be a long day and they did not let him reach the line to gain it'll bring up a decision here fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way running it back it's Branch that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yardage you can and help out the offense so the USC Trojans offense will go to work for the first time today and a big key as this game unfolds is just how aggressive will he be throwing the football at a lock down corner like that yeah and when you're an elite quarterback you think you can do whatever you want to do and you think you can make the right decisions I'm interested to see how much he'll test that quarterback on the other side you know there's a saying there's no defense for a perfect pass but he's got to be extra careful and sharp when he's throwing that guy's away snagged in the middle it's Branch really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down he's going to pass and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback well the offense trying to stay aggressive right you just came up with a huge play and right away you go back to another pass but you got to do a better job protecting your quarterback can't give up a sack there that sack gets this offense behind the chains it's second down out of the gun the give to the back that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there they've got a good chunk of ground to cover on Third and long from the 41 throws for the tight end complete downfield and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 nice strike big play in the passing games tell you what find your mismatches find your advantages what you do well and do it again and then again and then we know how don't we do it again keep [Music] attacking from the gun give on the inside and they'll bring him to the ground after a short gain tried to pound it on first down now back to the line from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole defense holds their ground pick up of a yard it's at the 26 on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air catch in the middle it's four they're able to keep him out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the two after the big play in the passing gamec fast motion from the offense quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver and they will score touchdown Southern cow [Applause] [Applause] lining up for the [Applause] Pat and the extra point is good and it's 7 nothing they took it 71 yards down the field and it was finished off with a two- yd touchdown talk Z he'll start the return inside his five he found some really good Running Room on that one and just about got loose as it is good return to set up the drive receiver going for the edge on the Jet Sweep not much working there it'll be second and nine stuck with a running game on first down now here they come again to the air it's Daniels he's got his man makes the stop at the 49 but not before he gets him plus territory gets 15 and a first down he wants to throw quick strike complete they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about personal foul R the pass def so the offense accepts the roughing the passer penalty and they get a new set of downs quarterback flips INE quickly to the receiver hits him with a stiff arm he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense wide receiver now comes in motion quick pass on the jet motion he's brought down but there's a flag on the play let's see if it stands holding penalties the ultimate Drive killer we'll see if it cost this offense here looking to throw tip ball put it up for a gron I thought he had it but somehow it slithered through his fingers touch pass on the right well in that down in distance you're probably expecting him to throw it way down the field to get the first instead they go push pass and they did catch the defense off guard and even though that was a big explosive play David they still didn't have enough yards to get it well it catch me off guard is relative that's what you would say the offensive player I would say listen we're playing a little bit deeper cuz we're not going to give up a first down we react to the short stuff and obviously that's a quick easy pass from the offense rally up make the play Live to fight another day that's one the kicker would like to have back that's a kick he should be making in and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field man what a drive last time for the touchdown that passing attack was Lethal David yeah and you know you hear all these stupid commentators like me and Jesse talking about create balance you know run and pass no when you throw that good spin the ball around so the defense has to find a way to affect the quarterback on this drive because last drive he had way too much com the off offals offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty to the air it's Moss looking for a deep man and it's incomplete after taking a shot on second down they're staring at third I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County on Third and long you'll need to push it downfield and he can't hold on to the ball at the end of this big game oh look look like the offense was able to recover it so after reviewing the undisputable video evidence the replay booth has decided to overturn the call they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter he's looking for an open man on second down catch in the middle it's Hudson they make the Stop and that's how the first quarter will left as we head to the quarter break it is USC holding the lead and we've come to the end of the first as we take a moment to check out the stats so far heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the second the Trojans are on the Move quarterback on the keeper not a whole lot of room there three yds maybe second and seven got a little little work done on first down now back to the line the give to the back they'll wrestling down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this on Third and short the power run here and the tackle was made but there has been a flag thrown holding [Applause] we'll repeat the previous down but this time the offense has 10 more yards it has to cover third and long and he'll try to throw for it got his man downfield that'll be enough for the first down as they mark it down at the 31 yd line this defense now is just getting gashed and you're a defensive coordinator you might now want to think about being aggressive changing up your play calls and maybe breaking your own Tendencies because you have got to stop this offense just marching and the Trojans will have it first in [Applause] t they're looking the pass from the Red Zone and the defense makes a play they get the quarterback down at the 26 the defense just simply not fooled by the play action often times an offense you're hoping the Run fake is going to slow down those pass rushers but man oh man they had their ears pinned back this drive was rolling and then it got thrown into reverse here's a second and 18 back to throw it's Moss they're bringing heat and he'll Chuck it into the cheap seats there and save the down nobody getting open there and this offense has gotten off to a good start on third down