Cleveland Browns' Deshaun Watson Receives Brutal Ranking From PFF

some people feel like it's all about the wins and losses and we know it's all about the wins and losses but do style points count and for some reason with DeShaun Watson it seems to these style points be counting Earl um and before we get into your thoughts um let's go ahead and I'm G to throw out a little something right here to kind of show exactly why when people talk about it that some people say that the style points do count this is an article um this is from PFF and it talks about uh the tears uh of quarterbacks as they have the rankings we're talking about the offensive side of the football and this is tier five can sing Hanley win or lose you games now to put it in perspective they have a rookie Kaleb Williams who is 18th they have him 18th on this list uh and they have Baker Mayfield at 20 right they have Derek Carr at 21 and they have Russell Wilson at 22 you say G Bush why you why you show me the stats because you got to go all the way down to 23 to find DeShaun Watson at Cleveland Browns and said Watson has been a disappointment since joining the Browns uh he has played in uh just six games in each of the past uh two seasons due to suspension and uh and and with injury he is coming off offseason season and the injury uh to his throwing shoulder his numbers reflect all of that Watson's 58.7 cumul to PFF score uh pass passing grade over the last two seasons ranks third or excuse me ranks 53rd amongst qualifying passers still his dominant days in in the Texas uniform aren't not not a figment of your imagination perhaps this is the year we see it uh again through uh though he is uh running out of time to prove it now Earl with that backdrop is is where we go to your argument right it's the great argument and we we got a a a clip right here uh that of gives you the microcosm of where we stand in Cleveland with with deshun Watson just because deshun Watson put up big numbers and his team didn't perform well did not mean that desan wat that you either have a bunch of uh stats and your team sucks no well that means if his stats are great you go back and look at what the other pieces and parts were doing did your offensive line work did you have a running game what was your defense like you can't put it all on DeShawn Watson and say he threw for 4,800 yard back stat it's a team stat but just like everybody saying that he has to have the stats those same people because the stats are going to translate to wins but it doesn't always happen that way team would Earl he didn't have a good team there of course it doesn't more often than not good stats lead to wins more than bad stats is that fair yeah of course so what are you talking about but I'm not but you're saying that he has to have top five quarterback numbers and I'm I didn't necessarily say top five when say yes he does well he's got to be top 10 I don't doesn't necess be five it could be six don't don't turn the football over and come through in the clutch I'm not saying desan Watson could be a bottom 10 quarterback and the Browns have success what I'm saying this he don't have to be a top five quarterback and a Browns can still have ah Earl the Pearl go ahead take the floor and and I thought you did a great job of of speaking to the thought process that you said you was consistent I always been about wins yeah I mean that's been my that's how I view this entire situation from the beginning first first of all man shout out to you shout out to Bull I thought it was a very very spirited conversation I got a couple text messages after the show I don't really read the comments for whatever personal reasons I have but um you know a lot of people thought it was some tension and beef there G you can speak to this like this game like we're entertainers right you know what I'm saying and people should appreciate two people being passionate uh about their point or whatever they trying to you know bring to the table especially if you got some like something to really back up what you trying to say what you don't know is man as soon as uh that segment was over me and boy looked at each other and start laughing we was laughing get ready like getting ready for the next segment we don't we don't even we don't even think about that and that's the great part of the energy level on Ultimate Cleveland sports show because we we really go at it but yet and still we got respect for each other as men and as co-working as brothers that we can talk to each other and have content like that yeah now now with all that being said man listen I only been doing this three going to four years and so before I was ever you know on this side of this side of the coin I was a fan first and I've always been about the wins right yeah do I like individual players that come play for the Cleveland Browns absolutely I'm a sports fan I love college football I love football I watch football when the Browns are not on so whenever is a player Allah desan Watson get the opportunity to play for my team I'm overly excited but at the end of the day G I am all about the Cleveland Browns winning games and that's like while Des Deshawn Watson is on this team that was before deshan Watson was ever a part of this team and I'm G have the same energy long after he's gone I don't really get caught up in the minutia of stats I have been privileged to have close friends that has played this game at the highest level and so when you exercise the tool of active listening and you listen to these guys that's actually put on a pass and the helmet and went out there on that grd iron and play you understand the magnitude of how