welcome in to the warchant rap this is Irish Shel Cory Clark out outside of day three of Florida State football practice first day in shs well shells pads first day full contact uh it started we were inside I was listening to John puchas defensive ends coach talking to the defensive lineman and basically said listen we've got pads on now you're not going to hurt them use heavy hands use violent hands I think we saw some of that today yeah man that's what yeah represent right uh yeah I mean you saw that physicality I mean that's what night Mike norell practiced though right like they want physic it they want uh urgency um it just felt like a normal Florida State practice I mean you know what I mean like it felt just like nothing left off from the spr but what's notable about that is there are a lot of different guys you know it hits you you know three days into practice now that you don't have Jared verse out there anymore you don't have Bren Fisk you don't have some of the guys on on defense or offense that were Stars last year draft picks but it feels very much like things have carried on which is a good sign it is and man you you talk about guys that that the first two days it's hard hard to really gauge the offensive and defensive lines and it's hard to be disruptive well the defensive line was disruptive on on Friday Josh farmer uh anytime he was in the in the on the field in a team situation he was disrupting things I thought KJ Samson was really disruptive too and Daryl Jackson is just a mountain of a human being that's hard to move the defensive line those starters yeah man they're as as good as advertised I think I know it's day one but we know they're going to be good but Josh farmer again norell has talked about this twice now like like yeah he was pretty good last year he was all ACC is but people are allowed to get better from their third year to their fourth year in fact it's it's advised it's wanted and he's even better than he was last year which could make him a monster completely like I you you know like last year again when you have Jared verse and Braden Fisk and some of the guys they had in that defensive line Josh farmer sometimes could be a a little bit of an afterthought you know almost like oh yeah and they've got Josh farmer but dude he looks like a I mean he looks like a first- round pick I mean he looks dominant out there practice is uh and again he's got to sustain it and keep getting better but they could not have talked we talked to Mike norval and Odell heggins afterwards and Odell said the great thing he loves is he's teaching the younger guys and like you mentioned KJ Samson's just a redur freshman but he's going to play yeah he had some flashes today two or three like in the back field yeah yeah uh offensively man there were a lot of highlights though I thought DJ we angay looked I thought he looked excellent I didn't see some of the one-on-one stuff but all the 7 on S 1111 stuff I thought he was on the money yeah he was really good I thought um and Brock Glen made some nice throws too but I think consistently over the course of the day DJ was uh I mean he's the starter for a reason I mean he was the better quarterback and he looked he looked the part he made some really good throws and 11 on 11 it's hard to gauge because again we're not allowed to talk about depth charts but you can imagine the type of Defenders that DJ's spacing that maybe Brock Glenn and Luke croman Hawk aren't so it's a little harder to gauge because there's not as much time to throw let's say but yeah on the one-on ones in the seven on sevens I thought he uh he looked excellent and again I want to shout out this kid cuz he's making great catches every day as Morlock I think there's a really a connection developing between DJ and Morlock that's a kind of a go-to guy it seems and he made a couple of he made a really nice catch over uh the kid from Alabama Shawn Murphy is that his name with good coverage by the way it was a really good coverage by Murphy just a great catch by morock man and he's made a few of those but yeah I thought DJ was the sharpest of today hakee made a couple of nice catches uh maybe celebrated a little too much for norvell's liking on one of them but yeah he made some really nice catches and and and kind of was making um it was good to see I it was a good bounceback day for him because you're going to need I think we I think as we keep going in these practices and stacking him on Malik is going to be a guy he's a starter who's going to be the other two guys portier had a really nice day and hem made a couple big plays yeah KRON portier had maybe the play of the day uh I think it was from DJ where KRON got behind I mean he's going up against the best of the best he got behind AZ and shahim Browns coming over the top and I mean he put it in perfectly K makes a play but K had to get great throw too yeah was a a great throw I mean everything about it was great the coverage wasn't bad but it was a beautiful throw and and catch and the catch right on the sideline yeah for like 40 yard that's a really nice play man it was good I mean huge and it's got to be a confidence Builder because again you're doing it against two maybe two of the best corners or one of the best corners and one of the best safeties that you're going to see all season and overall I just think again when you look at what this team is going to be it's the first day in pad so we can start judging the line of scrimmage a little bit they're going to be a good running team I think oh yeah no mean well that's your point they pop some big runs and and that's a good defensive line they're going up against a bunch of good runs I mean that was it was almost feast or famine like either def complely blew it up or you all of a sudden you'd see jayen Lucas or Sam Singleton or Lawrence