but this is a different deal on Third and long they're setting up the screen and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one here comes the field goal unit as they'll try to take the three the holder will Kno at the 24 a 34 y coming from the right hatch right down the boulevard it's good and now the lead is even bigger let's go to the studio now and check in with Kevin Connor Kevin what do you got a bit of an under the radar game this week guys but take a look at this Colorado is getting stomped you could bring back any of the greates they've had there Cordell Stewart or ran Salam none of them would make a difference today they're trailing by 20 to Washington we've got our eye on this one and everything else going on throughout the day oh and how about that I know Kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye on it for us off the play fake on first down to throw and he is snowed under sacked at the seven one of the things I love about this defense is they're so versatile in ways they can get after the quarterback in their last game they came away with five sacks came from all over the place they got the win so you know in this one they're going to dial up a lot of different looks it's going to be tough for this offense try to keep their quarterback standing up straight they've got them PN deep in their own end In This Crowd trying to help keep them there leaves it with the back and you want to talk about gang tackling everybody on the defense run with the ball not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long back up inside their 20 fires to the middle it's complete that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first and 10 used the play fake now to throw he's got him in the flat and there were no creases or crevices to run through and they shove him out of bounds and here comes the offense on second down the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment a confident tough efficient run gets it up to the 44 third and short the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here dropping back it's Daniels and they can't make the play on third down the Cardinal will have to boot it away second time today they've been forced to punt bringing it back it's Branch they'll get him down at the 21 yd line the coverage team able to stop him right there this Trojan off defense is ready to go back to work that last Drive was a long one Jesse they'd like this time to pay it off with a touchdown instead of a field goal no doubt ree they had a lot of good stuff going that last drive need to get a tuty up on the board here to extend that lead David and I think you definitely want a touchdown but if you put another long drive together get points multiple possessions in a row start to let those body blows add up and wear this defense out if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum pressure coming and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up the Trojans send out the punt unit getting our first look of the afternoon at the punter this is a spot you see many returners try to take a chance but not this time the fa catch just inside the 40 they'll come out on this drive and let it rip tight and finds a soft spot he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call is hold that penalty moves the ball back 10 yds will replay the down first down here for the offense he'll pull it on the read he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out out quarterback reacting to what the D is showing second down coming up they'll try the running game off the right tackle he locked up and held on to bring him down better find the ear plug here comes the noise backing this defense on third down back to pass it's Daniels got his man quickly just couldn't find any room and he wound up throwing it in reverse they lost yardage Stanford lines up to pun it away three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball he gets a block and the punt team gets down there and gets the Return Man on the ground and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field he'll keep it himself pirouettes away from the defense they finally get him on the ground with a big running play moves to change for the first down man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out it'll be a first down from the 49 yd line looking for a physical attack from the gun he just slips and slides his way down to the 42 as we reach the two-minute warning they'll need to try to get a stop to keep this thing from getting out of hand wants to fight on second down gets it out fast the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's in completion they lost yardage the marker rest at the 39 and that's what they need here on third down and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down and the Trojans decide to plant it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away the punt goes out of bounds and a nice job to get them backed up I think they'll spot it right around the 15 the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field wants to throw on first down going up top it's complete a huge pick up there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer they'll throw it on first down and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball now on second down now looking to pass it's Daniels he's right on target makes the catch and he's brought down they're at their fastest Tempo trying to get off this third down play from the gun wants to pass finds his big tight end he gets it to the 38 yd line and they'll pick up a fresh set of downs [Applause] they want to just keep throwing it makes a connection gets it into the end zone but wait a minute we'll have to check out the laundry on the [Applause] field so not even the pass interference could stop that play they'll decline the penalty and they have the touchdown now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and with the extra point the lead is cut to three it's 10 to7 winding up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 here comes the offense on first down throws to the wide out and they can't make the connection second and 10 after to the previous play he's looking to throw and it'll be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep now facing a third and long from the gun they'll try to impose their running game how about this confidence in the running game and he picks up nine just short of the marker it'll be fourth and one here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way no return coming here fair catch is signal for and made just shy of the 30 on first down here comes this offense he's looking to throw it caught over the middle it's I Manor ripping off a pretty good chunk of yardage they've got it out to the 41 with a first down the offense calls timeout and they won't have any more left this half trying to burn this defensive back and that one's incomplete wor taking a shot there but couldn't hook up and now on second down for this offense wants to throw it's Daniels oh he loves to Fire downfield and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it and he can't escape and down he goes timeout called here by the defense it's the first one they've used this