hard it is to win in the NFL and for the dudes that go out there and play this sport at the highest level all of them and tyus our homie tyus power he'll tell you this it's a hard game to win every Sunday it's hard as hell to come out on the other side of that thing Victorious and so if you're able to do that at the end of the day they don't give a damn how it looked how pretty it was how ugly it was did you get the job done and if you start getting the job done more often than not then get guess what those wins add up and you build more mum you find different ways to win there's G to always be more than diff uh more than one way to skin a cat and I think that sometimes people get too bogged down on desan Watson has to put up these crazy ass numbers for the Browns to have success but the truth in the matter is the fans that feel that way they want to feel some type of return on an investment because of the contract that Shawn Watson signed at said time so for those people they feel like because you signed for so much money and at said time it was the most and and giving out to a quarterback whatever the case may be that the only way to justify that type of contract for Deshaun Watson is that he turned around and had the stats Bo me and buy went at it all day bu said that he has to be a top five top 10 quarterback G if this man go out here and throw for 4,500 yards like you want like bu wants and we're in the AFC Championship game and Deshawn Watson throws a crucial interception with the game on the line guess what all those stats that he put up until that point it don't mean a damn thing because when it came down to it and we needed him to make a clutch play he did not at the end of the day the ratio to you know touchdowns turnovers whatever all I know is when you don't turn a football over and when you are actually executing the the drive and and whatever the play cuse is I said time and you leading your team downfield the touchdown drives as long as you doing that and and you're finishing each game with no turnovers and your team is Victorious then that's what matters to me it ain't about all that other stuff that people care about I'm I'm G throw a little a different wrinkle at it because I I think there we we've talked about the two different different factions and I believe there's a faction out there um that believes believe this uh as well a lot of times when I say 4500 some of it is for me I don't believe DeShaun Watson has had an ample opportunity with 11 starts to show what his game is or to prove his game or to or to show the level of skill set so to me when I go back and look and say you know Baker Mayfield with 50 some odd games almost 60 plus games and you he's play you know deshun Watson has played less than Brandon Weeden he's played less games than Co McCoy so for me half of the reason we say 4500 not because we value the stats over the WIS we want that too a the reason is we want to shut people up we want to be like hey look you wanted stats there they go shut up can we all get together now and move forward and not though it it part of it is like the same energy we wanted that we had at the end of the year with flacko that was special energy everybody can feel that right and my thing is it's almost like the thing is like I I if you can if we can deliver the numbers maybe we can get the 25% of the fan base that seem to just not be in on the whole part of the Cleveland Browns instead of just taking you know I don't deal with deshun Watson but I watch the Browns part of it is like if we show you the numbers maybe those 25% and maybe we get people to shut up I'mma disagree with that man I'mma keep it 100 with you I can understand logic behind that statement but in my opinion man the detractors of deshun Watson are detractors of deshun Watson for more reasons outside of football and those type of people who have made up their mind that they don't like DeShawn Watson they don't give a damn about what the stats look like no matter if that's what they might say if desan Watson goes out here he throws for 4,500 yards he throw for 30 touchdowns seven interceptions and he runs for another four touchdowns right and the Browns wi 11 games and they win a division then we get to the playoffs and we loseing the first round or or or the second round I'm sorry or the third round whatever the case may be and desha Watson that's the week that he has a God awful performance guess what they're gonna talk about the fact that Desa Watson had a god aul performance when it mattered most the trade is a disaster and this dude can't get it done so to me even if you get the stats the people who have made up their mind about the Shawn Watson is still gonna stay on stay on the same trajectory that they've been on for the last two seasons that's just how I see it and so at the end of the day that's why I put so much emphasis on the wins because if the Browns win a Super Bowl I'm telling you g they not gonna care about what his numbers look like they gonna care about the fact that you know what after everything that we'd have been through with DeShawn Watson in the Browns uniform this dude led us to a Super Bowl and you know what I'll go back go back and watch the episode that we did with me and quiny Cary we talk about the same topic we're much more in depth with it but you played a clip in that episode where he said you know it's hard to replace you if you winning hey when you hold that Trophy up can't nobody really say nothing about the trophy we all agree with this the end all Beall is the Lombardy and if you got that thing you got the hearts of the people and you got that job solded up so uh that's