Toof Lawrence tofil had a really nice run it looked like Darius Washington a couple other guys kind of BR broke it open but tofil made a beautiful run and me when he hits that gear so the running game you know it's hard to tell a little bit because we're not in full pads and and you know you're going up against your own defense but yeah definitely there were definitely good signs and you mentioned them but we we just don't talk enough about TOA like I understand why they throw it to him so much and give him the ball so much he is just Nails he is a he is a really good veteran football player he made a couple of really good catches again today it's just what he does man and he hit a big run too uh he's not a wide receiver but he's he's utilized in the passing game and he's really good and then there were other times where it's like the defense obviously it sounds like the offense dominated it did not the defense was very good especially in 11 on 11 but in seven on seven and some 11 on 11s there were some open plays that maybe somebody dropped a pass that shouldn't um read the read the observations to see who I might be talking about but again you look at uh we're going to talk about him probably every day that he's here but jayen Lucas again he is actually one of those guys that that bobbled the ball that he should have caught but man is he open in the middle of the field and man what's he going to do after he catches it that's the exciting part with with some of these skill position guys as it comes more into focus on who they're actually going to have on the field yeah I also like some of the competitiveness in terms of uh just guys not not over the top in terms of emotions but like Charles Lester kind of got into it a little bit with a couple guys they looked good by the way Lester charer and Ricky Knight Ricky Knight I know him yesterday and he had another nice a couple nice plays today they they the young DBS look really good right but that what was cool about that play with chester or Charles Lester Chester better more efficent is he gets into it with a couple offensive players uh including one who wasn't even in the play but just came over to John a little bit and then royell uh F royell Williams there go the Alabama transfer who's only been on campus now for six seven months but they talked about him when he came in is what what a good leader he was and sure enough man he he comes over has nothing to do with the play but he comes over and puts his arm around Charles Lester and jogs with him to the other side of the field where the defense is to just kind of like talk the Freshman through that moment it's just cool man again as we talked about earlier the the faces and the names change on this team but it looks a lot like the Florida state teams we've seen the last couple years and I'll tell you a guy that we haven't mentioned uh as much as we should because he's a he's a veteran he's a starter he's been here for a while Shaheen Brown is a guy that I just think he upticks the competition in practice he just he's fun to watch cuz he cares when there's a you know there was a play really late where uh Jaylen Brown wasn't sure if he it seemed like he wasn't sure if he was supposed to be on the field or not on the field he was going back and forth and doing motion three or four times and Shaheen Brown runs out and starts calling delay a game like he wasn't even in the play he was on the sideline calling delay a game when they had a false start he took the ball and started walking it back five yards like he's a guy that I think when you when you don't have somebody like Jared verse obviously you miss Jared verse' Talent but you also Miss what he does for practice shahim Brown is that guy that can still ramp up and rile up other guys on the other side and I think that's what you need you need not that competition's ever going to be light at a Mike norbel practice but that kind of spirit I think drives it even more he treats every every practice play like it's a game situation mad or happy no really mad or really happy the other guy I want to mention just a little bit linebackers there's a couple of notes from the linebackers one was like you see some of the youth and talent of a guy like Blake Nicholson One play he does a great job of snuffing out a play in the back field just really read it perfectly triggered got downhill made the tackle for loss and then the next play they break a long run and it looked like he got blocked pretty well like he kind of hit the wrong spot and got blocked so you you see some of that you see the like a really nice play but then a learning opportun the learning curve and again we we always want to stress that all these guys are learning as they go a guy like Blake Nicholson we think theoretically and and a certainly will be he'll be better in Ireland than he is right now because you're growing and you're getting better but we get to watch practice so we get to see The Growing Pains that some of these guys go through and you see it with all the receivers too like I talked about hem I didn't think had a good day at all yesterday he came back and had a better day today Jaylen Brown I didn't think was very good yesterday he had a better day today there but they're young they're seconde guys they're supposed to they're supposed to be up and down and in in learning and growing and so that's really good to see that they do take those steps and there's going to be some e and flow but overall you like the talent when it's flowing right or ebbing uh flowing flowing is the good part of that yeah so when it's flowing that you like to to see that Talent well we're going to e right out of here and it's a little warm out here guys uh thanks for Tazon for helping us out and uh plenty of coverage coming on the site Cory's observations we'll