half Stanford lines up to punt it away fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt everybody stays in their Lanes well enough and they stop him at the 31 yd Line running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break dumps it to the back it's caught and they finally get him down but not before he's got him set up for business at the 49 yd line it's a first and 10 looking to move it through the air fires to the wide out how about getting the foot down on that throw for the big completion he's out of bounds after a big pickup but there's a flag on the field and this might be coming back and it's first down but they'll try the field goal in the closing seconds of the first half that is no good guys have missed opportunity there the lead is still three USC 10 Stanford [Applause] that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our halftime update fellas what an environment there today all the animosity and flat out hatred that comes with a good oldfashioned rivalry game on display in that first half each of these two offenses has looked like well oiled machines but it doesn't take a genius to figure out these two passing attacks have run circles around these defenses man or Zone nothing seems to be working and I'm not sure that defensive coordinator is going to be able to figure things out here at halftime that said let's get back to the field and our guys in the booth to see who comes out on top of this rivalry contest and they'll haul down the returner to start us on the next drive this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work and then a lowc scoring game like like this one David every possession is magnified and I think more than anything it just gets frustrating and you got to put that behind you you got to see what this defense has been doing to be so successful Palmer now use it against him yeah David I think for a play caller this is tough right it's like you have to G the perfect play on just to get a first down in these types of games I think you're just trying to get guys out in space see if a dude can break a tackle maybe that generates an explosive play and it breaks this trend and ser es up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chain the Trojans have it with a first and 10 the on the move it's O'Neal they pick up half of it it'll be second and five when with the running game on first down now back at it he'll do it himself really nice stop there from this senior leader third third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here got it looking for the first down they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down and the Trojans are moving quickly down the field the they'll ride the running back and leave it with him and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up halfway there on first down it's second and five dropping back it's Moss he finds a soft spot in the middle and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first [Applause] down out of the shotgun they go to the ground he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go defense it's been said over and over you have to protect players head and neck area this penalty so important at the college level from the gun running back on the Move staying physical in the red zone as he's pulled down after picking up three balls at the 14 from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here he makes a grab can quite lost the frame to get the six but they'll have the first down the offense is threatening poose to the end zone now with a new set of downs and he fights his way forward gets away from one but not much doing on that one they'll give it another shot on second and goal from the four the give to the back he pushes it forward all the way to the 2yd line and they've inched closer and closer and still two yards to go for the touchdown here on third down power ahead and he takes it in for the score touchdown trojes and I love the physicality of this offense it's third and goal it's money time I've got to be more physical than you and that's exactly what this offense just did put the ball on the ground and put it in the inside P unit on the field and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor's in the studio all right guys want to update you on a game that went final moments ago Utah was like a 65 man mute button they went on the road and silenced one of the most vocal crowds in football and it's clear this Hut's team has adopted the Mantra let your play do the talking he makes a catch a lot to go through in the film session this week for both teams but boy it sure is going to be easier for the side that came away with the win Kevin thanks for that one sounds as if they had a good one he's going to let one fly down the middle and it's knocked away downfield the DB getting a hand in there the incompletion brings up a second down to the air it's Daniels fires to the big fella gets away from one find some space they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs they'll give it to the back no what a move defense needs to regroup as he gets it down to the 26 the analytics nerds say the goal was at least four yds on First and 10 he's going to pass good route on the comeback and he makes the catch and he'll run across the sidelines after the good game on second down wants to throw it unleashes one deep and that one is picked off in the end zone defensive backs have tough jobs I mean you think about whether you play nier whether you play dime whatever it is you put more DBS on the field it's more speed it's more guys that can cover but they also got to cover that ground but to cover the ground and make the Pick A lot of times you don't see that superb effort by that guy [Music] and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one dve we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same you keep the pace keep it going quarterback on the keeper we'll give him a a couple on that one second and eight coming up kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line up on second down just keeps firing he just missed the Target on that one got to put it on his body let's see what they find in the playbook for third and long from the 43 scanning the field it's Moss can't make the play on the interception and man they were looking for their first pick of the game instead be fourth down was looking for more Running Room but found nothing but more tacklers he's down at the 24 time for one more snap before the end of the quarter coming out on first down with the play fake got him downfield they make the stop but barely and they might need to regroup as we have come to the end of the third quarter as we head to the quarter break it is USC holding the lead they're sitting in a strong position here with the lead let's take a look at our game summary when you're dealing with a deficit like this it's all about somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter leaves it with the running back that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there didn't get much on first down it's second and nine got rid of it in a hurry but he couldn't find his man it's incomplete these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down grabbed in the middle it's I Manor they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about defense just an ill advised play by the defender to make contact with the quarterback after the throw and it cost his team going up top on first down got his man in the middle really nice job by the quarterback understanding I needed to throw this ball hard like I got to fit it in there tight and a nice job by the wide receiver wearing it cuz he really didn't have a choice cuz he was going to wear that one regardless get it out on the screen that completion takes him down to theeven Y Line and they are ready to strike this Stanford offense is coming set up with another first down they'll try to get it in with the Run Relentless tough running gets it down to the four now the offense tries to punch it in on second and goal looking to throw it's Daniels snags it goes out of bounds just short of the goal line and they'll be set up in in great position here and you want to know what impact HomeField Advantage can have there it is the offense will walk it back so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty you can't hear yourself think on Third and goal makes a catch and he's forced out of bounds just short of the goal line they'll stop him at the one so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in and it's no good he missed it guys that field goal could Loom large missing an opportunity to get within a touchdown we're still sitting on a 10-point game this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work looking for a productive play on first down he'll pull it on the read he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage didn't get anything on that last run now second and 10 from their own 20 gives it to the back on the draw he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 from the gun wants to pass trying to get behind the defense he's got it downfield for for a huge game he just keeps piling up numbers with completion after completion in this standout performance I think some people might say late in the game you got the win everything's in hand be a little bit conservative or you just say I'm just going to keep doing me and what I do with this offense is throw the football all of the yard and I'm going to try to win me a big trophy at the end of the year and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup the Trojans will line it up on first and 10 from the gun the ground game he's brought down but there's a flag on the play let's see if it stands personal foul face defense well that was an easy one for the officials you can't grab a face mask like that and it cost the defense a first down on the run it's O'Neal he's knocked down in are threatening they pushed it ahead to the four they'll try to cash in on second and [Applause] goal and to the end zone he goes touchdown USC they extend this lead and it looks as if they are going to make it two wins in a row now they've got a little breathing room they are in firm control with this game guys but you never want to let up in a rivalry game because it only takes one play we know how much of a factor momentum can be in these types of rivalry games David So this game still far from over and this is where my leadership and my experience comes into play we got guys that have been through these fires been through R game you know the swings happen quick now you got to swing it back your way about to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown what kind of field position can he help them with on the return and the returner goes down Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field they're going to open this drive with a pass grabbed over the middle it's iio Manor he'll get it out to the 25 not bothered at all being backed up and they've got a first [Applause] down he wants to throw fired that thing out in a heartbeat but it's incomplete they'll line up for a second down play looking for a man it's Daniels using the quick game pick up of five it'll be third down and five Stanford wants to push the pace they're going to throw it again grab near the sticks it's mm works his way to the 41 and that is plenty to give him a first down this Stanford offense moving quickly down the field he might have expected to see this DB up in his receivers kitchen instead nice little Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good reys at seeing the holes in the zone knowing you're in zone knowing where to sit down how to make it an easy pitch and catch for the quarterback and that's what it was on Third and short I'll tell you this quarterback has just been in a great Rhythm all game long with that last completion he's now over 300 yd passing they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down on second down they'll take to the air gets it out quickly good job running that route to to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the [Applause] catch comes out throwing on first down quick strike complete really nice job there by both guys to throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first [Applause] down here's the snap looking to throw it's complete and he was straining for the goal line but the defense stopped him short two minutes now left in this one and time is running short if they want to find a way to pull this one out he wants it all Can't Hang On In The End Zone and that one is going to drive him crazy when he watches it it'll be third down looking downfield it's Daniels and it's caught touchdown Stanford nice job by the offense going down the field putting points on the board but you're still down a couple possessions still need some good things to happen you need your kicker to go over there and get warmed up we need an onside we need to score some points we need a lot of things to go right to win this football game on to attempt the try [Applause] for and the Pat will draw them one point closer we check in with Kevin Connors what's going on on Kevin a pair of top 15 teams throwing Haymakers today let's show you the very latest Alabama is putting on an offensive Clinic the likes of which we've seldom seen and this program has had some legendary players they're up 14 Over Georgia we'll Circle back if anything big they'll try to move the chains on the ground quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense and the Trojans will will snap it on First and 10 quarterback's just going to take a knee there is nothing greater than a rivalry game unless you lose it and in that case there is nothing more miserable I agree Reese and that's why rivalry games are so great because you take the stats and you take the rankings and you take the records and you throw it all out the window there's always tremendous effort and passion when we see these rival games we certainly saw it today and David for this losing team this one's going to sting for a while it does but it's so strange because I I always feel the same way I'm like there's no chance that they have a chance to upset them but then you go it's a rivalry game the the the the victory all the hate it's already there and so it means so much in sports who's motivated for these games so you do get up it does become a good game even when it's not a good game on paper
